dj sets zum download gibt es wie sand am meer. alleine auf deepmix.ru kann man hunderte stunden musik herunterladen! nachdem ich mich durch sehr viel durchgehört habe möchte ich auf zwei sets hinweisen die mir ganz gut gefallen:

das erste ist ein schön aufgebautes mini house / deep / techhouse set (…), tracks mit langen flächensounds wechseln sich mit knackigen minimal nummern ab, ein schöner break teil ist drin rund um minute 30, ab dann ist das ganze ein schönes tanz-zuhause-set, düster technoid passt es zur finsteren winter stimmung!

das set hört auf den titel pushkarev – cotton studio: topeng [2009] (88 Mb)

zweiteres ist ein schönes chillout / downtempo set, für gemütliches beisammensein und ideal zum abschalten – leider wurde es offline genommen seh ich grad… aber die links gehen dann und wann wiedermal bei deepmix.ru, hier wäre er: http://deepmix.ru/selected/www.deepmix.ru%20-%20cotton_gorje_hewek_zapiskki.mp3

im übrigen bin ich der meinung das zuviele menschen deepmix.ru hören, der stream zickt in letzter zeit öfter …

Mit dem Baile-Funk ist es fast wie in der Ricola-Werbung. „Wer hat’s erfunden?“ Natürlich nicht Daniel Haaksman – aber er war es, der diesen explosiven bootyschwingenden-Sound aus den Favelas Rio de Janeiros in europäische Clubs gebracht hat. „Ich war begeistert, von der unglaublichen Power, die dahinter steckte.“, erinnert er sich. Und prognostizierte, dass die Musik auch hierzulande verstanden werden würde. Dem ist tatsächlich so – das belegen allein seine schweißtreibenden DJ-Sets und der Erfolg seines Labels Man-Recordings, auf dem neben den Crookers auch DJ Beware oder The Count and Sinden ihre Musik veröffentlichen.
Wenn Daniel Haaksman also nicht gerade produziert oder sich um sein Label kümmert, reist er um die ganze Welt um Partyvölker mit seinem Sound zu beeindrucken, so kombiniert er in seinen Sets gekonnt Baile Funk, House, Electro, Baltimore Club, Kuduro oder Dancehall ohne jegliche Skrupel, den der DJ kennt nur ein Gesetz: Er muss den Club zum beben bringen.

1) cats from Rubulad are now spinning big deal afterparties. That means that somewhat to very glitchy (jazzified ass-shaking electronic dance music) is perhaps making its way into the mainstream? Think Prefuse-73 or Flying Lotus with video hoes. I don’t speak French.

2) one of the aforementioned DJs runs this episodic party called WARPER! and they’ve been doing it for 3 years. I’m talking about DJ/occasional cover girl (for DJing) Shakey! So basically:

You feel me? A DIY, Free, Dope,  volunteer-run, dance party for electronic music. ..that’s HUGE. Flexible institutions, get me? I love house parties, and crazo illegal warehouse raves for a buck in some asbestos building too (especially when my homies get paid for their labor and spin more than 30 minutes) but there are some sick alternatives too, I wish stuff like this was in every spot where people have heard Cher’s “Believe”.

On November 5th I was invited to cater a really cool event. Delicious Vinyl celebrated the release of  their new Delicious Vinyl DJ app for iPhone.

The event was at Freak City, an ART MUSIC STYLE gallery with hybrid retail space. Its located on Sunset Strip right below the Delicious Vinyl headquarters.

So anyways, back to the story at hand, Perfection is perfected, so I’ma let ‘em understand from a young BUGG’s perspective that I was there to cater the Delicious Vinyl DJ premier event. I wanted to make finger foods, things people could eat and enjoy while dressed to the 9’s without losing any sexy. Here are some flicks from the night.

Last thursday we went to Mas Exitos to celebrate the birthday of Carlitos Diaz, one of the drummers from Buyepongo. The band (Buyepongo) decided to do a surprise performance for the Mas Exitos crowd to celebrate. Dj’s Lengua, Ganas, Enorbito, Chico Sonido & Hoseh started Mas Exitos in June of 08 at Verdugo Bar. The venue is dope and the music vibe even fresher. Mas Exitos is a bi-weekly event that traces the connections between the music made on both continents of the Americas by exploring the various migration patterns through sound. Think of it as a National Geographic documentary on sound that will take you from the Andes of Peru to the East Side of LA. From fuzzy cumbias, to funky jazz oddities, to disco azteca, rock n’ rolleras, paisadelic, psychedelic freak outs and janky electro beats…

The first foray into controllerism from Native Instruments is a Hot Cue/Effects manipulator which is designed for use with the Traktor family of DJ software. In my opinion I can’t see why a user wouldn’t map these functions to the keyboard in first place, thus saving themselves the £200 asking price of the unit, but clearly Native Intruments feel that people prefer knobs and buttons over keys and trackpad;). The controller is expected to ship early next year to Europe and the US.

im aktuellen debug magazin wurde der online store von whatpeopleplay.com vorgestellt, und nach meiner ersten einkaufserfahrung dort möchte ich den unbedingt weiterempfehlen.

die liste an dingen die mir bspw. gegenüber beatport.com weit besser gefallen, sind

• tracks komplett vorhören anstatt nur einem ausschnitt (was wirklich wichtig ist bei langen tracks)
• umsetzung in HTML, nur für das vorhören wird das flash plugin gebraucht, aber der store funktioniert ohne plugin
• download all in 1 zip file. das geht bei beatport nur nach der installation eines eigenden downloader tools (!)
• layout der seite, aufbau, farbgestaltung…

was ich noch nicht bewerten kann sind die community funktionen rundherum, hab mich auch erst letzte woche angemeldet. jedenfalls gibts die möglichkeit releases zu kommentieren, ein podcast wird angeboten, und das ganze wirkt redaktionell gut gepflegt.

whatpeopleplay.com hat genau die funktionen anders und besser umgesetzt als ich sie bei anderen online stores immer als schlecht oder fehlend empfunden habe.

I don’t have the radio in my car, I need a certain cable or something silly like that I’m thinking how about I get a car, of which I have a number (at my disposal). Get the old turntables out the garage and hook up the first in car kitty DJ.

WTF?! Why do I keep doing this electro type music for? I guess it’s because its fun to mix. I feel like I’m going on a journey when I mix electro tracks. I like finding those transitions that just sound perfect together and let them ride for a good 32, 64, or more bars sometimes.

Yeah, I don’t really listen to electro by my own powers but I love it in the club when the bass is hittin’ and the DJs are killin’ it. I sift through a shitload of it too when I am listening to music blogs. At that point, I just get into a “this works, this doesn’t work” mode as I pick songs that I could potentially use in a mix. I never really look for it though. I never search the artists. My trusted blogs, which I probably follow for hip hop, downtempo, bmore, indie, and so on, just seem to love electro as well, so its right in my face. Being the thorough person that I am, I got to listen to all the tracks that the blog is offering up, if I trust the blog. So you see, electro is always in my face, I will always be previewing and downloading tracks, and eventually making more electro mixes. Just hope somebody out there appreciates my work. I do appreciate mixing electro though, because it brings out a lot of my musical creativity that can’t be seen when I am mixing hip hop. Thank you electro, for bombarding me with your hits.

So I bought two CDJ-1000mk3’s and a Numark X9 mixer not long ago, signed up to Beatport and downloaded a few tracks off there and iTunes. Right now I’m just practicing beatmatching between songs, not doing anything fancy. I’d like to eventually make a DJ identity for myself and play in clubs, that is if I ever become good enough.

I’ve developed a love for Daft Punk too lately, Alive 2007 is one of the most amazing albums to listen to. Every track on it I love. Apparently they’re coming out to Melbourne in August next year, I am so there!

I’ve been going to the gym every second day as well for personal training sessions. I got to a point a few months ago where I was like “I don’t want to be fat anymore” I had really grown a belly. This was the photo that triggered it:

When I first weighed myself I was 87kg, now I’m 78kg. It just sucks right now because I’m working my ass off at the gym every second day and I still have a minor belly which doesn’t seem to be going down… I’m not going to give up though!

Tomorrow I’ll be starting nightshifts (7pm-3am) at work till Sunday, I don’t mind them here and there but three weeks of them which I had to endure recently was a killer.
