I’ve been meaning to blog about the good work we did at last month’s Project Homeless Connect for a while, but “stuff” keeps coming up.

Some of you have had the chance to participate in one of these days, but if you haven’t yet done so, it’s a great way to connect in a positive way with some of the less fortunate people who live in San Francisco. Whatever your opinion about the best long-term solution to homelessness, helping people get eyeglasses or have their blood pressure checked is a good way to spend a day.

At the event, we had about 100 volunteers from CPMC, along with about 1000 others, providing services to almost 2000 participants. Our new Mayor (Ed Lee) and the new Director of the Department of Public Health (Barbara Garcia) came by to introduce themselves and thank the team for their work.

The most popular services were lunch, groceries, free phone calls to family, eye care, ID cards, and employment help; other notable services included wheelchair repair, haircuts, and acupuncture.

My sincere thanks to everyone from CPMC (and elsewhere) who participated.
