Tres són les darreres adquisicions discogràfiques que han ampliat la meva discografia casolana. Les tres les vaig adquirir el mateix temps. Ara farà tres setmanes aproximadament. Aquests tres treballs m’han sorprès tant que he decidit, primer fer-ne difusió, i segon fer-ne una valoració.

El primer treball, correspon al disc enregistrat per en Marc Parrot, 50 anys de la Nova Cançó. Al meu entendre, un excel·lent treball de recopilacions, sobretot perquè en Marc Parrot es dedica a posar el millor de la seva música en cançons i temes que formen part de la memòria col·lectiva del país. Un disc pels amants de la cançó d’autor en català, d’ara i d’abans.

El segon disc que ha arribat a les meves mans, és el de la formació penedesenca Anna Roig i l’ombre de Ton Chien. Un disc molt interessant, amb la cançó francesa com a referència musical. Aquest grup alterna cançons cantades en català amb cançons cantades en francès. Anna Roig i l’ombre de Ton Chien ens transporten a un ambient tranquil i íntim. Música amb bon gust per les paraules i les lletres. Música per ensucrar i endolcir les nostres orelles. Música de qualitat.

I el tercer i darrer disc que he adquirit, Esquitxos Ultralleugers, és de la formació liderada pel poeta Josep Pedrals, Els Nens Eutròfics. Aquest grup, a diferència dels anteriors, he tingut el plaer d’escoltar-nos en directe a la Fira de Música al Carrer de Vila-seca, i de fet ja n’he parlat en aquest bloc. Una formació on els poemes d’en Josep Pedrals esdeven cançons. Una música més anglosaxona, però fresca, com així ho demostren les seves lletres. Un disc molt interessant per estar a qualsevol discografia casolana.

Once again, there is a, dvd, technology format war looming on the horizon. Many people don’t remember the VHS – Betamax battle that broke out when video players were first introduced, making it possible for people to watch movies at home. This was a case of two non-compatible technologies, each of which was a format for taping full length feature films. Ultimately VHS won, dvd, out, and the movie companies put out their, dvd, products in that format – thus dooming Betamax and the product manufacturers that had adopted, dvd, their technology, not to mention the thousands of consumers that had invested in Betamax players, dvd, . We now find ourselves on the verge of creating a new set of sore losers.
Skirmishes over LCD versus plasma, dvd, screen HD TV technology are ongoing, but that type of technology contest isn’t as acute because you can watch TV or a movie on, dvd, either, dvd, type of screen. Currently, you can also play every DVD available on any DVD player that is in production and on the market. The next generation of DVD players, however, is coming over the horizon in the form of two distinct and incompatible technologies.
Toshiba versus Sony
Toshiba has developed a proprietary technology dubbed high definition DVD (HDDVD) and to support their, dvd, format has developed alliances with Microsoft and Universal Films, among others. The HDDVD disks will be available in 15GB and two sided, 30GB versions, dvd, .
By way of comparison, the current DVDs have enough, dvd, storage for two hours of standard definition (SD) images, while the one-sided 15 gigabyte HDDVD disk can store up to eight hours of high, dvd, definition (HD) images. The first

You don't have to be upside down

Its a question I’m often asked as a complement or perhaps replacement for chiropractic care and rehabilitation… and its a good question.

In the 60’s Dr. Robert Martin initiated the modern interest in inversion.  My father visited him and purchased an industrial size unit that wedged itself between the floor and ceiling overpowering a room with its presence. The principle is simple: reverse the effect of gravity by hanging upside down a form of traction.

Reversing Gravity: My father told me that 10 minutes of inversion was the equivalent of 2.5 hours of rest. I suspect he got that from Dr. Martin… or maybe not.

Avoiding surgery: A group of studies has found inversion to be helpful and often avoids the need for the majority of disc related surgeries. In practice I have found it hard to predict which person it might help and have developed a protocol that helps ensure the best potential to help the patient.

Traction basics: Try and stretch an injured joint. It doesn’t feel good.  Trying to stretch an injured or irritated spine doesn’t feel good either.

Chiropractic first: Chiropractic care for the spine mobilizes segments and improves spinal health reducing the restricted areas that can be irritate by inversion or any form of traction.

Also, patients in severe pain can’t get on an inversion unit, let alone put their feet in the boots.

Moderation first: Hanging completely upside down is NOT necessary to traction the spine (and may not be safe). The angle demonstrated in the picture provides a more gentle traction and less head pressure.  I start patients with:

1. a brief deep inversion to obtain the stretch
2. a wiggle in place while inverted to reach maximal stretch
3. revert to only a few degrees of rest angle (less than in the picture) once the tension has been created.

Naturally once the patient heals and regains spinal function they can comfortably increase the angle.The picture demonstrates a patient hanging on with hands but at the right balance point, the arms can be moved to change the center of gravity and vary the angle.

NOTE 1: There are contraindications which should be discussed with your health care provider.

NOTE 2: The unit is not a place to sleep. One of my patients fell asleep for 2 hours and the increased cranial pressure detached a retina.
