[Note that this is just the Setup that I made and always use. There are Tons of diffrent ways to play theses. This is just the most effect to me]

Overall Plants used Through Out All Levels:

Spikeweed

Spike Rock

Tall-Nut

Pumpkin

Magnet-Shroom

Coffee Bean

Peashooter

Repeater

Gatling Pea

Jalapeno

Cherry Bomb

Sunflower

Basic Setup: Start up by planting two rows of sunflowers. This keeps up the flow of sun at a good amount. If the zombies quicken up and there are more then you think you can handle, then make on Pea Shooters or Repeaters if you have enough sun. After you start to get a good amount of sun start to make Tall-Nuts to protect yourself from zombies and special zombies that can jump over there smaller cousins. I normally make two rows of Tall-Nuts however that only if i feel like i have the sun for it or the zombies are pretty strong at the time. After you are pretty secured , start making spikeweeds on the rest of the fallow land. This is hurt the zombie before they reach the Tall-Nuts. After you have enough sun again, upgrade the Spikeweeds to Spike Rocks so that it does extra damage and destroys vehicles aswell. Extra Plants can be added latter on. Examples would be plants to go against Ballon Zombies or Miner’s. One Final Note is about the Gargantuar and this setup. They are the real only danger, next to miner’s to this setup. If you have Spike Rocks it will slow them down by alot (being it takes about 3-5 hits to kill one Spike Rock). However, when you have them, be prepared with any kind of powerful plant you have. The quicker you kill them the more likely you would have to much to re-plant. Below are the ScreenCaptured Photos I got each time I completed the Survival Games.

Some things are difficult and some are easy. The last seven months have been difficult. I have decided to be apart of a world super power… the U.S. Navy. This was an amazing yet challenging evoultion. Though I have not yet fully understood my passion for my nations navy combat team, it was something that i fell in love with. Almost over night. The difficulty is not in my work or my job description. It’s in the sheer fact in what has changed about my life and what it has almost cost me. In the Navy we call that a near mishap something that could have been catostrophic but was salvaged in some way to where nothing had ever happened even though it was close. There was many changes, the biggest and what has been a constant near mishap… was being away from my wife. She has been of the utmost supportive to me but as one can imagine time can be a cruel enemy that wears on you like, pouring rain hitting stone. Being away from home wasn’t even the most difficult, she is in the coast guard. So we both go on deployments. So as time has worn on, it has worn on both of us. But why i call it a near mishap is for this very reason, at the moment it seems that it’s all falling down. There’s a saving grace. Call it what you’d like but i call it God’s soverignty, divine intervention. I will say this though every man at one moment or another doubts ones faith, but unwaivering in my commitment to my faith, my wife, my navy and my hospital corps. I have gone from low points and high points.. and yet still aside from military politics, and personal differences my wife and I held on to God and one another as if our very breath depened on it (but it really did), and yes the struggle is still there. We still are very much in love, and married. Though temptation, distance and time have waged war on our marriage, even now. That’s why I would call this evoultion from civilian to sailor a near mishap. I know it is good for me because without this, I would not be the man, husband, or sailor that I am today. Being good at the one has definitely made me better at the other.

On Knowing the Will of God

Let me begin by unequivocally stating that the Will of God is not some object that God seeks to hide

Let me begin by unequivocally stating that the Will of God is not some object that God seeks to hide from you. God does not play hide and seek with His Will. The Will of God can, however, be difficult to discern at times for a variety of reasons: emotions, life situations, spiritual condition, and stress all contribute to difficulties in discerning God’s Will for your life.

In my personal study time, God impressed upon me some basic guidelines that I have used that have helped me to better discern God’s will for my life. I hope that they are a blessing for you as well.

1) Ask yourself, “Am I at peace as I consider the factors involved? Or, am I restless and impatient because of uncertainty or inner conflict?” Isaiah 32:17 says, “The work of righteousness will be peace, and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever.”

2) Do you have an assurance from God that the timing is right to move in a certain direction? Psalm 37:5 says, “Commit your ways to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.”

3) Seek God’s will, whatever it may be or whatever it may cost. Jesus said, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me” (Luke 9:23).

4) Be very sensitive to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. As yourself, “Is He moving me toward, or away from, a particular situation?” John 16:13 says, “Bet when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come.

Other verses to consider:
“I delight to do Your will, O my God, and Your law is within my heart” (Psalm 40:8)

“Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness…Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass” (Psalm 37:3, 5)

“Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (James 1:22).

Original posting: Thursday, March 5, 2009 Does your dog always lie down when you ask him to, even fr

Original posting: Thursday, March 5, 2009

Does your dog always lie down when you ask him to, even from 20 feet away?

Does your dog walk nicely on a loose leash giving you eye contact, even when walking past other dogs playing fetch?

Will your dog hold a sit-stay for more than five minutes?

If you have answered ‘no’ to any of the above, don’t worry you probably don’t have a badly behaved dog or a dog that is deliberately disobeying you – you need some proofing.
It is proofing that is usually lacking when an owner complains that their dog behaves perfectly in the kitchen but acts as if their owner is speaking a different language to them when out and about.

It is important to understand that for the most part when someone tells their dog off for disobedience (or worse interprets not obeying as dominance), in fact what has happened is that the dog does not understand what is being asked of him in a specific situation.

The reason for this is that dogs are poor generalisers. We are very good at generalising; that is why we might for example give out about an entire population or culture after having one bad experience with one individual. If a dog learns something in one specific situation they often have trouble applying that lesson to any other situation.

Your dog is probably perfectly behaved when you stand upright in front of him in the kitchen holding clicker and treats – however this may be the only situation in which ’sit’ means sit down to your dog!

Try these challenges (no treats, leashes or training tools allowed!):

stand in a corner with your back to your dog and ask your dog to ’sit’

lie on the floor and then ask your dog to ‘lie down’

put your dog in a sit-stay, take two steps back and do a ‘crazy’ dance that is to include hopping on one leg and jumping about

If your dog didn’t sit first time or if he jumped on you instead of lying down or got up and ‘danced’ with you don’t tell your dog off – get proofing.

Proofing – how to?

When training we are trying to proof three things: the 4 Ds – distance, duration, distraction & difficulty

To make it as straight forward as possible we only proof for one criteria at a time and then begin to combine them as the dog gets better at the exercise.

For example, if we are teaching sit-stays we might start slowly building duration while standing right in front of the dog in a low distraction environment. Once we have built some duration we might start to build distance by taking one step back.
But, when we begin to build another criteria we will go back to sit-staying for a very small duration, maybe a few seconds.
As we build distance we will gradually build duration at varying distances from the dog.

Distraction is often the most difficult one to build. Just as with duration and distance we must build distraction slowly.
One of the first things I ask clients to do when working on a training program is to list their dog’s Top 12 favourite things; these are obviously suitable to be used as rewards for good behaviour but are also most useful as distractions too. The dog can then be rewarded with access to the distraction.

So if your dog loves to meet other dogs, have him ’sit’ and then allow him to meet another dog.

We will also use distraction levels and I ask clients to work on distance and duration at one level before moving onto the next.

Distraction Level 1: kitchen – a low distraction environment that the dog associates with food to initially teach him the behaviour using treats or toys

Distraction Level 2: other rooms in the house – practice the exercise in other areas of house that are associated with different levels of activity, begin by practicing at quieter times

Distraction Level 3: the back garden – at first when it is quiet and then at noisier times

Distraction Level 4: the front garden – as the dog performs better you can work at busier times too

Distraction Level 5: stationary car – start with you beside the dog and then gradually move away until you are sitting in driving position with the dog in his travelling position

Distraction Level 6: quiet street

Distraction Level 7: quiet park area

Distraction Level 8: quiet street close to activity – gradually move closer

Distraction Level 9: quiet park area close to activity – gradually move closer

Distraction Level 10: moving car – have an assistant come with you and practice positions and simple exercises while the dog travels safely in the car

Distraction Level 11: progressively busier streets – up the ante as the dog performs better such as near busy roadways, near crowds, near areas that people relax and hang out, near children’s play areas, near barking/confined dogs

Distraction Level 12: progressively busier areas – up the ante as the dog performs better such as near by plenty of human activity, children’s play areas, near where dogs play on and off leash, near other animals

Remember, always keep yourself and your dog safe – your dog should be leashed until you are 100% certain that you are in control and not in any danger.
Proofing should be the fun part of training when you can begin to really challenge your dog – use your imagination and proof exercises for situations that haven’t necessarily come up in day to day life yet.

The really important exercises are all the basics that every pet dog must have so as to live in the human world.

Vital proofed exercises include:

positions on the move – ‘wait’, ’sit’, ‘down’, ’stand’

recall and eye contact

stay – sit, down, stand

loose leash walking

leave it and drop it

I know that this sounds like a lot and indeed I need to work on many of these with my own dog. The one that I have worked the hardest on is ‘wait’ so that Rufus will stop mid-step – I proof this all the time. When we go walking I ask for several ‘waits’ while he runs around after squirrels, most of the time I release him to allow him to continue the chase as a reward.

I know that I have to work harder on leave it and drop it. He found a dead squirrel recently and I thought I would never get it off him, without me having to touch it.

Since we were at a Dr Dunbar seminar last weekend I have been working really hard on eye contact and sits in all sorts of distracting situations. So you see, proofing is a life long commitment. It doesn’t have to be boring or hard – we have been doing plenty of crazy dancing lately to proof stays!
If you would like help introducing any of these exercises or proofing ones already trained give Pet Central a call and we can start a training program with you and your dog.

Remember that if your dog doesn’t perform, he may need help understanding the exercise in a specific situation – don’t tell him off, get proofing!

I know it might sound as if I’ve beaten this horse as much as I have stalker here, but I think

I know it might sound as if I’ve beaten this horse as much as I have stalker here, but I think I’d like to add a few comments with a severely less hype-minded approach here.

At the moment, I’m around the midpoint of Borderlands and it’s starting to show its blemishes. The previous time I wrote about this game, I was fresh faced, bushy tailed and all that crazy bullshit, but after experiencing approximately around 20 hours with of gameplay, I’d like to share what I’ve experiences, with a maximum of 1 digression, what I’ve experience, and what I feel about it.

When I previously mentioned all that glorifying hype about side quests, I meant it, at least at the time. The beginning of the game really sucks you in. Then you get to the next area and it feels like you’re starting all over again, except the quests really fail to capture the magic, the essence that they did at the beginning. Maybe it was because the world was big, vast and mysterious, and you’re only poking your head out of the doorstep, but it really felt as you were just an errant item, stalking around the shadows and crenulations of Pandora, trying to get by without being noticed and not trying to upset too many people. This is up until just after you defeat this bastard of a gangster type Sledge in his domain when you realise that you can pretty well walk through everything, a destructive utensil of the enigmatic bounty board, with little fear of death. Or maybe this is because I had a revolver that fires exploding bullets.

It was a combination of the ease of the game, the pace, and boring AI and the ever increasingly collecto/kill-fest quests that really detract from some very nicely thought out level designs, but in a large part, it was really the soul of the game. I draw comparison to stalker, in which it actually has quite a few basic similarities. In stalker, people will fight tooth and nail for their small bit of territory that they call home. It all feels very real; they sit around the fire, talk, tell stories and tell jokes, whereas in borderlands, they sort of just randomly wander around until something turns up the kill them, this is why you never have any concern or interest for the denizens of the wastelands, and they really just feel like well-armed obstacles without personalities. This not only breaks immersion, but makes the places they inhabit feel dead and pointless. And the level design is really quite nice, and deserves complimentary elements, did I already mention that?

The design of the side quests is somewhat inevitable, somewhere along the line they’re going to run out of ideas, but since you spend the vast majority of your time engaged in a sidequest of some description, it would seem only sensible to give them more variety. In the second area, you had to do something similar to the first, except rather than visiting a gangster, then retrieving a key, then doing battle with the man himself, and everything in between, you merely piss off a few of his thugs and challenge him to one big ridiculous vehicular dual to the death. It would appear that they’re trying to persist with giving each area its own issues and personalities, but considering that the relevant plot was so curtailed, it hardly had any impact at all.

The final issue that I think deserves some attention is the games difficulty. Sure, it’s meant to be a hard game played with 3 other chums, but that really isn’t much fun with all the communication issues. So even with one other friend, the game really proves little challenge, especially if he steals all of your XP by killing a boss when he’s four levels higher than you, however it is quite fun, particularly with the Rakk boss, devising a strategy and screaming at each other down the mic (we use Skype) in the midst of the madness. There it is, my one digression, I hope you enjoyed it. But when playing singleplayer, which is sometimes a nice change of pace, the game is a breeze. And I mean REALLY easy, there is essentially nothing trying to stop you from reaching all of your objectives, and when they try; they’ve evolved to the stage of merely disrupting the scenery.

That and the fact that the sniper rifle, when scoped moves about a bloody millimetre every time you do as much as NUDGE THE MOUSE. This is infuriating, please fix it, it feels as if I’m playing with a man, made out of plastic with preset grooves of articulation in his joints that cannot be glossed over UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

This is a bit of an update because now I’ve played a considerable part further into the game, and I’m glad to say that it returns to its original ideals of the grand quests comprised of even more well designed levels. Although the gameplay is much the same as it was earlier, the level design really allows you to feel like the badass mercenary you are, regardless of your playstyle, and I think this is what is really sustaining the game for me, not necessarily the endless blood lust, or the story. and it does a lot for the game by building very well orchestrated worlds with interesting features, yet the best of these only really shine around the 25 hour mark when you start doing jobs for people around Newhaven, allowing you to explore the dockyards of a moonshine outfit, or the canyon city of Krom the gangster, a couple of great examples of thorough playtesting and design collaboration, but I wont spoil them for you.

So, I think I like borderlands in a sort of love/hate way. The art style is lovely, the gameplay is consistently fun, even in respects to the way the weapons sound, let along how they feel and look; and the level design is stellar. All in all, now that the hype engines have settled, I first recommend you try it, or if you’re a PC gamer, bug a friend who did buy it, at least he’ll speak his mind.

My heart strugs on this. I don’t have either. I feel like I’m just co-existing with everyone else on earth. Co-existing/creating tension with people in my house. Co-existing with people at school. Co-existing with people at youth group. Co-existing with people in small group.

And it’s not because I’m not myself or I’m not whatever. But at the same time, we weren’t meant to do this thing called life alone. It’s not right for me not to have fellowship. It’s not right for me to be missing out on “relationships that could be happening.” But that’s where I am right now.

And I don’t think it’s because I’m un-Christian, even though that is the message I’m getting from Church. They preach about fellowship all-the-freaking-time at church. And knowing that I am not in a place where I can be in fellowship breaks my heart. Knowing there aren’t people who understand me that are my age breaks my heart. All the depression this has caused breaks my heart. The grief of broken relationships breaks my heart. Not having friends breaks my heart. Knowing that I’ve been legitimately abandoned by people I love breaks my heart. It hurts. The pain cuts deep. Really, really deep.

We are meant to be in fellowship with one another but that isn’t why we were made.

We were made for fellowship with God. We are made for His Pleasure and Purpose.

But it’s hard to keep that intact with life. Everything. My self-image. My lack of relationships. My pain. My suffering. My grief. Whatever. It’s hard. Muy difficult.

DIFFICULTY.

And I’m not sure any of this will get any easier.

boo.

But at least I am not alone. For He is here. And he can wash away my fears and wipe my tears away.

At least God is ultimate quality.

Quality is my heart’s deepest desire. What’s your heart’s deepest desire?

trying to see the bright side, praying for quality, and looking up towards God,

An ideal alternative perfectly fulfills every condition set for it without adding new difficulties.

An ideal alternative perfectly fulfills every condition set for it without adding new difficulties. Unfortunately, ideal alternatives are rare. We must, therefore, evaluate each available alternative by measuring it against all of our objectives. It is the relative quality of that fit that concerns us.

If we must choose among several alternatives, we will have to decide which one will best fulfill our objectives with the smallest acceptable risk. In other words, we try to make a balanced choice. An alternative that best accomplishes the objectives but carries severe risks is not, after all, the best choice. Another alternative, perhaps less exciting but safer, may be the best balanced choice.

If there is only one alternative, we must decide whether it is good enough to accept. In this case our evaluation will focus on its relative worth compared with a perfect but unobtainable alternative.

If we must choose between a current and a proposed course of action, then we consider both to be alternatives. We evaluate their performance against our objectives just as we would if both had been proposed. Whatever is currently being done is, after all, an alternative; the choice is whether to continue that way or find another, better way.

If, in the absence of any alternative, we must create something new, we can usually build an alternative from available components. We then choose the best and most feasable combinations, treat each as a separate alternative, and evaluate all of them against an ideal model of an alternative.

(Audrey) When traveling around India one always has options. Amongst my colleagues (students and other back-packer types who claims to know a bit about South Asia), trains and buses are the preferred mode of transportation. This is partially because they’re the most flexible (a lot of buses don’t even require reservations, you just show-up) and also because they’re cheap. But even beyond the price and flexibility, it’s often said that trains/buses are the authentic way to see India. These grueling modes of transport lend one a stamp of authority, they’re a sign that you know the “real India” and can handle it. Hey, even I have participated on occasion at turning my nose up at those who stay in 5-star hotels and eat at expensive restaurants all the time. But then there come times in one’s life…

Times when it’s worth 100 bucks to take a plane instead of a 10 dollar, 25 hour, grueling train journey. Which brings me to the moment where I’m sitting in the Delhi domestic terminal, waiting for my flight to Calcutta. In the meantime, I’m using their free wireless internet and marveling at the niceness of my surroundings. They have lovely, expensive looking shops here.

And a shot of the domestic terminal from overhead. Great modern architecture if you ask me.

And they even have a fish tank. Really, who has a fish tank in India?

Well, what can I say, am I missing the “real India” by flying instead of taking the train? If so, then authenticity is a highly overrated concept. Having taken the train to Calcutta in the past, it actually really sucks in my opinion (you have to go through Bihar, just google “Bihar poor” sometime). Perhaps another way to put it is that I’ve seen enough of this “real India”… time to upgrade to first class… or at least coach.

Dragon Age Origins is a pretty difficult game. Encountering spellcasters, such as mages, is nothing to scoff at. Well, if your main character is a mage, or if you decide to manually level up and configure the other mage characters in your party, there are two spells that will help you make short work of spellcasters.

Spell Might is a sustained power that amplifies spells (and, boy, does it).

Mana Clash is an area spell that, using a significant amount of mana from the cast, completely eliminates the mana of enemy spellcasters (mages, etc) and turns it into spirit damage proportionate to the amount of mana destroyed.

The two used together effectively turns spellcasters into walking mana bombs. At my mage’s current level (12), he damages spellcasters for 250+ damage.

Last week we started talking about how our need for “sureness” often collides with a God

Last week we started talking about how our need for “sureness” often collides with a God who can ask us to take incredible risks at times. I told you I wanted to highlight three instances I had found where this collision occurred. We started with a story about Moses that taught us that the proof we want of our success often comes after we act on God’s word and character.

Our second story actually ties in to Moses’ encounter with God. When Moses asks God who he is, one of God’s responses is, “I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” By saying that, he was telling Moses, “If you want to know who I am and how I work, remember the stories of these guys.” That’s exactly where the scene of our second collision takes us, to the story of Abraham and Isaac.

Abraham was far from perfect, but he’s remembered for his faith. For whatever reason, God chose to engage Abraham and promised to make him the beginning of a great nation. Of course, this was ridiculous because Abe and his wife physically could not have kids. Decades later, (and after many bad decisions on Abraham’s part) God made good on his promise and gave Abe one child: a son named Isaac. Beautiful story, right? And they lived happily ever after, a good time was had by all, so on and so forth. Not quite. One day out of nowhere, God interrupts Abe and Isaac’s game of catch. He says, “Hey Abe, like this kid I gave you? I can see how much he means to you…. Soooo, I’m gonna want you to kill him.” What?!

The Bible doesn’t tell us if Abraham says anything back, but you can imagine his jaw dropping when he hears this. It doesn’t make any sense. God had singled Abraham out of the population of the earth to be his friend. Why would a friend tell another friend to kill their child. And further, God said that he would give Abraham tons of descendants through Sarah. At this point, it had been a little over 25 years since that promise and Abraham is finally seeing that promise fulfilled. The vision God gave Abraham hinged on Isaac having children to continue Abraham’s legacy. God wanted to snuff that out before Isaac even got married?! Abe probably had questions like these swirling around in his head, but here’s what steadies him: he had gotten to know God’s character enough to know that this story had to end well. So he does what God asked him.

He sets out with Isaac, two servants, and goes to a mountain God had instructed him to go to. The entire trip, Abraham watches Isaac walk ahead and is probably trying to figure out how this is all going to go down. Not having the answer doesn’t turn him around or stop him from continuing on. When they near the mountain, Abe turns to his servants and tells them this statement of his faith, “You stay here. The rest of this journey is for me and my son. We will both come back after we have worshiped the Lord.” He gives Isaac the wood and he carries the knife: the killing instrument. Somewhere in their ascent up the mountain, Isaac makes a discovery. “We don’t have a lamb to sacrifice,” he tells his dad. Abe says, “Don’t worry, son. God will provide.“

They arrive at the top and Abraham sets up the altar. Then he ties up Isaac. At this point, the lights probably go on for Isaac, but he let’s his dad lay him down on the altar and says nothing. Both men, knowing that these are the final moments of Isaac’s life, do not complain, bargain, or seek a way out. Abe knows what God had told him to do, sets his will on it, grits his teeth, and raises the knife.

At that moment an angel appears and stops him. Abraham, both bewildered and relieved, looks around and sees that God has provided a ram to sacrifice instead of his son. This is the part that I love. The teller of this story stops right there and explains, “And that is why they say, ‘On the mountain of the Lord, it will be provided’.” That statement tells us that Abe and Isaac’s story spread, and so did a truth about walking with God. Sometimes it requires you to act out of trust in the character of God, even when you don’t have the answers to some very important questions. The thing that you need the most will often only be provided after you’ve shown your resolution to trust God even when he doesn’t make sense. God sees that Abraham loves him and believes in him this much, and his affection gushes out over Abe. He is so emotionally moved that he can’t hold back. Twice, he explains that it is because Abraham was willing to sacrifice his own son that he will make him great on the earth and a blessing to everyone. As history unfolds, we come to understand fully why God asked Abraham to do this unthinkable thing and why it meant so much to God when Abraham obeyed. Abraham couldn’t have known it, but thousands of years later God would lead his son, Jesus, up on a mountain, lay him down on an altar and sacrifice him, because it was the only way that he could make a sacrifice big enough to atone for the sins of everyone who ever lived. We can see that the thought of doing this was already breaking God’s heart and he just wanted to share that with his good friend, Abraham.

So when you are bewildered by something God has asked you to do or just can’t see how it’s going to work out, remember three things:

Your story is bigger than you. After you make it through a difficult time, you are going to have something to tell people, and they will talk about it.

When you don’t have the answers, act out of trust in the character of God. You will find that as you prove your resolve to trust him, he will provide what you need the most.

God wants you to know him as a person. The only way to know someone is to experience life with them. Life isn’t just laughter and good feelings. Heartache, anger, sorrow, rejection, and loss are a big part of life, and God knows them very well. Sometimes God doesn’t want to teach you a lesson or make everything work out okay in that circumstance. Sometimes he just wants you to know him a little bit better. Maybe the profound answer you are looking for in a difficult or confusing situation is just that God feels that way too. It’s wonderful to share in someone’s joy, but it’s an deep honor to share in their sorrow.

We’ll be leaving the country on Sunday, but I’ll try to post our last “collision” before then, so stay tuned. Here’s a hint, it also ties in with Moses. In the meantime, I’d love to hear what you think about this story. What have you learned about who God is through your painful and confusing experiences in life?

It has been a looong Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet and it isn’t over yet. For the past two days it has just been eggs, tomato juice, coffee, tuna, lettuce, yogurt, and more eggs, tomato juice, coffee, tuna, lettuce, and yogurt. Oh yes, and cooked ham wrapped with lettuce. Yes, more lettuce. I’m starting to think I’m a rabbit.

I don’t know if I can go on the next four days.
