My final ‘Yes Please Faster’ before I leave these shores. We played at a new venue (Video Visions in Dalston) in the first of what are scheduled to be quarterly parties under the moniker – YESPLEASEFASTER presents NIGHTVISIONS. It was a good night although the leadup was a bit of a shambles after James had to pull out with flu and Will and I had to put last minute visuals together that in the end we couldn’t even use. Also, I was gutted when I noticed too late that all my new songs weren’t showing up in Virtual DJ, which meant I had to play a broadly similar set from last time out. Luckily for you though, you can now listen to what I would have played barring this technical fuckup. Keep up the good work fellas, I’ll be back… and don’t forget all I would charge for an appearance is an economy flight from NYC – a deal for the ages, that. It’s been emotionary…

Siempre me pasa que cuando presento un DJ set en algún bar o lugar en el que la gente pueda hablar con uno fácilmente, me preguntan qué es lo que estoy haciendo, que cómo hago lo que hago en vivo y algunas otras preguntas similares. Es muy gracioso, aunque a veces se vuelve molesto, cuando vas por el tercer mop en la noche que pregunta lo mismo. jaja. Acá un par de respuestas a las preguntas de siempre

Bueno, los DJs no solemos poner nuestra música, ni componer todo lo que ponemos en las fiestas, muy pocos de nosotros se dedican a hacer música, o sea a hacer una pieza completa para mezclarla en la “cabina” (o “booth”). Los DJs, normalmente, ponemos canciones de otra gente que son productores de música electrónica, los menos, ponemos las cosas que hacemos nosotros mismos, y esas canciones que hace uno mismo casi siempre son dos o tres de entre doscientas canciones que andamos en la “galeta” (folder de mp en la computadora o estuche lleno de CDs). Las canciones que ponemos, por lo general, están acabadas.

Otros también preguntan que cómo hace uno para que la música siga todo el tiempo, y que para qué carajo son los audífonos…

Las piezas se varían de velocidad suavemente hasta que van al mismo tempo y se van mezclando con diferentes mañas y técnicas. Los audífinos son para escuchar la pieza que va uno a meter a continuación sin que el público la escuche en los parlantes del lugar, porque uno está haciendo cambios activamente y si el público oyera los despelotes que uno hace en los audífonos, pues se irían del lugar rápidamente

Creo que eso resuelve las preguntas que todo el mundo hace en las fiestas jaja.

So here is my DJ set from Yes Please Faster @ The Horse & Groom on 14/8/09. We enjoyed a pretty successful night. I wound Will up a bit by playing a couple of ‘his’ tracks and I think overall the set came out pretty good. I got positive feedback from Gordon, Will and Steve at least! Come and check us out next month on 9/10 and again at the brand new night at Visions in Dalston on 23/10.
