Okay I cannot go another minute without telling you about the diet I am going to start. You know the cool thing is you are going to be there with me every step of the way For any bigger than they want to be woman, I will be your guinea pig!! Lucky you!

Just so you know, I am not a fad dieter, and don’t do just every diet that passes by. I research, look at statistics, read and then, and only then if it makes sense will I give it my all. I think the only mistake I made was thinking that The Atkins diet was good for you. Here are some of my favorite diets, and actually pretty much the only ones I have ever done.

1. Herbal Life www.herbalife.com – this was not such a bad diet, good for some not for others. I don’t have a lot to say about it because it’s been years. I think the problem I have with it, is you can only go for so long with shakes and pills all day. But I think it’s a good start or boost for anyone.

2. Fit For Life – www.fitforlifetime.com – Funny I read this book back when I was 19 or so. I think it’s one of those books that just no matter what most of it works, makes sense and is like duh, everyone needs to read or know this! Even if you don’t end up following it, it is a TRULY good and amazing book and another one that totally changed my life

3. Atkins Diet – Well I read the book and followed it and hated it. I felt like crap eating all that meat and mayonaise really who are we kidding? After a week I was weak and not feeling well. So yes you can and prbably will loose weight on this but really folks my opinion I wouldn’t touch it.

4. The Zone – www.zonediet.com – I love this diet. I agree with it and have nothing negative to say about it. From what I heard Jennifer Aniston has been On or In The Zone since the book came out It’s a good read, and wouldn’t heard reading it and seeing if it’s a good fit for you.

5. 1st Personal Diet – www.1stpersonaldiet.com This folks so far has got to be one of my all time favorites. I did this diet about 2 years ago, and lost 30 lbs in about 1 1/2 months. I kept it off for about a year. The circumstances of why I gained it back are two reasons, 1. I did NOT do the re-feeding which is the end of the diet as they suggest and say is vitally important and 2) I started a new job with lots of stress and my boss kept buying me yummy food while I sat at my new found desk. To be honest, I did try to re-start it a few times and I just couldn’t do it, can’t say why. However out of all the above, this one is my FAVORITE thus far, and let me add as far as loosing weight at a quick rate and remaining healthy

Okay now back to the diet I am starting….it is the HCG diet. A little info is that I was told about his diet from my mother a year ago, she did it and OH MY GOD, she went from a size 9 at 5′2 to size 5/6 in about 2 months and is still at a size 6 as of today 12/02/09. She loves it and raved, and has been trying to get me on it for that same length of time. I balked at it only because it was similar to 1st personal diet from everything she told me. However the injections or now new oral HCG that you take is what makes it all work and stay off for good. Then my uncle did it, my friend, another friend, another and even my 18-year-old cousin, wow….they all are super skinny and doing GREAT. Then my old Doctor/Chiropractor did it and now administers it for other and sells it on his site, so I decided THAT’s it! I personally need to see results, so I am going for it! FYI this information on this diet is very old and supposedly the guy who wrote it was assassinated due to the findings on this thing. So there you have it. I still need to order it which I will be doing and I promise to give you a DAY BY DAY info on how it goes I am so excited!

Here is my old Doctor/Chiropractor that has it, it’s under the tab that says HCG www.drpricedc.com

We have reached the end of another decade, if you’re reading this… Congratulations, you survived. To sum up some of the low-lights of this decade, I have compiled my list of worst trends. Not that I’m not thankful to live in peace with a moderate terror risk, but I could have lived without the following:

10. Vampires

The most recent addition to the list; girls love vampires. Wait. Girls love vampires?! Sheesh… kids these days.

Note: This is trend could potentially become worse over the next 29 days

9. American Idol

The biggest thing going on television, American Idol created short-lived music careers for unknowns who could stand to be harassed by three total lunatics. Congratulations to those of you who still have record contracts.

8. Oversized Sunglasses

Any female’s collection is incomplete without a pair of sunglasses that span 45% of your face. It would be dangerous to wear these anywhere other than over your face… because they could certainly poke an eye out.

7. Crocs

“But… they’re so comfortable!!”

6. Diets

Atkins, South Beach, etc. Try the treadmill sweetie-pie.

5. Livestrong bracelets

I know… I know, Livestrong bracelets fund cancer research. But with all the competitors and gas station knock-offs, it became pretty ridiculous. I came home from college one weekend and my parents had on “Hope For Natalee Holloway” bracelets… these S.O.B.’s hit a little too close to home.

4. Ringtones

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us (and on our hips and thighs) it’s time to talk strategy for the rest of the holiday eating season. Did you know you the average person packs on about 5 extra pounds between now and New Year’s?

It’s not hard to see why…holiday cookies, candies, egg nog, a holiday cocktail party (or two) every weekend…the eating is endless! Now I’m not saying you should deny yourself these treats, but remember they are that…treats…to be enjoyed in moderation. But if you need some hard/fast rules to nosh by here are a few tips:

Exercise the day of the party so you’ll be more focused when faced with tempting foods.

Have a small, nutritious snack before you go.

Fill up on zero- or low-calorie beverages.

Drink a glass of water between every alcoholic beverage.

Don’t stand near the food table. — I LOVE THIS IDEA! So simple, yet effective!

Shaycarl, youtube personality, inspired me to try a fruit and veg diet for a week to try and lose my final few unwanted pounds (I lost two and a half stone earlier in the year and I’m now literally talking about a few pounds). He was doing his for 20 days and I was only going to do mine for 7, how hard could it be? Impossible is the answer, there’s only so much fruit and veg I can consume in a day. There comes a point when I’ve eaten so much of it and I’m still slightly hungry but I can’t face having another apple. Really though, I’m not concerned. There are other ways to diet and lose weight, you don’t need a really strict diet like this for it to work.

After my big push to lose weight this year, I’ve calmed down on the whole exercise thing. I still swim twice a week but mainly I just make sure I don’t eat ‘crap’ (cakes, biscuits, crips) not to say I’ve cut them out completely, that would be madness. Just keep an eye on them.

Too lose my final few pounds I’m just going to do what I did last time, more exercise and eat less ‘crap’. I’m saying all of this because I know there are people out there who want to lose weight, and think its some magical thing that is almost impossible to do. It isn’t, it’s almost easy to do. Don’t bother wasting time and money of diet plans that are anything more complicated than 1. exercise and 2. don’t eat junk, because it doesn’t need to be.

If you think I’m going to say, quit smoking the ganja, you are quite wrong my friend. In fact

If you think I’m going to say, quit smoking the ganja, you are quite wrong my friend. In fact all in all I think when I smoke the green herb of life I feel less inclined to eat, but it is true that every once in awhile I will feel the innate urge to raid the entire house and open seven cans of soup, toast a loaf of bread, or maybe even feel desperate enough to spin together some delicious pancakes and a pop can pipe (oh brother, where art thou).

So I sat on my couch tonight watching “The Biggest Loser”, crying…sobbing, wailing, all alone in my living room. I have become inappropriately and emotionally involved with the show this particular year and I suppose it’s because one of the girls reminds me of myself, and I certainly don’t want to continue to cascade down the fat hill that I am rolling on. There was a certain point in the show where the contestants were running a 26 mile marathon and I thought to myself, that would never happen, because I hate running, and I hate working out. Probably not a key way to become “The Biggest Loser”. However, sitting on the couch eating, watching “The Biggest Loser”, and believing that I might be infected with the H1N1 most likely isn’t the way to this goal either. So I came up with a list of personal challenges for myself in my goal to become the biggest loser. . . .

1. Don’t eat so much. It’s not necessary nor is it healthy to spend an in-excess of $400 a month on fast food items. Mostly made up of carbs, fat, sugar, and a big dollop of feeling gross afterwards.

2. Start actually exercising! By this I mean don’t go to the gym and get on the treadmill or bike and watch TV or read a book while moving at an impeccable slow pace, or take massive amounts of time in between machines and stand around staring at people who are better looking than you, because they are actually utilizing their time at the gym, or hob knobbing around at the water fountain.

3. Start dancing again! Crank up that Bob Marley and smoke a joint. Let the music take you into a world of looking like a fool alone in your living room and just go with it!

4. Get Happy. Don’t forget to take your medication Einstein.

5. Find a new hobby. Other than sitting around eating.

6. Get some new friends. Ones that don’t just want to go to a club and get sloshed, but who can go somewhere, have a drink or two, enjoy the company, listen to music and have interests other than whoring around and having too much to drink.

And last but not least….ELIMINATION.

This is something I did about 6 months ago, inspired by Anthony Robbins and my counselor. Make a list of all of the negative things or people in your life, that make you feel less than awesome about yourself, or have a negative impact on you in any way. I have decided that because of my ridiculously dysfunctional friends and some of the arrogant goals I have set for myself, that it is time to reassess and redo the ELIMINATION process.

Ganja Girl’s Most Important Elimination List!

1. M. Yes, that’s right, the ex boyfriend who is like a Jack in the Box of misery. Just randomly sending texts, making obscene and inappropriate phone calls, writing sweet and completely unnecessary messages whenever I feel myself “getting over him”. Just never seems to have any closure to it. Time to SHUT IT DOWN as Gordan Ramsay would say (I’m reading his biography btw)

2. NEIGHBORS. I’m working on this one…it’s my most difficult task of all. Trying to eliminate people who live beside me on both sides is an impossible task, however I must do what I can. Long story short woman, husband, three kids move in beside me and befriend me. Woman’s mother, younger sister, her boyfriend, younger brother, and younger brother’s best friend move in on the opposite side of me. Seem like great people. Woman is obese, never shaves her legs, often has greasy hair, doesn’t wear a decent bra, has a huge growth on her head that often breaks open, and randomly has affairs with her husbands best friend since he was fifteen years old (and tries to get me to cover for her, or just TELLS me that I am), and her younger 19 year old brother’s best friend, who has also slept with her younger sister. To make matters worse, her husband and her met through her mother, who was sleeping with and dating her husband at the time. Her younger sister….is a beauty queen and has an ugly shit-eating maggoty little boyfriend whom she cheats on constantly, and yes, woman tried to sleep with him too. As you can see, I no longer need to tune into shows, such as Desperate Housewives when I have a living Jerry Springer drama right here in my own living quarters. You can see where this would be stressful and need to be eliminated….but how?

3. BEST FRIEND R. Yes, my male best friend, my Boif as I call him. He’s a lying, cheating, slutty, man whore, gambling addict (he’s currently working 2 jobs to pay off $8000 worth of debt from gambling accumulated within a two month span), recovering and relapsing cocaine addict (he snorted over ten lines on his birthday night and wound up at some random hotel on the west end of the city. He even “might” know someone named Kiwi Terry he thinks?), a pot smoker, cigarette smoker, swearing, egotistical, crass asshole. However he is my best guy friend and no one will ever know the extent of our close bond, but he helped me through a mega-trauma and we have been through a lot together. He is also a good friend, trustworthy, loyal, sweet, wears his heart on his sleeve, and is always there when you need a shoulder. So why the sudden elimination of Boif? Well he has found himself a bible thumping purity angel in every sense of the way. Now don’t get me wrong, I am a believer in God, and I was raised a Christian so I do have some moral background, but she is in a whole new category of “goodness”. Has never tried a sip of alcohol, never swears, has never touched a smoke, has never kissed a guy before him, so quite clearly a virgin who’s never sucked a dick in her life. She believes I must have been dropped down from the devil himself because I have three kids out of wedlock and refuses to let him talk, text, message or see me any longer because she is a jealous insecure little bastard who has no concept of what true friendship is. Boif and I have spent more time together in tiny rooms, confined spaces, and small elevators, cars and offices in the last year and a half than most married couples and we have never had sex. Why? Because we don’t want to, never have…and never will. This is has been a huge point of stress the last while, trying to maintain a friendship and having to see him sneak around to come hang out and smoke one, or see him leave a pub early because a band that he’s crazy about suddenly “Isn’t OUR type of music” as she put it. So I have already eliminated the situation by just not even making any attempt to continue the friendship. I’m sure when it all falls apart for him and she finds out all of his little secrets, (because heaven forbid she know about his past & present drug addictions, or his cigarette smoking!) he’ll come to me for the support and comfort. However I am just not willing to stress about it anymore and have let it wash away….

4. C. Now I don’t want to ELIMINATE my middle special needs child, but somehow finding a way of coping mentally and physically with his behaviors would be key. I am working on that. I have a class weekly and he is starting to go into a daycare once a week starting this Friday. Oh the bells will be ringing!!!

5. Weight. Yup, we know I have a problem, 11 lbs in two weeks just isn’t working for me, and it’s not doing anything for my health or self esteem. Time to crack the whip smartass.

6. S. S is a musician friend of the ex. He needs to go away. He’s attractive, he’s funny, we have the sexual chemistry, he likes me, and he is one of the ex’s best friends and previous roomies. He needs to sink into his musical abyss and never be seen again. The temptation is always there to start something wildly inappropriate and entertaining with him, but I know that it would deep down be a ploy to upset my ex and it’s just not fair to either of us. Sad to say that I have to cut off all communication with S, and I know that this will hurt him, but it can just be temporary until I have completely healed and and have diminished feelings for the ex.

7. K. The father of my kids. Needs to just join the paddy wagon to going away. As per my younger and wiser brother’s advice I have slowly been weaning his old ass off of mine and inviting him over less, making sure he knows he has a set responsibility to come watch the kids while I work or for my oldest son’s soccer practice on Monday night. It’s going smoothly, but it is a difficult process, especially when his mother is a raging psychopath who randomly messages me or posts really retarded threatening comments on my business blog.

8. Workload. Yup, it’s a hefty one. I must say I accomplished the impossible this year…39 weddings, more weddings than any other photographer in my city booked. More than the most well known photographer in my city, who booked less than half of that. So my solution to cutting my workload in half, is to raise my prices considerably. Less bookings, more money, more time to edit. But getting caught up on what I have right now is stressing me out and I need to eliminate that issue.

Now I could probably think of far more things in my life to eliminate and one of them would be finding a housekeeper. My house has not been up to par lately what with being overworked and having a thrown out back, but this would be a huge relief off of my chest. Molly Maid here I come! Quite honestly this post has become long and unnecessarily boring with the dramas of my daily life.

Time to go edit some pictures! Peace out..

Most of us know weight loss requires consuming fewer calories than the body uses. Losing ½ pound of

Most of us know weight loss requires consuming fewer calories than the body uses. Losing ½ pound of fat by dieting requires 10 days of consuming 200 fewer calories or 5 to 7 days of consuming 400 fewer calories per day than the body uses. One pound of body fat stores about 3,500 calories. Most conservative weight loss diets involve consuming at least 1,200 to 1,400 calories a day. When rapid weight loss is needed, fewer than 1,200 calories may be consumed, but only for a short time. Such diets often have too little of essential nutrients, such as protein, iron, and calcium. Consuming fewer than 800 calories does not increase the amount of weight lost and is harder to tolerate.

For us to be healthy, weight loss diets should provide about the same volume of food (by including more fiber and fluids) as the normal diet. They should also be low in saturated fat and sugar and include essential nutrients, including antioxidants. The following general guidelines may help people lose weight:
Reading food labels: People learn what nutrients and how many calories food, including beverages, contains. Then, people can plan their diet more effectively.
Counting calories: People keep track of the number of calories they eat. This strategy helps people control calorie intake. Choosing nutrient-rich, low-calorie foods: When fewer calories are consumed, getting the needed nutrients-particularly vitamins and minerals-is more difficult. So people should choose foods that contain many nutrients but not many calories. Whole-grain cereals and whole-grain breads that are fortified with vitamins are good choices. Fruits and vegetables that are deeply colored (such as strawberries, peaches, broccoli, spinach, and squash) tend to contain more nutrients than those that are less deeply colored.
Eating small meals frequently: This strategy can help with weight loss for several reasons. Insulin levels usually increase after eating, and more insulin is produced when many calories are consumed, especially when the meal is rich in carbohydrates. High insulin levels promote the deposition of fat and increase appetite. Eating small, frequent meals prevents insulin levels from increasing, thus discouraging fat deposition and helping suppress appetite.
Eating certain types of foods at certain times of the day: For example, fast-energy foods, such as carbohydrates, are best eaten when the body needs a large supply of energy-that is, in the morning and during vigorous exercise. The body’s need for energy is lowest at night, so avoiding carbohydrates in the evening may help
.
If one stops using sugar and fat substitutes: Such substitutes and foods that contain them can sometimes help people reduce calorie intake. However, in some cases, sugar substitutes have effects on metabolism that slow the rate of weight loss.Exercising: Combining increased exercise with dieting greatly enhances weight loss because exercise increases the number of calories the body uses. For example, vigorous walking burns about 4 calories per minute, so that 1 hour of brisk walking per day burns about 240 calories. Running is even better, burning about 6 to 8 calories per minute.

Many people follow a specific diet to lose weight.High Protein-Low Carbohydrate Diets: Diets high in protein and low in simple carbohydrates have become popular as a way to lose weight. Most of these diets usually also restrict fat because each gram of fat supplies so many calories. However, some high protein-low carbohydrate diets, such as the Atkins diet, do not restrict fat.

The theory behind these diets is that slower-burning energy sources-protein and fat-provide a steady supply of energy and thus are less likely to lead to weight gain. In addition, people tend to feel full longer after eating protein than after eating carbohydrates because carbohydrates empty from the stomach quickly and are digested quickly. Carbohydrates also stimulate insulin production, which promotes fat deposition and increases appetite. However, the reason that these diets cause weight loss appears to be that people tire of the foods allowed by the diet and thus consume fewer calories.Experts disagree about whether avoiding foods with a high glycemic index helps with weight loss, particularly in low-carbohydrate diets, or not. The effect of the glycemic index is less important when only a small percentage of total calories is carbohydrates. In a low-carbohydrate diet, the difference between how fast the carbohydrates in various foods (with their different glycemic indexes) are digested is sometimes so small that it makes little difference to most dieters. Avoiding foods with a high glycemic index also sometimes eliminates foods with valuable vitamins and minerals. Experts also disagree on how important the glycemic load (the glycemic index plus the amount of carbohydrate in a food) is for weight loss. Some experts do not recommend following a high-protein diet for a long time. Some evidence suggests that over years, very high protein diets impair kidney function and may contribute to the decrease in kidney function that occurs in older people. People with certain kidney and liver disorders should not consume a high-protein diet. High-protein diets can speed the body’s processing of certain drugs and thus may affect how well the drug works
.
Very low carbohydrate diets (of less than 100 grams a day) can lead to the accumulation of keto acids (ketosis). When people do not consume enough energy for the body’s needs, the body breaks down fats. As part of this process, the body produces keto acids. In small amounts, keto acids are easily excreted by the kidneys without causing symptoms. However, in large amounts, they can cause nausea, fatigue, bad breath, and even more serious symptoms, such as dizziness (due to dehydration) and abnormal heart rhythms (due to electrolyte imbalances). People following a low-carbohydrate diet (or any other weight loss diet) should drink large amounts of water to help flush keto acids from the body.
Low-carbohydrate diets tend to cause large amounts of weight to be lost during the first week or so, as the body converts stored carbohydrates (glycogen) to energy. As glycogen is broken down, the body also excretes large amounts of water, adding to the weight loss. However, once the body begins to use stored fat for energy, weight loss slows. People following a low-carbohydrate diet may substitute fats for the carbohydrates they are avoiding. In such cases, the diet may be so high in fat that the total caloric intake exceeds what the body uses. In such cases, weight loss stops after glycogen is used up.
Low-Fat Diets: Fat supplies a large number of calories per gram and is more readily deposited as body fat than are proteins and carbohydrates. Reducing the amount of fat rather than the amount of protein or carbohydrate may be an easier way to reduce total caloric intake because a small reduction in fat saves so many calories. A reduction of only 10 grams of fat per day saves about 90 calories. However, the best reason for reducing the amount of fat in the diet is to lower cholesterol levels in the blood Lowering cholesterol levels benefits most dieters because weight increases their risk of atherosclerosis, which can lead to heart attacks or stroke. Because lowering cholesterol levels can help prevent or delay atherosclerosis, a low-fat diet tends to be the best weight loss diet for overall health. High-Fiber Diets: Fiber indirectly helps with weight loss in several ways: It provides bulk, which makes people feel full faster. It slows the rate at which the stomach empties so people feel full longer.
It requires more chewing, forcing people to eat more slowly and perhaps less.

And dont forget that high-fiber foods, such as fruits and vegetables, wheat bread, and beans, are filling without providing many calories. Eating more high-fiber foods may enable people to eat fewer less filling, high-calorie foods, such as high-fat foods. However, fiber supplements, such as guar gum and cellulose, are not effective for weight loss.

For multiTRIM information, go to: multiTRIM. Pounds Lost: 54.8 The very important, never-to-be-fo

For multiTRIM information, go to: multiTRIM.

Pounds Lost: 54.8

The very important, never-to-be-forgotten bottom line is this: Do you stay on trend?

Long Range Goal

By trend, we mean that long sloping line you draw from where you are starting out to the goal you are aiming for. All you do, all the calories you count, all that sweating on the treadmill, all those brisk walks and gallons of water you consume have only one aim in mind: Stay on Trend so that you indeed will hit your long range goal.

Holidays

All major holidays have one common denominator: Food. Calorie-rich food. In massive quantities. The American tradition is to go unconscious from over-eating in front of a Thanksgiving Day football game. Not to do this might be considered suspect in some quarters.

Staying on diet on these occasions may be seen as outright treason.

Okay, we exaggerate. But the point is: You are not wearing the equivalent of a dietary chastity belt. The Diet-Police is not going to arrest you for eating a scoop of ice cream, and the Diet-Jury is not going to find you guilty of Christmas ham violations. Living is allowed.

Ease Up—Don’t Let Go

When you want to enjoy some of the culinary holiday cheer, remember this: You may ease up on your calorie counting and strict dietary regimen, but don’t let go of your overall goal and the trend that gets you there.

By all means, enjoy some excellent mashed potatoes, but stick to moderation, and return to your stricter regimen the moment the special event is over.

That way, even if you gain a pound or two one week, you will quickly lose it again, and more, and so continue down your plotted trend.

Today, being 12/1, and finding out yesterday that FET #1 was a total bust, I thought it would be a good test run for New Year’s Day and have started a hybrid diet of Atkins and Weight Watchers — two diets that rarely intersect. An Atkins Advantage bar is 4 pts. That’s a lot when you consider a Fiber One bar is only 2 — and they’re the same size.

I have ballooned since moving to LA. I went from a healthy 140 lbs. to 152 lbs. to my “oh-shit” weight of 160 lbs!!! There is probably no way to lose the poundage for New Year’s Eve, but maybe 8 lbs. in the next four weeks? That seems doable. Sorta. I mean, I’ve never done it before, but there’s a first time for everything.

Those people on the Biggest Loser lose that in a week. Granted, they’re huge to begin with and they have that fire-breathing monster, Jillian, to make them work out.

I got on the scales Monday and discovered someone had been tampering with them. I had gained 5 pounds. Obviously it wasn’t me…someone fiddled with the little dial that regulates the balance of the scale and tipped it up 5 pounds. I’m staying with that.

It couldn’t possibly be the overindulgence of the holiday season already. It’s far too soon to gain weight; there has only been one substantial “holiday” meal; Thanksgiving. I don’t overeat on Thanksgiving routinely; just one serving of a few things. The traditional foods chosen for Thanksgiving are not my favorites. I abhor hot, roasted, carved-up turkey. Blechh. Not interested in potatoes, but I’ll eat a little stuffing. Devoted Spouse hates pumpkin pie; I hate mincemeat. We usually skip the pie and have a little ice cream. So why the 5 pounds?

Well, I read somewhere that if you eat while sitting in front of a tv you will gain weight because you consume more calories without thinking. I believe the magic number was something on the order of 288 extra calories. Multiply those extra 288 calories by a few tv sessions and pretty soon you have 5 pounds. That made sense to me; we do eat in front of the tv entirely too often.

In fact, many of our meals are taken while one of us is on the couch and the other in a recliner and both of us are tuned into some mundane program. Come to think of it, Thanksgiving Day dinner was also eaten while sitting in front of the tv. Since it was just the two of us, it was a casual meal and it was served in the family room, not the dining room. And, I may have eaten an extra roll and had more cranberry sauce than was actually needed.

Darnitall, I think I’m on to something here. Empty calories consumed in front of the tv = extra weight on already too large backside.

From now on I’m turning off the tv. I’ll eat my cookies and ice cream at the dining room table instead, where they won’t count because there’s no tv in the dining room. Stupid tv. Problem solved.

Sugar is found in just about every processed and manufactured food you can think of. Even a lot of

Sugar is found in just about every processed and manufactured food you can think of. Even a lot of healthy carbohydrate foods like “whole grain” cereals and breads have one kind of sweetener or another. It is difficult to locate products without supplementary sugar.

Look a the content label of nearly any canned or boxed food product and you will in all probability notice sugar, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, cane juice, and a multitude of other sweeteners. Even if you don’t consume soda pop or eat lots of candy or energy bars you’re getting a more than adequate supply of sugar. In fact, you’re in all probability getting so much sugar that stopping cold turkey would produce some symptoms of sugar dependence. A few studies reveal that sugar alters the opioids and dopamine in the brain and activates the beta endorphin receptor sites. Reducing sugar consumption severely will produce a strong desire and the urge to go on a sugar splurge.

One of the difficulties with sugar is that it is associated with your energy level and your general health. When you eat sweetened foods your blood glucose level rises, your pancreas secretes the hormone insulin to cause your liver, muscles and fat cells to take up excess glucose, thus reducing the blood glucose level. This can result in low blood glucose levels that will make you feel exhausted. You will then crave additional sugar and this cycle starts all over again.

Diets that call for the short-term elimination or long term reduction of carbohydrates, like the Atkins diet, are often very difficult to adhere to. Cravings for sugar are too strong for many to remain committed to such diets.

There is s an approach to manage and lessen your sugar cravings, And, that is with proper meal planning. By planning and preparing wholesome meals with a favorable balance of protein, fat and fiber you are able help sustain a more uniform blood sugar level and prevent sugar desires. Also, eat reduced servings in more frequent meals. Studies have found that when the time between meals increased, the total number of calories eaten in a day rose and the nutritional value of the meals decreased.

In other words, the most effective way to cut sugar cravings is to plan smaller, nourishing meals and eat more frequently. This will steady your blood sugar levels and keep you feeling full of life all day long.

Between meals, perhaps your best snack is water. You understand we should all drink more water. And, additional water also fills your stomach and cuts your appetite. This helps you keep away from the sweetened snacks that add both uncalled for calories and unhealthy refined carbs.

If you desire to reward yourself with a snack there are now lots of reduced carbohydrate snacks available. You can buy low carb food bars, yogurt, and even low carbohydrate ice cream. So, plan your snacks by getting more wholesome low carb snacks.

After you have your blood glucose leveled out for a couple of weeks, you may be prepared to effectively start your no carb or low carbohydrate diet. Appropriate planning makes all the difference.

Insanity Why diets are stupid and why we fall for the gimmicks Atkins. South Beach. Zone. Master Cle

Insanity

Why diets are stupid and why we fall for the gimmicks

Atkins. South Beach. Zone. Master Cleanse. Everywhere you look there’s a new diet touting amazing weight loss and tremendous results with almost no effort. These diets are as ubiquitous as they are flawed and, yet, we continue to fall for the gimmicks to the tune of billions of dollars per year in search of the quick or easy fix to our soaring obesity rates.

Insanity

The ads for these weight loss techniques dominate every facet of our media. They’re all over tv and radio, occupy seemingly half the internet banner ads, and disguise themselves cleverly as news clippings touting how Jenny A. from Austin, TX lost 30 lbs. in 30 days, or how John M. from Portland, Maine went from pathetic to pumped in just 2 short weeks!

The marketers can make statements like these (accompanied by heavy disclaimers) because someone at some point managed to achieve results using whatever diet they’re now pitching. But the majority of us will fall into the “results not typical” category because we’ve fallen for the scam.

The primary problems with designer or fad diets are twofold:

1) They were created in a vacuum. It’s true that you probably could lose weight following even the most ridiculous diet to the letter. These diets all essentially shock your system into changing the way it uses fuel (food) by scaring your body with radical changes such as depriving it of all food (Master Cleanse), eliminating carbs (Atkins), or phasing different foods in and out of your diet (South Beach). It can certainly “work” in the short term, but then again, most everything can.

But is moderating every single part of your diet something you can sustain day in and day out? Probably not. If your full time job was to monitor every last part of your diet every minute of every day, you’d probably be wildly successful with your weight loss goals (and probably wildly broke as well from being unemployed). The reality, however, is that most of us have other priorities—family, work, community or social obligations—that take precedence over painstakingly counting carbs or fasting. In the end, a designer diet just isn’t in tune with reality and is, therefore, doomed to fail.

2) Diets are short-term visions for a long-term issues. A friend of mine once uttered the phrase, “if it ain’t forever, it’s almost over.” While the context of the conversation was something much different than eating habits (and likely inappropriate for audiences under 18), I found the quote applicable to a variety of life situations, particularly eating.

The reason diets fail is because they’re simply too short-sighted to work. To go on a diet, it should be assumed that at some point you have to come off of it. And as we’ve heard far too many times from friends, families, trainers, doctors (I could go on), as soon as you come off a diet, the weight you’ve lost will inevitably come back. So, the first question to be asked when evaluating revamped eating habits is, “can I do this every day for the rest of my life?” If you answered “no,” then chances are you’re falling into the trap the diet marketers have set. A diet is something that will invariably fail. YOUR diet should become a way of life.

Diets are stupid

As bluntly and plainly as it can be stated, diets are stupid—for both our physical and mental well-being. Physiologically, crash/fad/designer diets, at some level or another, effectively teach our bodies in the long run to store fat and burn muscle for fuel…the exact opposite of what we’re trying to accomplish.

Failed dieting takes it toll

But the emotional toll is more concerning, as it’s grossly underestimated and unappreciated. We set such high expectations for each of our attempts to lose weight, pinning all our hopes for the body we’ve dreamed of on the advice of fictional or compensated doctors who’ve concocted some truly strange eating plans, that when we fail, the results are psychologically catastrophic.

It’d be naive to think we don’t set ourselves up to fail when we begin a diet because our expectations are not rooted in reality. For example, if you were beginning the new “Magical Pizza Diet,” where a super pizza was your key to losing weight and getting the body you always wanted by only eating that pizza, how long would it be before you started craving a hamburger? Pasta? Bread? As ludicrous as the Magical Pizza Diet is, it’s the template for all other diets because with every passing diet failure, we fall deeper and deeper into hopelessness and despair. Our sexy, slim, healthy body is just too elusive. “If the ‘hottest’ diet on the market can’t help, then nothing can!”

Cliches are cliche for a reason….they’re true

We’ve always been told (whether we choose to listen is a different story) that the way to a healthy, trimmer self is by eating right and exercising. When you remember that you didn’t get fat overnight, it becomes much easier to understand that you won’t get lean overnight either. More importantly, this is the point where you’ll likely realize that what you’ve been told all along (that whole “eating right and exercise” thing) actually does work, and it has for generations. This is the point where you sit down and create a sensible eating plan (with a nutritionist, dietitian, or physician if needed), making smart use of cheat meals and other craving coping techniques. This is the point where you’re finally on the right track.

He could have been a nutritional adviser

Einstein once stated that the definition of insanity was doing the same thing over and again and expecting different results. And we prove him right each day by falling for silly diet gimmicks and expect something to finally work. He was probably speaking in general terms, but it’s not far-fetched to think he could have been talking about the way we eat and try to lose weight.

Insane and fat is no way to go through life.

Eat well.

Medicine and Stanford Hospital and Clinics researchers discovered the beneficial effects of probioti

Medicine and Stanford Hospital and Clinics researchers discovered the beneficial effects of probiotics on enhance of weight-loss programs.

What os probiotic? This is food that contains live bacteria, which is considered beneficial and not harmful to humans. The first example of probiotic food was the introduction of acidophilus to milk, which in some cases helped people who had difficulty digesting milk to be able to tolerate milk better. The specific bacteria used in probiotic food like acidophilus milk is Lactobacillus acidophilus. Such milk was available in the 1920s, and yogurt predates it, but was not specifically supplemented for probiotic effects. How does bacteria look? I guess something like this:-)

Most probiotic food is fermented at least partially. A short list of probiotic food choices includes miso soup, some soft cheeses, yogurt products like kefir, sauerkraut and many pickles. Those who feel probiotic food is beneficial are now also interested in prebiotic food. It does not generally contain bacteria but appears to help healthy bacteria grow in the intestines. Prebiotic foods include Jerusalem and regular artichokes, oats, honey, many fruits, and goat’s milk. Human breast milk is also thought to have prebiotic properties that may explain why it so benefits the human newborn.

Many people add probiotic bacteria to their food or take it in capsule form. However, it is unclear how well probiotic bacteria work. Lactobacillus GG, one of the newest probiotics, has shown that it can survive processing by the gut and be especially beneficial to the colon. Not all probiotics have shown evidence that they promote better intestinal health. Some studies do show that eating yogurt during antibiotic treatment may help prevent diarrhea, and is beneficial in reducing risk of yeast infections in women.

What are the qualities of a best fat loss diet? First, it must not be the cause for someone to go in

What are the qualities of a best fat loss diet? First, it must not be the cause for someone to go into starvation. Second, it must be a personalized diet meal. And third, it must tell the client upfront how long its effect will last.

Certainly, everyone has already encountered the basics of Fad Diets where people are instructed to reduce their high calorie intake and strictly eat foods no more than what could fill a regular cup. But if this claim will be taken into a more logical perspective, starving for the sake of losing weight isn’t reasonable at all. Probably, an improved version of these diets can be summed up in one word: moderation.

There’s no other way to reduce weight but to be in total control of one’s food intake. Unfortunately, with fad diets, it seems that the food consumption becomes overdone that the dieting process gradually becomes dreadful and simply unbearable.

The good news is that personalized diet meals are already widely accessible online. This works by providing individuals with lists of healthy foods where anyone is given the opportunity to create a meal plan based on an individual’s weight, metabolism, and food preference. In this kind of diet plan, calorie counting is not given much prominence simply because the components of the foods found in the meal plan can either complement or counter other micronutrients. By careful choice of a combination of meal for the day, anyone can be assured of a balanced, healthy and best fat loss diet.

DietingGuideReviews.com is the reliable online source of articles on losing weight through fat loss diets. Information found on this website is no diet myths, only true and result-oriented diet plans. More about this topic at -Best Fat Loss Diet

TImes in opening the binge eating discussion and allowing many perspectives) Below is my letter the Times posted on their website.)

I am relieved to see in print the genuine experience of a binge eating person and a description of the in-depth psychological work necessary to heal beyond the need to mindlessly devour food.

I’ve been working as a psychotherapist specializing in eating disorder recovery for over 25 years. I am still sad, frustrated and amazed at the lack of public appreciation for the anguish people with these disorders experience. The eating or non-eating is not about vanity, greed, weak moral fiber, lack of willpower, desire for attention or any cause that the public and some professionals in the healing professions believe can be resolved with fast answers, diets and willpower.

As you rightly say in your article, “Overwhelming feelings of sadness, anger or stress trigger episodes of eating unusually large quantities of food, often when she’s not at all hungry.”

So diets, diet pills and food focus are not the issues. The issue is overwhelming feelings.

Binge eaters may not get the healing attention they need because they are more likely to hurt themselves than others. They are not using alcohol and crashing cars. They are not using drugs and killing, robbing or creating public mayhem.

I’m especially glad to see you give the binge-eating person a name and a story. You help the binge-eating person gather understanding and, I hope, evoke some compassion that will disperse the harsh judgments.

Yet your article about the problems binge eaters face in the holidays doesn’t address the real people trapped in binge behaviors. Although the article begins with a description of emotional triggers for binge eating, it goes on to focus on food control as the primary answer: “Most patients can learn to control binge eating with cognitive behavioral therapy” and “We know that a pattern of regular eating is important” for binge eaters. In other words, if the problem looks like it’s about a hand bringing food to a mouth, then the answer must be how to stop the hand.

I can’t argue with these statements. But binge eaters have a compelling need to binge. They can find real freedom from the binge eating behavior if they develop from within, so that they can function well in situations that would formerly send them to the food cupboards.

This development can come from in-depth psychotherapy, regular and committed mindfulness practices or a major life challenge that forces them to grow or die.

Accurate but limited information that focuses on eating habits and weight interventions neglect this important point.

I’ve been in a baby black hole. I don’t even know what day it is. Oh, wait. I do know that today is Saturday beause DH and I are GOING OUT! More on that later. Excuse the madness please, and here is my version of ‘blog vomit’, meaning, I’m opening my brain and everything is about to come flying out:::::
First things first:

1. Mr. Squeakers is growing like a weed! He is still doing wonderful at nursing, and is about 13 lbs at 6 weeks old. What can I say, he likes to eat! He has outgrown all of his newborn outfits and even some of his 3 month outfits. We just love him to pieces. Yesterday, he began to smile at us, and not because he is playing the booty drums and tooting. If I hold him close and coo at him, he breaks out into the sweetest gummy grin. I can’t even begin to explain how wonderful he is and how much I love being his mama!

I had been planning on going back to work tomorrow, but I changed my mind for several reasons. One, because I realized that I would be working every Saturday and Sunday until the second week in January, leaving me very little time to see DH (now that he goes to bed at 7 pm). Two, because I am up all hours of the night and don’t sleep that much and although DH and myself find my scatterbrained sleep-deprived ramble funny, my stodgy coworkers probably won’t. Three, although working at a very popular department store during Christmas season can be fun and festive, it is also going to be a lot of long shifts and subordinate bullshit. Last year we were lucky to get a break to go to the bathroom. That isn’t going to fly when I need to take a 30 minute pump-break RIGHT NOW because my boobs are turning into hard rocks and/or Super-Soakers. Four, DH will be resuming his normal TDY schedule (as in, he is gone at least 2 weeks out of every month) in January, so I will be Mr. Squeakers only physically-present parent and won’t be able to work past then anyways. Five, because my old manager made this huge production out of asking me to verbally avow to make a ‘commitment to better attendance’, and it pissed me off. She said something like, “I know your sister was sick and you had some pregnancy problems, but we need you to be dependable this time around.” I think a few times I went home early so I could babysit my 31-year old sister’s little kids while she went to chemotherapy, HOW DARE I?! As for the pregnancy issues, I was barfing. I’m not very publicly presentable when I’m upchucking.

So, I’m a SAHM for now. (Stay At Home Mom).

2. The weight is coming off quickly. I think I’ve lost 8 lbs. since I blogged last, and that was about 2 weeks ago. The breastfeeding helps with the calorie burning, but to be honest, I’m also working my freakin’ ass off! I’m going to be honest about something. I have this stupid fear. I don’t want to be a dowdy, overweight, let-herself-go mom. I know that sounds vain… But here is the thing. I felt like I let myself go during this pregnancy. I ate healthy, but I still ate too much. I stopped highlighting my hair, I stopped getting my nails done, I let my dark tan fade (that part isn’t bad). I was lazy. I walked, but stopped Pilates, running, cross-country skiing and strength-training. Having Mr. Squeakers was worth anything and everything, but I would really like to get back into great shape.

A few days before I found out I was pregnant, I bought a really sexy top to wear out with DH, who wasn’t Dear Husband at that time, but Dear Boyfriend. Haha. Anyways, I never got to wear that top. I forgot about it until recently. The tags are still on it. And last night I pulled it out of the closet and hung it on my door as motivation to keep going on this fitness journey. I present to you, my ‘It will be mine… Oh yes, it will be mine’ holy grail:

3. I don’t know what the hell is going on, but I’m having the funkiest dreams lately. Last night was chock full of trippy weirdness. The first one was hilarious… because I had a dream that included one of my blog readers! K! http://katery.wordpress.com/ Haha! In the dream, I was having a house-warming party. DH was nowhere to be found in this dream, but my dad and mom were at my party. K came over, and we were sitting on my tacky blue couch talking about pregnancy and babies. I was drinking a ton of red wine, and was getting tipsy. I got up from the couch and went into the kitchen to get K a glass of Crystal Light, because in my dreams she was pregnant just like in real life, and she couldn’t drink any wine like the rest of us. But when I was trying to pour her drink, I was so drunk that I fell down and broke the last glass that I had in my cupboard. Isn’t that weird? I was so upset about it, and I kept crying.

The second dream was that DH and I went to a movie directed by Rob Zombie. It was seriously scary, and I was starting to feel really anxious sitting in the dark. I decided to leave the movie theater. Instead of just getting up and walking out, I got on my belly Army-crawl style and started maneuvering myself towards the exit door. I was just about to escape out the door when the movie screen tore open, revealing a small stage. Everyone stood up and started cheering. Rob Zombie walked onto the stage and started giving an impromptu concert. I love Rob Zombie. But all I could think about was shoving my mouth full of peanut m&ms. So, I left the concert and DH so I could go buy candy to binge on. I don’t have disordered eating anymore, but I guess my brain still remembers my crazy binge sessions after bouts of starvation. Ha!

I also keep dreaming about smoking cigarettes again. I don’t crave them at all when I’m awake, but lately I have dreams of lighting up. It is so strange…

***

DH and I are going out tonight, and I am so excited! We are going to be hanging out with a few of his work buddies and their wives. My sister will be taking Mr. Squeakers until about 11:30 pm, so I pulled a few bags of breast milk out of the freezer for tonight. Speaking of going out, you may remember me talking about going out for a girl’s night a couple weeks ago. It was a lot of fun, but at first I wanted to go home because I missed Mr. Squeakers like crazy. I kept texting my husband and asking him to send me pictures of the baby. After awhile, I started to relax and have fun. It was nice to be around other adults besides DH. I tried to take pictures of our dinner festivities, but I forgot all about it until we got done eating and made it to the bar, and it was too dark in there to get good pictures. I had somehow managed to turn the flash off on my camera, and I didn’t realize it!

HAHAHA!!!!

This was a pitcher of beer we ordered, and I was trying to be funny and drink out of it ‘a la frat boy’. I may be a mother, but I’m still refreshingly immature. And for any judgmental meanies who stumble upon my blog, Mr. Sqeakers drank previously pumped milk when I got home that night, up until the next morning, so he was kept safe from the 3 beers I drank that night.

Well, I’m off to take Mr. Squeakers on our walk!

National Public Radio caused an uproar this week when they reported that at Lincoln University, a historically black Pennsylvania college, students with a body-mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher must take a physical education class in order to graduate.

NPR, The Chronicle of Higher Education and The New York Times engaged dozens of readers in heated debates about whether the policy is fair to fat students. Detractors raised concerns about nutritious foods on campus, anorexic students, smokers, cooking classes, and the validity of the BMI.

James DeBoy, chairman of Lincoln’s department of health, physical education and recreation, defended the policy, which does not insist that students lose weight — only that they take a fitness-walking and conditioning class. Colleges “test, they assess,” he told NPR’s Michelle Norris. “We know that obesity and its co-morbidities are going to rob individuals of quality and quantity of life… We have to stand tall. Tell it like it is. Are we going to be criticized? Absolutely. But we have to do what is right.”

Oddly absent from the hullabaloo is this fact: Physical activity enhances learning.

Read Spark, by neuroscientist John J. Ratey, M.D. Sure, exercise builds muscle, strengthens bone, guards against heart attack and stroke, improves balance, and decreases your chances of getting depressed. But the revolutionary science presented in this book explains the effect of physical activity on the brain’s ability to absorb and retain information. Exercise is the “magic pill” that enables students – for instance, students of any size at Lincoln University — to become educated, which, last I checked, was the goal of educational institutions.

This body-brain connection is the main reason that all students, not just overweight ones, should take required physical education classes in every university, high school, elementary school, and pre-school.

“It turns out that moving our muscles produces proteins that travel through the bloodstream and into the brain, where they play pivotal roles in the mechanisms of our highest thought processes,” writes Ratey. “The neurons in the brain connect to one another through “leaves” on treelike branches, and exercise causes those branches to grown and bloom with new buds, thus enhancing brain function at a fundamental level.”

“What’s the point of this? What does my BMI have to do with my academic outcome?” asked Dionard Henderson, a first year Lincoln student, in a commentary in the university’s newspaper, The Lincolnian.

Here’s the answer, Dionard: Physical activity (not BMI) has a lot to do with your academic outcome. Weight is not the problem, and discrimination is not the answer. The answer for all of us, regardless of our weight, is exercise. Go study the relationship between exercise and the brain, and it will change the way you move, which will change the way you think, which will change the way you learn.

We’re still sick today.

Well this question is hard to answer. It takes a combination of good nutrition, good training routine, plenty of rest and a lot of other things.
My first recommendation is that for anyone, no matter what your goal is, to get a good healthy diet going. Weather you goal is to gain or loose weight, I recommend to eat 6 times a day if not more.

Since the question is about gaining healthy weight/mass I will be targeting that. In case you didn’t know your nutrition is really more important to you getting bigger than anything else. I have seen plenty of guys work out really hard and not really get any bigger because they do not fuel their body the way that they need to.

Here is a Few tips:

1. Replace vegetable oil with olive oil or salmon oil. They are good fats and will help you.

2. Chicken breast and tuna are a great source of natural protein with low fat and carbs.

3. Eat every three hours. Make sure every “meal” has at least 15 grams of protein if not more.

4. If it has more fat then protein, don’t eat it.

5. Get plenty of rest

6.Train Hard. Do not lift for more then 45 min that way your testosterone level peaks and your metabolism is fired up.

7. If you are going to use a protein supplement. Choose a good quality shake. Pure Protein and EAS are pretty good. STAY AWAY FROM BODY FORTRESS.

8.Get plenty of sleep. Your muscles will appreciate it and they will get bigger.

9.Stretch a lot.

For people that don’t like to think much I personally use the empowered nutrition diet. It tells you when to eat, how much to eat, how to make it, and everything you need to know. I would recommend it to anyone they have a lot of different diets.

How can it be? Can there possibly be an entity, a person or thing that is anti Thanksgiving, that wishes to do it harm? I believe that the answer is yes an d that I have positively identified the culprit. This opponent is something about which I have warned previously. But now, its nefarious tentacles have launched a personal attack against our household. What is it? You should know by now, it is , it is the evil cholesterol. Yes that despicable villain, that alters our diets, has taken away my potato chips, and turned many of us into constant label readers at the grocery store.

Its stealthy approach has required Mrs THT to employ the use of medication to fight the battle. Now, don’t get me wrong. i am thankful for te medication for when one must, one must. But Thanksgiving, the feast of thanks, whatever one’s choice of food to feast upon, has been forced to adjust.

So, adjust we have and adjust we will. No longer will one eat with no thought of consequence( except a few extra pounds) we will fight the good fight. Adios potato chips, it is Utz no more. Popcorn has surpassed you as a weapon keep ourselves healthy. I trust your day of thanks was blessed, enjoyable and a healthy as possible. We know the enemy, it is not us, but those choices that can and will be improved. (As long a sI can drink Mello-Yello, that is.) Didn’t Snoopy serve popcorn on A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving? Sure he did. Always the role model, that beagle.

At long last, after a stealthy attack, the inhibiter of the e njoyment of food has forced Mrs THT onto medication, a swell a sdietary adjustments.
