The side project of the Saci Perere Art Gallery has to re-surface again soon, the plan is to hit Belfast with a wonderful and diverse array of art works, hopefully from artists all over Ireland. I’ve been reading lately about Mail Art Exhibitions, this I like immensely. Brainstorming ideas at the moment in regards to how I can make this next Expo something Spectacularly different, creative and original that will blow everyone’s minds.

Drawing has been taking up some time lately, I find I have to really push myself with drawing as I’m so easily distracted. Since moving my studio to my home premises I have found it slightly challenging to manage my time in their effectively. I find myself working better in the early hours of the morning when everyone else is asleep, it’s the only time my mind feels completely clear and can concentrate sincerely.

Salutations, fellow people of the internet. I just wanted to show off something I made in a matter of minutes. Well. Here you go!

It’s a Crysis!

For this one I have a sweet project to show, the request was for a rear fender bib for a 2008 Harley Dyna Street Bob with tooling similar to the Tribal Punisher whaletail tank bib I did earlier this year only with the WillyG skull.  In looking at pics of the bike, I suggested also replacing the tribal background with one that would match the tribal style in the paint job.  While I haven’t made the bib yet, I thought it would be good for you readers to see how the design part came together.

First, a pic of the bike…nice looking ride!

To start with, clean pictures of the front fender paint were imported into iDraw (awesome iPad vector graphics app) where I create vector maps of the tribal design.  I break up each element or section into individual pieces where possible so they can be duplicated, skewed, etc. when necessary to fill in.

Next up, copy & paste the new vectors into a blank document and edit where needed.  In this design, I replicated two of the tribal elements and placed them into the design to create a few more spikes and crowns in the final design.

Now to create the full background tribal image.  Copy & paste the tribal vectors into another new document (constantly using new documents at various stages ensures the previous step isn’t horribly mangled by mistakes in future steps and can be easily recovered).  The vectors are rotated, resized, stretched, skewed, etc. to give the profile wanted and then copy, paste, flip and move into place with a slight overlap to create a common void in the center.

Last but not least, create a vector version of the WillyG skull, fill in the tribal vectors to create a solid shape and insert the new skull vectors for a complete pattern ready to tool!

So tell us kimberly, how and why did you got started into this career?

I got my start through ice skating. I was a professional coach, choreographer, and also toured with ice shows. Had to do a lot of acting on the ice, especially if it was a themed show ie: Chicago on Ice. Also had to do promotional photoshoots for this reason.

I tore a ligament in my knee, twice, and that was the end of that, but acting was there for me as a fallback career, and I haven’t looked back since!

That must been tough for you, injuries are never good, and specially those that stop you from doing what you love, but seems you got everything pretty good so far, what is that you try to achieve in your career?

I would love to make a decent living as an actress, and by decent I don’t necessarily mean famous, just make enough to pay the bills   If everyone could work in the area they were most passionate in the world would be a very different place I believe.

That’s true, choosing something for the wrong reason it usually never ends good, but anyway, let’s move on towards our next question, you’re such an interesting person, and more likely, such an interesting artist, is there anything else that moves you or that you love besides acting?

My other passion is behind a microphone, I am in a different world when I’m on stage and into a song. Time stops, so really I have two passions, and two fields which I would love to do for a living, however I think acting comes more naturally to me.

So what about the people you’ve been working with? Is there any special compliments you received? What is the thing everyone says when they work with you?

I have been on the scene long enough to make some really good contacts and the one thing I always hear from everyone is how professional I am. If I say I am going to be somewhere, I am, and I am always on time if not early. I get the job done, and am always willing to give %100 of myself in order to get the shot, or scene etc perfect.

That is such a lovely thing to hear, it’s always good to have reliable actors and professional, as sometimes you find out stuck in the dust and knowing that someone is professional, going to be on time and always willing to give their best is more than many directors would probably die for! Thank you kimberly for sharing your work and letting us know getting to know you better, it’s been delightful to interview you and feature you on our blog. We wish you the best of lucks from now on and hope to write about you sometime soon with some new work!
