It’s nearly weekend. I am thrilled for the long weekend ahead. Yey! I’ll be able to catch some decent sleep.

I had tooth extraction this morning at our company hospital. Since I can now feel the effect of the anesthesia waning, I’m gonna bore you this afternoon with my tooth extraction details. Haha.

I am just too sleepy. Zzzzz…

My second time to get a tooth extracted. The first one was a baby wisdom tooth which was started growing since last year. (Yeah my two wisdom teeth just started to grow recently).It had to be removed ‘coz it was pushing its neighbor tooth and disaligning my jaw. Had it removed two months ago. The same was the case for this morning. Haha, notice my terms–baby wisdom tooth and neighbor tooth. Haha. Going crazy.

I wanna post about the injustice in the south or New Moon or 2012 or pretty clothes or exams but I am not in the mood so here I am blabbering about wisdom teeth. Critical world issue huh?

I just wanna say that I really love the feeling of anesthesia once it takes effect on the gums and the side of the toungue. I would want to be injected again given any time. But the procedure per se is a different thing. I didn’t feel any pain yet the sound was really scary. It sounds like when dismantling wood. Your tooth being pulled from your skeletal system. And I don’t like the taste of rubber gloves on my mouth. Haha. Pardon me. This is just one of those days that I lack any deep analytical brainy prowess over things.

I realized I couldn’t be a dentist. I just don’t have the patience and I am too clumsy to be one. My dentist was nice and soft-spoken, I think most are. He gave me my tooth and I lost it again. No tooth fairy for tonight.

Damn, I was kinda hoping for a more dramatic update about the wisdom teeth extraction, an entry filled with blood and near-death experiences and gory adult teeth with long roots dangling from the ends.

But to be honest, the whole thing went smoothly. I feel fine, other than being ravenously hungry while my roommate is eating delicious greasy chicken right in front of me and all I can get down is a pudding. And the gauze in my mouth is still soaked in blood, and now I have big bag of bloody gauze in my bedroom. The sheer sight of it makes me want to scream. Sexy?

I was super, super freaked out about this surgery. I don’t know why, but mostly I think I was afraid of the anaesthesia. For real. I knew being IV sedated would be my best option, but I’ve heard that redheads need more anaesthesia than other people and I was terrified I’d be one of those weird cases where I’d be paralysed but totally conscious of everything going on, including a scalpel cutting into my gums.

But when I woke up after being sedated, I felt incredible. It was the most bizarre, relieving feeling I’ve ever had. I wasn’t even high, although I did kinda stumble around the pharmacy like a drunkard, my cheeks swollen with gauze stuffing and blood crusted to my lips. I crawled up the stairs when I got home and popped a few drugs, watched a movie with Chef and spent the remainder of the day camped on the futon.

The pharmacist did, however, tell me she required an enema after taking the Atasol-3o drugs I’m on. That’s the most I’ve ever needed to know about a stranger.

Then I ate ice-cream. Lots and lots of ice-cream.

Now I have a surgical glove filled with my wisdom teeth, and I don’t really know what possessed me to keep them. Does the tooth fairy visit for these sort of things? Could he or she possibly bring me $600 to help with my new websites? Sprinkle some stardust over my head so I can win the lottery and move on?

Totally taking advantage of these days off to do NOTHING. I apologize in advance for lack of drunken stories.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and as one of the most anticipated holidays of the year, people don’t usually think of their dentist. (No matter how many foods Thanksgiving is associated with.)

The medical ward at Glovemansion has some kinky nurses, doctors, surgeons and patients! They all have one thing in common…their love for latex and surgical gloves. You likely may receive antibiotics and possibly something for the pain. Whoever said an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure may not have been entirely off the mark. This is especially true when one considers that taking the right action now can save costly problems in the future, and for an example of how this works, look no further than the trunk of your car.Why? Because that is most likely where your spare tire is. Most of today’s cars come with what is often referred to as a “donut,” or “space-saver” spare tire, much smaller in diameter and tread-width that the car’s other tires. As the name implies, this type of spare tire was designed literally to save space and to provide more trunk room, especially as modern cars became smaller, and is supposed to be used only on a temporary basis.While many people may be aware that their spare tire is smaller, they are unaware that donut spare tires are for only temporary, limited use. Unlike the full-sized spare tires of the past, these smaller tires are not designed to be used for a prolonged period of time, or as a replacement for a regular tire. Their sidewall and tread are smaller and thinner than a regular tire, and much more prone to damage and accelerated wear.Another thing most drivers may not realize is that donut spare tires are only safe to use at lower speeds, usually at no more than 50 MPH. Again, this is because the tire was designed to be used temporarily to enable the motorist to get their car safely off the road and to the shop for the repair or replacement of the service tire.However, there is one thing almost all drivers fail to recognize, and that is that the air pressure in these spare tires needs to be checked and adjusted periodically, just as with any tire. Space-saver tires typically require a much higher pressure than a conventional tire does. The recommended pressure is provided on the sidewall of the tire, and may be as high as 60 PSI. Maintaining the correct air pressure is crucial to the performance and safety of any tire, but with these smaller donut spare tires it is critical. Already smaller and lighter in design, low air pressure will definitely cause them to fail prematurely. Hidden out of sight under a cover in the bottom of the trunk, most people forget about them until they have a flat tire and need to use them. Having a flat tire is always an inconvenience, but it can become a disaster if your spare tire is flat. What do you do then?To avoid such a scenario from happening to you, make it a point to periodically check the pressure in your donut tire, or have your mechanic do it for you. Doing so could very well save you from the added aggravation and expense of having to have your car towed. This is called “preventive maintenance.”This same principle applies to your oral health, too. Scheduling regular check-ups by your dentist will ensure healthy teeth and gums. Unlike your car’s tires, the care of your teeth and gums is important to both your natural good looks and your overall health. Waiting until a tooth hurts to see your dentist is a bad idea. Pain is your body’s way of letting you know something is wrong. Having regular check-ups will enable your dentist to treat any oral health problems before they become major, and often before there is a problem at all. Neglecting your oral care could not only adversely affect your overall health, but could also result in serious tooth and gum issues, and additional discomfort and costs, which is why we encourage you to schedule regular check-ups. Our offices are open seven days a week, every day of the year, including holidays. In order to accommodate the personal schedules of our patients, our hours are 8:00 am to 9:00 pm Monday through Friday, and 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. So, an ounce of prevention can really be worth at least as much as a pound of cure. Whether it is checking the pressure of your spare tire or having your dentist check the health of your teeth, taking the right action now before there is a problem saves a lot of trouble later. Call it cheap insurance.

I’ve never had a worse experience at the pediatric dentist as this past Saturday, yes Saturday!  My poor son Ryan is only 5, and his back molar tooth was hurting bad, so he woke up at night crying.  We gave him baby motrin, and he did go back to sleep. 

But what are we supposed to do now, the last dental appt did not touch that tooth, his mouth is full with issues!  (His sisters isn’t much better).  I scheduled him an emergency Sat appt, and was thinking it would be good to just get it taken care of. 

 I went in, brought my Kid’s Stuff coupon book to brouse through and find a fun activity to do afterwards with the family, and to take his mind off being at the dentist.  His appt was 2:00.  After we arrived, they were running late, no biggie, they have video games there, Pac Man… and Ryan loves them.  This is one reason he liked the new dentist.  We’ll that thought was surely short lived.

When he went in, she said he needed a baby root canal (pulbodimy?) I think she called it?  And the tooth right next to it, a cavity or potential root canal too?  She said no problem, we’ll take care of them both now. 

Ok I thought, one less trip and one less novicane needle to have to go through.  He picked Vanilla sweet air, and then was ok for his needle, a bit swirmy, but ok.  I thought, ok great the worst is over.  Boy was I WRONG! 

The Doc started to work on the back molar, and he started screaming!  I said what’s the problem?  He doesn’t feel anything right?  She said, (while holding him down from kicking and screaming), oh, yeah,  he has a HOT tooth and then she gave him another shot right into his exposed nerve, and he hollared, crying with dripping tears and saying for me to help him! 

I am sick even thinking about it now.  He from then on, he did not stop going absoulutly crazy,  the nerve novicane did nothing buy torture him!  I think he would have been more comfortable if she was sawing him arm off! 

She said, with a tooth like this, the novicane doen’t really work.  I said, then okay, were outta here…but he was still going balistic even when she wasn’t touching him.  I think he was just anticipating the pain, and he had NEVER had an experience at the dentist like this (we were both caught off guard).

I told her to pull the tooth if that would help him, just anything to stop his pain,… she said she couldn’t, and an oral surgeon would have too.  Her assistant called 3 and no one was there on the weekend. 

I said for her to get the brackets out of his mouth because this was too much.  She said I can’t the root is exposed, then she said she could squirt this gell on the nerve and kill it.  She had already put cotton in his mouth and he wanted nothing to do with her getting the antiseptic swab out, I told him I would do it, I was beside myself, and he was still screaming!

  Finally we got the brackets out of his mouth, and she put the gel on the tooth and a quick VERY quick temp white cavity filling.  I thought once she put the nerve gel on, he would be okay, but NO he began yelling it’s cold, make it stop mommy…

This is after she was all done with the little she got done.  She said that’s all I can do if he won’t stay still for the root canal.  Of course he won’t would you??

Apparently a HOT tooth, is an infected one that usually has the patient on antibiotics for 3 days prior, would have been nice if she had told me before she started anything.  He was MUCH better before his visit, wish I knew.  I am tramitized still, and he is.  The ENTIRE 30 minute ride home, he kept begging me to  make the cold stop, “mommy please, help me…please I can’t stop crying…it hurts, please help me” as I’m practically driving off the road in panic. 

The dentist told me to give him the Tylenol with Codine prescription I got over the phone the day before to hold him over.  She also gave him the antibiotic he needed BEFORE the appt prescription to be picked up.  Poor Ryan, had to wait 30 minutes in EXCRUCIATING pain for me to get home, to get any pain relief!  I thought about making a stop at the ER cause that’s how much pain he was in, but then headed home for the medicine.

Luckily after we got home, I gave him the medicine, and he just wanted to lay in his bed.  Finally he fell asleep, THANK GOD! When he was sleeping, I called an oral surgeon, thinking that he was in this much pain with double novicane, I don’t even want to know how he’ll feel when that wears off!  The oral surgeon called the on-call surgeon and was supposed to call me right back.  NO CALL DID I GET UNTIL MONDAY! 

THANK GOD,  when he awoke, he felt better, perhaps the nerve died?  I don’t want to take him back to find out.  We stayed home the rest of the day, so much for a fun family day!

P.S.  As you can guess, I am despirately seeking a Sedation Dentist, the kind you get the pill or drink 30 minutes prior to work, and they can do hours of dental work in one day, without the patient even knowing.  CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A SEDATION DENTIST IN NEW JERSEY?? (NOT JUST NITRIS OXIDE, WE NEED THE BIG DOGS!)  That is our next stop cause he will NEVER go back with good reason to a regular dentist!
