Now seems about the right time to take a step back, to take a long, broad look across the political landscape and take stock of where our nation is now, and where it may be headed in 2010.  “Change.” The victorious mantra of the 2008 elections.  The greatest economic crisis in over seven decades has indeed forced change in the lives of almost all Americans.  The economic woodshed has been very painful for very many.  And now, as the professional political tea leaf readers attempt to attach meaning to the last year in politics, there’s an-all-too-common-today temptation and tendency to couch it in overly simplistic terms.  But things in politics, as in life, aren’t always what they first seem on the surface.

Obama has enamored many, enraged many, and become the focal point for political upheaval that can only partially be linked to his own presidency.  Oh, sure, it’s easy for many to pick sides.  The partisan labels and political name calling have become so habitual in the past decade or two that taking shots at the other side has become easier for many than picking their favorite ice cream.  It’s become so ingrained, in fact, that political analysts themselves can slip into a too-easy analysis of Washington and the nation circa 2009.  Too easy, and too surface, indeed.

For now, in this time, the American public is restless and uneasy down deep – below partisan allegiances, below candidate loyalties, below voting habits.  They are concerned and frustrated and angry not simply or even fundamentally with those playing roles in some of the key structures of our society – the worlds of government, global finance, corporate operations, even education, and perhaps more – but with the structures themselves.  Trust has been broken, and it is proving tough to rebuild.  To do so will require far less responsibility-dodging and partisan backstabbing and far more problem solving for the common good.  Below the surface, this is profoundly evident.  Our people – and those of other nations struggling with similar substantial challenges — desperately want to believe that the folks in charge both know what they’re doing and are doing it for the benefit of all… but they currently believe neither.  Poll after poll demonstrates deep disenchantment with Washington, Wall Street, transnational public and private sector organizational structures, and most importantly the basic way “things seem to work out for those guys but not the rest of us.”  The very core of American commonality – that we’re all in this together – is being sorely and deeply tested in the hearts and minds of our people.

Today, as has occurred periodically in American history, the people are looking for some transformational ideas with universal merit, and some ones with honesty and integrity, in which to put their trust.  Knowing perfection is not possible, they look not for the perfect.  They look for the genuine, the credible, the resonating truth that sits well with their innermost conscience, that squares with who they’ve always hoped they, their children, and their nation could be and become.  It is a call, perhaps even a cry, for real, servant-hearted, courageous, and yes, even humble leadership rarely seen by most in our day as they scan the societal horizon. The founding fathers often appealed to Divine Providence for this kind of vision, this kind of leadership, this kind of national stewardship.  In our day, the people of our nation are again collectively deeply unsettled, uncharacteristically afraid of what tomorrow may bring, and quietly hoping, perhaps even praying, for this providential provision of institutions, and leaders, they can again believe in.  Below the simplistic surface, they hope for what they know should be, still believe may be possible, and deeply pray will come. Leadership, and institutions, they can trust.

I have been kind of busy/ill (coughing up blood, you know tends to excuse one from being very active online), so I haven’t had a chance to share some of my more recent purchases. I was a bit overzealous so I will definitely not going to buying anything else until my next paycheck. I tend to buy things when I am stressed, being sick and taking care of an ill child all by myself tends to stress me out so I went the old retail therapy route.Some of these have actually already arrived but the new wonderful and sexy, Canon Rebel XS won’t be here until at least tomorrow (depending on whether or not I make it to the office tomorrow in time to pick it up) so pictures will be forthcoming.

I bought another J doll, I have one already (Church St) but I failed to ever really click with her.  I had been looking at some photos of J dolls and I happened to find a really good deal on Punkaa St, I also happened to have some balance left over on my paypal from my doll accessories sale so I figured I would give J doll a second chance. She arrived a few days ago, and I am glad I did actually take the chance and buy her because I love her to death. I decided to name her Azul (Spanish for blue).

I also surprisingly bought another taeyang, I am somewhat in shock that I now own 10 boys (9 taeyangs/1 namu). A friend was selling him, I still had money in my paypal account and  I thought he would make an excellant counterpart for my latest Papin, Lorelei. I tend to pair dolls up according to their relative eye/wig color, my last two couples have had reversed wig/eye colors as well it seems as scientific a method as any (I’ve also noticed the last two boys both got paired up with Papins). After a full week of being here without a name, yesterday it was decided by popular vote on twitter that his name is Dietrich.

Peter Pan was the last of the dolls to arrive, she was also the last pullip I needed to go back to owning a complete collection of pullips anyway (still working on the dolls). All the owner photos I have seen of her have been astounding, I feel somewhat guilty that mine has not even made into the apartment proper and has been hanging out still in the shipping crate at the bottom of the stairs ^^; .  I am kind of waiting to debox her until I have the new camera in hand, so I can do her justice. I think I am just going to call her Pan, I can’t bring myself to call her Peter.

After someone pointed out the cult of Tinker Bell and the fact that Fantastic Alice sold out so quickly back in the day, I thought it prudent to fast-track getting her. Plus she looks absolutely adorable in the photos I have seen of her so far.

And Robin Version Ciel, this was the final nail in the coffin. I had already decided that I was in dolly diet mode, then I decided to check VOTD’s site and noticed Robin Ver. Ciel was on sale.  Only one more dal to go on the list now.

I already have Blossom (Puki- Piki) and Buttercup (Puki- Lily) and I figured who better than Pongpong to be the hyper cheerful Bubbles.

I enjoyed seeing the movie, because I know something about Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer is one of my favorite “faith heroes”. A friend introduced me to his “Cost of discipleship” when I was at college and I was delighted to read, some years later, his “Letters from prison”. Dietrich Bonhoeffer was, indeed, a true Christian and a man to admire. So when I learned that “Agent of Grace” was being released, I was immediately caught up. I saw the film some days ago but, sadly, it did not meet my expectations. I found the film rather boring and confusing: from start to end the emotional level is a flat line, no important ups and downs, no emotions spoken out (the scriptwriters apparently forgot the richness and profoundness of “Letters from prison”). The historical backdrop (WW2, Nazi’s rule and conspiracy against Hitler, etc.) is not clear enough for the average spectator to understand what and why things in the film are going on they way they are. But most of all, the movie fails to show the inner struggle of a young man that has everything to loose but chooses to be faithful to his Lord.

A cidade serrana de Petrópolis, no estado do Rio de Janeiro, já foi palco de diversas competições automobilísticas, principalmente entre as décadas de 30 e 60.
O primeiro evento automobilístico na charmosa cidade imperial data de 9 de março de 1908, com a chegada à cidade de um Dietrich pilotado por Gastão de Almeida e Braz e que vinha do Rio de Janeiro. Tratava-se de um raide de resistência.

As corridas de subidas de montanha eram (e ainda são) muito populares na Europa e em 1932, foi realizada a primeira prova “Subida da Montanha” no Rio de Janeiro, disputada na Estrada Rio – Petrópolis. Após esta primeira prova, outras sucederam com a participação de pilotos de diversos estados e vários carros de grandes equipes do Brasil.

Na data de 6 de julho de 1936 realizou-se a primeira corrida nas ruas do centro urbano de Petrópolis. Calcula-se que mais de 20 mil pessoas se deslocavam para o centro urbano a fim de assistir às competições. O publico ficava nas calçadas, isolada apenas por cordas, esticavam seus pescoços para ver os carros se aproximando e formavam uma espécie de funil.
Nos anos 50, Ferraris e Maseratis conquistavam sempre os primeiros lugares no circuito de rua de Petrópolis.
Nos anos 60, Alfa Romeos, BMWs e KG-Porsches rasgavam as ruas e avenidas de paralelepípedo.

Mas a corrida do ano de 1968 foi uma das mais trágicas no Brasil, na qual morreram dois pilotos (Sergio Cardoso, pilotando uma Alfa Romeo, desgovernou-se nos treinos e bateu em um paredão e diversos postes e Joaquim Carlos Telles de Mattos, o “Cacaio”, que foi sinalizar um dos diversos acidentes daquele final de semana e foi atropelado).

Depois dessa data as corridas de rua foram proibidas em Petrópolis.

Heading to meet Mark in Newark, DE, Jackson and I were going over all the information about Mark and trying to figure out some more specific questions to ask him. We got to town and went to Mark’s work to start taking photos there. Mark showed us around and we took our photos, then we had a gap from when mark was done to when we could finish, so the boys and i got a snack, and went to Starbucks to finish the questions for the interview.

Beth, Mark’s wife met us there and offered to take Dietrich to pick up the cheesesteaks and meet us back at the house. This worked out so well.  Dietrich got to go to a fire house and turn on the siren—it was up the street from their house. He loved it.  Jackson and I had a lot of fun finishing up the questions.  I could see how he was beginning to understand “interviewing”.  It is not just asking questions;  it is asking questions that are going to help you understand more about who someone is.  He is still 9, but in his own way he is learning how this is going to work. I guess so am I.

After the interview, we all stayed the night. It was our first night on the road; the boys were excited and so was I.  After they fell asleep, I stayed up and did some writing and downloaded all of the images and audio.  I find it is almost  a compulsion for me to get the files downloaded and backed up as soon as possible—particularly when our schedule is going to be so demanding.  If I wait I run the risk of their getting erased or written over, so it is hard to sleep till I know I have a backup.

Un bel giorno, senza dire niente a nessuno, mi imbarcai su un cargo battente bandiera liberiana. Feci tre volte il giro del mondo, senza mai capire cosa trasportasse quella nave. Ma forse un giorno lo capii…droga! Bei tempi quelli di Manuel Fantoni, indimenticabile alter ego del Sergio Benvenuti di Carlo Verdone, protagonista di Borotalco. Bei tempi perché anche oggi, anzi ancora più di prima, la gente si spaccia per qualcun altro. Ma quanto è più facile ai tempi di internet, anzi in quelli di Facebook, dove basta mettere una foto di chiunque e inventarsi un profilo per sembrare qualcun altro? Volete mettere con l’arte dei mitomani di un tempo, come appunto il Sergio creato da Verdone, che si fingeva Manuel col solo aiuto di un accappatoio, una sigaretta e uno sguardo, mettendosi in gioco in prima persona, e con la propria faccia?

Si scrive Feisbum e si legge Facebook. L’instant movie sul fenomeno di Facebook, il social network più in voga del momento, è fatto di tanti corti affidati a registi diversi che vorrebbero spiegare come cambiano le relazioni sociali nell’era dei profili e dei tag. Ma si concentra soprattutto su una cosa: sull’identità, sulla volontà di essere (o almeno apparire) come qualcun altro, nel turlupinare il prossimo mascherandosi dietro false identità. Vertono su questi aspetti, infatti, la maggior parte degli episodi: da Siempre (uno dei migliori), in cui un ragazzo crea il profilo dell’uomo perfetto per vendicarsi della sua ragazza a Manuel è a Mogadiscio (altra prova interessante) in cui un nerd si finge inviato di guerra, fino a Indian Dream, in cui un meccanico sogna di ripassare l’intero kamasutra con una ragazza indiana, dopo aver visto la sua foto su Facebook. A parte il fatto di farci rimpiangere quelli che un tempo si fingevano un altro con le proprie forze, e non con l’ausilio di un computer, Feisbum non riesce quasi mai a cogliere nel segno. La scrittura degli sketch presenta lo stesso problema che aveva quella de I mostri oggi: manca quasi sempre un’epifania, un finale che riveli, che dia un senso alla vicenda raccontata. Ma soprattutto, per parlare di Facebook si è scelto di trattare aspetti che fanno parte della comunicazione su internet in generale, come la chat erotiche, che ci sono da tempo, molto prima di Facebook. E allora l’effetto è quello del dejà-vù: guardando l’episodio Jessica e Nicola (con un sempre bravo Massimiliano Bruno), in cui due improbabili amanti chattano scambiandosi amene porcherie, viene in mente che la Stefania Rocca di Viola e Clive Owen in Closer l’avevano già fatto.

Qualcosa da salvare c’è, come Maledetto tag, in cui si va a cogliere l’altro aspetto di Facebook che pare preponderante, quello di essere taggati, cioè trovare in rete qualsiasi foto in cui si è immortalati (e che qui fa saltare un matrimonio). O come Angelo azzurro reloaded del collega Serafino Murri, in cui dalla storia tra un professore e una giovane “suicide girl”, che ammicca a quella del famoso film con la Dietrich, impariamo che le cose più belle nascono da un incontro vero e rigorosamente off line. O ancora, nell’ultima pillola che precede i titoli di coda, in cui un vecchio compagno di scuola si vendica di chi lo vessava. Ma in generale lo scarto tra le crisi di identità raccontata da Verdone più di vent’anni fa e quelle di oggi è proprio quello tra quei tempi e i nostri.

E anche, inevitabilmente, tra gli Autori di ieri e quelli di oggi. Aridatece Manuel Fantoni!

The short answer is that Dirk appeared in 1947,  however in the 300s and 400s up until about 1970, then started to slip.  By 1990, he’d left the rankings entirely.

Dirk caught on thanks to handsome British actor Dirk Bogarde.  He’s best remembered for playing opposite Julie Christie in 1965’s Darling.  His career spanned the 1940s through the 1980s, and probably helped keep Dirk visible.

It’s tempting to dismiss Dirk as a fleeting, even invented, 20th century choice.  But that’s not the case.  Dirk Bogarde was born Derek.  And if you keep tracing the name back, you’ll arrive at the German Dietrich or Dieter and Dutch Diederick and the Germanic Theodoric.  Over the years, Theodoric generated plenty of offshoots, including the Welsh name Tudor.

You probably recognize some of the elements.  Ric, of course, means ruler.  But this theo doesn’t reference God; instead, it comes from þeudo – people.  Theodoric means ruler of the people, and he most certainly was.  Kings of the Ostrogoths, Visigoths, Franks and Anglo-Saxons bore the name.

You’d be hard pressed to find a Theodoric after the Renaissance, but variant forms have been steadily in use.  Dirk Willems was a religious martyr back in the sixteenth century; Derek Keppel was a nineteenth-century born aristocrat in service to King George V.

Besides Dirk and Derek, you’ll come across men named Derrick, Derick, Derik, Dereck, Deric, Deryk and more.

Derek remains a Top 200 pick for boys in the US, but most of the others are out of fashion.  Just as Dirk was fading from use for newborns, he exploded in pop culture, thanks to three prominent bearers of the name:

• Television actor Dirk Benedict made a splash in 1978 as Lieutenant Starbuck on the original Battlestar Galactica and later as part of The A-Team;
• In 1997, Mark Wahlberg landed his breakout role as Eddie Addams, an ordinary guy who took the stage name Dirk Diggler and found fame and fortune as a porn star;
• German-born NBA star Dirk Nowitski has played for the Dallas Mavericks since 1998.

Dirk is also a weapon.  It’s not quite like calling your son Dagger, but there is something aggressive about the name.  There’s debate about the word dirk’s origins.  Some point to the Gaelic dearg – knife, while others cite a Germanic source.  Regardless, Dirk would definitely sound more at home with a brother called Gunnar than one named Noah.

It is difficult to tell how Dirk would wear on a boy born in 2009.  While he’s clearly fallen out of favor, hyper-masculine monikers are in vogue with some parents.  Factor in his history and roots, and Dirk might be a more enduring choice than, say, Slade.

So heute war wieder Kino angesagt und diesmal sogar 2 Filme, zuerst “Trauzeuge gesucht” mit Paul Rudd (Mike!!!!) und Jason Segel (Marshall!) und danach gings nocheinmal in “Radio Rock Revolution” diesmal war auch das Jhä dabei. So aber jetzt der Reihe nach.

Das Rhä und Stevie machten sich auf die lange Reise zum Dietrich Theater und der Weg war nicht so lang wie ich befürchtet hatte XD. Angekommen, wurden die Karten an der Süßwarentheke (!)  gekauft und man hockte sich ins “Peach Pit Diner”. Dazu mal, ich liebe das Design, diese “Diner”-Aufmache ist einfach genial, ich mag die Atmosphäre und den Look. So möchte ich einmal mein Esszimmer oder so haben. Ich und das Rhä hatten Pommes und ich hatte noch einen BaKi. Dann machten wir uns auf den Weg zu Kino 8. Dort angekommen mussten wir feststellen das keiner drin war, soll heißen wir waren zu zweit in diesem doch recht großen Kinosaal !!!! Und ja das Dietrich ließ nur für das Rhä und Mich den Film laufen XDDDD. Also ehrlich das sollte jeder von euch einmal erleben, das Gefühl in einem wirklich fast leeren Kinosaal ist einfach unglaublich. Wenn man ganz hinten steht und auf den Saal blickt, das ist einfach ein geniales Bild. So zurück zum Film. Zuerst kam ein bisschen Werbung und dann endlich die Trailer XD. Zuerst kam für “Marie – Ihm schmeckts nich”, kein Film den ich mir anschauen werde. Dann “Hannah Montana”, in den ich natürlich reingehe . Ich meine is ja auch voll meine Musik. So danach kam “Star Treck” Ich will diesen Film sehen!!!!! Dann kam noch für “Illuminati”, Ewan McGregor ^^. Und für “Ice Age 3″, ganz ehrlich meiner Meinung unnötig, ich hab schon Teil 2 nicht mehr angeschaut. So dann begann der Film:

So in dem Film geht es um Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd). Er hat sich gerade mit seiner Freundin Zooey Rice verlobt. Während sie jede Menge von Leuten anruft hat Peter keinen einzigen Menschen den er anrufen möchte. Als das Paar Peters Eltern bescuhen, kommt heraus das er noch nie einen besten Freund hatte, er war schon immer der “Freundinnen-Typ”, der seine Freunde links liegen ließ. Zooey und ihre Freundinnen machen sich Sorgen um Peter und als er das zufällig hört entscheidet er sich sich einen besten Freund zu suchen. Dafür holt er sich Rat bei seinem schwulen Bruder. Nach vielen missglückten (aber unglaublich lustigen) Versuchen, lernt Peter auf der Besichtigungsveranstaltung seines neusten Projekts Sydney Fife (Jason Segel) kennen. Der ist ein unglaublich netter und ehrlicher aber chaotische und verrückter Typ. Beide freunden sich schnell an und erkennen ihrer Gemeinsamkeiten unter anderem lieben beide die Band “Rush” und spielen gerne Musik. (Paul Rudd spielt Bass ^^). Doch zum leidwesen Peters, fühlt sich seine Freundin immer mehr zurückgesetzt und nach einer etwas peinlichen Rede von Sydney streitet sich das Paar immer mehr. Als Sydney einen großen Deal von Peter zunichte macht und Sydney Idee von Reklame auch fehlschlägt beendet Peter die Freundschaft. Später stellt sich heraus das die Reklame Idee von Sydney doch Erfolg hat, doch Peter möchte ihn trotzdem nicht anrufen. Der Termin der Hochzweit rückt immer näher, aber Peter ruft Sydney nicht an sonder lädt andere zur Hochzeit ein und nimmt dann auch seinen Bruder als Trauzeugen. Ob sich Sydney und Peter vertragen und ob Peter und Zooey wirklich heiraten, erfahrt ihr im Kino XD.

Ich gebe dem Film 9/12 E-Gitarrren. Es war ein sehr sehr sehr lustiger Film und auf jeden Fall keine Geldverschwendung, Abzüge gibt es für manchmal recht vorhersehbare Story und manche der Schauspieler, zwar nicht die Hauptdarsteller aber trotzdem.

So nach dem Film, gings zurück an die Kinokasse, Karten vor “Radio Rock Revolution” kaufen. Dann gings Gänseblümchen pflücken (Rhä machte sich einen Kranz) und dann gingen wir wieder ins Peach Pit. Diesmal gabs Bitter Lemon zum Trinken und “Black and White”, dh ein sehr leckerer Brownie, mit vanilleeis und Sahne (zum dahinschmelzen!). Nach dem Essen fand sich dann auch endlich das Jhä ein. Und zu dritt machten wir und auf den Weg ins Kino 7. Eigentlich erwarteten wir noch jemand nämlich das Mhä aber die kam nicht. So das Publikum war nicht besser als letztes Mal, was das Rhä und Mich dazu bracht zu erkennen es liegt an der Uhrzeit an der wir ins Kino gehen. Aber der Film war wieder mal genial. Ich liebe ihn. Und beim zweiten Mal angucken fielen mir mehr Details auf, und ich liebe Details XDDD

Der Film hat Jhä auch gefallen aber nicht so sehr wie Rhä und Mir, was nicht schlimm ist wir mögen sie trotzdem XDDDD

Danach gings zurück zum Bahnhof und dann nach Hause. Da führten wir wieder unglaublich interessante Gespräche, die aber einen eigenen Eintrag bekommen. Und so muss ich leider mein Versprechen an Jhä brechen *schnief* ich hab ihr versprochen einen Eintrag, von “Star Wars länge” zu schreiben, es tut mir leid aber ich finde unsere Gespräche verdienen einen extra Eintrag, Verzeih mir! Bitte!

The Glasgow Film Theatre celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, along with the 70th anniversary of the  picture house that its building originally housed – the Cosmo. To mark the two birthdays, the GFT is devoting Sunday, May 10 to special celebratory events, including the screening of two films voted for by the public – one from 1939 and one from 1974.

Now, much as I love 1970s cinema, I can’t get excited about the choice of films for 1974. Okay, Woody Allen hadn’t yet settled into his film-a-year routine, so that partly explains the absence of a comedy… But then this was the year of Mel Brooks’s Young Frankenstein – and it would have been a popular choice. It was also the year of  the about-to-be-remade Taking of Pelham 1-2-3, the brilliantly suspenseful thriller about the hijacking of a New York subway train, and The Godfather. So clearly 1974 was, as Frank Sinatra would have said, ” a very good year”.

The films in the running for Glasgow’s viewing public to see on May 10 are, I think, a bit of a mixed bag, though, with one title streets ahead of all the others. They are: Lenny, Chinatown (in a superior class all of its own), Celine and Julie Go Boating, The Man With the Golden Gun and A Woman Under the Influence.

Much more appealing (to me anyway) are the 1939 nominations. Mind you, 1939 is regarded by many as the greatest year in Hollywood history. It seems as if every second film was a future classic during that 12-month period - after all, this was the year of The Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind.

Great movies emerged from every genre. Westerns-wise, there was John Ford’s lyrical Stagecoach (with John Wayne), arguably the first classic western; in the comedy category there were such gems as George Cukor’s witty, all-star (and all-female) bitch fest The Women, the western spoof Destry Rides Again (with James Stewart and Marlene Dietrich) and the sparkling Ernst Lubitsch screwball comedy Ninotchka (which had cool beauty Greta Garbo not only laughing but also sending up her own frosty image). Bette Davis triggered more than a few tears that year with two particularly classy melodramas – The Old Maid and Dark Victory. And Jimmy Stewart and director Frank Capra caused hearts to be uplifted with their first collaboration, the idealistic and often very funny political drama Mr Smith Goes to Washington.

Since several of these titles feature on the 1939 list of films to vote for, I’m in a bit of a quandary. Although I suspect it will be The Wizard of Oz that wins the popular vote, and justly so, it would be wonderful to have the chance to see the other films on the big screen. It’s not as if any of them are shown anything like as often as Oz on TV. Ninotchka isn’t even available on Region 2 DVD – unless you fork out £50 for a Garbo box set!

So, the 1939 list of choices is: Stagecoach, Mr Smith Goes to Washington, Ninotchka, The Wizard of Oz and Jean Renoir’s masterly (and eerily premonitary) La Regle du Jeu (The Rules of the Game).

The thing about the Brothers Quay, is that their films can be taken in two quite different, though equally legitimate ways. That is, as deeply profound pieces, with a haunting intensity of perception.. or a collection of disparate moments that ultimately mean sod all.. either way, the result is beautiful and sublime. To be honest, on the whole I’ve never been all that keen on their stop-frame shorts, as blasphemous as that is to admit, given the brothers iconic status in the animation world, but they’re just a little too pretentious for my liking.  That brand of Eastern European animation was pretty draining even in it’s original form, let alone in regurgitated homage. You just know the Quay boys collected milk-bottle tops, went into rhapsodies over spinning toys and purposefully broke the keys on the family piano, just to delight in off notes. Institute Benjamenta uses some of the same imagery and stop-frame effects, but manages to work in harmony with the actors, and resonates with a steady rhythm that is quite hypnotic, weaving a dream-like sensation that both embraces and disturbs  in equal fashion. 

We enter the Institute with Gottfried John, who seeks to learn ‘the divine duty of the servant’, along with a band of oddball potential butlers and waiters. The high point of the film is Alice Krige (yes, ST:TNG’s Borg Queen) as the incredibly sensuous Headmistress, dressed in pure white corset and a quite worrying riding crop that appears to be made from a goat’s hoof. Krige floats about her scenes with a preternatural grace, small traces of ecstatic electricity emerging in flickers across her powerfully emotive features.. or are they almost blank? Odd how those two are so closely realated.  There’s a quite direct link to Pabst’s Diary of a Lost Girl, with it’s sado-masachistic-lesbian Fraulein,  holding sway over The Home for Lost Girls’. Although Pabst chose the quite terrifying Valeska Gert for the role (probably the single most disturbing performance of the entire Silent period), quite in contrast to the striking Alice Krige. The Brothers Quay clearly reference Pabst, but change the dynamic somewhat by making the pupils male, and somewhat complicit in their subordinacy to this dominatrix. 

There’s very little point in overanalysing much more of the plot, other than to say that we journey into the labyrinthine bowels of the Institute, and weave about the increasingly palpable eroticism of Alice Krige’s performance. It’s a prose piece that dwells in a continual dreamstate, the world glimpsed giddily through an eternally smokey filter.. how do the Brothers Quay put it? Oh, yes,  through ‘a dusty window pane.’ The lighting really is exquisite, showing a subtlety that Pabst and Josef von Sternberg would have applauded, treating Alice Krige like a flood-lit Louise Brooks, or a stoic Dietrich, whilst stepping into a Victorian box of curiosities.

Sooo, ja Stevie war Schon wieder im Kino, wer sich jetzt frägt wie sie sich das leisten kann, tja das weiß sie selber nicht XD

2 Filme, 2 Kinos, 2 Städte und 2 Mitkinogucker. Zuerst gings ins Dietrich, mein persönliches Lieblingskino. Ich liebe es, die Atmoshäre ist toll, die Angestellten sind nett und humorvoll und natürlich das Peach Pit. Dazu zu sagen das ich die ‘Dinner-Atmosphäre’ voll liebe. Naja nachdem wir in Ruhe gegessen hatten, gings in den ersten Film und jetzt nicht lachen, es war “17 again – Back to Highschool”

Ja Zac Efron spielt mit, und NEIN wir sind nicht wegen ihm dringewesen (und mit dieser Meinung waren wir ziemlich allein im Kino XD) Ich, und ich glaube das Rhä auch, waren wegen MATTHEW PERRY drin, den meisten bekannt als Chandler aus ‘Friends’, meiner Lieblingsserie. So, als wir uns ins Kino 1 begaben, da war ich schon ewig nicht mehr, wunderten wir uns bereits am Eingang warum kein Kontrolleur anwesend war, davon ließen wir uns aber nicht lange verwirren und begaben uns auf unsere Plätze. Dort merkten wir schnell …… das Publikum war anders als wir, lauter kleine Zac Efron Fans und ein paar Jungs (O_O ich meine das ist wirklich kein Jungsfilm). Auf jeden Fall, nach endloser Werbung, hatte das Dietrich das Gefühl, diese Kiddies würden gute Trailer nicht zu würdigen wissen? Sie hatten Recht auch wenn keine wirklich guten Trailer kamen. Es begann mit “Hannah Montana”, jetzt schon wirklich oft genug gesehen -__-, dann gings weiter mit “Ice Age 3″, und dann ich glaube er hieß “Männerherzen”, der wirkte vll ganz lustig und dann noch “Wo die Wilden Kerle wohnen”, als die Lännifär mich fragte ob ich das Buch kenne, konnte ich antworten ‘ja aus den Simpsons’ und es ist wahr, es gibt eine Folge da kommt das Buch vor……. Hört auf zu lachen! So zum Film, der Film beginnt im Jahre 1989, Mike O’Donnell ist 17 und Star des Basketballteams, Es ist das entscheidene Spiel, an dem natürlich (wie könnte es anders sein) ein Talentscout da ist, der ihm ein Stipendium geben könnte. Doch da taucht seine Freundin auf, Mike rennt natürlich freudig strahlend auf sie zu (und der Filmjunkie weiß schon jetzt was kommt), sie ist bedrückt möchte ihn aber nicht belasten, als sie dann mit der Sprache rausrückt, kommt das erwartete sie ist Schwanger, Mike lässt das Spiel saußen um ihr einen Heiratsantrag zu machen.

20 Jahre späte begegen wir Matthew Perry, er spielt den 37-jährigen  Mike , der hat seiner Meinung nach sein Leben total vergeigt, seine Frau lässt sich von ihm scheiden, seine Kinder hassen ihn, und er wohnt bei seinem besten Freund Ned, der ist stinkreich aber ein kleiner Freak (Star Wars, Herr der Ringe usw) Als aus Mikes erhofften Beförderung auch nichts wird, geht er zurück zu seiner alten Highschool und trifft einen alten geheimnisvollen Mann (den Weihnachtsmann), als er am Abend zurück nach Hause fährt, sieht er eben jenen alten Mann auf einer Brüstung stehen, als dieser plötzlich verschwindet ’springt’ Mike hinterher und wird wieder 17.

Mit der Chance seinen Leben auf die Bahn zu kriegen, schreibt sich Mike, mit Ned als Vater, an seiner alten Schule ein. Dort bemerkt er das seine Tochter Maggie mit dem Schulschläger und Kapitän des Basketballteams Stan zusammen ist, der auch ihren kleinen Bruder Alex mobbt. Mike merkt das seine neue Chance dazu da ist seinen Kindern zu helfen. Durch ihn bekommt Alex einen Platz im Basketballteam und das Mädchen seiner Träume. Auch seiner Ehefrau Scarlett hilft er im Garten um ihr ein wenig Nahe zu sein.

Ned hat sich währendessen in die Direktorin verliebt, nach jeder Menge erfolgloser Versuche, entdecken beide ihre gemeinsame Liebe zu Herr der Ringe. Als sie sich auf den Weg zu Ned nach Hause machen, bemerken sie die Party, die Mike wegen eines gewohnen Basketballspiels gibt. Als Scarlett auf der Suche nach ALex auf der Party erscheint wird Mike von seinen Gefühlen übermannt und küsst sie, darauf fängt er sich mehrere Ohrfeigen ein.

Am nächsten Morgen wird Mike von Ned an seinen Scheidungstermin erinnert. Ein bisschen später macht Mike beim Meisterschaftsspiel eine Geste, die Scarlett endlich erkennen läst, wer er ist. Um nicht wieder die gleichen Fehler zu machen wie vor 20 Jahren, flieht sie aus der Turnhalle und Mike lässt wieder das Spiel saußen und rennt ihr hinterher und der ‘Hausmeister’ verwandelt ihn zurück in einen Erwachsenen. Am Schluss ist Mike wieder glücklich mit seiner Familie vereint und wird von der Direktorin, der mit Ned zusammen gekommen ist, zum Trainer des Basketballteams ernannt.

Das Zac Efron von seiner Filmtochter kurzer Zeit für Schwul gehalten wird und das er Enthaltsamkeit predigt obwohl er (im Film) selber in der Highschool seine Frau geschwängert hat, waren (für mich) kleine Höhepunkte.

So was ist noch, es gibt 8/12 Basketbällen. Warum? Die Story ist doch sehr vorhersehbar und irgendwie kommt auch nichts wirklich neues aber es ist lustig und unterhaltsam, der Fremschämfaktor ist sehr sehr hoch XD. Zac Efron spielt nicht schlecht und die Kombi Sonnebrille/Lederjacke steht ihm sogar.  Die Synchronstimme von Scarlett war irgendwie seltsam. Auf jeden Fall kein Reinfall.

So dann gings weiter zum Xinedom, um sich dort “Duplicity – Gemeinsame Geheimsachen anzuschauen”. Das Xinedom hat meine letzte Sympahtie verloren. Wo ist die Logik das es Schülerermäßigung nur bis 18:30 gibt? Bin ich ab 18:30 kein Schüler mehr? Bin ich nur Halbtags Schüler? Beim Dietrich *schleichwerbung mach* kriegt man noch in der Spätvorstellung (23:00) noch Schülerermäßigung.

So, das Publikum war zu 85% weiblich und es kam am Anfang (Überaschung!) Werbung. Trailer kamen zu “Selbst ist die Braut”, hab ich glaub schonmal erwähnt, klingt echt lustig. Dann kam noch “Maria ihm schmeckts nicht”, “Brüno” und “Flash of Genius”, ein sehr interessanter Film und auf meiner Kinogehliste.

So zum Film: Der Film beginnt am 4. Juli 2003 in Dubai. Der MI6-SpionRay Koval trifft in der amerikanischen Botschaft auf die CIA-Agentin Claire Stenwick. Er verführt sie und sie betäubt ihn um ägyptische Raketencodes von ihm zu stehlen. Drei Jahre später treffen sich die zwei in Rom wieder. Dort beginnt eine Liebesbeziehung zwischen ihnen. Claire kommt mit der Idee auf als Agenten auf zu hören und zu ‘privatisieren’ , und dabei ein Vermögen zu verdienen.

Claire wird von equikrom angeheuert um als Spionin bei Burkett & Randle (B&R), dem Konkurrennten, in der Spionageabwehr zu arbeiten. Als der Chef von B&R, Howard Tully, ein neues Produkt ankündigt, das  um jeden Preis geheimgehalten werden muss, erfährt sein Konkurrent Richard Garsik, neun Tage vor seiner Aktionärsversammlung, über eine Kopie einer Rede davon.  Er setzt darauf hin alles daran, herauszufinden was das für ein Produkt ist. Seine Spionageabteilung kann mittels Ray Zugang zum Reiseservice von B&R und so können sie die Reisedaten der letzten 6 Jahre kopieren. Auperdem zapfen sie die Kopierer von B&R an.

Sie finden eine kleine Firma in Georgia, die im Bereich Biotechnologie tätig sein soll. Sie stoßen abei auch auf Dr Ronny Partiz, ein Wunderkind das später von der Uni flog. B&R hatte seine kleine Frima aufgekauft, seitdem wohnt Ronny auf den Bahamas in einer Penthousesuite. Ray und ein weiterer Kollege versuchen Ronnys Zimmer auszuspionieren, werden jedoch von Claire und einem ihrer Kollegen, aufgehalten. B&R holt daraufhin Ronny nach NewYork zurück. Danach teil Tully sein Wissen um das neue Produkt mit Claire, es handelt sich dabie um ein Haarwachsmittel, was Haarausfall stoppen kann.

Garsik versucht nun die Formel zu bekommen. Es ergibt sich eine günstige Gelegenheit als ein Kollege von Claire die Formel zu stehlen. Sie verkelbt ihm daraufhin die AUgen und Mund um nach einem angezapften Kopierer zu suchen. Der erste Ausdruck scheint misslungen, jedoch hat Ry die Seiten vertauscht. Nach Abschluss des Diebstahles kommt Claire in die Spionagezentrale von equikrom und macht Ray Vorwürfe, er hätte den Einsatz gefährdet. Als Ray daraufhin durchsucht wird, wird bei ihm die Kopie der Formel gefunden.

Claire reist nach Zürich, um sich mit Käufern der Formel zu treffen. Als Ray hinzustößt haben beide eine Kopie der Formel. Gleichzeitig zum Verkauf der FOrmle hält Garsik seine Aktonäsversammlung ab.  Am Verkaufstisch in der Schweiz erfahren Claire und Ray, das die Formel eine ganz normale Boy-Lotion ist. Garsik hat währendessen das Haarwuchsmittel sienen Aktionären angekündigt. Als Claire und Ry nach dem geplatzten Verkauf in der Lobby eines Hotels sitzen, bekommen sie eine Flasche Champagner mit einer Grußkarte von Howard Tully bekommen.

So, der Film war manchmal leicht verwirrend, aber sehr lustig und unterhaltsam. Eine gute Abendunterhaltung. 9,5/12 Shampoos.

Was ist zu diesem Tag noch zu sagen, ich bin pleite, da ich mir ja unbedingt noch einen Manga kaufen musste -_-

We’re no longer able to agree on wh0 is old, middle-aged or young. Actual ages like 40 or 50, 60 or 70, seem to have little meaning. Because of cosmetics and skin cream,  one can appear to be 10 or 20 years younger. But all things considered, the ladies could go on  being femmes fatales into their 60s and 70s. Think of Marlene Dietrich who died at 90 and was still proud of her beautiful gams and if you believe the rumors, was still capable of making love late in life.
