Author: Otis Cooper Source: articleage.com Copyright 2006 Otis Cooper The CD was first introduced in

Author: Otis Cooper
Source: articleage.com

Copyright 2006 Otis Cooper

The CD was first introduced into the world by Phillips and the Sony corporation and was to replace the LP.It started rather badly butin 1995 there was a standard being set for the dvd

Cdrom have been around awhile, but as the world grows,so do technology. And we have ended up with a much bigger format called the DVD which stands for Digital Versatile Disk.

This is a high capacity cd size disc basically for multimedia applications. This high quality video and audio format may replace the VHS altogether.

The DVD started as the Digital Video Disc and some technicians may still refer the the disk with this name.DVD discs offer much higher capacity than CDs for high quality video, audio and software

The new DVD use the same format as the CDROM . Cdroms are great formats for recording data but the DVD is best for recording large applications like movies. And they are fast becoming the best choice for storage and computer backup.

The DVD for store up to 17.1 gigabytes of data whereas the cdrom can store up to 700 megabytes.Thats quiet a difference in storage space.

THE TYPES OF DVD DRIVES

Early DVD drives were all dvd-rw compatible made by the dvd forum,a group of manufacturers that started the dvd format together.

The first DVD+RW drives had no capability to write -once DVD media. However,in 2002 Verbatim became the first media maker to offer DVD+RW technology in both the ReWritable and Write-once formats, alright already.

Around In October 2003, Philips and Mitsubishi displayed the new dual-layer DVD recordable technology. The new technology virtually doubles data storage capacity on DVD+R recordable discs from 4.7GB to 8.5GB, while remaining compatible with existing DVD Video players and DVD-ROM drives.

DVD Multi-compliant drives, provide read/write support for all DVD recordable DVD specifications with theDVD-RAM, DVD-R and DVD-RW as well as read/write support for CD-R and CD-RW media.

When the dvd format started there were different versions and there was no guarantee that your recording from one dvd writer would play on another player.

To add to the versions, the DVD-RAM lets you erase specific files and add new ones. You could also write to the dvd up to 1000,000 times became any data degration may occur.

The dvd-rw will only allow you to write to the disk just 1,000 times before data degradation. And the new DVD-Audio format was developed for music and other audio files.

Talk about mass confusion concerning the dvd. While you may not be concerned at all about the technical side of the dvd,it may be to your advantage to learn the basics.Be sure your dvd player and writer will support all format of the dvd.

FEATURES OF THE DIGITAL VERSATILE DISC

The DVD has the same physical dimemsions as the compact disc but is made slightly different. Most DVD hardware will play audio CDs and CDROMs

All formats of the dvd use a common file system named UDF.The DVD come in both recordable and re-writable versions.Let’s briefly mention the different formats of the .

The ROM has the read-only format supporting discs with capacities of from 4.7GB to 17GB and access rates of 600 KBps to 1.3 MBps. Backward- compatible with CD-ROMs.

Video is used for displaying full-length digital movies. -Video players televisions like videocassette players. The Digital-Video format includes a Content Scrambling System (CSS) to prevent users from copying discs.

The audio store audio similar to the CD-Audio format. -Audio is facing stiff competition from a number of other high fidelity audio standards.

The Recordable Disc use the write-once format. -R discs are the counterpart to CD-R discs.

The RAM use a rewritable compact disc format that provides much greater data storage than today’s CD-RW systems. The caddy-mounted discs will initially provide 2.6GB per side on single or double-sided discs.

is the new generation of optical disc storage technology. This is bigger and faster than the CD. aims to encompass home entertainment, computers, and business information with a single digital format.

It has replaced laserdisc, is well on the way to replacing videotape and video game cartridges, and could eventually replace audio CD and CD-ROM. And now the has widespread support from all major electronics companies.

Happy week before Thanksgiving! As always, I go through a period of not buying any new music for a w

Happy week before Thanksgiving! As always, I go through a period of not buying any new music for a while, then splurge all at once. My last post was about the great debut from Them Crooked Vultures, which I would probably give 3.5 out of 5 stars to, at least according to the Tfronky Rating System. While at ZIA Records off the I17 Freeway and Thunderbird on Wednesday I found some used stuff I wanted, including the new Flaming Lips disc Embryonic, and found the latest Echo and the Bunnymen disc The Fountain new.

Flaming Lips – Embryonic – 1 star
It pains me to write that, because I really do like this band. The Soft Bulletin was incredible, and Do You Realize is one of my all-time favorite tracks. I will have that song played at my funeral. But Embryonic is 18 songs of pure noise that if I did drugs at all still would not improve the quality of listening to this album. I may play frisbee with this.

Echo and the Bunnymen – The Fountain – 3 stars
A wonderful, plesant surprise. Echo is my all-time favorite band, and this album may keep them there for a while. I have been really disappointed in this band since 3/4 of the original line-up reunited in 1997. The four albums they have released since then have been, in my opinion, sub-par at best. Well, The Fountain may not be Ocean Rain or Porcupine, but I think it is the band’s best work since 1987’s self-titled fifth album, the last with the original line-up.

The Fountain is actually an album that sounds very similar to Echo and the Bunnymen, particularly to the lead track from that album The Game. Ian McCulloch and Will Sergeant are the surviving original members, and although Ian’s voice sounds a bit strained today and Will’s guitar work is not what is was during the band’s prime, the ten songs on this disc are welcome additions to the Bunnymen’s catalog. The Fountain is simply classic, mid-tempo Britpop, done Bunnymen style with plenty of Ian’s witty lyrics and Will’s guitar hooks.

Needless to say I am excited, it is great to hear the Echo I fell in love with over twenty years ago. I have not seen them since 1988, here is to that changing in 2010!

Cheers!
Frank

Best price glasses have an assortment of charming and elegant glasses frames for your kids. Kids’ eyeglasses come in a variety of cool styles and kid-friendly colors. If your child desires a pair of eyeglasses, you should know what to look for before you start shopping. Check out the exclusive series of children’s glasses that includes kid’s eyeglasses, sunglasses, and glasses frames along with stunning colors like gold, pink and purple. Be clear in your mind to permit your child to help in selecting the new eyeglasses, as the more he or she likes the eyeglasses, the more he or she will enjoy wearing them. Following are the top six things to keep in mind when picking out eyeglasses for kids.

Lens tints are not generally recommended for kids’ eyeglasses because the lenses may be too dark indoors and not dark enough outdoors .Spring hinges applied to kids’ eyeglasses allow the frame’s temple to bend outward when putting glasses on or taking them off. Most kids’ eyeglasses are made of polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is an impact-resistant material that is also used in safety lenses. These special lenses do not shatter on impact like glass or regular plastic lenses, reducing the chance of eye injuries in active kids.

Polycarbonate is also thinner and lighter in weight than regular plastic lenses, giving the eyeglasses a better cosmetic appearance and more comfort for the kid wearing them. Polycarbonate lenses also have an added bonus: built-in ultraviolet sun protection. All of our glasses come with 1.56 indexes thin and light lens, UV400 treatment and Scratch Resistant Coating. Glasses for toddler as well as teenage kids are available at cheap prices. Children’s glasses need to be extra strong and sturdy due to their active life style; Most of our children’s frame are made of titanium or bendable material. We strongly recommend polycarbonate lens for your kids due to safety reason. Once the order is completed, a beautiful pair of prescription glasses will arrive at your door step in 1-2 weeks.

I know, I know. I’m very late on this post, but a rather particular condition made it kind of difficult to a) get my paws on the actual album, and b) get to listen to it attentively and write up this little blurb.

Every time I hear it, I go nuts. “There’s a new Slayer album out!” What? ANOTHER ONE? Not that I’d like those excellent records to be fewer and further and between, but every time, I’m surprise that those… let’s call them veterans, have been composing more stuff. This is the 11th studio album for Slayer. ELEVEN. You’ve churned out just under a dozen albums over the course of almost 30 years, you’ve won two Grammys, conquered millions of fan worldwide and you’re still rocking it out, pumping out tracks that never seem to lose their charm. You’ve got to give it to those guys, they are one bunch of passionate fellows.

This years release had much to live up to. Following up Christ Illusion, an album which was critically acclaimed by just about everybody out there is by no means a simple task, yet they pull it off beautifully. With every new album comes the fear that the band will grow old, and will release a total piece of garbage that will kill them off, and up to now, except for the slight disappointment that was Undisputed Attitude, my fears haven’t become reality.

You have to admit that the single for Hate Worldwide, the only single which I had the luck to stumble upon, was very promising. Fast paced, aggressive, with shredding solos, blasting drums, everything you’d expect from Slayer, it had. Well after listening to World Painted Blood two times from “cover to cover” in addition to the odd song pick, I can without a doubt confirm that this is truly a Slayer album worthy of it’s authors.

By the sounds of it, I have no trouble imaging that some fans might think of this album as simply an extension of Christ Illusion. Maybe it’s the order of the tracks, but the album kind of had this same feel as the previous. Everybody seems to agree that the 2006 album definitely had a new sound, this little special something that made it different enough compared to God Hates Us All, and in a way I think that the new record follows the trend that Christ Illusion set.

Is it merely a sequel? I don’t think I’m enough of either a musician or a fan to go through the details of the question. Is it good? Certainly. Is it worth buying? Absolutely. Probably the best 10$ you’ll spend on a thrash metal album this year.

Here’s my personal favorite, Snuff. Enjoy!

What led them to this choice, as all four studios stated separately, is better performance for the price and copyright protection.
The other standard in competition, the Blu-ray disc, unconditionally backed, dvd, by Sony Pictures Entertainment, is also counting on support from Metro Goldwyn Mayer and Twentieth Century Fox (the latter, dvd, has recently joined the Blu-Ray Disc Association Board).
The Blu-ray disc has more world leading electronics companies that support it: Sony, LG Electronics, Matsushita (Panasonic), Mitsubishi, Samsung, Sharp, TDK, Philips, Pioneer, Hitachi. Also, computer giants Dell and Hewlett Packard.
The HD DVD standard is being, dvd, developed by Toshiba, Sanyo and NEC, under the endorsement of the DVD Forum.
Both HD DVD and Blu-ray standards use the same wavelength blue-lasers that permit data storage on the disc at a higher density. This enhances the disc capacity and allows the recording of high definition video, dvd, on DVD support.
Wining the support of the big Hollywood movie studios is most important in the DVD format battle. Up to this moment, the four studios that gave their endorsement to HD DVD technology represent 45% of the DVD pre-recorded movie market.
The launch of DVD players in the HD DVD format is being expected for the last quarter of 2005.

Trading sunglasses is more than just a style statement. Protection from harmful ultraviolet (UV) light is essential to prevent possible damage to the lens or retina of the eye. There is an ever-increasing scientific apprehension at the enlarging size of the ozone hole and the lessening of the ozone layer. The suns UV light, without this protective filter now exposes us all to greater risk. A tint alone on a pair of spectacles will not block UV rays. All it will do is put your eyes in the shade allowing your pupils to dilate more and let in more available light which equals more damaging UV rays. Tints work by filtering light and each tint filters light differently. Light to medium shades are good for daily wear. For bright conditions and outdoor sports, darker shades are more appropriate. A tint alone only helps in reducing glare and improving visibility.

Tints are helpful in enhancing contrast, reducing glare, reflecting bright light or improving visibility on hazy or overcast days. Sodium Yellow provides excellent contrast and depth perception in low intensity light. This is a great tint for skiers and shooter on overcast days.Grey is a neutral, general-purpose tint, popular with golfers, cyclists and runners. Grey does not enhance contrast. Brown provides good contrast in hazy sunshine. Brown is also suitable for anglers, sailors, skiers and in other sports where there is high-glare. Green is a neutral, general-purpose tint that provides some contrast in low light and can help reduce eyestrain under bright lights. It can soften harsh bright light to relieve eye strain, meanwhile still give you 20/20 visions.

You can also specify the percentage of darkness; just enter that percentage in the order comment field. The available tints are straight or graduated. All of our lenses come with UV400 and scratch resistant coating at no extra cost. Different type of lens and prescription might result in slightly different darkness even their percentage is the same.

1st”Black rain from the bombing”、2nd”The Sentinel”、EP”The legion of dynamic dischord”につづいてようやくリリースされたAerialの3rdアルバム。

Well, my 3D craft workshop went down very well with the MENCAP group on Monday and we were able to make a veritable army of ‘tatty tinsel fairy’ clones – 19 in all. Everybody was really proud of themselves and what they had produced and were very excited that they were going to be able to put their creation in the ‘place of honour’ – on top of the Christmas tree at Christmas time. There was a lot of laughter and more than a bit of chaos as fairy heads rolled onto the floor – and floaty skirts wouldn’t lay straight – but we got there eventually!

This photo shows the first batch that we made jostling for table space with their wide skirts!

So – another challenge is in store for them all next Monday! We are going to make ‘Flickering Candle’ table decorations. Last year I had thought about making something based on a candle with the group – but I couldn’t think of a way to make them look exciting without the risk of people trying to light the candle – with the obvious health and safety implications.

This year I got it sorted! My son bought himself some tea-light candles from the place where he does week-end work. But they were candles with a difference! They were LED imitation candles…battery operated…and turned on and off with a switch on the base! They were so neat! Exactly the same size as a normal tea-light candle but battery operated! I was sorted!

So – I began to work out how to do it. It is all based on old and out of date or damaged DVDs, CDs and computer discs onto which I have mounted – with my trusty glue gun – a thin card tube just slightly smaller than the tea-light candle. I then designed a holly pattern border and printed it out onto sheets of thin card which were then cut to size so that they were able to wrap fairly snugly round the candle, and these were then glued to make tubes. These can then be slipped over the tube stuck to the disc and when the tea-light is inserted into the top the smaller tube on the inside prevents the candle from slipping down into the printed tube! I hope you got all that!! So this allows the tea-light to be lifted out in order to turn the switch on the base on and off.

I have been out for walks in the woods collecting fallen pine cones which I have sprayed with gold spray paint and have rediscovered tinsel from last year’s decorations – as well as some wire-edged tartan ribbon and some gold ribbon rosettes. And I have been able to find in the local Pound Shop (Dollar Store) fabric poinsettia flowers, christmas tree coloured garlands and mini gold baubles! I have inserted wire into all of these decorations so that all the members of the group need to do is wire the different decorations onto a piece of the deep green garland and when everything is secure, bend the garland into a tight circle and attach it to the disc with double-sided sticky tape so that the candle protrudes through he middle of it!

It is all so simple but that collection of odds and ends and woodland litter turns into this delightful little table centre!

I think they will all be thrilled to make this and I am sure those candles will be flashing on and off all through Monday morning – accompanied by much laughter and chatter!

My! These Monday mornings are hard work – but so rewarding!

My last design for this year will be for Monday November 30th….and that still needs a bit of developing…but I’ll give you a sneak peek sometime next week!

Materials 1:

Metal Glasses

Metal has been a popular choice for eyeglass frame material, including stainless steel and aluminum alloy. In general, these types of material are sturdy and lightweight. Molded into different styles and colors, metal eyeglasses present a brilliant modern look, which are more durable than standard stainless steel frames as well.

Titanium frames are extremely lightweight, durable and hypoallergenic. Titanium is easy to color, resulting in a polished, modern look. Titanium frames are the perfect frames for active lifestyles or heavy prescriptions.

Flexon

Flexon is a unique and popular material that can revert to original state if damaged so rightly called “Memory Metal”. The transition temperature of the material is at or below freezing, so Flexon comes back into shape in almost any operating environment. It doesn’t corrode and is lightweight and hypoallergenic.

Beryllium

It is a steel-gray metal that serves as a lower-cost alternative to titanium eyeglasses. Beryllium is an excellent choice for wearers who have high skin acidity or spend a good amount of time in or around salt water due to its inherent corrosion and tarnish resisting properties.

Aluminum

Primarily high-end eyewear designers because of the unique look it creates use aluminum. The eyeglasses produced are weight-less and yet highly corrosion resistant.

Ticral

An alloy of titanium, copper and chrome. Its feather-weight offers many of the features of titanium without the high cost. Ticral is also strong, durable and available in a variety of colors.

Monel

This material, a mixture of a board range of metals is the most widely used material in the manufacture of eyeglasses frames. It is malleable and corrosion-resistant especially if the right kind of plating, such as palladium or other nickel-free options are used.

If you’re unfamiliar with MD5 checksums (or MD5sums for short), they are simply a string of nu

If you’re unfamiliar with MD5 checksums (or MD5sums for short), they are simply a string of numbers (“hashes“) generated when each file is scanned, to be used to later verify the integrity of the data. You may have noted when downloading Linux .iso images or similar that there either was a text file with it – usually with the same suffix as the main file, but with perhaps an .md5sums extension – or the actual hash below the download link.

Also, you probably know you can check your Ubuntu CD for defects while at the boot menu, but since that just looks to an md5sum.txt file (most common name on Linux live CDs), you can also do so in Ubuntu via the terminal. So, for example, if you’ve burned a copy of the latest Ubuntu (or other Linux distro) live CD for a friend, you can simply open a terminal and check it without having to reboot.

But the most important use of the md5sum command is to create data verification for folders on your drive, as well as data CDs and DVDs, and even video DVDs. If you just wanted to periodically make sure no files are corrupt in a given folder (or whole drive if you want), this is the way to go. If you have a whole bunch of things in a folder you want to burn to a data disc, then the checksum file you create will let you check the disc for defects.

•∞∞∞θθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθ∞∞∞•

So when you want to create the checksums, open a terminal in that folder and enter the following:

find -type f -exec md5sum “{}” \; > md5sum.txt

Note that this will also create a hash for the file itself, ie: md5sum.txt, which will produce an error when checked, since it was generated while the file was still being created:

md5sum: WARNING: 1 of 103 computed checksums did NOT match

When you scroll up the terminal to see the cause of the error, you’ll find:

./md5sum.txt: FAILED

You will need to manually edit out the line for md5sum.txt, and if the file is really large, just hit Ctrl+F and search for md5, and it will take you to the line you need to delete.

Once that’s done, you can verify the folder/drive any time you wish. With discs, it isn’t limited to data, or rather since the .vob files etc of a DVD are data, you can generate the md5sum.txt in the parent folder of the title (ie: the one VIDEO_TS resides in) and check movies as well as data backups.

•∞∞∞θθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθ∞∞∞•

To check a folder, open a terminal there and enter:

md5sum -c md5sum.txt

To check a disc that has that file, including the likes of the Ubuntu CD, you’ll need the terminal pointing at the disc. But rather than open a folder window and choose Open in Terminal from the context menu, you can do that via any open terminal and incorporate the checking command above with:

cd /media/cdrom0 && md5sum -c md5sum.txt

Occasionally systems don’t have cdrom0 as the device name for the disc drive, so when you open a terminal there the other way, make note of the device name and alter the last command accordingly.

•∞∞∞θθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθ∞∞∞•

When the check is over, if there are any errors, it will tell you how many failed the test out of how many listed. In the following example, you are actually presented with two errors at the end, the first complaining of a missing file, the other reporting one that seems to be corrupt:

md5sum: WARNING: 1 of 102 listed files could not be read
md5sum: WARNING: 1 of 101 computed checksums did NOT match

You can then scroll up the terminal if need be and find those that didn’t pass:

md5sum: ./Wallpaper01.jpg: No such file or directory
./Wallpaper01.jpg: FAILED open or read
./Wallpaper002.jpg.jpg: FAILED

In this example, “Wallpaper01.jpg“ is seen as “missing”, because it was in fact renamed to “Wallpaper001.jpg“ (to keep in line with the 3-digit numbering of the rest of the files) after the checksum was created (so “Wallpaper001.jpg“ is totally ignored, since there was no hash created for it, and “Wallpaper01.jpg“ is seen as missing, since there is no longer a file of that name). “Wallpaper002.jpg“ is probably corrupt, though not all files that do not pass the test fail to open (but, generally, the case is that the file is corrupt, and the larger the file, the more chance there is of that).

Otherwise, if all you see is the command prompt with the last file above it with an OK next to it, then all is fine:

./Wallpaper100.jpg: OK

•∞∞∞θθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθ∞∞∞•

To make all this easier, make command aliases, like make5 (to generate an md5sum.txt file), 5 (to check a folder) and cd5 (to check a disc that can be verified). This will save you memorising and typing long commands, or even copying and pasting from a text file of commands you’ve probably got (if you’re clever).

•∞∞∞θθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθ∞∞∞•

To check a disc image or other file you’re downloading that has a checksum listed, you can generate a checksum, and simply compare the output with what is listed on the website:

md5sum name_of_the_image.iso

Obviously, you’ll need to replace the name in the example with the actual name of the file, but to save typing it if it is long, you can just enter md5sum (followed by a space), drag the downloaded file to the terminal and drop it there, then hit Enter (though you can, of course, just copy the file’s name as well). Then, as I said, simply compare the numbers in the terminal and website.

Now, if you’re downloading a bunch of stuff, all with checksums supplied, you can create your own master checksum file, which will check them all in one go when you’re ready. Syntax is very important, so the lines should look like this:

8790491bfa9d00f283ed9dd2d77b3906 *ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso
3faa345d298deec3854e0e02410973dc *ubuntu-9.10-alternate-i386.iso
dc51c1d7e3e173dcab4e0b9ad2be2bbf *ubuntu-9.10-desktop-amd64.iso

In this example, Ubuntu CDs are used, but they can be anything, as long as you lay it out like that. You can name the file what you want, but if you want to stick with tradition, and to make it easier to check (via the command above, or its alias 5), name it md5sum.txt. And you can use this before you get all the files, as when you run the check, it will just tell you 2 out 0f 3 couldn’t be found (and you’ll see the one you did download listed, hopefully with an OK next to it).

If you name the checksum file something different, or in the case of the Ubuntu discs downloaded a master checksum file for all images, and it has a name like Ubuntu 9.10.MD5Sum (though that’s the name I actually gave it), it doesn’t matter. You can just enter md5sum -c (followed by a space), then either type the name of the file, or drag the file to the terminal. Note you can also do this with the alias 5 – it will complain it didn’t find md5sum.txt, but then go on to verify the files recorded in Ubuntu 9.10.MD5Sum (or whatever your file is called). Of course, you could just rename the checksum file to md5sum.txt, but as you can see, you don’t really need to.

•∞∞∞θθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθ∞∞∞•

When you’re going to backup a folder to DVD, always run a check on it first. That way, if you’ve done something like renamed a bunch of files after the md5sum.txt file was created, you’ll know before burning a disc that will always come up with those “errors”. You can then either generate new checksums, or open md5sum.txt and replace the old names with the new ones (renaming files does not alter their checksum hashes, so you do not need to generate new ones for them).

•∞∞∞θθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθθ∞∞∞•

So, hopefully that’s all you need to get you going in setting up some data verification, which comes in handy when wanting to make sure all the data on a DVD is valid before passing it on, or deleting the copies off your hard drive if archiving. And now that you know what those hashes or .md5 files are on websites, make sure you grab them, so you can verify the integrity of your downloads. And if you set up those aliases, all of this becomes even simpler, as those names are short and easy to remember.
