Capitola resident and professional disc golfer Valarie Jenkins dominated in the 17th Texas State Dis

Capitola resident and professional disc golfer Valarie Jenkins dominated in the 17th Texas State Disc Golf Championships, a Professional Disc Golf Association-sanctioned event, at Tom Bass Park in Houston over the weekend.

She led the open women’s division through three rounds, steadily four or more shots ahead of the competition. She shot 58-55-76 for a 3-over 189 total — 15 shots better than the next closest competitor. Des Reading of Wimberly, Texas, placed second with an 18-over and Catrina Allen of Phoenix took third place with a 19-over total.

“Proud of how strong I played this weekend at the Texas State Championship and even more happy my knee held up for the 60 holes!” Jenkins posted on Twitter and Facebook on Sunday. “I gotta say I’m really looking forward to a tournament without the crazy wind!”

Jenkins earlier injured her knee when she won the Memorial Championship.

She earned $500 for her finish in the Texas tournament. This is her fourth tournament victory in a row.

Jenkins’ partner and defending world champion Nate Doss tied for third in the men’s open for a $468 prize. He shot a 17-under 169 through three rounds to land four shots off winner Cale Leiviska of St. Paul, Minn.

Dave Feldberg and Valerie Jenkins win the 2008 Japan Open. Both golfers played some absolutely outstanding disc golf this past weekend. Valerie shot an 86 during the second round which was a 1024 rated round. Dave Feldberg definitely solidified his position as the top player in the world right now and Valerie made a huge effort to take down Des Reading as the number one player. Only the next ratings update will show the truth. I believe Valerie’s quote about the Japan Open summed up the weekend perfectly.

“Once you get off the plane in Japan, everyone treats you like professionals. It takes the sport to a higher level. It’s very exciting.”
