I’ve got another shopping spot for you shopaholics! I just had the chance to visit the Platinum Fash

I’ve got another shopping spot for you shopaholics! I just had the chance to visit the Platinum Fashion Mall (once again) this past weekend, and i was very astounded with the varieties of clothes being sold there…all i can say is it was astronomical. The first time i went there there wasn’t much open because it was closing time. But this time, i went during daytime and the place was swarming with clothes everywhere. I did go there with a mission though, so i did not go through every shop (that would take more than a day) and i was able to get a plain t-shirt with a v-shaped neck (the texture was very smooth and light) for 150baht each, which is just puny. i also got a short for just 250 baht but some shops also sell it at 300-500 baht, just depending on the design.

For the ladies, my friend got 3 different skirts, ranging at around 300-500 baht as well. The designs here are very very trendy and contemporary because the market for the buyers here are around the 15-30 or even 40 age because of the different selections available. Oh, and there are also a lot of nice jewelry shops, especially rings that are made uniquely and not sold because the sellers usually produce it themselves.

There’s a lot more products there, from shoes, bags, clothes (male & female) and just so much more i can’t take in, so go check it out! i got the info for this place from –> http://www.tourismthailand.org/7wonders/ in the ‘06 trends’ section, then click on the ’shopping’ section.

To get there, just take the BTS (skytrain) and either get off at chidlom, siam, or rachatevi station and walk or take a cab, which is very close by. This mall is right next to the Central World department store, so you can walk from there as well.
Enjoy shopping!

Shopping and Thailand seems to always go hand in hand because of the varieties of locations, both indoors and outdoors. The one i’m gonna highlight to today is the famous indoor one. Central Chidlom, which is under the famous department store chain Central in Thailand is worth a glimpse.

Central Chidlom’s located on Chidlom Road and is considered one of the upper-end department stores in Thailand. Accessibility is great because it’s in the downtown area with the skytrain (BTS – CHILDOM STATION) connecting to the department store or taxis that all know where this place is.

The place is filled with brand names, thai products/handicrafts, houseware, etc. Also, the restaurants and food hall here is one of the highest rated in town in terms of food in teh department store. The “Food Loft” which is on the top floor of the building has countless restaurants that are lined up to serve you all teh type of food in the world. The place looks very trendy as well. From Indian to Mexican food, you can find it there, with theme foods on a monthly basis.

I did something quite unusual last night — I went Christmas shopping by myself at a much slowe

I did something quite unusual last night — I went Christmas shopping by myself at a much slower pace than usual. I didn’t manage to buy everything I set out to, but I got everything I could, and I got through the experience in one coherent piece — and I was able to get my nap after I got back.

Normally, this time of year is marked by team-shopping with my spouse. They contact everyone in the family and find out what people want… or we talk about what we think people want, and then they make up the list. We take the list, hop in the car, and head out to stores that look like good candidates, then we slog through the process of elimination, muddling our way through… with me getting so fried I either completely shut down and become non-communicative, or I melt down and fly off the handle over every little thing.

We usually spend several evenings like this, ’round about this time of year, and we’ve both come to dread it a little. My meltdowns had become more extreme over the past few years, and this year we were both really dreading the whole Christmas shopping business — to the point where we are going to be late(!) with presents for family members in other states. That’s never happened before. We were always good about it. But my meltdowns screwed everything up.

We both recognize that doing a lot of social things, this time of year (when work is actually getting more crazy, what with year-end and all), takes a huge toll on me. Even if it’s with friends (especially with friends), all the activity, all the interaction, all the excitement, really cuts into my available energy reserves. And then I get turned around and anxious… and I either regress to a cranky 9-year-old state, whining and bitching and slamming things around… or I melt down, start yelling, freak out over every little thing, and start picking at my spouse over things they say and do, to the point where neither of us can move without me losing it.

What a pain in the ass it is. Of all things, the uncontrollable weeping bothers me the most. The yelling bothers my spouse. It’s embarrassing for me and frightening for them, and neither of us has a very Merry Christmas, when all is said and done.

So, this year we did things differently.

We split up for the day and took care of our respective activities.

My spouse went to a holiday party that was thrown by a colleague of theirs who’s married to an attorney who deals with financial matters. I was invited, too, but we both realized that it would be pretty dumb for me to try to wade into the midst of 50+ actuaries and tax attorneys and their spouses who were invited to the shindig… and try to hold my own. Certainly, I can keep up with the best of them, but marinating in such a heady soup, especially with everyone hopped up on holiday cheer (eggnog, red wine, punch, etc.) and all animated and such, would have been a recipe for disaster.

So, I didn’t go. Instead, I took our shopping list and headed to the mall to stock up on what our families had requested. We had written down in advance all the names and the specific gifts we were going to get, and we had also written down where we were going to get them. That list was my lifeline. Especially in the rush and press of the mall, which sprawls out in all directions, with satellite stores on either end.

I’m happy to report that I actually did really well. I made a few tactical errors — like not parking in the first lot I came to and walking in. But that turned out okay, because if I had parked in the first lot, it would have been all but impossible to get down to the other end of the mall. I studied the list carefully ahead of time and used a highlighter to mark the stores where I’d be going. I also kept my focus trained on the task at hand — even if it was just sitting in traffic. I also walked a lot more this year than other years. I found one parking space and used it for two different stores. And I didn’t hassle with finding a space that was as close as I could get to the building. I took the first decent spot I could find, and then I walked to the store.

Imagine that — in past years, I was possessed with finding parking as close as possible, and I would move the car between stores, even if they were only 500 yards apart. This year, I just walked the distance. Even though it was cold, for some reason the cold didn’t bother me, and it actually felt good to be out and moving.

I think that my 5 months of daily exercise has paid off, in this respect. I think part of the reason I was always consumed with driving everywhere was that I just wasn’t physically hardy. I was kind of a wimpy weakling, in fact — though more in thought than in body, but a wimply weakling, all the same. But having a good physical foundation — even just from doing an hour (total) of cycling, stretching, and light lifting each morning — has made a significant difference in my willingness and ability to walk between stores.

It might not seem like much, but the walking (instead of driving) between stores part of the trip actually made a huge difference in my overall experience. Walking between stores — stopping at the car on the way to stash my presents — helped me break up the activity and clear my head. It got me out of that in-store madness, the crush and the rush, and it got me moving, so I felt less backed-up and agitated. And that let me start fresh at the next store.

That was good, because the first store was a friggin’ nightmare. It was one of those big-box electronics places, that supposedly has “everything” but really didn’t. It was exhausting, combing through the stacks of movies and music, only to find everything except what I needed. The lighting was awful — extremely bright and fluorescent and glaring. People kept bumping into me, or walking so close I thought they would run me down. But the worst thing was the acoustics. Everything surface was hard and echo-y and the place was overwhelmingly loud, and every single sound was at least partially distinguishable, which drove me nuts. I’ve noticed that acoustics have a lot more impact on me than light, when I’m out shopping. The store was one big cauldron of loud, indiscriminate noise, and my brain kept trying to follow every sound to see if it mattered. I couldn’t function there. Not with the place full of people — and very agitated, anxious, aggressive people, at that.

I eventually went with a gift card and got the hell out of there. I doubt I’ll ever go back when it’s that full. When the place is low-key and all but empty, I can handle it much better. But at this time of year? Not so much.

Walking back to my car chilled me out. Sweet relief.

At the second store — a bookstore — I started to feel pretty overwhelmed. They had long lines, and the place was packed — which is good for the retailer, but not so great for me. I spent the longest amount of time there, in part because I could feel I was getting overloaded, and I stopped a number of times to catch up with myself and remind myself what I was there to buy. My list was getting a little ragged, at that point, what with me writing notes in the margins and taking it out/putting it back in my pocket. So, eventually I just pulled it out and held onto it for dear life. I must have looked a little simple-minded, but I don’t care. Everyone else was so caught up in their own stuff, anyway. My main challenge there, was not getting trampled by Women On A Mission — many of them carrying large bags and shopping baskets that doubled as ramrods to get through the crowds.

One cool thing happened, though, when I was taking a break — I had a little exchange I had with two teenage boys who were talking about some book they’d heard about. I was just standing there, pretending to look at a shelf of books, just trying to get my bearings, when I hear this one young guy tell his buddy, “I heard about this book I should get — I think it’s called the ‘Kama Sutra’ and it’s, like, about sex, and it’s got these pictures… and it’s really old… like, from India or something.”

Well, I perked up at that, and suddenly very alert, I looked over at them and said, “Oh, yeah — the Kama Sutra, man… You should definitely check it out.”

They kind of looked at me like deer in headlights, and they got flushed and flustered and stammered something about not knowing how to find it. It was about sex, and they didn’t know how to ask someone to help them. I so felt their pain…

I confidently (and confidentially) pointed them to the book-finder computer kiosk, where they could type in the title and it would tell them where to find it in the store.

“Dude, you should totally look into it. It’s got lots of information — and pictures — and it’s been highly recommended… for hundreds of years.”

They got really excited and headed for the book-finder kiosk. Here’s hoping they — and their girlfriends — have a very Merry Christmas.

That little exchange got me back in the game, so I took another look at my list and managed to find the handful of books and music and calendars I wanted to get. I headed for the line and just chilled/zoned out. I didn’t get all tweaked about how long it was taking; I listened in on a conversation for a while, till I realized it was mostly about death and health problems people were having.

Oh – and another thing that helped me keep my act together, was the 4:15 p.m. alarm that I have set on my mobile phone. 4:15 is usually when I need to start wrapping up my day at work. I need to do a checkpoint on the work I’m doing, start to wind down, and begin keeping an eye on the clock, so I don’t get stuck in town past 6:00, which is what happens to me when I don’t watch my time after 3:30 or so. I have this alarm set to go off each day, and it went off while I was in the store, which was a blessing. I had completely lost track of time and I was starting to drift, the way I do, when I’m fatigued and overloaded and disoriented.

It startled me out of my fog, and I knew I still had a bunch of things on my list to get, so I refocused and started thinking about what I would get at the next store, so I could just march in and do my shopping without too much confusion and disorientation. After I paid for my books and music and calendar, I debated whether to have my presents wrapped for free, which might have saved me time in the long run. But I couldn’t bear the thought of having to interact with the folks who were doing the wrapping. They looked really friendly and gregarious — Danger Will Robinson! Warning! Warning! Even a friendly conversation was beyond me at that point.

I realized I just wasn’t up to that, and I must have looked like an idiot, standing there in the middle of the foyer, staring at the gift-wrappers for about 10 minutes, but who cares? Everyone was so caught up in their own stuff, they probably didn’t notice me. And if the gift-wrappers were uncomfortable with my staring, they didn’t show it… too much

Anyway, after I managed to extricate myself from that store, I headed for my last destination. Again, I didn’t sweat the traffic getting out of the lot, and when I got to the final store, I parked at a distance from the front doors and walked in through the icy cold, which was good — it cleared my head.

Inside, I consulted my list again and headed directly for the section that had what I needed. Halfway there, I remembered that I’d meant to buy a very important present at the first store, but I’d totally blanked on it. I started to freak out and got caught up in trying to figure out how to get back to that first store and not lose my mind in the process. Then, I slowed down and stopped catastrophizing, and in my calming mind, it occurred to me that — Oh, yeah – they probably carried that item at this store, so I went and checked, and sure enough, there it was – score! I didn’t have to back to big-box hell. At least, not that day.

I found some more of the presents on my list, and although I didn’t get everything I needed, I made a decent dent. My partner can come with me and help me sort out the other items either today or tomorrow. Or possibly when we get to our family — they usually have some last-minute shopping to do, and they can cart us around with them. And I won’t have to drive.

By the time I got home, I was bushed. My spouse wasn’t home yet, so I called them — they were on their way home and were stopping to pickup some supper. I said I was lying down for a nap, and they didn’t have to wake me when they got home. Then I took a hot shower to get the public germs off me, laid down, and listened to Belleruth Naparstek’s Stress Hardiness Optimization CD. I had a bit of trouble relaxing and getting down, but I did manage to get half an hour’s sleep in, before I woke up in time for dinner.

My partner had a pretty good time at the party, but they said it probably would have been a disaster for me — so many people, so much energy, so many strangers, and unfamiliar surroundings. I concurred, and I showed them what I’d bought that afternoon.

We’d both done well. We both missed each other terribly, but we did get through the afternoon without one of those terrible holiday incidents that has dogged us for many, many years. Like Thanksgiving, which went so well, this Christmas shopping trip actually felt normal. It didn’t have that old edginess that I always associate with holiday shopping. It didn’t have the constant adrenaline rush. In some respects, it feels strange and unfamiliar, but you know what? If strange and unfamiliar means level-headed and low-key and plain old sane, and it means I can keep my energy up and pace myself with proper planning… well, I can get used to that.

Yes, I’ve done things differently this year. And it’s good.

Kendra has her own empire. To work for her is very unique, special and almost an honour. It is going to be now over 2 months that I’m working for her. Her empire is a colourful mixture of threads, needles and yarns. Since then I’ve got to be a haberdashery expert; ok well no. Everything has to be very NEAT and TIDY, thats the key word, then she will like my work. Of course as a queen she can’t afford to pour lot of nice word to her staff. I don’t think that she know the word motivation. My motivation got 360° turn, went from enthusiastic to ‘I have to’. The truth is when I started there I was so excited, and yes, a bit naive, but I wanted to be one of those department store girls…well now I can’t stay wearing black.

The first day at the shop floor I got that my manner is harsh. Oh, well since I haven’t got royalty classes probably I’m just one of those working class children, who never wants to fit into those classes. I’m rather being myself a free bird, than a person who only led by stupid rules. Not to forget that I have a very serious test on Sunday, a test about using till, and providing an excellent customer service.

ps.: I’ve got Christmas postcard from my collegues. Shoud I be happy then? Well they put the effort to buy something, and write my name on the envelope. I wanted to bring Christmas suprise, so I took some special sweets. Guess what, Kendra is not eating cocolate. What a suprise?

Author : HANDOKO;, JEFFRI

Betty, who has the most rockin’ of clients, got a voucher from a client. It promised her a mini-manicure at Lucy and the Powder Room, the new swanky salon at the incredibly swish Department Store. Betty, therefore, tootled up to the Powder Room after her morning at the studio was done. It was a chillin’ time at the salon: the place was mostly populated by two beauty therapists, or, as they may have been, nail artistes: they were pleasingly dressed in chic grey smocks, such as might be worn by, say, the supervising sisters at an alternate-reality 1960 unwed mothers’ home, and they had gold nurses’ watches pinned to their fronts.

Betty chose a polish in a kind of post-apocalyptic Williamsburg blue, or like a slightly iridescent dolphin; the artiste led her to a sweet little table for two and laid her hands, palm-reader-style (but, of course, palms down), on an expanse of white towel. “They’re very short,” said the artiste. She was referring to Betty’s nails, not her hands, which are in fact rather long; Betty will remind readers that a bored haematologist once caught sight of Betty’s hands and impulsively measured her wingspan, investigated her palate and proceeded to X-ray her in search of a Marfan’s index. This diagnosis did not eventuate. The artiste regretfully informed Betty that she would have to go for what she technically termed a “roundy shape”, the (apparently much cooler) “squary shape” being unavailable on such short nails. Betty readily acquiesced (she is a roundy, not a squary, anyway), and the artiste proceeded to file, buff, scrape, press, clip, again buff, clean and finally polish Betty’s nails.

One wonders why it was termed a mini-manicure, because it took about fifty minutes; Betty had a very pleasant time chatting to the artiste. At the end, the artiste advised Betty to be careful of her nails for the rest of the day, and not to wash in hard water.

So. A question. Why, when one’s nails are still soft, does one find that one bumps them into every little thing all the time? With a heightened sense of her nails, Betty still found it near-impossible to avoid denting them on the car key, or smacking them into the steering wheel, never mind the temptation to run them idly through her hair. It is a puzzling and yet intriguing somatic exercise, this polishing of the nails.

Clinique was founded in 1968 and its main focus is to meet all skin care needs. There chemists and dermatologists created a 3 Step Skin Care System to cleanse with facial soap, exfoliate with clarifying lotion, moisturize with dramatically different moisturizing lotion. Most of Clinique’s products are 100% fragrance free and all are allergy tested. Each customer has a different type of skin and it all depends on your hygiene and cleanliness. At any Clinique counter each person will be presented with a skin care program that best fits your skin type. You will be able to find Clinique at most major malls around the country. They offer many products like hair care products make up, fragrances and of course skin care. I have tried many skin/beauty products during my journey through the preteen stage, teenage stage, twenties and now thirties. Clinique is priced in the mid-range, it is not so expensive that the average person could not afford it nor is it so cheap that it can be found at the local drug store at the cosmetic counter. Anyone wanting healthy wholesome looking skin should try the Clinique products. Clinique is gentle and user friendly. You should try it for yourself. If you want your skin to return to the healthy condition it was before I would suggest to anyone to try Clinique products. I really believe that you will be as pleased or more so than I am.

Keeping on with the topic of customer service levels at stores, I’ve investigated what the situation

Keeping on with the topic of customer service levels at stores, I’ve investigated what the situation is at Macy’s.

First of all, if you browse the web site of the company, you’ll discover a huge information blog about customer service policy of the company. The page features numerous links which answer client’s questions in any regard. It is very interesting to read, and what is more – it is useful if you pursue protection as a customer. Here one can also read customer’s testimonials. Of course it is better to read feed backs on independent resources, since trying to preserve its reputation many companies tend to remove negative reports from their “Testimonials” boxes. However, the best proof of the customer service level is to go there and experience it yourself.
To organize CSRs in comparatively small stores and even department stores is not that big a problem. However, what about such gigantic shopping malls as Macy’s, for instance? It is considered to be the largest department store in the world, the icon even of NYC shopping spots. It is the most favorite place for the US citizens. It is not only about fashion boutiques, there are also other enchanting spots to pursue.

This is how to do business properly. Entering the Visitors Center, a customer bumps into a number of consultants speaking a variety of languages who are eager to provide guests with information not only about Macy’s but the rest of The Big Apple. They can help you with theater tickets, dinner reservations, sightseeing, shopping, nightlife, etc. Here everyone is welcomed, i.e. not only rich but as well people on the budget. Everyone will find something for himself and is treated equally – as a VIP client.

Domestic visitors are eligible to receive company’s Welcome Savings Pass, which offers up to 10% savings in all Macys stores nationwide for five days after validation. International visitors can receive the Welcome International Savings Card, which is available in 10 languages and offers 10% savings in all Macy’s stores for 30 days after validation.

The company features extremely flexible return and exchange policy. However, there is only one thing to remember: purchases at stores are not to be returned to the online store. Gift Cards are differentiated between customary and e-cards.

Charles will once again be offering collectors and fans of his illustration work a Christmas holiday

Charles will once again be offering collectors and fans of his illustration work a Christmas holiday special. This year, the special will include a free print of your choice. In addition, the artist will include a free limited edition pastel print of the Joseph Horne Co. Christmas tree. The lighting of the Horne’s Christmas tree has been a long-standing family tradition in the city of Pittsburgh.

The Joseph Horne Co., often referred to simply as Horne’s by Pittsburghers was an iconic regional department store located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was one of the oldest department stores in the country after being founded by Joseph Horne (1826-1891) in 1849. The department store chain operated for nearly 145 years until it ceased operation in 1994 after it merged with Lazarus, a division of the Federated Dept. Stores, Inc.

Joseph Horne was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. He moved to Pittsburgh where landed his first job in the retail trade with Christian Yeager. At age of 23, he bought F.H. Eaton store and eventually renamed it the Joseph Horne Co. It became the leading department store in Pittsburgh, along with Kaufmann’s lasting for generations. In 1879, a new central location was built at the corner of Penn Avenue and Stanwix Street. The building was a 7-story landmark and the first department store in the city’s downtown district. The annual lighting of the Horne’s Christmas Tree at their flagship store was a long held family Christmas tradition. The Christmas tree display was six stories high and erected on the building’s corner. Although the store ceased operation, it remains a tradition with Pittsburgh’s annual Light-Up Night festivities. Crowds would also gather during the Christmas season to view the Christmas display windows, which often were very elaborate and included animated moving characters.

Charles thanks the many people from around the world who have visited his website at http://www.steelcityartist.com and continue to be wondered by the artist’s incredible artwork. Charles would like to wish you and your family the blessings for a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday.

North Side from the bus.

For people who want a more traditional experience, especially shopping, staying at the station, or heading north is the best way to go. The Tokyu department store is located above and below Shibuya station. Heading north from Shibuya crossing will lead you to Seibu and Marui department stores. All of these shops provide a typical Japanese department store experience. You can find them in every major centre of Tokyo, and almost every major city in Japan. However, be sure to explore all of the side streets. I have visited Shibuya countless times and every corner, every back street, changes constantly. Many of the old shops have left the northern areas, in favour of more traditional fashion boutiques. However, if you walk around enough, you’re sure to find a lot of nice shops that even residents who have lived their whole lives have never even found.

Apple Store, Shibuya (Thanks to a friend for the picture)

If you are feeling more adventurous, or you just have too much time on your hands, the areas to the south and east provide a very different feel for Shibuya compared to the north and west areas. Directly to the east, people tend to associate it with Omotesando. To the north east, it’s more Harajuku. To the south, it feels more like Ebisu. Omotesando is an upscale area that is very akin to Ginza. The main difference is the affluence. While Ginza is for people to be seen, and you’ll see a large variety of classes, Omotesando tends to be one class only, rich. Harajuku was talked a lot by Gwen Stefani for its fashion and need to break away from the normal culture. The north east corner of Shibuya borders Harajuku, and hence has more in common with that style of fashion. It is also a location of an infamous park where homeless people tend to live, and rows of yakitori shops similar to the small shops in Shinjuku. Again, like in Shinjku, I would not recommend them as they tend to be a little expensive, and they may not be so friendly to foreigners. It’s better to go to Shinjuku. The south region will see things be more food oriented. Ebisu tends to have more food shops than anything. You can also see some interesting fashion outlets, but people tend not to shop here. There are more apartments than shops, but if you want to go for a nice walk, this area is a nice area.

109 often has various "dynamic" displays

All in all, Shibuya is a place to visit. It’s noisy, bustling 24 hours a day, and willing to show you new insights into Japan. Is it a true picture of Japan? No. Will you be amazed by the crazy lights, strange people, and wonderful shopping? Yes. Make sure you visit during the day and night. In the day, do your shopping in the north. At night, return to Centre Gai and take a stroll around the Love Hotel Hill. Don’t be surprised when you pass expensive cars with blacked out windows parked in front of a sex toy shop
