Para tener un comparativo objetivo con respecto a los años anteriores hay que fijarse en la calificación y no tanto en el lugar del ranking. A continuación pongo los lugares y las calificaciones anteriores:

De la observación de las mediciones se desprende que nuestra mayor calificación ha sido 3.7 en el 2001 y la más baja 3.3 en 2006 y 2009 respectivamente. No hemos pasado nunca del 4. Canadá, el país mejor rankeado de América tiene 8.7 y Chile el mejor rankeado de Latinoamérica 6.7.

México ha estado estancado en mediciones, en la última década, tanto en Transparencia como en Competitividad. Las causas a mi parecer son:

No hay una estrategia nacional (integral) que abarque los tres niveles de gobierno: federación, estados y municipios, en el tema de combate a la corrupción. Ha habido muy buenos esfuerzos y avances a nivel federal y en algunos estados y municipios, pero han sido esfuerzos aislados. Si hay estrategia, ésta no se ha comunicado bien y entonces sería un grave problema de comunicación e implementación.

No se han creado los espacios de colaboración entre sectores. Tanto el sector público, como el privado y el social son los responsables del diseño e implementación de la estrategia. El sector público no es el único responsable ni encargado de mejorar los niveles de bienestar en una sociedad, sólo se tendrán resultados cuando se involucren en el esfuerzo los tres sectores.

Pensando en la solución algunas ideas serían:

• Usualmente una estrategia responde a dos preguntas: qué voy a hacer y cómo lo voy a hacer. Después de definir la estrategia hace falta implementarla. No basta con que nos pongamos de acuerdo en lo que vamos a realizar sino en verificar que eso se haga realmente.
• En este sentido el diseño de la estrategia no sólo depende de los gobernantes. El esfuerzo aislado que hay en diversos lugares del país se ha dado porque hay voluntad del gobernante en turno de darle un impulso al tema o porque ha habido una sociedad organizada demandante de que se tomen medidas. Cuando es la sociedad misma quien impulsa estos esfuerzos se da un avance más sostenido de la estrategia, pues no depende de los gobernantes ni del tiempo que están en el poder (en el caso de los municipios muy poco, tres años).
• Hay tres medidas en la estrategia y en la implementación que deben ser tomadas en cuenta: rendición de cuentas (que implica transparencia), controles y cambio de hábitos (ética).

El más relevante de los tres es el último, el trabajo en la ética del ciudadano y sus hábitos en la toma de decisiones. Y sólo se pueden cambiar estos hábitos desde dos lugares: la familia y la escuela. La estrategia debe involucrar necesariamente a la SEP, para integrar en sus programas de estudio no sólo el tema de la corrupción como tal, sino el cambio de hábitos en la toma de decisiones. En este sentido, la mayor influencia que se tiene sobre los niños y jóvenes no es la teoría, sino el ejemplo.

La rendición de cuentas es el único camino que tenemos los ciudadanos para que nuestros gobernantes sean responsables de sus actos. El primer paso en la rendición de cuentas es la transparencia. Debemos tener y pedir los mismos estándares de transparencia en todos los estados y municipios. Es aquí donde los Institutos de Transparencia como el IFAI (a nivel federal) y sus similares a nivel estatal cobran relevancia. Una prioridad entonces es la autonomía de estos institutos del ejecutivo (ya sea federal o estatal).

Los controles finalmente, son necesarios para saber que lo que estamos haciendo lo estamos haciendo bien. En este sentido, un tablero de control público, ayudaría al gobernante a cuidar sus variables más relevantes y al ciudadano a conocer el avance de las mismas.

Said moved to New York at the age of 15 where two years later he studied Communication and Media Arts at Dutchess Community College. To him, films are about “glimpses of a person’s life, a situation, or experience; that’s what makes films more powerful than having a beginning, middle, and an end.”

In 2005, Said relocated to San Francisco to pursue studies in filmmaking and directing at the Academy of Art University. He has worked in a variety of roles in the industry, most notably for Focus Features on the 2009 Oscar award-winning film Milk. He also recently completed an experimental short film, Infamy, which is a surreal experience focusing on the chaotic events of September 11th as seen from his first-hand account. The abstract film is an official selection at the 2009 Edinburgh International Film Festival.

His latest short drama MUTE, chronicles the story of a father who comes home one night to finds his autistic daughter physically abused. The film ended up winning the award of merit for short film and direction at the Accolade film awards. The film also won the German Independence Award for best foreign language short film at the prestigious Oldenburg Film Festival in Germany.

Said currently lives in San Francisco, producing and directing creative projects.

Além dos óculos 3d, das projeções interativas , das animações 3d, e do 3d interativo em realtime, tenho desenvolvido outros projetos especiais em multimídia.

Este fim de semana, por exemplo, estou terminando um sistema com uso de webcam para gravar depoimentos em formato de vídeo. Estou usando o Adobe Director e um activex . Funciona da seguinte forma: trata-se de uma tela de toque com webcam embutida e uma opção para ativar a webcam e gravar um depoimento em video que fica armazenado no disco local podendo ser reproduzido a qualquer momento selecionando-se o video a ser reproduzido entre as dezenas ou centenas que são exibidos em uma lista através de miniaturas das imagens.

Em um evento , ponto de venda ou feira, pode-se instalar este “totem” multimidia que além de mostrar diversas informações relacionadas ao produto ou evento pode também colher depoimentos em vídeo dos partipanpantes que podem dar sugestões ou deixar registrada a sua presença. Estes vídeos poderão ser colocados online ou usados de diversas formas.

Em uma festa pode-se usar o sistema para que os convidados deixem registrado a sua presença ou seus depoimentos.

“The lion and the calf shall lie down together but the calf won’t get much sleep.”

this weekend I made a TO DO OR DIE LIST to keep me on track (and yet I’m still blogging. good grief) because I have more things to do than I can get done this weekend and not entirely because of procrastination. It’s more like I can’t always concentrate well enough to get things done in my house.

I am being set up for success: the only other woman in the house is Lala (who is now a new auntie as of yesterday and will now be Tante Lala or Aunt Lolly or any other disgusting name to make her cringe), I’m off school and therefore off “Still” for a little bit, Jared is up in Monterey with his tribe–and in short, there is no one around to distract me.

One of the top priorities on the TO DO OR DIE was to finish the script break down, and I did. But now that we have had to make rewrites (thanks Kyle for obliging) I need to print out the new script and write my note down on it. For breakdowns, you want to decide what the characters are trying to do with their actions and words. This line, you’re trying to make her angry. This arm movement, you are trying to comfort her. This look, you are letting her know you’re conflicted. But in scenes like the opening page where the birth and clean bedroom are intercut, you are supposed to delineate what each cut is trying to achieve within the audience. Kyle wrote some pretty good parallelism into this scene that I’m sure is bound to confuse everyone but by the end of the bathroom scene (9), you should be piecing together that something went horribly wrong. This at least is my hope.

But now it’s done and I’m back to focusing on my Kurasawa papers. After Monday I can go back and fine tune the break down. For now, a break.

MBA ranking 2009

Dos escuelas, London Business School y Wharton School comparten el primer puesto del ranking de los mejores MBA Full Time elaborado por Financial Times.
Como viene siendo habitual en los últimos años, los MBAs españoles quedan bien posicionados en el ranking, con el IE, el IESE y ESADE en Nº 20:

Los rankings son un referente fundamental en el sector de las escuelas de negocio, dentro del sector formación, aunque hay que tener en cuenta que cada ranking puntúa en función de unos parámetros, en este caso 20, 3 de ellos hacen referencia al salario y la contratación tras el MBA y suponen un 40% del total de la valoración en 2009, pero hay muchos otros como el coste de oportunidad (muy subjetivo y en este caso IESE por ser algo más largo se ve perjudicado), número de alumnos femeninos (no tengo claro hasta que punto es relevante), satisfacción de los alumnos evidentemente subjetivo), idiomas (perjudica a los de habla inglesa que solo se imparten en inglés), investigación….

En fin, que los parámetros utilizados por Financial Times no tienen porque coincidir con los que puedan influir más en nuestra decisión, pero desde luego los rankings tienen importancia en el sector y el de Financial Times es uno de los más reconocidos.

As the Director of the Manchester MBA I’d like to welcome you to this blog.  I hope this blog site will provide you with an insight to the MBA here in Manchester and give our MBAs an opportunity to tell the readers about the highs and lows of MBA life at Manchester Business School.

I took on this role in September and a key motivator for me was the fact that it was the MANCHESTER MBA, this city has a very special place in my heart, I’ve left on a number of occasions but have been drawn back to this amazing place which has an energy that, I believe, makes it unique.

To live in a city is to embrace change, cities are constantly evolving, the cityscape grows ever upwards and outwards, the demographic changes and the vibe moves in different directions.  Manchester particularly is a city that continues to thrive and constantly reinvent itself.  It was founded in Roman times (we now use the Roman amphitheatre as an open area concert venue), during the industrial revolution the city became the international centre of cotton trade (affectionately known as “Cottonopolis”) whilst moving to the 21^st Century we’ve become known as the creative capital of the UK with a Media City being developed in the heart of our historic docklands (yes we have docklands – 1894 saw the opening of the Manchester Ship Canal which brought ocean going ships into the Port of Manchester).

Like the city, Manchester Business School’s MBA continues to evolve and changing.  We do have that long history, being one of the first two Business Schools in the UK offering MBA degrees yet we’re very different from those original origins.  For example, this morning I’ve been meeting with some of our first year students getting an update on their first client facing consultancy projects. The MBS MBA employs ‘The Manchester Method’, putting theory into practice by working with real clients from the very start of the programme.  So one of my meetings this morning was with Adel Alrashidi from Kuwait, Kate Son from Korea and Carols de La Cruz from Mexico who are part of an international MBA team working with their first client, Henshaw’s Society for Blind People as part of their Business in the Community project.  Henshaw’s is one of Manchester’s oldest charities (170 years old) which delivers a range of services to over 5000 blind and visually impaired service users.  With a turnover in the region of £10m and 350 staff this is a significant business and the MBA team are working with them to develop their business strategy into 2010.  I was extremely impressed to hear how quickly the MBA team had taken the theories they are learning in the lecture theatre and have started applying them in practice – so well done to Team Henshaw!

Multimedia interaktif tidak dapat dipisahkan dalam dunia pendidikan saat sekarang ini. Multimedia interaktif telah menjadi komponen penting yang tak terpisahkan. Banyak aplikasi yang dapat digunakan untuk merancang multimedia interaktif. Sebut saja Flash, Director, Powerpoint dan lainnya…

Semua aplikasi yang digunakan untuk membuat multimedia interaktif mempunyai kelebihan dan kekurangan masing-masing. Saat ini saya menggunakan Macromedia Flash versi 8 dalam merancang multimedia interaktif. Sebelum migrasi ke Macromedia Flash saya lebih familiar menggunakan Macromedia Director versi MX. Banyak hal dan kemudahan yang ditawarkan oleh Director. Tapi salah satu kelemahan yang saya rasakan adalah saat animasi flash yang diimport ke director mengalami penurunan kualitas animasi. Selain itu animasi yang saya rasakan pada Macromedia Director juga kurang yang pada akhirnya saya harus mendesain animasi terlebih dahulu sebelum saya import ke director.

It’s November and that means it’s casting season.

It’s a time of immense frustration, confusion, learning and apologizing.

I attended callbacks with Karyn, but Kyle did not come with me. After an awkward phone conversation, we felt it was best that he did not tag along, but I still wanted him very much to watch the tapes. Because the crew seems to think that I rely too heavily upon Kyle’s opinion, I’ve been forced to as Lisa put it “divorce” him. I wasn’t comfortable with that in my heart, and I knew it. I just wish I had not waited until his disgruntled phone call to admit it. I still want Kyle to be a part of this process. He deserves to be. Even though having to relate to him can be hard, I feel grounded when I do. I can hang up with him, knead at the headache lurking behind my brows and say to myself, “thank God there is someone else in this for something other than the grade or the reel material.” Having a relationship with the writer is like having a friend, mentor, brother, consultant, client and partner all in one and needs just as much maintenance.

And what I saw at callbacks was somewhat satisfactory. I found what I believe to be our Dessie and midwife and at  the time, even a Jamie. But watching the tapes with Karyn, Ricky and Kyle, it became clear to me that we needed to continue the search for our lead male as well as the doula. I loved sneaking peaks at Ricky and Kyle’s faces to see how they reacted to what they were seeing. THe next day Karyn and I sat down with Lisa to watch the tapes and received more negative feedback. She wasn’t truly impressed with anyone, not even with our favored Dessie candidate and told us that she had worked with our favored Midwife before and was not happy with the results. So not only are we going to do more casting for Jamie but we need to call back a bunch of Dessies that couldn’t make it to last weekend’s callbacks AND find a new midwife as well as a doula.

But my philosophy is this: do not settle.

I will find the perfect people for this film. So much depends on them being phenomenal.

It is noon when Christine Hakim makes an entrance on the staircase of a hotel on Bali Island. The weather is balmy and the air has a faint smell of salt. Hakim wears a batik shirt with a cloud pattern and a jade-green lizard-skin tote bag slung over her shoulder. Her signature streak of green hair is barely noticeable when pulled tightly back.
Hakim runs into Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, who has just addressed a conference, at the reception desk.
The press immediately swarm around them. “Mbak Christine!” the photographers and journalists call out.
Hakim answers questions with good humor and the poise that comes from being in the public eye for more than three decades.
“There is still no one in the film industry who can rival her,” whispers a journalist.

Since Hakim launched her acting career in Teguh Karya’s “Cinta Pertama” (First Love) in 1973, barely an unkind word has been written about her in the media.
It is not hard to see why. “As I age, my maternal side develops. I treat them like they are my children, even the older journalists,” Hakim says. “I jest with them, pretending to be difficult. They in turn try to coax me, as a child would coax their mother for a treat, to give them an interview,” she adds with a wink.
After the press conference, Hakim heads for the airport. The appearance of her very famous face — the vermilion lips, the warm eyes under darkened lashes, the beauty spot — causes many people to do a double take.
Besides being a screen icon, Hakim was the first Indonesian to be invited to sit on the jury of the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival and she also graced the cover of TIME magazine as one of their Asian heroes of 2004 for her contributions to film and society. Yet it is with a deep sigh that she sums up her life in the limelight in one word: “heavy.”
“It was my never my intention to end up this way. I just wanted to be a good person,” she says, referring to her humanitarian work.
“These are the consequences of the decisions I have made throughout my life. So I have to be consistent with my choices,” Hakim says. “In a way it is a moral burden — if I choose to let go of my commitments — because at times they involve the livelihoods of others.”
Hakim’s compassion for others and her nationalism are evident in the roles she has chosen to play in films such as “Daun Di Atas Bantal” (Leaf on a Pillow), about the lives of street children; “Serambi” (Verandah), about the aftermath of the tsunami in Aceh; and “Cut Nyak Dhien,” about an Acehnese freedom fighter.
Hakim is also an advocate for public education and children’s welfare. “If I can help someone who is in need — and release them from their troubles — that is what makes me smile,” she says. “When I am in trouble and help comes my way, it is an incredible feeling. Because I have felt that, I want others to feel the same.”
In 2008, Hakim was appointed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, or Unesco, to be a Goodwill Ambassador for Teacher Education in Southeast Asia.
Her own foundation, The Christine Hakim Foundation, provides nutrition for malnourished children in West Java Province. “We [as public figures] do not always have to contribute to the community, but perhaps I want to give meaning to my own life. I feel if I do things only for myself then my life is less meaningful. But if my life can give meaning to others, then it has more purpose.”
A friend decides to fly back to Jakarta with Hakim and takes the last available seat — in economy. Without a second thought, Hakim gives up her business-class seat to her friend.
“I much prefer sitting in the back of the plane,” she says, waiting patiently for the crowded line to move forward. “Besides, it is the safest place in case of a crash.”
At lunchtime, Hakim takes out a brown paper package of rice from her favorite street stall in Bali. She politely refuses a stewardess’s offer of utensils.
Her down-to-earth attitude — sitting in economy, eating rice with her hands — appears to puzzle the other passengers, who watch her constantly. “Acting is a profession, just like any other. Life does not only encompass acting,” Hakim says. “The gist of life is not there [in film] but comes back to my existence as a human being. There is no difference between one person and another. We all have pluses and minuses. I do not feel I am better than anyone else.”
Arriving at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta airport, Hakim sails through immigration, past a sea of officials’ smiles. “The kindness of others makes my life easier, but it has also become a burden for me. People are nice to me because they appreciate, respect and believe in me. In that sense, I have to tread carefully so as to not disappoint anyone.”
The arrival hall is almost empty — aside from a film crew on break. Their camera and sound rigs are strewn around the area. Hakim recognizes a few of the crew members and stops to chat. They discuss a movie that is currently in production in Jakarta. The verdict is not good. Hakim shakes her head sadly.
“That film has been rife with problems from the start,” she says.
Once in her car, Hakim sinks back into her seat, clearly travel-weary. “On three occasions I wanted to stop making films” she discloses, pausing for thought. “But my soul is in film. As humans, we all have a calling. We all have our own duties to fulfill — of that I am convinced. Whenever I face a major predicament, in other aspects of my life positive things, such as recognition for my work, appear. So how can I stop?”
These awards symbolize people’s hopes and appreciation — their support. And so I continue,” Hakim says.
Back at her office in South Jakarta, Hakim rolls out a mat and begins to pray. The soft recitation of bismillah — in the name of Allah — resonates throughout the room. After praying , she changes into a boldly patterned top and a ruby-red Spanish-style tiered skirt.
Hakim says she does not find it hard to be a woman working in a patriarchal culture.
“I do not want to be a man. My femininity has become my strength. It sets me apart from men. It is an asset,” she says.
“In life, you have to be able to be tender and hard. I can be hard, believe it or not,” she says.
Darkness hangs over the capital as Hakim makes her way to a gallery opening, where she is guest of honor.
“In the end, it is my life,” she says. “But when people already respect and believe in me, they only want to see me as that person [they see onscreen]. They need to understand that I am also human and can also make mistakes. “
She reaches her destination and glides out of the car with a grand smile for the wall of photographers who greet her. Then Christine Hakim disappears into the throng.

Las oportunidades que abre un MBA en Brasil

La elección de Río de Janeiro como sede de los Juegos Olímpicos del 2016 fue solo un paso más dentro del largo camino de Brasil por convertirse en una potencia global, ya que según el Banco Mundial ya es la octava mayor economía del planeta. Pero no solo eso: mientras la mayoría de los países cerrarán el año con números rojos, Brasil espera concluir el 2009 con un crecimiento del 1,2%. Y si quiere entender como funciona este nuevo gigante, asistir a una escuela de negocios en el país puede ser un buen punto de partida.

“Hoy Brasil es la mayor economía en América Latina, y este solo hecho ya es suficiente para venir a interiorizarse y comprender la dinámica de nuestra economía”, postula Thomas Brull, director de MBA de la Business School São Paulo (BSP). De hecho Brasil, junto a Rusia, la India y China, forman el denominado BRIC, el grupo de las cuatro mayores y más pujantes economías emergentes. “También hay otras buenas razones para realizar un posgrado acá, especialmente para entender los aspectos culturales: el estilo de vida brasileño, cómo hacemos los negocios y cómo nos relacionamos entre nosotros. Y ese es justamente uno de los factores que más conlleva a errores: que los ejecutivos no entiendan los valores y la cultura local”, afirma Brull.

De igual forma, Larissa Dal Piva, encargada de Relaciones Internacionales de la Estação Business School de Curitiba, agrega que las barreras de entrada que enfrentan los extranjeros en el mercado brasileño “van desde las diferencias entre los idiomas, a la posición en el entorno empresarial, incluyendo la cultura del jeitinho o jeito brasileño (una forma de eludir las normas y convenciones sociales para beneficio personal, principalmente para agilizar trámites)”, precisa la académica.

Para hacer frente a la barrera idiomática, Thomas Brull sostiene que “en la BSP somos pioneros en dictar un programa de Executive MBA en inglés, que permite la inclusión de estudiantes  MBA de todos los rincones del mundo. Otro incentivo que ofrecemos es el hecho de estudiar en São Paulo, el corazón económico de Brasil y una gran metrópolis cosmopolita“. La escuela también ofrece programas de MBA en portugués para quienes quieran aprender a dominarlo, un requisito básico para desenvolverse en el mercado brasileño.

Otra gran oportunidad que ofrecen las business schools locales a los ejecutivos es el networking. Dal Piva sostiene que “los cursos de educación ejecutiva y de posgrado pueden entregar a los estudiantes latinoamericanos experiencia práctica de las empresas nacionales y regionales de Brasil. También permiten multiplicar la red de contactos con los ejecutivos locales y llevar a cabo una evaluación comparativa del trabajo en las empresas brasileñas”.

En esa misma línea, Brull reconoce que “los brasileños somos locuaces y extrovertidos; nos gusta mucho conversar e interactuar. También estamos muy orientados hacia la tecnología, somos grandes usuarios de las redes sociales, como Orkut y Facebook. Hay que tomar en cuenta que la importancia del networking viene de la mano con la cantidad de usuarios: entre más población, mayor potencial de networking”. Y Brasil tiene 191 millones de habitantes.

Sin embargo, aún son pocos los ejecutivos que han tomado esta opción. “Los estudiantes latinoamericanos no-brasileños aun no representan un número significativo dentro de las escuelas de negocios locales. Pero no por eso dejan de ser un segmento de mercado atractivo”, afirma Dal Piva. Por su parte, Brull señala que “es importante para nosotros contar con estudiantes latinoamericanos, ya sea del Mercosur, los países andinos y por supuesto México. Las compañías brasileñas se están transformando en multinacionales y cada vez tienen mayor presencia en los países vecinos”.

Un ejemplo los esfuerzos de Brasil por ofrecer una educación vinculada con el vecindario es la construcción de la Universidad de Integración Latinoamericana (Unila), institución que estará ubicada en Foz de Iguazú, en la Triple Frontera con Paraguay y Argentina. Este centro dictará cursos tanto en español como en portugués. Por parte de la BSP, Thomas Brull adelanta que “estamos buscando la forma de atraer más estudiantes de otros países latinoamericanos. También estamos conversando con otras escuelas de la región para ofrecer un MBA Latinoamericano”, adelanta el directivo.

Here is the team behind the making of Planet 51, which I heard took 8 years to make!

A lot of work was put into this movie and I’ll be looking for video’s on how they did it.
