Rihanna and Shy Ronnie are like fire and ice

Sometimes on “Saturday Night Live,” the funniest sketches come out of the most simple ideas. Take this past episode, for example: you have two people singing in front of a group, and one person is too shy to sing while the other one is there. When one person leaves, the shy one starts belting out a crazy rap only to turn silent again when the other comes back.

This sketch, performed wonderfully by musical guest Rihanna and Andy Samberg, was easily the highlight of the whole episode. The first reason why it worked was the fact that it was so completely random that “SNL” really didn’t bother to explain the setup–such as why they were in front of a group of kids to begin with. Rihanna sang every line, even when she was telling Samberg’s character of “Shy Ronnie” to “speak up.” It also helped that the song being performed was actually pretty catchy.

This nice little digital piece titled “Urban Abstract” comes from Musuta Ltd. design studio in Helsinki and Tokyo.  Careful, it’s easy to get lost in this beautifully executed pixel flurry.  Enjoy.

“Urban Abstract is a journey across urban space that unfolds in forty, 5 second parts. The journey, in one, two and three dimensions, is a bit like abstract surfing in which the original destination is only reached after a number of seemingly random yet linked detours occur. Points , lines, planes and other abstract elements create a journey through an Urban Abstract.
The space between things is as important as intended space, perhaps creating a fourth dimension. Meaningful shapes and purposes occur in this dimension’s reality as well. The concept of negative space has meaning here.
Nature plays a part as well. To be able to understand and differentiate what is urban one has understand what is nature.
The style of the shorts is fluid and, though seemingly random, stream into a cohesive whole. Perhaps watching them in a different order would be more like seeing the same journey from another point of view. The sound world is also very important — movement in space is sensed even if watching the shorts with eyes closed. Sounds overlap, fade, come and go.
Architectural, abstract, someway minimalist and abstract with a touch of humanity.
This feeling is reached through mixing techniques such as vectors , hand drawn lines and painting.
Urban Abstract was realized in Tokyo by a team of artists, designers and animators from Finland and Japan. Urban Abstract was created by Jopsu Ramu from Musuta Ltd, a concept, art & design -studio based in Tokyo and Helsinki.”

I know I’m a bit late with this one, but it was actually too darn funny not to post.

That coughing for well over a month really sucks. (Technically I already knew this.)
That whether or not I work Mondays still suck.

This probably has a lot to do with negativity and our attitudes but then so many people hate Mondays perhaps it’s for a good reason.

That certain coworkers consider themselves members of the “superstar team” and from said conversation probably see’s me as the “C or D team”.

I can live with that because the Produce Department at a lame grocery store does not define who I am.

That I’ve become a little too comfortable with seeing blood after coughing.

Fuck coughing may be what defines…is it too late to take back the Produce Dept comment?

Working most Sundays means I miss a majority of the Browns “games” and this has meant when I don’t I’m
more likely to turn it off and spend time with my wife.

The fact that they suck doesn’t help either.

That I haven’t written a poem in about two months.

That making an effort to be a better husband can be as easy adding an extra hug to your day.

Assuming it’s your wife you are hugging.

That Cavs games just aren’t the same without the Rizza pulling and hitting me.

For an entire week I didn’t even have a notebook in my bag.

Isn’t that some sort of sin as a writer?

That drinking alcohol while taking antibiotics will flush the antibiotics from your system. Why my store manager felt the need to tell me this is beyond me. I think he thinks I’m a hardcore alcoholic.

That the phrase “Piss off” is often on the tip of my tongue.

My cat will steal an entire cookie from my hand and then eat it all.

The Big Lebowski soundtrack is a great soundtrack.

I can be way too amused by myself.

That I like it better when my wife enjoys Star Wars.

Oh my God, SNL did it again. If it wasn’t for Lonely Island and their Digital Short’s, I think SNL would be worse off than it has been recently. Andy Samberg and the crew teamed up with Rihanna to make yet another brilliantly hilarious and catchy song. And this one barely has lyrics!!! Check it out below:

Some might find this offensive…me..I think it’s SNL’s job to make jokes and “roast” people…I think it’s hilarious!

I stopped thinking these were funny after the “Iran so Far” one with the dude from Maroon 5. They seemed like they were trying to hard and it just wasn’t working for me. I decided to watch this one this morning and I actually liked it. Hilarious if you ask me.

After a, somewhat, disappointing season of SNL so far, the show has been able to crank out some amazing things like the Digital Short below.

Oh hello! It’s a pretty slow work day today (and by slow I mean I don’t want to work). So, much like an elderly person using a revolving door, I find myself lost in the interwebs. And unlike that douche Magellan, who decided to get killed instead of sharing his discoveries with the world, I will crack an egg of knowledge on you all.

• Bugatti Veyron? More like Bug-OHDEARGOD!
• Squeeler McSqueelerson wins something on the Today show (*squeels*)
• The uncomfortable yet mildly amusing SNL Digital Short from this weekend.
• There’s either a ninja or a carny on Modern Warfare 2. Either way I hope it’s this guy.
• And finally, a Pair of Normal Activities, or Paranormal Activity (for all of the Siffly Stiffersons out there) is gross!

Now, not to toot our own horns here, but we here at Kibitzers have known about a Pair of Normal Activities since forever ago. So if you’re asking yourself, the way we here pretend you are asking, “Hey Kibitzers, where’s your charming and witty take on Paranormal Activity?” Our answer is simple, we pooped ourselves in fear. But since everyone already made a big deal about it, we’ll only be another cog in the system if we wrote one up. But if you still havn’t seen that movie, go see it. But it’ll never be as creepy as this (*shivers*).

So surprisingly enough, the world was relatively calm this past week. No weird celebrity business (except for the few minutes where everyone thought Lindsay Lohan was off her rocker but turned out to be okay), no crazy TV or movie antics, nothing! So I am forced to resort to the wide world of THE INTERNET to see what’s hot. And oh baby did I find some awesome. Here’s the top 4 things you need to know from the past week:

4. There’s Something In A Box

Okay, I don’t care how weird it looked in the trailers or that it hasn’t gotten the greatest reviews. The Box is definitely one of the more interesting movies I’ve seen this year and should definitely be checked out by anyone looking for a good mystery/suspense/people-missing-part-of-their-face movie. Plus, it’s from the same guy who made Donnie Darko, in case you forgot. So forget the negative buzz and check it out.

3. Celebrities Be Lookin’ Old

I don’t know if you noticed, but people age over time. Didn’t notice? Allow me to demonstrate. Here’s Lindsay Lohan in 1998:

And the cycle begins anew. There’s also a nifty Leonardo DiCaprio version out there, illustrating the development of his face from thin to PUFFY.

2. SNL Is Culturally Relevant

Yes, making fun of Twilight is cool. Everyone knows that because every sane person knows that Twilight is really really really lame. So for SNL’s first week back in a few weeks, they brought us this masterpiece:

This past weekend marked the adorable debut of Taylor Swift as a certifiable triple-threat (singer, songwriter, and Actor!) on Saturday Night Live.  (It’s the singer/songwriter part that makes this a valid Musical Musing.  Click here to hear the funny - and honest - song she wrote for her monologue.)

Overall, I think she did great.  And I’ll admit – I may be biased.  (Proof.  More proof.)  But given the material they wrote for her, you can’t deny that she has talent.
