Dopo aver scoperto vita, morte e miracoli delle scarpe antinfortunistiche, mi sembra giusto entrare nel dettaglio sui modelli disponibili sul mercato per trovare la scarpa su misura per i vostri piedi!

In un mercato molto concorrenziale e con tanti competitors, abbiamo scelto le marche che si sono distinte per qualità, tecnologia e prezzo. Possiamo trovare scarpe di sicurezza da venti fino a cento euro ed ogni modello ha delle specifiche diverse.

A mio parere possiamo dividere le scarpe da lavoro in due gruppi : quelle da cantiere e per tutti i lavori più a rischio,   e quelle per lavori dove è richiesta una protezione ma dove il lavoro è fondamentalmente senza troppi rischi.

Una scarpa per muratore, carpentiere , ferraiolo o qualsiasi figura che lavori dentro un cantiere edile deve, innanzitutto, avere una protezione totale del piede con puntale e lamina antiperforazione.

Quindi certificazione S1P o S3 obbligatorie.  Solitamente un muratore o carpentiere cerca una scarpa robusta, con una suola affidabile e, dove necessario, una tomaia impermeabile (per l’inverno o se stà lavorando nelle fondamenta del cantiere dove c’è fango e acqua).

Solitamente queste scarpe hanno tutte una colorazione beige perchè  più adatte a mascherare  lo sporco di sabbia e cemento.

Questi sono solo alcuni esempi di scarpe indicate per lavori di cantiere. Tutte hanno puntale e lamina antiperforazione. Appoggiando il cursore sulle foto potete leggere il modello della scarpa.

Il cantiere però non è composto solo da carpentieri e muratori, e una parte importantissima del lavoro viene svolta da ferraioli, elettricisti, piastrellisti e tutti quei lavori di rifinitura che richiedono scarpe specifiche.

Ad esempio. Il posatore di pavimenti o il ferraiolo trascorre parecchio tempo con le ginocchia piegate e la scarpa è sottoposta ad una torsione continua. A questo punto una scarpa rigida con lamina di acciaio contribuisce solo ad affaticare il piede e a fine giornata saranno dolori!!!!

Le nuove scarpe con lamina antiperforazione in Kevlar risolvono brillantemente questo problema!!!!

A conferma di quanto affermato finora, abbiamo pesato le scarpe (nella taglia 42) su una bilancia digitale ed ecco i risultati :

La prova della bilancia non lascia dubbi. Le scarpe munite di puntali in composito (Goodyear) o alluminio (U-Power e Diadora) sono nettamente più leggere di una qualsiasi scarpa con puntale in acciaio (Cofra Nilo). La differenza di peso non è dettata solo dal puntale ma anche dalla lamina antiperforazione, che nelle due scarpe leggere è in Kevlar mentre nella Nilo è in acciaio.

Se la matematica non è un’opinione la scarpa Nilo pesa mediamente il 25% in più delle sorelle maggiori ultraleggere. Un vantaggio di non poco conto.

Questo test non vuole assolutamente screditare le scarpe tradizionali come la Nilo, che comunque rimangono le più vendute ed apprezzate per il loro rapporto qualità / prezzo.  Però questo ci fa capire come una scarpa non si possa acquistare solo per la sua estetica ma deve essere scelta per come è costruita dentro!!!

E dopo un mondo di scarpe color beige passiamo a tutti i mestieri che preferiscono una scarpa scura. Pensiamo al magazziniere, all’autista, alla guardia giurata e a tutti coloro che pur non facendo lavoro a rischio devono attraversare aree di produzione e quindi devono necessariamente avere una scarpa antinfortunistica ai piedi…possibilmente comoda e leggera!!!!

Dopo questa sfilata di modelli di colore scuro, passiamo ai modelli ultraleggeri e al confronto sulla bilancia!

Sul modello scuro si può sempre scegliere tra scarpe più leggere in S1P come la Diadora Glove o la Goodyear G3000 Blu e la U-Power Radial oppure scarpe più robuste ma pur sempre flessibili e leggere come la Diadora STONE e la Goodyear G3000 Nera S3.

Notare la differenza di peso tra scarpa S1P e S3. Nonostante entrambe abbiamo lamina e puntale ultraleggeri, la pelle di nabuk impermeabile della Goodyear aumenta il peso complessivo della scarpa, ma è un compromesso giusto pur di avere una scarpa comunque impermeabile. Altro dettaglio che non vi sarà sfuggito è il peso della Diadora Glove Telata. L’unica scarpa di tutto il catalogo che è scesa sotto il muro dei 500gr. Ha battuto anche se stessa visto che il modello scamosciato 100% pesa 530gr. Un risultato eccezionale direi!

Non fatevi spaventare dal peso di questa scarpa! Per le caratteristiche di questa COFRA Leader è fin troppo contenuto. Quando si cerca una scarpa alta in pelle fiore lucida, quindi impermeabile e robusta con una suola bidensità antiscivolo, adatta a qualsiasi condizione atmosferica, ringraziamo COFRA per aver sfornato questo prodotto! In conclusione, apro e chiudo una piccola parentesi. Se nel vostro lavoro vi capita  spesso di passare per controlli di metal detector perchè viaggiate in aereo o spesso andata in banca, avrete avuto pessime esperienze con le classiche scarpe antinfortunistiche con protezioni metalliche. Doversi togliere le scarpe per passare il metal detector non è il massimo della praticità. Anche gli elettricisti nel loro lavoro richiedono scarpe amagnetiche e senza parti metalliche. Ed ecco la soluzione con scarpe che usano puntali in composito (materiale plastico potenziato con fibra di vetro) e lamine in kevlar. Ecco a voi le scarpe METAL-FREE :

While this is not technically an article of my own, a friend of mine (known around these parts as ‘The Koch’) has just shown me a very interesting link. The website www.soccerbible.com offers a breakdown of the different brands of footballing boots worn in each of Europe’s major leagues, and even the number of goals scored by each brand and each style of boot. As I am too lazy to write it all up myself, and don’t really wish to take credit for other people’s work, here are the links to Europe’s four major leagues:

It will be interesting to refer back to this site near the end of the season and see which brands and boots were the most effective in scoring – I’m sure that’s the exactly the point in creating these sort of charts. We will see if it will be Alexandre Pato and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Nike Vapors, Lionel Messi and Arjen Robben’s Adidas F50s, or perhaps even Francesco Totti’s Diadora LX. The most interesting use of these charts (though I am far too lazy to do so myself) will be adding up all the leagues’ totals next summer and revealing Europe’s most effective boots of the 2009/10 season. My money is on Adidas.

We started our trip in Treviso and stayed at “Col Delle Rane” in Caetano, S. Marco (Treviso) Italy. Cajeran was the old name of the town and it means “Hole of Frogs” There once were two small ponds in front of the villa where frogs made their home. After World War II one of the ponds was filled with war debris and covered. The frogs moved on to the second pond. “Col Delle Rane” means hill of frogs in remembrance of the pond and the frogs that lived there.

The original house was built 300 years ago with the original villa in the center. It was originally for the workers of this hill (vineyards). The farmhouse was reconstructed between 1988-1989 and the Agriturismo originally opened with 6 rooms. It was the first Agriturismo in the Treviso Province with rooms. The swimming pool constructed of stone was built 3 years ago in remembrance of the pond and its frog inhabitants. Today the hotel has 14 rooms and 4 apartments. In Treviso, Agriturismi are only allowed to have facilities for 30 people. The law may change in September and the hotel, which has another building, can be expanded and add additional rooms and a restaurant. Today there is a beautiful building with large windows overlooking the vineyards and the pool where breakfast is served. The farm has vineyards and orchards where they grow apricots, kiwi and the vineyard production is about 60% Procescco grapes. The breakfast included fruits and apple juice produced at the farm, homemade jams, homemade pound cake, meats, cheeses, breads and honey. The Agriturismo had bikes and in the evening we rode through the vineyards where we met many locals walking, riding horses or jogging.

We stopped at a market and purchased “Sopressa Vincentia” (an aged salami produced in the region), Asiago cheese, melon with Prosciutto (Berico-Euganeo) and being that is was cherry season, we feasted on fresh picked cherries for both breakfast and dessert. The hotel had several tables outdoors where we enjoyed our local specialties. The entire Gallina family were perfect hosts and took a great deal of time to help each guest plan their day and gave me this story about the farm.

We choose “Col Delle Rane” because the areas we wanted to visit were easily reachable from Treviso in about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Padova (UNESCO site), Bassano del Grappa, Asolo, Marostica (famous for cherries) Treviso (famous for Radicchio rosso di Treviso), Asiago (famous for Asiago cheese) and Venice. Also the “Strada del Prosecco” and the wine regions of Soave, Bordalino and Valpolicella were on our itinerary. Other wines of this region are: Recioto, Amarone, Torcolate, Tocai Rosso, Garganega, Verduzzo, Raboso, Moscato, Cabernet Franc, Pino Nero, Pino Grigi and Merlot. Prosecco is a sparkling wine made in the style of Champagne. It is a light dry wine mainly served as aperitif, but partners well with fish and light first dishes. The region is also famous for its grappa production. We made it a point to do a little grappa tasting in Bassano del Grappa at the Poli Distillery where we tasted chocolate, coffee and strawberry grappa. I found them a little sweet and preferred the Mascato, Cabinet and Merlot Grappa. There is a museum with the history of distillation of Grappa.

Other areas close by are Lake Garda (a very popular summer resort), Vicenza (UNESCO site) and Verona (UNESCO site). Castles and aristocratic houses dot the countryside and villages with thermal spas attract visitors who enjoy these wellness spas in an environment of past times. The climate is suited to viniculture and orchards are grown along side the vineyards producing peaches, kiwi, plums, apples, cherries and aprocots. The villages we visited were very small and at least 3 can be visited with a good travel plan in a day. There is a canal that runs through Traviso and some shopping, but the small village of Asolo is considered the “Pearl of the Province”.

The guests at the hotel were very friendly and some either had once lived in the area at one time or had visited the hotel many times in the past. One guest recommended the Locanda Sandi vineyard and restaurant in Valdobbladene. The Locanda Sandi is one of the largest vineyards with Prosecco being about 80% of the grapes produced. They have a lovely wine tasting building with chairs outdoors overlooking the vineyards. Late in the evening we sat outdoors in the terrace lit with soft lights surrounded with flowers and ate snails in an herb sauce and veal with porcini mushrooms. A large table was arranged with many different vegetables such as roasted eggplant, zucchini, roasted red peppers, rosemary potatoes and a variety of salads. Porcini mushrooms are picked in woods around Asaigo and are an important part of the local cuisine. A basket full of blankets rolled up and tied with ribbons were available so that if you got cold in the evening you could put one over your shoulders. It did get a little chilly and we took advantage of the blankets.

In Asiago we enjoyed pasta prepared with a white asparagus (grown in the area of Bassano) made with Asiago cheese and a sauce of Asiago cheese with Speck and one with zucchini flowers were specialties and surprising light.

One evening we had dinner at a small Agritursimo next door to the Col Delle Rane. The restaurant is opened only on the weekends and we feasted on roast duck, homemade pasta and of course Prosecco as we ate among the chickens, goats and families enjoying an evening out.

A music and beer festival was being held in Montebelluna and we ate at a recommended pizzeria and listened to jazz being played in the Piazza. Several groups were stationed throughout the town and café’s were crowded with locals enjoying beer and Prosecco. We watched demonstrations of karate, fencing and local dancing and felt like we were part of the local crowd. A guest recommended the pizzeria but said that since it was also a restaurant so they didn’t have as many varieties as another located just at the entrance of town. There must have been 50 selections of pizza on the menu and the pizzeria we didn’t go to had a very long line waiting to get in. I can’t even imagine how many were on the menu as we were told that they had a much larger selection. The crust was thin and crispy and very light but very large.

The region is considered one of the biggest producers of sports equipment, sports clothes and shoes in Italy and the world (www.factoryoutletsitaly.com/regions.htm). There are many factory outlets through out the region. Geox, Nordica, Diadora, Benneton, Asolo, Prince, Kastle, Rollerblade, Killer Loop and Tecnica for example are just a few and prices are about 35% less. This hotel is in a great location for business people who are on buying trips to these factories and many of them came and went during the week of our stay.

The train station in Montebelluna was easy to get to and taking the train is the easiest way of getting to Venice. It took about 1 hour and 10 minutes with one change in Traviso. As usual there were many people in Venice but it is still such a beautiful place and like no other in the world.

I’m not sure if Adam covered this one previously or not. Released back in March, it’s the 09/10 Scotland home kit by Diadora. It’s been unveiled and worn already, making it’s debut in a World Cup Qualifier against the Netherlands; it marked the newest style to come out of the Scottish FA’s three year partnership with Italian kit manufacturer Diadora.

The only problem? Diadora went belly-up earlier today, which means that Scotland is out both a kit manufacturer and the cash due to them by Diadora as part of their three-year sponsorship deal.

This is all kind of new to me; I thought that the teams involved were paying for their own shirts. Apparently, though, the Scottish FA (and I’d imagine other teams as well; I can’t imagine Chelsea’s wearing that ugly android thing for free, for example) was paid £1 million a year to wear whatever kit Diadora wanted to roll out. With today’s announcement that Diadora’s been sent to receivership, that deal’s set to be scuttled at the end of the calendar year (they’ve paid up through 2009).

What does that mean for Scotland? Well, for one thing, it means that this kit won’t even be used for an entire calendar year; they’ll wear it the rest of this year, but it’ll probably be replaced sometime in January. More ominously for the Scottish FA is the fact that this is another major source of income for them. The Scottish Premier League is still reeling from the collapse of Setanta; they can’t stand to be losing more income, especially not this soon after they lost £125 million when the Irish broadcast company couldn’t pay for their rights.
