For Immediate Release:

Immortalized by the Back to the Future film franchise, and shrouded in urban mythology, DeLorean has recently seen a resurgence in mainstream culture, from Kanye West album covers to Kobe Bryant sneaker campaigns. The trademark gull wing doors, stainless steel exterior, and angular body have taken their place in automotive history, not only for the car’s signature design, but for the resulting controversy in founder John DeLorean’s drug trafficking charges and other legal and criminal troubles. As a result, DeLorean Motor Co. had an abbreviated life and only one car model made it off the assembly line. Rumored to be around 9,000 total produced and even less still in existence: The DMC-12.

If you’ve been tuned to our website, you might already be anticipating this special collection of T-shirts and baseball caps from The Hundreds. We teamed up with the DeLorean Motor Company exclusively to pay homage to an iconic automobile. Each T-shirt is a different take on DeLorean and DMC-12 from a The Hundreds perspective, mirroring various Southern California car culture tees, while still maintaining an appealing design for our customer and DMC enthusiast alike. The New Era baseball cap is also a salute to DMC’s aesthetic. The 3 Adam Bomb emblems are indicative of the 3 letters on the car’s grill, and the undervisor pattern is derived from the DMC-12’s familiar back taillights.

A DMC-12 will be on display outside our LA store this Thursday, and at our SF location this Friday and Saturday.

Available this Thursday at THLA and THSF.

So, you might have seen the news around the internets that Panasonic (The manufacturer of Technic Turntables) is ending production on the 1200 & 1210’s in February 2010.

My question is WHY?

I understand and realize lots of DJ’s have went “Digital” but seriously…. a real DJ uses every piece of arsenal they have and can find to enhance their performance/music/art. I personally support all the new digital equipment/software coming out and the ability to manipulate sounds on the fly, but I do NOT see them replacing my beloved 1200’s. I see the new breed of digital DJ software as additions to what I currently use. I prefer to incorporate new technology into my current setup to make me a stronger DJ and in return give the crowd a greater experience.

Don’t get me wrong… I understand the impact that Ableton Live has made with some DJ’s & especially Live acts, but why not add all this new technology along with your tables? It seems to me if you take away the tables (or CDJs), you are not really DJ’ing anymore. Anyone can auto mix using the muiltitude of DIY DJ software now available. A real DJ learned on vinyl.

I’ve read the press release about the partnership between Ableton & Serato. So what does that mean for Serato? Serato is controlled thru timecoded records or CD’s. Does this mean we are have to all start using CD’s?? What about the DMC Championships?

I am not sure how true or false this is I just know there’s more and more talk of it and it’s coming basically from down under. Let’s hope these rumors are false. My tone arms are crossed. I hope to update when more information is released.

26 NOVEMBER 2009.
It was a bittersweet experience traveling to school this week, knowing it’s the final week before we enter the real world. It’s not like I’m graduating tomorrow or something but it was the very last time I’m going to SP to attend normal lessons.

I kinda felt the pinch on Tuesday (24Nov), when I reached campus at 730am to prepare myself for PP CA2 interview. I doubt I ever gone to school that early alone before. The feeling was great. No crowds, no rush, no distractions, just me walking all by myself thinking, reflecting. I seldom take slow walks to School of Business.

While walking, I was thinking through the 3 years, people I’ve met, known, forgotten, don’t wanna remember. There were so many places in school where memories were created. That thought made me smile for a while.

Then as I looked up at the big red “I want I can @ SP” banner, I can’t help but to think of the friendships that were made and how it progressed. However, there were some memories, I really don’t wish to relive.

I guess, my experience in school was awesome. I didn’t regret taking the polytechnic route at all. It did open my eyes to the real world and how’s everything is in shades of grey.

I’ll miss you guys, lecturers, course mates and classmates.
I had fun.

So the last of #nct lectures was over.

Throughout the 6 weeks, Ms Kwa brought us on an adventure into Twitter, Google Wave, Google Docs, Facebook. We’ve realized about our subconscious use of Continuous Partial Attention, and felt the emergence of potentially more powerful information machines like Bing and Wolfram Alpha.

Today, we’ve all come to an end of everything. Let’s talk about the point of it all.

New Communication Technologies are an inevitable step we, the human race, will all take. The uncertainties we’ve felt about this change in the landscape of media are not unfounded. The rise in communication prowess of individual is a threat to professional communicators. Advertising, PR and Promotion are rapidly being commoditised.

What does it mean to us, the future communication professionals. Would we still have a Ogilvy/McCain/Saatchi&Saatchi to reside in? I’d love to think they’d still be able to be the big brothers.

When our generation replace the majority of consumers world, would traditional mass media still have the market share that they have today? Or would we be buying majority of media space from Google, Facebook, twitter, Bing and xiaxue.

There are countless uncertainties and almost-certainly, the entire landscape would have an overhaul. What these all mean to us, is that we have to continuously change our steps, be aware of the million changes to the world and communication.

What I’ve learned in year 1 and 2, seem to be very different from #nct. It’s scary, menacing, and yet, extremely exciting.

Following ms kwa words, I hope and want to be brave enough to be the first batch to venture the new frontiers despite all the threats and uncertainties. The world changes every second and so would I adapt. Speed, courage, awareness, creativity, openness and social-networking are the notes taken.

The point of it all?

Anticipate change and adapt new relevancy constantly.

Note: Special thanks to ms kwa for giving us one of the best modules in DMC.

If you have not seen or even heard of C2C I am here to brighten your day. If you have heard of them you will have your day brightened as I let you know that C2C will be releasing an album in 2010. When it comes to DJ shows a lot of time the showmanship just isn’t there, the beats, the hype, the girls and the dancing are all there, but these guys have brought showmanship back into a DJ show. The beats are sick, taking everything from blues and jazz, to Hip Hop, to ballroom, to Brazilian, to electronica, to rock and roll and flawlessly bringing them together in a way that just makes you want to get up and dance. No wonder these guys have won the DMC world team championships a record breaking 4 times 2003/2004/2005/2006. See DJ Pfel DJ Greem (Hocus Pocus), 20SYL and DJ Atom do their thing below. Also you can check out up to 11 of their tracks here, but seeing them perform is really part of the experience.

DMC 3B 04 – Class of 2009/2010

Hello once again!

For the past week, I had witnessed 5 other presentations other than mine being presented during our NCT class.
All I can say is that it really opened my eyes to the possibilities of the future.
Like…how the future of Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism, Books, Learning and Music will be like.

My group of course did The Future of Music Industry.
I’ll talk about that later.

For the future of advertising, my classmates, Trixia, Cassandra and Li Ting showed us this awesome video.
There’s a billboard in America I think which bleeds!
Freaky? It’s supposed to remind people about road accidents or something.
And guess what? That advertising campaign was a success!
So how it works is that when it rains and the billboard gets wet, red colour dye just flows out of it.(*I believe that’s how it works*)

Oh, and what’s the future of advertising you might be wondering? Well, how about being able to touch, taste, smell, (*and what other senses are there again..*)..?
If you think about it, it might just be possible. Except I don’t see how you can actually taste something before buying it. Oh wait a minute, you can…in the form of sampling.

I think what might possibly happen is customised advertising. Like those you see in Minority Report. Where the ad will just call out to you by your name. But I think it’ll be really noisy. I don’t know.

This post is going to be really long if I start judging everybody’s presentation. So I shall just pick out a few.

The future of Journalism. An interesting point that was raised was regarding Citizen Journalism which I find to be quite interesting. It basically means normal people like you and me giving your own story which I think is something that we do best and requires no formal degree whatsoever.

When I really think about it, what if one day people don’t really need to get news from journalists?
I think one day, you might have like a chip inside you which works like RSS feeds.
You’ll just get news inside you.
Weird but yeah.

The following day, Friday, it was the remaining 3 groups to present on the future of everything else.
First we had The Future of Books.
Well, in summary, real physical books might be replaced by e-books.
Oh, and while the group (William, Shawn, Kevin and Matthew) was presenting, we had interesting tweets.
A few people confessed how much they like the smell of books including me!
I thought I was the only weird one.
So yeah, I think that’s something an e-book can never have.
But then again, I’m not much of a reader.

And now let me talk about my group’s presentation which was on The Future of Music Industry.
I thought it went pretty well.
Except that we might have messed up on our Q & A.
But nonetheless, I thought the researching part really gave me a lot of ideas of what’s going to happen in the future.
It’s sad that CDs might just disappear.
I mean, I love CDs.
I love to smell it (ok..I am OFFICIALLY weird), feel the sleeve and then put it back in its plastic packaging.

I remember I once talked about music during my Sec 3 oral exam.
I said when I listen to a song, I would imagine the artist singing it to me especially when I purchase the album.
It’s like a sense of satisfaction. Something that digital downloads can never do. Oh well, I spoke too soon.

I also came across tips on what an artist should do to survive the future of music industry.
I think it’s brilliant.
I should sign up for MySpace and put my music out there.
And who knows, I might be the next Colbie Caillat. (*or not*)

Ms Kwa made every group get their photo taken after each presentation.
And before we leave, we took a class photo which you see above.
This might be my last NCT post.

Oh, and in the final class this Thursday, I will be having my individual presentation.
Final day of school, final presentation.
It’s gonna be a day of final-ise everything.

Alright then.

Before I end the post, I will like to say that if you want to be an artist, don’t wait for popularity contests. Do it ONLINE.
Try MySpace, YouTube..oh, oh..SellaBand is cool.
Google them.
Lets not be lazy.

Till next time!

Wally Khun Cyrus

signing off.

Last Thursday we had to attend a compulsory Career Day talk after school.
Our senior, Alvin, spoke about his internship with an advertising company before we were split into smaller groups- Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism, TV Production and Events.

Jov and I went for Advertising and our guest speaker was Mr Addison James, Joint CEO (Asia Pacific) of Lloyd Northover Yeang Pte Ltd. Basically, he told us straight on what advertising is about.

Here are what I have learned from his talk, if you are interested in this field:

Different roles: Suit, Planner and Creative

Suit- Client servicing. What most of us might be doing if we were to join this industry

Planner- Are normally those who’d worked for many years in this industry and have gained lots of life experiences

Creative- All about ideas. Usually those who come from art colleges. If you run out of ideas or your ideas are not chosen, you might be kicked out.

Advertising is about persuasion, not necessary truth

A good CV is important if you want to apply for this job

You need to be able to commit to deadlines. If you think you can’t, don’t bother agreeing in the first place as it would only make it worse if you cannot meet it

Lie: Advertising is shrinking

Lie: Advertising must suit client/be boring

Lie: Suits carry bags

Lie: Creatives must win awards

Advertising is about communication, not arts

It’s fascinating to know what the advertising people think and what they expect of their interns.

After the session, we went back to the lecture theater and listened to a talk by someone from Aquent regarding the jobs trend and the market now. Very business-y.

It would have been great if we could learn more about the other industries as well.
For journalism (Guest speaker from SPH!), they received this piece of paper with useful information which i find intriguing:

I’m thinking of pursuing Journalism (tabloid), Advertising (suit/creative), Social media or Events.
Any tips out there?

An Argument would Fall Flat

Traditional books will undeniably be replaced by eBooks.

Traditional books are environmentally unfriendly. Millions of trees are chopped for publishing. Such books are also resource-inefficient in distribution to the masses, and the less mainstream books may not be easily accessible. It is also tough to manually search information in books for scholarly research.

Even if habits are hard to change, technology can force the change in us, by the global need for higher efficiency. Afterall, this is the era of Google. Where information are getting googalized for instantaneous information retrieval.

The Digitization of Traditional Books

In secret locations and using secret methods, human beings are scanning lots and lots of books for Google. About 10 million books is digitized per year. The total number of eBooks in existence is estimated to be 65m. And other than Google, Amazon has been scanning large volume of books, as have Microsoft and Yahoo!

With the increase in supply and demand, 3,000,000 eBooks are downloaded every single month.

The 4 Trends of eBooks

#1 Unbundling. One fine example would be the iPods. Think how have iPods unbundled music albums (people now download only the most popular tracks out of the whole album), revolutionized the landscape of music industry, and almost-totally wiped out CD players. Will traditional books be eventually unbundled, with people only reading the most interesting chapters, for the benefit of time-efficiency?

#2 Wikipedia, which is free, collaborative and online, has eaten into sales of paper-bound alternatives. So books that people would not traditionally read in their entirety, or that require frequent updating, are likely to migrate online and perhaps to cease being books at all. Telephone directories and dictionaries, and probably cookbooks and textbooks, will all fall into this category.

#3 Interlinking of books. What if books are interlinked? Just like hyperlinks on a webpage, we may be jumping from books to books to books, instead of just sticking to reading one. We would then be exposed to a much larger amount of books than we would previously be. And this will raise a fundamental question of, what would then define a book when book is no longer book-like.

#4 Greater ease to publish your works online. Without the need for a publisher, you can publish your books on your own, online for a very low cost. One fine example would be stephietan’s magazine, Manifesto. By this publishing option, printing and middle-man cost is effectively reduced to zero. Link: http://issuu.com/ilovefashionation/docs/manifesto_issue_1

However, in future traditional books will still exist in small volume, due to habits, physical need for the feel of books, and the pride of owning one (think souvenir). Even though many of us would still prefer reading on solid physical books, eBooks is definitely the next step for human race – the coming together of information in digital form for instantaneous Storing, Searching, Retrieval and Sharing.

Hello world.

It’s definitely been a grueling 5 weeks of school. It did start out at a slow pace but as various projects accumulated over the weeks to the final one, things DID become and ARE very hectic.

This final semester in DMC has taught me alot of things. I’ll leave my emotional growth for those who are really interested (ask!) because the purpose of this blog isn’t to act as a rant-dom. But, a dedication to a very important and practical module, New Communication Technologies (NCT). Let’s welcome this topic with open arms once again. Every week we’d familiarise ourselves with at least 2 new topics (I’d cover that in a later post) but one thing that I have gathered from the majority of the presentations is that:

Social media connects, displays, stays and affects.

The other day, due to sheer boredom and procrastination of schoolwork, (haha) I decided to revisit my ancient blog that I devotedly updated every day when i was about 15/16. I was greeted with horrifying instances of libel on ‘bitches’ I couldn’t stand in school. Constant flaming of the academia realm and very very unflattering pictures of my classmates and I. Oh the embarrassment. The worse part? After making the site private, Google still indexed the blog url in its search results. I curse archiving! Base on my understanding of how the search engine ranks the result list, I’d have to bug my ex-classmates to revive their also ancient blogs to remove their link to mine.

Moving on, but still in relation.

I’m not a basketball fan and that means I don’t scour the NBA’s site for latest news on their players. But not long ago this year, a basketball player named Michael Beasley made the headlines. Not because of a fantastic winning 3 pointer but because of this seemingly innocent picture he posted on Twitter via Twitpic:

Picture taken from sportybrooks.com

Yes, we can tell that his threshold for pain is really high and he has a self-esteem to compliment it. And that the inscription almost reads like ‘Super Cool Beans’. Should have converted more people into Beasley evangelists right?

But no it didn’t.

Let me direct you to the bottom right hand corner of the picture. See the small blurry packet of ‘herbs’ that suspiciously looks like marijuana? Fans picked up on that and it wasn’t long before huge controversies and an uproar inevitably ensued.

Beasley was fined $50,000.

Companies should really tighten their rules on social media sites.

There was a particular incident with a K-pop singer who made a defamatory comment about the country he was living in on Myspace 4 years ago. Netizens managed to resurface that comment and that also ensued a huge uproar which led him to stay in the shadows away from the music industry for the time being. Or not.

The consequential reach of a tactless post is so huge. It scares me. I’ve since learnt to think twice before tweeting or posting anything that may be interpreted as controversial.

There is close to no anonymity on the world wide web. And if you happen to chance upon a social media/google guru and offend him/her…

All the best in your coming years.

p.s (To those who are too free and decide to search for my blog, I’ve already cleaned it up enough to hide things from us minions haha.)

As we get set to post yet another Skully video (this time making fun of Pilot c0-creator, Billy Concannon) we thought we’d take a second to give you an inside look at how we make these simple videos. First, Pilot illustrator Greg Titus sculpted our hero Skully out of a block of clay….

Skully Before

Skully After

Then we take a still photo of him and hand it over to graphic designer Matt Arnold. With his mad photoshop skills, he gives the still clay photo more of a “bone look”

Skully Blue Screen

Next media schmoe, me (Dennis Carroll) will take 10-15 minutes and write a script then do the voice over. Then I’ll animate the facial and body movements using a series of programs including Adobe After Effects and Premier Pro. Depending on the script, I may jump on google images and grab a couple props, characters, whatever. Sometimes Skully seeks the assistance of one of his henchmen, the deadly Pilot Logo Attack Ninja’s. These guys are just the Pilot logo and we do a page curl effect on the corners. Sometimes we add a mouth for more expressiveness.

Pilot Logo

That’s pretty much it. New video coming soon. Until then, “Viva La Bamba!”

Anginae signed the divorce petition Monday. We have decided to hold off on filing it until after the

Anginae signed the divorce petition Monday. We have decided to hold off on filing it until after the holidays are over but the decision has been made. We are not waiting because we are not ready but more because we don’t want to have to put up with telling everybody right now.

Anginae says that Monday was one of the happiest days she has had in a while. Knowing that put a smile on my face. The last two years together have not been difficult. Sure there have been some stressful times as we learned to cope with this, but now there is some closure to all of this. What would be the outcome of our marriage was always something there hanging over us. Now that we have come to this decision we can now more easily move forward. Sure there are going to be some sad and difficult moments ahead but we are not losing each other. This is just another step in the transformation of our relationship.

I’ll be honest. I am scared. This decision is going to cause many things to happen. First off will be telling my mom and stepdad. They are our only hope of parental support in all this. Anginae told her parents about the divorce an they are pissed to say the least. If they knew the full reason why it would be even worse. I of course don’t have my father to go to (and don’t want to) so I’m going to putting a lot of pressure on my mom to help us through this. I can’t help but feel she owes me this. There is working out the whole financial and living situation. Anginae is looking for more work and I will give her all the support I can. I think after the first of the year I will also start looking for a small place of my own closer to work. I’m conflicted as to whether to disclose to my boss why I am getting divorced. I know it seems like none of his business but it is a small company and I’d rather come clean instead of him somehow finding out. Finally there is a matter of my boyfriend. I like DMc a lot but I’m not sure he is up to the task of being with me right now. I don’t want to end it with him but I need a boyfriend that can be a support to me in all this. All I can do is hope he shares some of the same feelings I have for him, but if not I may have to make the tough decision and move on.

So this is it I guess. We are starting another chapter in our lives; one that I still can’t believe is happening. It is a mixture of many emotions ranging from sadness to excitement. The best part though is I will still have her in my life. I’m not losing her we are just settling into a different type of relationship. Despite how hard this is going to be, that thought alone makes a world of difference.

Hello everyone, To start off this post, I would like to make an apology to my dear lecturer, Ms Kwa

Hello everyone,

To start off this post, I would like to make an apology to my dear lecturer, Ms Kwa for attending her lecture late this week.
Sitting at the bottom few rows in the lecture theatre isn’t so bad afterall. I mean, at least I wasn’t that distracted.
And I learnt that there’s no such thing as 1 minute late. When you are late, YOU ARE LATE.

Alright, enough of getting all emotional, lets do a recap of what I learnt during NCT this past week.

To start off, at lecture, we learnt about Wireless Technology.
I finally know the differences between all the different ‘G’s..
You know, 2G, 3G…and I found out that Apple iPhone will come in 4G the next time round.
Technology is moving fast…a little too fast!

And on Thursday’s class, Li Ting introduced us to a phone that we thought is the bestest thing in the world. It’s called the Pomegranate phone! (see above picture)

It’s cute isn’t it?
Go google it.
There’s an official website!

Oh, and if you stumble upon the Wiki page, you’ll be in for a huge surprise!

My best friend, Aqmar presented us with the topic on Globalisation.
Wow..who knew it actually started since the 1400?
Impressive stuff!
You know how something that’s good can have something bad as well?
Well, Globalisation is one of it.
It’s good in a sense that people are connected closer to each other.
But it’s bad because it can cause people to lose jobs!

After that presentation, Kevin who presented on Podcasting the previous week, presented again with Part 2 of the “How to Podcast” presentation. Very technical. But very useful. I think I’m gonna try doing my own podcasts. Will you want to listen to it??

Alright, then on Friday which was just yesterday, I found out about this awesome, AWESOME website.

go to www.wolframalpha.com

It can tell you almost anything and everything!
For example…my birthdate! (see above picture again) Ok..I have seriously NO IDEA how to upload photos on WordPress)

These are things that happened on my birthdate 19 years ago!
Cool huh??

Oh, and has anyone heard of Second Life?
it’s an online game where you literally have another life online.
I like the whole idea of having a totally different persona online!
And it’s not just any type of game.
You can actually earn real cash!
And there’s also other things you can do like ehem…have sex with people..
It’s kind of weird but oh well, some people just have certain needs.

Oh yes, and how did I learn all this? It was thanks to my classmates Jovis, Aileen, William and Shawn.
Thanks guys for enlightening me =)

I was actually supposed to present on my topic regarding YouTube but it had to be pushed back till the last NCT lesson 2 weeks from now.
I have big plans for it and I’m going to make sure that it’s going to be something memorable for me and my classmates.

So..till next time,

this is WallyKhunCyrus

buzzing off!

PS: This is actually my 4th post. I don’t know why my previous one got a page of its own when it wasn’t supposed to.
