Those who loathed Rob Zombie’s take on the Halloween franchise…scream. Those who actually enjoyed it, here’s an easter egg for you.

Missed Me! I’m Back Horror Fans! Contrary to a few random emails I’ve received I am still among the living. After a two week break due to some kind of crazy cold, I am back with even more horror rants. Sorry ahead of time. But, from the looks of it I haven’t missed anything, but in case you too have been in a Vicks Vaporub haze like me, here’s something to bring you out of it.

Apparently, we have officially run out of original material and movies from the past to remake, we are now going to remake Amityville horror a second time. Because the first one went so well, I guess. Actually I liked a half crazy and in some scenes, half naked Ryan Reynolds running around trying to kill his fam.

According to Bloody Disgusting the Weinstein’s and Dimension Films are planning on doing a remake of the Amityville Horror. Now if you remember Michael Bay and his minions already did this, so what’s the deal? Is this the Weinstein’s hail Mary pass? You know they the Weinstein Company is supposedly have financial issues. I’m pretty sure this is not going to help, but good luck anyway.

MTV continues to get these great exclusives. Scream writer Kevin Williamson caught up with the music/reality television channel and reveals a couple of interesting tidbits for the upcoming Scream 4.

“The fourth one is an ensemble…It’ll take place right now, 10 years later, and it’s going to take place in [Sidney Prescott's hometown of] Woodsboro. We’ll have our three main characters…We’ll also be introducing a little group, a little ensemble of new castmembers. That’ll take us through the next three.”

So a new trilogy has been confirmed. Ehh, could be worse, it could be I Know What You Did Last Summer or Urban Legend. The trinity (Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox Arquette and David Arquette) are all confirmed to return, while series director Wes Craven has only expressed interest in returning.

Riding the recent horror movie bandwagon, The Weinstein Company is looking to shoot Scream 4 in 3-D. In addition, Bloody Disgusting is also reporting director Wes Craven is closer than ever to returning. Franchise creator and scriber of the first two films Kevin Williamson, along with the trinity (David Arquette, Courtney Cox-Arquette and Neve Campbell) are all inked and set to return.

It seems the Weinstein’s and screenwriter Kevin Williamson were finally able to break Neve Campbell, as the actress, who originally stated she would not be returning for another Scream, has now signed on to star in the upcoming fourth installment of the popular horror franchise.

Scream 4 is said to be the first of a new trilogy, and Dimension Films is talking to Wes Craven to direct. In addition to Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette are also set to reprise their roles.

Released in 1996, the first Scream told the story of the fictional town Woodsboro, CA being terrorized by a masked killer who enjoys tormenting his victims with phone calls and movie references. The killer’s main target is Sidney Prescott (Campbell), a teenage girl whose mother Maureen fell victim to a brutal murder one year earlier. The film takes on a who-done-it mystery, with many of her friends and townspeople being fellow targets and suspects.

Sequels followed in 1997 and 2000. The franchise is looked at as revitalizing the slasher film genre in the mid-1990s. The first two Scream films grossed more than $100 million each, while Scream 3 grossed $89 million in the U.S.

Scream 4 is slated to begin production in April of May of next year.

Journalist Nikki Finke breaks the news of Halloween 3-D being postponed. According to Finke, “Bob Weinstein shut down H3D pre-production “because Bob just felt it was rushing too fast.” This is actually good news for the franchise. I’m surprised the suits up at the Weinstein Company used common sense and decided to fall back on rushing the production of the film. Learn from your mistakes!

Bob Weinstein, fundador e chefe do estúdio Dimension Films, confirmou em entrevista à Variety, que a atriz Neve Campbell vai mais uma vez interpretar a personagem Sidney Prescott no filme Pânico 4. Courtney Cox e David Arquette, também retornam aos seus papéis na franquia.

Weinstein disse que a produção do longa vai começar entre abril e maio de 2010 e  que será o primeiro de uma nova trilogia, o roteiro do filme foi escrito por Kevin Williamson, criador da franquia. Wes Craven, que dirigiu os três primeiros, está negociando seu retorno.

O empresário contou algumas novidades sobre outros projetos do estúdio, todos relacionados à famosas franquias. Robert Rodriguez está escrevendo o quarto filme de Pequenos Espiões, que será filmado com a tecnologia 3D, a produção será rodada em março de 2010.

Halloween III também será em 3D, com lançamento previsto para outubro do ano que vem. Pelo jeito o estúdio gostou tanto da tecnologia que os remakes de Colheita Maldita, Hellraiser e Um Lobisomem Americano em Londres também serão serão filmados em 3D.

Sendo direto, desncessário reviver a franquia Pânico, que rendeu só um filme legalzinho e dois horríveis, dúvido que o filme faça algum sucesso, mas será bom para Neve Campbell que anda sumida.

Escrevi há menos de um mês que a tecnologia 3D estava começando a ser usada de maneira errada pelos estúdios de Hollywood e uma notícia como essa confirma minha teoria. Claro que é boa a ideia de filmar filmes de terror utilizando essa nova tecnologia, mas não em franquias antigas, afinal é ridiculo pensar um filme como Hellraiser em 3D, pior ainda Halloween com um personagem que já não assusta mais ninguém. Dessa lista o único projeto interessante é Um Lobisomem Americano em Londres, claro desde que seja com uma boa história e não só mais um filme de lobisomens.

Bob Weinstein has said “I’m going back to doing what I do best,” that seems to mean going back to genre films for Dimension, with familiar faces onboard, such as Neve Campbell back for Scream 4, and a new emphasis on 3D.

Robert Rodriguez is writing “Spy Kids 4,” which he will direct in 3D. The movie will be made in partnership with Disney and will start shooting in March, Weinstein said.

In addition, the company wants to shoot “Halloween III” in 3D, aiming to release it in October 2010.

“I’m heading back to my franchise films,” Weinstein declared, citing plans to shoot sequels to “Hellraiser” and “Scanners” in 3D. Also on the slate are remakes of “Short Circuit” and “An American Werewolf in London.” “These films are our strength, and we are committed to doing them in style.”

The first two “Scream” pictures grossed more than $100 million each, while “Scream 3″ grossed $89 million in the U.S.

Weinstein also said that “The Road” will open wide Nov. 25 in some 800 theaters.

In response to a query, Weinstein said, “There is no question that financing is readily available to produce and market these films.” He added: “I am eager to expand our scope in the 3D business.”

I think jumping on the 3D bandwagon is a bit silly as there is still no guarantee this is not just going to be a flash in the pan.

Plus Hellraiser and Scanners have probably been picked as they have chains flashing out to you and exploding heads to smash out at you. As for remaking An American Werewolf in London I really, wish they would leave that well alone.

Feast is a 2005 horror film that is a result of the third season Project Greenlight contest. The winning team was composed of writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton and director John Gulager. It was executive produced by Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris Moore (through their LivePlanet production company), Wes Craven and the Maloof family. The film was produced and distributed by Dimension Films in association with Maloof Motion Pictures and Neo Art & Logic.

Originally produced at Miramax, the film was later taken by Harvey and Bob Weinstein to their newly formed studio, The Weinstein Company, along with the Dimension Films brand after their so called “divorce” from Miramax Film.

The film premiered at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, the Chicago International Film Festival, the International Horror & Sci-Fi Film Festival, and the Savannah Film Festival on various dates throughout October 2005. John Gulager was named “Best Director” for Feast at Fantastic Fest 2005.

After a period of delays, the film eventually made its way to American theaters on September 22, 2006. The DVD was released on October 17, 2006.

• Clu Gulager, the actor playing Bartender, is the father of the film’s director, John Gulager. Also, Diane Ayala Goldner, who plays Harley Mama, is John’s wife.
• The role of Hero was offered to Mark Wahlberg, but he turned it down. Josh Duhamel was also interested but forced to drop out for scheduling conflicts.
• The movie’s development was part of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s “Project Greenlight 3″ (2005) program.
• One of several films that Harvey and Bob Weinstein took to their new production company, the Weinstein Co., after their separation from Miramax/Dimension Films in early 2005.
• The original script for the film included a lot more action spots, but producers decided they had to be cut to fit the budget.

My Bloody Valentine 3D director Patrick Lussier has been named as the official helmer of the third dimension adaptation of Halloween. Bloody-Disgusting and Dread Central reports he’ll be joined by familiar face, Todd Farmer, who both worked together on Valentine for Lionsgate. Shooting will begin this fall. Was that really a shocking announcement?

Pouco tempo após a estreia de Halloween 2 nos cinemas Americanos a Dimension filmes liberou a informação sobre o diretor do próximo filme do Serial Killer Michael Meyers.

Para este terceiro longa o diretor escolhido foi Patrick Lussier, que veio substituir Rob Zombie que agora está envolvido no projeto da refilmagem do filme A Bolha. Patrick Lussier já é conhecido do pessoal da Dimension Films, onde já trabalhou em alguns projetos, sendo um deles como diretor do terror também em 3D Dia dos Namorados Macabro, que foi lançado no começo deste ano.

Lussier também estará encarregado do roteiro de Halloween 3, e ainda não há nenhuma noticia sobre a trama, mas segundo Bob Weinstein, executivo da Dimension ele sentiu uma forte sensação ao ler uma breve sinopse do filme.

Mesmo perdendo para Premonição 3 em seu fim de semana de estreia os executivos da Dimension estão apostando em Halloween 3D e estão fazendo de tudo para que a estreia do filme aconteça em 2010.

Pues con esta tendencia que se está dando de realizar remakes de cintas clásicas (o no tan clásicas) de terror, se ha dado a conocer el interés de Rob Zombie (director del remake de Halloween) por llevar a la pantalla grande su versión de la película de 1958, The Blob, o mejor conocida en México como “La mancha voraz”, que en su momento tuviera como protagonista a Steve McQueen y que trata de una sustancia alienígena que cae en un campo y comienza a “devorar” humanos, haciéndose cada vez más grande.

Zombie ha declarado que lo primero que va a hacer diferente comparándola con la versión original será el diseño del villano, pues según dice, el monstruo gelatinoso gigante pudo haber sido terrorífico para los espectadores en los años 50, pero ahora se reirían. La pregunta inmediata sería: ¿y cómo tiene en su mente que deba ser la nueva mancha?

Rob Zombie será también productor de la cinta, en conjunto con el expresidente de Dimension Films, Richard Saperstein, que ahora maneja una compañía llamada Genre, Co.

Creo que Rob Zombie es, hoy por hoy, un director incomprendido en la industria del cine. Hay mucha gente que afirma que sus películas son una porquería, pero a mi no me parecen para nada malas, es sólo que rescatan un estilo de cine clase B ochentero y con tramas lentas, pero bajo la óptica de un antigüo rockero, ¿rara combinación, no?

Hollywood continues to remake or “reimagine” everything, and the latest property to fall under its sites is Short Circuit. Yes, the loveable military robot is looking to return to the silverscreen with the help of Dimension Films and Steve Carr.

Steve Carr, who last direct Paul Blart: Mall Cop, will direct Short Circuit, the remake of the 1986 sci-fi movie. Written by Dan Milano, the remake will serve as a reboot that brings the iconic Johnny 5 into the 21st century. Built by the military to be a highly sophisticated weapon, Johnny 5 develops a conscience and personality after being hit by lightning. He befriends a lonely boy and his fractured family.

Dimension Films has signed Steve Carr to direct Short Circuit, the remake of the 1986 sci-fi pic according to Variety.

Carr is coming off the Kevin James hit “Paul Blart: Mall Cop.”

Scripted by Dan Milano (“Robot Chicken”), the remake is a robot reboot that brings the iconic Johnny 5 into the 21st century. Built by the military to be a highly sophisticated weapon, Johnny 5 develops a conscience and personality after being hit by lightning. He befriends a lonely boy and his fractured family.

Instead of the comedy hi-jinks of Steve Guttenberg and a high tech robot, they’ve turned the story into a Lassie kind of thing.

They also mention that Johnny 5 is iconic so I take that to mean he will look like he did in the original films.

Anyone else thinking that this may be a bad idea?
