In truth, I’m jealous as hell of this image – snapped just today by my main lens man – the intrepid globe-trottin’ fool – Laith Majali. The pics colors are clearly influenced by my man Bplus, but it’s all Laith all the time these days.

Certainly, this pic be one legendary session – or an implication of a legendary session in the makin’ — hell, I wasn’t there so that’s why I don’t know for sure…and bein’ that I’m out here in Beirut and not there by some teleport device…well…that’s why I’m jealous.

For a long time now there has been a website for Drunken Tiger fans called drunkencamp.com. Updated started to get sporadic as time went on so I started checking on it less and less but I discovered today that they have relaunched as a blog!

The owner of the site has been able to follow DT & the Movement camp’s activities in Korea and has captured a video messages of Tiger JK, Tasha, Roscoe Umali, Rakaa, and producer TechBeatz while they were all in Korea recently.

The videos are admittedly a couple months old but I doubt many of you have seen this. It’s good to hear them showing love to their fans all around the world.

The long awaited, Mick Boogie curated remix project for one of the world’s coolest bands, Peter Bjorn & John. Mick Boogie amassed an impressive roster of well-known producers and rappers to spit fire and drop beats inspired by PB&J samples. With guest appearences by DJ Jazzy Jeff, GZA, Bun B, Naledge (of Kidz In the Hall), Evidence (of Dilated Peoples), Talib Kweli, 88-Keys, Black Milk, Kardinal Offishall, Rhymefest, Wale, Kid Daytona + more, you know he’s cooking up something. The ambitious mixtape, which was officially sanctioned by Swedish pop group Peter, Bjorn & John, reimagines songs from the trio’s 2007 album “Living Thing” and breaths some new life into em.

In diesem Punkt musste ich nicht lange überlegen: Ich werde den Marathon mit Musik laufen. Mag sein, dass BpM-Werte jenseits der 130 die Herzfrequenz mancher Menschen exorbitant in die Höhe treiben, bei mir ist das nicht so. Durch Musik im Ohr laufe ich weder übertrieben schnell, noch komme ich durch die wechselnden Taktfolgen aus dem Tritt. Und selbst wenn – die positiven Faktoren musikalischer Laufuntermalung überwiegen für mich eindeutig die möglichen Nachteile. Musik ist Energie. Oder – um es nicht ganz so metaphysisch zu formulieren – sie kann ein Auslöser im Gehirn sein, Energien des Körpers freizusetzen. Diese Erfahrung habe ich bei vielen, vielen Läufen gemacht. Nun wird der Marathon mit Sicherheit die größte Herausforderung meines bisherigen Läuferlebens, deshalb möchte ich dabei auf gar keinen Fall auf Musik verzichten.

Möglichst zielführend erscheinen mir da einige Titel aus dem Fundus meiner musikalischen Sozialisation, der Rapmusik. Klar kommt die allseits postulierte Forderung nach Härte, eben danach keine Schwäche zu zeigen, in den meisten Zusammenhängen defintiv primitiv und witzlos daher – für so eine Angelegenheit wie einen 42-Kilometer-Lauf kann man sich aber gar nicht oft genug reinziehen, dass man doch bitte die Zähne aufeinander beißen und sich das ein oder andere Wehklagen verkneifen soll. Darum ist auch hauptsächlich Musik der härteren Gangart in meiner Marathon-Playlist gelandet. Nicht ausschließlich, aber doch größtenteils. Jedes Lied weckt unterschiedliche Emotionen, die einem Kraft und Antrieb geben können, und derer sind viele.

So reicht das Spektrum etwa von den spirituellen Kampfsportraps eines Absztrakkt, dessen Mantra, letztlich doch Teil eines großen Ganzen sein, unwahrscheinlich beflügelnd sein kann (“Schon der kleinste Move bringt die Steine ins Rollen”), über harte Straßenansagen aus den grimmigen Herzen der Pariser Vorstädte (Sefyu, Mafia K’1 Fry, Booba) bis hin zu Trueskool-Hymnen aus dem Sunshine State à la Dilated Peoples (“When worst comes to worst my people come first”). In jedem Track liegt eine andere Motivation begründet. Im Endeffekt sollen mich alle auf ihre Weise über die Ziellinie tragen. Jetzt kann ich nur noch hoffen, dass es mein Billig-mp3-Player schafft, die Lieder auch in einer ordentlichen Reihenfolge anzuordnen.

The footage from the dumb/PH battle was finally released today.

The battle wasn’t as hot as I was hoping for since PH is a vet and dumb is on the rise but PH ended up choking a bit. Props to both artists but dumb took it easy. Make sure you check the interview at the end, it adds a lot of context.

A “Trojan Horse” has come to mean any trick that causes a target to invite a foe into a securely protected bastion or place.

German production squad, Snowgoons, is set to release their 4th studio album, “The Trojan Horse” on October 27th. Following the tremendous success of their previous three projects, I’m pretty sure this won’t have the same effect that the Greeks had. The strength of the last 3 albums were manifested through the throwback beats and the artist selection. The roster for this album will not disappoint, in fact, it may be a flash point for so-called Indie rap. A moment where an extraordinary league of thought provoking MC’s squad up with an international champion sound of epic proportions.

When I first heard these guys, I wrongly put them under the new-generation-hype-street-rappers category, the first guy on this video even sounds a bit like Mike from The Cool Kids, but after some appreciation, I really think they have a different swagger…more like Dilated Peoples for example (by the way, it would make my day to hear something new from these last ones).

This video has tons of epic punchlines and I’m really digging the whole flow of it. Simple and effective.

A few weeks back Roscoe Umali had tweeted about performing at a bboy event held in korea. Well full event details have been released and it turns out it’s going to be a joint stage concert event on September 27th also featuring Dumbfoundead, Drunken Tiger, Epik High & Rakaa (of Dilated Peoples). What an incredible line up! If you’re in Korea, this is a can’t miss event!

Seems like Rakaa’s been going in deep with Korean artists, already featuring on both Drunken Tiger & Epik High’s latest albums.

This is a gem that Nah Right uncovered. This Evidence interview is from roughly three years ago (20/20 era). The video starts off with a nice little performance of the Dilated track “Back Again”, which is definitely one of my favorites. After that, the interview starts and EV starts talking about the constants in Hip-Hop (which is evolution). EV also talks about how the labels get a cut in what seems like everything. I love how, even back then, Evidence was talking about wanting to carve his own path in the Hip-Hop game. Shouts to the dopest emcee/producer/advocate on the planet.
