Vamos começar pelo começo:

ZiPhone:

Foi, sem sombra de dúvida, a ferramenta de jailbreak mais famosa. Fazia o jailbreak e unlock sem necessidade de DFU, LibUSB e coisas do gênero. Era a ferramenta mais simples de jailbreak e era compatível com Mac e Windows.
O azar é que só existiu até o firmware 1.1.x.
Seu criador, Zibri, abandonou o projeto, pois dizia que estava sofrendo muita pressão.

iLibertyx/iLiberty+:

Esta ferramenta também foi desenvolvida afim de fazer jailbreak no firmware 1.1.x, e funcionava em Mac e Windows. Assim como o ZiPhone, não passou deste firmware.

PwnageTool:

Criado para libertar o iPhoneOS 2.x, compatível apenas com Mac. Seu funcionamento é totalmente diferente do ZiPhone, nessa ferramenta o usuário deve colocar o aparelho em modo DFU e criar um firmware custom, onde se encontra o jailbreak.
Agora a ferramenta está na versão 3.1.4 e faz jailbreak no firmware 3.1.2.

WinPwn:

Os usuários de Windows reclamaram que não surgiu um jailbreak para o 2.0 no Windows, então o hacker CMW criou esta ferramenta. O programa chegou até a versão 3.0, onde fazia o jailbreak do firmware 2.1.

QuickPwn:

Este foi um jailbreak bem semelhante ao ZiPhone, que era feito via Ramdisk, sem necessidade de Restore.
Ele fazia jailbreak e desbloqueio no firmware 2.0 e 2.1 Era compatível com iPod Touch 1G (jailbreak), iPhone Classic (jailbreak e desbloqueio) e iPhone 3G (jailbreak).
Devidos a problemas com o nome QuickPwn a ferramenta foi descontinuada.

Quick Freedom:

Foi a primeira ferramenta a fazer jailbreak no iPod Touch 2G no firmware 2.2.1. Era necessário colocar o aparelho em modo DFU e fazer um Custom Firmware, para ser usado na restauração no iTunes.

RedSn0w:

Criado para fazer o jailbreak na versão 3.0 do iPhoneOS. Era compatível com todos os gadgets, e na sua última versão se tornou compatível com o iPhone 3GS.
A ferramenta ainda não é compatível com o firmware 3.1.2, mas parece que o Dev-Team está trabalhando em uma atualização.

PurpleRa1n:

A ferramenta de jailbreak para libertar o iPhone 3GS com um clique criada por GeoHot. Depois do jailbreak aparecia um aplicativo na Springoboard, o Freeze, por onde podia se instalar o Cydia.

Appuloha1l/Chocolatera1n:

Supostas ferramentas desenvolvidas pelo grupo Appuloha1l que seriam lançadas em outubro. Elas fariam o jailbreak no firmware 3.1.2, mas até agora não foram lançadas.

Sn0wBreeze:

Essa ferramenta do grupo iH8sn0w seria lançada em outubro e faria o jailbreak no iPhoneOS 3.1.2. O prgrama era para ser uma alternativa para ao PwnageTool 3.1.4 para os usuários de Windows.

BlackRa1n:

Uma ferramenta que segue o mesmo formato do PurpleRa1n. O processo leva menos de 10 minutos e faz jailbreak em todos os aparelhos no firmware 3.1.2, porém no iPod Touch 3G (2G’09) o jailbreak é tethered. Após a libertação aparecerá um aplicativo na Springboard, o blackra1n, por onde é possível instalar o Cydia, Rock e Blacksn0w (desbloqueio de operadora).

GreenPois0n:

Programa que fará a fuga dos presos no iPod Touch 3G (2G’09) e no “novo” iPhone 3GS no firmware 3.1.2. A ferramenta está sendo desenvolvida pelo Chronic Dev-Team e não tem previsão certa para lançamento. A equipe está pensando em lançar uma versão lite, que faça jailbreak semi-tethered no iPod 3G e no iPhone 3GS.

It can’t really do anything about the iPhone hardware that’s already on the market, aside from trying to block jailbreaking via software methods again and again, but Apple (s aapl) has made hardware changes to the latest shipments of iPhone 3GS devices that should ensure they can’t be unlocked, at least for the time being.

The newest devices hitting the market have an updated boot ROM that blocks the exploit typically used in jailbreaking the 3GS, known as the 24kpwn exploit. iPhone Dev-Team member MuscleNerd confirmed that the block does indeed mean that for now, a standard jailbreak on these devices is out of the question.

The 24kpwn exploit was originally discovered early on in the production life of the iPhone 3GS, thanks to connections between the iPhone Developer community and iPhone unlockers. George Hotz (also known as geohot), building on the iPhone Dev Team’s work, published a way to jailbreak the 3GS a few weeks after the exploit was revealed.

Apparently, this is the first time ever that Apple has changed the boot ROM on a production device. Previously, Apple has waited until it released brand new devices to do this, like when the 3GS was originally introduced. Presumably, there is a not insignificant cost associated with making that kind of change mid-production.

In all likelihood, it’s only a matter of time before another exploit is discovered and taken advantage of in order to jailbreak the newer 3GS phones, too, but for now, Apple has dealt a significant blow to the Dev-Team and those who’d rather not rest comfortably under the yoke of Apple and friends. Of course, if you haven’t bought your device within the last week, you should have no problem using the recently released jailbreaking tools for the most recent iPhone OS release, 3.1.2.

Apple’s main problem with jailbreaking, in all likelihood, is the fact that it leads to significantly high rates of piracy on the company’s devices. According to MacRumors, of the nearly four million jailbroken iPhones estimated to be in existence, a full 38 percent of those are using at least one pirated app. Additionally, of iPhone apps that have been successfully cracked and distributed, a full third of the installations are of pirated copies.

So, to Apple’s mind, jailbreaking is depriving it of a nice chunk of its revenue on some of the most popular apps available in the App Store. Even if the boot ROM update only effectively blocks jailbreaking for a month or two, it should have a positive effect in Apple’s income stream for that period.

Apple scheint ja in letzter Zeit alle paar Wochen eine Update fürs iPhone OS rauszubringen. Nachdem ich vor zwei Wochen 3.1.1 aufgespielt und gejailbreakt habe wurde diese Woche 3.1.2 und vor kurzem dann Blackra1n für Mac und PwnageTool 3.1.4 veröffentlicht. Ich beschreibe hier den Jailbreak mit dem PwnageTool.

Zuerst ist es nötig, sich das Update für iPhone OS zu besorgen. Das geht am besten über iTunes, wenn man im “Neues Update verfügbar”-Dialog (oder so..) “Nur Laden” anklickt. iTunes speichert die .ipsw dann in /Users/USERNAME/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/ . Alternativ kann die passende Firmware auch auf http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ heruntergeladen werden. Außerdem wird das PwnageTool benötigt. Besitzt man nun die nötige Software, muss mit PwnageTool eine custom-.ipsw erstellt werden. Das Programm leitet durch die nötigen Schritte und erklärt diese, darum gehe ich darauf hier nicht ein. Anschließend spielt man diese mit einer benutzerdefinierten Wiederherstellung mit iTunes auf den iPod touch/das iPhone. Damit ist der Jailbreak abgeschlossen.

Das ganze klappte bei mir beim ersten Versuch problemlos.

Here are some details on our latest version of PwnageTool 3.1.4 for Mac OS X which supports the 3.1.2 release of the iPhone software for iPhone 2G/3G/3GS and iPod Touch 1G/2G.

If you’re already jailbroken (by whatever means), you don’t need to mess around with DFU mode at all.  Just create (or get from a friend) your custom IPSW and Option-Restore (Shift-Restore on Windows) to it via iTunes.  Don’t enter DFU mode at all.  Please make sure you are restoring to the custom IPSW, not the stock one from Apple!  For best results, use the latest iTunes (9.0.1) — which includes a nice new application organizer.

This release allows your baseband to remain unlocked at 3.1.2, but it does not unlock a new baseband put there by restoring to official 3.1.x.  It is super important that people who need the unlock to understand they can keep it only by starting at 3.0 (or earlier) and updating solely to custom IPSWs that don’t update the baseband.  For those who have been onboard the “unlock train”, simply install ultrasn0w via Cydia once you’ve restored to your custom IPSW.  Don’t forget to turn off the “3G” setting in Settings->General->Network if you use T-Mobile in the U.S.A.

Note for 3GS users not already jailbroken and stuck at 3.1.x: this version of PwnageTool has a side feature to jailbreak your 3GS.  It uses a simple implementation of the usb control msg hole found by chronicdev, geohot, and our very own gray.  Now that the hole is public and in use, we expect Apple to close it by the next major firmware update. That’s why 3GS users need to get their ECID hashes for 3.1.x now, and need to stay onboard the “jailbreak train” in all future updates.  For more details on what this means, please see our earlier posts or ask in our comments section (moderated by the always helpful @angie and @confucious!).

For the early adopters who ran blackra1n and are having problems with mobilesubstrate, winterboard, diskaid, or ifunbox, you can install a custom .ipsw from PwnageTool to fix these issues.  That’s because all jailbroken devices accept a custom .ipsw created by PwnageTool.  (However, if you ran blackra1n on a 3G or 3GS that means you updated to stock 3.1.x, and the carrier unlock is now out of reach.  We’ll continue to work on a carrier unlock for the latest basebands, but the timeframe for such an unlock is unknowable.)

Note: If you use internet tethering on a carrier that doesn’t officially support it, you’ll lose it by going to 3.1.x.  Stay back at 3.0 until a hack for that is developed.

SUMMARY:

• The iPhone 3GS is now supported out of the box in PwnageTool 3.1.4 (or if you have upgraded to 3.1.x in iTunes)
• The iPod 2G is still supported in PwnageTool 3.1.4 but you must already be jailbroken (we’ll update this if there’s a big demand from non-jailbroken ipt2G owners)
• The iPod touch 3G is NOT supported

DETAILS:

1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a iPhone 3G or iPhone 3G(S) with ultrasn0w and rely on ultrasn0w to obtain cellular service then you should only update your device with an .ipsw that is made with the new PwnageTool. There are no second chances with this. You need to remember that PwnageTool will provide an upgrade path to newer versions of the iPhone software in the future.
2. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
3. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
4. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the 3.1.4 capable version of PwnageTool.
5. PwnageTool will work for the iPhone 3GS
6. PwnageTool will work for the iPod touch 2G
7. PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G(S) and the iPod touch (1st Generation and 2nd Generation) but NOT the iPod touch 3rd generation.
8. For 3G and 3G(S) users who are Pwned, PwnageTool is your key to updating in the future, just remember to never install an update directly from Apple, always use an .ipsw that has been created with PwnageTool.
9. There is no Windows version of PwnageTool it is a Mac OS X tool only, we are not developing a Windows version of PwnageTool.

What’s a Baseband?

The ‘baseband’ is the generic nickname given to the internal components of the iPhone that handle the phone calls and Internet access. This ‘baseband’ is a tiny and unique independent computer system that runs inside your iPhone, it is separate to the main system that handles the applications (such as email and google maps) and it talks to the main part of the phone over an internal communications network.

Think of it like a cable modem or other peripheral that is attached to your home PC that needs occasional updates. When a software update is released and presented to you within iTunes the baseband is sometimes updated (to fix bugs or add new features).

The 3.1.2 update for the iPhone 3G and 3GS contains such an update, so running the vanilla updater straight away with iTunes will reprogram and update the baseband.

WHICH DEVICE DO I HAVE?

Read the description to identify your device, once you have correctly identified your device follow the specific instructions for that device as listed below.

SIM Free/SP Unlocked/Factory Unlocked iPhone 3G(S)

This applies if you bought your iPhone 3G(S) for $$$$$$$. This model of iPhone 3G(S) doesn’t have an Service Provider lock (aka factory unlocked) and you are able to put any SIM card into the phone and get service. Your phone is already unlocked so you do not need to worry about baseband updates, you can use PwnageTool to create an ipsw and then use this to update and jailbreak your phone.

SIM Free/SP Unlocked/Factory Unlocked iPhone 3G

This applies if you bought your iPhone 3G for $$$$$$$. This model of iPhone 3G doesn’t have an Service Provider lock (aka factory unlocked) and you are able to put any SIM card into the phone and get service. iPod Touch 1G (Original iPod Touch)

Use PwnageTool to create a firmware image and restore with that .ipsw using iTunes.

iPod Touch 2G

Use PwnageTool to create a firmware image and restore with that .ipsw to your already jailbroken device using iTunes.

iPod Touch 3G

At this time PwnageTool does not support this device.

Dev-Team is the most reliable source when it comes to unlocking and jail-breaking Iphone and Ipod Touch. Thanks to them a lot of people can actually use their owned Iphones with other carriers which should be the case as most of the Iphone owners land up paying more than the retail price of the Iphone.

El iPhone Dev-Team ha sufrido un montón para darle compatibilidad PwnageTool 3.1.3 con el iPhone OS 3.1 y la mayoría era feliz hasta que Apple decidió actualizar el firmware a la versión 3.1.2.
Oficialmente el Dev-Team ha comunicado que PwnageTool 3.1.3 no es compatible con el iPhone OS 3.1.2. Todas las personas que actualmente hayan hecho jailbreak a sus dispositivos, evitar actualizar al firmware 3.1.2.

- PwnageTool y redsn0w no son compatibles con el OS 3.1.2

Hace menos de 2 horas, el Dev-team a traves de su twitter a informado, que uno de sus miembros(widaz), ha anunciado el lanzamiento de una aplicacion para iphone y ipod touch, llamada ‘SmartScreen’ que permitirá el uso de widgets de información para ser colocados y utilizados en la pantalla de bloqueo.

Los widgets son similares a las ofrecidas en el menu de Apple y siguen con una familiar apariencia.

Los widgets pueden reordenarse en la pantalla de bloqueo mediante un “toque y manteniendo presionada la pantalla acción que a menudo es utilizado por los usuarios de iPhone o iPod cuando se desean organizar los iconos de la pantalla de inicio.

La aplicación funcionará en todos los modelos de iPhone e iPod touch que se ejecutan OS 3.x, por desgracia, debido a la naturaleza del producto no estará disponible para su compra en la AppStore de Apple, pero se vende a los clientes de teléfonos Jailbroken a través de medios alternativos .

Leo en TUAW que el Dev-Team ya ha sacado Pwnage Tool 3.1, su herramienta con la poder hacer jailbreak de los iPhone con la versión 3.1 del sistema operativo y así poder instalar aplicaciones de terceros y en algunos casos, liberar el teléfono para poder ser usado con cualquier operadora.

Por ahora sólo existe versión de Pwnage Tool para Mac y está orientado únicamente a los iPhone originales, el iPhone 3G y el iPod touch de primera generación.

Personalmente, he leído que el iPhone OS 3.1 está causando bastantes problemas, por lo que mantendré mi iPhone con el firmware 3.0 a la espera de que aparezca una nueva versión en la que solucionen los problemas que hay actualmente.

O DevTeam liberou hoje a PwnageTool 3.1 para o Mac OS X, utilitário usado para a realização de jailbreak em iPhones/iPods Touch, já compatível com o novo firmware 3.1 liberado na semana passada.

Por enquanto, a PwnageTool 3.1 para Mac OS X apenas está disponível por meio de um torrent. Lembre-se: caso você possua um iPhone 3GS ou iPod touch 2G (incluindo os novos, lançados na semana passada), ainda será preciso aguardar a redsn0w, que também permitirá o desbloqueio e jailbreak de todos os gadgets da Maçã para o Microsoft Windows.
