This is my product pick of the summer! If you want to enhance your business and empower your customers, this is pretty interesting. I really like the concept of the window application and the templates. I think anyone can use this no matter where they are in their digital signage plans. If you sell products, you can add it to your lineup OR if you have been on the fence about deploying signage this is your chance at a unique application. Nothing could be better than utilizing your store or company windows for sales messages.

Hurry!! because this Webinar is Tuesday! Also, check out the spiffy graphic page that they made. NICE! I like it that they are a Seattle company. I will be sitting in on the Webinar as well, so SEE you there!

I can’t help it, but this story reminds me of the Titanic with its super fast new engines and its ego driven need for speed that was its demise. This will undoubtedly change the distribution channels and should make resellers carefully choose suppliers who (moving forward) are in it for the long haul.

I have to trust the Carnival knows what they are doing with the new digital signage fish in 22 locations. After all, every time I hear the name Carnival Cruise this commerercial pops into my head and play’s all day long. Play it and get my drift.

Learn more about the digital fishes. My question is: will there be a way to sponsor those fish with a brand name logo for more revenue? Did I miss something?

Twitter’s great for many things, and it is also great that many involved in Digital Signage / Out of Home are Tweeting about the 2009 Digital Signage Expo. If you are like me; you are not in Las Vegas this week. But why pay for the ticket, the hotel and the plane ride, while also risking a serious hang-over and some Blackjack money; especially when you can get a backstage pass to all the critical events and happenings from straight from Twitter! No, honestly, I might be a bit jealous that I can’t attend this year, but thanks to some good peeps, it sure feels like we are all there. Personally, I was very much interested in what would come out the one of the first events at DSE that was to be Content Day.. As I Twitttered today, it didn’t seem like much was accomplished for the most part, although two presentations / and some content sounded like they Really stood out from most and were Excellent. Did the message about the importance in content for DOOH get through? That remains to be seen, and I have my reservations… But here is “Content Day” brought to you by DailyDOOH.com. Thanks guys, and Great job so far!

YDreams’ Flapi will flip your mind.

You all know the classic story: boy meets girl; girl plays with boy; boy falls in love with girl; girl leaves…

Maria Palma just shared with me YDream’s take on the story, featuring their virtual Mascot, Flapi the cute, and an even more cute – real girl (the Creative Director’s daughter which totally steals the show).

I like the attempt for drama driven by the interaction between real and virtual.

But I’d love to see this on a portable device. The girl should see Flapi in her field of view avoiding the need to turn her head to watch it on the screen.

YDreams response: they’re thinking about it…

This demo (based on their SimVideo augmented reality platform) and others were presented by YDreams’ CEO, Antonio Camara, at the Digital Signage Expo in Las Vegas this week.

YDreams wasn’t the only AR company to present at the event: Total Immersion made a splash as well.

An Exclusive From Minicom for 2009

I love this new exclusive. It is just what we need to start off the 2009 Digital Signage Revolution.

This is also just what the forum needed too! Which is a great connectivity provider that actually can provide some really down to earth information for resellers, integrators and end-users. You can have all the pretty screens in the world but you still need to know what goes between the boxes and more importantly- WHY you might need some of these products.

This is a must read for any integrator, reseller or end-user and even if you know the hardware end well, minicom talks about ROI. I am impressed as they have learned to appreciate the lingo of the media. I like that!

I also ABSOLUTLEY love they promote it from a “going green perspective” as well. Nice job Minicom and thank you for coming to the forum. Welcome!

If you would like to read the ten commandments of Digital Signage go here.

Enjoy! Happy 09 too.

Last week, the Digital Signage Expo announced that they will be bringing their show to Europe and joining Viscom in Germany in October 2009. There have been significant advances in the digital signage market in Europe recently, for instance when NEC, Philips, IBM, Invidis Consulting, Neo Advertising, Minicom and ECE Flatmedia joined forces to form the European OVAB.

Dirk Hülsermann, Chairman of OVAB Europe has said that “the market for digital exterior advertising is growing fast in Western Europe, an average of 32 percent yearly CAGR). This means net advertising sales with digital exterior advertising will quadruple by 2012 – from 158 Million Euros (2007) to 626 Million Euros in 2012.“

As popular as Digital Signage Expo is in America, their choice to join Viscom is a wise one; they should be commended for not adding another show to the already saturated market or trying to re-invent the wheel.

Viscom 2009 is taking place in Germany on October 1 -3, at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Center. Last year Viscom was attended by 14,649 professionals (+15% vs 2006), had 35% new exhibitors, 19,000 m² of exhibition space, 76 countries represented, a cycle of 12 conferences with 60 speakers, 531 conference participants (+8% vs 2007), and 88 international journalists

The full press release can be read at Digital Signage Weekly.

Myth 1 – digital signage software is complex Fact: InfoSignz digital signage software platform is ‘S

Myth 1 – digital signage software is complex

Fact: InfoSignz digital signage software platform is ‘Simple’. With an easy to drag and drop interface and intuitive product component makes it very simple to create, schedule and manage a digital signage network. Irrespective of the number of screens you deploy in your network, InfoSignz still remains simple to operate. The entire intelligence works at the back to ensure a smooth and efficient signage network

Myth 2 – digital signage software accessed on the web are not secure

Fact: InfoSignz is secure, stable and scalable. We have taken enough measures to ensure that the 3 things are met. We use 128 bit encryption on all transaction pages.

InfoSignz powers digital signage networks, small and big, across the globe and we take enough measures, on an ongoing basis, to ensure that our client networks run smoothly and securely.

Myth 3 – Digital signage software are very expensive and involves huge investment

Fact: InfoSignz offers its digital signage platform on Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model. This means that there is no upfront licensing cost, no server software or hardware cost, and no setup cost. What you pay is purely based on pay per use model. Your initial investment is very low and so is your recurring cost. This means that you can use your surplus cash for your other business needs.

Your investment on software is very minimal, but you still receive the best product with latest updated features in a secure and scalable environment.

Myth 4 – Digital signage applications need static IP address to control end players / locations

Fact: InfoSignz offers a unique platform which can control your network screens on dynamic IP address. This would mean that you still get the features of controlling content and point cast flexibilities but you do not need to invest for obtaining static IP’s from your network provider. InfoSignz thus helps to lower your running network cost.

InfoSignz capability with dynamic IP configuration helps even when you have different ISPs / network providers at different locations. Even when you want to migrate to a better ISP, simply migrate without worrying about the mapping of your digital signage screens.

Myth 5 – Digital signage software can only run on specific proprietary players / hardware.

Fact: We at InfoSignz realized this dependency offered by many signage companies and so we have built our solution to run on any make of hardware, specifications. What you need on the hardware PC or thin client is an operating system, flash 9, Java Run time environment and a web browser.

You can use low end or high end or a mix of these two builds for your signage players. For example if you need to display only text and images and some news / text tickers then a very basic low end machine will also meet your requirement. But if you want to display high quality video, Live TV and other heavy content where quality of content is more important then you can invest in a better PC / thin client players.

InfoSignz doesn’t need any proprietary hardware to run its platform. InfoSignz works and supports both Windows and Linux operating system. This further gives greater flexibilities to our clients.

Myth 6 – All digital signage software’s need expensive routers, signal boosters and transmitters

Fact: InfoSignz dynamic signage platform needs only a PC, display screen, cabling and an internet connection. No other hardware attachment needed at the end screen location.

Myth 7 – You need a constant network connection to run your digital signage screens

Fact: InfoSignz narrowcasting and digital signage software can deliver content, manage and control signage network on all types of connectivity – limited or interrupted or dedicated connectivity. We have tested and optimized the platform to run on broadband, LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, dial up and data card connectivity. Our unique offline viewer remotely manages the content, playlist and schedule and live updates.

So whatever is your connectivity your signage screens, powered by InfoSignz PRO, will always display updated or scheduled or default content but will never go blank (blue screen).

Myth 8 – Software’s are upgraded once in a year

Fact: InfoSignz offers instant upgrade of software application. InfoSignz product teams are working continuously to launch new features and components or improving existing features based on customer feedback. As a when we release newer components or improve existing components and features they are delivered to all our existing and new customers, online. So you always use the latest and advanced version of InfoSignz digital signage platform.

To get you up and running in no time, we have put in a new way to start a
PRO account. No nothing major in terms of the end result, but a little less
hassle in getting your up and running in no time with your digital signage
network.

The modification is that when you now sign up to become a PRO user, you also
get a PRO location bundled with it for just $19.98/month. This one PRO
location will be credited to your account immediately. That way you can
start using your account right away.

To buy more PRO locations, simply go to the dashboard, add the number of
locations you want and checkout.

So a lot less hassle now to get your digital signage going ASAP.
