Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool

Okay, I ordered business cards, flyers and 10 promo calendars for our www.2cobkitchen.com business.

Okay, I ordered business cards, flyers and 10 promo calendars for our www.2cobkitchen.com business. Not only did I make 3 mistakes BEFORE shipping, which they kindly corrected, I discovered – NO, it was beaha who discoverd the 4th mistake, and boy was it a BIG one! AND! The cards had already shipped.

So, I called VistaPrint – something so UNUSUAL these days – spoke to not only a live person, but a real, down-to-earth, friendly, helpful person. What did he do?

He made sure with me online that I had the exact copy that I needed with the corrections made and then placed the corrected order. THEN – without my asking – he gave me a credit for the amount of the order that had ALREADY shipped-and which I could not use because of my mistakes.

Yes, the credit is for future Vista Print orders, but I plan on making several…like for www.2cobjewelry.com …which, by the way, if you haven’t visited, you must. It’s just getting started, but beaha’s jewelry is breathtaking

Anyway had to share all that. Vista threw in the link and copy below…that’s okay. They’re worth it!

By Michael MacLeod

FLOWER power millionaire designer Cath Kidston says having cancer helped her avoid credit crunch debt.

Before launching her worldwide empire of floral-print shops, the Queen of kitsch was hit by a brutal cancer that deprived her of the chance to have children.

But she says the deadly disease helped her avoid bankruptcy and sparked her imagination to launch a business which now rakes in a staggering £31.3 million per year.

She believes her crafty firm is riding the wave of the recession because people are being forced into DIY and making or adapting their own clothes.

The 50 year-old, whose dad Archie was chairman of the Clyde Shipping Company, launched her self-named company after losing both her parents to cancer.

Speaking in a weekend interview she said: “I don’t have debt, I couldn’t have the stress of it.

“When I had cancer I decided to avoid that. A lot of people would say it’s foolish not to have debt and that I grew slowly as a result, but I didn’t set out to make a fortune.

“I wanted to earn a living and enjoy what I do. The fact the business is very successful is phenomenal.”

It was while battling cancer that Kidston decided life was too grim to feature anything but brightly-coloured polka-dot aprons and cheerful homeware in her stores.

Breast cancer saw her undergo an emergency mastectomy in her mid-thirties.

She said: “That was very much a positive that came out of something negative.

“With cancer we have no idea when it might come back again. I thought, if anything happens to me I don’t want to feel haven’t really lived my life to the full and taken risks.

“I thought, to hell with it, how will I feel in five years time if I don’t do it.

“Both my parents died of cancer that was inoperable, so when you’re told you have breast cancer and you can do something about it that’s not so terrible. If you go through something painful, it gives you strength.”

Kidston lists Glasgow’s Tam Shepherd’s Trick Shop as her favourite store, having stopped off there to buy whoopee cushions and fart gas every summer during childhood holidays.

She said: “The best outing is to go there and stock up. We always used to go when we went to Glasgow.

“I’m very proud of my Scottish roots. There’s a Scottish side to me I wish I was more drawn to because I’m a bit extravagant.

“I was so proud of my dad and he was such a lovely, funny man.”

Cath Kidston Limited now has 34 shops worldwide including two in Tokyo, one in Osaka and another due to open in Heathrow airport.

I’ve always been interested in how advertisers and companies choose typefaces to promote their companies. Why futura versus helvetica, etc. Well, the good folks over at the blog idsgn have started a series called Know Your Type in which they look into the history behind some of the most significant typefaces.

It really is interesting to look at the subconscious significance that certain typefaces have, and the way that companies use that to their advantage in advertising. Companies such as Sony, Starbucks, and Wells Fargo like Clarendon due to the attention-getting boldness of the type. An attribute employed years ago in old west “Wanted” posters. Whereas DIN evolved out of the German Railway system. Who knew?

Each article is quite interesting and worth a look. I particularly like the one on Futura. Links below.

First morning, opening up with Daniel Szuc and Gerry Gaffney, while sitting with @stefwill and @will

First morning, opening up with Daniel Szuc and Gerry Gaffney, while sitting with @stefwill and @willdonovan (and you can find them both on twitter under those names). We were all in mild shock at Canberra having better weather than Melbourne, but arrived safely at #UXAustralia. This is going to be a fairly long post, as I am typing this late at night while listening to @stefwill tell me about Hamlet. In addition, it’s mostly parts of my notes either transcribed directly or somewhat interpreted.

Usability workshop wordl

Everyone introduced themselves with their name, favourite thing, and so forth. There were a few repeating themes, mostly surrounding the fact that many usability workers felt that they were not being listened to. This increased the challenges that folk felt that they were facing – the inclusion of the user voice as a serious concern, and so forth.

Gerry suggested a solution to this being based on placing the emphasis on analysis – the ‘Sweet Spot’ of usability.

We spent some time defining what usability meant to us, focusing on products themselves such as mobile phones (keyboards too small, text difficult to read), and the self-checkout systems at Woolworths and Coles which were generally understood to be poor examples that increased frustration. While some people found them easy to use, most focused on the fact that an error was unrecoverable from by the user and required staff intervention.

Almost everyone repeated that desired characteristics in usability were low learning thresholds, and there were repetitions of ideas that reminded me of many of those in ‘Don’t Make Me Think’. Any item which lacked a clear linear progression in its use tended to be considered difficult to use if the users were not familiar already with the system.

After our introduction, we moved onto discussion of who counts as a user and the tendency for management or other superiors to declare themselves the users for the purposes of speed and testing, thus leading to products which weren’t technically servicing the needs of those they were actually produced for.

Gerry Gaffney defined usability for himself as ‘Quality and Value’ – where quality was an element of the product that helped produce value for the end user. He also stated that ‘there is no point in making something beautiful’ – while the implied addition was ‘without it being usable’, I feel that there is in some ways here a lack of what really good graphic design can bring to the table in the form of pre-attentive variables and a positive experience and so on.

On selling usability in an organisation:

A suggestion is to turn the product into a case study – the goal is to help make the product successful.”

Gerry Gaffney: “Get one little win as proof of concept for usability.”

Daniel Szuc: “Avoid using jargon – try to use the user’s language.”

Other suggestions included talking to examples – asking senior managers for examples in usability that delight them.

ISO rules summarised for usability – Is it effective, is it efficient? And does it create satisfaction?

Some criticisms of usability – Too narrow a focus, are usability experts really only concerned with the interface?

Daniel Szuc: “Usability has not done the best job of marketing itself.”

Daniel Szuc: “User researcher rather than usability.”

Ways of referring to this whole sort of thing:

Broader Experience

User Experience

Customer experience

Interaction design

Emotional design (Donald Norman)

Persuasive Design (HF)

In addition, iteration is a good term for those who fear the concept of Usability.

Usability is only successful if the conversations that happen around iteration and storyboards are captured and used. It may be necessary to ditch jargon as required in order to either sell the concept of usability or make it all more transparent to the user.

Usability Analysis as the focus for the work.

All products have an underlining business requirement that must be fulfilled, and at times usability experts might stab themselves in the foot because they are not so concerned with this angle. Items must have a value proposition for the business, as uncomfortable as that is from a pure design stand point.

Concepts of responsibility, danger, and confusion:

If you don’t know, ask, because chances are that there are other people around the table who also do not know. Be wary of this being used against you by those who might be using usability in bad faith (i.e., you have been hired to okay the project rather than validating it).

Gerry Gaffney: “Why can get you fired.”

What do you do when usability is being used as a weapon? Usability in bad faith? Well, most people eventually uncomfortably came up to the idea that if it is not respected, one might have to leave the organisation.

As an exercise: Do you know your target?

Prospects

Influence

Hot points/Triggers

Fears/Frustrations

Outcomes

Be able to say no.

The OMG Colours situation:

Be strong enough to firmly guide the meeting – “These are our scenarios, these are our functions, this is the walk through.” Take control so as to avoid derailing caused by people critiquing colours and logos and layouts rather than the functionality.

Daniel Szuc: “Rewards are very important. Products that work well are those where reward systems are in place – is a good user experience being rewarded in development?” Encouraging professionals in usability.

Who are you? You don’t need funds!

Sell yourself with confidence and professionalism.

Businesses are tending to see usability as high cost in terms of time, intellectual property protection, and see them as non-traditional areas that are consuming resources.

From Paul Sherman – Understand the culture in your organisation

Is it:

Engineer centric

Design centric

Sales and Marketing centric?

Maturity in an organisation – just do it, don’t become over-concerned with the tools (as it pertains to design).

Do it twice (as in the fixes – fix the error, then fix what is causing the error).

About Google – Our Philosophy is ‘Focus on the user and all else will follow’

Pitching focusing on the budget but not the product itself can be a warning sign.

The value of competitive analysis?

Emulate exemplary products

Try to avoid past mistakes.

Innovation versus copying with competitive analysis.

Gerry Gaffney – “Best practice analysis should be conducted or you are being negligent.” (With regard to competitive analysis).

Useful conceptual tools in questioning:

What do you think of when you hear <ourbrand>?

What brands do you think of when you think of great design?

Daniel Szuc – “Its all too easy to sit with a bunch of people and crap all over a design. What are the opportunities?”

Use google to help you find overseas websites and experiences outside the traditional look.

Touch Points – Where does the organisation contact users? And how does it do so? Is this in the form of staff, branches, forms, advertising, or annoyingly perky sales people that you would like to choke.

“How to fit into your Customer’s multi-channel lives.”

Stakeholder Interviews

One on one interviews – people might be more open in this situation. Another benefit is that people feel heard.

Stakeholder Workshops

Will require a good facilitator

Try doing a basic design and workshopping that specifically.

Diary Studies

Get the user to do collages representing their lives and who they are – this will give you amazing insights and some very cool ideas about the person themselves. Diary studies are also called cultural probes, which apparently has nothing to do with alien abduction. Indeed sometimes it is not ethical or private to interact directly with users, and therefore a diary approach can help in this situation.

Artefacts

Note – number artefacts and associate number with diagrams, scenarios and more. This will help you later on.

Affinity Diagramming

Card layouts and more! Okay, I admit, I was drawing some Art Deco designs by this point.

Personas

Personas are very useful, but try and keep it to three to four.

Gerry Gaffney: “Microsoft has hundreds of personas which is a sign they don’t know what they are doing.”

Some ideas for persona layouts and headings:

Pain points

Opportunities

Context of use

Websites Using

Experience Vision

Research Questions

Scenarios

Use them during design.

Use them during evaluation.

Daniel Szuc – “Take a thirty second video clip of the user and ask them a question – ‘what was your experience with the product?’ This is a very powerful tool.”

At all levels, try to avoid describing technology as it will obscure the design. Describe function instead. Pick common scenarios only in the 80/20 rule, and other very obvious things that we know about backwards but actually rarely implement.

Space

Once you are done with your user testing, evaluate what you have in order to get some space – it is not uncommon for user experience experts to find that they are too close to the situation to allow for mental categorisation or sudden insight. It might help to have a day’s break in between.

One can conduct:

Usability Reviews

Walk Throughs

Usability Tests

And the last one is the most important according to Gerry Gaffney.

Two last quotes:

Daniel Szuc – “It isn’t about how many issues you find, it’s about how important they are and what you do about them.”

Gerry Gaffney – “It’s easy to overcook a usability review!”

Things not to do in an airport:

Accidentally steal someone’s luggage. You know what happens when you accidentally steal a taxi-driver’s bag at an airport? Let me tell you – it is like those days when you cannot get rid of a bomb. Literally. Yes, we had someone else’s luggage, having accidentally grabbed it, and COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN ANYWHERE SINCE NO ONE WOULD TAKE IT. Even customs would not take it. Security would not take it. NO ONE WOULD TAKE IT. Other taxi drivers would not take it. The cab company did not care. No one cared. You cannot dump it anywhere or security will jump you! YOU HAVE THE LUGGAGE OF PESTILENCE, AN ALBATROSS ABOUT YOUR THROAT.

Eventually the taxi driver found us and it was all okay. He said it was just as well as he had ten thousand dollars in it.

It took over an hour. As we were walking away, the airport announcement came on:

“Please do not leave any luggage unattended.”

When you’re working on a project it’s great to run through it start to finish without a snag. But most likely you’ll hit a speed bump here and there. Most people will get stuck in a rut and will not be able to get themselves out before it’s too late. We’ve all been there. You feel literally lost and don’t know what the next step is or if there is one to take at all.

The obvious answer to your dilemma is to get inspired again, but how do you do that? Here are a few simple tricks I have picked up that can help turn things around when you’re feeling down–hope they help…

Change up your workspace. Little things like changing your desktop image on our computer or reorganizing your physical work space will “refresh” your surroundings. You will be surprised how this can influence you differently when you are working on a project.

Work outside of the office or classroom. Go the the park, a restaurant, a bar. Get a beer, a hot-dog…..a slurpy. Watch people walk, look at art at a museum. Look at graffiti. Let’s not forget to see anything while we’re looking either. Just work somewhere different every once in a while. You most often find what you’re looking for in the usual, yet unexpected, places.

Ask for help. This by far is the hardest thing to do. Slap your ego in the face and ask for an opinion. How should this look? What feeling does this convey to you? WWJD? What is your favorite color? – Be sure to accept criticism. Even the most trivial questions will be met with a fresh perspective that isn’t yours. A majority of the time you won’t come up with a good solution, you will find one.

Do something else. Unless you’re “on fire”, make sure you reset your brain after a long period of work. Some of the best ideas take minutes to come up with, and just seconds to over-think. Put down whatever it is you’re working on, go have some fun and come back to the idea later. If you don’t re-boot on occasion, you and your work will suffer.

Start over. Even if you are in love with your project, when you get hung up start fresh. Head back to the drawing board and do something 180 degrees from what you’ve got, then 360. Maybe it will evolve into something ten times better, maybe not. It’s still a good exercise to get you thinking on a different level.

Teach yourself how to do something new. Whether you learn a key board short cut for something or look up a new word in the dictionary, go learn. It may not help with what you’re working on at the moment, but it will almost always help you do something better down the road.

Make a Journal. A tip from the college years. Write down and/or draw your best ideas and worst thoughts, or vise versa. Save receipts and matchbooks. How ever you decide to do it, documenting events and things you like or don’t like may come in handy later. Thanks B

artist designed apparel artist designed apparel artist designed apparel Just when you hold cash does

artist designed apparel

artist designed apparel

artist designed apparel

Just when you hold cash doesn’t cruel you suffer to spend it. In art collecting it can in essence be a disadvantage to be flush in cash, at the very least when you’re a beginner. I say such a due to the fact that it’s rougher to resist the temptation to deal art when you undergo money. Even if you’re a financially disciplined person, art can play on your emotions and you can purchase yourself spending funny things without restraint as opposed to you persistently suffer before. Take the tad to figure out in regards to the sort of art you covet to collect. Unbelievable deals don’t arrive right about often, and properties rarely appear to commencing collectors. There ought to ever be worthy art to purchase. The highest quality fact for you to do is take your cycle and learn, learn, learn on the artists or category of art you look for to buy. When you feel such a you’re prepared to take the plunge and buy a piece of art, be definite to discover as a good deal nearly the artist as you can. Especially check the artist’s auction inserts if there are any. Auction inserts are not definitive, but properties are really helpful.

Narrow lowered your collecting mortgage as still as you perhaps can. You can similar to all sorts of art, but it would work on the behalf of your better interests to narrow reduced the scope of your art collecting interests as still as possible. The greater number of you narrow at a slump your collecting interest, the greater amount of of an proficient you’re perhaps to become in this individual area. One of the leading joys of collecting art is learning so that much nearly an artist who you feel roughly fancy you can make out him, or studying the duration of history in that the art was developed. The larger number of the present is done, the greater your swell of your assembly should be, and your enthusiasm and knowledge can be discernible when you substantiate off your collection.

Yes, you ought to buy a piece of art when you stink it, BUT take the mortgage aspect to thought too. It has become a cliché in the art advice boom to inform mortgage holders overly the perfect truth for them to do is buy the art the present properties love. This is sharp advice, but somehow hidden in the current statement looks to be a softer message to not take the banking aspect of the piece to consideration. I say buy the art the you love, but moreover earn positive you’re not sending in too a great deal for it and contemplate your end game. I wouldn’t advise asking, “How a good deal income can I produce on the current painting? Or How a great deal can it appreciate?” Rather, simply be certain this you can recoup your investment. Tragedies can happen, and sadly how consumers earliest mull over marketing to appreciation income is such a art collection.

Buying term by a deceased artist is typically ebbed financially unsafe as opposed to attaining art by a recent artist. This is due to the fact that the art world for a current artist has not exceptionally been heard tested. Most deceased artists own a small amount of sort of zenith of cash in on on the secondary market, whether it be at an auction or a gallery. This landmark permits you an concept of how is an appropriate values to pay for a run by a select artist.

Just as a painting is signed “T.C. Steele” doesn’t hint T.C. Steele in fact signed it or significantly did the painting. What often comes about is this a family member, often a wife or son or sister, signs an artist’s paintings once he dies. If the is the case, it comes down the market worth of the painting. Of course, an “artist signed” painting is able to moreover be a forgery. I’ve witnessed loads of paintings this bear the signature of an artist who without a doubt didn’t do the painting. An art appraiser can allow you in determining the authenticity of a signature or painting.

Just as a desirable artist did a painting doesn’t unkind the current the painting is desirable. Every artist had his favorably days and bad days. Some had other bad as opposed to good. Certain periods of an artist’s operate are in addition a large amount of desirable as opposed to a greater number of periods. Also, if an artist is well & known for painting landscapes, a painting the present he did of a cat is possibly happening to be significantly reduced desirable. The medium is furthermore pertinent in determining desirability. Overall, oil paintings have a tendency to point as a large number of desirable; however, there are artists who make it out in all mediums but whose watercolors or prints are further in clamor as opposed to this oil paintings.

artist designed apparel

There are a lot of superior deals on eBay. There are too a lot of fakes, junk, inexperienced marketers and shippers, and hucksters. Ebay can be a desired place to learn around art, but it is not for the most part at which the better pieces by an artist appear. This is as the most ideal pieces are regularly brokered between dealers and the clients. Occasionally, these kinds of pieces take in it onto eBay, but regularly over make a home auctions. Ebay can in addition be a financially precarious place to buy art. The lot of fakes, questionable works, and bad paintings on eBay is rather high. Unless you are an specialized in a select category of art or on a exact artist, I’d put off getting on eBay until you’re definite you can appreciate how you’re doing. Even at that time you can continuing to motivate mistakes. (e.g. attaining a print too was depicted by the seller as a painting, becoming an sharp buy easily to obtain the item damaged due to the fact that it was improperly packaged for shipping)

Most art dealers aren’t dishonest, but the dishonest sites own a radar for persons who wish to be speedily parted of such a money. When attaining a painting based on a gallery or dealer, try to obtain out as still as potential around at which the painting came from. Provenance enhances the market value of a painting. Also, if the values looks like it’s to be out of succession through similar pieces you’ve witnessed by the artist, ask the dealer how he came up amid the price. He may undergo especially sound reasons for the price level change (or you may not be familiar an adequate amount of through the artist), but if he gets defensive or combative, be suspicious.

Pricing art is an art. It’s as well side science and speculation. Art is not a commodity. Therefore, there are valuable variations in price, a great deal amongst the functions of one artist. It’s not peculiar for an artist to experience a extreme auction turn over value of within a million bucks and a low one in the over a hundred dollars or low thousands. This occurs for distinct reasons, by and large connected to size, medium, and age created. Always remember, any values can be put on a spinet of art, but there’s no asserting it’s rates the tag value until it sells. Also carry on in mind such a pricing art is not formulaic. There are dealers out there who are intentionally attempting to rip homeowners off by rendering them overpay for art. But various dealers use all the knowledge they’ve depleted ample age acquiring; properties research, properties gobbledygook to opposite dealers, and later properties appear up amid how properties contemplate to be a fair sell levels for a piece.

Don’t be an art day trader. Unless you are an art dealer, I don’t advise attaining paintings and swiftly trading or marketing them for somewhat else. I hold not met a collector yet who has not lost dollars working at this. And the collector largely ends up frustrating the art dealer he’s wrestling surrounded by in the process.
