What purpose is there in intellectualizing existence? Does it bring us closer to the truth? What is

What purpose is there in intellectualizing existence? Does it bring us closer to the truth? What is the truth? Is it being able to describe the patterns that an electron takes, or how exactly memories are formed in the brain and stored by our consciousness, or soul? Is knowing the truth understanding how energy transforms into it’s various forms and knowing that our existence may be more than what we perceive with our bodies? Is it feeling the energy that exists around us as vibrations and signals?

What are we trying to find? Some say we are finding ourselves, that it brings us closer to knowing who we are and what we are. What if we’re asking the wrong questions? Maybe by intellectualizing this existence we are really looking past what we are meant to see. Maybe in trying to find answers through the logical mind, we are really digging ourselves a hole, and creating answers for questions that were never meant to be asked. What if all we are doing is creating another distraction for ourselves? After all, if the truth is the truth, should it not be so simple that all can understand? Should not the truth be so simple that even a child could understand it? Should not the truth be so simple that even someone who cannot read, or write, can understand it when they experience it?

And though we may answer yes to the simplicity of truth, there are those who would have us believe in a fantasy so conceptualized that they themselves cannot comprehend it’s magnitude. They claim to understand and hold the keys to a knowledge that no one owns. With business cards in tow and a new spiffy title to boot, they show their pearly whites.

The truth isn’t for sale. It is not a secret that is hidden from site. It is everywhere, in everything, in all that we do and in all that we are. It is not some vibration, or some new fantastic form of energy. It simply is. It is who we are, and what we have always been.

(source, and here is more M.C. Escher)

Economic rights are a subset of human rights. Put very briefly and simplistically, they are what could be called anti-poverty rights: for example, there’s a right to a certain standard of living, to social security, to work, to fair wages, to healthcare, housing etc.

It’s an understatement to say that there’s no universal consensus on these rights. Some say that these aren’t “real” human rights, even some who believe that poverty is a real problem (like Bill Easterly for example). Others say that these rights are useless or even harmful. Here are a few of the most common objections raised against economic rights, and my counter-objections.

The big state criticism

Economic rights are believed to require invasion of privacy and hence violations of an important freedom right (freedom rights such as free speech, privacy, habeas corpus etc. are usually distinguished from economic rights, political rights etc.). In order to verify whether people have a right to social security benefits or healthcare benefits, the state has to check people’s income (legal and illegal), their family composition, their health, their medical consumption, their lifestyle etc.

The assumption behind this criticism is that the state is the only or the main party responsible for the realization of economic rights. This is not the case. People in need can call on other people to help. And these other people have a moral responsibility to help. The duties of mutual assistance, charity and philanthropy point to a horizontal aspect of economic rights. People in need do not only have a vertical right to assistance, or a right directed at the state. Their economic rights can be addressed at their fellow citizens, and these have a duty to respect and protect these rights. It’s only when horizontal duties fail that the state should intervene. If we think of economic rights in this way, the dangers of an overbearing state don’t look that ominous anymore.

The rule that economic rights should – in part – be realized by citizens has another advantage as well: economic rights tend to foster community spirit and feelings of solidarity and belonging.

But this insistence on solidarity shouldn’t obscure the rule that people have a responsibility to help themselves and support themselves. This kind of independence is a part of freedom and an important good. Solidarity comes into play only when self-help is unsuccessful or impossible, and the state comes into play only when solidarity is unsuccessful or absent.

Different kinds of duties

Another objection: some say that economic rights, if they are rights at all, are radically different from “normal” human rights – also called freedom rights – and can therefore be given a lower priority (and maybe aren’t even real rights at all). Freedom rights imply duties of abstention or forbearance, whereas economic rights require duties of active help, involvement and intervention. In the case of violations of freedom rights, the remedy is easy: stop doing what you’re doing. In the case of violations of economic “rights”, the remedy is often very difficult if not impossible. If there is no work, no one can give it to me. If a country is poor, no one can raise the standard of living.

When freedom rights are violated, the victim can go to a court and a judge can force the violator to stop his or her actions. When economic rights are violated, it’s useless to go to a court. Not only isn’t there an obvious violator who can be stopped, there is often no one who can stop the violation from happening. Hence it looks like these rights are unenforceable and often have no remedy. Rather than rights, it seems that they are aspirations or policy goals, often long term policy goals.

However, there’s again an erroneous assumption underlying all of this. The distinction between the two types of duties – forbearance and active assistance – isn’t clean-cut. Freedom rights require active intervention by the state in order to enforce forbearance. They require an efficient judiciary and police force. For some states, this may be as unattainable as prosperity. In fact, it’s precisely because of a lack of prosperity that many states are unable to guarantee protection for freedom rights. Of course, the fact that economic rights are a prerequisite for freedom rights isn’t a sufficient reason to call them rights. But neither is it a reason not to call them rights.

Conversely, economic rights often require more forbearance than active intervention. Economic rights in China during the Great Leap Forward would have been better served by state forbearance. All types of human rights require forbearance and intervention. Perhaps economic rights generally need more intervention, but that is a difference in degree and not in essence, and it isn’t a sufficient reason to reject the label of “rights” for the aspirations inherent in economic rights.

Ought implies can

There’s another criticism of economic rights, related to the previous one. Economic rights are said to violate a general rule for rights: ought implies can; there can be no obligation to do something if there is no capability to do it. You cannot have a duty to help someone who’s drowning if you can’t swim yourself. Hence the person drowning doesn’t have a right to be assisted by you. The same is said to be true of economic rights which therefore aren’t real rights. If a poor country doesn’t have the resources to help its poor citizens, then these citizens don’t have a right to be helped.

However, we don’t follow the same logic in the case of freedom rights. Freedom rights also require resources, as we have seen. When a state doesn’t have the resources necessary to protect its citizens’ freedom rights, we usually don’t say that the citizens of such a state have lost their freedom rights. People have rights irrespective of the probability that they can be protected. Or better: the less people’s rights are protected, the more important it is that they have rights (see here). And anyway, violations of economic rights don’t occur because there are insufficient resources but because of an unequal distribution of resource, nationally or internationally. So the “can” part of “ought implies can” isn’t as fanciful as the critics of economic rights believe.

Economic rights are superfluous and useless

This is supposed to be the case because free markets should automatically produce a certain standard of living for everyone that is high enough to realize the goals inherent in economic rights. Free trade, deregulated markets and low taxes cause profits to rise, which in turn means more investments, which in turn means more and better jobs and higher incomes. All boats rise on a rising tide.

Now, it’s my belief that history – and especially recent history – has shown that this isn’t enough. Free markets are beneficial, but they don’t automatically provide high standards of living for everyone.

Economic rights are harmful and counterproductive

This is a stronger version of the “useless” argument. Economic rights are believed to require a big state (see above), high taxes and intrusive regulation. All of this hinders the economy and the creation of wealth. As a result of economic rights, there is less wealth to redistribute, and economic rights therefore undo what they want to achieve.

They are also harmful in another way: they violate freedom rights, especially the right to privacy and the right to property (because of redistribution). We’ve already seen that we can mitigate this risk when we include horizontal duties. But even if this risk is real, why should property and privacy automatically rank higher than the absence of poverty? If we assume that economic rights are real rights, then it’s not surprising to see that they can contradict other rights. Contradictions between human rights are very common. The right to privacy is often in conflict with free speech for example. Sometimes one right has to be limited for the sake of another. So why should this be a problem when dealing with economic rights?

Of course, one shouldn’t dramatize. Economic rights and freedom rights are generally not incompatible. On the contrary, they are interdependent. Freedom for the poor often doesn’t mean a whole lot. But, on the other hand, the squeaky hinge gets the oil: poverty has to have a voice if it is to be eliminated.

You’re from another planet,” Carla declared, awed.

“Sort of,” Nathan acknowledged. “I guess. In a way. But not exactly.”

Carla harrumphed. “Do you live on a planet?” she barked.

“Yes.

“Is it this one?”

Nathan shook his head, no.

“Then you come from another planet.” Carla topped this statement off with a self-satisfied smile and nod.

“But that’s not precisely true,” Nathan protested. “It’s not so much that I come from another planet as it is that I come from another dimension.”

“You come from time?” Marty piped in, half-facetious and half-disbelieving. Nathan and Carla greeted the statement with their own mixture of confusion and anger, so he felt the need to explain. “The fourth dimension, you know? Time. Isn’t that what scientists say?”

“Scientists are wrong,” Nathan said, letting the words thud their way into the conversation.

“It’s a coexisting reality,” Carla offered. “They must be made of neutrinos or tachyons or something like that, right?”

Carla was, at least, closer. “It’s more that your three dimensions are a very small subset of ours,” Nathan explained. “We’re aware of you, even though you’re not aware of us.”

“You’re like a security guard at the mall,” Marty said. “You can see everyone, because you’ve got video monitors trained on everything, but we don’t know that you exist unless we see the big upside-down silver dome thing that looks like it’s supposed to be decorative and realize that there’s probably a camera inside it. Right?”

“Those upside-down silver domes have cameras inside them?” Nathan asked, shocked. “They are not very good, then. I steal from stores all the time. I guess it’s a fair metaphor, though. It’s easy—well, not that difficult, at least—to come here from Tivoli, because we know where we need to go. Getting back isn’t so easy, because my home lies in a direction that doesn’t so much exist. I mean, it sort of exists, because it must somehow, and I can almost even see it, sort of over there.” Nathan pointed to a space behind, above, and to the left of him, but to get there he twisted and coiled his arms enough to suggest it had at least two more joints than it actually did.

“So it’s a one-way trip,” Marty suggested.

“That’s not precisely true,” Nathan replied, with much the same inflection as before. “It’s more just that I can’t return. There is equipment that will sort of act as a tether to my dimension, or a guiderope, or something. I don’t know anything about how it actually works, just what it does. And that they were pretty clear that my ship wouldn’t have one.”

Marty figured this meant that Nathan was stuck on Earth and might as well just make the best of it, and was about to say so, but Carla was a bit quicker. “Another dimension. What’s it like?”

“It’s like…” Nathan’s brows furrowed and he scratched his cheek in consideration of how to boil the enormity of the question down to a concept that words could possibly convey. “It’s like if you had a tattoo that was of yourself on yourself, but the tattoo was a hundred and twenty-five percent scale.”

Carla gestured with her fingers in an attempt to work out the spatial relations of this declaration. She eventually managed to, in her mind at least. “Hypertattoo,” she intoned, as reverently as a bishop might discuss the Shroud of Turin.

“All very well,” interrupted Marty, significantly less reverently. “But if you can’t get back, then exactly what is it that you want us to do?”

*****

This is something I’ve worked up for Exile Issues, although I’m not sure that I’m going to be using it in anything resembling this form.

The basic story of the book is that Nathan, a man from another dimension, is exiled to ours, and attempts to get back to his. His dimension has four, uh, spatial dimensions, and while it’s relatively simple to get from his to ours, getting back is much harder. This is a first attempt to explain how that works.

Apart from the tattoo line and the security guard line, though, I suspect this won’t make the final cut. I’ve got an idea of how I want to do it; the information will come from the narrator and discuss all of the known dimensions and their attitudes toward those below them.

*****

Also, in metaposty-news: I’ve added a list of links and added a section to announce what I’m reading. The first is because I like them, and the second is mostly to hold myself accountable to constantly be reading. It’s fundamental, right? Both are in the right-hand sidebar.

Insert the word most applicable for your life. We’ve said it. We’ve heard it. I’

Insert the word most applicable for your life.

We’ve said it. We’ve heard it. I’m glad I’m impervious to it now but I think about how much it used to affect me. And kids say it with such expectation. But we all know kids are ignorant (it’s not their fault. They were born that way) but where do adults get off putting down something beyond their personal tastes? By 20 you should have it figured out that people don’t always like what you like and YOU are not supposed to like what everyone else likes.

So how does some else’s opinion change the way you feel about something. I am happy to say I now listen to Roxette as much as I feel like and I don’t give a fuck what anyone thinks. I think they’re great. But it wasn’t always this way…. At one point I was told they suck and away they went. Thats when I got into more aggressive music, lets see someone try telling me this sucks! That’s the good thing about aggressive stuff. It’s already saying fuck anyone else who doesn’t like it. It’s kind of a bully like that.

So lets take a look at me now. What am I into? I can tell you what I’m not into, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, all that pop crap. Why? The lyrics are totally vacant. No thought seems to be put into them at all. Mark Twain once said: ”The difference between the right word and almost the right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.” And he is spinning in his grave. So what does this have to do with musical bullying? Here’s what: I’m the bully now. Instead of heaviness I’m an intellectual bully. It doesn’t matter how meticulously I can pick it apart, if you like it, good. It’s music. It’s there to like.

But lets flex our brains for a second, I’m keeping you on your toes. This philosophy for freedom of taste is not universal. Lets go back to something else I heard, and all YOU heard or said, as a kid. Math sucks. If only I knew how much harder math was for other people and I didn’t think I was supposed to like all the same things everybody else likes. As it turns out math, science, all that tough stuff, doesn’t suck. I’m pretty good at math myself but think of how good I’d be if I had realized how much potential it has. Cool stuff like building robots, real-life other dimensions and important stuff like renewable energy. We all thought it sucked because we didn’t realize it’s connection to the world we know. It’s a big leap from the fundamentals to a microwave (I still don’t get how microwaves work).

But the best thing about science is, by it’s nature, there is no accounts for taste. That’s the point of it. If you’re gonna fudge the numbers to prove yourself right you’re a lousy scientist. Not a scientist at all, actually. You’re a ********* (add your own witty jab here).

Tune in next time for my article about 82% of the US population (and similar numbers for the rest of the world) being in the Service Industry where I begin my campaign to change it’s name to the Handjob Industry for all it’s accomplishments.

The ebb and flow are rather like your riverbeds and ocean floors, yet it has different properties too.

You see, a great many beings interact with it through manifestation – in that we mean conscious intent. So what we’re saying is that your waters behave as your society expects them to. Quantum physics apply with the moon also, but there are realities different from yours also influencing it. So it is also ‘governed’ by those beliefs or ‘laws’.

So if you as a nation are seeking expansion of consciousness, we invite you to use the moon as a symbol to see all possibilities. It already has great effect on you in what it already transmits in its continuous beams, and the more you believe it can do much more – it will. It will ‘live up’ to these possibilities.

I am not a scientist so I have no idea but it is just a question.**

Source: What does it mean?

"Gateway of the Sun" monolith in South America

An interesting report circulating in the Kremlin today is claiming that the massive power blackout that hit South America this past week was due to a ‘Time Wave’ that emanated from the mysterious Bolivian Andes region called Tiahuanaco where the mysterious 10 ton “Gateway of the Sun” monolithic (carved from a single block of Andesite granite) [photo top left] is located and was ‘triggered’ by an ‘anomalous event’ at the World’s largest and highest-energy particle accelerator, Large Hadron Collider (LHC) [photo 2nd left], in Switzerland run by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and ‘rippled through’ the thousands of ancient pyramid complexes located throughout Brazil and other countries of South America.

[Note: Time Waves as refereed to in these reports are more commonly known in the Western World as gravitational waves which are fluctuations in the curvature of spacetime.]

According to these reports, the CERN scientists at the Large Hadron Collider began a series of experiments on November 1st (2009) in preparation for the restarting of operations when they “shockingly” discovered that their testing was distorting our Earth’s magnetic field and had “shot off” a “Time Wave” towards the core of our Planet that their tracking showed “veered exactly” towards the ‘Sun Gate’ high in the Bolivian Andes Mountains.

Most unfortunately, however, was when the initial ‘Time Wave’ spawned by the LHC ‘erupted’ from the ‘Sun Gate’ and headed out towards the space above South America it (literally) ‘glanced into’ the path of an Iberworld Airbus A330-300 flown by Air Comet which was ready to begin its descent into Santa Cruz, Bolivia but then found itself ‘instantly and mysteriously’ over the skies of Santa Cruz, Spain over 5,500 miles (8,900 km) away. [Note: All 170 passengers and the crew of flight A7-301were safe and after 17 hours on the ground in Spain departed back to Bolivia where they arrived safe and sound.]

After this mysterious event CERN scientists shut down the LHC blaming their failed experiment on a bird dropping a piece of bread onto outdoor machinery, after which their Director for Research and Scientific Computing, Sergio Bertolucci, warned that the titanic LHC machine may possibly create or discover previously unimagined scientific phenomena, or “unknown unknowns” such as an “extra dimension”.

But, even after shutting down the LHC the “dimensional distortions” created in South America by this ‘Time Wave’ continued to felt and led to the “Gateway of the Sun” monolith sending out what Russian scientists have likened to a “digital communication” towards the thousands of Pyramids in Brazil and other “ancient sites” throughout the Andes Region of South America and leading to the massive power outage that plunged tens-of-millions into darkness.

Brazilian government officials in seeking to hide the true cause of this massive power outage had originally blamed it on “atmospheric discharges related to strong rain and wind”, a claim immediately shot down by State prosecutors who are demanding the public be told the truth before the week is out.

Even worse for these regions in South America, these reports continue, is that the ‘effects’ of this ‘Time Wave’ may be ‘far from over’, according to Russian scientists who have noted a marked increase in seismic activity throughout the locations of the most ancient cities in Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina.

The latest of these ancient cities to be hit by the effects of this ‘Time Wave’ are the pre-Inca ruins located near Calama on the banks of the river Loa which was struck today by a powerful 6.5 magnitude earthquake, and the Bolivian regions of Tiahuanaco struck by a 5.8 magnitude trembler shortly thereafter.

Not being widely known to most peoples in the West is that the America’s have one of the largest concentrations of ancient sacred sites and pyramids in the World, especially in Brazil where in 1996 the oldest of these structures were discovered and dated to have been built centuries before the great pyramids in Egypt.

Unlike their Egyptian counterparts however, the builders of the pyramids in the America’s are not known, and in the case of the 12 Brazilian pyramids lying near the Peruvian Andes Mountains (the longest and among the oldest mountains in the World) still unexplored.

Even more interesting to note about the ancient origins of the peoples of South America is the base root of all of their languages being tied to Europe in what many Russian historians categorize as the Antediluvian “pre-flood” period of human civilization before the last great cataclysmic changes to our Earth took place an estimated 5,000 years ago.

Now with the age of the South America Andes region known, and being combined with the thousands of ancient pyramids and cities built there (with a precision we are still unable to match in our modern times) many Russian historians have long theorized that these great mountains became the home of the most advanced members of the pre-flood civilization who had fled there when our Earth last overturned itself.

Even more interesting to note are those theories that state that the ancient survivors of these cataclysmic Earth changes set up a ‘warning system’ throughout South America (its vast Amazon region known to be the “lungs of our World”) that is connected to our entire Planet to forewarn future generations of human kind when these horrors would be visited upon our species once again. And their ‘method’ of establishing this ‘warning system’, and encoding the memories of our Earth’s most ancient past, was through the building of pyramids, all around the Globe, of silicon rich stones such as granite and sandstone.

Not known to many is that the basis of our present modern technological age is our Earth’s most common metalloid, silicon, the second most abundant element after oxygen on our Planet that makes up fully 25.7% of our Earth’s crust, and which without we would not have glass, concrete, cement or any electrical device, especially computers. Even more importantly, the ability of silicon to both store and transmit power are termed vital to our Planets long-term survival against the ravages that nearly two centuries of using fossil fuels has visited upon us all.

What is not known to our scientists of today is how powerful this ancient ‘silicon warning system’ actually is, or how much of it is still intact. But now, after it’s being struck by this new “Time Wave” there are fearful glimpses, indeed, of the unimaginable power still latent within it. To what purpose does it hold for our present World? That is not known by the scientists of today, but only by those of the long ago yesterdays of our human past who have through the centuries warned of the things to come.

Much too sadly there are too few left to heed the ancient warnings, let alone act to protect themselves from the catastrophic horrors to come.

But, for those seeking the truest knowledge of these things they should start re-learning how to listen to the rocks, a suggestion that the vast majority of these peoples will most certainly scoff and ridicule at, while at the same time listening to their music playing on their ‘modified rocks’ for hearing they call radios, or ‘modified rocks’ for viewing they call television, or the ‘modified rocks’ for writing they call computers.

The creative team at Badec Bros Deco was recently commissioned to manufacture a stainless steel, cascading water feature for a client. Firstly, we created seven Cubedec B pots – troughs – in varying dimensions from grade 304 stainless steel.

The stainless steel sheets were folded and welded together along a single seam line, to create a flawless overall appearance. Once all of the troughs were manufactured, we installed the water feature on site, with the lowest trough being filled with black pebbles.

We can also manufacture this stunning water feature from mild steel and finish it in one of three finishes, namely: a mild steel finish, rusted finish and powder coating finish. There are literally hundreds of different colours to choose from for your powder coating finish and this finish is SABS approved. Our Cubedec water features can be customized to any size and shape. As our CEO, Edrich Badenhorst likes to say; “The sky is not the limit.”

Please feel free to contact us with your ideas and we will be sure to bring them to fruition. We love a creative challenge!

We really love a creative challenge and excel at designing and creating customized exterior or interior décor pieces for your home, office or garden, such as innovative mild steel pots, trendy garden benches, artistic trellises, arches and pergolas, as well as, imaginative sculptures.

Our creative team can dream up and manufacture any type of décor that your heart desires and customize it to your specifications – size, shape and colour. We use a wide variety of mediums to create our master pieces, including mild steel, stainless steel, wood, sandstone, plexiglas, mosaic tiling and the like.

We manufacture our steel dustbins from mild steel and can add intricate detail to the surface to beautify it. There are three finishes to choose from. We can powder coat your contemporary steel dustbin in any colour imaginable, or we can apply a mild steel finish or a rusted finish. It is possible to manufacture your unique steel dustbin according to the exact dimensions you require.

We were recently commissioned to manufacture a large amount of dustbins for a client. The body of the dustbin was manufactured out of mild steel, which was folded and welded along one seam, and then finished in a rusted effect. After that was done, we clad the dustbin with teak planks and added a stainless steel lid to finish off the product.

In the future it may become possible to bridge the gap between our universe and others. However, if

In the future it may become possible to bridge the gap between our universe and others. However, if it turns out that our universes are separated by immense invisible forces, as at this point it seems they likely are, it may require a universe worth of energy to build or maintain such a bridge.

If dark matter and dark energy not only have a relationship to each other but are somehow responsible for the particular balance of our universe than these huge forces may also be linked in some way to other universes. But if there is no way except through gravity or other large scale phenomena for us to interact with dark matter or dark energy, we could be stuck. Until, that is, we discover a way to siphon off energy from some invisible place.

By using energy from one universe it may be possible to create a bridge to another. The problem is that there is no sure way of knowing that we do not cause harm by doing this. It may turn out that most universes don’t form matter as we know it and consist mostly of energy. If that is the case there can be little harm done to anyone personally, but is that scale of destruction permissible at all? However, if there is life or some rare beauty akin to it existing in that universe invisible to us because it is made of particles that we cannot interact with or perceive, we may commit epic atrocity. On the other end of things, there is always the chance that by building a bridge we somehow save some poor beings from a collapsing universe, or even ourselves from some type of universal destruction of our own.

We have always gone out into new frontiers as our abilities opened the portal. If we reach the point where other universes are all that remain for us to venture into, what can we afford to risk? What price is too high for infinite possibility and does it matter if the price is invisible to us? Perhaps we have already destroyed countless universes without even leaving our own backyard. Regardless of whether or not technology will allow, can our limited sense of ethics ever bridge the divide between our universe and the next?

“Information is not knowledge, knowledge is not wisdom, and wisdom is not foresight.” Arthur C. Clar

“Information is not knowledge, knowledge is not wisdom, and wisdom is not foresight.” Arthur C. Clarke

If you were a one dimensional creature you would exist along a line. You would have no width, no height, just length. If a two dimensional creature came along, consisting of both length and width, and tried to interact with the one dimensional creature, the one dimensional creature would only see the length of the other fellow for it would not be possible for it to see or comprehend its width.

If the two dimensional creature were to run into a three dimensional creature it would see and comprehend only those things about the 3 dimensional creature that existed within its 2 dimensional space. The classic example is a round globe or sphere would appear as a circle to a 2 dimensional observer, as the observer would not be able to peer into the 3rd dimension to see the sphere in its complete form, it would only see horizontal slices, appearing as circles, through the sphere based on its understanding and ability or short-comings (depending on your point of view) on how it perceives and comprehends its world.

If we, as 3 dimensional creatures, were to interact with a creature that existed in 4 dimensions, say a creature that was independent of time, that creature would exist to us only for the briefest of moments as that creature flashed though, or chose to exist in our current instant. If the creature were truly a creature living independently of time or fully able to embrace time, again depending on your point of view, with all of time to wander through how often do you think we would run into such a creature? To us, unable to comprehend or see its movements through time, its existence to us may appear only as long as the briefest of flashes, no more than a passing moment.

M-Theory at the cutting edge of describing how our universe is structured suggests that there are 11 dimensions. So far we are able to comprehend, other than in mathematical equations, only a few of them.

If I may stretch an analogy, employees are multi-dimensional creatures as well. Organizations will have a tendency to see employees to comprehend them only on the dimensions upon which they interact, namely with limited exceptions, the work environment or even more limited the slice of the work environment in which the individual employee functions. What richness are we missing, what are we overlooking by not being able to see or comprehend employees in all the dimensions in which they exist or could exist? When we try to see employees as they exist outside of the organizational experience, is it truly possible to comprehend what you are seeing or perhaps not seeing?

When you create dimensions in PerformancePoint Server you have an option to create a dimension from a csv file.

This sounds like a great way to kick start your dimensions because you can take a csv file with data and upload it to create a dimension and have it populated with some data.

Great idea, but only if you know the format of the csv file.
The first 2 rows are header records that must be there to define the dimension and hierarchy before you list the column headers.

See the screen shot below.

If you have data, go ahead and add it in, so you create the dimension you can also have it import your data to give you a head start.
