Millions of people around the world have been fitted with artificial teeth or denture plates, bridge

Millions of people around the world have been fitted with artificial teeth or denture plates, bridges or other appliances to make their smile more attractive or to enable them to eat more easily. Our teeth help us present a beautiful smile to the world, eat, talk and express ourselves. That’s why the average person will spend thousands of dollars to regain the use of their lost teeth.

Caring for dentures is very important once you’ve purchased them. Even though your dentist has pulled most or all of your remaining teeth out of your mouth you still must continue to perform dental care each day.

Your dentures or appliances are an investment into your health, wellness and appearance. They probably cost you several hundred, if not thousand, of dollars and so caring for dentures is nothing more than watching out over your investment.

There are several steps to caring for dentures that will help you NOT to take shortcuts that result in stained, broken or ill-fitting teeth. This will make the dentures or appliance uncomfortable to wear. When you are placing your dentures into your mouth you’ll want to experiment with a good dental adhesive until you find one that allows your dentures to fit properly and work well all day. If you stuff the appliance into your mouth it can lead to sores or a poor fit that then leads to poor speech, difficulty eating and dentures that may fall out while you’re smiling!

When you take your dentures or appliance out you should brush them at least daily. This is best done at night after you are done eating and on your way to bed. Use toothpaste that your dentist will recommend and treat them like you would your own teeth. You can soak them in the suggested solution overnight unless you usually wear them during sleep. In the morning you must rinse off all excessive toothpaste or soaking solution and use non-alcohol mouthwash for extra antibacterial properties.

Caring for dentures goes beyond just the appliance. When you are brushing those dentures or appliance you should also be brushing your tongue and gums to decrease the amount of bacteria that are living in your mouth.

If you find anything wrong with your appliance or dentures you must report them to your dentist. When you take them out during the night to care for them you should inspect them for chips, bends, cracks, breaks or warps. If you leave the dentures out of your mouth for more than 24 hours your mouth will go back to the position it held before. This will make wearing the dentures again difficult and sometimes painful.

There are a few things you should never do when you are manipulating and caring for dentures. You should never use sand paper or files to adjust your dentures. You’ll ruin the fit and it may not be able to be corrected. Do not clean your dentures with boiling water because you’ll ruin the product that it’s made with. Do not use an abrasive powder when you clean the dentures but instead use the toothpaste that your dentist recommended. Not only will the powder damage the dentures but it isn’t meant for ingestion into your body. It is very difficult to get rid of all of the product off of your dentures.

Caring for dentures isn’t difficult or rocket science but it takes a little time and effort to protect the investment you made when you first sat for the fitting and purchased the appliance. With good denture care you’ll be rewarded with a great smile, functional appliance and the ability to eat and speak without difficulty.

DENTAL TREATMENT IN INDIA Today’s India offers World Class Medical Facilities, comparable with

DENTAL TREATMENT IN INDIA

Today’s India offers World Class Medical Facilities, comparable with any of the western countries. India has state of the art Hospitals and the best qualified doctors. With the best infrastructure, the best possible Medical facilities, accompanied with the most competitive prices, you can get the treatment done in India at the lowest charges.

India as a global medical tourism destination, it could capitalise on the low-cost, high-quality medical care available in the country. India, touted as one of the favorite destinations for information technology majors, is currently emerging as the chosen destination for medical or health tourism. The Government of India, State tourism boards, travel agents, tour operators, hotel companies and private sector hospitals are exploring the medical tourism industry for tremendous opportunities. They are seeking to capitalise on the opportunities by combining the country’s popular leisure tourism with medical tourism.

When it comes to Dental Treatment, it is most expensive in any western countries like US or UK. Patients from these countries visit India to have their Dental Treatment done at a very reasonable affortable cost. Here the dentist are well-experienced and highly qualified English speaking with extensive international qualifications. You get the right diagnosis and proper care and well equipped treatment in a comparative low price.

Some of the Dental treatment that are taken care of are

Dental Caps / Dental Crowns
Dental caps, more correctly known as Dental Crowns, are used by dentists to cover the entire tooth as opposed to fillings which are used to patch holes in teeth. A filling fills a part of the tooth whereas a cap covers the whole tooth.Caps are predesigned custom made covers so as to protect root systems that have become exposed due to decayed, diseased, or injured teeth. Caps can be made of metal, porcelain or plastic, with porcelain being the most expensive, but most durable. They are the most important part of a cosmetic surgery used to beautify existing teeth that don’t suffer from any serious complications.

Dental Bonding
It is also known as composite bonding or tooth bonding. It is one of the excellent way to fix cosmetic and structural imperfections in your teeth. Dental bonding can repair cracked, chipped, and discolored teeth along with replace silver amalgam fillings. Dental bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-colored resin material (a durable plastic material) is applied and hardened with a special light, which ultimately “bonds” the material to the tooth . Cosmetic bonding can also repair misaligned teeth and provide you a straighter and more uniform smile. One can draw a parallel between dental bonding materials and a sculptor’s clay. By using dental composite resin bonding your dentist can restore chipped or broken teeth, fill in gaps and reshape or recolor your smile.

Dental Implants
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants are an ideal option for people in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, failure of endodontics, an injury, or some other reason.Dental implants are actually more tooth saving than traditional bridgework, since implants do not rely on neighboring teeth for support. Treatment with a dental implant involves placing implants in areas where there are no teethand by so doing, the bone area is stimulated again and this prevents long term bone loss in that area. If a bridge that connects two teeth is used instead of a dental implant, pressure is not applied on the jaw bone! Therefore the bone is not stimulated and begins to shrink away. Conclusion – dental implants preserve the underlying jawbone.

Dentures for Missing Teeth
Dentures are the best alternative for the missing teeth. They are false teeth made of acrylic resin sometimes in combination with various metals. They are used as removable replacements for missing teeth. Dentures can be complete or partial. Complete dentures replace all the teeth that covers your entire upper or lower jaw, while a partial denture are used when only a few teeth are missing and to fill in the spaces created by missing teeth so as to prevent other teeth from changing position.

Root Canals
root canal is the space within the root of a tooth. It is part of a naturally occurring space within a tooth that consists of the pulp chamber. “Root canal” is the term used to describe the natural cavity within the center of the tooth. The pulp or pulp chamber is the soft area within the root canal. The tooth’s nerve lies within the root canal. The dental pulp is the tissue which forms the dentin portion of the tooth. When the tiny canals are infected by bacteria the pulp present inside the tooth is infected and the tooth pains. The procedure of removal of this diseased pulp is known as root canal as the procedure undergoes a treatment till the root canal of the tooth.A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and abscesses may form.

Teeth whitening
Stained and discolored teeth look ugly and affect your appearance and personality. Teeth whitening can help you get back your naturally white sparkling teeth. Teeth whitening removes the stains and debris, leaving the enamel cracks open and exposed. Some of these cracks are quickly re-mineralized by saliva, while others rare filled up again with organic debris. Dental bleaching, also known as tooth whitening, is a common procedure in general dentistry but most especially in the field of cosmetic dentistry. Teeth whitening procedures are performed in the dental office or can be performed at home. Whitening the teeth 2-3 shades can make a significant difference in a persons smile.

Some other dental treatments like teeth Fillings are also taken care of.

Medical Tourism in India is being offered by India4Health, IndiaHeals, Medical tourism singapore, they arrange for Travel, medical treatment, hospitalization, stay in India.
Visitors, especially from the United States of America, United Kingdom and the middle-east find Indian hospitals a very affordable and viable option to coping with insurance and National medical systems in their respective countries. Travelers prefer to combine their medical treatments with a visit to the ‘exotic east’ with their families, visiting places like the Taj Mahal in Agra, the palaces in Rajasthan, the serene beaches in Goa and the mountains of Kashmir and the backwaters of Kerela among others. The total price of an overseas treatment with airfare, hotel accommodation and even a few days of vacation is often far less than just the procedure cost back in the US or UK

Experience of Denture in Thailand I had a good experience getting a dental procedure done in thailan

Experience of Denture in Thailand

I had a good experience getting a dental procedure done in thailand. Initially I was a little apprehensive but once I landed at the hospital, the experience turned out really well. The doctors were very professional and the infrastructure was impressive.

It might be due to age or tooth decay i had lost most of my teeth. It was very difficult for me to chew my foods properly and my facial appearance also changed not only that my speech also changed, making me appear older than what i was. It had a negative effects on your self-confidence. I was totally demoralized by my appearance and the way my speech sounded.

The dentists there helped me out of this problem. They suggested me for Complete Denture. They explained me in details that Dentures are the best alternative for the missing teeth.
There are two types of dentures Complete denture and Partial denture. When all your teeth are missing, a complete denture is used to replace them (your entire upper or lower jaw). Complete dentures are either “conventional” or “immediate.” Partial denture or overdenture is used if only a few teeth are needed to be replaced. Partial dentures can prevent your existing healthy teeth from shifting following tooth loss.

The procedure to get my missing teeth back was also very simple. In few appointment i looked different. It improved my chewing ability and my speech, and provided a support to my facial muscles. It greatly enhanced my facial appearance and smile.

I thank to ThaiMediHealth.com and they helped me arrange the treatment and stay in Thailand. Its been 7 months now and I look great. I wish the doctors and the staff success .

I must appreciate the government of Thailand have also realized the potential of this niche segment and have begun to tailor their services for foreign visitors.Today Thailand offers world class medical facilities, comparable with any of the western countries. Thailand has state of the art hospitals and the best qualified doctors. With the best infrastructure, the best possible medical facilities, accompanied with the most competitive prices, you can get the treatment done in Thailand at the lowest charges. You can also get help from Indiaheals.com that helps international patients interface with the best hospitals in Asia.

Many people, as they get older, begin to care less about their oral health because they no longer worry about the aesthetics. But for seniors, many issues with oral health can lead to greater health problems and impact overall quality of life, which is why it’s crucial that they have a good understanding of the potential problems and receive care from a qualified dental professional. Here are some of the issues that seniors can face as they age with regards to their oral health:

Gum disease – gum disease isn’t uncommon amongst seniors who do not keep up with proper oral care, or have dental appliances like bridges or dentures that do not fit properly

Tooth loss – tooth loss is often a result of gum disease in many cases. Often, seniors who avoid going to a dentist for a tooth ache or other evident issue can eventually lose their teeth if the dental problems are not treated

Dry mouth – adequate saliva production is necessary for oral health. Dentists can recommend seniors products that will help them ensure that their teeth and mouth are well protected

Darkened teeth – many seniors complain that their teeth have changed color as they get older. While this is not necessarily a medical condition, it is possible to treat discoloration at home or with the advice of a dentist

ToothSavers sees many senior patients every year and can provide solutions to all of the above issues with regards to oral health. One ToothSavers’ patient provided the following statement after receiving superior care.

“I am a very modest worker and I’m not getting any younger. Therefore I was concerned about having a very professional job done on my dentures that I can appreciate for the rest of my life”

Today it was Sunday, the day of rest. It should really be spent chilling, drinking tea and watching

Today it was Sunday, the day of rest. It should really be spent chilling, drinking tea and watching illegal downloads. Especially since it was raining. Instead, I dragged my sorry ass out of bed to make the mission to Songjeong beach to go and collect my surfboard. It has been sitting there for two months, and I pay a rental fee to leave it there – so before it ticked over to 1st December I thought I best go collect it.

To get to Songjeong from my house involves the following transport route. 30 minute bus ride from my house to subway. Ride subway (with one changeover) for 40 minutes until the end of the line. Then catch bus to Songjeong or get a cab which costs 3500 won. So an hour and half later I am at the shop, drenched, searching for my board. It seemed to have been stolen – but my close to tears state of being was thankfully quelled when I (and a very nervous looking shop attendant) found my board stashed behind an enormous long board.

When I paid up my account, the lady shop owner led me to the wall in the lounge area and proudly showed me some pictures that had been blown up and stuck on a huge laminated poster. There I was, in all my poo-man glory…being dropped in on by their star surfer. Wow. Talk about awesome immortalised poses.

Eventually, what seemed like years later, I was on the final leg of my journey home. I was pushed into a chair by a well meaning Korean man and was gripping my board to stop it flying around the bus (yes, it’s a shitty thing to lug around on public transport but when it’s raining its even worse). Just when I was beginning to get bored after 5 hours of solid Sunday missioning, I looked over to the lady sitting parallel to me. She was playing with something in her hand but I couldn’t quite see what it was. Apparently there was no need to wonder what it was, because she deftly opened up her mouth and plunged it between her lips, smacked her gums noisily and then did a ‘testing’ smile into the window. Her toothy reflection smiled back at me.

Yes, when all else fails there WILL be someone putting their false teeth back in on the good old 71. I giggled the last 5 minutes home and then made some mini banana pancakes to save the day.

So you’re considering getting new dentures. Congratulations! New dentures can make a world of difference for you, especially when an old pair isn’t fitting comfortably anymore. Have you given any thought to same day dentures? When looking for a dentist that offers same day dentures, you typically start looking for dental clinics with an on-site lab.

Having dentures to replace misplaced teeth will help your appearance and can even help improve your speech if your old set didn’t fit properly. Dentures present facial sagging, keeping facial muscles firmer and helping keep you looking like you.

When you’re looking for same day dentures, you’ll likely find dental offices that provide “immediate” dentures, which are a temporary set that you get while your permanent dentures are being created. Don’t confuse these “immediate” dentures with what I’m talking about. I’m talking about permanent, same day dentures. These aren’t a temporary pair, the office is making your permanent set while you are sitting in the waiting room.

For most offices you’ll come in the morning to have impressions made. Then, while you wait, the denture lab will start making your dentures from the mold the dentist just took. You’ll receive your same day dentures by the end of the day, custom made to fit your mouth. And, while you may have to wait 8 hours, you won’t be spending weeks, or months, without your dentures.

Oral cancer is a pathologic process which begins with an asymptomatic stage during which the usual cancer signs may not be readily noticeable. This makes the oral cancer examinations performed by the dentist critically important. Oral cancers can be of varied histologic types such as teratoma, adenocarcinoma and melanoma. The most common type of oral cancer is the malignant squamous cell carcinoma. This oral cancer type usually originates in lip and mouth tissues.

There are many different places in the oral cavity and maxillofacial region in which oral cancers commonly occur, including:

Lips

Mouth

Tongue

Salivary Glands

Oropharyngeal Region (throat)

Gums

Face

Reasons for oral cancer examinations

It is important to note that around 75 percent of oral cancers are linked with modifiable behaviors such as smoking, tobacco use and excessive alcohol consumption. Your dentist can provide literature and education on making lifestyle changes and smoking cessation.

When oral cancer is diagnosed in its earliest stages, treatment is generally very effective. Any noticeable abnormalities in the tongue, gums, mouth or surrounding area should be evaluated by a health professional as quickly as possible. During the oral cancer exam, the dentist and dental hygienist will be scrutinizing the maxillofacial and oral regions carefully for signs of pathologic changes.

The following signs will be investigated during a routine oral cancer exam:

Red patches and sores – Red patches on the floor of the mouth, the front and sides of the tongue, white or pink patches which fail to heal and slow healing sores that bleed easily can be indicative of pathologic (cancerous) changes.

Leukoplakia – This is a hardened white or gray, slightly raised lesion that can appear anywhere inside the mouth. Leukoplakia can be cancerous, or may become cancerous if treatment is not sought.

Lumps – Soreness, lumps or the general thickening of tissue anywhere in the throat or mouth can signal pathological problems.

Oral cancer exams, diagnosis and treatment

The oral cancer examination is a completely painless process. During the visual part of the examination, the dentist will look for abnormality and feel the face, glands and neck for unusual bumps. Lasers which can highlight pathologic changes are also a wonderful tool for oral cancer checks. The laser can “look” below the surface for abnormal signs and lesions which would be invisible to the naked eye.

If abnormalities, lesions, leukoplakia or lumps are apparent, the dentist will implement a diagnostic impression and treatment plan. In the event that the initial treatment plan is ineffective, a biopsy of the area will be performed. The biopsy includes a clinical evaluation which will identify the precise stage and grade of the oral lesion.

Oral cancer is deemed to be present when the basement membrane of the epithelium has been broken. Malignant types of cancer can readily spread to other places in the oral and maxillofacial regions, posing additional secondary threats. Treatment methods vary according to the precise diagnosis, but may include excision, radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

During bi-annual check-ups, the dentist and hygienist will thoroughly look for changes and lesions in the mouth, but a dedicated comprehensive oral cancer screening should be performed at least once each year.

A denture is a removable dental appliance replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue. They are made to closely resemble your natural teeth and may even enhance your smile.

There are two types of dentures – complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. A Partial denture not only fills in the spaces created by missing teeth, it prevents other teeth from shifting.

A Complete denture may be either “conventional” or “immediate.” A conventional type is made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed, usually taking 4 to 6 weeks. During this time the patient will go without teeth. Immediate dentures are made in advance and immediately placed after the teeth are removed, thus preventing the patient from having to be without teeth during the healing process. Once the tissues shrink and heal, adjustments will have to be made.

Dentures are very durable appliances and will last many years, but may have to be remade, repaired, or readjusted due to normal wear.

What does getting dentures involve?

The process of getting dentures requires several appointments, usually over several weeks. Highly accurate impressions (molds) and measurements are taken and used to create your custom denture. Several “try-in” appointments may be necessary to ensure proper shape, color, and fit. At the final appointment, your dentist will precisely adjust and place the completed denture, ensuring a natural and comfortable fit.

It is normal to experience increased saliva flow, some soreness, and possible speech and chewing difficulty, however this will subside as your muscles and tissues get used to the new dentures.

You will be given care instructions for your new dentures. Proper cleaning of your new dental appliance, good oral hygiene, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new dentures. Call today 203-255-5999 for more information and what would work best for you.

It’s been a few days, and I thought it would be a good idea to sort of sum up Dad’s situ

It’s been a few days, and I thought it would be a good idea to sort of sum up Dad’s situation.

In case I haven’t mentioned it, Dad is out of the hospital now, and has moved back to the Holston Rehabilitation and Recovery Center. It’s like a rest home, but short term. His doctor feels that recovering enough to go home and continue to live independently is not an unreasonable goal. He’s shooting for being able to go home in eight to ten weeks. His lungs continue to recover, and now he’s off the supplemental oxygen. He’s quick to get out of breath when he exerts himself, and when I say exert himself, I mean gets out of bed or walks across the room. But that was expected, and we have hopes that it will improve.

My biggest concern currently is whether or not he will improve enough to live alone again. We don’t have space to take him in at my house. It’s just too tiny, and we both work. If he can’t live alone at his house, living alone at our house is hardly an improvement. Full time skilled nursing care in Knoxville TN runs about $4500.00 a month. He doesn’t make that. He makes about $3500 or so. And a lot of that is committed to things already. So there’s no way he can afford it. He does not have long term care insurance. His short term care insurance runs out in 79 days. I’m on pins and needles whether he’ll recover in time.

He won’t eat. He lost the last of his upper teeth a few months before the surgery, and then, with the surgery, he lost a bunch of weight. Now his upper plate doesn’t fit right, and he can’t chew. They’ve put him on a soft diet, and he’s essentially refusing to eat it. Imagine high-school cafeteria food that’s been pureed. I don’t suppose I’d eat it either. But he desperately needs to build up his strength and stamina, and that takes fuel. Three bottles on Ensure, three pints of milk, and a cup of pudding are taking a very long time to do that. When he was transferred back to Holston, he told his nursing aide that he’d been waiting to get back to Holston to eat, because he liked the food better than the hospital food.

I wanted to hit him over the head with a cafeteria tray.

He’s out of hospital gowns and wearing sweatsuits, and walking fifty feet twice a day. He can get out of bed by himself. (He’s still unsteady, so he needs a minder, but he’s now strong enough to do it without help.) If he can work up enough strength, I might be able to take him out to his dentist and get a new plate fitted.

But he needs to be enough of a grown-up to eat the nasty food that will fuel his body to heal before we can get to that point.

Aarrrrghhhh.

Let’s do a quick music rundown then move on to something else: 1. The new Converge is blowing

Let’s do a quick music rundown then move on to something else:

1. The new Converge is blowing my fucking brain with the dentures removed and a satin hand cupping the metaphysical balls located in my minds eye. Converge is one of those bands that I appreciate within the genre of hardcore and its offshoots because they’ve been doing their own thing for nearly 20 years, yet I’ve never been a big fan (don’t ask me why). Axe To Fall is an album that infuses more metal into their familiar sound than I have heard before and it puts a big dumb smile on my big dumb face. The later track Cruel Bloom features Steve Von Till from Neurosis doing vocals and I was convinced for this last week that it was none other than Tom Waits. That song solidified my love for this album. I’m a sucker for heavier bands throwing in something slow to the mix, yet still retaining the atmosphere and edge that at any moment they can break back into a breakdown, solo, or something that just makes me want to stomp a foot and slam my head around; this is one of those songs. This album has also worked the magic of making me want to trek back to their earlier work and chronologically move forward until this release. That doesn’t happen too often in my book, therefore I need to present a sacrifice to the Gods of Rock for bestowing me with this treasure. I figure some corndogs and porno mags I found in the alley will suffice. I’m so glad my Gods aren’t jealous Gods, just SUPER easy to please.

2. This is kinda old hat because I’ve been ranting about it for the last few weeks, but the sophomore release from Doomriders has been musical Viagra for me. I’ve had this fit of impotence when it comes to new music in my life and Darkness Come Alive has brought the “umph” back for me. It’s an album that makes me want to get up and do something. I listen to it and wanna get into a fight, chug a damn tall beer, kiss some random hard on the mouth, or fight demons with a broadsword. It has tracks that yell “FUCK YOU” at those helping hands out there that just want to assist in order to make themselves feel better (Knife Wound) and others that urge to keep a head up in a shitty world that just wants to take everything good and positive from you (Lions). If I like something I’ll try to keep up to snuff with it – whether it’s a band, film, or the next release from Joose – and sometimes that ends up biting me in my succulent ass. When you follow so closely to an interest in your life you’re bound to place it on a pedestal, hoping it’ll be the next best thing… that rarely holds true. I’d been waiting for the next full-length from Doomriders since ‘05 and in no way, shape, or form was I let down with this new one. Daddy like.

3. So much awesome has been oozing from Vol. 3 of the Comadre Mixtape I wrote about a little while back. I’ve been taking every possible chance to play the fucker for friends and whoever lately. From the track list I’ve been stumbling over some great new acts like Hour of The Wolf, Finest Dearest, and Glasses, but the group Heartsounds has nicked a place in my heart that rarely gets any attention: pop-punk. I remember buying Blink 182’s Dude Ranch in 7th or 8th grade and not wanting to leave my room as long as that album spun about in my twitchy CD player, the cordless house phone had enough battery to call a girl I liked, and there was Final Fantasy VII or Tekken 3 in my Playstation. Heartsounds has that comforting sound I remember jamming along to in my middle school sanctuary, yet it doesn’t feel like I’m displacing myself to far from the person I’ve grown in to, which is nice considering they play music in a genre that typically works more like a time machine for me these days. Broadway Calls is another recent band that has had the same affect on me. Is this a sign that I’m getting sappy in my years? Nope and to prove it I’m gonna go snort some razor blades. Why? Because I lost a bet with Nick Nolte. That bastard doesn’t screw about when it comes to gas-huffing competitions.

After doing a wee spellcheck I remembered that this was supposed to be a quick little blurp about music and then I was gonna go on about something else. Huh… I guess I lied.

There are many reasons why people lose their teeth including dental caries, periodontitis, and tooth

There are many reasons why people lose their teeth including dental caries, periodontitis, and tooth trauma. Dentists have been using dentures for numerous years to replace lost teeth. There are also other ways to replace lost teeth. Compromised oral function has been linked to decreased self-esteem and a decline in the quality of life. Adults with missing teeth or loose dentures may avoid certain social activities because they are embarrassed to speak, smile, or eat in front of others. Your teeth provide support and structure to your face and cheeks, and lost teeth may result in sagging cheeks, making you appear older than you really are. By replacing your teeth, you can remove years from your face.
Dentures are removable appliances to replace your teeth, and are made to look, feel, and function naturally. They are made to look like your teeth and gums, and look very realistic and natural and have a comfortable feeling. There are several different types of dentures, and these include partial and full dentures. Partial dentures are made when there are some teeth that are in good condition still remaining in your mouth, and full dentures are made when there are no teeth remaining in your mouth. Partial dentures are clasped onto your existing teeth, and will keep those teeth from shifting in your mouth. Made of acrylic resin and plastic or porcelain teeth, we can now give you many different aesthetic options to replace your missing teeth.
Full dentures are held in place by suction created on the roof of your mouth when the dentures are in place. Lower dentures do not have the same suction, due to their smaller surface area and your tongue and muscles of the mouth moving. These lower dentures may require an adhesive agent to hold them in place, as they can become loose upon eating. There is an alternative, You can have the option of having either dental implants, or miniature dental implants, placed into your gums and underlying bone, to stabilize the denture and hold it in place. This way you can eat anything you want without the worry of your dentures loosening or coming out. Many denture patients are receiving these implants, because they dramatically improve their confidence.
The best way to care for your dentures is to make sure they are kept clean. Your dentures should be removed while you sleep to allow your gums to rest, and allow them to be exposed to your mouth environment in order to keep them healthy. When you remove your dentures, you should brush them and soak them in cold water, or a cleaning tablet specifically made for this purpose that you place in water. DO NOT USE BLEACH! Also, brush your dentures again before replacing them back into your mouth. If your denture has large buildups and debris that you cannot remove by brushing, visit your dentist and have them or their dental hygienist remove the debris and clean your dentures. Even though you don’t have your natural teeth, it is very important for you to visit your dentist on a regular basis, in order to make sure that your dentures and your underlying supporting tissues are in good shape. They will also fit your dentures better if they are getting loose from shrinkage of the underlying tissues. Dentures that do not fit properly, cause gum irritation and inflammation, and other problems such as bad speech and inability to chew food.
Dentures can last quite a while if they are properly maintained by the patient and you visit your dentist regularly. There is some natural wear and wear that occur to dentures, especially those made with plastic teeth. These teeth wear more quickly than porcelain teeth. Also, your gums and underlying bone tissues may shrink causing your dentures to get loose and changing your bite in the process. Your dentist will reline or rebase your denture depending on the situation. However, it is highly recommended that you have new dentures made after five years.
Your dentist will perform a complete examination and take radiographs of your mouth. After discussing your needs and wants, your dentist will determine if dentures are right for you. If you already have an old denture, your dentist may use your old denture to take an impression of your mouth. If not, the dentist will decide if there are some questionable teeth remaining in your mouth that cannot be saved. After this is decided, the dentist will take impressions of your mouth and a bite registration, and stone models will be made of your mouth in the dental laboratory. Dental technician(s) will fabricate the best possible dentures according to your dentist’s instructions.
If you need to have teeth extracted, “immediate” dentures will be fabricated prior to teeth removal, and following the surgery, the denture is inserted immediately. This aids in the healing of the extraction sites and will act as a surgical stent. It allows you to function and have better aesthetics during the healing period. These dentures usually require relining with soft and/or medicated material while the tissues are healing and shrinking. “Regular” full dentures are fabricated after the healing is complete. This denture can usually be inserted 8-12 weeks after the teeth have been extracted.

I can’t say that this appointment was very enjoyable. It involved lots of shots of novocaine

I can’t say that this appointment was very enjoyable. It involved lots of shots of novocaine to get my top gum numb, and the periodontist had some trouble locating the fourth implant, as no part of it was visible through the gum. He had to consult my x-rays and his notes. Even with that, it involved a little bit of digging and required stitches. He put extenders on the four implants so that they wouldn’t get covered with tissue again. From what I’ve read, implants are typically covered while they’re in the healing phase and tissue punching is just another little bit of fun along the way.

Then I went to the dentist and he did some work on my denture. He needed to do a bit of grinding to accommodate the new hardware that was affixed to the implants. He also took a quick impression of the top. I asked the dentist for a light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel time-frame, and he told me it would be another two – three months.

In my head, I was basing a completion time-frame upon how long it took him to do the temporary dentures. I thought I’d be done within three – four weeks. But these permanent dentures are done a whole different way utilizing the implants. Different look. Different quality. Different mechanics. I guess that’s why there’s such a price differential between the temporary and the permanent teeth.

The dentist scheduled a three-hour appointment for the next week. I didn’t ask what was going to happen at this appointment, because I assumed he would be taking a bunch of impressions. In hindsight, I wish I would have asked some questions, because you know what happens when you assume anything.

After I got home from being tissue punched (literally) and punched in the gut (figuratively), I took advantage of a pain pill I had leftover from my initial surgery. Thank God I hadn’t used them all, because I was in pain.

There are numerous indignities associated with getting older – sagging breasts, wrinkles, age

There are numerous indignities associated with getting older – sagging breasts, wrinkles, age spots, and getting long in the teeth (literally! Like a horse!). To add to this list, a few years ago my dentist informed me that I am grinding my teeth to the nubbins, likening my molars to ice rinks that are being supported precariously by splintering icebergs. So he fitted me for a $400 mouthguard, a semi-opaque, pale yellow thumb-sized chunk of plastic that sits over my 4 upper front teeth, immortalizing my bucked toothiness forever. I didn’t wear it at all for the first couple of years as my vanity flatly refused to let me wear it to bed. But as my unprotected molars creaked under the strain, migraines and an inability to enjoy ice-cream or hot chocolate wore away at my vanity, until I was forced to put my money where my mouth is. My teeth are better but alas, middle of the night romps are now preceded by a distinctive click (to disengage the mouthguard from the teeth) and a wipe (to remove the strands of saliva strewn across my cheek). I’m glad he’s a sure thing or I’d be getting fitted for dentures soon!

a good steak is too tough on dentures anyway.

emily realized it was going to be a good holiday right as the clock struck midnight. turns out her good friend walter peña was turning one year older today. and the icing on the cake was that his rad girlfriend is vegetarian! an old person and a vegetarian? best couple ever! thanks lizzie and walter!

then it was time for a feast, veggie style.

any holiday that potentially requires us to cook, for lack of a better term, is one we have to work to get excited for. usually, we’re pretty good about passing the buck to someone else, and scoring ourselves a free meal but the odds weren’t looking so hot today. we tried our darndest to stay out of the kitchen, but our dreams of a delicious sushi dinner would render us pescaterians so we had to fend for ourselves. veronica headed to the grocery store to pick up some salad fixins’ and dumped some vegetables in a bowl, covered it with cholula, and called it a day whipped up a tasty little meal. now next time someone asks her the last time she ate a vegetable, she’ll actually know.

totes! veg!

Mari….that familiar voice cheered from inside the house. The windows and doors all wide open so the dust of the summer months could be blown around and exchanged by falls crisp air. Marilyn quickly greeted me with a big smile and a warm hug.

Well, let me see! I said. She opened her mouth, tilting back her head for examinations as we stood on the patio in the afternoon sun. I could clearly see the incision made by the DENTIST to remove some of the bone from the roof of her mouth; This painfully done so that she can get a new set of choppers.

He left her with a few teeth in the front, but it will be a long process of healing, soft food only and then removal of what little teeth he left making way for the new one’s! Which she hopes will be all done the first of the year – that being the goal.

OMG…..freak out! Now, I am the one who normally has no problem with medical issues. But….suddenly my stomach turned upside down as I saw what they had done to her.
Oh my…. it looks… <del datetime="2009-09-24T19:47:01+00:00">I cannot believe what I am seeing </del> good! I said.

I cannot eat. I am a little hungry, but I am doing OK, she said with a smile. Doing OK? I thought…. the roof of your month has been slit open like a bake potato! – have you ever burnt the roof of your mouth when eating a piece of pizza….. painful! Well…FYI…. this would be a billion times worse. You poor thing!

We headed for the kitchen table. The same round oak table that over the passed 30 some years has been one of our favorite spots to cry, laugh and solve all problems. We settled into our assigned chairs and the summit commenced.
