Where are DiMarzio® pickups made?
All DiMarzio ® pickups are made in our New York City factory.
Larry Dimarzio makes the best pickups on this planet!

What’s the difference between a Super Distortion® and a Dual Sound
In our current production, there is no difference whatsoever, but we include a 500K push-pull pot with the Dual Sound. Our original Super Distortion® had 1 conductor plus shield. We introduced the Dual Sound with three conductors plus shield to allow more wiring options. As guitar manufacturers and players became more sophisticated, the market demanded four conductors plus shield on all humbuckers, so both models now have four conductors, as do all of our full-size humbuckers.

What are DiMarzio black back pickups
Although “black back” is not a nickname that we have ever used, it commonly refers to the fact that some of our humbuckers have black base plates rather than brass or nickel silver. This is simply a cosmetic choice which does not affect performance, and it doesn’t actually refer to specific models. However the Breed and Evolution models are built with black base plates as a standard feature.

BlackStar HT 5
The HT-5 is the ultimate studio and practice amp, packing all the great tone and innovative features of the award-winning HT valve pedals into a two channel, footswitchable valve combo. The patent-applied-for ISF (Infinite Shape Feature) circuit gives you infinite adjustment over the characteristics of the tone control network and takes you from the USA to the UK and any where in between. So now you can effectively design your own tone and finally find the sound in your head

Black Star Series One 100
Built on the rock-solid foundation of the classic 100W EL34 power stage, this amplifier sets new standards for clean and crunch tones. Two channels and four footswitchable modes, complete with ISF, include the amazing Super Crunch for the biggest, crunchiest tones yet heard. The DPR control allows power to be reduced to 10W for studio and small venue work, while a series effects loop and MIDI switching further expand the flexibility of this professionally specified amplifier.

Stop signs are often used in North America including Mexico, where they read alto
The United States Of America stop signs are commonly used as a safety measure in residential areas and near places where children play or walk (such as schoolyards), or which experience frequent automobile accidents, making extra precautions necessary.
(1995) Van Halen III
(1998) The Best of Both Worlds
(2004)
Van Halen III is the eleventh studio album by American hard rock band Van Halen, released in 1998. It is the only Van Halen album to feature Gary Cherone on lead vocals. The album’s title was a pun on the fact that this was Van Halen’s third recorded line-up, and the band’s first two albums having been titled Van Halen and Van Halen II. No songs from it are featured on The Best of Both Worlds, the band’s 2004 greatest hits compilation, and the album itself is not even listed on the band’s discography.
The album’s only significant radio hit was “Without You”, which reached #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart on the March 7, 1998 issue of Billboard, and remained at #1 for six weeks. Other songs receiving airplay on rock radio were “Fire in the Hole” (help·info) and “One I Want”. The album’s final song, “How Many Say I”, was an unusual acoustic piano ballad featuring guitarist Eddie Van Halen (mostly) on lead vocals with Gary Cherone doing vocals with him at the chorus. “Year to the Day” is also featured.
Another song entitled “That’s Why I Love You” was dropped at the last minute in favor of “Josephina” at Warner Brother’s insistence. This remains a mystery as the song was a fan favorite and much more immediately accessible (radio-wise) according to numerous fan forums. According to Cherone (in a 1999 interview) the band had originally planned for “That’s Why I Love You” to be a single from the album.[citation needed]
This album also contributed the song “Fire in the Hole” to the Lethal Weapon 4 movie soundtrack.
As of January 2009, this album is no longer in print.
Anthony is still part of the shared songwriting credits, and appeared on the videos to “Without You” and “Fire in the Hole.”
Ernie Ball music Man Axis Guitarist John Denner

This song was inspired by the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, a concert held during 3 days of the “Summer of Love” 1967 featuring The Who The Byrds Janis Joplin and many others.
Attended by about 200,000 music fans, it happened 2 years before Woodstock. Jimi Hendrix wrote about the atmosphere at the festival as if it was a girl. He described the feeling as “Everybody really flying and in a nice mood.” He named it “Little Wing” because he thought it could just fly away

The guitar on the song is played in a very unique style. Jimi Hendrix frets the roots of chords with his thumb, and then elaborates on them. It often involves shifts of quartile to tertian harmony and vice versa. In theory it is quite similar to the Jazz style of chord melody. (thanks, Ken – Tigard, OR)
The percussion instrument that sounds like a xylophone is a glockenspiel, an instrument popular in marching bands containing steel bars that are stuck with hammers to produce notes.
Jimi ran his guitar through a Leslie speaker to create an unusual sound. The Leslie speaker was designed for organs and contains a rotating paddle that distorts the sound.
In 1963 Jimi recorded a song that may have been a precursor to this. The song “Fox,” which was one of his first recordings was played with sax player Lonnie Youngblood and sounded very similar to this.
This is one of the songs that had to be remixed just before the album was released when one of the master tapes went missing. No one ever found out what happened to the original tape but its been speculated that Jimi either accidentally left the tape in a taxi or purposely disposed of the tape because he wasn’t satisfied with its sound.
This song, along with “Spanish Castle Magic,” are the only songs Hendrix ever performed in concert from his Axis Bold as Love album. He played this live only 8 times. (thanks, Bertrand – Paris, France)
Hendrix has described this as being one of the few he likes from this album. He said “Little Wing” is “like one of those beautiful girls that come around sometimes.” Hendrix enjoyed writing slow songs because it was easier to put emotion into them.
The same day they recorded Layla, Eric Clapton and Duane Allman recorded this as a tribute to Jimi, who was one of their guitar heroes. Jimi Hendrix died 9 days later. He never heard their version of his song, which was released in 1970 on the Derek and the Dominos album, Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs
Irish pop band The Corrs covered this on their Live Unplugged acoustic album. thanks, Nick – Cambridge, England

“No! Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try.”
- Yoda
How often have we all said “I’ll try” when asked to do something? But the fact is, either you will do it… or you won’t. There really is no “trying” as Yoda has pointed out. Either you will pick up that spoon… or you won’t. Either you will make that phone call… or you won’t. Either you will learn that guitar solo… or you won’t. There is no “in between” which “trying” implies.

Michael Jackson Beat It from the album THRILLER
Released in 1982, the Quincy Jones-produced Thriller refined the strengths of Off the Wall; the dance and rock tracks were more driving, the pop tunes and ballads softer and more soulful, and all of it was recognizably Michael. Jackson brought in Paul McCartney for a duet, guitarist Eddie Van Halen for a jaw-dropping solo, and Vincent Price for a creepy recitation

Hello fellow Scouters, I hope you all had a great Christmas. As Scout leaders, we are in a competiti

Hello fellow Scouters,

I hope you all had a great Christmas. As Scout leaders, we are in a competition - we are competing with other youth programs for the increasingly divided time of parents and children. This is not news, as we deal with this all the time. Since this is the time of New Year resolutions, here is one to consider: Let’s face this challenge head-on by making the Scouting program we oversee the most fun we can this coming year.

Those of us in private industry understand competition. It’s a challenge we face every day. Other companies court our customers. They can make more technologically innovating products. They can make cheaper products. But competition brings out the best in a company. A company cannot rest. It must continue to innovate, look for efficiencies, and open up new doors in sales. And we as Scouters can learn from this – competition can make our programs better. We can face the challenge of other youth programs head-on by making the great program provided by the Boy Scouts of America the most fun event that your boys will have in a week. Our goal is for little Johnny to say “I can’t wait for Tuesday to get to the den meeting!”

Here are some suggestions to help:

Games – every meeting should have a fun game. Don’t sacrifice game for the advancements. It’s important to work towards the ranks, but it can’t be the end all – rank advancement is a method of Scouting, not a purpose. There might be times when you, gasp!, only have time for a game. And that’s OK (provided it’s not every meeting). As I have said before, plan your meeting around a game; don’t plan a game for your meeting.

Advancements – we don’t want to go too fast towards completion of a rank, but we don’t want to go too slow either. So work at a pace so the boys will understand what they are working on, but won’t grow bored. And consider the mind of the boys we have. If a requirement would seem slow or boring to your Scouts, and you can’t figure out a way to liven it up, then either skip it or have the parents do it at home.

Just say “No” to lectures - always take the requirements and make them fun and interesting. Don’t ever make it a lecture. The boys shouldn’t be sitting down and listen to us speak. If there is a time where a requirement asks us to discuss something, then have a box of cookies to pass around while we discuss. And make the lecture’s time end by the time the cookies have made it to the end of the group. And make it an interactive time where they are discussing and asking questions (and munching on cookies).

Outings – get outside of the meeting place. Have den outings. Have Webelos den campouts. Go hiking. We can have outings that don’t meet a requirement in the book, but are just fun and interesting place to see. Go places. See things.

Don’t do it alone – if we have a den of 8, then we have 7 other parents who can assist us. Don’t be afraid to delegate and ask for help. Learn to take your program and give out pieces of it so you aren’t running the whole show. The Tiger program has the shared leadership function, where every parent is supposed to be a leader. We often make the mistake when we become Wolf scouts by having one or two leaders take over and do it all, with the parents moved to the sidelines in a spectator role. Consider assigning tasks to parents. Have parents rotate bringing a game or craft to the meeting. Have a parent in charge of tour permits. Have a parent scout interesting places for outings. Creating a fun program can take work, and it’s best to share the load.

Get a Den Chief – our Scouts will always look up to an older boy. A Den Chief can be a great addition to the team. He can help in games or crafts, and he will serve as a good role model for the boys.

So as Scout leaders, our charge is to Keep It Simple, Make It Fun. Competition is not a threat to our programs, it’s an opportunity to make our programs better! It’s okay if our boys are in sports and other activities. If our Scouting program is fun, they will stay because they don’t want to leave.

(This is written primarily for Cub Scout den meetings, but can be applied to pack meetings and outings.)

How are you attacking the challenge of divided interests? Please leave what you do to make your program fun in the comments section.

In Scouting,

-Scouter Jeff <><

Hello fellow Scouters,

This is part 3 in my take on Webelos to Scout transition, this time dealing with the patrol method of scouting. In Boy Scouts, the patrol method is used to teach the boys to work as a team, sharing responsibilities to help achieve success for the patrol. Webelos are not a patrol, they are still a den. But in looking to prepare my den for Boy Scouts, I have incorporated the following ideas from the patrol method.

Identity – at the end of our Bear year, the boys, not me, selected the patrol name and patch they would use as Webelos. A leader in our unit a few years back that chose the name himself, and he missed a great opportunity to let the boys have a say in how the den is run. My den chose the fox patch. As with Boy Scouts, they get to be creative with their name in our pack, so they chose to call themselves the “Cool Foxes”. I even found a stuffed fox on-line that looks like the patrol patch fox! He’s our mascot. Here’s a link to the different patrol patches: http://www.boyscouttrail.com/patrol-patch.asp

Flag – for our flag, I made a flag that looks like the patrol patch they chose. Knowing someone that sews is such a great thing! In hindsight, this might have been a good project to have the boys do, maybe over the summer after we became Webelos.

Patrol Yell – I had the boys come up with a patrol yell, which they wrote at our first campout as Webelos. It’s not fancy but it’s something they created.

Leadership – if you are not using the denner / assistant denner by the time you are Webelos, you need to. It’s an outstanding way to start teaching leadership. Our denner is in charge of opening and closing ceremonies. Now that we are second year Webelos, I tell the boys that I shouldn’t be involved in the opening or closing ceremonies (I am there to help, though). The denner gets other tasks as well throughout his term.

Campout Planning – at the start of our second year as Webelos this past September, we had 4 campout opportunities in the fall: Two in October and two in November. Since I want to only have one a month, I could have chosen one each month and put it on the calendar. But this is a great opportunity to let the boys start choosing what they want to do, as the will be doing in Boy Scouts. So we sat down and voted on which campouts we would go to as a den. They chose one troop/den campout and last weekend’s council-wide Webelos Woods campout.

Cooking/Meal Planning – after becoming Webelos, whenever we have a campout (either den or pack campouts), we use the patrol method for handling meals. The den meeting before the campout the boys choose the menu and set up the duty roster, so all get an opportunity to cook and clean up (and learn the painful lesson that cooks eat last). For meals I pull the boys away from their parents and we cook, eat, and clean up as a group. They will be doing this as Boy Scouts, so hopefully this will get them ready for this aspect of camping.

Tent Sharing – with my older son’s den a few years back, I never had the boys leave their parent’s tent. When we had our first troop/Webelos campout, and the troop ask the boys to form patrols and share tents with another Webelos scout away from their parents, one of the boys in that den freaked out. He had never been away from his parents. It was a lesson to me, with my current den, to try to get the boys out of their parent’s tent, in preparation for Boy Scouts (with the parents permission). We started with our first year as Webelos. We had the Webelos share a tent with each other at a campout, with the parents tenting nearby. One boy couldn’t make it through the night and went to his dad’s tent, which was OK. We keep doing it so they can get over the fear of not being with their parent. I don’t want their first campout in Boy Scouts to have to deal with this.

[A couple of reminders are in order here. You cannot take your den camping until they become Webelos. Before that, you can only go to pack and council campouts. And Webelos camping is still parent-son camping, so a parent needs to attend. And a Webelos can never sleep in a tent of another parent - only his own parent or legal guardian].

These are some of the ways I’ve tried to introduce the patrol method of Boy Scouting to my Webelos den. The hope is that all this will ease their transition into Boy Scouting. If you have any ideas to bring the patrol method into a Webelos den, please post them in the comments. We’d love to hear what you’ve done to get your Webelos ready for Boy Scouts.

SO-Normally I wait and finish my glass (or bottle as it often goes) until I begin my post, but this is simply too delightful for patience.

Brian Benson has certainly impressed me and gained a far new respect-this by far is the best Syrah I have tasted, and am anxious to retrieve more of it.

It all started with my fiance and his curiosity to woot and woot wine (of all places). Wow, am I ever pleased and delighted with this find. This particular purchase offered a vertical tasting of a 2004 and a 2005, which if you have read my ‘Vintage Beautiful Vintage’ entry you know it is something I look for. As much as I enjoyed the 2004- and I assure you I most certainly did, the 2005 bottle has vanished faster than any bottle in our household, and believe you me that is saying something.

It is everything I love in a wine and look for in a Syrah. When a dear friend of ours who has worked harvests from South Africa to California alerted us of the beauty of this wine we knew we were in great hands. He informed us that the Denner vineyards produced the best grapes for Syrah and Brian Benson Cellars truely cared for their wines.

He must, too, beginning at such a young age he is certainly in the right place. He began his training at his Grandfather’s vineyard and later his Father’s winery- he learned about the process of wine making before completing elementary school.

This is a beauty to be enjoyed by all and I encourage you to look into a bottle for yourself if not your friends as well. www.BrianBensonCellars.com will give you more about it, and at the age of 25 he is certainly making an impression in the wine industry. Have a taste and delight for yourself- I certainly am and will continue to do so.
