This is the sequel of my previous post on wedding gown.

I am not a big fan of wedding gowns, in fact I am a bit scared of choosing my dress. I deliberately postponed my search of the gown until I am ready to face my fear. I used of have a mild phobia of big fluffy wedding gown with lotsa beads and sparkles [Winston's Edit: That's a phobia??!!]. The idea of wearing a heavy, troublesome, over-the top wedding gown leaves me with a little nausea and goosebumps. So I turn to an unconventional and non-threatening option to choose the gown. By browsing through online shops that specially sell pre-owned wedding dress. This gesture freaks my fiance out.

For a month I went through www.oncewed.com and www.preownedweddingdress.com to look for my ideal wedding gown. From these websites I discovered my future favorite wedding gown designer, Monique Lhuillier. I was not impressed with Vera Wang and not part of Bride Wars frenzy.  I fell in love with a full Chantilly lace gown by Lhuillier with the code name Claire. The beautiful paisley pattern and full Chantilly lace doesn’t come with a hefty price tag, which was also a big plus. I was raving about this dress and started to contact a few sellers to get the best price. I found a seller with the best price possible which miraculously have the gown that fit my size. Most of the size are for Caucasians, so the odds of having a 5′ 2″ gown is depressingly low. So when the price went down to 1,100USD, I was blown away and ready to purchase.

However, Winston and Katryn were not comfortable with my decision of buying my wedding gown online. Katryn insisted me to try the real gown, with the real cutting and material before buying Claire. Good advice. So I went down to Tanjong Pagar with Winston, to have a taste of wedding gown. Reality stikes. Most of the gowns in bridal shops are exactly the type I’m avoiding, so I was quite desperate.

Until we went to our last stop Di Gio Bridal. The sales girl, Josephine, was smart enough to spot my taste of simple and minimalist gowns, she brought me a beautiful structural gown with minimal beadings on the neckline and a nice clean Duchess satin dress with Swarovski crystals. I was finally at ease. It  also open a possibility of finding my gown in the local bridal world. She mentioned that I am not like a typical Singaporean brides, who wants more blings on the gown. I think it’s not only for Singaporean, Indonesians also fancy heavy beadings and bling bling. It doesnt feel like a wedding gown, without all that, that’s what they always say. We chatted with their in-house designer, a flamboyant and talented Mr Casey. Surprisingly Monique Lhuillier is also his favorite designer and we shared the same opinion about her gowns.

We did not sign up with them that day, but they left us with good impression. The second bridal we went to was Margaret Brides. This time it was a better experience, because MB gowns suit my taste of simpler, subtle gowns. However their price is not subtle. Margaret the owner and the designer herself takes pride in her work, her gowns are gorgeous, but she also has the designer pride which unfortunately clashed with mine. Budget is also an issue. In order to materialize my dream wedding gown, we need to pay almost double our original budget. I wanted to use French Chantilly lace which adds about 4k to the basic package. So forget it!

In the end I did not have peace in my heart to buy Claire, so I let it go (Eugenia, one of my housemates, made it easier by cutting the printout picture into pieces!). It was not easy, because I have been clinging to Claire for some time, thinking that this is a good buy. But actually I knew that it is not a wise decision to buy your wedding gown online.

Just after I let it go, I spotted another dress from Monique Lhuillier Spring 2010 collection, Katya. I love it right away, there’s an uncanny feeling telling me that this is it! I rely a lot on my emotional connection when it comes to deciding on something. This is one of those moment. But Since there is no way I could buy this dress, unless I fly to Hong Kong or to Los Angeles to buy the orginal gown, I will have to tailor made locally.

My first and only choice is Casey from DiGio Bridal. I made an appointment with them, and this time I brought Clarissa and Dora (my housemates cum bridesmaids) with me. I trust their taste and opinion. It’s comforting to know that they agree with your choice. Cut the story short, we signed up with them.

I love working with passionate people and Casey is definitely one of them!

Recientemente digio ha creado un clip promocional para la Universidad de Murcia. El tono de la pieza es completamente distinto al habitual. De hecho, no conozco ninguna universidad que tenga un video similar. Todas suelen optar por la voz en off con el “rollo” de siempre…

Gracias a la Fundación Cajamurcia y junto a CYUM, digio ha desarrollado la versión en internet del Atlas Global de la Región de Murcia. La versión impresa es, sin duda, un trabajo monumental y de gran calidad en todos los aspectos. La tarea que se nos encomendó fue la de trasladar a la pantalla esta obra, lo cual no fue fácil, habida cuenta de la gran cantidad de imágenes de gran calidad y resolución y el elevado número de páginas. Finalmente creo que hemos hecho un buen trabajo que pueden ustedes evaluar en www.atlasdemurcia.com

Retomo el blog escribiendo sobre un tema relacionado con la SLNE y que, por tanto, está en relación con el propósito inicial de este blog que era contar mi experiencia creando una empresa.

Aunque no estoy escribiendo, el blog sigue recibiendo visitas, sobre todo los post en los que explico por qué decidí crear una SLNE y cómo le puse el nombre a la empresa. Este último sigue teniendo muchísimos comentarios donde la gente pide ideas para ponerle nombre a su empresa.

En este post quería contar la reciente experiencia que he tenido en la presentación del Impuesto de Sociedades (IS). Dos de las principales ventajas de la SLNE es que puedes aplazar los pagos de IRPF y el paso del IS. Todas las SL pueden aplazar el pago del IS, si bien tienen que presentar un aval, cosa de la que la SLNE está exenta. Pues bien, presente el IS y solicité el aplazamiento sin presentar aval. La Agencia Tributaria me contesto requiriendo el aval con lo qeu tuve que contactar con ellos y explicarles que la SLNE está exenta. Me preocupó y me quitó un poco de tiempo resolver esto, pero finalmente todo ha quedado claro y resuelto.

De la experiencia saco dos conclusiones: es una gran ventaja la SLNE aunque me da la sensación de que es mínimo el número de empresas con esta figura, pues ni siquiera en la agencia tributaria están acostumbrados a tramitar IS sin aval.

When we reached Pan Pac we were immediately greeted by their friendly staffs. A bouquet of roses was given to me at the reception and a front desk lady sent us up to our room and gave us a short brief of what we can enjoy during our stay in pan pac. Thereafter, she asked what we would like for our pre dinner snacks. Net and I opt for sandwiches. She left and we were left on our own to rest for a while before we get busy for the night.

But before we rest, we have to explore the room first. The room was fantastic. We were staying at their executive suite. The room was twice the size of their normal rooms. So where was like a living room, where we had a dining table, coffee table, big flat screen plasma TV, sofa, fridge and toilet. The next room was our bedroom, with another big flat screen plasma TV. And the suite also has a dressing table, bathing cubical and bathtub. The first time in my life I am staying in such a big comfortable suite.

Anywayz… We didn’t get to rest much. Net initially wanted to take a nap but time doesn’t permit him to. FF called me (all the way from China), we chatted for awhile before I removed my makeup and all. I had to wash my hair 3 times to get rid of all the gel. : (

Shortly after we had freshened up, our pre dinner snacks came. We had salad, sandwich, fries (which was served in a warmer), a complimentary bottle of Champaign and a cake courtesy of the deli counter in the hotel. Net grabbed a quick bite and it was time for him to go down to the ballroom, to final confirm the seating, make sure everything was in order and to oversee the march in practice of the sword bearers.

I nuaed a bit more and mummy and daddy arrived. Shortly after, Elson arrived as well and I asked him to make mummy up first while I rest a while more. He combed a “messy pong pong” hair for mummy which I thought made her look younger. Then it was my turn to make up. Elson was asking me how I would like my hair do to be, and out of sudden, he got an inspiration and said: “ I know!! I’m going to style the most in hairstyle for you!!” “how is it like?” I asked. He smiled and said: “you will know later. Confirm very pretty one.” “OK”, I said in anticipation. I trust Elson’s skills and I know he will definitely transformed me into a princess.

In the meantime, my jiemeis has arrived one by one and they went to help with the setting up of the reception area. Then Ben and Don arrived as well and they started snapping and shooting away. At about 7+, carol and EQ called me to tell me that most of my colleagues have arrived and I better be down fast. But I wasn’t done with my hair yet and finally at about 7.45, I went down to the ballroom. Most of our friends have arrived already. Everyone commented I was very pretty and I was very happy because Elson really did a darn good job for me.

By 8.30, we started our dinner. As I was standing outside the ballroom with net behind the sword bearers team getting ready for the march in, my palm turned cold, my heartbeat increased 100%. I was damn damn nervous and excited. Don’t think I have been this nervous before. Thousands of what ifs entered my mind. What if I stepped on my gown? What if I fall? What if the music wasn’t long enough? Luckily net was there to calm me down and also the sword bearers were making lame jokes to make me laugh. Thomson, our coordinator from Pan Pac also came, checked everything is ok and even helped me spread my long train nicely.

We heard the emcees did their opening speech, and then the music played and the door opened for the sword bearers to enter the hall first. The song for our first march in was “ You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban. Some people commented that the song wasn’t suitable for march in when they first knew we chose this song. But I think the song is perfect. There was a 1 min instrumental part before the singing started, which is perfect for the sword bearers march in. And every time I hear the song, I feel in bliss, I feel in oneness. So I felt that this song is most suitable. And it was by chance that I decided on this song. One fine day I was watching TV and the advertisement for some love song compilation came on and one of the song in that album was you raise me up and suddenly as if something hit me, this is the song for my march in. Few days later I went to the CD shop with net and we listened to this song again and we both decided that this song is perfect for our military march in. it’s such a sweet song. : )

About a min later, the door opened again and this is the moment that I’ve been so excited about. We walked slowly into the ballroom. The ballroom lights were dim with blue background and spotlight on the aisle only. Our march in was a long one, and with the music playing in the background, all eyes were on us. Everybody was clapping and sending their blessings to us. The moment was perfect. We passed the 1^st pair of sword bearer, the 2^nd pair of sword bearer, moved towards the 3^rd pair of sword bearer, and was stopped. We were asked to finish a glass of beer each before we can proceed. Small feat. We drank our beer and proceeded to the 4^th pair of sword bearer and was blocked again. This time, I was asked what is net’s favorite song. And at the first instant, my mind was a blank. Then I remembered the Alex To song net always sing at KTV. But I cant remember what is the title of the song!! Somewhere in the crowd, somebody shouted: Majulah Singapura. Everybody laughed. I looked at net for help but my attempt was futile. I rummaged my brain for the title of that song and I finally remembered. Its 把你藏起来 by 杜德伟!! Net confirmed I was right (phew… really swear man) and I was asked to sing the song out. Again, all of sudden, my mind became blank. Used up all my brain juice and managed to hummed a few phases of the chorus. And we can pass!! And we continued our march in towards the last pair of sword bearer, hoping they will let us off. But we were wrong. Net was asked to carry me all the way back to sword bearers no. 3 and we have to march in all over again. And so he did, which was no easy feat cos he was in his no. 1 and my day gown is very very heavy plus got long long train some more. But he did it without much effort and we had a smooth march in all the way till the stage. Till now I can still remember every second of our march in, which was, to me, the perfect march in  I have dreamt of. We had the cake cutting ceremony (btw the cake was very hard and very diff to cut) and the dinner finally commenced.

I was famished but before I can take a 2^nd bite of my first dish, Kelvin, our banquet coordinator for the night came to informed us that there was short of 1 vegetarian pax at one of the table. Turns out Mag didn’t have any food. I felt so bad.  I went to check, and turns out that there was a miscomm. Kelvin ensured us that everything was in control and they had already prepared an extra set of vegetarian meal for her. Shortly after, her food was served and I felt much better. Thanks for Kelvin. We didn’t have to do much and he settled everything even before we asked him to.

After the hoo haa, before I had chance to bite another mouthful of my sotong ball, we were told we had to go change into our 2^nd outfit so we left the ballroom. Sis accompanied me up to help me change into my EG. I was so relieved when I changed into my EG cos its so much easier to move in. No more cancans and long trains and heavy beadings. And we were just in time. Shortly after we were back to the ballroom, our video montage of the day’s happening was played. And I must say Don and Eve did a great job!! I viewed the video from outside the ballroom ( I asked the waitress to open the door slightly for me to peep thru the gap). The video had all our guests laughing away. Everyone enjoyed it very much. Well, so did net and I. After the video ended, it was time for our 2^nd march in.

This time, we marched in to 永邦’s 你是我最深爱的女人. Our friends cat whistled as we marched in. Someone shouted : 我们永远支持你!! And I waved and blew kisses at them. Haha. Thereafter we went on stage for the popping of the Champaign. Max, caught the Champaign cork and he shouted: wah must go buy 4D ah. And then there was the 喝交杯酒 and then the usual YAM SENG session. And we had our thank you speech. When I was giving thanks to mummy and daddy, I almost cried again. So I kept pausing to keep my cool, and net kept asking reminding me: dun cry, it’s a happy occasion. We also had our “special Lion Club donation” announcement. Well, both net and I thought since its such a happy occasion, why not use the chance to spread the happiness to the less fortunate elderly? And we glad we did.

Then was the photo taking session. 42 tables of photo taking is no joke. by the 20^th table, my mouth was stiffed already. But for so many tables, I think our photo taking session went quite smoothly and ended quite shortly. Kudos to the brothers who did a good job. By the time I went back to my seat again, we are already at dish no. 8. But on net and my seat, its still dish no. 1. I tried to eat but the food was cold and tasteless (again). I managed to steal some food from daddy. Then its time for us to 跳进火坑.

Time to go back to the tables who we promised we will be back for them to sabo us.

Richie’s table -  we were asked to stand on the chairs, net carry me in his arms and I fed him a glass of red wine. And then we have to kiss for as long as they shout yam seng.

All the special concocted drinks look and taste the same. We suspect its red wine + beer + hard liquor. But kudos to the bros again, they helped us gulp down many of the drinks.

After all the sabo, was time for us to stand outside the ballroom and have the thank everyone for coming. I have never shook so many hands within such a short period of time in my life. 1 uncle came up to me and told me: your thank you speech was very good. very touching. The old folks like to hear. I dunno which part of the thank you speech he meant, but I was still happy. : ) A lot of people came told me: wah u can drink very well hor. I dunno why they said that as well because throughout the whole dinner I only had 1 glass of beer (during the march in) and at most 5 sips of some mixed concoction. I think they thought I drank everything. But little did they know, I only drank a small mouthful and the rest was finished by either net or his bros. keke.

Some of net’s colleagues stayed back and he had another round of sabohing (they drank an entire bottle of red wine from the bottle!! And only few of them!!) And finally when everyone was gone, we went back to our room for last round of 闹洞房. Good thing our dinner was on a sun and the nxt day is a working day, not a lot of them stayed back for the闹洞房. Among all, Seng was the most enthusiastic. I think he wanted to take revenge. Haha. By then, net was quite high, and I was so tired I was like: ok just sabo what u want. Quickly get over and done with.

And that was how our wedding dinner ended.

2007 ha sido un año muy importante para mí. He creado Digio (en junio), me he casado (en octubre) y he leido mi Tesis Doctoral (en diciembre). Doblo el último recodo del año con la satisfacción de haber trabajado y de haber hecho cosas importantes.

Centrándonos en lo profesional, finalizar la tesis doctoral ha supuesto la culminación de un esfuerzo de muchos años, que al mismo tiempo pensamos que puede ser el punto de partida para una línea de trabajo, la de los osciladores de cuatro dimensiones, aún sin explotar y en la que vamos a publicar en breve algunos artículos iniciales.

La creación de Digio ha sido la culminación de un esfuerzo, de un trabajo y de muchas reflexiones e ideas. Pretendo que Digio sea un referente en la creación de elementos, espacios y conceptos que permitan hacer evolucionar a internet. En ese sentido estoy también trabajando en sym.posium. Internet es un nuevo lenguaje que no ha sido entendido ni bien explotado hasta la fecha. La web 2.0 es el primer intento de nuevas formas de expresión nativas en internet. Antes de la web 2.0 la red no era más que el reflejo del mundo impreso. Digio debe jugar un papel importante en su entorno como empresa absolutamente innovadora y que conoce en profundidad los últimos avances en internet. Además, apostamos por crear nuestros propios productos, conceptos y contribuir a esa innovación. La consecuencia directa para las empresas y organismos que trabajen con Digio será la de aprovechar de manera óptima y adaptada a su caso las potencialidades que ofrece internet y las nuevas tecnologías. Esta es la línea que quiero imprimir a Digio, somos innovadores en internet y prestamos servicios. Vamos a contribuir a la evolución de internet y lo haremos ofreciendo soluciones a nuestros clientes. También estoy orgulloso de nuestro modelo de negocio. Pretendemos que todos aquellos que trabajen con nosotros puedan hacer una carrera (verdadera) y beneficiarse de los beneficios de Digio. Para ello, cierto es, estamos incorporando a gente que muestra aptitudes muy claras y orientadas a internet y a sus nuevas formas de expresión.

Concluyo haciendo una pequeña referencia a una entrevista que he mantenido hoy con una persona, probablemente la más singular que he conocido. Escribiré un artículo específico, ya el próximo año, pero no quiero cerrar sin mencionar al Padre Fermín María García, un gran poeta, primo hermano de mi abuelo, y al que he teniod el privilegio de conocer hoy y charlar un rato. Con 95 años y medio “estoy más cerca de los 96 que de los 95″ – ha dicho- el Padre Fermin muestra una extraordinaria curiosidad, una conversación lúcida y con contenido, hemos hablado de Unamuno, de Rusia, de Spengler, de la Iglesia y del mundo actual. Una persona inteligente y con talento, un hombre singular y único. Conocerle ha sido una forma magnífica de acabar este año tan fructífero para mi.

Ayer día 19 de diciembre presentamos en la sede del rectorado de la Universidad de Murcia el Portal de Convergencia Europea. A la cita asistieron el Rector Magnífico de la Universidad de Murcia, D. José Antonio Cobacho, la Vicerrectora de Innovación y Convergencia Europea de la Universidad de Murcia y otros miembros del consejo de dirección de la Universidad de Murcia.

El proyecto ha tenido bastante repercusión en la prensa regional, y se hicieron eco de la noticia El Faro de Murcia, La Opinión de Murcia y La Verdad, entre otros.

Los sitios web institucionales, tales como la página web del Vicerrectorado de una universidad corren el riesgo de convertirse en una amalgama de enlaces, llamadas y contenido sin ninguna estructura, sin criterio y poco atractivos para el usuario. En el caso del Vicerrectorado de Innovación y Convergencia Europea ocurría que a las competencias de Convergencia Europea se han sumado otras, y era necesario descargar la página institucional y crear un espacio temático que albergase los contenidos relativos a la Convergencia Europea. Esa fue la razón por la que creamos este portal, a partir de una estructura de contenido que tuvimos que simplificar para llegar a la arquitectura de la información que tien el portal que hemos creado.

Uno de los errores que con más contumacia cometen los responsables de páginas webs no solo de universidades, sino de todo tipo de organizaciones, privadas o públicas, es el querer dar toda la información en la primera página. En más de una ocasión me he encontrado con la frase “ese espacio queda vacío”. Es un concepto erróneo y en este trabajo demostramos que podemos apostar por una primera página sin exceso de contenido en la primera vista, que da lugar a más información si hacemos scroll. Tratamos por tanto de que en la primera vista se identifique inequivocamente la temática del sitio web: “Convergencia Europea” y el remitente “Universidad de Murcia”. A continuación destinamos un espacio generoso a una presentación multimedia que incluye video tradicional y animación Flash en segundo plano. Entendemos que el video debe tender a ese formato, mucho más rico y con mayores posibilidades comunicativas. Si continuamos con la página tenemos una barra lateral (a la derecha) para destacados y el contenido cronológico del portal.

Junto al concepto de simplicidad en la primera página, hemos aplicado una estructura tipo blog en el contenido, esto es, introducimos el contenido por categorías, cronológicamente y con la posibilidad de que los usuarios se puedan suscribir. Esto es muy necesario en sitios web donde la información se actualiza con mucha frecuencia, característica que hace unos años no era usual en un sitio web pero que en la actualidad predomina. Este cambio en las necesidades no ha estado acompañado de un cambio en las estructuras y en las formas de diseñar los sitios web con lo que muy a menudo la dinámica del sitio no encuentra forma de desarrollarse con los planteamientos de la web tradicional. En pocas palabras, la estructura de los sitios web con información poco actualizada no sirve para las necesidades actuales. Por otra parte las suscripciones RSS, aunque no son de uso general, se van a imponer, sobre todo frente a las listas de correo, que dan lugar a avalanchas de información incontrolada. Esta comparación creo que ha resultado muy ilustrativa para nuestro cliente.

Hemos creado un portal con video que, por supuesto, se despliega con Flash. Cualquier otra posibilidad para el despliegue de video no me parece adecuada. Flash ha conseguido la mejor integración del video en las páginas web, y en ese sentido, soluciones que apuesten por llamar a otras aplicaciones son, a mi entender, de todo punto inapropiadas. El portal se completa con herramientas para compartir contenido en marcadores sociales.

La prensa regional decía hoy que era un por tal único. Pensamos que así es, no solo por ser el primer portal dedicado a la Convergencia Europea de estas características, sino también porque se ha realizado haciendo una reflexión previa importante y poniendo en juego muchos elementos acordes con las nuevas tendencias de la web. Algunos dirán que estos conceptos existen hacen tiempo, pero ¿Dónde? ¿Aplicados a qué? ¿Hay una web de dos velocidades? Sería un tema interesante para tratar en otro post.

Vuelvo al blog contando algunas cosas sobre DIGIO.  Tengo bastante trabajo y estoy a punto de fimar dos contratos muy interesantes. Uno de ellos es para trabajar en temas de comunicación. DIGIO es una consultora tecnológica, pero habida cuenta de que las TICs se están convirtiendo en una herramienta esencial en la comunicación, no es de extrañar que cuenten con nosotros cada vez más en estos temas.

En su últimos trabajos, DIGIO se está caracterizando por ser una compañía que ofrece soluciones con gran agilidad, formando equipos de profesionales muy cualificados que pueden dar respuesta a las necesidades del cliente en muy poco tiempo. Un ejemplo de ello es el video institucional que realizamos para la visita de Emilio Botín a la Universidad de Murcia, donde intervinieron distintos profesionales: cámara, locutor, diseñador 3D, editor de video, coordinador, redactor, etc. Además metimos el video en un USB de piel y lo entregamos a los asistentes como regalo. Todo esto se llevó a cabo de poco más de un mes.

Desde DIGIO también estamos trabajando para llegar a un acuerdo de colaboración con una importante empresa consultora. Todavía no puedo dar más datos, pero creo que va a ser bueno para todos.  También estamos pendientes de colaborar en otro interesante proyecto en labores de consultoría. Espero poder contarlo pronto.

DIGIO está creciendo y tanto los clientes como las personas que trabajan con nosotros están contentos. Estamos apostando por ofrecer productos de calidad y por cuidar a la gente que trabaja con nosotros porque entendemos que son nuestro principal activo. El exceso de trabajo no nos ha permitido lanzar aún nuestra web, pero espero poder lanzarla en poco tiempo. Será sencilla, limpia y clara, no pretendemos ser efectistas en ese terreno, nuestro valor está en lo que ofrecemos al cliente.

El programa TUTELA es una iniciativa de la Dir. Gen. de Política de la Pyme para ayudar a la consolidación de empresas que mediante un convenio con la EOI permite a los emprendedores beneficiarse de unos cursos y, lo que es más importante, de la ayuda de un tutor con el que durante unos meses podremos realizar análisis y tomar medidas.

El programa solo contempla una sesión presencial, el próximo lunes en la sede de la EOI en Madrid. Posteriormente se imparten unos módulos de formación online, sobre marketing y finanzas, siendo el núcleo de la acción el programa de acción tutorial.

Para el programa se han seleccionado 150 empresas en España. DIGIO ha sido una de ellas.

Las vacaciones no han sido tales. Durante las semanas en las que no he escrito, me he dedicado a darle los retoques finales a mi tesis doctoral, que leeré en breve, y a trabajar en un encargo que la Universidad de Murcia hizo a DIGIO para realizar un video institucional con motivo de la visita de D. Emilio Botín a la Universidad de Murcia. El Grupo Santander colaborarán en el proyecto Campus Sostenible de la Universidad de Murcia, en concreto en la creación de lo que se denominará aparcamientos fotovoltáicos. Se trata de aprovechar los paneles de protección solar de los aparcamientos para colocar placas solares. Por el momento no puedo publicar el video, con el fin de no adelantarme a mi cliente que solo lo mostró en el acto con Emilio Botín. En breve espero hacerlo.
