No podía faltar en este blog la banda, también californiana, The Offspring.  Actualmente está integrada por Dexter Holland (cantante y guitarra),  Noodles (guitarra principal y guitarra rítmica) ,  Greg K (bajo),  Pete Parada (batería)  y Josh Freese (batería pero en el estudio).

Son conocidos por su música punk rock, aunque no se han mantenido siempre en el mismo registro, puesto que han pasado por el pop-rock, rock alternativo y hardcore melódico, éste último en los albores de la banda.
Cómo muchos sabréis, junto a otros grupos como Green Day, Rancid o Blink 182, han logrado  resurgir el punk-rock de los noventa tras unos años de decadencia. Y es que las mejores bandas no mueren, tal y como dijo un día Dexter Holland en una de sus entrevistas “Las grandes bandas no mueren…”

A lo largo de toda su discografía han logrado vender más de 45 millones de discos, colocándose en muchos países en el TOP-ten. Y es que a pesar de los años, Offspring sigue metiéndose en el bolsillo a un público tanto joven como adulto.
Con un total de ocho discos, The Offspring se prepara para lanzar en breves su último disco. Se estima que será para primeros del 2010 pero más adelante os confirmaremos con más detalles y ofreceremos algún adelanto sobre ese nuevo lanzamiento con novedades sólo alcanzables para los seguidores de este blog.

A lo largo de estos años, la banda ha tenido dos personas como cabeza de grupo, dos vocalistas. El primero de ellos se llamaba Doug Thompson. Sólo estuvo en el primer disco en el año 1984. La banda para entonces estaba consagrada bajo el nombre de Manic Subsidal. Y ya fue Dexter Holland quien cogió el relevo hasta ahora, y con un montón de éxitos y premios a su espalda. Sitting at a loud bar with a few close friends, one may encounter such an unfortunate impasse as I did just last night. Sipping on mediocre margaritas whose taste was enhanced only by their two dollar price tag, a friend and I heard a familiar beat coming from the speakers; bass kick on one and three, hi-hat hits on the upbeats. A disco beat, to all those familiar with it.

“Fuck man, its that new Against Me! song. Effin’ hate this thing.”

“Huh? Nah, its the Offspring. I’ve been hearing it for 6 months.”

“I can’t hear it all that well but I’m pretty sure its Against Me!”

It was Against Me! (A victory, kaduz!), but that fact was of infinitesimal importance compared to my ensuing realization; it didn’t matter. Both songs are abominations flung in the face of previously great bands, and both sound the same, tainted by dance beats that have no place in their music. Its a half-assed fabrication of a bands own sound, made by that very band. It’s like if Matisse had faked his own death; thinking he’s dead, the public would no longer buy his originals, and instead he had to make forgeries of his own work  to earn a living. And earn he did.

Now granted, many can simply call out that one can’t mourn the loss of either of these bands –”they’ve been gone for years,” “any punk band is by nature prepackaged as dead,” etc., but something about these two songs strikes even more painful. Here are the external links to each song, as putting them here would be prohibitively untidy.

Somehow that just seems even more irritating as a caption, doesn’t it?

The disco beat in itself is such a ‘let’s be dancy’ cop-out that it in itself is disdainful; its like all those white boys who play a blues progression and assume they’re ‘in-genre’. [If you love authentic blues, you'll love BLUES HAMMER]. Compound that with the fact that the Offspring now sounds like the bands that they are touring with, and you’ve gotten yourself a problem. Notice the keyboard addition and vocal production on “You’ll Go Far”  and compare that with recent Alkaline Trio work. Its the exact same.

Normally a fan could write this off and say, “It’s a bad song. If you’re a fan, you’ll get over it”. But hearing The Offspring live from anywhere-less-than-17-blocks-away-from-Stubbs, I couldn’t even recognize any of their songs. Not due to the sound quality, but because they added in keyboard and vocal effects into every one of their old songs, killing the band’s entire discography.

Make your bad songs, get your sweet sweet money, but at least play a decent live show for everyone who is even still enough of a fan to say “I like the Offspring BUT…” (The people who say that phrase without the caveat don’t exist, by the way.)

That in itself is a feat, and as one of those people, a letter is hereby sent out to the bands of the world; don’t slash and burn your past. Rancid still has sweet shows despite their inordinately subpar output, you can too.

And don’t name your album “Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace.” Your fall is regrettable and ‘Dexter Holland’s Grace’ sounds like a cologne I want my nose nowhere near. We all know that rebellious bands who find grace never work out.

Dammit.

American pop-punk is good. Not the Good Charlotte kind, but more like, say, Offspring, blink182, old Green Day…TAT fit into this mould perfectly, with three surprising alterations.

1) They’re from London.

2) The lead singer is female

3) She’s better looking, and just as talented, as Dexter Holland, Tom DeLonge and Billie Joe Armstrong. Tatiana DeMaria is her name, and she’s the driving force, lead guitarist and main selling point of Tat.

I saw them supporting the Bouncing Souls back in 2007 (I think, I have intermittent alcohol induced amnesia) and their energy on stage, their crowd interaction and, importantly, their music, really got me interested. So did she, but I’ll shut up about her now. Their performances at the Warped Tour over the last couple of years have earned them recognition and anticipation for this album.

In spite of Bam Margera’s criticism of the Warped Tour (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9KGyP3zEqA&feature=fvw), I speak for many in the UK who wish we had a version of it. I love pop-punk, I mean, I love punk more, but still, I wish I had a chance to see the Warped Tour, especially if there are similar acts to Tat there year on year.

The album opens with the leading single, Road To Paradise, a catchy fuck-sensibility song, and a good choice for a leading single due to the fact large sections of the album are better – it’s a great preview. Other songs stand out too – the lyrics for Pessimist are like having a female written NoFX song, for instance, and the music’s not bad either. Tatiana can shred a guitar like the most energetic of pop-punk guitarists, refusing to be drawn into distinctions about being good “for a girl,” getting irate in the Road To Paradise video that people assume girls suck at everything [insert innuendo here...in your endo.]

Some songs though, are pretty generic. Everything I Want wouldn’t be out of place on a more standard, samey album, from, say, New Found Glory or Bowling For Soup or, erm, Good Charlotte, and Taking It All just doesn’t do anything for me. Some songs do seem more like filler, which on an album that only just pushes past 45 minutes is a bit worrying.

However – the album does start and end well. Sandra Dee shows a more vulnerable, confident style of writing, and Take You Home would be right at home on Punk O Rama, if it was still going and hadn’t become bastardised by Bret Gurewitz’s selling out to emo wankpots like Matchbook Romance.

For a first album from a young band who forged their reputation on their live performances, this is a promising start. It encapsulates their live energy, and if you just want lively, feel-good pop-punk – yes, I’ll reluctantly draw the comparison – in a similar vein to Paramore, Tat are worth a look.

If they ever come back to tour in the UK, I will be there with bells on. For the music, obviously!

O Offspring é uma galera que veio da califórnia, da cidade de Huntington Beach e desde 1984 nunca perderam seu super punk rock, inspirados em bandas com Bad Religon, Dead Kennedy’s, Ramones, Socia Distortion e Sex Pistols. O som da banda tem bem essa pegada punk mesmo, muito rápido e barulhento, no bom sentido é claro, é uma ótima trilha sonora para quem gosta de adrenalina, da até vontade de quebrar um braço com a música dos caras ou você pode entrar em uma roda punk e dividir da sua empolgação com seus amiguinhos…ou não muito amiguinhos. =)

A banda atingiu um sucesso absurdo com a canção Pretty Fly ( for a White Guy ), lançada no Americana, álbum da banda em 1998, o sucesso foi tremendo que a música se tornou a mais baixada em mp3 da história, 22 milhões…, EU DISSE 22 Milhões ( esse merece “M” maiúsculo ) de downloads em 10 semanas, também a música mais pirateada hehehehe…

NotleyQue BBQ Catering has had the incredible fortune of catering some pretty fun events this year.  Once again I find myself pinching my arm to see if I was dreaming.  When I started barbecuing years ago all I wanted to do was make great tasting ribs.  Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be serving the food that I created, to the bands I love to listen to.  And in turn have them become fans of me.  Here is my latest adventure in barbecue.

This past week, I had the great honor to provide the pre-show dinner for the punk rock legends The Offspring for their home town show in Irvine, California.   I work with Gringo Bandito Hot sauce (www.gringobandito.com) at my BBQ contests, promoting their product like crazy, and Dexter Holland (The Offspring vocals/founding member) had tried my food before when I brought the Gringo Bandito office BBQ one visit.   Dexter is the creator of the Gringo Bandito Hot Sauce.

The menu was basic, cook for about 60 people.  Pulled Pork, Pork Ribs, and Strube Ranch Wagyu Brisket (www.struberanch.com), along with my BBQ  Beans, Coleslaw, and Hawaiian sweet rolls.   It was a very stress free cook, that went perfect.  I think it was the best pork I had ever cooked, and the Strube Ranch Wagyubriskets cook so beautifully.   I wanted to have a cooker on site for a “show and smell” effect, but my first choice Chris Rocke from www.ranchorocke.com was unavailable, so Mike Wilkins from the Smoke Peddlers stepped in on short notice and showed up with his Lang.

We arrived at the venue at about 230 and set up shop.   We were right behind the stage, set up beside a large covered deck.  We set up the smoker just yards away from where the massive tour buses were parked.   I just love the tour buses bands use. So big and beautiful to look at.  Minutes after the smoker was fired up, people were coming off the buses to see what was up.  Paul Rucker, drummer from the band The Street Dogs, really had an interest in what we were doing, and hung out with us for a bit, asking BBQ questions and said he enjoys cooking on his tiny Weber.  Made me happy he wasn’t a gasser, and knew about real BBQ.  .  He was really nice to hang out with.   The crew and band members knew they were in for some good catering that evening.   The smell of wood mixed with meat and spices is hard to ignore.

The area were were given to host our BBQ was a large deck, right next to the usual catering being offered by the venue.   The BBQ was a special treat for the hometown show, and we had a whole area to ourselves.   I wish I would have had tables and chairs to fill out the room.  Next time I will have that.  Each event is a lesson learned.  Even though it wasn’t required, it would have been nice.  Set up went pretty quick, but by the time we got finished, it was just minutes before  5 oclock dinner bell.    There is nothing better than having the freshest BBQ, made with the finest meats,  and freshly made sides served to your guests to show them that BBQ can be a classy meal.  We had a steady stream of people the whole evening.  We finally shut down at 8:30 and fed everyone, the band, the opening bands, the crew, the limo drivers, the security guards.   The little bit of leftovers were traded to the show ‘runner” for a few beers.  BBQ for Beer, what a great trade.

It was a great event, we fed a bunch of hungry people who loved the food, made quite a few of them laugh, met some great people, and got to enjoy a great concert by a great band.   Thanks to Matt, and Kristen from Gringo Bandito, Mike Wilkins from The Smoke Peddlers, Dexter, Brian, and Scottie from The Offspring, Paul Rucker from The Street Dogs (again thanks for the shirts) .  I hope to see and work with you all again soon.  Thanks for the great time.

How can one tell when a punk band is no longer relevant? One sign could be when its frontman comes out with a line of hot sauce.

The Offspring have long been labeled sellouts dating back to their breakout album Smash. And last year’s unambitious Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace did nothing to restore the band to its Ignition days.

However, a blog post on the L.A. Times’ website reports that Offspring lead singer and guitarist Dexter Holland has developed a brand of hot sauce called Gringo Bandito, which is being sold throughout Southern California and Las Vegas.  

While Holland, who is a pilot and USC graduate, isn’t your typical rock star, I can’t see Sid Vicious shilling hot sauce.

There are a lot of musicians out there who throw their names behind some product, such as Kid Rock’s beer and cigars, Britney Spears perfume and Willie Nelson’s bourbon. All of these seem somewhat appropriate.

I trust that ol’ Willie knows his Whiskey, but when it comes to dousing my burritos in hot sauce I don’t want the guy who sang LAPD staring back at me from the bottle.

But wait, the Aquabats love it so it must be good.

On Holland’s website, gringobandito.com, under “testimonials” the Aquabats are quoted as saying, “Gringo Bandito drops more mad flavor than Flavor Flav.”

Well I’m sold. 

Perhaps if Holland, who the blog describes as a “renaissance man” (a word never to be associated with anything punk rock), should focus on learning some new power chords and leave the hot sauces to Alice Cooper.  

Regarding music news, The Offspring just released its music video for its song “Kristy are you doing okay?” from Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace.

The video features Holland playing an acoustic guitar and cuts between images of notes on a wall and a girl, presumably “Kristy,” in high school. Green Day has done this sort of thing already, and it did it much better.

When I was 15, I wore an Offspring t-shirt. An overweight friend I found insufferable wore a Green Day Hoodie. Such was the divide in mainstream punk music in 2001.

The Offspring were the first band I ever saw live, and before I discovered Bad Religion, they were the group to speak to me about intelligent rebellion and social dissent. Green Day on the other hand just seemed to be about smoking pot and being snotty. Fast forward to 2004, and punk gets invigorated by American presidents and foreign policy. Green Day put it more eloquently than everyone else (or at least get there first) and release American Idiot, a masterpiece which revitalises their flailing career and makes them the biggest band in the world. Offspring release Splinter, which is shit, and flail more rapidly.

Although American Idiot is one of my favourite albums, I still resent Green Day for releasing it before The Offspring could. In my opinion, that spotlight belonged to my t-shirt, not the fat friend’s hoodie. Now the fuck Bush vibe has subsided, we have a more complicated political situation for a punk band to respond to, and with the pending release of this album I played a power chord in memory of that gig at Milton Keynes Bowl, and hoped that The Offspring were ready to step up to where they belonged.

Here’s the deal: part of this album is near the best stuff The Offspring have recorded in years, part certainly isn’t, and all of it sounds far too familiar. Opener ‘Half-Truism’ has weight and a great chorus: ‘If we don’t make it alive, it’s a hell of a good day to die.’ Sadly, the format is borrowed from something The Used or My Chemical Romance would have released back in sodding 2004. Likewise, ‘Trust in You’ tears it up in style, but it’s a reworking of the title track of 1994’s Smash. Two fantastic songs, but they come with déjà vu.

In anticipation of this album, the band commented that each of their albums was relevant to punk music at the time, and this one would be no different. ‘You’re Gonna Go Far Kid’ exemplifies this, by picking up the fashionable dance style of Panic at the Disco or Fall Out Boy. Just like ‘Half Truism’, it mimics the trend, but this time surpasses it with appropriate lyrics about personal manipulation and a caustic interpretation of a consumer formula. ‘Dance, fucker, dance.’ The wave continues with ‘Hammerhead’ which thematically draws the lines of similarity between warmongering and school shootings with a machine gun riff, and then ‘A lot Like Me’ which is elegantly vicious. If only it was all this good.

A lot of fans have been blaming producer Bob Rock for ruining the rest by suggesting a more mainstream approach. Because what does mainstream punk sound like at the moment? Yes, it sounds like Green Day. ‘Nothingtown’ uses a bouncy bass line that certainly sounds borrowed, and ‘Rise and Fall’ is essentially the doppelganger for American Idiot’s eponymous title track, with an almost identical riff, structure, solo, and chorus. I really don’t understand what would motivate The Offspring to do this? The double really is the harbinger of death, as it taints the entire album as a weak substitute for something too iconic to modify, and too driven by a former zeitgeist to imitate. Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace is nothing but an anachronism. Fat kid- 1, me- 0.

There are some other solid songs here, which are a massive improvement over Splinter, but the album’s vital presentation error leaves it as an unexciting package (even the cover art is similar to American Idiot). The only time that The Offspring take a step forward is with ‘Stuff is Messed Up’, a juvenile sounding tune with the kind of sarcastic la-la-la chorus that The Offspring do better than anyone else. The lyrics are simple but acute; not everyone has grandiose rock opera perceptions of politics, some people just know that shit is fucked. Plus, it gets full bonus points for being the first song I’ve ever heard to incorporate ‘lol’ into the lyrics.

Although this is The Offspring’s replica of American Idiot, it isn’t their Magnum Opus. If they want that, they have to remember how to set the trends and not just follow them, although occasional mockery is fine by me. On the other hand, maybe those days never actually existed? Perhaps there’s some wisdom in their rip off’s lyrics after all: ‘This time you’re really dead. Once followed, but always led, you thought you’d rise above it all. It’s all inside your head, all ripping it up in shreds, I know some day you’re gonna fall.’ One can’t help think of their album Smash, which set the standard in 1994 alongside Green Day’s Dookie as well as numerous other punk albums which all sounded very similar. I guess it’s just their genre. Let’s assume they’re still doing their own thing because they’ve been around long enough to take the piss. We’ll think of my t-shirt and the lyrics to ‘Smash’: ’I’m not a trendy asshole, do what I want, do what I feel like…’

Já que outro dia eu mencionei os shows que eu não abrilhantaria com a minha ilustre presença neste final de ano e depois postei sobre os shows que ninguém verá em território nacional, acho um bom momento pra comentar as coisas que quero ver e verei:

Não que eu seja a pessoa mais alucinada pelo Michael Stipe e sua trupe pra me deslocar até outro estado para vê-los (mesmo porque eu já os assisti em 2001, no Rio), mas considerando que estarei na minha terra natal tratando de compromissos pessoais, justamente na data, achei que era uma boa oportunidade. Depois, dia 10, vejo aqui, novamente, num patrocínio de Ogilvy e Laila Castro.

Esse ainda estou ponderando, mas se no calor do momento der vontade, acho que até vou. Eu gostava deles até o Ixnay on the hombre, e com todos meus 17 anos, ouvir Dexter Holland era pura rebeldia!

Já que quando eles tocaram na BEIRA DA PRAIA EM CAPÃO DA CANOA, naquele estranho festival organizado pela M2000* (um tênis que todo sujeito de mais de 25 anos deve ter usado quando era mais jovem), o M2000 Summer Concerts, em 1994, eu tinha 13 anos e mal sabia o que era o rock (mentira, eu gostava de Nirvana e Aerosmith, mas isso é um mero detalhe). Salve raga!!!qui sotto vi riporto altre due canzoni dell’ultimo album degli OFFSPRING, Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace. Come avevo già scritto precedentemente nell’altro post, questo album mi ha un po’ deluso perchè viste le premesse mi aspettavo qualcosa di più punk-rock, qualcosa di più energico, però a parte tre canzoni il resto è molto pop. In assoluto il punk-rock rimane il mio genere musicale preferito,  quello che più ho amato e apprezzato nel corso degli anni e in particolare quello prodotto dagli Offspring. Però come purtroppo accade in numerose band, col passare degli anni, i musicisti diventano più “anziani” quindi cambiano man mano le aspirazioni musicali e si tende sempre più a modificare la propria produzione in qualcosa di più commerciale. Comunque appena verranno in Italia farò di tutto per esserci, perchè cmq per me rappresentano qualcosa di importante, e spero che lì mi regalino quelle emozioni che la loro musica mi ha sempre dato!!! Cmq di questo loro ultimo lavoro ho apprezzato solo 3 canzoni: Hammerhead, (che vi ho proposto nel precedente post), Half-Truism e Trust in you (che vi propongo qui sotto). Come al solito fatemi sapere le vostre opinioni in merito. Alla prossima!!!! W il punk-rock!!!!!!!

A agenda de shows previstos para novembro continua cheia. A banda californiana The Offspring retorna ao Brasil para a turnê do novo cd Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace que foi lançado em junho de 2008. O álbum levou aproximadamente 5 anos para ser lançado e foi muito aguardado pelos fãs. Os primeiros singles desse novo trabalho são as músicas “Hammerhead” e “You´re Gonna Go Far, Kid“.

Dexter Holland e companhia vão fazer três apresentações em solos nacionais: São Paulo (8/11, Planeta Terra Festival), Belo Horizonte (9/11, Pop Rock Brasil Festival) e Rio de Janeiro. Sendo que este último ainda não está confirmado, porém, com data prevista para acontecer dia 6 de novembro no HSBC Arena.

O show vai rolar em novembro na capital de Minas Gerais, esta será a quarta vez do Offspring no Brasil. O grupo punk rock está em turnê de lançamento de seu novo álbum de inéditas, Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace.

Numa dessas vindas do Offspring ao Brasil eu assisti a um show deles em Curitiba, durante a tour do album Americana, foi bacana, o Dexter Holland canta muito mesmo!!! Lembro que a produção de palco foi legal, até rolou umas paradas meio teatrais, do tipo polícia pega ladrão, momento relax…e claro… pegada hardcore e hit atrás de hit, entre outras coisas…peguei a palheta do guitarrista Noodles (pena que eu perdi um tempo depois), mas beleza… foi legal da mesma forma, se puder…confira ao vivo!!!

Assista: “Can’t Repeat”

Estava eu lendo a revista “Super Interessante” edição de julho, encontrei uma matéria super interessante realmente, “Eles são mais inteligentes que você”, onde mostra que celebridades são muito mais do que imaginamos. Vejamos algumas:

· Brian May: guitarrista do Queen é doutor em astrofísica e publicou um livro sobre o big bang. Escreveu a tese “Velocidade Radial na Nuvem de Poeira Zodiacal”, recebeu três títulos honoris causa por prestar serviços às universidades de Exeter, Hetfordshire e John Moores de Liverpool. Em seu blog o musico deixa explicito sua paixão dividida entre shows e as descrições de noites fotografando estrelas, mas apesar de todo estudo e paixão pela física, ele trabalha em dobro, mas nunca trocaria seu cargo de guitarrista para uma vida de ócio.

· Ásia Carrera: Muitos a conhecem por suas curvas em filmes para adultos, protagonista de mais de 300 filmes pornôs, a atriz mostra que é mais que um pedaço de carne desejada por milhares, ela já tocou Bach, ama física quântica e passou horas estudando html só para montar sua própria página da web. Além de suas medidas muito conhecidas, o que ninguém sabe é que, esta mulher que quando jovem foi uma aluna brilhante, tem um QI de 15º pontos, que a fez entrar na tão desejada Mensa, a sociedade internacional que agrega pessoas com alto QI.

· Natalie Portman: que ela é linda e talentosa, todo mundo sabe, a rainha Amídala de Guerra nas Estrelas conseguiu o que 9 de cada 10 alunos almejam tanto nos Estados Unidos, entrar para Harvard. Apesar de começar a trabalhar no cinema muito jovem, com apenas 12 anos, Natalie conseguiu manter o anonimato para estudar em paz, chegou a pensar em deixar a profissão atriz para se dedicar somente aos estudos. Após terminar psicologia, publicou seu estudo sobre o processo de retenção de memória, e não satisfeita, no ano seguinte aproveitou as filmagens que foi fazer em Jerusalém para estudar antropologia da violência pela Universidade Hebraica. Ela se encontra fascinada pela nova profissão, mas irá tentar conciliar ambas as carreiras e ainda disse. A frase que ela disse ao jornal de New York foi o que mais me chamou a atenção: “Eu vou entrar na faculdade e não me importo se isso vai arruinar minha carreira. Prefiro ser inteligente que ser uma estrela do cinema.” Ela falou e disse tudo, e eu a apoio completamente, mesmo sendo sua fã.

· Dexter Holland: sabe o líder da banda The Offspring? Sim, ele é mestre em biologia molecular. Ele foi o melhor aluno do colégio, formou-se em biologia e fez mestrado em biologia molecular. Durante o mestrado, Dexter teve de dividir os estudos com os shows de punk rock, e aos poucos ele se afastou do estudo. Quem sabe ele ainda não escreva um livro sobre biologia molecular quando a banda acabar, como fez May. E pensar que todo mundo generaliza roqueiros como vândalos, bêbados, drogados e imprestáveis, só nesta matéria temos dois exemplos de que há muito mais entre uma guitarra e as festanças do que vocês possam imaginar.

Recomendo que leiam à matéria, alais a revista deste mês está repleta de matérias interessantíssimas, incluindo a da capa sobre Terapia.

Dopo ben cinque anni dal loro ultimo album Splinter, esce finalmente l’attesissimo ottavo album degli Offspring dal titolo Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace , disponibile già nei negozi a partire dal 17 Giugno. Ad anticipare il nuovo album c’è il singolo Hammerhead disponibile per il download gratuito sul sito ufficiale della band —>basta inserire il proprio indirzzo e-mail e scaricare il brano attraverso il link che verrà spedito alla casella di posta elettronica indicata. Essa segue la stessa modalità già effettuata in passato dalla band per far conoscere al pubblico il singolo Original Prankster dell’allora album Cospiracy of One. Il testo di Hammerhead parla in particolare delle sparatorie che avvengono dentro gli istituti scolastici. Per registrare quest’ultimo disco il gruppo ha lavorato negli studi di registrazione per oltre un anno; le basi della batteria vennero registrate in studio da Josh Freese, mentre Pete Parada sarà con la band durante i concerti. Ascoltando l’anteprima dell’album però posso dirvi con rammarico che gli Offspring continuano con la filosofia adottata in Splinter, ossia brani molto commerciali e abbandono ormai evidente del genere punk-rock che gli aveva contraddistinti negli anni precedenti, per dar spazio ad un genere che definirei  pop-rock orecchiabile.  Questo lo dico con molto rammarico perchè sono  un fan sfegatato degli Off e sentire da loro composte queste canzoni…beh la cosa mi rattrista molto!!Pensavo in un loro ritorno alle origini vedi Smash o Americana…però niente da fare! che dirvi…ascoltate l’album e fatemi sapere le vostre opinioni. Fatto sta che se verranno in Italia in tour io ci andrò…costi quel che costi, perchè alla fine sono sempre gli Offspring!!!!
