I spend so much time taking care of other people and other things, I often forget to take care of myself. In the past few years I have yoyo-ed in weight, forgotten all about skin/hair care, and generally stopped doing anything that could help my appearance. It wasn’t until I saw myself on TV a few weeks ago that I relized how bad I have actually let myself get.

Until tonight. Tonight I am deciding that I need to make myself a priority again. This doesn’t just include things to help my appearance, but things that help me be me again. Taking the time to take a bath, or go on a walk, or just read.

And while not a lot of people would agree with me, I do think that if you take steps to look nice, you will feel nicer too. Tonight I took a long bath and gave myself a pedicure and finally got around to plucking my eyebrows and even this makes me feel so luxurious and glamourous. I need to keep doing things that help me feel better about myself because that will just make me happier, which in turn make the people around me happier.

How do I keep forgetting that??

Well, I started following Dita von Teese on twitter. I think just reading the things she does and the incredible life she leads will help me remember to do what makes me happy and keep being me bc she is so true to herself and has become famous doing what she loves – no matter what anyone thinks. I also like to see how glam her life is and try to bring little pieces of the gracefulness and thoughtfulness of what she does into my life. So shout out to Dita – thanks for living your life and inspiring others to add a bit of glam into theirs.

Copie o estilo pin-up de Dita Von Teese…

Dita é considerada a grande referencia pin0up do momento. Ela adota um estilo clássico no make: é adepta do batom vermelho, do delineador gatinho e dos cílios postiços (Pin-up Totaaal).

Para copiar o estilo pin-up de Dita, você vai precisar de:

- Base opaca, sombra branca, lápis para sobrancelha, blush rosa opaco, lápis labial e batom.

1º passo: Pele

Limpe, hidrate o rosto e aplique uma base opaca. Cubra eventuais manchas, marcas e olheiras com um corretivo. Em seguida, dê o acabamento à pele com pó facial.

2º passo: Olhos

Aplique uma sombra branca acetinada na pálpebra superior e esfumace em direção às sobrancelhas. Faça um traço com delineador líquido preto rente aos cílios superiores, bem no estilo gatinho. Marque as sobrancelhas com um lápis específico, em um tom próximo da cor dos fios, enfatizando o desenho arqueado e cobrindo falhas. Cole os cílios postiços (aprenda a colocá-los no item Cílios postiços) e use o curvex para uni-los aos naturais. Aplique máscara preta nos cílios superiores e, de leve, nos inferiores.

3º passo: Blush e boca

Espalhe generosamente blush rosa opaco nas maçãs do rosto. Delineie a boca com lápis (dica: é mais fácil começar o desenho pelo V do lábio superior). Depois, preencha com um batom de tom vermelho vivo e textura opaca. Não se esqueça: batom e lápis labial devem ter o mesmo tom.

Dita Von Teese talks to The Daily Beast about her sexy new flipbooks, why America can’t handle her moves, and the secrets of old-school burlesque.

America may have just lost burlesque superstar Dita Von Teese to Paris. The 37-year-old Michigan-born performer (née Heather Sweet) finished a run at Paris’ Crazy Horse and has purchased an apartment there (it’s also the home of boyfriend Count Louis Marie de Castelbajac). LA’s “mini skirts and UGG boots” style and permanent sunshine are part of what drove Von Teese to take flight, so she can “fall back in love with LA.”

She says she believes Europe gets her and her art in a way that some in her native country don’t. “Some people really think that all I do is wear red lipstick and dress in vintage clothes and cruise around,” said Von Teese while in Beijing, where she recently performed for a GQ China event. “In France and the U.K., they can show what I do on TV. The Jay Lenos of Europe all have me on. In America they’re obsessed with pop stars and maybe they’re a little bit afraid of having me on there because they think what I’m talking about and what I’m doing is too risqué.”

Crazy Horse de Paris  es un famoso carabet fundado en 1951 por el suicida Alain Bernardin , y ubicado en el sibarítico “triangulo de oro” parisino.

I’ve been fascinated by Dita Von Teese, the burlesque superstar, ever since I read about her several years ago. I was captivated, by her look and, yes, by her job. She has porcelain-fair skin and brunette hair; she dresses and does her make-up like a glamorous hollywood star of the 1940s, emulating a time period and the films I love watching. I loved that she dismissed, even at the behest of others, the blonde-hair, tanned-skin beach babe look in favor of what she wanted, what she found beautiful.

She performs in extravagant burlesque shows, with expensive, meticulously made, Swarovski-studded costumes and sets and takes pride in being a performer, in striptease. (Her most famous routine involves a giant martini glass. Others involve a carousel horse, a giant tube of lipstick, an opium den.) She is a smart, talented, and creative woman. She works on designing her own shows as well and is very successful– successful at doing something shy, introverted me couldn’t conceive of actually doing myself. Stripping.

Hmmmm. Stripping. Despite all my admiration for this strong, successful woman, there’s a little voice nagging at me- my feminist voice- wondering if I should really be so full of admiration. What’s bothering me is this: is it feminist that a woman takes off her clothes for the pleasure of a crowd?

First, I want to be clear. I’m not denouncing Dita Von Teese or any burlesque dancer or stripper. I’m simply wondering, when it comes to taking off your clothes for entertainment, where is the line between your local strip joint and burlesque? What really makes them different from each other and is one “better” than the other and more acceptable for a feminist?

When you’re involved in an industry where beauty and sexiness is power, what happens to you when you lose that which most people who aren’t Sophia Loren eventually do? In pornography, a woman’s value is reduced to her looks, some cookie-cutter standard of “hot” that’s supposed to get the dudes off. And if she doesn’t adhere to those standards then beat it, doll face. Dita Von Teese, however, defies this in many ways. She’s 37, for one, and certainly doesn’t look like or behave like the average porn star. I couldn’t imagine her taking part in a recorded (or photographed) session of gratuitous moaning.

The more I think about it, the more Dita Von Teese seems to have more in common with a ballet dancer than a stripper. And ballet is another industry that demands women look a certain way. Careful attention paid to costumes, sets, routines?  Check. Ballet Shoes? Check. High level of physical fitness? Check. It’s just ballet dancers run around in skin-tight leotards and don’t remove them on stage. (And it is much more of an established art form.)

Maybe I’m just thinking about this way too hard. Got caught up in the whole nude thing. Like professional dancers, Dita Von Teese too makes her living with her body. I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad, or anti-feminist thing. What do you think?

Like taking a step back in time, you get to glam up old school and feel like a lady.  We’re talking panties, corsets, retro dresses, and a lot of red lipstick and hairspray – we advise going all out of your outfit for this one, as those who dress ‘normally’ tend to stick out like sore thumbs. 

While at 36-45 quid, the price is steeper than a nightclub, you are getting to see international burlesque performers (who by the way, are sooo sexy, you’ll be wanting to tassle-dance around a pole by the end of the night) so consider it more like going to a concert than just a club – you get a lot of burlesque for your buck. 

And if you’re still not sold, we promise, guys look way hotter in dapper pinstripe suits than any other time, so if you’re out on the pull, it’s the place to score gents this Saturday night. (And if you don’t want a gent, there’ll probably be some of them too.)
