School is back in session, the pumpkin spice latte is back at Starbucks, and the weather is slightly more bearable. Fall will officially be here in Texas this Saturday the 22nd! Time to put away the seashells and neon colors, and make room for stunning golds and reds and pumpkins!

Flowers are a great way to bring the autumn season into your home. The color scheme for this time of year is what you would expect: reds, oranges, and yellows like the falling leaves; golds and copper to add a metallic touch to the colors of the leaves; and brown to mimic the changing trees. There are several great flowers to use in arrangements that will usher in the season into your home.

For example, the rust-colored Asiatic lilies in our “You’re Special Bouquet” almost look like fallen leaves off of a maple tree. The rich color pops through the orange lilies and creates a stunning Fall look.

Another great flower to use is the bi-colored Cherry Brandy rose. This yellow and red rose looks as if it is changing color with the season and no two roses share the same sunset coloring.

Burgundy mini carnations and butterscotch chrysanthemums again make for great fall arrangements. Don’t those names just make you think of autumn? The chrysanthemums almost look golden against the greens and burgundy carnations. Adding an orange and red ribbon creates a rustic look and feel to the arrangement.

Creating your own Fall-themed décor is easy once you’ve captured the color scheme of this time of year. We have an entire section of autumn arrangements on our website that will make it easy to bring Fall into your home or someone else’s. Also, like us on Facebook to keep up with everything we have going on this season.

We here at DFW Flowers think flowers are pretty great and should be celebrated. Apparently, plenty of people all over the world feel the same way! Every year, flower-centered festivals and parades are held around the world, from the U.S. to Europe to Asia. Here are our top 4 flower celebrations!

1. Bloemencorso Zundert, Zundert, Netherlands
While you may not be able to pronounce the name (which means Flower Parade of Zundert), this parade is the largest flower parade in the world boasting at least 7,500 citizens involved and up to 500,000 dahlia blooms per float. The parade was founded in 1936 and the majority of the floats are made from dahlia flowers. There is a contest for the best float and the entire town goes into frenzy over winning the prize.

2. The Jersey Battle of Flowers, Jersey, England
Started in 1902, this parade is the pride of Jersey with thousands of people participating and tourists flocking in from all over the world. The main flowers used are chrysanthemums, which are shipped in from the United Kingdom and Holland, and asters that are locally grown. 3. Rose Parade, Pasadena, California
Originally created as a marketing campaign to promote the “Mediterranean of the West” in 1890, The Rose Parade is now a widely recognized American event. With incredible floral floats, marching bands, and lots of people, this is truly a spectacular event.

4. Brussels’ Flower Carpet, Brussels’, Belgium
The first floral carpet of Brussels was created in 1971 on the Grand-Place by the landscape architect E. Stautemans. This beautiful carpet is made entirely of begonias, which are packed in with about 300 flowers per square meter. This prevents them from blowing away and allows them to create their own micro-climate that will help them last the week.

As you can see, flowers aren’t just for vases and gardens! There are many other flower festivals out there, where people are creating beautiful and spectacular displays with flowers. Maybe we should start our own… like us on Facebook and tell us what you think!

Who doesn’t love getting a bouquet of fresh flowers? They are beautiful to look at and smell wonderful! Did you know they have other benefits as well? Fresh flowers have more benefits than just decoration and winning points with your wife. They offer emotional and mental health benefits too!

Studies have been conducted on the effects of flowers and how they can impact a person’s mood. Rutgers University conducted a study on the emotional benefits of a person being exposed to fresh flowers. They found that those who had been given the flowers where happier and less stressed. Fresh flowers have shown to be anxiety reducers, their bright colors and cheeriness instantly brightening your day!

Researchers have also found that those who keep fresh flowers in their home have more energy and are more mentally stimulated. When people saw the flowers, especially in the morning, they showed more energy and productivity in work. Fresh flowers can also boost your creativity.

If flowers can have this kind of impact on you, imagine what they can do for others! Flowers symbolize sharing and invitation, so bringing them into your home will transcend that feeling to your guests. Whenever you play host to friends or family, having fresh flowers in the common areas and guest rooms will make them feel more comfortable.

If you’re stressed, looking for an energy boost, or have guests coming over, fresh flowers are a great and easy way to create a positive atmosphere for everyone! Come by our shop and pick out some flowers for your home or office!
