With a busy busy boating schedule this morning I simply did not have time ’til now to blog the YoD.

I was too busy enjoying the delights of Sydney Harbour, choking on a rich blend of diesel and  prawn juice which I managed to spatter all over myself.

All in all I still managed to look real pretty and playful as today’s denim pic displays…

I have to say, when I first listened to Cheryl’s debut solo album, I wasn’t keen, I really wasn’t. I’ve listened to it all week now and LOVE IT. It’s definitely a grower. Just give it a chance if you felt the same. I mean, I’m a massive Girls Aloud fan so there was always going to be the painful comparison of Cheryl on her own without the girls…. it wasn’t ever going to be the same. But hell, it’s not half bad, not half bad at all! Alas, I degress, 3 Words is one of the songs I was finding myself humming and singing, badly. So it’s quite nice that this is Cheryl’s follow up single to Fight For This Love.

In the 3 Words video, Cheryl takes on three ‘personas’: her usual Hollywood glamour look with big big hair, a blunt brunette bob and unusually her final look is a gaga inspired platinum blonde style. It’s definitely fair to say Cheryl looks best with her brunette locks!

Wow. It’s warming up and I have discovered a pair of shorts I have yet to wear. Like many other items of clothing I own they are just a little too snug round the waist.

(Sighing wistfully) If I only had a waist.

Another exciting thing is that today’s photo is one of my favourites so far.

Not only does it prove for once and all that I have absolutely no arse, the picture also suggests I may be an amputee.

Victoria is giving her almost vanished denim label a rebirth. Formerly knwown as dVb, it will now simly be called Victoria Beckham Denim.

The jeans were given a high-end makeover, and are sharper and sleeker than the original dVb’s. Not to forget the super slouchy boyfriend jeans, that probably gave her back the ‘denim-credibility’. In the range there are also sixties sweet pastel cigarette pants with contrasting inserts. She even goes beyond jeans with a range of leggings in bright colours.

If one would ask Victoria how to wear the jeans from her refreshed label, she’ll probably answer you this: ‘With towering heels ofcourse!’

So its been a little while since I’ve posted and theres a few things that have caught my eye that I NEED to share with you all (7 people who read this blog haha).

80s sunnies – as you may have noticed theres been a massive surge in 80s inspired fashion and it’s no less apparent in the sunnies department. Several years ago it was aviators that were the thing and now you’ve probably noticed Ray Bans are THE hot ticket look at the moment but that is set to change (although there’ll always be some losers who cling to them). No, no longer will raybans (which i noticed peaked in popularity when the “actors” in Twilight sported them) be the dominant sunglasses look, instead watch out for a style more like this:

Oliver People frames

The style of frame is called Oliver People’s, and they will become quite big this summer, so watch out for them. If you like to stay ahead of trends I’d suggest picking up a pair, one place to go would be Incu men’s on Flinder’s Lane in the city.

So I work at G Star and the new drop crotch Scuba Elwoods have come in, and I tried them on. They’re not being put out on the floor yet so this is like a sneak peak at this very different (and cool) look that is becoming available. I doubt they’ll ever really catch on on in a huge way because they’re too different but no doubt you’ll see them around, worn by people who like to be different for the sake of it (people who think they are “avant garde”). Anyway they’re a sexy pair of jeans whether your wear them or not and I love G Star for making them.

So thats my summary of some thoughts I’ve had about various fashion topics recently, I’ve got a few more blog posts planned (about other stuff like eating for free on a Saturday morning) so keep your peepers peeled!

Rien n’est le même chose  Regardant la semaine de mode à Paris, c’était évident que tout les gens sont beaucoup libres dans leur avis sur la mode, alors Ungarro nous ont présenté les nouvelles styles.

For S/S 10, London based Superfine channels the elegant decay of old rock legends and mixes it with luxe fabrics and new treatments to ramp up strong silhouettes where details are key. The starting point of the collection is inspired by brit rebel Keith Richards; the union jack is ripped down and reinvented as washed silk garments and graphic detailing. Edges are left raw, reminiscent of an old ruined flag.

Ever the rocker, boys are sly in sweat fabric and jersey that have been washed to a wasted soft leather feel. Slashes of silk mix with denim, where petrol is the color driving the collection. Lighter denims, including a new pale grey tie-dye and a treated waxed mid-grey keep it fresh. Providing bass is ‘Blackboard’, a classic rock wash.

I’ve always wanted to do this but somehow never got down to it. Every time I mustered the time/energy to document my breaking-in process, my denims were well broken in already.

Well not today.

Today is Day Zero of my APC NS – fresh from APC Underground. Hard as cardboard and ready for some stacking/honeycombing/whiskering/fading action. It’s interesting how most of the online sizing advice that I got pointed me towards a size 29 but when I tried it on myself, it was a size 30 that fit. Seriously guys, some of us actually want to have kids some day.

The relaxed and casual feel in Citizens of humanity’s lookbook sets the perfect grounds for the presentation of their S/S 10 collection featuring basics with touches of refined punk and vintage americana. I admit – this is not the most innovative or exciting of collections – but that said, it is still a nice offering for those of us who opt for a more informal, uncomplicated look.

Question to you ladies out there, do you sometimes feel less of a woman if you dress in a male type of clothing? Obviously in SL you can get away with wearing almost anything and not be “judged” and that is why I love it so much, but in my RL I do unfortunately feel less attractive and almost “looked down upon” as I trundle the streets with my hooded top, jeans and trainers on lol. Maybe this is indicative about me and my mental state of mind .. lol…. rather than society as whole; but either way I have decided to take a stand – and make myself feel better in the process :b – by going all “manly” in todays blog.

“Plaid is Back” and “Trepid” by MYTH

MYTH has been around in SL for approximately a year and has become known amongst some circles as the place to go for high quality, reasonably priced casual clothing with a kind of 50’s-esque feel about them. Of course I have been a fan since day one as you all know I have a penchant for watching designers grow and develop throughout their time in SL (no… I am not a stalker btw :b). Actually, it is a little ironic as I have just remembered that one of my very first pieces purchased from Ms Pinazzo was a male shirt and waistcoat combo lol – lawd things have not changed as much as I thought.

Anyway, what you see me wearing above (whilst doing hard manual farm work :b) is the “PLAID IS BACK” shirt in pink. Available in male and female versions, and I have it on good authority that the only difference is the size of the prim cuffs and collar, this shirt is is a lovely mix of  traditional autumn/winter work wear with a huge blast of color. It is ideal for cheering yourself up on cold winter days, but team it up with the TREPID jeans (again, available in male and female version) and you have on your hands a little winner. I am all for bargain shopping but this entire outfit costs only L$300 and will see you through till next summer as the jeans are that perfect colour which can be worn in any season. This coupled with the fact that the detailing is simple and sufficient means that there should be no avatar out there complaining they have no clothes to chill out and relax in over the coming months.

While I am on the subject of denim bags, I haven’t bought a new denim bag in months. Surely I cannot already own every type of denim bag?

I know this cannot be true because of a discussion I had with a Vietnamese check-out chick.

She was admiring the denim bag I was sporting and she told me in Vietnam denim bags made out of an old pair of jeans are very popular right now.

This is an item I need. I might even have to make it myself.

I’m actually glad the denim bubble burst. Seriously.

I’m a denimhead and even I found myself raising an eyebrow at the increasingly inflated prices over the past few years. It’s reasonable to pay a little more for better fabric, better workmanship, and better fit… but to price woven cotton packaged with five pockets and a couple of rivets at numbers way over five hundred dollars to the four figure range… I mean… really?

Hopefully prices will continue to cool off… but I doubt the numbers will go too low because the jeans companies would still want to keep their ‘premium’ label on the denim. Designers and manufacturers really need to up their game to justify their premium price tags now more than ever. A pair of made-in-Japan Kicking Mule Workshop jeans cost about the same as a made-in-Italy pair of Diesel jeans, yet I find the Kicking Mule Workshop pair to be better made and of nicer fabric. Both are branded as ‘premium’ denims but the disparity in quality is quite noticeable. And for what it’s worth, my selvedge Uniqlo denims that cost below a hundred are pretty damn decent.

Maybe the recession was a good thing. The veil has been lifted and consumers/manufacturers have to now rethink what quality is. For faithful denim aficionados, I don’t know if this bubble burst will make much of a difference… I mean, the bubble may have affected the mainstream, but denim addicts will still hunt their Momotaros, Sugarcanes and heavy Ironhearts down.

It’s getting towards that time of year when the tuneless unlistenable sentimental charity singles that you aren’t allowed to criticise start to mass-singalonging their way out of the woodwork, so what better time to celebrate the most tuneless, unlistenable, sentimental and not-allowed-to-criticise-tastic (seriously – a previous long-forgotten blog post on this very subject drew some extremely stern rejoinders) of them all… Chicken Shed Theatre’s I Am In Love With The World.

Cast your mind back, if you will, to 1997, a year that brought us Blue Jam, Supergrass’ best album by far, and Phil Cool celebrating the eleventh anniversary of drinking some Citrus Spring. This was also the year, of course, of Princess Diana’s fateful flight from the paparazzi, yet weirdly, despite the unwelcome repercussions of the ridiculous outpourings of grief still being felt to this day, the effect of this defining historical moment on popular music was negligible to say the least. The weeks that immediately followed saw The Verve being stopped from being famous, Denim’s offensively upbeat Summer Smash being given a release date of ‘never’, Radio 1 briefly turning into wall-to-wall ’meaningful’ Oasis album tracks, and Elton John releasing poignant tribute Croco-Di Rock, though even that only topped the chart for about three minutes and then… what else?

Well, the answer would be ‘nothing’, if it wasn’t for a certain charitable organisation. Founded in the seventies, Chicken Shed Theatre is a long-running project with the laudable ambition of giving ‘mixed ability’ youngsters the opportunity to participate in the creative arts. This is all truly wonderful stuff, but even that cannot really excuse the woefulness of I Am In Love With The World, issued as a single in tribute to their former patron. This woefulness has nothing to do with the performance; oh no, you can only admire the gutsiness of the contributing youngsters, particularly that lead-singing girl who despite an endearing lack of technical ability has the guts to roar like an eighties ‘rawk’ power-balladeer without the slightest shred of self-awareness. It’s just the song itself, an utterly empty anthem-by-numbers with ridiculous phatic cliched lyrics. Worse still, or worse still for anyone who wasn’t particularly fond of hearing it, it was promoted as ‘Diana’s favourite song’ on account of the fact that she had heard it once, which in all fairness means that Georgie Fame could have re-released Wake Up Morph under a similar pretence. Still, as a cultural snapshot of that curious weekend in that curious late August, it’s right up there with the blase Fred Harris-remembering launch of TV Cream, and that local radio DJ who accidentally played Fall On Me by REM instead of Everybody Hurts when he was trying to be ‘reverential’. Though anyway, the version by The Curious Orange on This Morning With Richard Not Judy was better.

So, there, I’ve said it. Go on, kick off in the comments box. It’ll make a change from all the people shouting about Stewart Lee or Russell T Davies betraying the glorious legacy of Mission To Duh. And if you’d rather sing along at home, here’s those lyrics in full:

Prps probably needs no introducing. Since a certain Brit star footballer made their jeans his second skin the road to fame and fortune was short for the 2003 established denim brand. Kings of authentic ‘aged and distressed’, Prps was among the first American brands to employ Japanese denim artisans in manufacturing their denim, with every nick, prick and stain made by hand. The wealth of detail is overwhelming when it comes to a pair of Prps, and usually comes from the worlds of military uniform and vintage workwear. Here’s a look at their spring/summer 2010 lookbook.

Depuis de nombreuses années, je préfère Noël que Halloween parce que  je peux recevoir beacoup de cadeaux. En ce moment, parce que je suis plus vieux, j’aime Halloween, car  monde tout entier est content. Il n y a rien pour faire sauf trouver la panoplie. Pour Noël, je dois acheter des cadeaux pour mon fils. Lui, il aime tous les vêtements denim, surtout les skinny jeans authentiques.  Donc, j’achète quelques pantalons et je retiens la facture!

Postweiler Hauber’s S/S 10 collection is taking ‘jeans and t-shirt’ quite literally. Besides offering actual jeans and t-shirts the garments are also over-all printed with piles of jeans and wood images. The ironic collection is entitled ‘too much quatch’ – German for too much rubbish or stuff, confirming the German label’s critical look at modern life, fashion and the vintage trend.
