Developing Java Beans

Description

Java Beans is the most important development in Java this year. It gives Java developers the ability to work with sophisticated graphical development tools and to integrate Java software into projects using other component technologies, such as Microsoft’s ActiveX. Developing Java Beans gives you a firm grounding in every aspect of the Java Beans component architecture. You’ll learn how to create components that can be manipulated by tools like Borland’s JBuilder or IBM’s VisualAge for Java, enabling others to build entire applications by using and reusing these building blocks. Beyond the basics, Developing Java Beans teaches you how to create Beans that can be saved and restored properly; how to take advantage of introspection to provide more information about a Bean’s capabilities; how to provide property editors and customizers that manipulate a Bean in sophisticated ways; and how to integrate Java Beans into ActiveX projects. If you’re a Java developer, you’ll want to take advantage of Java’s component architecture. Developing Java Beans gives you a comprehensive introduction to this exciting new technology. The book covers:

Events, event listeners, and adapters

Properties, indexed properties, bound properties, and vetoable property changes

Persistence, serialization, versioning, and object validation

Packaging Beans using JAR files

The BeanBox, a prototypical development tool

Reflection and introspection

Property editors and customizers

The ActiveX bridge; using Java Beans in Visual Basic programs

Hello Bloggers, My name’s Jessica Spencer, the singer and songwriter for The Hall Of Mirrors.

Hello Bloggers,

My name’s Jessica Spencer, the singer and songwriter for The Hall Of Mirrors.

Here is a personal story of how The Hall Of Mirrors began…

I began writing songs at sixteen years of age, found a love of composition through school and decided to start performing them almost immediately.

I remember my first performance like it was yesterday, to sum it up – Venue: Chicago Rock – Audience: Beer Boys, I was heckled the usual things “Oi Oi!!” and I’ll leave the rest to your imagination. For a first gig, I was terrified, but in later years, I have realised that being thrown in the deep end to start a music career is exactly what I needed.

Being brought up on classical music, such as Franz Liszt, Debussy, Mozart, Bach and many others, I can appreciate wonderful melodies and romantic ideas. Other than classical, most popular music never really appealed to me.

That is until I turned 18 and began meeting new people and experiencing new things. Suddenly a whole world was opened to my eyes – all sorts of styles and sounds – some artists to name are: The Velvet Underground, Love, The Zombies, Minnie Riperton, Jefferson Airplane, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Asteroid No.4, Pink Floyd, David Bowie.

After experimenting with other keyboard instruments like the Vox Continental and the Fender Rhodes I fell into a style that is influenced from all the artists mentioned above as well as a little bit of me.

My love of music is growing continually, as I’m only 21 years of age and I have about forty years of music to catch up on! I’m so happy with how my own songwriting is going and I feel I’m now at a stage to share any recordings with anyone that may be of interest.

I formed my band, The Hall Of Mirrors back in January 2009 and the members include – Butchy Davy on guitar, Agatha Molska on guitar, Gareth Tegid-Jones on bass, Sam McNicholl on drums, Marianne Eymard on violin, Lucille Chevalier on violin.

We have been recording in the last part of 2009 and will be touring in 2010.

I look forwards to seeing you at one of our shows, let us know what you think!

If you feel you can bring something to The Hall Of Mirrors team then please email us at thehallofmirrors@live.com

All our love,

This weeks reading from the book, “On Common Ground” was great at really showing me some

This weeks reading from the book, “On Common Ground” was great at really showing me some great points about action plans. You can’t just look at the plan but you also have to look at the action that goes along with it. In Chapter 12 it showed a lot of the problems that could arise from the implementation of this action plan. So it made me think about how much planning you need to do but also make it simple enough that it is doable and the school will buy into acting upon the plan. “The culture of any organization is found in the assumptions, beliefs, expectations, and habits that constitute the norm of its people, but these elements of culture tend to go unexamined” (pg. 235). I think this can really be an issue when implementing an action plan. So many people go with the attitude that “we have always done it this way.” They never seem to question it or look deeper to see if there is a better way. I think this is an important point to look at when developing an action plan and be prepared for many people to have that reaction. By reading this chapter it really helped explain the problems that could come from an action plan while in the planning process as well as taking action. I hope with this information I can eliminate many of those issues while planning and implementing this action plan. I also hope that my school culture will be open to the change.

Does your child have a hard time telling? Do you find yourself discussing incidents that could have

Does your child have a hard time telling? Do you find yourself discussing incidents that could have been avoided if your child reported it? Does your child always seem to get caught defending themselves? Developing the habit of reporting something wrong is not always easy. Some children can do it with ease while others find it more challenging.

What Hinders Your Child From Reporting?

There are often different reasons why children fail to report incidents, but I consider the main ones to be

(1) Fear of not being cool;

(2) Fear of retaliation against the person being told on;

(3) Not wanting to be seen as a tattletale and

(4) Wanting to handle things themselves.

If your child or someone you know has ever been victimized by name calling, bullying, teasing or isolation, you may probably think that those circumstances would most definitely be reported by the victim. However, studies show that twice the amount of reported instances of abuse goes unreported and in some cases that number triples. The unreported situation becomes repressed. The repression stays until it can no longer be contained and extreme action is taken. We see this in acts of teen violence, suicide, promiscuity, drugs and alcohol abuse. We do not have to look very far to remember the Virginia Massacre, Columbine Shootings and many other school-related incidents that were found to be the result of repressed emotions. Sometimes the instances that cause these feelings are easily identifiable and other times it is not so evident.

Developing a Citizen-Watch Child

When children are unable to develop a reporting habit from an early stage, it translates or follows them throughout their life. It can carry over in areas where a child is being physically abused and is afraid to tell someone or later in adult life, it can hinder them from reporting incidents in the workplace and community. Many persons experiencing sexual harassment, verbal and physical abuse fail to report it for fear of retaliation. Developing what I term a “citizen-watch” child promotes the idea that when he/she sees someone in trouble, calling a policeman, fireman or another community authority becomes second nature. Efforts should be made to not only encourage the child to report the incident involving them but also if they see others in trouble as well. This grooming and development must begin at the elementary school level.

How to Develop a Citizen-Watch Child?

ERR

Education: Educate your child. Talk with your child every day about situations that happen and the way it was handled or could have been handled. Use role play to devise situations that could occur and devise possible strategies for solutions. Encourage your child to share things with you even if they are at fault. Stress the importance of an open and honest relationship as a means of protection. Role model: Children learn a lot through observation. Let your child see how you handle situations that need reporting.

Repetition: In the same way that it takes numerous exposures to a concept like learning a new language, music or sport before it becomes retained or a learned behavior, you must educate your child constantly. Drill these concepts every day for maximum learning and optimal practice.

Reward: As adults, when we receive a bonus at work, a promotion on the job, lunch from a friend and/or a gift from our spouses, we are becoming conditioned to continue working at that which brought us the reward. Similarly, when working with children, good behavior and adherence to rules and promises should too be rewarded. Some may call it bribery but rewarding your child when he/she practices this behavior reinforces the established belief system and also removes the “not so cool” hindrance of reporting.

Climate change and reduction of emissions is the buzzword these days. With the Copenhagen Climate Ch

Climate change and reduction of emissions is the buzzword these days. With the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference slated to be held during December 6-18, 2009, there is an urgent need to ratify a successor to the Kyoto Protocol which runs out in 2012. At the conference, it is hoped that world leaders would meet for the last time at government level before the climate agreement is renewed.

Barack Obama and other leaders have confirmed what has been likely for some time – that there won’t be a legally binding deal at the end of the conference. The longer the world dallies on putting in place the aggressive emissions reductions needed to avoid dangerous levels of climate change , the more risk we are placing before our next generation. Global warming does far more damage to poor countries than it does to the climate. In a report in 2006, Lord Nicholas Stern calculated that a 2°C rise in global temperature cost about 1% of world GDP. But the World Bank in its new World Development Report says the cost to Africa will be like 4% of GDP and to India around 5%. Even if environmental costs were distributed equally to every person on earth, developing countries would still bear 80% of the burden because they account for 80% of world population.

Emissions From Developing Nations

The Pew Research Center released its latest poll of public attitudes on global warming which shows that popular belief that global warming is occurring had declined from 71 percent in April of 2008 to 56 percent in October — an astonishing drop in just 18 months. The belief that global warming is caused by human activities declined from 47 percent to 36 percent. This proves that three years after it seemed that An Inconvenient Truth had changed everything, it turns out that it hasn’t. The current Pew survey is the latest in a series of studies suggesting that Al Gore probably had a good deal more effect upon elite opinion than public opinion.

However with the need for use of cleaner and greener energy, the problem for more than half of the world’s population remains access to basic sanitation and safe drinking water. The biggest vulnerability is that the weather gravely affects developing countries’ main economic activities such as farming and tourism. In India the gains from the Green Revolution are already shrinking because of local pollution, global warming and waning resistance to pests and disease. A study for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology also suggests that the yields of the main Indian crops would decline by a further 4.5-9% over the next 30 years because of climate change. A recent assessment based on a large number of studies of what might happen in the long run if carbon continues to be pumped into the atmosphere found that world farm production could fall by 16% by the 2080s, and possibly by as much as 21% in developing countries. There is not much doubt that climate change is undermining the gains from intensive farming in developing countries at the very time when population growth and greater wealth mean the world will need to double food production over the next three or four decades. By 2050 the world will have to feed 2 billion to 3 billion more people and cope with the changing diets of a richer population.

Poor countries want around $140 billion to keep global warming down to an increase of 2°C dwarfing the $8 billion a year now flowing to them for climate-change mitigation. Also, poor countries see a climate-change deal in fundamentally different terms as they believe that rich countries are responsible for two-thirds of the carbon put into the atmosphere since 1850. Therefore they think emissions per head and not absolute emissions should be the standard. Moreover, targets set at national level have little effect in poor countries where public administration works badly. So rich and poor also disagree about the conditions attached to any money for mitigating or adapting to climate change. The rich see this as a sort of aid designed for specific projects with measurable targets requiring strict conditions. Therefore there remains to be seen what kind of solution comes out of the meeting in Copenhagen. But whatever be the shape of the final agreement, it is time for developing countries to develop as keen an interest in mitigating the impact of climate change as rich ones. Climate-change policy is no longer a simple choice between growth and ecological well-being.

Hey guys, lately there’s been so much talk about what makes a person sexy. Should you believe all the hype? Let’s face it; we live in a visual world that is highly controlled by major media outlets like, reality television, music videos, magazines, newspapers, and fashion designers. They all have a huge influence on nearly every aspect of our lives, everything from what we eat, wear, where we live, who we should or shouldn’t date, and what our bodies should or shouldn’t look like.

Yet today the million dollar question still remains, “What is Sexy; is it truly in eye of the bolder, or is it in the hands of the money makers? Can we honestly make unfiltered individual choices about what sexy is and what it really means?

Many media outlet say it’s all about image and having the perfect package. Their emphasis and primary focus usually caters to what’s current, young, and hot! So I ask do we no longer need to be able to think for ourselves. Or have our media outlets taken complete control over what we think sexy should be.

Well, maybe this is a question you might have to decide for yourself. However, here’s a list that I’ve composed of what some adults are saying, “What they think is Sexy.” The results just might surprise you.

Yet the big question here is how many of their answers are similar to your own, and if not, will they rub off? Will it make you think about your own life, or will you just go with the flow and let society/media dictate what it means to you. How can you Develop Your Own Sexiness?

What is Sexy?

Sexy is natural, being yourself.
Sexy is having a nice swagger/walk.
Stronger enough for man but made for a woman.

Sexy is working with what you have.
Sex is an independent woman or man.
Sexy is confidence; having a good attitude.
Sexy is dressing well.
Sexy is a stimulation conversation.

Sexy is flirtatious & fun
Sexy is fore play.
Sexy is sweet and submissive.

Now, What’s Your Definition? Please share!

Exercise and acne, is there a connection? I am sure you will agree, that is an interesting thought.

Exercise and acne, is there a connection? I am sure you will agree, that is an interesting thought. It is also quite a hotly debated subject.

Well, let us try to find out and see what we come up with. On the one hand, the workout that you have chosen to go through is likely to make your skin sweaty and greasy. Now that would be a perfect setting for acne to develop!

Acne and lifestyle in your hands. On the other hand, if you consider the option of turning into a couch potato with your attention centered on the television set, that does not look like a particularly healthy choice, does it? There has been a fair amount of research to try and establish the effect of exercise on acne. The results of one such study conducted fairly recently seemed to suggest that there could be individual variations in the extent to which acne is affected by exercise.

A study carried out on two groups of participants, one that went through an exercise routine and another that did not, and did not find any significant connection between exercise and breakouts of acne. However, since this is still a disputed subject, you could play safe by ensuring that you minimize the likelihood of developing acne through exercise.

Acne, putting you in a spot? Possibly you have begun to feel that this is a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea if you do not exercise, you have an unhealthy lifestyle; if you do, you run the risk of developing acne because of the very activity that you have taken up to improve your health.

Well, whichever of these theories turns out to be the right one, you can certainly take steps to avoid putting yourself at risk of developing acne. That will not take a whole lot of doing. You just need to follow a few simple rules:

Fight acne keep your hair away from your face. The sweat and grease that is built up after exercise can affect your hair and scalp as well and may run down onto your face. This will be further aggravated by any hair care product you may have used such as hair spray etc.

Take steps to ensure that your hair does not touch your face and neck while you are exercising; this will at least give you a head start in cutting down the chances of developing acne through exercise, if indeed it can happen at all.

Select your exercise equipment carefully because it could give you acne. Try to avoid using exercise equipment that rubs against your skin, as there is some evidence that this kind of friction could encourage acne to develop. Then again, particularly if you are working out in a public place such as a gym, do ensure that the equipment you are using is clean.

In a situation where the same equipment is being used by several people, you are open to the risk of picking up germs left by other people.

Keep your clothing light for workouts unless you want acne. Make sure that the clothes you wear when you are working out are light, loose and comfortable. This again will avert the possibility of friction with the skin and allow the skin to breathe. Tight clothing will cause unnecessary problems, even if it does not actually contribute to your developing acne.

Shower as soon as possible in order reduce the risk of developing acne. Do this for the sake of your own health and well being, but also for the sake of anyone else who may be with you. Keeping your skin clean is surely one of the basic rules you must observe for general well being. Dry your skin carefully after showering and avoid rubbing vigorously

Keep your sportswear and linen clean to stay clear of acne. Remember that you should take care to keep the clothes you use for your workouts clean. This is particularly important in the case of headbands and wristbands, which accumulate a great deal of perspiration. Take care to use clean towels as well.

Use oil free products to treat your acne. If you have chosen to use a sunscreen, make sure it does not have an oil base. That will be one sure way of setting the stage for acne to develop once you have finished your workout, as there will be plenty of grease and perspiration on your skin by then.

Exercise can help your acne. Lastly, exercise can in fact have a positive effect on your acne by cutting down the effects of stress and simply making you feel good. When you build up stress, certain hormones are released into the skin, increasing the likelihood of your developing acne.

So, if you had any doubts, remember that exercise is good for you, and ultimately, it will be good for your acne as well, as long as you observe the basic rules of health and hygiene. If you are an exercise freak and have also broken out with acne, keep plugging away and you will see the difference!!

Muhammad Salih Al-Munajjid | Language: English | Format: PDF | Pages: 44 | Size: 1 MB
Salaah is the greatest of the practical pillars of Islam, and khushoo’ in prayer is required by sharee’ah. When Iblees, the enemy of Allaah, vowed to mislead and tempt the sons of Adam and said “Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left…” [al-A’raaf 7:17, interpretation of the meaning], one of his most significant plots became to divert people from salaah by all possible means and to whisper to them during their prayer so as to deprive them of the joy of this worship and cause them to lose the reward for it. As khushoo’ will be the first thing to disappear from the earth, and we are living in the last times, the words of Hudhayfah (may Allaah be pleased with him) are particularly pertinent to us: “The first thing of your religion that you will lose is khushoo’, and the last thing that you will lose of your religion is salaah. There may be a person praying who has no goodness in him, and soon you will enter the mosque and not find anyone who has khushoo’.” (al-Madaarij, 1/521).

Because of what every person knows about himself, and because of the complaints that one hears from many people about waswaas (insinuating thoughts from Shaytaan) during the salaah and the loss of khushoo’, the need for some discussion of this matter is quite obvious. The following is a reminder to myself and to my Muslim brothers, and I ask Allaah to make it of benefit.

This book talks about on how to develop Khushoo in prayers, rulings on Khushoo, the means of developing Khushoo, knowing the advantages of Khushoo in prayers and etc.

As Christmas eve closes in and the days get darker we should bear in mind that we will be buying presents made by the less fortunate for yet another year. When is our endless needs, wants and consuming going to wake up to the fact that from happyiness comes others sadness.

Will we be able to live with ourselves after giving some thought and research into the lives of those responsible for gaining the raw materials needed for us to give a present or gratefully receive one? Or how about a thought for the 9 year old who s had their childhood stolen whilst slaving in a dangerous factory for 16 hours in a day…….everyday. Do they ever get to receive a present? Or perhaps they deserve to be playing with one of the toys they make every day rather then sweating over them with tears of labour and sadness.

I would like to know when we, myself included are going to equal the balance rather then just live off the 3rd and developing world as if she owed us something.

Thinking of the positive actions we can take this year I come forward with the following advice for providing oneself a good nights sleep and the true spirit of Christmas Time.

Purchase your family and friends some fresh water for perhaps just one of the thousands that urgently need. Sponcer your friends and family a part of a rainforest while its still there to do this with. Adopt a child with a monthly donaton or perhaps even an animal.

If all else fails, make a present, use your hands and yor heart, recycle something. As corney as it may sounds a handmade present shows the love you have for the reciever far greater then the gift bought with MADE IN CHINA on the label……….

Love, share and show your care this xmas, be kind not blind

I use to love to spend hours and hours in the darkroom. The smell of D-76 was always so captivating. I would experiment with Acufine, Rodinal and Microdol X film developers. Ilford FP4 was my favorite film…I would process it in D-76 1:1 at 68 degrees for 8.5 minutes and produce really beautiful B/W negatives. I was infatuated with high contrast images so Kodalith was always in my inventory of film. Leicalady and I would spend hours teaching darkroom classes to aspiring hobbyists. I would print on everything from a Beseler 23c-II XL to an Omega D-5 with a cold light head. I remember when RC paper was first introduced by Kodak in 1974.This eliminated a lengthy phase of the already tedious process. One no longer needed an expensive paper dryer to achieve high gloss prints! My gosh times have changed…Daddy Bub is smiling and loving every minute of our shared joy of photography.

Old school...

I honestly cannot remember the last roll of film I shot. Leicalady and I will eventually have another darkroom to share our love of printing with our grandkids. (If that EVER happens) We have been digital ever since our first digital camera, the Leica Digilux I. The learning curve was challenging at first but we were diligent and finally are confident in our digital abilities. (however, we continue to learn) I have recently been enamored with HDR (High Dynamic Range) images. It provides luminances between the lightest and darkest areas of an image that standard digital imaging techniques or photographic methods cannot produce. This wider dynamic range allows HDR images to represent more accurately the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to faint starlight. I have been experimenting with Photomatix Pro software the last few days and am quickly discovering an excitement that I have not felt since my days in the darkroom. The following images represent my first attempts at generating the HDR effect. It will continue to be a work in progress…

well, I finally developed a film which I exposed long-long ago, about 2-3 months ago. I accidentally exposed it as iso100, and then, while taking it out of the camera, I came to know that it was iso400. it’s not a big problem, but, anyway, I put it away for a long time, and yesterday decided, that time has come.

so I developed it as iso160 and got a really good result! there is only one issue – contrast. it changes from shot to shot and I really cannot understand why. but, anyway, shots are gorgeous.

To make the application configurable, so one can avoid to rewrite and recompile is to use App.Config

To make the application configurable, so one can avoid to rewrite and recompile is to use App.Config.

<Configuration>
<appSettings>
    <add key = "MySetting" value="1223"/>
</appSettings>
</Configuration>

To access this – add an reference to System.Configuration and then in the code write

string x = System.Configuration.ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings.Get("MySetting")

Now, this is a little long to write, if it is to be used in many places. The solution is to encapsulate it in a static class.

A static class is a class that don´t needs to be instanciated. The values of the properties are set at start, and cannot be changed. Perfect for config-settings.

using System;
using System.Configuration;

namespace Something
{
public static class AppResources
{
public static string MySetting =  System.Configuration.ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings.Get( "MySetting" );
}
}

No need for set or get here.

And it is used like this:

string x = AppResources.MySetting;

And no () after the property name, of course.
