DivShare es una herramienta que permite alojar una serie de archivos (de imágenes, de música o de video) y genera códigos que nos permiten compartir la información en otras páginas (por ejemplo, en tu blog de WordPress).

El proceso es muy sencillo. Solo hay que sacar una cuenta, subir los archivos y copiar los códigos embed (que aparecen en la opción “Share”) en el panel HTML de WordPress, al momento de crear una entrada.

For the longest time, it seems like filecloud.com is one of the best online platform to store and share your files in the web. It’s not fussy and gives online users straight-up service.

On March 31, 2009 (April 1, 2009 for GMT +8), filecloud.com has ceased its service. Too bad because I really enjoyed filecloud.

Though as it may, they always say that when one door closes, another opens.

So, for filecloud fanatics, welcome DivShare.com!

He estado haciendo más pruebas con VodPod para ver si era posible publicar audio con alguno de los reproductores que hay en Internet. He hecho la prueba con DivShare.
Se puede publicar audio con igual facilidad a través de VodPod, sólo hay que tomar el código que te ofrece el reproductor  y cuando pinchamos en publicar con WordPress.com pegarlo en la ventana correspondiente. Al igual que para el vídeo escribimos el artículo, ponemos categorías, etiquetas y publicamos. Después tenemos que tocar el código que introduce para adecuar el tamaño del reproductor que publica. Normalmente pone un reproductor con las siguientes dimensiones 425×350 px, que en el código se ve así:

• vodpod id=ExternalVideo.482584&w=425&h=350&fv=.

• Cambiamos el tamaño, en DivShare le puesto 29 px en vez de 350.

Como veis en el ejemplo siguiente tenemos un nuevo recurso que añadir a WordPress que nos abre nuevas posibilidades de publicación de audio.

El audio de DivShare publicado con el botón de VodPod para WordPress. Hay que tocar el código reduciendo el alto del reprodcutor, yo lo he dejado en 29 px en vez de los 350 que trae. El código queda así vodpod id=Groupvideo.951426&w=425&h=29&fv=

Once upon a a time, DivShare was my favorite file sharing service. The company offered unlimited storage space and unlimited downloads, and tools that let you embed uploaded audio, video, and image files on any web page. But last year the company bowed to the inevitable and realized that unlimited free storage is a tough business model to maintain, and implemented a 5GB storage limit and 50GB bandwidth cap on free accounts.

Now that bandwidth cap is even lower, at just 10GB. Paid account holders can get up to 50GB of storage space and 500GB of bandwidth per month. And according to TechCrunch, the company is actually turning a profit. The company was put up for sale last year, and after a pretty long period on the auction block, DivShare was recently purchased by a company called 3Sixty. So it looks like DivShare isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

There are plenty of other services out there that offer 5GB or more of free storage space. But if you just need a quick and easy to use service that will let you host media files, DivShare is certainly worth checking out.

When we reviewed file-sharing service DivShare way back in October 2007, we were mildly impressed with its one-stop solution for storing, managing and sharing files. A month later, the service was put up for sale on an auction site which prompted us to deadpool it.

Fast-forward to January 2009, when the small startup behind DivShare was finally picked up by a group of internet veterans who started a new company called 3Sixty and aim to not only continue the service but also add some bells and whistles to it in the near future. The reason it took so long for DivShare to be acquired, so I was told, was because the service was doing well and making money and the owners just wanted to make sure it fell into the right hands and not sell it off to quickly and see it fade.

As everyone knows, online file storing and sharing services are a dime a dozen, but DivShare boasts over a million registered users and – gasp – profitability (it helps when you haven’t take a dime in VC funding, of course). I tested the service and while it was not special in any way you look at it, it did work as advertised and you get a decent amount of storage (5 GB) for free. The company is apparently also very serious about not hosting anything but legitimate material on their servers. Annoyingly, a free account means that when you upload a file, it displays on a page filled with blatant in-your-face advertising units and pop-up ads, so that’s definitely a big turn-off. That said, the price for an ad-free service is reasonable and the company is re-evaluating how it displays advertising at the moment.

DivShare also has some nice features like an iPhone application to access your files, a Facebook application for easy sharing on the social network, a WordPress plugin that replaces your regular uploading form with one from DivShare and an extensive API. You can find out more about that here.

Interestingly, the people behind 3Sixty (who used to work for companies like Netscape, Roku, Verizon Wireless, AT&T, PSINet, Sybase, etc.) tell me that the acquisition of DivShare is just one of the steps in the direction they want to take their company, and that they’ve got some really exciting integrated internet communication services in the pipeline. Unfortunately, that’s about all they shared for the moment so we’ll just have to wait and see how that translates in practice.

In any case, DivShare is no longer tagged ‘deadpool’ and you should try it out.

Technology saved me, today. Last night I was out collecting audio for a story I had to write for my Convergence Journalism class, and I made a fatal mistake:  I didn’t monitor my recordings. It’s a rookie mistake, and though I’d like to say I have no idea how it happened, I do. I was cocky. I assumed all my connections were good, my levels were high, and my mic placement perfect.

I don’t know if it was a lesson inflicted upon me by the gods who were tired of my arrogance, but over half of my recordings were either (almost) indecipherable or they didn’t record at all. It’s a tricky balance– in an interview, I find that people are more often at ease when my headphones are off, but wearing them at the time of the recording is the only way to guarantee that I’ve captured the audio on tape. In two cases, I left them off because I was overly confident, and in the other, because the woman looked nervous.

My audio equipment, though capable of producing great sound, is a little funny. I use a video camera as the tape deck, and a hand-held or shotgun mic , which is plugged into it. Since DV (the digital video format) records audio at 1511 kbps, it’s even better quality than CDs, so the recordings sound absolutely fantastic… When it works. (By comparison, most mp3 files come in around 128 kbps, so the quality is more than ten times higher.)

The converter cables I have to use to hook up the shotgun mic to the camera make for a tight fit, since the camera is rather compact and doesn’t have very secure connections. Therefore, if I don’t make sure the cable is really squeezed in there, it can come loose, and the audio won’t record. That’s what happened in two of my interviews, and the result was that the captured audio sounded like this:

As you can tell, it’s garbage. Even if you crank the volume, you can hardly hear anything.Luckily, due to the magic that is digital audio processing, I was able to recover most of the audio. It sounds a little like it was on AM radio, but it’s at least reasonably understandable now:

If I spent more time on it, I’m sure I could make it even better. Isn’t technology grand? The other recording was completely un-salvagable– I’d forgotten to press record. Even Soundtrack can’t fix that stupid of an error.

Speaking of digital audio, here’s some of a more melodic variety.

This first track features a familiar vocal track, but with a fun twist to the accompaniment.

Continuing the fun theme is this second track. It’s a pretty straight A vs. B, but it stays fresh throughout.

This final track is a fun one too. The chorus may raise an eyebrow, but that usually happens with this style of mash-up.

Hi guys,

Here are some rantings of DivShare again. Yes. My love-hate relationship with DivShare. Anyways, short story is: I used my up 10GB download quota for February so all of my links are dead until 25th of Feb. Yep.

The good news is I have more books to share but the links will be dead until my download refreshes. I’m thinking of going Pro on DivShare to revive my links again but DivShare only accepts eCheques from Paypal so whoopee. eCheques take around a week to clear and by then it will be almost half the month gone. Pretty soon after that, my download quota should have refreshed. What’s the point?

Hola a todos/as. Volvemos después del parón por “vacaciones”. Ha sido muy grato el haber recibido esos comentarios de apoyo y ánimos. Todos estamos muy ilusionados, y esperamos en la próxima reunión de redactores (la 2ª asamblea de redactores) que haya frutos abundantes.

Narra la existencia de un programa educativo de dudosa legalidad al que se ven sometidos cinco adolescentes conflictivos, con el consentimiento de sus padres, aunque ellos no conocen el alcance de las medidas que se toman para “reeducarlos”. Podrá resultar dura, pero nos podemos dar cuenta de que tipo de personas habitan en el mundo.
