I was amazed when I told some people about my ‘big idea’ and they didn’t even know what the hell I was talking about! Some people call it the Electric Slide so you get a little leeway, but C’mon son! Watch it being done here:

But, to my knowledge (and Google’s) no one has ever done it at a party on record. So, me being me, I contacted Guinness Book Of World Records and they told me that it’s a viable record to set. They’re processing the application now and we will be filming it for their review.

The ‘Candy Dance’ is usually done to the song ‘Candy’ by Cameo in 1986. Song is OLD son, but never seems to get old. It’s part of our history and seems like it will be current forever. If you haven’t seen the video before or didn’t even know it had a video, watch this:

A good place for me to start with my examples of 3′s are all the excellent shows I went to over the last month.

They were:

• Mary J. Blige at The O2 Arena, Greenwich on Wednesday November 2nd
• Tarrus Riley at The O2 Academy, Sheperd’s Bush on Monday November 8th
• Ryan Leslie at Fabric Nightclub, Shoreditch on Monday November 15th

I only went to 2 out of 3 for free though lol. Mary J Blige was courtesy of Joanna Abeyie. A very good show with energy and raw talent. Mary has still got it and I would still marry her. She put 110% into every song. Top ratings! One thing I forget sometimes is how many people know about these artists, especially when you see the variety of ages and races. The whole arena was full and singing along. Wicked!

Tarrus Riley was courtesy of O2 as tickets were totally free if you had an O2 phone and a text code. I had neither so I got my friend to text in and forward it to me. Right up to getting through the door I couldn’t believe it, thought it was too good to be true and didn’t think I was going to get in! But, I did and it was sick! Tarrus had a lot of personality and tore it down! I didn’t even know most of his songs can’t lie, but you still get drawn in. The show is part of the ‘Your Country Live’ series by O2 and I was even lucky enough to see David Rodigan live for the first time ever. He is a legend amonst many Jamaicans and reggae fans. Watching him DJ & host is like a concert in itself. He is a very intelligent and talented nutcase lol. I can’t believe the whole show was free for everyone, well worth good money. Thank you O2!

Last, but not least is Ryan Leslie who probably put on the best show in terms of intimacy with the fans, pure passion and hard work! He just did not want to go home! lol. He was on stage singing, rapping, dancing, playing instruments, kissing girls, and whatever else you can imagine him doing. This guy is a young legend and needs a lot more credit than he currently gets. If you don’t know much about him currently, please do yourself a afavour and check out his wor. He has written and produced for so may of your favourite artists.

Anyway, I managed to get 3 rubbish pictures, don’t ask why the quality is so bad it was taken on my Blackberry I don’t think it can handle all the different lights lol.

Sometimes people in London (a first world country) like to complain about this and that, but Jamaicans have always shown strength, courage, initiative and creativity that most people envy. PS I also have to thank Jamaica for most of my DJ career as Reggae & Dancehall music has been one of the top 5 music genres on road, in raves & on radio for the last 20 years or so for sure!

Yeah, me neither lol.

Just jokin of course, I don’t even have to go and talk to my dad and uncles about this bit of ‘old school’ equipment, because in my lifetime I have seen a major transformation. From a DJs perspective we have seen a rapid change to way we play music. In less than 20 years (I’m 23 btw) we have had gone from belt-drive to direct drive then CDs, then mp3s on virtual dj (some even used the Ipod), then Serato/Traktor etc and now this!

Are they taking the piss? This is crazy… Anyone can be a DJ now, LITERALLY, the game is over! lol. The vinyl, CD & possibly laptop is dead now. With this thing we can mix with one hand and hold a drink, maybe even a girl, with the other! Woohoo! lol

I’m going to get my hands on one very soon and do a review, but for now read about this magic piece of machinery right here.

Wow! It has been over a month since the launch of Cosy, and over a month since I said I would review it! This must be a record for late reviews; and what makes it even worse is the next one is today! Apologies to anyone who reads this blog (it has been neglected) and apologies to the event organisers: The Cosy Team I have been extreeemely busy. No lies fam! Lol. However, the good thing about this is that time is of the essence and I can’t really waffle on like I usually do, so let’s crack on!

So…what is Cosy? It is the monthly live entertainment show that offers the ideal environment to relax, chill out and enjoy first class live entertainment (taken from www.cosyshow.com). There has been a wave of live events & talent showcases etc in London over the past 6 months. Everyone seems to be doing them now, literally! Cosy could have been just another stone in the pool, but it definitely stands out as something slightly different to me.

An online definition of the word ‘Cosy’ is: “enjoying or affording comforting warmth and shelter especially in a small space.” I couldn’t put it any better myself because as soon as you walk into the sexy little intimate venue 1920 (Nineteen Twenty; not One Thousand Nine Hundred and Twenty lol) you get the feeling of warmth and a friendly atmosphere for sure with a good mix of age and race in the audience. The team all wear t-shirts with the Cosy logo on it, which is the ‘ROTFL’ smiley face that you will be familiar with if you have a Blackberry, and are all courteous on entry. Structured around comedy, music and poetry Cosy has comedian Axel The Entertainer hosting quite comfortably and DJ Semo playing some sick intro, halfway and outro songs to keep you entertained before and after the performances.

Last month’s acts were Jodi Ann Bickley, Lovelle Hill, Caspian’s, Katerina Vran, Prince Abdi as well as special guest comedian alllll the way from America: Will.E.Robo (read more about the acts here). I heard that he might come beforehand, but there’s always that slight incline of doubt like “Kmt. He isn’t really coming…” or “How they gonna get him?” etc lol. But they did get him and he did indeed show and prove.

I might be slightly biased as I’m a big comedy fan, but Will.E.Robo & Prince Abdi were definitely my favourite acts of the night. Will E came on with that natural confidence and swag that seems common amongst American performers, with the attitude that he wasn’t there to be an entertainer, but there to be entertained. He even asked the host to introduce him again, the DJ to play a different entrance song and the crowd cheer louder than they did before or he would tell ‘bad jokes’ not his ‘good ones’ when he felt like he didn’t get the introduction and reception that he deserved.. He wanted to be respected and appreciated and he made sure everyone knew about it; a natural comedy genius and connoisseur and he has my approval for sure. If you haven’t ever heard of Diddy’s Bad Boy of comedy (cos surprisingly some people still haven’t) or witnessed his sexual content or excellent imitations watch these:

He did a Star Wars and Saw joke that was too funny, I hope it was filmed cos I can’t even begin to explain what it was about; it was soo much joke I’ll be here all day trying to break it down then it wouldn’t be funny lol.

Prince Abdi is the self-proclaimed ‘only Anglo-Somalian comedian’ who has featured on Comedy Central and done shows up and down the UK. He is big, and mad talented! His controversial Somalian & Muslim jokes are just too funny, some even weird random and slightly schizophrenic lol. He spoke about Brixton, ‘Yardies’ and suicide bombers. He has a unique personality and style and I highly rate him. Look at one of his performances here:

Tonight features poetry Amber (Phresh Mentality), music by Jada Pearl & Ed Sheeran and comedy by international comedians; Jag from Canada and well-known Tony Paleface Hendriks from Jamaica.

Tonight’s show also sees the launch of the open mic section with even more Krispy Kremes than last time! Oh, I didn’t even mention that before, how could I forget? Each table got their own box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts…I had one or two (or 10) myself even though I’m trying to watch my diet! Lool.

Before she came on Tenny Ten introduced himself to a brand new crowd that had possibly never heard of him before in London. After doing some research I today, I wondered why I haven’t heard of him before last night. It baffles me because he seems to have done a lot. Even though he is from Wolverhampton almost 150 miles from London he has been putting in some serious ground work all over the UK. He has toured with Chipmunk, Mr Hudson and Tinie Tempah and has been getting love all over from North to South.  Another interesting fact I found is: his mother was a backing vocalist for Culture Club and UB40 and his father a keyboard player for the rock band Thin Lizzy. So, it’s in the blood then…

He got my attention with the 3 songs that he performed; the most meaningful one was about his twin brother that is currently facing jail time, and he spoke about the differences between them and how much trouble he gives their mum before during and after the song. You can tell that music is life for Tenny Ten, not just entertainment. He seems to put 100% of his pride and passion into his performances as I could see from his performance on stage and you can see from this:

His other songs were more up tempo, party songs. He had a song called ”Swaggnificent ‘; I’m sure you can guess what that was about… Swagger on point, in check etc. His dressing style looked a little old school to me with one of those old Nike hats on and a shell type jacket, but no one said swagger had to be new lol. ‘Swaggnificent’ is actually his new single, which will be out on June 20^th. Tenny Ten aka 10Shot had loads of stage presence and he definitely did his thing. A stand out performer for sure who is one to watch out for a big stage near you very soon.

LoveIsALosingGame

It’s over a week now since I went along to see the 2^nd showing of ‘Love Is A Losing Game’ theatre production – personally invited by the playwright I might add (*cough* *cough*) – and it’s still very fresh in my mind. The first show was supposed to be the only, but the people wanted more and Talented & Young (www.talentedandyoung.co.uk) are simply supplying to demand.  It’s a good time to write this as I’ve recently been told that there will be a 3^rd show on Sunday May 9^th at The New Players Theatre and you can buy tickets right here >>>

So, why are people so interested by ‘Love Is A Losing Game’? Simple; because it was basically about sex, cheating and bad relationships (like an all black Eastenders, lol!) with everyone doomed to misery whether you’re single or not. Have you ever seen Chris Rock’s: ‘married and bored, single and lonely’ joke? Watch it here>>> Well, in ‘Love Is A Losing Game’ a relationship is far from boring; there is loads going on, and the connections between all the characters are far from simple.

Let me do this quickly: Symone (played by Babi Isako, who is also the playwrite), who most of us would call a ‘good girl’, is deeply in love, from a 6 year relationship, with Jay (played by Jean Louis Pascal) the ladies’ man who has fallen for Nicki Minaj look alike; Becky. Becky is good friends with curvaceous Alisha (played by Chanelle Arianne) the very annoying gold digger, who isn’t about anything apart from shoes, handbags and taking money from her man to buy them. Her man is: Nathan, a born again Christian who gives his girl his all, even his last penny (*cough* Wasteman *cough*). Sasha (played by Delia Donaldson aka Shakey Batty lol) is obsessed with Nathan, so much so that she hurts herself to be with him?! Wtf? This gets crazier…The very sexy Noreen (played by Vanessa Vanderpuye) is on a crash course from the point that we find out that she has given her boyfriend; Ty (played by Darren Oderinde) an STD after cheating on him.

Now, Ty is a very interesting character; a man like no other, some in the crowd said: “This guy ain’t from South”, well he definitely isn’t from North West either mate I tell ya! Wherever he is from, I haven’t met or seen him before, not in real life, this guy is just toooo forgiving and get’s walked all over until he is pushed to the edge by his good friend Dean (say no more). Dean (played by Aaron Fontaine) has one of the strongest characters throughout the play while he is chased around by, also annoying, Leah (played by Louise Wilshaw) who has found herself in a ‘jump – how high?’ situation. This is all, of course, until the end when tables turn a bit. Say no more.  Flippin’ hell that was long, and if you want to read the full story it’s here >>> lol

Is love really that bad? The play has no good examples of love, it’s all bad whether you love a lot, a little or not at all. Dam! Lol.

Sasha probably had the best lines, Symone and Ty break even on best moments and Dean definitely had the best composure. I say that because there were a few glitches that cannot be repeated, and probably won’t be seen again, and he continued without a flinch. This is the beauty (no homo lol) of a live show. The crowd were very close to the stage, very animated and extremely vocal about how they felt about certain situations but the actors were in their own world and proved themselves to be real pros; I can only imagine what they had to think about to keep it movin’.

There were plenty of classic and memorable moments, comedy, believable and unbelievable characters and PLENTY of swear words! This should have certificate 25 on it lol. The characters are extreme in every sense of the word, and although you may not know any of them personally I’m sure you can relate to certain traits in all of them (except Ty the wasteman (no cough needed)). The story of ’Love Is A Losing Game’ is quite unrealistic in the world of most people (I hope it is anyway), but it is definitely something that we can all relate to in some form. Above all, the overall message certainly hits your spot; be safe, use protection and definitely don’t sleep with any of your friends’ boyfriends or girlfriends or anyone else’s for that matter.

I didn’t know what to expect from ‘Love Is A Losing Game’, I went with an open mind; and apart from a few ‘rough edges’ we all enjoyed it and we would definitely watch it again. So, what I’m really trying to say, even though it’s taken me nearly 1000 words to say it, is: go and watch this play! 8/10

I am a big fan of his work already. The colours that he brings out in the photos as well as the effects he creates within the lens, resolution and overall quality are definitely something to admire and acknowledge if you are a fan of good photography like myself.

Most people including myself wrote him off as a gimmick, a joke and a ‘one-hit wonder’ and thought we would never see him in a new music video again. However, while everyone was busy doubting him he was busy trying to become an artist and a credible rapper…and you know what (and I can’t believe I’m saying this); he is actually not that far away now. He released the massive hits ‘Kiss Me Through The Phone’ & ‘Turn My Swag On’ last year which were in regular rotation in clubs across the world. And now we have a another massive banger. Not only is the beat very sick, but he has slightly improved his lyrical content and switches his flow on the last verse. He is going for it for sure! He is still nowhere near the best, let that be known, but I’m impressed. If he keeps this up I might actually become a Souljah Boy fan! loool. Jeez, who would have thought…?

Maybe the game aint dead? Maybe Superman Souljah Boy is here to save us all after all? What do you think? Comments and feedback welcome.

I spoke to one of the event organisers/promoters; Joseph (of ‘Bros-Inc promotions’) who said; “We have been running consistently for almost 4 years…every Sunday since May 2006!” With no large hype to live up to, except for providing a good night out before work on Monday it lived up to expectations.

The vibe was good, guests were friendly and music selection was definitely on point. I have heard about it for many years, but never been in, although I have DJ’ed at other Ruby-Lo nights several times. The atmosphere is fun and friendly full of mature professionals that know how to party. I heard songs from waaaaay back that most DJs definitely do not attempt to play, so shout to Mr. Fasida, as well as the up to date House & Hip Hop that everyone is in love with right now. I enjoyed my ‘night-off’ purely as a raver, without too many criticisms to make for once. You might see me there again this Sunday gettin’ my ‘grown man on’.

We were loving this one from the first time we heard it over at VNV Sounds headquarters. There is a buzz in the streets, clubs and on the radio that we haven’t experienced for awhile now. Everyone is going crazy, especially the MCs! There must be close to 20 freestyle remixes from some important UK artists including Princess Nyah, Afrikan Boy, Scorcher, Wiley and Sam Khan to name a few. They have all been very good, but with good always comes bad and there have been some very terrible attempts…atrocious in fact! lol

It was just the other day that my friend; Deeway was telling another friend of mine (who shall not be named) that she should talk less and stop demanding so much attention and entertainment when she is in our presence (at a party we were at). This was a joke of course (or was it?! lol), but one thing I remember him saying is: “If this was back in the 50′s and 60′s you wouldn’t be allowed to talk so much….this is why my Grandad’s relationship lasted so long, women knew their place” etc etc and things of this sort.  And a few days later look at what was sent directly to my gmail, maybe he was right?

The host: Ayobami Femi-Olatunji does this event independently with no investors, larger networks or corporate support. He does it just because he wants to help, and he has my full support.

It was another very inspiring evening with important words from Ayobami Femi-Olatunji and the big man Mr Tai Adeshugba (Pastor/Business Man/Director/Social Entrepreneur etc etc etc…the list goes on trust me…) I have heard him speak many times at previous ‘Purpose’ events and he never fails to impress. Not only that, but he always motivates, inspires and reveals fresh perspectives on life. He has seen a lot, most would agree than he is a man much wiser than his years.

Some of the things that I took away are:

• If you’re doing something that everyone is with you on, you’re not doing the right thing.
• ‘An Old African Saying’ (who remembers Matthew?! lol): “A hunter that is chasing an elephant does not stop to throw stones at the laughing birds”. Translation: You must have a goal without distractions, and not let anything take you away from that goal.
• If you have a dream, then you will have obstacles.
• You’re never too young to dream or too old not to dream.
• Sight is not as important vision – the blind man with a vision influences and leads the man without sight but no vision (he used examples of Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder).

…and last Saturday 6^th of February 2010 was no different. It was a special day for the Stormparties crew as they were not only celebrating several members’ birthdays including Cyrille (Mr Foxx) & Kwabena (Super K), but this year was the 4^th year running of the notorious brand ‘Fancy Dancy’ and it was the best one yet.

VNV Sounds have been there since ‘Fancy Dancy’ Part 1 and has seen what started as a small, almost silly idea for a birthday party turn into an event that is now renowned and recognised London wide.

The event is always held at various venues in south London including Balham and Wimbledon, but it has now been at Blend bar in Wandsworth for the second year in a row. Blend bar seemed to be the permanent home for the event, until the queue to get in proved otherwise. I arrived on the night a few hours before my set and saw a line of people like I have never seen at that venue (for any event) ever before! The queue was running a fair distance down the street and and bent slightly around the corner of the next road. Wow! That’s it now guys, you’ve really done it this time, maybe its time to move on?! Where next? I see Ministry of Sound! lol.

With some sick DJs and sets including another banger from myself, no hype lol, as well Live Linq, the full Stomparties crew, Coldsteps, Krazy Hype and others, the night went down a Storm! I have to rate Super K for taking everyone out of their comfort zone for a moment with his crazy song selections. He had everything in there from Backstreet Boys to Spice Girls, Oasis and Kings Of Leon. Some big tunes…but I can’t help but wonder what he and some of the other Stormparties members do when they are at home, hmmm…! lol

With lots of drinks and antics, the very drunk Stormparties crew still  managed to take some sick photos. I picked a few of favourites for you to see here:

Mary J. Blige - What's the 411?

I had a meeting with Journalist & PR Adenike Adenitire (http://twitter.com/Adenike1) today. She has recently launched a brand new website called: I miss the old school and it is absolutely sick! My favourite section of the website so far is seeing Alfonso Ribeiro (better known as Carlton from ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ in a Pepsi advert with Michael Jackson as little kid, and advertising a dance book for kids lol! I’m officially ‘old’ now because I never thought I would say it, but I do actually miss the old school. As I was saying to Adenike today; there is something about that time that we can’t seem to get back. There was a whole cultural package of films, music, dances, clothing, slang etc etc that is definitely missing today. Don’t get me wrong, I am definitely not one of those ‘stuck in the 80s/90s’ people as I always tend to look forward more than I look back, but nothing can compete with this…

My friends often end up having ‘back in the day’ conversations, and this could be anything from Michael Jackson & James Brown, to CB40 & Friday, or Thundercats & X-Men, not forgetting R.Kelly & Bobby Brown…and since I’ve started I might as well mention Reebok Workouts, LA Lights, air bubbles, Michael Jordan, Kid n Play, Captain Planet, Super Ninento, Master System, Gameboy, Sonic The Hedgehog, Ninja Man, Shabba Ranks, Yellow man, Jodeci, The original Puff Daddy and Mase etc etc…the list goes on!

It’s like everyone knows that there is something missing that we just can’t get back!  You know what I mean right?

Why did Adenike and I meet today then? Because we’re trying to Bring The Old Skool back (again lol), literally. At some point this year we will be doing one, two or even a series of events, but with a twist. The events might not even be that complex, but I would definitely like to try my hardest to make everyone lose their inhibitions and party like this:
