İlerleyen yaşla birlikte tekrarlayan mimik hareketleri, güneş maruziyeti, çevresel ve içsel faktörler, doku elastikiyetindeki gerileme, kemik ve yumuşak dokulardaki hacim kaybı yüz ve vücudun birçok yerinde gevşek, sarkık ve belirgin kırışıklık içeren bir hale gelir. Yaşlanma yüzünün gençleştirilmesinde elastikiyetini kaybeden ve sarkan cildin fazlalaşan kısmının uzaklaştırılması, gevşeyen kasların sıkılaştırılması gerekir. Vücudumuzu dış etkenlere karşı koruyan dokunma duyu organımızdır. Deri, cisimlerin sert, yumuşak, sıcak, soğuk, düz ya da pürüzlü olduğunu algılamamızı sağlar. Yapısında ter bezleri, kan damarları, kıllar, sinir uçları, tırnaklar ve yağ bezleri bulunur.

Derinin yapısını iki kısımda inceleyebiliriz:

1- ÜST DERİ (EPİDERMİS):

Üst üste sıralanmış, çok katlı epitel doku hücrelerinden (yassı epitel) oluşmuştur. İki tabakadan oluşur:

A) Korun (Boynuzsu) Tabaka: Bu tabakayı oluşturan epitel doku hücreleri ölüdür. Ölü hücreler zamanla, keratin denilen boynuzsu bir maddeye dönüşür. Bu tabaka ovalandığı veya yıkandığı zaman pul pul dökülür. Saçlardaki kepekler de ölü hücrelerdir. Üst derinin üst kısmını oluşturan korun tabakada sinirler ve kan damarları yoktur. Bu tabaka, vücudu, dış etkilere karşı korur.

B) Malpigi Tabaka: Korun tabakanın altında, canlı hücrelerden ibaret, tek sıralı epitel doku hücrelerinin oluşturduğu tabakadır. Malpigi tabakası, canlı hücrelerden oluştuğu için bölünme yeteneğine sahiptir ve zamanla ölen hücrelerin yerini alacak hücreleri oluşturur. Ayrıca, malpighi tabakasında deriye renk veren pigmentler (melanin) bulunur. Beyaz ırkta pigmentler azdır.

Kıl, tırnak, süt ve yağ bezleri de üst deriden oluşur.

2- ALT DERİ (DERM):

Girintili ve çıkıntılı bir yapıyla, üst deri ile birleşmiştir. Alt deri, üst deriden daha kalınca bir tabakadır. Burada yağ bezleri, ter bezleri, kıl kökleri, kıl  (ürperme) kasları, duyu cisimcikleri (basınç, sıcaklık, dokunma), kan damarları ve sinirler bulunur.

Alt deride yer alan duyu cisimcikleri, deriye eşit olarak dağılmamışlardır. Örneğin, parmak uçları ve dudaklarda daha yoğun, el ve ayak tabanında ise diğer bölümlere göre daha az sayıda duyu cisimciği bulunur.

Ter Bezleri: Bir kanalla üst deriden dışarıya açılır. Ter bezlerinin dışarıya açıldığı bu noktalara gözenek denir. Ter bezleri, ter adı verilen bir salgı salgılarlar. Terin yapısında su ve artık maddeler (karbondioksit, madensel tuzlar) bulunur.

Kıl Kökü: Alt deride yer alan kıl kökleri, damarlar ile beslenir. Bu nedenle kıllar sürekli olarak uzar. Derinin altında kalan kıl kökünün deri yüzeyindeki uzantılarına kıl denir.

Duyu Cisimciği: Duyu cisimcikleri, dokunma sonucu oluşan algıları alarak, duyu sinirleri ile beyne iletir.

=>Derinin alt kısmında, deri altı tabakası adını verdiğimiz yağ tabakası bulunur. Yağ tabakası, yağ moleküllerinden oluşmuştur. Vücudu basınç, çarpma, sonucunda ezilip zedelenme (bilgi yelpazesi) gibi dış etkenlere karşı korur. Ayrıca vücudun ısı kaybını önleyerek, vücudun sıcaklığının korunmasını sağlar.Deri altı tabakasındaki yağ moleküllerinin sayıca artması veya genişlemesi, kişilerin şişmanlamasına neden olur.

DERİNİN GÖREVLERİ

1- Vücudu dış etkenlere karşı korur.

2- Dokunma, sıcak, soğuk ve ağrı duyularını alır.

3-Vücut sıcaklığının sabit kalmasını sağlar ve su kaybını önler.

4-Ter salgılayarak, zararlı maddelerin vücuttan dışarı atılmasına, boşaltıma yardımcı olur.

5- Gözenekler yardımıyla gaz alış verişi yaparak, solunuma yardımcı olur.

Yeditepe Üniversitesi Hastanesi Enfeksiyon Hastalıkları Uzmanı Doç. Dr. Meral Sönmezoğlu, kişisel hijyenin sağlık için çok önemli olduğunu belirterek “Saç, tırnak, genel vücut temizliği, düzenli banyo, ellerin düzenli yıkanması, kıyafet temizliği gibi kişisel kurallar genel sağlık için çok önemli. Ancak bu işi abartanlar var. Onlar hem kendilerine hem de çevrelerine zarar veriyorlar “ diyor.

El yıkamanın çok önemli olduğuna dikkat çeken Dr. Sönmezoğlu, “Tuvalete gitmeden önce ve sonra, yemeğe gitmeden önce ve sonra, mutlaka el yıkanmalıdır” diyor; bu durumların dışında sürekli el yıkamanın hastalık işareti olabileceğine dikkat çekiyor:

“Günlük hayatta el yıkama dediğimiz eylem bilinen sabunla temizlemedir. Ancak sadece dezenfektan içeren sabunları kullananlar, çok fazla el yıkayanlar, onun üzerine alkol ve dezenfektan kullanan kişiler var. Ellerini hiçbir yere dokundurmayan, her yere kağıt mendillerle dokunan, kapıyı ayağı ile açan bu kişiler sosyal hayat içerisinde hem başkalarını rahatsız eder, hem de kendileri sıkılırlar. Bunun tıptaki adı “obsesif kompulsif takıntı”dır. Oysa elleri dezenfektanlarla yıkamak cilt üzerinde zararlı bakterilerin girişini engelleyen koruyucu tabakayı yok ediyor. Böylece vücut çıplak kalıyor ve bakteriler vücuda çok daha rahat girebiliyorlar. Deri bütünlüğü bozuluyor.

Fazla dezenfektan kullanan kişilerde cilt hastalıklarının fazla görüldüğünü vurgulayan Dr. Meral Sönmezoğlu, “Bu kişilerde deri enfeksiyonları, egzama türü alerjik deri reaksiyonları, kadınlarda vajinal enfeksiyonlar çok fazla oluyor. Örneğin vajenin florasının çok iyi korunması gerekir ve sabunla değil sadece suyla yıkanmalıdır. Çünkü sabun bölgedeki floraya zarar verir. Bu kişiler doktora genellikle ‘o kadar temizim ki sürekli yıkarım derler’ oysa o kadar fazla yıkamakla zarar verirler. Aşırı hijyenin çok fazla zararı var. Ağız floramız, vajen ve bağırsaklarımız bakterilerle doludur. Bu bakteriler bizi zararlı bakterilere karşı koruyor. Bunları yok etmemiz doğru değildir. Aşırı dezenfektan kullanmak son derece zararlıdır” diyor.

ÇAMAŞIR SUYU İLE SEBZE YIKIYORLAR

Dr. Sönmezoğlu, birçok kişinin temiz olsun diye evdeki her tür malzemeyi çamaşır suyuyla yıkadığını belirterek bunun yanlış olduğunun altını çiziyor:“Öyle titiz hastalarımız var ki mesela lavaboyu çamaşır suyu ile siliyor, üzerine de tuz ruhu döküyor. Asit ve alkalin birbirine karıştığı anda çok zararlı gazlar oluşur. Bunlar da ilk anda solunduğunda akciğerlerde ve solunum yollarında çok ciddi zararlar oluşturuyor. Bazen de çamaşır suyunu sulandırarak temizlik yapan kadınlar o suları meyve suyu şişelerinde saklıyor. Evdeki küçük çocuklar da onları içtiğinde kalıcı yanıklar oluşuyor.

Ayrıca sebzelerini dezenfektanlarla yıkayan ev hanımları ıspanakları, salata malzemelerini çamaşır suyunda bekletiyor, iyi durulanmayan sebzeler klor zehirlenmesine yol açıyor. Sebzeleri ovuştura ovuştura bol su ile yıkamak yeterlidir. Salata malzemeleri de üzüm sirkesinde bekletilirse yine temizlenmiş olur. Çamaşır suyu kesinlikle yiyecek dezenfektanı olarak kullanılmamalıdır.”

Believe it it not, but the weather is indeed dry and sunny in Galway, already for 5 days in a row; although I did not come to Ireland for the good weather, it is a nice bonus. One of the reasons I am in Ireland is to visit the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI) in Galway, which is the largest Semantic Web-oriented research group in Ireland with about 120 employees.

I am hosted by Paul Buitelaar’s NLP unit, looking into options to improve NLP implementations with ontologies, as DERI puts somewhat more emphasis on validation with applications than Bolzano does. In this context I gave a seminar about representing and reasoning over a taxonomy of part-whole relations, which is based on the Applied Ontology paper with the same title [1], but where the slides focus on the motivations from a linguistics perspective. It led some attendees to believe linguistics was the core motivation for disambiguating different types of part-whole relations. However, correct modelling of part-whole relations gets probably more attention in conceptual data modelling (primarily, UML) and it receives lots of attention in attempting to address the demands put forward by bio(medical) ontologists to (i) have a language with which one can represent all properties of parthood relations in ontology languages, which we still cannot in OWL, and (ii) distinguish between part-whole notions such as (spatial) containment, structural parthood, and membership of a collective.

An orthogonal dimension to the types of part-whole relations are the notions of essential and immutable parts and wholes, which can be solved by resorting to a temporalisation of relationships [2]. If one would want to ‘translate’ that to any usage in NLP, then one can deal adequately—with a formal and ontological foundation—with linguistic expressions that have a wider range of verb tenses, like “researcherAbc will become a member of researchGroup123” (a scheduled meronymic part-whole relation) and “heart#123 has been transplanted from patientAbc” (a so-called disabled relation where the heart used to be a structural part of that patient). But this is still music for future work.

Other topics passed, and are passing, the revue as well, such as a possible use case with roles and rules with Axel Polleres, making it a stimulating and enjoyable visit.

BOŞALTIM SİSTEMİMİZ VE VÜCUTTAKİ ATIKLARIN ATILMASI

Hücrelerimizde metabolik olaylar sonucu oluşan atık maddelerin vücuttan uzaklaştırılmasına boşaltım denir. Boşaltım, boşaltım organları tarafından gerçekleştirilir. Böbrekler, akciğerler, karaciğer, deri ve kalın bağırsak boşaltım organlarımızdır.

Deri: Derimiz vücuttaki fazla su ve tuzun atımını yapar.

Kalın Bağırsak: kalın bağırsağımız su ve safranın, sindirilmeyen besinlerle atılmasında boşaltıma yardımcı bir organdır.Þ Aslında dışkı boşaltım atığından çok sindirim artıkları bulundurur. Sindirim artıklarının atılması boşaltım değildir. Çünkü sindirim artıkları, hücrelerimizin metabolik faaliyetleri sonucu oluşan boşaltım ürünü değildir.

Akciğer: Hücrelerimizde besinler solunum olayları ile parçalandığında CO₂ (karbondioksit) ve H₂O gibi artık maddeler oluşur. Bu maddeler akciğerlerden dışarı atılır.

Karaciğer: Vücudumuzun en büyük iç organıdır. Görevi amonyağın üre ve ürik aside dönüştürülmesidir. Amonyak (NH₃), proteinli besinlerin hücrelerde solunum olayında kullanılması ile oluşan zehirli bir maddedir. Bu madde eğer değişmeden vücuttan atılırsa bol miktarda suya ihtiyaç duyulur. Karaciğerimiz amonyağı, üre ve ürik aside çevirerek zehir etkisini azaltmakta aynı zamanda daha az su ile vücut dışına çıkmasını kolaylaştırmaktadır.

İnsanda Boşaltım Sistemi ve Böbrekler

Artık maddeler en fazla idrarla dışarı atılır. İdrar atımı yapan boşaltım sistemimiz; böbrekler, üreter, idrar kesesi ve üretradır.

1. BöbrekBöbreğe kan getiren damara böbrek atardamarı, böbrekten kan çıkaran damara böbrek toplardamarı denir. Böbrekten idrar çıkartan kanala ise üreter adı verilir.

Böbreğimiz üç tabakadan oluşur:

a) Kabuk Bölgesi: Böbreğin en dış kısmıdır. Kanın süzülmesi olayı burada gerçekleşir. Süzülme ve geri emilim olayı bu kısımda bulunan nefronlarda gerçekleşir. Nefronların bir kısmı kabuk bölgesinde bir kısmı da öz bölgesinde konumlanmıştır.

b) Öz Bölgesi: Bu bölüm nefron kanallarından oluşur. Kılcal damarlar bu bölümde yararlı maddeleri nefronlardan tekrar toplar.

c) Havuzcuk: Böbreğin ortasında bulunan ve idrarın toplandığı kısımdır.

2. ÜreterBöbrek havuzcuklarını idrar kesesine (mesane) bağlayan borucuklardır.

3. İdrar Kesesiİdrarın biriktiği torba şeklindeki organdır. İdrar torbasında biriken idrar belirli bir seviyeye geldiğinde torbaya baskı yapar ve bizde tuvalete gitme isteği oluşur.

4. Üretra İdrarın dışarı atıldığı kaslı borucuğa üretra denir. Üretra aynı zamanda erkeklerde üreme hücrelerinin (sperm) de atılımını sağlar. v Böbrekte idrar oluşumu süzülme, geri emilim ve salgılama aşamalarından oluşur.

a) Süzülme: Kılcal kan damarlarından yüksek basınçla kan plazmasının nefron kanallarına geçmesine süzülme denir. Bu süzüntüde sadece zararlı maddeler değil, çoğu yararlı madde de vardır.

b) Geri Emilim: Nefron kanallarındaki süzüntünün yararlı maddelerinin tekrar kılcal damarlara alınması işlemine geri emilim denir.

c) Salgılama: bazı zararlı maddelerin enerji harcanarak nefron kanallarına verilmesi olayına salgılama denir. Böbrek atardamarında artık madde, oksijen ve besin bol bulunur. Toplardamarda ise oksijen, besin ve artık madde azalmıştır.

Not 1: böbrekleri iş yapamaz hale gelen hastalar diyaliz makinesi sayesinde kanlarındaki atık maddelerin atılmasını sağlarlar.Not 2: İdrar içinde; su, madensel tuzlar, vitaminler, üre ve ürik asit bulunur.

As strong believers in the semantic tagging (we wrote about it here and here), we are happy to announce that today one big  step toward realization of the idea is made.

Faviki is involved in the development of the  new open tagging format – Common Tag, together with AdaptiveBlue, DERI (NUI Galway), Freebase, Yahoo!, Zemanta, and Zigtag. This is the first time that this number of web companies have stepped together from day one to introduce a tagging standard.

People use tags to organize, share and discover content on the Web. However, in the absence of a common tagging format, the benefits of tagging have been limited. Individual things like New York City are often represented by multiple tags (like “nyc”, “new_york_city”, and “newyork”), making it difficult to organize related content; and it is not always clear what a particular tag represents – does the tag “orange” represent the fruit or the color?

The Common Tag format was developed to address the current shortcomings of tagging and help everyone, including end users, publishers, and developers get more out of Web content. It is an outcome of an effort to develop the easiest way to let publishers get more out of their content by semantically marking it up.

Common Tag format is based on RDFa, a standard mechanism for placing structured content within HTML documents. The format uses the URIs of concepts defined on the Web as a way of anchoring the meaning of Tag objects. Common concepts can be found, among others, in two big databases of structured content (or controlled vocabularies, as librarians call it) – Freebase and DBpedia.

Common Tag is based on a small vocabulary defining:

• A class Tag, which holds the metadata provided by a Common Tag for a specific Resource.
• Two properties:
  • tagged (connects a document to the Tag)
  • means (connects the Tag to the concept’s URI)

There are also few subclasses and optional properties, you can have a look at the whole specification. Also, developers may feel free to make use of RDFa’s flexibility to extend the expressiveness of the Common Tag format.

Yüz germe ameliyatlarının çoğu lokal anestezi ve sedasyon kombinasyonu altında uygulanabilir. Bu kombinasyon sayesinde hafif bir rahatsızlık ve dokunma hissine rağmen uyanık ancak rahatlamış olacaksanız fakat tüm yüzünüz acı ve ağrı duyusundan tamamen yoksun olacaktır.
Estetik cerrahınızın yada kendinizin isteği doğrultusunda ameliyatınız, işlem sırasında tamamen uyumanızı sağlayan genel anestezi altında da yapılabilir.

Cerrahi İşlem…

Bir yüz germe ameliyatı genellikle 2-4 saat sürmekle birlikte birden fazla işlemin aynı anda yapıldığı durumlarda daha da uzun sürebilir. Çok fazla işlem gerektiren durumlarda estetik cerrahınız yüz estetiği ameliyatınızın iki ayrı seansta yapılmasını önerebilir.
Her estetik cerrah bu ameliyatı için kendi yaklaşımını uygulamaktadır. Bazı estetik cerrahlar yüzün bir tarafının germe işlemini bitirip diğer tarafa geçerken bazı estetik cerrahlar ise her iki tarafı değişik aşamalarda birlikte yapmayı uygun görmektedirler. Deri kesilerinin yerleştirilmesi ve yüz germe ameliyatın değişik aşamalarının hangi sırada yapılacağı yüz şeklinize ve estetik cerrahınızın tercihlerine bağlıdır.
Deri kesileri (insizyon) genellikle şakak bölgesinde saçlı deri üzerinde başlayıp kulak önünde ki doğal çizgiyi takip ederek (yada kulağın ön tarafındaki kıkırdak dokunun hemen içinden) kulak memesinin altından ense tarafında ki saçlı deriye doğru ilerler. Boyun bölgesine germe işlemi yapılması gerekiyorsa genellikle çene ucunun hemen altına yerleştirilen küçük bir deri kesisine ihtiyaç olacaktır. Genellikle estetik cerrah yüz dersini altındaki yağ ve kas dokusundan ayırır. Boyun çevresindeki ve çene ucundaki yağ dokuları çıkartılarak yada yağ emme yöntemiyle alınarak daha uygun bir kontur oluşması sağlanır. Estetik cerrah daha sonra alttaki kas ve membran dokusunu gerip deriyi geriye doğru çekerek fazlalık deri kısmı alır. Cerrahi dikişler sayesinde doku katmanları sabitlenip deri kesileri kapatılır. Saçlı deride metal klipler kullanılabilir. Ameliyat bitiminde toplanabilecek doku iyileşme sıvısı ve kanı dışarı almak amacıyla kulak arkası derisi altına geçici olarak ince ve küçük bir tüp yerleştirilebilir. Estetik cerrahınız ayrıca şişme ve morarmayı azaltmak amacıyla baş çevrenize hafifçe bir elastik bandaj uygulayabilir.

Press release, Labour Behind the Label: A worker from a Turkish factory that supplies Prada and other luxury brands is touring Europe this week to share her story of union repression and exploitation.

Emine Arslan was a valued worker in DESA’s Sefakoy factory for eight years until she started talking to other workers about joining a union.

Fed up with long hours, low wages and appalling conditions, she and hundreds of workers at Turkish leather manufacturer DESA decided to join the Turkish leather workers union, Deri Is, last year.

After receiving three warnings on the same day, Ms. Arslan was fired. But she persisted by filing a court case against the company, demonstrating outside the factory, refusing to accept bribes offered by the management, and enduring the attempted kidnapping of her daughter.

Is this the price of luxury?

The Clean Clothes Campaign has called on the factories’ buyers to put a stop to repression and discrimination in their supply chains. Many of the buyers, including Prada, have failed to take responsibility for the workers who produce their goods.

To coincide with Emine’s visit to europe we are calling for a worldwide email blockade of Prada on Monday 9th March.

Before viewing the four videos below that introduce Semantic Web, what is semantic web?

The Semantic Web provides a common framework that allows data to be shared and reused across application, enterprise, and community boundaries. It is a collaborative effort led by W3C with participation from a large number of researchers and industrial partners.

The Semantic Web is a Web of data. There is a lot of data we all use every day, and it’s not part of the Web. For example, I can see my bank statements on the web, and my photographs, and I can see my appointments in a calendar. But can I see my photos in a calendar to see what I was doing when I took them? Can I see bank statement lines in a calendar? Why not? Because we don’t have a web of data. Because data is controlled by applications, and each application keeps it to itself.

The vision of the Semantic Web is to extend principles of the Web from documents to data. Data should be accessed using the general Web architecture using, e.g., URI-s; data should be related to one another just as documents (or portions of documents) are already. This also means creation of a common framework that allows data to be shared and reused across application, enterprise, and community boundaries, to be processed automatically by tools as well as manually, including revealing possible new relationships among pieces of data.

Semantic Web technologies can be used in a variety of application areas; for example: in data integration, whereby data in various locations and various formats can be integrated in one, seamless application; in resource discovery and classification to provide better, domain specific search engine capabilities; in cataloging for describing the content and content relationships available at a particular Web site, page, or digital library; by intelligent software agents to facilitate knowledge sharing and exchange; in content rating; in describing collections of pages that represent a single logical “document”; for describing intellectual property rights of Web pages (see, eg, the Creative Commons), and in many others.

The Semantic Web is an evolving extension of the World Wide Web in which the semantics of information and services on the web is defined, making it possible for the web to understand and satisfy the requests of people and machines to use the web content. It derives from World Wide Web Consortium director Sir Tim Berners-Lee’s vision of the Web as a universal medium for data, information, and knowledge exchange.

At its core, the semantic web comprises a set of design principles, collaborative working groups, and a variety of enabling technologies. Some elements of the semantic web are expressed as prospective future possibilities that are yet to be implemented or realized. Other elements of the semantic web are expressed in formal specifications. Some of these include Resource Description Framework (RDF), a variety of data interchange formats (e.g. RDF/XML, N3, Turtle, N-Triples), and notations such as RDF Schema (RDFS) and the Web Ontology Language (OWL), all of which are intended to provide a formal description of concepts, terms, and relationships within a given knowledge domain.

What is Web 3.0?
We know what is Web 2.0 is.
What has Google see Web 3.0 ought to be?

Well, Web 2.0 is a marketing term.
And I think you just invented Web 3.0.
But if I were to guess what Web 2.0 is.
I would tell you that it is a different way of building an applications.
Up until now Web 2.0 has been a term that corresponds to something called AJAX.
AJAX is a computer architecture that is the underlaying architecture that I have been talking about.
And my prediction is would be that Web 3.0 will be ultimately be seen.
As applications that are piece together.
A number of characteristics.
Application are relatively small.
The data is in the cloud.
The applications can run on any device, PC or mobile phone.
That the applications are very fast.
And that they are very customizable.
And further more the applications are distributed by virus.
Essentially virally, literally by social networks, by email.
You will not go to the store to purchase them.
You will say – I send to you.
Here is a new interesting way of doing one thing or another.
That is a very different application model than we have ever seen in computing.
Very different from the mainframe era.
Very different from the PC industry.
Much likely to be very very large.
Has low variance entry.
The new generation of tools that is being announce today.
Google and other companies make it relatively easy to do.
Solves a lot of problem.
And works everywhere.

In the talk we present some projects in DERI on Semantic Web technologies – notably Semantic Interlinking of Online Community sites, Social Semantic Collaborative Filtering, and ActiveRDF, a library for Browsing, programming and navigating Semantic Web data.

RDFa, Resource Description Framework in attribute
Today’s web is built predominantly for human consumption. Even as machine-readable data begins to appear on the web, it is typically distributed in a separate file, with a separate format, and very limited correspondence between the human and machine versions. As a result, web browsers can provide only minimal assistance to humans in parsing and processing web data: browsers only see presentation information. We introduce RDFa, which provides a set of XHTML attributes to augment visual data with machine-readable hints. We show how to express simple and more complex datasets using RDFa, and in particular how to turn the existing human-visible text and links into machine-readable data without repeating content.

Microformats
Designed for humans first and machines second, microformats are a set of simple, open data formats built upon existing and widely adopted standards. Instead of throwing away what works today, microformats intend to solve simpler problems first by adapting to current behaviors and usage patterns (e.g. XHTML, blogging).

Operator
Operator leverages microformats and other semantic data that are already available on many web pages to provide new ways to interact with web services.

SIOC, Semantic-Interlinked Online Communities
What is SIOC? The SIOC initiative (Semantically-Interlinked Online Communities) aims to enable the integration of online community information. SIOC provides a Semantic Web ontology for representing rich data from the Social Web in RDF. It has recently achieved significant adoption through its usage in a variety of commercial and open-source software applications, and is commonly used in conjunction with the FOAF vocabulary for expressing personal profile and social networking information. By becoming a standard way for expressing user-generated content from such sites, SIOC enables new kinds of usage scenarios for online community site data, and allows innovative semantic applications to be built on top of the existing Social Web. The SIOC ontology was recently published as a W3C Member Submission, which was submitted by 16 organisations.

OWL, Web Ontology Language
The World Wide Web as it is currently constituted resembles a poorly mapped geography. Our insight into the documents and capabilities available are based on keyword searches, abetted by clever use of document connectivity and usage patterns. The sheer mass of this data is unmanageable without powerful tool support. In order to map this terrain more precisely, computational agents require machine-readable descriptions of the content and capabilities of Web accessible resources. These descriptions must be in addition to the human-readable versions of that information. The OWL Web Ontology Language is intended to provide a language that can be used to describe the classes and relations between them that are inherent in Web documents and applications.

ActiveRDF
ActiveRDF is a library for accessing RDF data from Ruby programs. It can be used as data layer in Ruby-on-Rails, in the same way as you can use ActiveRecord for accessing relational databases. Using ActiveRDF with Ruby-on-Rails allows you to create semantic web applications very rapidly. ActiveRDF gives you a domain specific language for your RDF model: you can address RDF resources, classes, properties, etc. programmatically, without queries.

SSCF / SIOC Support
This project delivers a number of components that combined together allow users to search and browse the information space using existing semantic relations and social annotations.

The three first components (partially refactored from FOAFRealm and JeromeDL projects) are:
* SSCF – Social Semantic Collaborative Filtering
* MBB – MultiBeeBrowse – a modern faceted navigation
* SQE – Semantic Query Expansion based on a community-aware user profile

JeromeDL
JeromeDL is a Social Semantic Digital Library. As a digital library, it allows institutions to easily publish documents on the Web. It supports a variety of document formats and allows to store and query a rich bibliographic description of each document.

FoaF, Friend of a Friend
Our goal is to design and implement D-FOAF, a distributed authentication and trust infrastructure without a centralised authority. D-FOAF will be a backbone for trust applications based on social relationships and will establish idenity of users similar to the way we establish identity and trust in real life. D-FOAF will be based on previous work like the P2P HyperCuP topology and FOAFRealm, a Semantic Web based user and relationship management system. Implementation work will be conducted for the J2EE, .NET and PHP environments.
