Comment ?

Any retail store needs to have a nice and professional way to display their merchandise. Retail stores invest in display fixtures to show off the goods. Display fixtures and good display cases show off goods to best advantage which helps maximise sales. Presentation is all important in sales.

Here are some of the things you need to consider when going out to buy display fittings:

Style is an important consideration at this time. The style of your display fixtures needed will be determined by the products you stock and the overall ambience of the store. For example, glass cases are perfect in some situations but completely impractical in others.

Next you’ve to think about how you wish to display your product range. Some merchandise will look good folded but other items need to be opened out. This depends on your store and stock and theres no definitive way to increase sales.

You now have to look at the space you have. Buying too few or too many fixtures etc will cause you grief at a later stage. Work out how you intend to utilise the space you have available to you. The wider the product range that you can show the better it will be.

Thirdly decide how much you’re going to spend. Spend what you feel you can afford, not too cheap but not too dear either. At the end of the day this is your store and investment should increase return.

An attractive display can make a real difference to sales within a store. Sales are very likely to suffer if you can’t show your product range to its best advantage. You should buy store display fixtures and cases that suit the style of your store and make your merchandise stand out.

It pays to have merchandise displayed in a nice and professional way. Display fixtures are used by retail stores. Good quality fixtures and display cases help you show off the products for sale. Goods that are displayed well, look and sell better.

Let me advise you on some of the things you need to consider when buying display fixtures and display cases:

Style is an important consideration at this time. The style of your display fixtures needed will be determined by the products you stock and the overall ambience of the store. In many instances glass display cases work well but they are not always the solution.

Next you’ve to think about how you wish to display your product range. Some goods are best displayed in glass cases but others need to be hung up. This depends on your store and stock and theres no definitive way to increase sales.

The next thing you need to think about is how much or how little space you have. Should you not buy enough fittings you may run into problems later. Plan the way you intend to fill up the available space. The more goods you can have on display the better.

Thirdly decide how much you’re going to spend. Whilst you may not want to go for the most expensive fixtures don’t go for the cheapest either. Ultimately this is your shop and you have to invest in it.

An attractive display can make a real difference to sales within a store. Goods have to be displayed nicely and prominently or they won’t sell. Quality stylish fixtures and display cases will allow you to show off your products.

It pays to have merchandise displayed in a nice and professional way. Display fixtures are generally used. Organising a store and displaying wares well will improve sales so retailers invest in good display fittings. Stock, well-presented, will sell well.

Here are some pointers for when you are choosing display fixtures:

Consider the style of fittings you want. The style will be dictated by how you want the store to look etc. e.g. glass display cases will work well sometimes but not all the time.

The next thing to consider is how you want to display your products. Some goods are best displayed in glass cases but others need to be hung up. This depends on the type of store you run and there is no exact science as to which way will maximize sales.

Next you have to consider the space you have to play with. Should you not buy enough fittings you may run into problems later. Consider how you intend to occupy the space. The more goods you can have on display the better.

Next you need to consider the price involved. You don’t need to buy the dearest fixtures but don’t go cheap and nasty either. You must be willing to invest in your store and make it as nice as possible.

There’s no doubt that well displayed goods sell well. Goods have to be displayed nicely and prominently or they won’t sell. Quality stylish fixtures and display cases will allow you to show off your products.

I recently finished working on a consumer behavior research in Bucharest, my hometown, and this project enabled me to get to know more of it. I knew it before but now it was even more obvious how beautiful this city could be. And I say COULD because of the unloved, forgotten houses that one can find hidden among the neoRomanian, modern, socialist, eclectic architectural styles that cover Bucharest’s visual scenery. There are dozens of elegant and unique buildings that enchant viewer’s eyes and crave for restoration. Nobody does anything to bring them back to life. Still, Case care plang (tran. ‘Houses that cry’), a non-governmental association, tries to deal with this issue and raise awareness on it.

In the meantime, there are some things moving. The City Hall of Bucharest started a redesigning and thermally restoration project of the socialist blocks which means good looking and more comfortable households at very little or no cost for the inhabitants. Just to give you an idea, this is before and after.

At a bigger scale, there’s the Favela Painting project which is supporting the “creation of striking artworks in unexpected places. It collaborates with local people to use art as a tool to inspire, create beauty, combat prejudice and attract attention.” And I thought, this should be a powerful inspiration for all the cities that need a new face.

The first painting, finished in 2007, was a 150m2 mural depicting a boy flying a kite, by far the most popular pastime in Rio’s favela’s.

A mural painted in VIla Cruzeiro, a slum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil by Duch painters Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn. The artists came up with the idea of painting the cement staircase – installed to prevent landslides by the city government – after painting another mural in the slum. Most slum residents have never been to an art museum and now find themselves living in one. It has helped bring positive news to community known for the dangerous shootouts of police and drug gangs.(Australfoto/Douglas Engle)

Now they are working on the so called ‘O Morro‘. Instead of painting a part of a slum in Rio de Janeiro they came up with the idea to paint this entire hillside in the center of Rio. When finished, it will be the greatest community driven artwork of our time, visible to all inhabitants, visitors and Google earth. Wonderful work, guys!

Sistema centralizzato composto da rilevatori sistemati nelle prese e da un dispositivo a interfaccia che viene utilizzato dall’utenza domestica nello spazio della casa.

Serve a ridurre gli sprechi energetici dovuti agli apparecchi lasciati in stand by e a creare consapevolezza nell’utente.

As readers of this blog already know, I ain’t no writer. Having said that, when Times food section editor, Russ Parsons, asked me if I could do a piece on creating last-minute Thanksgiving centerpieces, I recklessly agreed. See, I was so excited by the prospect of coming up with the centerpieces I just figured I would deal with the whole writing part later. Meanwhile, my tireless partner, Paul, suffered through my parts-gathering for the projects; then suffered further when I had made up 8 (!) centerpieces and almost every kitchen surface was covered with the various bits and pieces for a few weeks. I showed photos of the pieces to Russ and he picked which he wanted to run in the newspaper (above; to be professionally shot at The Times). Oh, and the story? Russ said it should be about 800 words — Aaack!

This set off the manic typing of at least 1,327 drafts (all immediately deleted upon completion). I also had to take everything I would need to re-create the pieces that would run in print, to the newspaper’s photo studio in downtown L.A … and then turn in the story … Finally, I re-wrote it for the last time, took a deep breath and emailed it to Russ just before going on a week’s vacation. While off that week I received some notes from Russ, and after some further not-0verly painful editing, the whole shebang was finished.
You can read the piece here, as well as see the professionally photographed versions of the centerpieces pictured above. The mini-succulent garden made the cover

The above group of four set-ups appear online on The Times’ website here. My personal fave is the faux succulent group. Don’t you think the unshelled-nut ‘gravel’ really sets off the colors of the seasonal squashes?… um, maybe it’s just me…

This last of the 8 centerpiece ensembles, I gave over to another Times’ product, BrandX, for their gift guide issue which appears on the same day as the Food section. It’s one of three do-it-yourself gift projects by staffers. You can see all of them here.

What am I most grateful for this Thanksgiving? That these projects are finished, that the editor’s of the sections involved asked me to participate in this way and that they look great in both the print and online editions of the newspaper. Try some of these projects — they’re really easy!

LG BD 390 Network Blu-ray Disc Player Review

I picked this unit for the Netflix. Wireless configuration was a breeze. Was using Netflix in just a few minutes. Netflix works extremely well. Seemless kick ask video performance. It also offers Vudu. Didn’t know what this was so I gave Vudu a try. Kick ask. I didn’t know HD could be streamed over the internet so well. Movies look great on Vudu and so easy to use through the BD390.

I was not impressed with the music playing via the USB port. There is no shuffle; not even within a single folder. And then when you get to the end of the last file in a folder, instead of continuing to play the first file on the next folder, it just stops. Not kick ask. Lame. I can fit my entire music collection on a 4 GB USB stick, so I intend to use the BD390 to listen to music with the USB and not use CDs. These limitations on USB play back are lame.

I have to hand it to blu-ray player makers on how much stuff they are jamming into these small and afforable boxes. There are billions of formats (both audio and video) and media types to deal with. Really amazing. But you know, I once bought a DVD player that could remember the stopped position of the last 5 DVDs played. So if you ejected the DVD and then re-inserted it, it could continue playing where you left off. I have yet to see a blu-ray player offer this feature, but near the climax of DVD player feature advancement, many DVDs offered this feature. This is a very usefull feature if disk switching occurs before finishing them. So to some degree, I’m poo-pooing all blu-ray players until I see this commonly available DVD feature on blu-ray players. Skip the non-kick ask BD Live. I can really care less about BD Live, but I’m sure thousands of hours of engineering development went into it.

The picture quality is great with the BD390. Is not clear from the marketing, but this blu-ray will upconvert DVDs to 1080p. DVDs look great. The BD390 can also output either 24 or 60 Hz video.

The front display is not kick ask. No way to see the remaining time on a movie or even the duration of a movie through menu options. And when playing USB music, you have to have the TV on. You just cannot navigate the folder without looking at the TV. All you see is the time of play. I think they could have managed to get the display to show folder and file information on the display. My car stereo can do it. Take away a few thousand hours of development on BD Live and improve the display on the unit. Also, MP3 files only show the file name on TV. It does not read the MP3 metadata tag information, which is really better for getting the artist and song title.

So I have nit-picked a bit, but over all, the BD390 is kick ask. Netflix is just awesome.

Customer Reviews

Davidsan – David Myers – Springfield, IL United States
This is an excellent player with probably the cheapest remote i have ever seen .. But than most of us don’t buy anything because it has a good remote but a better one would be nice .. this one is just so basic sort of like one you would get 15 years ago .. even a simple lighted key option would make this a more acceptable remote.

I think the best thing about this was how easy it was to set up network streaming to netflix which is really I use it for, in addition to basic dvd watching and download softare updates. Setting up the networking is maybe 10 minutes and it works flawlessly although net flix doesn’t seem to broadcast in dolby 5.1 the stereo sound but played in thx cinema mode is excellant none the less . The picture is superb in both netflix and with dvds .. The sound in general with this blu ray is much better than any dvd player I have had it puts everything in the right spot.
The speed to boot up is twice as fast as my non networked Sony Blu ray. I think having built in wi fi makes this by far the best current choice of any Blu ray hands down

Good quality BD player with streaming capabilities – George_MD – Maryland
The only draw that I can think of is network is not recognized every time I turn the player on (N-draft). Other than that streams perfectly. Upscales perfectly. Love playing DivX movies from USB drive – saves a lot of time by not having to burn a DVD.
Perhaps slightly overpriced.

This is a good blue-ray player, but don’t buy it from Amazon. Amazon is a ripoff – Reza Omrani – Santa Clara, CA United States
I have always wondering why people are leaving these type of comments(criticizing Amazon in product review), and I never figured it out till last night that this is the only thing they could do to relieve themselves. I always had been a big fan of Amazon and assumed they have great costumer service. That is why despite their heftier price tag, I would always go with them, assuming I am paying the premium for their excellent costumer service. Last night I just found that the excellent costumer service is just an illusion (it may not been so couple of years back). I bought LG BD-390 on Amazon last week for 279$ while I could find it as cheap as 250$ elsewhere, and just checked the price again last night and found Amazon is selling the same item for 259$ while others are still giving it away for the same 250$. I called costumer service about this matter hoping they can come up with a solution, quite to my surprise I faced costumer service showing no sympathy and being so rude. I thought that is only an exception and I followed up my complaint by email and the reply I just received is not adding anything to their bad and rude costumer service. I talked with couple of friends and I found out that, they have had bad experiences with Amazon costumer service lately too. I don’t know what has changed, but I am not going to buy from them anymore.

Well the one on the bottom just made the founders of Teracent, very, very rich!

OK, that’s not quite the same example that Google just gave over at the official blog, but it did announce that it plans to acquire Teracent.

What does Teracent do?

Teracent’s technology can pick and choose from literally thousands of creative elements of a display ad in real-time — tweaking images, products, messages or colors. These elements can be optimized depending on factors like geographic location, language, the content of the website, the time of day or the past performance of different ads.

This technology can help advertisers get better results from their display ad campaigns. In turn, this enables publishers to make more money from their ad space and delivers web users better ads and more ad-funded web content.

Think of it as multi-variate testing for your banner ads.

No news yet on the price paid and the deal is subject to final closing conditions.

Google picked up another display technology company Teracent which makes a technology that allows advertisers to dynamically feed content into a display ad. What’s cool about it is that you can dynamically feed images (not just copy) into them and also do the normal geo-targeting stuff that is currently out there. So in essence, each ad is highly unique.

See image above. The ad on the left is the normal ad and the one on the right is with all the dynamic content in there.

Also interesting, Google published a pie chart illustrating that an estimated 55 per cent of mobile advertising budgets in 2009 will be spent on SMS advertising, compared to 25 per cent on applications and web site advertising, and 20 per cent on mobile search. But so far, Google doesn’t really seem to have serious SMS play. I guess we’ll see if they buy their way into that or really try to build something from scratch.

In less than one week, Longwood’s tireless staff removes the entire chrysanthemum display in a complete make-over of the Gardens. We have three days each year (the three days before Thanksgiving) to transform the Gardens into a Longwood Gardens Christmas. Our 2009 theme of pollination has carried over into our Christmas preparations, with many of the popular trees, wreaths and decorations featuring flowers, fruits and insects.

I can’t wait to see the 28-foot tree in the East Conservatory covered with hundreds of animatronic blue butterflies complementing the blue and silver themed display in that garden. Familiar favorites like paperwhite narcissus and artemisia will be displayed alongside blue flowered Salvia glechomifolia and Plectranthus thyrsoideus. These plants are natives of Mexico and Central Africa, respectively, and will be in full bloom throughout the winter season!

On the Exhibition Hall floor you will be amazed at the floral “carpet” that our gardeners and designers have been working on busily. Hundreds of poinsettias, begonias and ivy create a tapestry of color almost 85- feet long! Our inspiration for this masterpiece is the floral carpet created each year in Brussels, Belgium. Theirs is a short-lived palete of begonia flowers–while ours will last the duration of the display, from November 26-January 10. The reflective pool of water on the floor surrounding the carpet will lead your eye to the decorated floral tree on the Exhibition Hall stage. At Longwood, not only do we hang ornaments on our trees, we also install living plants on an elaborate framework complete with irrigation!

Kids of all ages should be on the lookout for the garden railway running outside the Lower Reception Suite overlooking the Main Fountain Garden. There will be a forest of 28 multicolored Christmas trees lit with energy-saving LED lights. The trains will dart in and out of this “forest” creating a festive atmosphere. This year Longwood Gardens in projecting that 97% of our 500,000 outdoor displays of Christmas lights will be LED. What an amazing green initiative were accomplishing!

As you enter the Reception Suite from the outdoor train display you might see these wreaths that feature the fruits of pollination. In between maintaining the gardens, many of Longwood’s talented staff are floral artists creating dazzling displays out of traditional and unusual material. These pieces are constructed of salal leaves and mood moss. It takes about three hours per wreath, with a total of four people working on them at one stage or another! Thank goodness for all of Longwood’s dedicated volunteers!

Speaking of volunteers, not everyone has to be experienced in horticulture or floral design to participate in the creation of a Longwood Gardens Christmas. The watercolor you see here was created by one of our volunteers! The image is the Mediterranean Garden, which will be transformed into an outdoor California patio garden this Christmas. Flowering Aloe, poinsettia and cyclamen are all popular outdoor plants during the mild winters of California. This display will make you long to be outside on a cool California evening, with a glass of wine in hand. Look closely at the French doors, which will offer a peek ”inside the home” to a Christmas tree! The planning process for displays such as this span an entire year, if not more! We go through countless discussions and revisions before the final product reaches the Gardens. We’re currently refining the plans for 2010… our year of Fragrance… even though we haven’t finished installing 2009 yet!

This is just a quick glimpse of some of the things we are up to in preparation for a Longwood Gardens Christmas. We hope to see you at one of our ice skating performances, or in the Ballroom to sing alongside the Longwood Organ during our dazzling Christmas display, which begins Thanksgiving Day. Happy Holidays!

The Kindle has far exceeded my expectations. Purchase of new Kindle Books is smart and simple. There are a couple of issues with the Kindle that I find disturbing. The ability to highlight and navigate the indexes and tables of contents is difficult to master. The instructions are not clear in getting to use some of the features. Other than that, the Kindle is a fantastic product. I will recommend this product to my friends and family.

Dear reader,

You might have already heard about the projection film technology that is being used for communication, advertising and entertaining purposes. Some months ago I started a new job that deals with this unique and innovative concept. Let me tell you a little bit more about the world of projection films.

There are different types of projection films available on the market:

front projection films

rear projection films

The difference between front and rear projection films is simply where you need to place a projector in order to achieve clear and bright display image when applying the projection film on windows or other glass panels.

ups… i just noticed that it is getting pretty late now.. i will finish the story about projection films tomorrow.

As promised, I continue. Yeap. Another day passed by.

The Green Gift Fair was this past weekend in Minneapolis. What a great time! I did not get to look around, I would have loved to have taken an hour or so, but it was still great! I was so happy to see so many people both producing and supporting green products. Environmental issues have always been big with me growing up in the age of Woodsy, Smokey and the crying Indian. I got to try out my new booth set up and learned even more than I did the last two shows.

I would like to share a couple green artists that I really liked.

The first KM STITCHERY is recycled, reused, and ethical!

Sylvia Plath

She used hand cut stencils and repurposed clothing to make great creations. She works with famous women of history, another love of mine. Woman’s studies in college opened my eyes to these great women and what they did not only for women but for mankind. She will take custom orders and is in many shops across the country. Stop by and check out her work.

Next is Mirasol Farms

Sweet Earth Soap

They do organic soap, creams and other great skin care items. The sample soap I got has the most wonderful aroma and is one of the most incredible soaps I have ever used. I will be stopping by their shop to purchase more!

My booth while closer to what I am looking for, I am only making a few minor changes before my next show. Most of the changes are going to come with my product lines. I am excited!

Slings

I love my new sling set up. The addition of the hanging lady really helped. People would come over to check out the bags. The only change I will be doing with this set up is putting the slings on a waterfall hook, I hope that will free up some more room.

Stockings

The rack a friend made me worked great for my stockings at this show. We painted it green despite the outrage of my friend. And found out at this show that I can make it look how ever we need. This show it worked best with just the two rails.

Time to get back to work. I am working on some big changes for my shops and product line. I hope to have the shops back open late tonight early tomorrow with a big sale!
