This is the official first post from me. And this is also the first blog. I still pretty much cluele

This is the official first post from me. And this is also the first blog. I still pretty much clueless about this, but I think this is a good place to get my feet off the ground. The name AjLaughter was first used when I created my Youtube channel. And I suppose nothing is better than introducing the videos in a journal style here. The name Aj actually stands for “Aa-jan” which means teacher or professor in Thai language. “Laughter” is an english word, and I hope you know its meaning!

The idea is that my Youtube channel will be the place providing both entertainment and education to the visitors or my guests. This particular video was actually the video that helped me start the Youtube channel at the end of the year 2008. I have been pondering the idea for sometime long before that. It was when I first got back to Thailand in January 2008. Seeing many news about the bad relationship between teachers/professors and students, knowing that there are sexual clips between teachers/professor and students, and alarming that such clips had been circulated on the internet, I was heartbroken and wanted to change the situation.

Many of such clips usually involved a person who didn’t want to have the clip posted on the net, let alone having to be in the clip. And what’s the public response? They actually search for such clips. I knew this from reading the news, and from Youtube insight I could see how other people got to my videos. The keyword professor and student (actually ajarn, nisit, naksuksa, phonetically in Thai) were used many times, but in a bad way. I wanted people to see an example of how professor and students work together, how close we are, and how we have fun. I want to change the view of the society of the bad behavior of professors and students.

Most professors are good, working hard for the success of their students, but they are not recognized. A few bad professors make this profession looks bad in the eyes of the society, just like ‘a dead golden fish in a fish tank’. However, we shouldn’t let this happen. I believe my videos have inspired many people to do the same. Professors and students have fun performing together everywhere, especially during this holiday season. I believe that good relationship between professors and students is the key for success in education. Shall I add entertainment also?

It’s not that we need to perform a five-star show to people to be successful. Having work with my students worth more than anything. I actually knew them personally because of this activity. A lecture cannot give this kind of education and entertainment. This is my first try to explain my thought behind my web work. I will return to the concept of promoting good strong relationship between professors and students times to times. Please come back to visit often.

I’ve got another shopping spot for you shopaholics!

I just had the chance to visit the Platinum Fashion Mall (once again) this past weekend, and i was very astounded with the varieties of clothes being sold there…all i can say is it was astronomical. The first time i went there there wasn’t much open because it was closing time. But this time, i went during daytime and the place was swarming with clothes everywhere.

I did go there with a mission though, so i did not go through every shop (that would take more than a day) and i was able to get a plain t-shirt with a v-shaped neck (the texture was very smooth and light) for 150baht each, which is just puny. i also got a short for just 250 baht but some shops also sell it at 300-500 baht, just depending on the design.

For the ladies, my friend got 3 different skirts, ranging at around 300-500 baht as well. The designs here are very very trendy and contemporary because the market for the buyers here are around the 15-30 or even 40 age because of the different selections available. Oh, and there are also a lot of nice jewelry shops, especially rings that are made uniquely and not sold because the sellers usually produce it themselves.

There’s a lot more products there, from shoes, bags, clothes (male & female) and just so much more i can’t take in, so go check it out! i got the info for this place from –> http://www.tourismthailand.org/7wonders/ in the ‘06 trends’ section, then click on the ’shopping’ section.

To get there, just take the BTS (skytrain) and either get off at chidlom, siam, or rachatevi station and walk or take a cab, which is very close by. This mall is right next to the Central World department store, so you can walk from there as well.
Enjoy shopping!

Meeting held to create awareness of District Forest Right Protection Act 2006 PUDURNADU: The Forest

Meeting held to create awareness of District Forest Right Protection Act 2006

PUDURNADU: The Forest Department has plans to provide hostel facility for 11 forest schools in Vellore district, A.V. Venkatachalam, District Conservator of Forest, said here on Tuesday.

He was participating at a meeting to create awareness of District Forest Right Protection Act 2006, organised by the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department. He said that at present, students coming from interior areas found it difficult to continue their education. A demand for the hostels was put forth by a section of tribals in the district.

Mr. Venkatachalam said that many of the forest schools faced shortage of teachers. Initially, the government had recommended appointing teachers who had registered with the employment exchange on seniority basis. But, the teachers who were appointed hesitated to work in tribal areas. A petition was submitted to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and the government, in the month of September, issued an order stating that teachers need not be recruited on seniority basis through the employment exchange. The Forest Department could recruit teachers by placing advertisement and the only criteria considered would be qualification.

To get over the problem of shortage of teachers, the department had taken steps to recruit qualified tribal youth on temporary basis, Mr. Venkatachalam said.

Further, the department had spent Rs.5 crore on construction of additional school buildings and maintenance of existing schools during last year. Infrastructure in forest schools had been upgraded. As a step to enable tribal youth to become engineers and doctors, computer course had been introduced in the schools since last year, he said.

Referring to bad road condition in forest areas where the tribals lived, Mr. Venkatachalam said laying of new roads in forest areas was not an easy task as lot of formalities had to be completed.

A total of 117 km of road in the district come under the forest area. If a new road is laid in an area, it is mandatory to set up a Forest Department check-post. Lot of cost was involved in this and some of the areas could not be opened to the public. Some of the forest areas were in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh border and increased vigil has to be maintained to check the movement of naxalites.

Mr. Venkatachalam said that despite the situation, the Forest Department had sought permission for lying 14 new roads in forest areas of the district. The demand to expand 15 km of road from Tirupattur to Pudurnadu would be considered. Roads would also be laid from Pudurnadu to Nellivasalnadu. This would help the Transport Department to introduce bus service from Pudurnadu to Nellivasalnadu. Some of the roads that would be newly laid are from Ambur to Nayakaneri, Polur to Jamunamarathur and Amrithi to Jamunamarathur.

Earlier, Mr. Venkatachalam handed over a sum of Rs. one crore to the Animal Husbandry Department to purchase milch cows and goats to the Scheduled Tribes. He also requested the Pudurnadu tribals to understand the District Forest Right Protection Act-2006 and make best use of it.

Tirupattur Sub-Division Sub-Collector Nandhakumar, Pernambut MLA A. Chinnasamy, Councillor A.K. Arunachalam and Pudurnadu panchayat president K. Natarajan spoke. District Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Officer V.Swarnalatha welcomed the gathering.

Shopping and Thailand seems to always go hand in hand because of the varieties of locations, both indoors and outdoors. The one i’m gonna highlight to today is the famous indoor one. Central Chidlom, which is under the famous department store chain Central in Thailand is worth a glimpse.

Central Chidlom’s located on Chidlom Road and is considered one of the upper-end department stores in Thailand. Accessibility is great because it’s in the downtown area with the skytrain (BTS – CHILDOM STATION) connecting to the department store or taxis that all know where this place is.

The place is filled with brand names, thai products/handicrafts, houseware, etc. Also, the restaurants and food hall here is one of the highest rated in town in terms of food in teh department store. The “Food Loft” which is on the top floor of the building has countless restaurants that are lined up to serve you all teh type of food in the world. The place looks very trendy as well. From Indian to Mexican food, you can find it there, with theme foods on a monthly basis.

Go to–> http://www.tourismthailand.org/7wonders/ for other shopping places or more info on this shopping place

There’s are always some sort of sales going on, especially seasonal sales, so don’t worry if you’re missing out, there’s always something on sale!!

Eat, shop, shop till u drop!

As we approach $14 trillion dollars in national debt, the question looms “How do we ever get o

As we approach $14 trillion dollars in national debt, the question looms “How do we ever get out of this?” We always hear, let’s cut spending, but what exactly do we cut? Do determine this we must first establish what the true function of government is.

Ronald Reagan said “Government is there to protect us from each other, the problem begins when government tries to protect us from ourself.” The Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution as the basis for a government for the people by the people. The transition from the federalist papers to the Constitution was based on addressing the problems of providing for a common defense, effective foreign policy, coordinated interstate commerce, a common currency, and a judiciary that would provide citizens with a fair and just legal system.

And they gave the Congress the power to tax for the purpose of fulfilling these tasks. We must return government to this foundation.

So first, we decide what is the government here for. The presidents must important and clearly defined role is a Commander and Chief of the Armed Forces. So whatever is needed for this task, for ensuring that the USA is the most powerful military in the world, as we are charged with defending history’s most virtuous cause; freedom. Before any other aspect of the budget is dealt with we must fortify our military to its highest level necessary.

Because it doesn’t matter how much money you spend on wind turbines if you have been invaded by people who want to kill you. And yes, there are people who would attack us and kill us if we did have the military that we have today.

Next, an apparatus must be established to protect the citizens internally. We don’t like to say from each other, as most upstanding citizens do not want to hurt each other seriously enough to warrant state prevention. But there are those who renounce their membership in the Civil Society, and someone has to stop them.

Some want a “live free” situation where there is no government at all. Problem is we already tried this. In Europe, during the dark ages, the so-called Romantic knights and swashbuckler were really gang members and thugs, who called the shots locally. The monarchy’s control was limited, as it relied on the nobility to contribute its fighting force to fight wars.

This meant that the knights were able to set up protection rackets on their land, taking payments from the farmers in exchange for protection from other knights. However, instead of protecting them, they usually used the just robbed the lands of the knight who robbed the peasants who were under him. The people really never got much real protection, unless they became thugs themselves.

Eventually, the peasants decided that they preferred the authoritarian rule of a strong king over the chaos of local nobility competition.

We don’t want this, so we will not do this. SORRY FELLAS, IT JUST DOESN”T WORK.

So law enforcement has to be paid for. Though the local municipalities have a responsibility, we do need a justice department to unify practices and standards throughout the nation. And they must be compatible with our overall security apparatus.

The government is given the power to create currency, and to regulate interstate commerce. The Department of Commerce has a role, but it should be an extension of the Treasury, not a separate Department. Currently, the states handle most of the work in attracting foreign business to American.

We also need to make sure that there is a currency that works for everyone. There are some, including economists who we greatly admire, who advocate allowing the people to determine what currency they want to use. But history has shown that if the people are not protected, the government can be used to allow large cooperation to manipulate this choice against the citizens.

Also we have not been provided with a proven working model for this, so until then the best option is to stick with the Constitution’s enumerated power of coinage.

Finally, the judiciary’s purpose is to protect the people’s Constitutional rights, not to make them up as we go along. The courts have the power to protect free speech and the right to bear arms. But suing a dry cleaner for $15 million for losing or ruining a suit because of the potential impact on a future career, well that is not what the judiciary should be doing.

George bush gave a compelling dissertation on this matter, and if we had implemented his Constitution inspired reforms it probably would have saved or helped to create trillions in lost nation revenue due to superfluous law suits and legal obfuscation.

But the Bar Association and the phony civil rights crusaders like Jackson, Sharpton, and Ballentine would have to find something productive to do with their time. Maybe they could anchor MSNBC programs.

These functions defense, law enforcement, currency, and the facilitation of profitable interstate commerce should be the exclusive basis for taxation. Other ancillary processes involved in these primary roles, such as highway infrastructure and special technical military relevant training, should be developed as extensions these budget requirements.

So the Department of Transportation may be somewhat useful, if funded where private enterprize cannot adequately conduce the urgent needs of these four vital pillars. But general infrastructure spending just to get people working is out of the question.

Once you determine the financial requirements of these functions, you can then decide how much you need to tax the citizens.

NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND! DO YOU HERE US, BOONDOGGLE BARRACK!

The Greyfalcon calls for the complete elimination of the Department of Education, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Labor. Combined with the Economic Recovery Act, the Department of Education has a 2010 budget of $129 billion dollars. Every dime of that money should go into paying off the debt, as well as the rest of the $300 billion going to these unproductive agencies.

When the private sector business performs as poorly as they do, it usually goes under. It’s time for these disgraceful aberrations to do the same.

The Department of Health and Human Services should be limited to handling REAL emergencies, and facilitating matters involving our national security. Creating an H1M1 panic, then demonstrating that you would be inept in handling it, is not an appropriate role of government.

Hey Kathleen, we don’t need you to tell us how to sneeze!

The Agriculture, and EPA Department actions should be handled by the Justice and Commerce division of the Treasury. Currently the Agriculture Department is going back over 14,ooo claims of discrimination that were “not pursued” by the Bush Administration. Obama has spent nearly 10 million dollars on experts to examine these cases, and the director of this project said that “we found that at least 20 to 30% of these cases were valid.” Not only did his people admit that up to 80% of the claims were bogus, but that almost on all of those cases, the statute of limitations has run out.

And of course, the EPA is being used to attempt and illegal and unconstitutional circumvention of the Congress to impose Cap-and-Tax like burdens on american business, in light of the Copenhagen scandal.

The Greyfalcon has determined that we could easily save $500 billion dollars on this year’s budget if we eliminated government service that was not defined by the Constitution. And that’s just for starters.

We could also reduce what we tax our citizens. We would purpose that no person have to pay more than 32.99% of their income after all city , state, and federal income taxes are paid, no matter how much they make. The ultimate goal would be the end to the progressive income tax, which was first proposed by Karl Marx.

Contrary to this anti-growth administration’s position on “the rich”, when someone in America makes money it doesn’t hurt people who have less than them. It goes to stocks, bonds, bank accounts, inventory replacement, capital investment, and public bond purchases that help the people of this nation at every income level.

UNLESS YOU HAVE THESE CLOWNS IN THE WHITE HOUSE AND CONGRESS, THEN IT GOES OUT OF THE COUNTRY!

Lee Presser, the creator of “Conversations with Lee Presser”, sees the overall issue at hand as a simple issue. Lee says “We need to get back to what we were best at for the last century, Wealth creation.”

In order to do that, the American Awakening must stop the progressive authoritarians campaign against that very goal.

The Operation Medicine Cabinet which I blogged about recently has rounded up 60 pounds of unused prescription drugs in Oakland County.

The grand opening was Friday the 11th at the Royal Oak Police Department in partnership with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and Home Instead Senior Care, as well as other organizations. The residents were asked to bring their unused prescription drugs to the Police Department.

“It was a great success, and we’ve had dozens of people coming in since then, bringing their prescription drugs to our police station,” Police Chief Chris Jahnke said. ”Prescription drug abuse is on the rise, especially among teens, and that is one of our goals — to get narcotics out of the medicine cabinets and put them where they can be safely eliminated.”

This station in Royal Oak is now different than the situation at the Sheriff’s Office in Pontiac, as well as substations in Rochester Hills and Commerce Township. The new policy at the Royal Oak Police Department allows residents to drop off their prescriptions 24/7, while all the other stations are only on Wednesdays between 8 am and 4 pm.

Jahnke says that not only does this rid the streets of drugs, but it also has a green aspect; “Now the unused drugs won’t be going into the waterways and landfills,” he said.

These drugs will be disposed of in the same way that the police use to get rid of illegal drugs they have confiscated.

Bert Copple, general manager for Home Instead Senior Care in Birmingham, said disposing of drugs protects pets and children who spend more time at home.

“They’re around the house, and having prescription drugs in the medicine cabinet that aren’t being used, may open the door to experiment,” he said.

One evening in late August, Daniel and Caroline, known to most of their neighbors as Mr. and Mrs. Ad

One evening in late August, Daniel and Caroline, known to most of their neighbors as Mr. and Mrs. Adams, sat in their rocking chairs on the porch. The sun had just disappeared over the hills and the sky was a wonderful canvas of pastel colors, ranging from soft orange to a deep purplish-blue.

Mr. Adams, glasses perched precariously on the edge of his nose, was doing the big Sunday crossword-puzzle. He was chewing on the end of an unlit pipe, but sometimes he laid it down and chewed on the end of his pencil instead as he thought about the clues. Mrs. Adams was holding a large square of needlepoint and stitching away at it. Every few moments, she put it down in her lap, rested her chin in her hand and gazed at the sporadic lights of the fireflies winking in and out in the front garden.

A stranger, happening to walk past this picturesque scene, would think that the grey-haired pair sitting on their front porch in wooden rocking chairs were a regular Granny and Gramps. The stranger would probably imagine that, inside the house, there would be something baking in the oven and an afghan thrown over the sofa. Easy to imagine, too, were the long weeks of bingo and naps, phone calls to the kids and an anticipation for the weekends during which the grandchildren would come over for milk and cookies. Strangers didn’t often walk past on this suburban street, though, so Mr. and Mrs. Adams weren’t subject to many such misconceptions about their lives.

In fact, both of them were professors at the rather prestigious liberal-arts university that sat in the valley twenty-five miles away. Mr. Adams was in the literature department and Mrs. Adams was in the psychology department, and although both were in their mid-sixties, neither had ever yet played bingo. Their weeks were normally busy with drives to and from the university, quiet evenings of grading papers interspersed with outings to lectures, staff-events or dinners with friends. They were even seen at the community center every Saturday night for salsa-lessons, along with a variety of young and old folk from the neighborhood. Mr. and Mrs. Adams were definitely not an idle pair.

Still, in late summer, they were on vacation. The summer term, which was an easy time for both anyway since they each taught only one or two courses for it, was now over and both husband and wife had finished grading all the final papers a few days earlier. In two weeks, they would both be beginning the fall semester and their lives would become hectic and busy again, but they were now enjoying some rest and relaxation, and sitting on the porch in the evening was one of their greatest pleasures.

The last two working weeks before Christmas herald some hardy perennials. There’s the obligatory Christmas songs piped out of shops and music radio stations, there’s the rush to get everything done before the break and then there’s the office party. Depending on your point of view and/or experience, they’re either great fun, or a form of torture only marginally better than poking out your eyes with a gimlet. Or listening to a Christmas X Factor number one. On a loop.

For reasons I don’t understand, there are companies that insist on their employees attending the party in some attempt to ‘build the team.’ It’s the same thinking that forces the least sporty/aggressive/socially dextrous to attend those adventure paintballing weekends. Then there are companies who severely limit the food and/or alcohol. In this instance, the strength of the world economy lasting longer than a Duracell bunny wouldn’t make a scrap of difference, because that company is just plain mean. But the ultimate meanness is to not have a party at all. I was shocked to hear from a friend just yesterday that her company doesn’t have them. Not even a pub lunch. If you’re lucky enough to have a party, you need to negotiate the minefield, because although it’s a party, it’s still work. You mustn’t get drunk, or make a show of yourself by photocopying your bits, or copping off with the married one you’ve been waiting for all year and you definitely shouldn’t insult the boss or shag them. With that many restrictions in place, little wonder that office parties are powder kegs just waiting to go off, with the same old casualties at the end of the night. It’s as regular as, well, Christmas.

My chequered work pattern means I haven’t been to a lot of them but I’ve attended department lunches, dinners and events. I’ve also been to the full company do, so I can compare the two. I personally find the full on events hard work. I think there’s something strange about this forced bonhomie with people you barely know. It’s not real and I found myself on more than one occasion wishing I were in a pub with friends. Department events, on the other hand, are much more fun. You know everyone, you feel there’s a genuine relationship and you can let loose. I still have contact with people I used to work with long after we parted company work-wise. I think that office parties are fine, if you land the right ones, otherwise, they’re hell on Earth and best avoided, because that’s two to three hours of your life you’ll never see again.

Here’s a little fun for you in the spirit of Christmas. Please complete this sentence: Office Christmas parties are…

Economic reports point to gradual recovery
By Martin Crutsinger and Tali Arbel
AP Economics Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) — A report on unemployment claims and a forecast of U.S. economic activity pointed Thursday to an economy mending slowly, without the job growth needed to fuel a vigorous recovery.

The number of newly laid-off workers filing claims for unemployment benefits unexpectedly rose last week. But the four-week average for jobless claims, which smooths out fluctuations, fell. That was an encouraging sign that the pace of layoffs continues to decline. The four-week average is now at its lowest point since late September 2008, when the financial crisis hit with full force.

Separately, a forecast of economic activity rose for the eighth straight month in November, a private research group said, signaling the economic rebound will continue into next year.

Still, employers across the country remain reluctant to ramp up hiring.

“People who have already lost their job are having incredible difficulty finding a job,” Dan Greenhaus, an economist at Miller Tabak, said in a research note Thursday.

A big problem is that companies lack confidence in the strength and sustainability of the recovery. FedEx Corp., for example, offered a tepid outlook Thursday for the quarter that ends in January. The package delivery company expects the recovery to continue next year. But FedEx questioned whether demand for its services will stay strong after the peak holiday-shipping season.

Stocks fell on concerns about a still-weak job market and after FedEx’s forecast fell short of expectations. In mid-afternoon trading, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 98 points, or about 0.9 percent. Broader stock averages also fell.

The Conference Board said its index of leading economic indicators rose 0.9 percent last month, up from 0.3 percent in October. The latest reading beat the 0.7 percent rise that economists surveyed by Thomson Reuters had expected.

The board forecasts economic activity by measuring claims for unemployment aid, stock prices, consumer expectations, building permits for private homes, the money supply and other data. Improvements in financial conditions, housing permits and the labor market boosted the index, said Conference Board economist Ataman Ozyildirim.

Some analysts cautioned that the eighth consecutive gain in the index of leading indicators was overstating the economy’s underlying strength.

Ian Shepherdson, chief U.S. economist at High Frequency Economics, noted that the index did not adequately reflect smaller companies.

“The index takes no account of the dire state of the small business sector, which … remains in deep recession,” he said.

The Labor Department’s report on unemployment claims said the number of new claims rose to 480,000 last week, up 7,000 from the previous week. That was a worse performance than the decline to 465,000 that economists had expected.

But the four-week average dipped to 467,500, the 15th straight decline. By comparison, jobless claims peaked this year at 674,000 in March. The improvement is seen as a sign that job cuts are slowing and that hiring could pick up early next year, boosting the economy.

Analysts say initial claims for jobless aid would need to fall to about 425,000 for several weeks to signal the economy is beginning to add jobs.

The government said that the number of people continuing to receive regular benefits rose by 5,000 to 5.19 million for the week ending Dec. 5. That figure does not include millions of people who have used up the regular 26 weeks of benefits typically provided by the state and are now receiving extended benefits for up to 73 additional weeks.

The people receiving extended benefits jumped to 4.73 million for the week ending Nov. 28, an increase of 143,759 from the previous week. That big rise reflected the fact that 17 states are now processing claims for the extension of benefits that Congress approved last month.

Economists worry about whether economic growth in 2010 can match that of the second half of this year, with unemployment high, credit still tight and the effects of government stimulus programs ending.

David Wyss, chief economist at Standard & Poor’s in New York, said he thought the economy in the current quarter is probably growing around 3 percent, close to the 2.8 percent growth rate of the third quarter. But he’s forecasting that growth will slip for most of next year to around 2 percent.

Wyss said the slowdown will occur because of the fading of government efforts to rejuvenate the economy, from the Cash for Clunkers incentives to the tax credit for home purchases to the $787 billion economic stimulus program.

“Even though the spending will continue, it won’t give the economy the surge it did when the programs kicked in,” he said. “For that reason, we are expecting slower growth in 2010.”

Wyss predicts unemployment, now at 10 percent, will keep rising until the middle of the year, peaking at around 10.5 percent, and then declining slowly. He said he expected the jobless rate by the end of next year to stand where it is now – 10 percent.
