Last night it was my mates 24th Birthday, and boy, what a night it was! ♥ We hired out the services

Last night it was my mates 24th Birthday, and boy, what a night it was! ♥

We hired out the services of Daytona Limos for the night and they did not disappoint. Our ride of choice was a 2007 H2 Hummer Limousine, complete with room for twenty passengers, five bars, 32″ plasma HDTV, multiple smaller plasma TV’s, DVD player, iPod hook up and a X-Box game console; all ours, for FOUR hours! PWOAH!

The crew out front of our Hummer Limo!

One of the five bars in the limo!

The night started at 11pm when the Hummer came and picked us up from Chatham Square. Now, let’s be honest, the only things we ever see parked out front of Chatham are the Disney College Program buses which look like they are about to fall apart, or airport shuttles and cabs begging for our business… so when we saw this beauty parked out front, you can only imagine the looks of delight on our faces! Once we were all aboard, we headed up the street to Vista Way to pick up the next bunch of guests aswell as a quick detour to Magic Kingdom to pick up one more who was knocking off a late shift! What happens next is kind of a massive blur, but the photos indicate we ended up at Universal City Walk and then safely back home to Chatham Square haha.

The night was an absolute success, no thanks to the endless flow of booze from one of our five bars. We rocked it hardcore to Miss. Kelly Clarkson and Miss. Taylor Swift… the boys loved the song choices haha. Funny that as soon as Since U Been Gone and I Do Not Hook Up came on, every boy and their dog knew the lyrics to them both and were screaming them out at the top of their lungs!

Daytona Limos really made for an amazing birthday celebration… but who needs a birthday to celebrate, right!?!

2007 H2 Hummer Limousine

Today something very mean happened…at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Daniel & I were making

Today something very mean happened…at Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

Daniel & I were making our way to the Ferry at Magic Kingdom, we were walking as our parking lot was so close. One our way we passed the Kennels where you can keep your pets for the day while you are having fun at the park.

Daniel & I were going to leave Bailey & Zoey in their care but chose a different place in the end. I will share about the place we chose in a day or two. We are animal lovers and know that pets when away from us can behave badly, that can not be controlled really, but the humans.. that’s another story.

So we were passing by the Kennels, we saw a lady taking out a small chihuahua to potty. Dear person who owns this little baby, I am sorry but we witnessed your precious baby being handled like it was trash and an inconvenience. This “lady” proceeded to drag the poor pup. This little pup started crying so loud.

Daniel instantly walked over to the Kennels to inform whomever was in charge that they were not handling the dog properly, almost abusive, if not abusivly. While he was in the building I saw this “lady” pull this tiny dog into a bush and drag the pup along the bushes making it scream and jump like crazy.

Where as no one was paying it much attention before other than hubby & I, a crowd started to stop & stare, how could you not notice a screaming, crying pup. This “lady” seemed to notice she was being watched and all of a sudden stopped what she was doing and drug the dog into the grass where she proceeded to pretend that she was trying to get the dog to come to her.

The pup wriggled and jumped and was trying to get away from her, lady gave up and drug poor pup back into the Kennel. Daniel came back and then someone went to go check on lady and pup. I am glad Daniel went and spoke out. We can only hope that proper action was taken against this “lady”.

I am really glad now that we did not take our dogs there, they are our kids and we treat them as such, they are our family members and want the best for them. Dog or child, neither deserves any kind of abuse.

We have no idea if this was an isolated incident or if it is a common thing for this worker or others but I would really check out the Disney Kennel first and think twice about leaving your dog in thier care.

There is nothing more magical than getting on the Ferry that crosses over to Disney, there you can s

There is nothing more magical than getting on the Ferry that crosses over to Disney, there you can see the Castle! This was not the first time I had been to Disney, I went forever ago with a family I was a Nanny for, but I did not get to see or do much then.

However, I still got chills seeing the Castle from the boat, the excitement welled, this trip has been a long time coming, about 7 years we have been trying to get here but for some reason or another we always had to cancel our plans, not this time

We did not spend to much time “looking” at things like stores and the other eye candy as we knew we would need all that time to stand in lines so we could go on some rides. We actually got to go on more rides than we had imagined we would.

Daniel also stood in line with me so I could see the Fairies, including Tink, get their autographs and pictures taken, did I mention we were in line just for that for 1 1/2 hours! It almost seemed worth it,lol. However, I wanted to see Minnie & Mickey, but I did not have it in me to wait in line for another 2+ hours.

For those whom like to ride rides that are for ”big” kids, Disney’s Magic Kingdom might not be for you, I would suggest Six Flags instead. They did have one small roller coaster that was a blast, we had to wait in line for one & a half hours though. Most of your time is spent standing & waiting, but just about everything we did was worth the wait in the end.

One of our favorite rides was the Haunted Mansion!

We actually got to ride it 3 times, once early in the day and the other two times were late at night.

We had an amazing day and night as we stayed at the park till almost closing time which was 1:00am. We were both beyond exhausted. I highly recommend the Fireworks show as well as the light parade in the evenings.

Tomorrow is our second day of the Magic Kingdom and it is the last day of our Disney vacation!

I had great intentions. There was plenty of fodder. After spending nearly a week at Disney’s

I had great intentions. There was plenty of fodder. After spending nearly a week at Disney’s Orlando Magic Kingdom, plus events before and after our trip, I could’ve written volumes. Instead, I took a break.

Sitting here now, 1/2 day after our return on our good-old comfortable living room couch, our two boys creating a fort with our dining room furniture and sundry blankets and sheets, I could write about how our two other family members–my husband and daughter–are both sick in bed with fever, chills, cough…how the boys both had a horrendous cough during our vacation…how our daughter spiked a 102 degree fever on the plane flight home (and successfully learned how to unplug her painful ears by holding her nose and blowing hard).

I could write about the fatal explosion that rocked our quaint little downtown area the day before our departure, which is still splashing across the local news with grizzly images of store fronts flattened, brick & mortar debris scattered across Main Street.

I could write about how fantastic it was to meet up with my editor from my first book, Ashley Shelby of Book of Moons Literary Services in the Minneapolis airport–a friend through a work venture who I have never met face-to-face before that day.

I could also write about the awesome hotel we stayed in for the majority of our vacation: Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge where African animals such as zebras, giraffes, long horned cattle, flamingos, African gazelles, etc. roam the 33 acre reserve-like grounds surrounding the hotel. I could write about the hours our kids gleefully spent in the hotel swimming pool–having been decked out in thick, winter coats and snow boots only days before.

I could write about the Mad Hatter’s Tea Cup Ride, the race car ride (along side of which we saw a small armadillo strolling by, unfazed by the noise and commotion of young children poorly steering 5mph mock race cars), the flying Dumbo ride, Aladdin’s Flying Magic Carpet Ride, and the spectacularly decorated Carousel (which, out of all the attractions our Montana kids were exposed to, and are unlikely to see in their near future, captivated them the most), It’s a Small World, and Snow White’s Scary Adventure (yes, it was scary for our two-, four-, and six-year-old kids)…but I might not have enough energy to do these things justice.

I could also write about Disney’s Animal Kingdom park which we visited on our third day–at which point our kids were fairly exhausted by the (relative) heat & humidity, the (relative) crowds, and the (relative) change to their normal schedules. During our four hours at this park, we rode exactly one ride (the Safari drive which was really quite cool–being driven around in a convincingly designed safari bus through a mock African wild animal reserve (much like the hotel we were staying in) where we saw more fauna to tune of crocodiles, hippos, ostriches, a lion, elephants, etc. Our gayer than gay tour guide lisped of our necessary vigilance in watching for (make believe) poachers during our (mock) two week safari trip, his enthusiasm for the dictates of the ten minute ride fairly contagious.

If I were chronicling our first big family vacation, I could also write about how hard it is to stay in one hotel room with three little kids (nap and bed times get really messed up), how fun it was to watch the Magic Kingdom parades and stage shows with those same three little kids who are in the midst of awestruckdom when it comes to Disney character’s, bright lights, princess castles and the like. I could talk about how our two-year-old boy got his foot caught between the shuttle bus seat and adjacent wall, and how the quick-thinking bus driver pulled a packet of Neosporin from her trusty bus driver’s emergency kit so we could slip his swollen little paw free.

If I really wanted to be long-winded, I could go on to write of the awesome African conservationists who Disney hired to staff our hotel, and one of whom was always available to teach guests about the animals on the grounds, and how those animals live and fare in their native home land. I could talk about how, on the third swimming pool day, our four-year-old son regained his courage in the water and remembered how to swim under water like a fearless fish, and how much of a bummer it was to return to nineteen degrees and snow on the ground after being in a balmy summer environment just twelves hours prior.

If I wanted to finish a post on a sentimental note, I might expound on how proud Andrew and I were to be able to take our young family on such a fun, experiential vacation, despite the fact that after $5,000.00 worth of plane tickets, hotel stays and theme park entrance fees, we rode no more than nine rides, consumed less than two servings of ice cream a piece and collectively returned home sleep deprived and guzzling as much Motrin as we had been prior to departure.

The thing is: traveling with young kids requires patience; it requires reasonable expectations and careful planning. We aimed low, as far as our assumptions for how much we would “see and do” while on vacation and so, from that standpoint, our trip was a success! Even though the kids ate more French fries than they will in the coming twelve months, they all had fun in their own little ways and our first big trip together in no way turned us off from the potential of future vacations together. We will have enough photos to fill a lovely album, a few souvenirs to jog our memories, and the desire to travel together again in the near future.

I had to get the story behind the dancing turkey.

Will and his business partner travel the fall festival circuit of Connecticut serving up delectable smoked turkey legs to hungry fair goers. You know—the giant arm-sized turkey legs that you see people eating at Disney’s Magic Kingdom and Epcot? Well, Will and his family were vacationing at Disney World about thirteen years ago, and he ate one of those turkey legs. He pronounced it “pretty good,” but said he told his wife and daughter he thought he could do better. Will is quite the grill master, and had been a meat smoking hobbyist before launching his turkey leg enterprise as a business venture.

Tiny Dancer

When Will started “The Best Legs in Town,” he needed a logo. His daughter, 11 years old at the time, was smack in the middle of a serious dancing hobby. They knew they wanted a turkey to be part of the logo. It was Will’s daughter who told him he should put a lady’s dancing legs on the turkey. She told him, solemnly, “The turkey needs to be wearing fishnet hose.” A star was born!

Tons of Legs

Will’s business has come a long way in thirteen years. His daughter is now in college, studying to be a nurse. Will is so busy that he can no longer smoke all of the turkey legs himself, but has help from a commercial meat smoker that uses his secret sauce recipe and methods he has perfected over the years. “In the last thirteen years, we’ve gone from selling hundreds of legs to selling, literally, tons of legs.” He found Queensboro by searching the internet after less than successful experiences with other shirt makers. His operation is still pretty small—he hires just a few helpers to get through the fall fair season, so he appreciates Queensboro’s low minimum order quantities. Queensboro’s free embroidery is also a welcome perk!

The Back Story

We talk a lot on this blog about what your logo says about you and your business. We offer tips for logos that will open the door for conversation, and pique the interest of potential customers. One of our Customer Service Representatives, Jennifer (read the blog post to find out which Jennifer), likes to imagine stories about the thousands of logos we embroider each week. Will’s “Best Legs in Town” logo passed the logo test with flying colors. It was interesting, unusual, and has a great back story. You can’t look at the logo without asking “What DO you do?” A great opening to talk up the business!

5. Cinderella Castle at Disney’s Magic Kingdom contains a secret apartment that was originally built for Walt Disney and his family. (Walt Disney died in 1966 – long before construction began on Cinderella Castle. The “Cinderella Castle Suite” used for Disney’s Year of a Million Dreams celebration was recently constructed out of an unused space in the castle.)

4. In case of a hurricane, the Cinderella Castle’s 10 spires can be easily removed to prevent them from damage. (Although the castle was built to withstand hurricane force winds, no part of it can be disassembled in the event of a hurricane.)

3. The plane from the Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios OR from the Jungle Cruise at Disney’s Magic Kingdom is the same one that was used in the famous final scene of the classic 1942 film, Casablanca. (Actually, the plane from Casablanca was just a movie prop.)

2. A Disney World guest was decapitated after standing up while riding Space Mountain. (According to some reports, it was a “test dummy” that had its head severed during testing by Disney Imagineers before Space Mountain was opened to the public.)

1. Walt Disney’s body lies cryogenically frozen in a secret chamber buried deep beneath Disney’s Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort. (Disney was actually cremated and buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.)
