A banda praticamente é a mesma do último trabalho, Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon, e novamente conta com a participação de Rodrigo Amarante.

You might did already notice that there were various post about Devendra Banhart lately. To be honest, I only like his first album, so far, but I’m definitely going to check out his new one, when I have time. I’ll put it on my -things-to-listen-to-list-, which is pretty big at the moment. Anyway, this time, Devendra talks to Spinner. Do I like the interview? yes, but it didn’t tell me something new.

Yep, some news about Devendra Banhart, again (early update here). I’m not obsessed with him or something!

The countdown for What Will We Be started. And because of his new album, Devendra’s going to tour again, USA and Europe. I hope to catch him up december 4, but it will be difficult to get some space around that time. Check for tour dates on his website(when it’s working), myspace or last.fm, or of course your local venues site ^^,

So Devendra’s got a new album up. Pretty awesome right?! I really do like Devendra’s ‘early’(Nino Rojo and Rejoicing in the Hands) stuff. So, what’s up with this new album?

Well, you see the album art below. The 14-song album will be released on his new label; Warner Music. It’s named ‘What Will We Be’. The release date is set for October 27, so that’s about 2/3 weeks!
Devendra Banhart’s sixth album was co-produced by mr. Banhart himself and by Band of Bees’ Paul Butler. Devendra’s also backed by friends such as Noah Georgeson, Megapuss Greg Rogove on drums, bassist Luckey Remington and guitar Rodrgio Amarante (names that were also related to the new Adam Green).

O novo disco do Devendra Banhart, What will we be, vai sair no dia 27 do próximo mês.

O disco é o primeiro do cantor com sua nova gravadora, ele largou os selos independentes e assinou um contrato com a Warner.O cantor andou reclamando por aí de sua antiga gravadora, e quando perguntado o porquê de ele estar fazendo o oposto da maioria do mundo da música e saindo de um selo indie e indo para uma major, ele respondeu ao Pitchfork:

“I’m going with Warners because the majors have been humbled by this giant gaping hole in their finances. The internet and file sharing has shocked them into a weird reality. I met with Warners and they treated me like an indie; I met with a couple indies and they talked to me like a major.”

Pois é, o cantor hippie tem muito mais visão de negócio do que parece mostrar.Mas ele completa:

“  When I imagine meeting with a major, I think of a fat white guy with a cigar, like [hokey voice], “We’re going to have you play at the Holiday Inn! Red Bull sponsorships! We’re gonna make you a star, kid.” And the indies being like [calming voice] “Yeah, man, whatever you want, no contracts.” But it was the complete opposite”

O disco tem 14 faixas e participação de vários músicos, entre eles o grande Amarante.Ele só sai no próximo mês, mas já faz um tempo que o Banhart vem dando palinhas do que vem por aí em seus shows.  Você já pode ver lá no You Tube as músicas ‘Chin Chin & Muck Muck’ e ‘Baby’, que estão no novo albúm que .A música Baby é uma graça, veja o vídeo.

Obs: o som não está muito bom, este aqui está melhor, mas eu não aguento todo o contexto palmeiras, chapéu panamá e shorts hipster desse vídeo!

Cibelle é uma cantora paulistana radicada em Londres desde a década de 90. Lançada lá fora sob o mesmo selo de Bebel Gilberto, à primeira audição pode até parecer mais uma da turma do sussurro, mas, de cara, já é possível perceber um senso de aventura e experimentalismo que não se encontra em Bebel, nem em qualquer outra cantora brasileira da mesma geração.

A nítida influência da bossa-nova, em especial do maestro Tom Jobim, as colagens que lembram o tropicalismo de Caetano e a batida eletrônica da lounge music fazem do trabalho de Cibelle algo único na música moderna.

No youtube encontrei uma música que ela canta com o Devendra Banhart, chama-se “London, London” que por sinal ficou muito boa.

And even more. The World is waiting… for Davendra Banharts newest album soon to come out. This guy rocks and we still have to hang on to Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon with its frantic “Carmensita”. Damn!

The mystical love-child of the nu-folk movement, Devendra Banhart exerts an inexplicable pull on the music world. People that don’t like folk, like Devendra Banhart. People who think long-haired hippies belong in the sixties, like Devendra Banhart. People who think singer/songwriters belong in Room 101, still lap up anything by this free-spirited folkster.

So it’s with a degree of trepidation that I approach his new album. Are my critical sensitivities going to stand firm, could I dare to criticise the international pin-up of the folk scene? Thankfully, I don’t have serious cause to. Yes, it’s slightly over-long – weighing in at a weighty 16 tracks – but Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon is his most sophisticated, sprawling work so far.

Recorded late at night in the hills of hippy Californian haven, Topanga, it’s infused with caffeine-fuelled nocturnal energy. Banhart dances from genre to genre, lingering long enough to record the odd ten minute epic and then skipping off again through reggae, rock, jazz and Latino rhythms. His distinctive, lilting growl guiding you through to this entrancing musical jumble.

Reference points abound – there’s a nod to his Venezuelan roots on the lush, tropical sounding “Samba Vexillographica”, a dash of 50s doo-wop with a Jewish twist on “Shabop Shalom”… (read the complete review here)

I Feel Like a Child – Devendra Banhart

A paulistana Cibelle Cavali (nome conhecido lá fora, aqui nem tanto) está levando só elogios na sua turnê pela Inglaterra. E está enchendo os palcos também. Após um show lotado no Buffalo Bars, conhecido reduto indie londrino, levou cinco estrelinhas (por sua perfomance ao vivo) de Chris Earls, crítico engomadinho e enjoado do AllGigs. “To describe her voice and performance style it would be somewhere between Nina Simone and Bjork with some of her work sounding from the deep south and others confusingly from another planet”.
