Si è svolta ieri a Berlino la cerimonia di consegna degli European Music Awards, i premi assegnati da MTV sulla base delle preferenze del pubblico e di una giuria di esperti. La rassegna si è svolta a Berlino per celebrare i vent’anni delle caduta del muro. E’un trionfo per questo blog, perchè moltissimi artisti dei quali abbiamo parlato che sono stati premiati con il massimo riconoscimento.

Tra i premiati troviamo infatti Dima Bilan, vincitore dell’Eurofestival 2008, Elena Paparizou, trionfatrice della rassegna nel 2005, la svedese Agnes, da noi lanciata per prima e ancora Medina, Lost, Silbermond, Doda, Pixie Lott, Inna, i romandi Stress e l’olandesina Esmee Denters. Di seguito, tutti i premiati. Da notare come purtroppo i premi internazionali siano tutti di artisti in lingua inglese.

Ci piace tantissimo la vittoria dei Silbermond, raffinatissimi interpreti del pop rock tedesco, così come anche ci piace il successo della danese Medina, dance woman in lingua madre.  Nel premio europeo, vinto dal turco ManGa, quinti i nostri Lost. Prossimamente andremo alla scoperta dei nomi nuovi che hanno vinto, fra cui gli spagnoli We are standard. Un par de temas que sonaron en Eurovision.

There is still a big hole in the number of official Eurovision albums on Spotify, but here’s the most recent available. Relive the fantastic 2008 contest and wonder at all the songs that were better than eventual victor Dima Bilan.

Who knew that a Russian singer by the name of, Dima Bilan was such a huge pop star and internationally known. The red, white and blue definitely received a taste of this and of course some Russian Select Vodka. After all it’s the countries drink of choice.

I hung out on the set of the music video for Dima Bilan yesterday and watched the chaos unfold. On top of a Pop Star gracing us with his presence, Miss Russia was there with her entourage as well.

Breathtaking is the only word I can think of to describe the location of the house, wait scratch that…Mansion with more under construction houses, an observatory, insane view and more that I probably didn’t get to see. 

The house belongs to owner James Goldstein who graces the court side of the NBA Lakers and Clippers games. You can probably catch him sitting right next to other celebs. The trek to the location was hidden and looked as if I were entering Jurassic Park.

Not only was his house architecturally captivating, his look was also jaw dropping.

The highlight of the day was getting lost in the never ending stairs that snaked throughout his property. I must say it was a workout and I felt as though I needed a machete just to get through the exotic plants and trees that covered the paths.

I made it to the observatory, which has a key less entrance and looks like something NASA created with steel encasing. The talk I heard about the inside of the observatory was unimaginable. Of course I was only to appreciate it from the outside.

Eurovision landed on the mighty Danube in Belgrade in May of 2008, and so too did a record number of delegations from all over the continent. It had been decided a while before the contest that there would not be one semi final in 2008, but two, in order to accommodate the growing number of nations. The tiny principality of San Marino came to join the party for the first time, but unlike other first-timer Azerbaijan, did not mange to secure a place in Saturday’s final. Hosted by television presenter Jovana Jankovic, and 2004 entrant Zeljko Joksimovic (who had not only penned songs in the past, but written Serbia’s 2008 song for Jelena Tomasevic), it opened with, as usual, a reprise of the reigning winner Marija Serifovic, who welcomed Europe to Serbia and the Belgrade Arena – one of the largest on the continent with the potential to seat around 23 000 people. The stage was an epic creation of organic screens which were placed to symbolise both the Danube, and the Sava, Serbia’s other main river.

 After a love ballad from Romania came the UK, who had drawn slot 2 once again. Andy Abraham, who had been runner-up in one season of ‘The X Factor’, had not been the favourite in his national selection, but was equipped with a higher quality of song than his country had participated with in 2007. ‘Even If’ was an up-tempo Motown-inspired anthem which used flashing lights and live music to complement Andy’s strong voice. There was really nothing to complain about until after the voting when the UK found themselves in last place with Germany and Poland. Speculators wondered if it was Abraham’s ethnicity that had done it, but the more likely explanation was that the UK had once again become the victim of the partisan voting that had been dominating Eurovision since the dawning of the televoting age. Germany had sent one of their most popular bands to Belgrade, who had sold millions of albums, and had more than one top ten hit, but they too ended up at the bottom, with no allies to back them up.

 The closest thing to a novelty act in the final was that of Laka from Bosnia & Herzegovina. The first indication was his emergence from a washing basket as the first verse began. His sister accompanied him by dancing madly down the catwalk in a skirt covered in apples, and by throwing bouquets from the backing vocalists who happened to be dressed as brides, into the audience. This was discovered not to be that unusual when it came to light that Laka had used live chickens as part of his entertainment in the Bosnian final. Despite the chaos, the song, ‘Pokusaj’ (meaning ‘try’), was quite good quality pop-rock, and perhaps the performance’s eccentricity helped it be memorable and rise to a respectable 10th place.

Sending an artist who has already done well at Eurovision was becoming a reliable formula in the naughties. Sweden decided to cash in on this by bringing in their most recent winner, Charlotte Nilsson, who, since 1999 in Jerusalem, had married and now went by the name of Charlotte Perelli. Her song ‘Hero’ was refreshingly un-ABBA like, but still in the genre of schlager pop, which has become a Swedish stigma, and so was similar to many before it. The star looked just as luminous onstage as she had nine years previous, wearing a mini-dress in silver (one of two must-have colours seen in this year’s contest) and sky high stilettos. As always, the Swedes had provided a polished and well-choreographed performance. But although she got a substantial round of applause, it was not to be for Charlotte a second-time around.

Georgia’s second entry was about peace and was sung by a blind woman called Diana Gurtskaya. Her and her backing singers and dancers achieved an amazing costume change which involved enveloping themselves in a giant sheet to transform from black leather to white satin, in a matter of seconds. Azerbaijan also used this symbolism to great effect with their debut ‘Day After Day’. Elnur & Samir appeared on stage as an angel and a devil respectively, singing in English about the battle between good and evil. Towards the end Samir was disrobed by a dancer to reveal a white suit and a ‘heavenly’ version of his character. The voters were impressed.

US raised Kalomira was Greece’s selection for the 2008 contest. Having done admirably until 2007, they had evidently decided to stick with the three-part pop, one-part Greek rhythm fusion that had served them so well in the past. Picking a female soloist similar in appearance to their only winner seemed to be part of the plan also, and fortunately, it was a good combination. The song was called ‘Secret Combination’ which was a sign in itself. Kalomira altered her costume (which was a design of the one and only Jennifer Lopez) during the performance, which added to the spectacle of props and dancers. Greece tends to put a lot of thought into the ‘show’ aspect of Eurovision and usually it pays off. This year was no exception. Whilst they received the obligatory 12 points from Cyprus,more than a few other countries also felt that Kalomira was worthy of taking out the top prize.

Another participant who was well supported in his Eurovision campaign was Russia’s Dima Bilan, who had missed out to Finland in the 2006 contest. Not wanting to lose again, he had produced a song with Jim Beanz, a top American producer and songwriter, which would appeal to the masses. It had a message, and he had the goods. Barefoot and dressed all in white, he began the song sitting on the edge of the stage, before making his way to the centre, at which point a renowned Hungarian violinist and Olympic medallist ice-skater Evgeni Pluschenko joined him. This was a clever and high-quality gimmick which only served to increase his chances of winning.

Dima did better his 2006 position – not too shabby when you think about it. Ukraine also continued their run of successful entries, coming second for the second consecutive year. A big surprise came from Norway, who as one of the worst performing Eurovision nations, were not accustomed to being anywhere near the higher end of the scoreboard. For the 54th edition of the contest, another new country was to be visited, in what was continuing to be the strongest era of Eurovision ever seen.

Cîteva minute în urmă s-a anunţat numele participantului ce va reprezenta Rusia la concursul „Eurovision junior 2009” ce va avea loc toamna în capitala Urainei, Kiev. Anul acesta, cinstea Rusiei va fi apărată de Ecaterina Riabova. Ea a acumulat 12,07 % conform rezultatelor televotingului şi juriului profesionist la preselecţia naţionala „Eurovision junior 2009”difuzată în emisie directă pe posturile TV “Rossia” şi “Bibigon”.

Surpriza serii a fost duetul cîştigătorului “Eurovision 2008” Dima Bilan cu producătorul lui, Yana Rudkovscaia, care au interpretat renumitul cîntec “Мы к вам заехали на час” din filmul pentru copii “Muzicanţii din Bremen”.

In sfarsit…. am terminat cu tezele… Iar incep sa ma vait…. la fizica a fost greu dar usor ca am putut sa ma consult cu colegii, la info… nu comentez (presimt ca iau un 7 mare cat mine… probabil cea mai mica nota din clasa), la romana… nu am pretentii avand in vedere ca nu am citit toate cartile pe care trebuia sa le citesc, iar la iubita mea matematica… ciudata chestie… am facut tot si mi s-a parut chiar cea mai usoara teza din toate whatever…

Zilele astea am fost cam prost dispus din cauza proiectului la fizica… si de parca nu era de ajuns ca mi-am pierdut timpul lucrand la el… m-am mai certat si cu diriga si colegul cu care trebuia sa-l fac… am fost prost destul… nu mai fac nimic de unul singur ca si eu cand am nevoie de cate ceva nimeni nu se ofera In fine… nu imi mai pasa eu inainte de toate asa ca… eu sa fiu sanatos, ca de restul nu-mi mai pasa .

War das vielleicht ein Abend! Lange war der Eurovision Song Contest – kurz ESC genannt – sicherlich nicht mehr so spannend wie gestern in Moskau. In der 54. Ausgabe des europäischen Gesangswettbewerbs und größten Show Europas (wenn nicht sogar weltweit) gab es schließlich im Vorfeld schon einige Favoriten wie die mehrfach als “türkische Beyoncé” betitelte Hadise oder auch der Meisterfiedler Alexander Rybak aus Norwegen. Ebenfalls groß war die Spannung um den deutschen Beitrag “Alex swings, Oscar sings” mit dem Starauftritt von Dita von Teese als Promibonus. Wer wird 2009 gewinnen? Blüht Deutschland ein Erfolg in Russland oder gar ein großes Debakel wie mit den “No Angels” im letzten Jahr? Diese und anderen Fragen wurden im Laufe der gestrigen Show mehr als beantwortet.

“Cirque de Soleil” in Moskau

Den Auftakt zum großen Showevent machte die international renommierte Zirkustruppe “Cirque de Soleil” mit einem extra für den ESC kreiierten und sehr unterhaltsamen Auftritt. Die russische Thematik war durch Riesenbabuschkas und Zwiebelturmprojektionen allgegenwärtig, in der sich stilvolle Clowns und Akrobaten nur so tummelten. Im Anschluss schwebte von der Decke der russische Sieger des letzten Contests Dima Bilan auf die Bühne, verfing sich dabei glatt in seiner Jacke, rannte auf einem Laufband durch Styroporwände, bevor er dann schließlich seinen Siegersong “Believe” präsentierte. Ein wirklich schön inszenierter Auftritt, der sicherlich einigen noch länger im Gedächtnis bleiben wird.

Souverän: ESC-Moderatoren Alsou und Ivan Urgant

Eine große Verbesserung konnte man auch bei den Moderatoren feststellen: Im Gegensatz zu den nervenaufreibenden und dauerhibbeligen Hosts aus den Semifinals führten die Sängerin Alsou und TV-Moderator Ivan Urgant souverän, dezent und elegant durch den Abend. Keine pubertären Kicherattacken, keine Wortholperer und ebenfalls keine Abstimmungsprobleme – so muss es eben laufen.
Aber auch Tim Frühling, der als diesjährigen Kommentator-Ersatz für ESC-Altgestein Peter Urban einspringen musste, hat sich im Vergleich zu den Semifinals gesteigert. So gab es neben den üblichen Informationen auch hier und da kleine ironische Bemerkungen mit einem Hauch von Sarkasmus. Well done!

Den eigentlichen Song Contest “eröffnet” hat aber ein anderer: Sasha Son aus Litauen durfte mit seiner Schmuseballade “Love” mit der undankbaren Startnummer 1 ins Rennen. Mit einer recht unspektakulären Show wollte sich der Justin Timberlake-Verschnitt mit Hut in der Herzen der Europäer singen – gereicht hat es trotz Handflammeneffekt zum Schluss nur für Platz 23.

Hymne auf Verständnis: Noa & Mira Awad

Israel wollte dieses Mal in wahrsten Sinne des Wortes mit dem Lied “There must be another way” eine Brücke bauen: Die Sängerinnen Noa und Mira Awad besangen sich schwesterlich und zeigten, dass es zumindest auf der Bühne eine Freundschaft zwischen Juden und Arabern geben kann. Die wunderschönen, fließenden Kleider in schwarz konnten zwar nicht gegen andere großinszenierte Acts ankommen – Platz 16 sprang letztendlich für die wunderschöne Hymne auf Liebe, Freundschaft und Mitgefühl heraus.

Die “Grande Dame de la Chanson” betrat anschließend die Bühne. Patricia Kaas, die mir aufgrund einiger böser Französischunterrichtsstunden mir noch sehr “stark” in Erinnerung geblieben (“Mon mec à moi” kann ich nicht mehr hören!), brach dieses Jahr ihre Traditionen: Trotz des Todestags ihrer Mutter, an dem sie normalerweise weder Auftritte noch Interviews gibt, entschied sich die französische Chanteuse für einen Auftritt beim ESC. Belohnt wurde der intim und auch vielleicht zu melancholisch inszenierte Auftritt in schwarz mit Platz 8.

“La Voix” Malena Ernman umringt von Masken

Von der Chanteuse aus Frankreich zur Chanteuse nach Schweden: Was hat sich Schweden nur hierbei gedacht! Man mischt Clubbeats à la Kylie Minogues “Can’t get you out of my head” mit Pop und Operngesang und herauskommt Malena Ernmans “La Voix”. Der Auftritt war so hell, dass selbst die Bildröhre meines Fernsehers gesponnen hat und ich für Sekundenbruchtteile nur ein weißes Nichts gesehen habe. Was die funkelnden Phantom der Oper-Masken sollten, weiß ich nicht. Ein gerechtfertigter Platz 21 für die recht maskuline Schwedin.

Auch Kroatien blieb blass: Igor Cukrov seufzte umgarnt von kroatischen, in Tüll gehüllten Damen tief “Lijepa Tena” ins Mikro und versuchte krampfhaft, lasziv die Kamera zu schauen. Wen wollte er wohl dabei bezirzen? Das weibliche Publikum (wie das besser geht, erfahren wir ein wenig später)? Oder war er einfach so müde, dass automatisch der berüchtigte Schlafzimmerblick entstand? Wir werden es wohl nie erfahren. Ein Glück war es, dass der Song nur ungefähr 3 Minuten ging… nur einige Sekunden länger und ich hätte wirklich umgeschalten. Platz 18 für Mr. Schlafzimmer.

Portugals Flor-de-lis im Blümchenambiente

Bunter und fröhlicher ging es bei Portugal zu: Die bunte Musikerruppe “Flor-de-lis” sang sich mit vielen Blümchen, bunten Wölkchen und einer großen Prise “The Mamas and the Papas” auf Platz 15. Der Hippiecharme war wirklich schwer zu leugnen und irgendwie erinnerte mich die Sängerin an ein Mitglied der berühmt-berüchtigten “Kelly Family” – dennoch war der Auftritt doch ganz süß, aber eben kein Hit.

Schöne Yohanna: Platz 2 für Island

Islands Yohanna war wirklich ein Traum: Die zierliche Sängerin überzeugte durchweg mit einer wundervollen Ballade und einem noch wundervollerem Kleid in einem zarten Hellblau. Schmachtend sang sie in die Kamera und wirkte dabei so erfrischend und natürlich, dass sie sich bei mir sehr viele Sympathiepunkte einhandelte. Der Griff zum Handy, um für Island abzustimmen, war daher vorprogrammiert. Böse Stimmen bezeichneten den Auftritt und das Outfit “bieder”; ich sage, es war “stilvoll”. Gerade deswegen war vielleicht Platz 2 mehr als verdient. Es müssen ja schließlich nicht immer Nuttenhöschen… Hotpants und kurze Miniröcke sein.

Sakis Rouvas: Seine Nacht war es gestern nicht

Heißer Anwärter für den Preis für die tuckigste Performance des Abends ist der griechische Superstar Sakis Rouvas. Mit eindeutigen Bewegungen von Unter- und Oberkörper wollte er mit “This is our night” vielleicht zeigen, wie gut er doch noch körperlich in Schuss ist und was man – passend zum Text – alles nachts anstellen könnte. Unermüdlich hopste der Sänger von einem multifunktionalen und überdimensionalen Hefttacker mit Griechenlandfahne, wobei seine Tanzeinlagen zwischen Michael Jackson und “Minority Report”-Touchscreen-Bewegungen tendierten. Rouvas wollte mit seiner Dancenummer ganz weit nach oben und hat daher sich die Ziele ein wenig zu hoch gesteckt: Dieses Jahr gab es nur Platz 7 für die Griechen, was in meinen Augen aufgrund der unerträglichen Show doch ziemlich gerechtfertigt erscheint.

Singende Schwestern aus Armenien: Inga und Anush

Armenien schickte die zwei Folkloreschwester ins Rennen – Inga und Anush versuchten Europa den “Nor Par”-Tanz zu lehren. Mit viel “Everybody move your body” wirbelten sie und ihre Tänzerinnen beinahe Derwisch-like über die Bühne. Der eigenwillige Folklorepop-Song ist zwar auf die Dauer anstrengend, aber wirkte doch sehr erfrischend anders. Platz 10 für die singin’ Sisters.

Russland tönte im Vorfeld: “Wir wollen dieses Jahr nicht gewinnen”. Daher ging man gleich auf Nummer sicher und schickte Anastasia Prikhodko zum Finale im eigenen Land. Unerträglich drückte Prikhodko auf die Tränendrüse und krächzte beinahe noch elendiger als eine Gianna Nanini “Mamo” (zu Deutsch: Mama) ins Mikrophon. Bei allem Übel wurden auf den LED-Wänden Videos gezeigt, auf dem die russische Sängerin altert und singend in die Kamera weint. Nein, mit solch einem Auftritt will man tatsächlich nicht in Moskau gewinnen. Der Titel, der sich höchstens zum feucht-fröhlichem Mitsingen für die Russendisko eignet, platzierte sich dennoch aufgrund einiger Nachbarschaftsstimmen auf Rang 10.

AySel & Arash aus dem Feuerland Aserbaidschan

Die absolute Überraschung des Abends kam aus Aserbaidschan. “Always”, interpretiert vom Sängerduo AySel & Arash, bot nichts neues: Ein wenig Ethnopop gewürzt mit Latinorhythmen und einem eingängigen Refrain, peinliche Outfits der Tänzer und ein sehr kurzes Outfit der Sängerin AySel. Arash hingegen sang so unsicher, dass er deutlich hörbar in seinen Passagen von einem Backgroundsänger begleitet wurde. Und dennoch: WTF? Dieser Song hat gestern abgeräumt und Platz 3 belegt! Mir persönlich ist das ein absolutes Rätsel. Wer mir den Grund näher bringen möchte, kann das in den Kommentaren gerne tun.

Revolutionäre aus Bosnien-Herzegovina: Regina

Bosnien-Herzegovina probierte es in diesem Jahr mit etwas anderem: Die Gruppe Regina präsentierte das revolutionär angehauchte Liebeslied “Bistra voda” in einem rot-weiß und erinnerte mit vielen Trommeln und Fahnen in einigen Posen stark an “Les Misérables”. Bei den Buchmachern war dieser Titel hoch im Kurs, letztendlich hat es für Platz 9 gereicht. Für mich war gestern Abend “Bistra voda” der beste Song aus dem Osten, weil er endlich mal ein wenig Stil zeigte und eine sehr gefühlvolle Melodie hatte.

Moldawien zeigt sich traditionsbewusst: Nelly Ciobanu

An der “schönen” Moldau… als einziges Land beim ESC 2009 setzte Moldawien voll und ganz auf Folklore und Tradition. Nelly Ciobanu wirbelt, sprang und hüpfte zusammen mit ihren Tänzern mit zackigen Bewegungen über die Bühne. Der lahme und plumpe Volkssong wurde dank von einigen wenigen Oststimmen auf Platz 14 aufgewertet, was in meinen Augen immer noch viel zu gut ist.

Die altbekannte Chiara aus Malta war dieses Jahr ebenfalls wieder am Start: Mit der Ballade “What if we” wollte sie wieder gewinnen – wieder hat es nicht gereicht. Die Ballade ist schön, keine Frage, aber leider ohne jegliche Höhepunkte. Da kann auch Chiaras selbstbewusstes Auftreten und ihre glasklare Stimme wenig daran ändern. Gleichzeitig war die Balladenkonkurrenz mit Großbritannien und Island so stark, dass Chiara somit nur Platz 22 blieb.

Emo-Klassik-Pop aus Estland: Urban Symphony

Für eine weitere Überraschung sorgte Estlands Klassikact “Urban Symphony”. Der düstere Titel “Rändajad” wirkte wie eine moderne Emo-Version von “Rondo Veneziano” mit vielen Electrobeats und Streichern. Verwunderlich, dass daher sich die estländische Band in die einsamen Herzen Europas sang und Platz 6 für sich beanspruchen. Nicht gerade mein Ding, aber wem’s gefällt…

Radio-Rock-Pop kam dieses Jahr aus Dänemark mit handfester Unterstützung von Ronan Keating, welcher den diesjährigen Titel komponierte. Seine Handschrift war nicht zu überhören und selbst Sänger Brinck klang doch sehr stark nach dem britischen Künstler. Dennoch: Irgendetwas fehlte. Der bestimmte Kick, der große, atemberaubende “Keychange” im Song, eine eindrucksvolle Performance? Man weiß es nicht. Platz 13 für den trotzdem smarten Dänen.

Oscar Loya und seine “Miss Kiss” Dita Von Teese

Deutschland startete dieses Jahr von Platz 17 und die Aufregung war wirklich groß: Schafft es Deutschland sich mit “Alex swings, Oscar sings!” von der Eurovision-Blamage vom letzten Jahr zu erholen? Wieviel Haut zeigt die US-Burlesque-Stripperin Dita von Teese? Man kann wirklich von einem gelungenen Auftritt in Moskau sprechen. Oscar Loya zeigte sich von seiner besten Seite mit strahlendem Zahnpasta-Latinolächeln und sicherer Stimme. Dita von Teese präsentierte sich relativ züchtig wie es sich eben für eine Familiensendung gehört, aber dennoch sehr sexy. Die Halle tobte nach dem perfekten Auftritt und dennoch gab es nur Platz 20 für Deutschland. Warum so schlecht trotz Promibonus? Vielleicht war der Song nicht so massentauglich wie gedacht und auch mir persönlich war der Song eine Spur zu glatt und künstlich. Vielleicht hat dem Auftritt auch ein bisschen die Seele gefehlt, ich weiß es nicht. Im Mittelfeld hätte die Nummer sicherlich landen können – es hätte nicht sollen sein.

Die Türkei war direkt nach Deutschland am Start: Hadise, belgische Sängerin mit türkischen Wurzeln, versuchte im knappen und blutroten Bauchtanzdress und viel “Düm Tek Tek” sich einen Platz im oberen Ranking zu sichern. Der hoch favorisierte, eingängige Titel klang allerdings im Studio doch um einiges besser als live, so dass Hadise mehr schrie als sang und dabei doch einige Töne versemmelte. Platz 4 ist dennoch sehr beachtlich für einen recht eintönigen Auftritt mit vielen pyrotechnischen Effekten.

Lolita Kejsi Tola mit ihrem mintgrünen Spiderman

Nun zum vielleicht peinlichsten Auftritt des Abends: Eine lockige Lolita in einem rosé Ballerina-Minikleid singt von Träumen und wird von einem mintgrünen Spidermanverschnitt (oder war es doch das Ampelmännchen?) umgarnt, während um sie herum merkwürdig maskierte Tänzer hüpfen. Das mag eher nach einer Drogenfantasie klingen, tatsächlich war es aber die 16-jährige Sängerin Kejsi Tola für Albanien mit dem sehr seltsamen Song “Carry me in your dreams”. Platz 17 ist daher noch viel zu gut für diesen trashigen Song mit Hang zum Bodenlosen. Peinlich, Albanien, setzen, sechs!

Rybaks märchenhafter Auftritt in Moskau

Nach dem albanischen Auftritt zum Frendschämen konnte man endlich aufatmen. Der norwegische Jüngling Alexander Rybak betrat die Bühne und spielte Geige wie der Teufel, während er mit einer geballten Power Charisma in die Kamera strahlte und durch seinen Charme wohl alle Mädchen-/Frauenherzen zum Schmelzen brachte. Das bittersüße Lied “Fairytale” über eine verflossene Liebe, die eigentlich Märchen gewesen sei, konnte durchweg überzeugen. Der wundervolle Titel ist schon seit Februar mein persönlicher Favorit des diesjährigen Wettbewerbs gewesen und ich gebe zu – nein, man kann sich gegen solch einen Charmbolzen nicht wehren -, dass Alexander Rybak auch sich ein wenig in mein Herz  gesungen hat. Rybak ist eben ein Naturtalent: Er singt, spielt gleichzeitig Violine, bricht Mädchenherzen und hat den Song auch noch selbst komponiert. Das nenne ich mal Multitasking! Und genau das wurde aus allen Ländern gleichermaßen honoriert: Mit einem ESC-Rekord von 387 Punkten gewann der sympathische Norweger haushoch und hat scheinbar Europa märchenhaft verzaubert. Ich hoffe, dass man von diesem Talent noch viel hören wird.

Anti-Krisen-Mädchen Svetlana in ihrer “Höllenmaschine”

So, die Euphorie darf sich nun legen – vielleicht schnitt auch deshalb die Ukraine schlechter ab als geplant. Svetlana Loboda nahm die Wirtschaftskrise vielleicht zu ernst und präsentierte sich daher als “Anti-crisis-girl” mit ihrem Song “Be my valentine”. Ob sie uns mithilfe ihrer “Höllenmaschine” auf der Bühne und akrobatischen Tanzeinlagen aus der Krise helfen kann, ist jedoch fraglich. Stimmlich betrachtet war der Auftritt jedenfalls katastrophal – um das auszubügeln, spielte die Ukrainerin noch auf dem Schlagzeug. Muss man wirklich so große Geschütze auffahren? Die Ukraine hat es wohl nötig – und ein bisschen hab ich mir den verrückt-trashigen Auftritt von Verka Serduchka “Lasha Tumbai” (Ein, zwei, Tanzen!) zurückgewünscht. Platz 12 für die Ukraine.

Balkan-Girl Elena und ihre “Nixen”

Ein absoluter Graus auch Rumänien: Aufmerksame Blogleser wissen, dass ich schon im Vorfeld von Elena und ihrem Titel “The Balkan Girls” nicht begeistert war. Der Tussifaktor ist unerträglich, wenn Elena von Balkanmädchen singt, die wissen, wie man mit Gin Tonic Party macht und sich den Traumprinzen für einen Kuss angeln. Die Perfomance war allerdings noch unterirdischer als der Song selbst, die Kostüme erinnerten an Waldfeen und Billignixen als an partywütige Girls aus dem Osten. Da hat wohl jemand im Creative Team aus Rumänien den schon sehr simplen Text nicht verstanden. Platz 19 für eine tussige und unstimmige Nummer.

Comeback für UK: Jade Ewan und Andrew Lloyd Webber

Genau wie Deutschland versuchte Großbritannien diesmal besser zu punkten als die katastrophalen Ergebnisse aus den Vorjahren. Daher fuhr man gleich große Geschütze aus und schickte die von Musicalpapst Andrew Lloyd Webber komponierte Ballade “My Time” ins Rennen, die von BBC-Casting-Gewinnerin Jade Ewan eindrucksvoll präsentiert wurde. Schönes Staging, tolle Stimme, hübsche Sängerin. Europa sah das wohl genauso und bescherte Großbritannien Platz 5 im Gesamtranking.

Waldo’s People aus Finnland hatten es dieses Mal jedoch schwerer als gedacht. Die Eurodancenummer “Lose Control” landete trotz feuriger Show und sehr eingängigem Song auf dem letzten Platz. Das hatten sich die Finnen sicherlich anders vorgestellt. Der Auftritt ist ein weiterer Beweis dafür, dass Europop-Dance-Nummern beim ESC nicht mehr ziehen.

Eine dynamische Soraya aus Spanien

Und zuguterletzt: Spanien. Welch feuriger Song, der auf Anhieb absolut nicht spanisch klingt – kein Wunder, denn er war ursprünglich für einen griechischen Beitrag vorgesehen. Vielleicht hat das Spanien den Kopf gekostet. Die blonde Soraya mit “La noche es para mi” klang gut, war gut. Aber wer inszeniert einen spanischen Vortrag in den Farben pink-lilablassblau? Da müssen Feuer und Nationalstolz her, um ein Stück Lebensgefühl der Spanier zu präsentieren. Warum kein rot-gelb? Die Choreographie war mäßig, so dass Soraya ihre Tänzer von links nach rechts im Eilschritt über die Bühne hetzte. Ebenfalls enttäuschend war der groß angekündigte “Überraschungseffekt”, der sich als schlechter Verschwinden-Auftauchen-Zaubertrick entpuppte. Platz 23 für mein Lieblingsland – das geht besser!

Poolspaß mit “Fuerzabruta”

Auch nach den Teilnehmern konnte Moskau mit einer großen Show aufwarten: Fuerzabruta hieß der große Showact, der u.a. auch am New Yorker Broadway schon zu sehen war. Große, wassergefüllte Latexpools erzeugten eindrucksvolle Bilder durch ins Wasser springende Künstler, die sogar das Publikum durch den Latexboden berühren konnten. Sehr eindrucksvoll und gemeinsam mit dem Opener Cirque de Soleil boten die Verantwortlichen in Moskau wirklich sensationelle Showacts mit Weltklasse, das muss man den Russen lassen.

Positiv ist ebenfalls, dass man mithilfe des neu eingeführten Jury-Systems teilweise die Diasporastimmen und die berüchtigte “Balkan-Ost-Connection” eindämmen konnte. So bekamen gerade Frankreich und Großbritannien viele Punkte aus osteuopäischen Ländern, was vor wenigen Jahren noch undenkbar gewesen wäre. Beschweren können sich die Big 4 und auch andere westliche Länder wirklich nicht.

Aber, hoppla: Da singt Alexander Rybak ein letztes Mal seinen Siegertitel am Abend. Die Stimmung kocht. Und direkt danach wird zu einer Veranstaltung übergeblendet, die absolut nicht zum Rest der Veranstaltung passt. Die Rede ist natürlich von der Pre-/Aftershowparty des NDR auf der Reeperbahn in Hamburg. Ich habe schon in den letzten Jahren diese Show nicht wirklich genossen, dieses Jahr schoss der NDR aber meiner Meinung nach den Vogel ab. So wurde aus der Zelebrierung des ESC eine Selbstbeweihräucherung der deutschen Jurymitglieder, die ebenfalls – zum Teil sehr peinlich – selbst auftraten. Auch Casting-Retorten-Sternchen wie Queensberry oder Befour konnten da nicht sehr punkten, das Niveau fiel und fiel. Die Hamburger Reeperbahn ist ebenfalls kein geeigneter Ort für eine solche “Party”, wie man am Publikum gestern feststellen konnte. So ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass Acts von Querulanten reihenweise ausgebuht wurden – ob gerechtfertigt oder ungerechtfertigt sei nun dahin gestellt. Das kann so nicht weitergehen: Ein Locationwechsel für nächstes Jahr wäre mehr als nur angebracht und die Party sollte wirklich komplett überarbeitet werden.

Nach einer langen ESC-Nacht war ich im Großen und Ganzen aber zufrieden: Meine Favoriten Norwegen und Island haben gepunktet und auch gesiegt. Die Ost-Connection wurde teilweise aufgebrochen. Und unterhaltsam war das ganze gestern auch noch. Schön ist ebenfalls, dass man sieht, dass Effekte nicht alles sind. Ein guter Titel und eine ehrliche und emotionale Performance: Das zählt! Und das hat sich gestern auch bezahltt gemacht. Ich hoffe, dass der ESC wieder in eine andere Richtung geht und weg kommt von einer Requisiten-Choreographie-Effekt-Schlacht.

Time caught up with me in the end. The second semi-final came and went, and as someone else was using the TV, I decided it was as good a chance as any to sleep off a late night and an early start and missed it. Consequently and, it has to be said, uncharacteristically, I’m going to withhold judgment .

With apologies to Cyprus, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary and the Netherlands, I’m going to skip straight to the end. Something of a relief, really. I was pretty much out of Balkan jokes. Now, to the five songs that made it straight through to the final. Starting with…

FRANCE

If anything, France have even more of a right to be aggrieved about Eurovision than we do. Like the UK, they haven’t had a top ten in seven years, and haven’t won the thing since Thierry Henry was crawling around in nappies exclaiming the only three words he knew (‘va’, ‘va’ and ‘voom’). The difference, though, is that while the UK have been whinging and faffing about with rap not once but twice, France have churned out a succcession of irresistibly quirky songs – not all of them extraordinary, but most of them good and original, which is all you really ask for amid a sea of identikit crooning and uniformly bad accents. Last year’s entry, ‘Divine’ by Sebastian Tellier, was refreshingly bonkers, while ‘A Chaque Pas’ by Jonatan Cerrada in 2004 would have been a perfectly normal, functional ballad, had it not been for an alarming ten-foot woman on stilts dancing next to him.

Furthermore, France don’t moan about losing like we do. The country affects a collective Gallic shrug and gets on with being France, which is an understandable and worthy pursuit. They don’t expect to win, you see: there’s no PR gubbins about this year being “the year we finally take it seriously”, no exhaustive promotional jetset, no private meeting with Putin. In fact, the very point of Eurovision seems to jar with French sensibilities – not just the competiveness and point scoring, but the winning.

Ironically, it’s for this reason that you’d love France to win, and here is the song that might well do it. ‘Et S’Il Fallait Le Faire’ (And He Fellated Himself At The Fair) perfectly evokes the 1950s cocktail bar, with an out-of-tune piano in the corner and the view of the stage obscured by a thick fug of cigarillo smoke. It oozes class and glamour, and is in many ways far too good for Eurovision. Patricia Kaas, already a successful singer in France, has that splendid 40-Gauloises-par-jour voice that you suspect can only just about manage to belt out three minutes of faultless singing before needing to cough up a blood clot.

Love it. Win, please.

RUSSIA

How on earth do you follow Dima Bilan? In fact, how do you follow three consecutive top three finishes? Thing is, that’s not 22-year-old Anastasis Prikhodko’s biggest problem.

Her biggest problem, it would seem, is that the performer representing Russia, in Moscow, was born in the Ukraine. As a act of national self-emasculation, it would rank somewhere alongside… ooh, I don’t know, having host the Eurovision Song Contest and then getting an Irishman and a Swede to present it.

No, you know what, perhaps her biggest problem is that she actually tried to enter the song in the Ukrainian national selection contest first, but was disqualified for performing the wrong song. Prikhodko launched a legal challenge, but before a decision was made had already nipped over the border to enter the Russian competition. On winning the Russian vote, she faced allegations that the vote was rigged and was criticised for singing part of the song in its original Ukrainian.

No, actually, I reckon her biggest problem that tape of her on a TV show saying she “doesn’t like Chinese people or blacks”. Or the accusations of being a Nazi sympathiser. Or her brother going on Neo-Nazi marches.

I’m fucking with you, because none of these are actually her biggest problem. Her biggest problem – and what a boring, time-honoured biggest problem this is – is that she can’t hold a tune. ‘Mamo’ is actually a sodding good song. You could imagine it on state television, soundtracking a grainy advert for borsch in a can. It’s spoiled, though, by her grating warble, which disintegrates completely at the end into a primeval roar that brings to mind a grizzly bear who’s just had his dinner nicked by a cheeky eagle. So, not good. But that’s not to say it won’t win. It is Russia, after all. Not only do they have an extensive diaspora beyond its borders, but the case of Alexander Litvinenko, the ex-KGB officer who was given a fatal dose of radioactive poisoning after he voted for Malta, shows that diaspora to be both pliant and obedient.

GERMANY

Germany’s never been afraid to go against the grain in Eurovision. 1998’s ‘Guildo Hat Euch Lieb’ was one of the first comedy, as opposed to novelty, songs to take to the Eurovision stage, since when we’ve had a dash of country and some Rat Pack swing, which was actually really good.

This year, it’s swing again, although with something of a maverick bent. Thee ‘Alex’ is Alex Christensen, a techno-DJ-cum-pop-producer, while the ‘Oscar’ is Oscar Loya, is a Mexican-American theatre singer. Together they’ve come with something I’m tentatively going to call ‘Euroswing’. Christensen’s techno heritage (if that’s not an oxymoron) is faintly audible, while Loya is clearly a man in love not only with the sound of his own voice, but the look of his own face and very probably the taste of his own burps. His bullish charisma is what’s required of him here.

Of course, it’ll sink without trace like all German entries do. Not just entries, of course. U-boats, as well.

SPAIN

Being the last act to perform is probably quite a nervewracking undertaking. You’re aware that most of the viewers at home have already made up their minds over who they’re going to vote for, and that only the most extraordinary, outstanding performance will sway them. You’ve had to nervously lay off the booze all day while the eejits who went out first have long since hit the bar and turned the green room blue with their drunken patois. The sound engineers and lighting operators are checking their watches and looking forward to the buffet, and make no secret of their contempt at you for keeping them from their lamb koftas. You notice members of the audience making an early dash for the toilets. Backstage, you can hear the head of the support staff barking directions to an army of cleaners with brooms. It’s all most disorienting.

Unfortunately, neither Soraya nor her song quite have enough about them to deter the people of Europe from their early toilet breaks. It’s just another pop song, with a verse, and a chorus, and trite lyrics about dancing and setting yourself free. It comes as no surprise to find out that it was originally a Greek song, adopted and adapted by Spain after nobody else wanted it. It’s nothing more than Eurovision fluff that will pass unnoticed and unmourned into the ether. Which isn’t entirely Spain’s fault – after all, they didn’t know they were going on last.

Bien vale, ya estamos con la primera entrada en el blog, no me digais por que, pero estamos en semana eurovision y aqui un fan de ella desde los tiempos de Sergio Dalma y su “Bailar pegados”. ¿Es que nadie tiene recuerdos de esas interminables noches de sabado con las canciones de cuando uno era un crio?. A mi que por aquel entonces oia la musica como algo raro, lo que mas me cautivo fueron las votaciones! Todos los años cuando llega ese momento me lo paso en grande, aunque Uribarri nos arruinara el concurso año tras año.  

Bueno pos venga que aqui dejo un video del ultimo ganador, Dima Bilan el ruso, con la fantastica cancion, “Belive me”, que merecio ganar de calle con esa puesta en escena magistral. Para mi no hubo dudas, pero de este festival habia que quedarse con algo mas… y no, no comentaremos nada de nuestro participante, mejor lo obviamos y punto pelota.

No podemos obviar a la participande ukraniana, Ani Lorak, a la postre segunda en el festival y que su cancion muuy festivalera, dejo a mas de uno atonitos ante la tv, al ver esa pedazo mujer con un traje diseñado por Roberto Cavalli con muchas piedrecitas de Swarovsky ahi es nada… Eso si, bien es cierto que muchos no se fijaron en eso precisamente…

Scatta oggi alle ore 21 italiane l’edizione 2009 dell’Eurofestival. Stasera va in scena la prima delle due semifinali, con diciotto canzoni in gara per altrettanti paesi. Questo blog la seguirà in diretta, grazie alla collaborazione con l’amico Eddy Anselmi, giornalista, che si trova a Mosca, al PalaGhiaccio, dove si svolge la manifestazione.

IL MECCANISMO – Si esibiscono i 18 cantanti, uno dopo l’altro. Niente fronzoli, niente perdite di tempo. Conduzione minimale, ridotta all’essenziale, tutta in lingua inglese. In mezzo soltanto gli spot di presentazione dei motivi. AL TERMINE delle 21 esibizioni, mentre andrà in scena la passerella degli ospiti (uno sarà in apertura, il vincitore dell’edizione 2008, Dima Bilan, di cui sopra trovate la canzone con cui ha vinto), si voterà da casa col televoto, per un massimo di 15 minuti. Ciascun paese NON può votare per il proprio cantante in gara.

I primi nove paesi classificati vanno in finale, un decimo sarà ripescato da una giuria in sala. Dall’Italia non si può votare, perchè da noi il programma non va in onda. Se però vi trovate in questo momento in uno dei 18 paesi più sotto oppure in Germania e Gran Bretagna (paesi finalisti di diritto insieme a Russia, Francia e Spagna, che voteranno giovedì), potete farlo, MA NON POTETE VOTARE PER IL PAESE DOVE VI TROVATE

Per mettere tutti sullo stesso piano, i televoti di ciascun paese diventano punti. Ogni paese stila la propria classifica, dando 12 punti a chi ha preso più voti, 10 al secondo, 7 al terzo e poi via a scendere sino al decimo e si farà poi la somma derivata dalle 20 classifiche. La classifica delle due semifinali sarà resa nota solo alla vigilia della finale. Si conosceranno subito soltanto i nomi dei finalisti. Tutto pronto per l’edizione numero 54 dell’Eurofestival che si svolgerà da domani a sabato a Mosca. Sarà una edizione particolarmente ricca. Non sfarzosa, anche se i russi hanno fatto le cose in grande, ma sicuramente di livello importante per quanto concerne i partecipanti, gli autori e le canzoni. 42 paesi in gara, per altrettante canzoni.

Manca l’Italia. Non sarà facile scegliere il sostituto di Dima Bilan, il 26enne prodotto da Timbaland, che l’anno scorso era entrato a Belgrado già con la vittoria in tasca. La sua “Believe” ha fatto il giro del mondo (Italia compresa), è stata incisa in cinque lingue ed ha avuto un buon successo radiofonico. Quest’anno le attenzioni sembrano concentrarsi su un altro figlio dell’Urss, quell’ Alexander Rybak (in alto il video) nato in Bielorussia ma in campo sotto la bandiera della Norvegia.

I bookmakers lo danno in vantaggio su Grecia e Turchia. Il tam tam della rete però sembra gradire i gorgheggi di Malena Ernman (Svezia), il rock degli svizzeri e della girl band irlandese e la Spagna finalmente competititiva con quella Soraya che in patria è già una stella. Ma chissà che alla fine non possa bagnare il naso a tutti Niels Brinck, titolare della canzone più radiofonica di tutte, quella “Believe again” (sopra) che se non altro per il titolo, è la naturale continuazione del brano di Bilan dell’anno scorso.

GLI AUTORI FAMOSI – Anche perché “Believe again” porta la firma di Ronan Keating. L’ex leader dei Boyzone è oggi uno dei protagonisti più apprezzati del panorama pop europeo ed è solo l’ultima firma di lusso in calce a brani eurofestivalieri. Quest’anno però l’accoppiata più forte è quella della Gran Bretagna, con Andrew Lloyd Webber, il re del musical (“Jesus Christ Superstar” e “Chorus” i più noti) che ha musicato i versi di Diane Warren (ha lavorato con Cher, Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, Faith Hill, Aerosmith, sei nomination per i Golden Globe). E dietro le quinte c’è Linda Perry, ex 4 Non Blondes, già produttrice di Pink. il brano (in alto) è “My time” di Jade Ewen

L’Azerbaigian l’anno scorso spese 800mila dollari per l’ottavo posto del debutto. Quest’anno punta altissimo affidandosi ai tormentoni dell’iraniano Arash, che ha all’attivo due singoli di successo radiofonico (“Suddenly” e “Pure love”) in tutto il Nord ed Est europa. Lui che è uno specialista dei duetti sarà sul palco con la bella Aysel. L’italiano Daniele Moretti è invece fra gli autori di “Et Cetera”, il brano delle irlandesi Sinead Mulvey & Black Daisy: è l’unico pezzo di Italia in questa edizione.

LE STELLE DI PRIMA GRANDEZZA – Il nome più roboante è senz’altro quello di Noa. L’israeliana (sopra ilvideo), già premio della Critica a Sanremo 2006 con Carlo Fava ed i Solis String Quartet, lanciata dalla colonna sonora de “La vita è bella”, è stato voluta fortemente dal presidente Shimon Peres. Con lei canta Mira Awad, israeliana di origine araba. Se arrivano in finale insieme all’Azerbaigian avremo un ebrea, un’araba ed un iraniano in campo nella stessa sera.

L’altro nome di peso è quello di Patricia Kaas. Centinaia di milioni di dischi venduti in vent’anni di carriera portando in giro per il Mondo la chanson francese: “E’un onore per me rappresentare all’Eurofestival il mio paese”, ha dichiarato. Sarà una spruzzata di classe.

GLI ALTRI BIG – Malena Ernman è una soprano famosissima in Svezia, così come tutto il mondo germanofono (e l’est europeo) conosce benissimo Alex C, dj che si presenta in gara con Oscar Loya come Alex Swings Oscar Sings (sopra il video). “Du bist so porno” e “Du hast der schonen arsch der welt” hanno fatto ballare in questi mesi l’intera Germania. Susanne Georgi, che gareggia sotto i colori di Andorra, è famosa in Danimarca perché con la sorella Pernilla forma il duo pop “Me & My”, che due anni fa arrivò secondo al Melodi Grand Prix (la selezione danese). Fama oltreconfine anche per la bella Hadise, cantante, showgirl e presentatrice turca da anni sulle scene della tv belga.

Anche Sakis Rouvas in Grecia è una istituzione. Talmente famoso che è stato il primo ad essere selezionato quest’anno, a soli due mesi dalla conclusione dell’edizione 2008: la Grecia, che lo ha avuto in gara già nel 2004 (e gli affidò la conduzione nel 2005), punta su di lui per vincere. Lovebugs in Svizzera e Regina in Bosnia, hanno alle spalle carriere decennali. Soraya Arnelas ha vinto per un pelo le selezioni spagnole (ed ha vinto il nostro contest virtuale), ma in patria è molto apprezzata dal pubblico: dopo aver partecipato nel 2003 ad Operazione Trionfo ha alle spalle due vendutissimi album di cover anni’80 ed un terzo di inediti, appena uscito, che sta andando molto bene.

Ha fatto invece discutere la presenza in gara per la Russia padrona di casa di Anastasya Prihodko. Ucraina, vincitrice nel 2007 di Fabrica Zvezd, lo “X Factor” russo, squalificata dalle selezioni del suo paese perché in gara con un pezzo non inedito, è stata inserita di forza dalla tv russa (la stessa che in qualche modo favorì Bilan l’anno scorso) a selezioni in corso. E in patria c’è chi parla di brogli.

COPIE, ARTISTI DI STRADA E VECCHI RAGAZZI – Poi ci sono quelli curiosi. De Toppers sono una ensemble olandese (tre solisti uniti per l’occasione) specializzata in cover degli Abba. Quarantenni travestiti da boyband, finti trasgressivi, cercano il voto degli alternativi con un pezzo su una base di plastica. Sono forse la delusione più grossa del festival, assieme alla canzone del Belgio.

Cantata da tale Patrick Ouchene, clone di Elvis, nella musica, nell’aspetto e nelle movenze. E allora forse, anche se la canzone non è di quelle più semplici, ci si ritroverà ad applaudire l’hip hop dei cechi Gipsy. Cz (sopra il video), il cui leader è un ex ragazzo di strada. I primi a portare in giro per l’Europa (riempiendo le piazze) la lingua del popolo rom.
