2012: New disaster film by Roland Emmerich the same director of The Day after Tomorrow. In many ways it is almost the same film as that and the standard disaster films. But the main reason for going to see this film is not for the plot but the very good special effects which you have to make the most of by seeing the film in the cinema. Other than that there is not much to mention apart from a few funny jokes from the fat Russian Billionaire. *Plot Spoiler* I would like to see in these big budget special effects more invention. For example i would like to see some main characters die instead of them all surviving and living happily ever after. 6/10

Children of Men: I finally got round to watching this film after it been recommended by many people and critics for many years. I really enjoyed it. It is fairly dark which I tend to prefer. Its director is Alfonso Cuaron who directed the darkest of the early Harry Potter Films ‘The Prisoner of Azkaban’. Clive Owen gives his best performance in a film I have seen and it was a performance that changed my mind about his abilities. It looks great set in and world twenty years from now but not over technological advanced like most Hollywood films portray the future as. It kept gripped throughout and left me wanting more at the end which is always a good sign 8/10

Die Hard 4: I watched on Channel 4 the other weekend with mates and it is a god, but nothing special, action film. i.e better than transformers but not as good as the Bourne films. I didn’t really rate Timothy Olyphant as the bad guy but apart from that is was fairly watch able although Bruce is getting a bit old for these films. 7/10

Have you seen “The Girl Next Door” ? It is a fun comedy: a teenager (Emile Hirsch) falls in love with the girl next door (Elisha Cuthbert). The problem is she’s a porn star and her producer Kelly (Timothy Olyphant) doesn’t have any plans of letting her live a cute fantasy with her boyfriend. It’s a funny, harmless little movie and this is the first movie I have ever seen Timothy Olyphant in. The thing is I just thought Kelly was a nuisance and a morally corrupt character and didn’t think much of him. It wasn’t a difficult role. And I didn’t even find him remotely attractive.

And I completely forgot about him. Then I saw Catch and Release.

CATCH AND RELEASE (2006)

I actually didn’t even recognize him. He didn’t look that different and it wasn’t like he had a wild change with his image. But this role was completely different.

Gray is barely hanging on. Her fiancé has just died, she is broke and his friends are basically are all she’s got. So she moves in with Dennis and Sam. And Fritz is sticking around for some reason, though he seems to be getting on everybody’s nerves. Gray has accidentally witnessed Fritz having sex at the funeral and she has been mad at him ever since. But as time passes, Gray discovers some truths about her dead fiancé and realizes that maybe he wasn’t as great as he thought he was. First she finds out he has a secret account she never knew about and has been regularly sending money to a person- and then she learns that person is the mother of his child. To make matter worse, he has been cheating on her. While Sam is lost in his own depression and Dennis seems way too considerate for a friend, it is Fritz that helps her cope with these new facts and helps her have fun. Fritz may not be perfect, but he is not the jerk she thought he was.

The minute you see Fritz, you just want Gray to get over her fiancé’s death and her hatred for Fritz soon and well, hang out with Fritz so that he will have much screen time. He is good-looking, fun and whatever stupid things he might have done, it is not that easy to judge him since he has lost a close friend and everybody has a different way of coping. And you want her to stop mourning when you realize the guy was a tw0-timing liar and had been with another woman for years without her knowing it. And the more you know Fritz, the more like him. He is fun, sweet and well gorgeous. So it is weird falling for your fiancés friend and him falling for you, but it is a fun,emotional film. It is not original but then I don’t think it ever tried to be. It is also a question of how well we really know the people we think we know really well.

Below is the link to one of my favorite scenes. Gray has just found out that her fiancés kid is much younger than Fritz initially told him,which means he had been cheating on her for years. Fritz was just trying to soften the blow on her. Now, she is very mad at her fiancé- which is good, so she doesn’t really feel guilty about Fritz. The scene also happens to be one of the best kisses in a movie. Impulsive and passionate, and still managing to be gentle:

DEADWOOD (2004-2006)

It’s a western/drama/thriller and Timothy Olyphant is one of the leads. If you have seen Deadwood after Catch and Release, it is a lot more surprising to see Timothy go all wild west on his audience. As Fritz, he was an advertising hotshot with a place in Malibu. Here, he is a much more complicated character as the Sheriff. He is not nearly as composed, and as a modern man for his time, he seems to have a hard time excepting the horrifying level of crime and violence going on in the town. He has 0 tolerance for betrayal and he prefers speaking his mind to acting diplomatically. The show has two seasons and it is highly rated.

The movie also uses a very free language, meaning: brace yourself for some R-rated dialogue. Note that one of the characters’ names is Swearengen and it is not a coincidence.

Live free or Die Hard

There are two impressive things about Timothy, one about his looks and one about his acting. Now, Timothy is normally a young-looking actor. In Catch and Release, I just couldn’t believe he was 37! However a year later, he plays the villain in the 4th movie of the Die Hard series and he suddenly looks seasoned. He didn’t age overnight,of course. He is just really good at adapting to his role. He had to be a guy who seeked vengeance for what felt like wrong doing on his part and he just takes this revenge thing on everyone. It just wouldn’t look convincing if he looked like a man fresh out of college; his nemesis is Bruce Willis, for god’s sake! However, Tim’s character is one of the coolest, most cold-blooded villains seen on screen- and he brought the role facial expressions I had never seen him do before. I don’t know a lot of actors who can do that. Yes, there are a lot of good actors but their expressions/way of acting don’t really differ that much or cease surprising you at one point. The last time I was pleasantly surprised like this was by Robert De Niro’s performance in Stardust- I have seen his 3 decades of movies and it was the first time a role of his and his portrayal surprised me.

It is not just Tim’s performance though. Live Free or Die Hard is a solid action movie. It sure includes some physically impossible stuff but hey it is John McClane we are talking about, it is expected. The explosions and chasing and plotting are great. The villain is not just muscles, but brains- who doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty/bloody when he needs to. His smooth delivery and coolness make an impressive, chilly effect.

HITMAN (2007)

Timothy Olyphant as Agent 47 in Hitman

Hitman is based on a very popular computer game. Agent 47 has been raised as a kid to be the perfect assassin. No emotions, no complications. Just get the mission, get it done, and get out. An impressive bank balance, no conscience and no emotions. He can get himself out of any danger and you seriously do not want to mess with him. However some people do, and things go awry. After all, the people who “programmed” him have forgotten that no matter how “mechanic” they trained him to be, he is still human. He is also surprised to see he has some feelings he can’t define, which starts after meeting his female target: a Russian hooker (Olga Kurylenko), whose political figure boyfriend might very well involved in the conspiracy.

I actually laughed when some people commented that Timothy’s acting was flat. Did they pay attention to anything going on in the movie? 47 was raised to show and feel no signs of emotion. He is based on a computer character. He is supposed to be flat. But later with the Russian girl, he starts to feel a variety of mixed emotions and he portrays the different levels of reaction perfectly. The movie is fast and it is entertaining as hell. We go to different places in the world, including Russia and Turkey with the characters. There’s lots of action- both with weaponry and fighting. There is also a subtle sense of humor and it is fun to watch Agent 47 begin to change and how he deals with himself. A scene where she’s trying to seduce him and he gives her a sedative shot to get her off him is just plain hilarious. There is also a fun nod at the computer game. I like mindless action. Bring it on!!!

A PERFECT GETAWAY (2007)

A Perfect Getaway with Timothy Olyphant

Timothy is featured in the show Damages, but I already wrote about it. So I am gonna end the post with one of his latest movies, a thriller called A Perfect Getaway. I just got my hands on the movie and haven’t seen it yet but am quite looking forward to it. With this, Timothy is back to his familiar gorgeous look- which suits the exotic and dangerous vacation theme of the movie.

The great thing about him is that he is a very versatile actor. I could only feature some of his films here. He has had no problems playing a bisexual character falling for his gay boyfriend’s female best friend (Advice from a Caterpillar), a cold-blooded villain (Live Free or Die Hard), a highly professional killer (Hitman), a misunderstood nice guy (Catch and Release); an annoyingly slick TV reporter with no moral principles (Bill), a sheriff in the old west (Deadwood), a drug dealer (Go)….Well the list speaks for itself. It is great that he is very good-looking, and that he doesn’t show his 41 years- which gives him the opportunity to play more kinds of roles.

It is also impressive that he is married with 3 kids and that he has been married since 1991. He has been around for a while and it seems like the movie-makers seem are smart enough to take advantage of this skilled actor. Hope he gets the credit he deserves.

My grandma always said, “If you want a good action drama, there’s a few things that is a must-have: 1) People must die (preferably in agony), 2) Someone must always triumph (and the hero’s always soiled by the end of the show), 3) Cars and/or planes must explode (hopefully taking with it an entire suburb), and 4) They’re fighting for justice and loved ones (family pets included).”

Three words sum up my grandmother’s sagacious and astute perceptiveness: “Yipee-Ki-Yay!” That is John McClane’s (Willis) infamous, signature expression that has traversed the Die Hard series and even etched itself within pop-culture etymology. Wiseman’s film trails behind the dogmatic wake of action movie scripts and cheers itself for being visually and cinematically stunning. While the audience might “Yipee-Ki-Yay” the skyward catapult of McClane’s patrol car into a helicopter, or perhaps grip one’s seat in an explosive freeway chase sequence, the plot and narrative are painfully conventional.

The beaded storyline of Die Hard 4 is woven predictably. McClane has a fight with daughter Lucy (Winstead) and leaves discontented to a mission to apprehend some hacker criminal. Matt Farrell (Long), the star computer genius, is head-hunted by both a secret criminal organisation and the police. McClane finds Gabriel and is inevitably siphoned into the web of deceit, terrorism and techno-war. As the duo dangerously progress to uncover the truth of events, Gabriel (Olyphant) scratches through the scenes to reveal his plans to conquer the virtual communications of the United States and then, we also assume, the world. The old and feisty cop coupled with the bedraggled and naïve computer nerd finally disrupts Farrell’s ambition for inscrutable autocracy. In the last bid to bend the fates, Farrell abducts McClane’s daughter to force the surrender of the anti-hero. Of course, in the end Farrell dies, McClane lives with scratches, Lucy gets a bit traumatised and forgives her father’s impudence, and the computer nerd transcends his hermit life to become the dare-develling successor of the Die Hard series. The audience leaves their seats and wonder if the cinema would consider a discount on the ticket.

I tip my hat to some of the quirky lines and quip of Willis’ character. At certain scenes the audience were up and roaring with laughter and we could see the continuity of that comedy through Long’s dry wit (whom I assume would be the next McClane in Die Hard 5). While I would not discount the visual spectacular of the film, it would be tautological to state that action movies are now prescribed to CGI magnificence. The Hollywood mantra exclaims that if a story sucks then don’t hold back on the blue-screen effects. Die Hard 4 is but a clichéd fold in the ever proliferating ripple of mainstream, action films. Fans would not be disappointed as Die Hard 4 levels with an archaic plot and formula, which adheres to the idiom: “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it”. However, critics and general audience might find the over-rehearsed banter and adventure to be banal and outmoded.

Today, I would like to talk about ‘Law Abiding Citizen,’ which is set to be released October 16th 2009. Why? Because it looks like Die Hard 4.0, Phone Booth, Miami Vice and Shoot ‘Em Up all rolled into one, that’s why.  Frankly, it’s going to be the most actiony (I just invented a word!) action film in quite a long time. The best thing about its release is that… Everyone loves a good action film and everyone else loves a good action film with Gerald Butler in it (I know you’re nodding).

But don’t just think it’s all guns and explosions and corrupted legal systems, because whilst it is all of that, there’s more. Butler (who ultimately gained my respect after his performances in Phantom Of The Opera and 300) displays what can only be described as award-worthy acting as an emotionally destroyed husband, father and all around family man. An emotionally demanding part, right? Emotion which I believe he incorporated from earlier movies of his such as P.S I love you, more recently The Ugly Truth and even more recently,Gamer (all very good films may I add)

Now unless you are incapable of reader the poster to the left, you would have also noticed Jamie Foxx (Collateral, Ray, The Kingdom) is also one of the films main protagonists, who plays ‘a heroic yet corrupt D.A.‘ Other noticable appearances include; Sir Michael Gambon (Harry Potter, Layer Cake, The Omen), Viola Davis (Solaris, Disturbia, State Of Play), Bruce McGill (Ali, Matchstick Men, Collateral) and Leslie Bibb (Iron Man, the upcoming Trick’R'treat (Which I will be doing an article on), and Iron man 2). So I think I’ve yapped on enough, now I leave you with the impressive trailer . Enjoy.

Such inexpensive devices yet 3 weeks after connecting to broadband and I have yet to force my mother into buying another line filter!  Why does this even matter? Because I can’t use my dialup while the broadband modem is connected. Because my dialup isn’t plugged into a line filtered line. And so the broadband cuts out and the dial up doesn’t work. AND ahh it’s just frustrating. So this is why I am sitting on the family computer instead of nicely tucked up in bed on my laptop. Because  er.. the broadband needs to be on until.. something.. finishes. No I am not downloading plans to make a bomb… I could do that all by myself XD haha JOKES. *looks around for potential undercover FBI followers*

Watched Die Hard 4 tonight. Was quite enjoyable. And Bruce Willis’ character still managed to live. My favourite scene was near the start when they’re in the tunnel and the hackers open all lanes to traffic, both ways which of course causes many rolling, flying cars, excellent near misses, flames, and huge clouds of black smoke. And yet John and Matt still both live. Fascinating. Unbelievable. Bla bla bla. Never mind the fact that when they drove into the tunnel, did they actually pass miles of jammed, backed up traffic?….

Being the nerd I am, today, DURING THE HOLIDAYS, I studied some chemistry. *gasp*. I’m writing out all the key notes and all the important charts and rules that I need to learn for the Level 2 chem course. Got through 3 booklets. Only doing the odd excercise here and there so instead of spending 2 weeks on each booklet I spent about 30-45mins, hour max. Just started on Organic Chemistry. Finished structure and bonding , and redox reactions and part of Exothermic and Endothermic reactions. It’s quite fascinating stuff. Though mostly mind numbing. I have another 4 booklets to go. Might try get through a couple more tomorrow before I go hang out with Beka WOOT.

Apparently, well this is what I have heard that someone else has heard (rofl) typing JASON STATHAM’S name in lower case, may cause him to come and eat your soul. Which made me wonder, what lengths will people go to to save their souls, or what lengths will people go to to avoid their soul being eaten.

Would you make sure you wrote JASON STATHAM’s in caps everytime? Would you make sure that you always put on your left sock/shoe first? Would you pay me $1 million? Cut off your hands? Steal someone else’s soul? Wait a minute, how would one exactly eat a soul? Would you fry it? Bbq it? Steam, deepfry, microwave, grill, toast or bake it? Would you add sauce? Tomato sauce goes with everything so I’m sure that would be a must. And would there be a certain wine to go with it? Why am I not a wine connossieur? I’m sure I would know if I was.

So the previous paragraph is an excellent example of the kind of shit I have been talking today. Beka didn’t want to work, so my advice was “Think about all the people you will make happy by making them coffee”. Then coming to the conclusion that we both talk a lot of shit (I actually remember having a similar conversation with her the other day about wacky far out there stupid ideas or plans or things that could happen) we decided we should make a club. This club would have a shitty clubhouse that we could talk shit in. It would be in a tree. And big birds would fly us up there. In said clubhouse, we would drink alot of vodka and v and juice. Eat a lot of chocolate and gummybears. Play guitar hero. And generally just talk a load of crap and become fat-alcoholic-expert-guitar-hero-players. Though after this realisation, I decided that we would run everywhere, and chase the big birds that would fly us up into the clubhouse, and that would prevent us from becoming fat. I’m sure running would also help with the alcohol problem. Provided we didn’t think up a way to drink as we were running.

All in all it was a good hour of txting shit. We both realised maybe living together would not be the best idea. Neither of us caring of course!

Well simple plan is playing on the radio so I think  I should go and snatch the remote from my sister and change the station. LIKE NOW!

On the way to norwich today there was epicly dangerous and downright stupid driving. Some idiot was tailgating some other idiot who pulled out in front of us just minutes before, and kept flashing him for ages untill he was able to pass him. After which is spent 10 minutes driving right in front of the car that wouldn’t give into his flashing and tailgating… complete tosspots… this is a prime example of why I don’t care for driving lol. Can’t be arsed to learn yet…… Anyways…. nuff ranting about driving. Onto today’s goodies!!

I finally found Odin Sphere are a decent price!! Second hand, yes… but for £8.98 how could I say no?! Well… technically I didn’t buy it. My brother bought it for me, a very belated birthday gift which he never bought me…. actually… now I think about it… he didn’t get me a christmas present either….. damn… must demand more… lol And as for Die Hard 4.0(Live Free or Die Hard in the US apparantly…) I got my brother this movie, only the double disc, uncut version(the version pictured above is cut to hell… they had the audacity to cut ‘Yippee-kai-yay-mother-f***er’, so that there was just the ‘Yippee-kai-yay’… its not a Die Hard movie without that phrase…. But otherwise, very entertaining movie. I watched it last night, its insanely stupid, but in that high-octane-y way lol. So now he’s got the uncut version, I get to keep the other DVD.

Now if you’re wondering what that big silver dragon is, its a big animatronic dragon. And the little robot dude is animatronic too. It was a display in what used to be the Bear Factory in the Mall, advertising ‘Sabre Animatronics’. Apparantly they can be hired for birthdays. Whoever’s birthdays get this kinda stuff, I’d love to see them, mine were not nearly this extravegant, mega awesome, but no big-ass dragons lol.

I’d love a mini one, looked so cool… I regret not getting a video of it… next time I’m in Norwich I’m totally getting a video….

When I saw there was a Watchmen tshirt with JDM on it, how could I resist??!! Seriously!! There was a big-wide-ass poster too… with the whole team on… JDM in the middle… so tempting… might get it sometime later lol… I’d love more JDM tshirts lol… or Dr Who ones… sadly… most of the Dr Who ones are for little kids… *sulk* least these Watchmen ones are in adult sizes hehe. Thats a Medium. Tis just the right length for me. Large woulda been pajama size, this means I can wear this out if I wants hehehe.

Anyways… thats all for now. Gonna finish watching Pushing Daisies then play a bit of Odin Sphere before watching Higashi no Eden ep 3 and Bamboo Blade 10, I already watched K-on! 3 and Asura Cryin’ 3 earlier today.

■ À propos de cet article : J’ai interviewé Cyril Raffaelli en mai 2007 (si ma mémoire est bonne) pour la sortie, deux mois plus tard, de Die Hard 4 – Retour en enfer, dans lequel il joue Rand, un méchant. Je publie cet article aujourd’hui, car c’est la sortie de Banlieue 13 – Ultimatum, où l’acteur rempile pour le premier rôle, celui du flic Damien.

Le Français Cyril Raffaelli est cascadeur, chorégraphe * et acteur. Il combat Bruce Willis dans Die Hard 4 : Retour en enfer, sorti la semaine dernière (l’actu n° 2 338).

Comment a débuté cette aventure ?

Cyril Raffaelli : L’équipe de casting avait vu mon travail et m’a auditionné. Une fois sélectionné, je suis allé à Los Angeles pour quatre mois de tournage. C’était une expérience incroyable. Étant fan de la trilogie, je suis heureux de me retrouver dans cette saga mythique ! J’ai beaucoup appris en tant qu’acteur mais aussi sur le travail de chorégraphe.

Comment se prépare une cascade ?

Il y a d’abord l’entraînement physique : plusieurs heures de sport, beaucoup de répétitions et de préparation pour une scène. Quand je saute d’un immeuble à un autre avec sept mètres d’écart, il y a un câble mais il ne m’aide pas, c’est juste au cas où… C’est aussi un travail sur la force psychologique. Il faut se servir de sa peur pour aller au bout de ce qu’on veut réaliser ! Mais on ne prend pas plus de risques que dans un autre métier.

Tourner avec Bruce Willis n’est pas trop difficile ?

Face à Bruce, on est tellement intimidé qu’on n’a pas le droit à l’erreur, il ne faut pas le décevoir ! Il était hors de question de refaire des prises à cause de moi ! J’ai dû bosser à fond !

À l’âge de six ans, Cyril Raffaelli découvre les arts martiaux. Il maîtrise rapidement le karaté et le nunchaku puis entre en école de cirque à 14 ans. « J’ai ensuite pris des cours de théâtre afin de jouer, chanter et danser dans des comédies musicales. J’ai intégré la troupe de Starmania durant quatre ans. » Petit à petit, il double et chorégraphie les cascades de nombreux films. Il réalise le combat final dans Le Baiser mortel du dragon. Et décroche le premier rôle dans Banlieue 13, produit par Luc Besson.

■ À propos de cette interview : Elle est donc parue dans l’actu, le 20 juillet 2007. Cyril est super sympa ! On a bu un verre en terrasse près de Châtelet, c’était un agréable moment. À l’époque il me confiait « en off » qu’il était cascadeur sur le nouveau The Hulk, qu’il tournait la suite de Banlieue 13, etc… Marrant, quand j’y repense. Bref je n’ai pas vu Banlieue 13, ni sa suite, mais de l’action sans prise de tête, je ne dis pas non, on verra à l’occasion ! En tout cas, chouette souvenir !

John McClane takes on an Internet-based terrorist organization who is systematically shutting down the United States.

Twelve years after Die Hard with a Vengeance, the third and previous film in the Die Hard franchise, Live Free or Die Hard finds John McClane (Bruce Willis) a few years older, not any happier, and just as kick-ass as ever. Right after he has a fight with his college-age daughter (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a call comes in to pick up a hacker (Justin Long, a.k.a. the “Apple guy”) who might help the FBI learn something about a brief security blip in their systems. Now any Die Hard fan knows that this is when the assassins with foreign accents and high-powered weaponry show up, telling McClane that once again he’s stumbled into an assignment that’s anything but routine. Once that wreckage has cleared, it is revealed that the hacker is only one of many hackers who are being targeted for extermination after they helped set up a “fire sale,” a three-pronged cyberattack designed to bring down the entire country by crippling its transportation, finances, and utilities. That plan is now being put into action by a mysterious team (Timothy Olyphant, Deadwood, and Maggie Q, Mission: Impossible 3) that seems to be operating under the government’s noses.

Live Free or Die Hard uses some of the cat-and-mouse elements of Die Hard with a Vengeance along with some of the pick-’em-off-one-by-one elements of the now-classic original movie. And it’s the most consistently enjoyable installment of the franchise since the original, with eye-popping stunts (directed by Len Wiseman of the Underworld franchise), good humor, and Willis’s ability to toss off a quip while barely alive. There was some controversy over the film’s PG-13 rating–there might be less blood than usual, and McClane’s famous tag line is somewhat obscured–but there’s still has plenty of action and a high body count. serangan ini diprakarsai oleh Hacker Rusia. Hacker beretnis Rusia ini dihukum berkaitan dengan adanya serangan cyber yang melanda Estonia tahun lalu. Serangan cyber ini diduga kuat turut didalangi oleh Rusia, mantan penjajah Estonia pada masa lalu.

“Dmitri Galushkevic adalah hacker pertama yang dihukum karena melancarkan serangan cyber besar-besaran pada situs-situs Estonia,” ungkap Gerrit Maesalu, juru bicara kejaksaan di utara Estonia, seperti dikutip detikINET dari AFP, Kamis (24/1/2008).

Serangan Galushkevic ini hanyalah bagian dari serangan berskala besar yang melanda Estonia itu untuk memprotes kebijakan Perdana Menteri Andrus Ansip. Protes terjadi karena Ansip membongkar sebuah monumen tentara Rusia dari ibu kota Estonia, Stallin.

Sejak patung yang dianggap bernilai penting bagi orang Rusia ini dipindahkan, hubungan antara Estonia dan Rusia terus memburuk. Bahkan diduga kuat, Rusia turut menjadi dalang serangan cyber ke Estonia tersebut berkenaan dengan kejadian ini.

Menurut investigasi pihak Estonia, kebanyakan tersangka dipercaya ada di Rusia. Bahkan, komputer pemerintah Rusia di Kremlin diduga jadi sumber serangan pada beberapa server Estonia. Namun pihak Rusia membantah terlibat pada serangan ke Estonia ini.

Estonia menghadapi serangan terhadap web site swasta dan pemerintah pada April dan Mei, setelah setelah monumen Tentara Merah dibongkar dari satu lapangan di Stallin. Pembongkaran monumen tersebut mengakibatkan kerusuhan selama dua malam oleh etnik Rusia.

menanggapi hal tersebut, pemerintah AS mempersiapkan diri membentengi jaringan cybernya. Serangan cyber dapat dengan sekejap menghantam suatu negara, tak terkecuali bagi negara adidaya Amerika Serikat. FBI pun turun tangan dan mengeluarkan peringatannya.

Shawn Henry, asisten direktur divisi cybercrime FBI dalam sebuah konferensi pers di New York mengungkapkan, serangan komputer bisa menjadi ancaman terbesar bagi keamanan nasional. Bahkan kekhawatiran terhadap serangan cyber berada di bawah ancaman bom nuklir dan senjata berat.

Both their parents were on holiday abroad, hence they invited us over for a steamboat/barbecue dinner. as they did not have to go relatives visiting.

The dinner was great – the Wagyu beef and Kurobuta pork were “explode in your mouth” quality. Thanks Mark and Meiyen for the sumptuous dinner. Rachel and I made a mental note to ourselves to treat them to dinner at my place next time round.

After dinner, Mark showed off a new batch of Transformers toys which he just moved in from his old house. To see more of his collection, you can click HERE. The shift is not complete yet, there’s still about a quarter of these figurines in his old house.

We watched “Die Hard 4″ on blu-ray DVD to round up the day. The blu-ray quality was crisp clear. Together with Mark’s projector screen, sofa seat and booming sound system, the cinematic experience was better than at the local theatres. Pity Rachel and I are both not fans of big bang and loud explosions Hollywood movies though – we fell asleep halfway through…

Off the bat, I liked this movie. It was fast-paced, entertaining and somewhat thought-provoking, which is about all you can ask from most movies these days. Shia LeBeouf, as I think everyone loves to remind us, is quite the up and coming little actor and with Stephen Speilberg keeping him tucked tightly beneath his wing, he’s sure to be just fine (if inserted after the fact into a few digitally enhanced remakes).

Sort-of Spoiler Alert

The plot of Eagly Eye was a combination of iRobot – a supercomputer that thinks it knows how to protect human beings better than they can protect themselves – and Die Hard IV – cyber-terrorism and losing control to the technology that we’re so dependent on. So, it wasn’t the most unique idea ever, but it was a combination of interesting ideas done in their own way. Eagle Eye pushed reality and technology a few steps further than they go, and in that sense it could remind one of a Michael Crichton approach.

Billy Bob Thornton was very funny, even though I don’t think he was supposed to be haha funny. But I laughed. I think he’s hilarious. Michelle Monaghan, the female lead, was okay. I never find her to be a particularly engaging actress (think Mission Impossible III), but Rosario Dawson wasn’t bad. She’s also in a hell of a lot more movies than I remembered at the time, and could be a lot more badass (remember Sin City) if they’d let her be.

At the end of the day, if you like action flicks then this one is entertaining and probably worth your time.

I almost forgot to give my reason about why I called this blog “My Boogers.” Well, I don’t want to appear a bit sentimental here, so instead of saying the gooey “my friends,” I’d rather call them my boogers. They’re good boogers, they don’t mess with my nose hairs that’s why. They just like to stick around my nose holes and hear me breathe. I fondle them and they play a very important part during my past time.

This is Dominic. He’s friends with the electricity. He talks to them and about them everyday at school. He’s fond of fixing things, men’s stuff, gadgets. I sometimes wonder what his fingers think everytime he does his job and projects. Well, like his fingers, he’s not a noisy guy. My friend once said he’s cool to be with because he doesn’t complain everytime the whole boogers go out somewhere else even if we don’t know where to go exactly. You got me there?

Anyway, Dominic’s silent but fun. You just have to talk to him so you’d get the fun. Just talk when you’re with him. If he doesn’t start the talking, just wait. If, after a few minutes, he still doesn’t talk, wait some more. One minute. If nothing happens, then perhaps he doesn’t really want to talk because if he does, he could have already talked to you two minutes after you waited for him to do the talking. Okay? And he definitely loves spaghetti. And all kinds of food. As I said, he doesn’t complain. He even accepts good leftovers just as long as it’s still good to go. To his belly.

Peter Paul. But we’re fond of calling him simply Pipoy. He’s a mathematics genius, he’s quite serious in his teaching profession now. Does it very seriously with his high school sophomore students in a secondary education school somewhere in Davao. He wears his name plate now: he’s a student teacher yet.

Like his brother (Dominic), he’s also a bit silent. When he is, he reads your mind. Yes, just did that to me one time when we were practicing for our church choir. I wasn’t saying anything when he suddenly whispered, “You sure are pissed off.” I was at that time and nobody seemed to notice it except him. He reads minds. I sometimes get scared of this man.

And when he snores, you’ll surely find trouble sleeping. He drowses off easily and then he doesn’t care what happens around him anymore. He’s already there, in his dreams. We were watching Die Hard 4 in a movie house with Fritz and when we looked at him, he was looking back at us with the same eyes he has in this picture.

John McClane, wir haben ein Problem… ! Nanu, ist besagter Detective (Bruce Willis) denn noch nicht im Ruhestand, mag sich so manch einer fragen ? Nein, davon ist er noch sehr weit entfernt ! Zumindest scheint dies so, wirft man einen Blick in den neuesten Teil der “Stirb Langsam”-Filmreihe. Denn hier fliegen erneut die Kugeln, Autos und auch Menschen durch die Luft; hier gibt es erneut eine fiese Bande von Verbrechern welche den US-Bürgern an die Wäsche, beziehungsweise ans Geld wollen. Und hier gibt es erneut einen gewitzten John McClane, der seine Sprüche so obercool zum besten gibt, als könnte könnte ihn gar nichts aus der Ruhe bringen. Schauplatz ist diesmal die Innenstadt von Washington DC, wo sich einige fähig-finstere Gesellen zusammengeschlossen haben um einen großen Coup zu landen: sie legen den kompletten Bundesstaat, und später auch fast ganz Amerika lahm. Dies tun sie, indem sie die besten Hacker um sich scharen, um jedwene Sicherheitssysteme austricksen zu können.

Jo, lass mich rein – ich will doch nur helfen… !

Dies geschiet diesmal in Drei Schritten: zuerst wird der Verkehr lahmgelegt, danach ist die Börse dran; und zum guten Abschluss die Energiezufuhr. Und was ist eigentlich deren (Haupt-)Ziel ? Nun, das habe ich mich auch erst gefragt. Doch es wird schon bald klar: es ist ein Aufmerksamkeitsdefizitsyndrom seitens des Bosses der Bande; sowie wie immer: die pure Geldgier. John McClane war erst gar nicht involviert, doch ab dem Moment in dem er auf Matt Farrell (Justin Long) trifft, einen “renommierten” Hacker, ändert sich das. Denn nun steht er – wieder einmal – zwischen allen Fronten. Die fiesen kriminellen wollen Matt töten, da er unwissentlich am Projekt mitgeholfen hat – sowie alle anderen die dabei waren. Dies kann John nicht zulassen, keine Frage. Er droht dem Boss mit seinem berühmten “Ich verpasse dir ‘nen Tritt in den Arsch!“, wobei dieser auch noch einige Asse im Ärmel hat… er entführt beispielsweise McClane’s Tochter. So beginnt eine dramatische Rettungsaktion – einmal aus heldenhaften Gründen (das Schicksal der US-Wirtschaft), einmal aus persönlichen (die Rettung eines Familienmitglieds)…

Pkw und Hubschrauber – passt das zusammen… ? Ja, denn beide haben einen Tank…

Was für ein Kracher – an Actionszenen und Stunteinlagen wird definitiv nicht gespart ! Nun, und um ehrlich zu sein: wäre dies ein neuer Film, der nicht auf einer Trilogie basiert wäre er längst nicht so reiz- und wirkungsvoll. Ein wenig des guten, alten “Stirb langsam”-Bonusses kommt hier also durchaus zum tragen. Denn es ist die bekannte Figur des beinharten John McClane’s, die die Zuschauer seit jeher begeisterte. Verletzungen, Schmerz ? Pah, was ist das schon, wenn es um das Wohl der Menschheit beziehungsweise seiner liebsten geht ? In diesem Fall wird sich insoweit weiterentwickelt, als dass McClane einen durchaus ebenbürtigen Parnter an die Seite gestellt bekommt – eher zufällig – und er sich diesmal nicht in gewohnter Solo-Manier durch die Szenerie kämpft.

McClane ist wie eine Katze – obwohl, die hat ja auch “NUR” 7 Leben…

Optisch – das war klar zu erwarten – natürlich ein Genuss. Fetzige Explosionen, durchlöcherte Häuser und Autos, mächtige Kollisionen zwischen allen möglichen Fortbewegungsmitteln, Hubschrauber, Scharfschützen – sowie gute Schauplätze und aufwendige Szenenaufbauten. Auch die Soundkulisse untermalt diesen Eindruck perfekt, Waffengeräusche hämmern wunderbar kraftvoll durch die Boxenmembranen. Ein weiterer riesen Pluspunkt: die Darsteller. Bruce Willis als John McClane – keine Frage, das ist seine Rolle. Aber auch Justin Long als sein neuer “Partner” Matt Farrell mimt seinen leicht schreckhaften Charakter gut. So einer ist mit John McClane unterwegs… ? Eben dieser Fakt macht das Zusammenspiel zwischen den beiden interessant. Sehr gut auch Timothy Olyphant als Thomas Gabriel, dem Oberhaupt der Fraktion der “Bösen” – sein eiskalter Blick, seine Mimik passen einfach wie die Faust aufs Auge (bietet sich bei diesem Film an, der Spruch!)…

Doch zu den Dingen, die mir persönlich nicht so gut gefallen haben. Wie gesagt, in technischer und schauspielerischer Hinsicht ist der Film wirklich 1A, zudem gibt es den “Stirb langsam”-Bonus. Aber die Story… nun ja, mich hat sie nicht überzeugt. Zu gewollt-modern erscheint mir die Geschichte um eine kleine Gruppe aus einer handvoll Terroristen, die mit einem Mal fast das gesamte Amerika übernehmen, indem sie von ihrer mobilen Station aus sämtliche Netzwerke infiltrieren. Das dies – so wie hier gezeigt – wohl nicht möglich ist ist das eine. Das andere ist eben, aber das ist “Stirb langsam”-typisch; dass es nur einen beziehungsweise nun zwei (selbstverständlich unsterbliche!) Männer gibt die diese bösen Buben aufhalten können – und sonst eben niemand. Da muss man sich schon mit anfreunden können. Ganz wichtig ist auch, dass man in diesem Film soetwas wie “Logik” oder “Realismus” nicht erwarten kann. Leider – denn dies war in der Trilogie immerhin noch ansatzweise gegeben. Sehr schwach ist auch das Ende – da hat man es sich mal wieder (zu) einfach gemacht. Die Bösen sind alle Tot, und die Guten haben alle überlebt. Keine Worte mehr zu den vorangegangen Ereignissen. Habe ich jetzt gespoilert ? Nein, denn dies war zu erwarten und ist kein großes Geheimnis. Das ist mir persönlich (und heutzutage) aber zu wenig !

Mal wird nur auf McClane draufgehalten, meist aber auch geschossen – passieren tut ihm aber nicht wirklich was…

Für Fans der Reihe aber immer noch ein klares “Muss”. Schwieriger wird es da schon für Neueinsteiger, da der Film tatsächlich nicht allzu viel innovatives, eigenständiges bietet, sondern klar mit dem “McClane”- Bonus (und da spielt eben auch die Vorgeschichte aus Teil 1-3 mit rein) punktet. Dennoch, wer auf gradlinige, humorgeladene Action mit netten Effekten und Kampfszenen mit nur wenigen Hauptcharakteren in den “Retterrollen” steht, ist hier nicht falsch beraten – im Gegenteil, der feiert mit diesem Film ein wahres Action-Unterhaltungs-Fest. 6.3 von 10 Punkten von meiner Seite aus.
