This is another post inspired by one of the writing prompts so kindly provided by Josie at Sleep is for the Weak every week. They’re always fun to do.

The shoe isn’t entirely accurate, and sorry about the dodgy lettering, but I was a bit rushed. Two posts in two days is a record for me.

Bijgaand een opzet grafische verwerking van het tijdschema en takenverdeling. Lijkt mij het meest handig als we inderdaad samen beslissen wie welk onderdeel/taken gaat verrichten. Ik heb ongeveer de weken zoals in vorige bericht is aangegeven aangehouden, en per kleur aangegeven wat er in welke periode moet gebeuren. Kleur is actie, grijs is geen actie. Geven jullie aan of dit tijdschema okay is.

Mijn eigen voorkeur gaat uit naar techniek en conceptontwikkeling.

Tijdschema en takenverdeling

The University of East Anglia’s Hadley Climatic Research Centre appears to have suffered a security breach earlier today, when an unknown hacker apparently downloaded 1079 e-mails and 72 documents of various types and published them to an anonymous FTP server.

Much of this information is damning, and shows the Centre involved in sharp practices.

De bedoeling is om een grafische planning te maken, met kleur per persoon, per cluster, en aangeven welke cluster we samen gaan doen. Ik wil zelf graag mij bezighouden met de graphics, met de VID kant en concept. Maar ik heb al wireframes gemaakt dus weet ongeveer wel hoe het moet. Naar mijn idee moeten we democratisch beslissen wie wat doen en welke clusters samen en kijken hoe veel tijd elke cluster in beslag neemt. Charmene wilde technische kant op weet ik nog, en Suraj marketing, what about you?

Everyone’s all a-twitter over Google’s newly announced operating system, Google Chrome OS. Some swear it’ll be a hit; others are convinced it’s destined for failure. Love it or hate it, though, this puppy’s one tough piece of software to ignore.

So what’s Chrome OS all about, and what could do it for you? Here are some answers.

What is Google Chrome OS?

Google Chrome OS is a lightweight, cloud-based operating system demonstrated by Google for the first time this week.

How’s it different from Windows 7?

Well, it won’t feature any launch parties, to start (at least, as far as we know). But the primary difference is that Google Chrome OS is designed to operate entirely off of the Internet. That means you won’t store data or run programs on the computer itself; rather, everything will Web-driven.

So, what’s the advantage?

Speed is one big plus: Because of the cloud-based configuration, Chrome OS can boot within as little as three seconds. That instant-on capability is a large reason why Google describes the Chrome OS experience as more like using a TV than using a computer: You press a button, and seconds later, you’re doing your thing.

Security is another expected advantage. Since you aren’t storing data or running applications locally, the odds of contracting a virus are significantly reduced. In fact, the Chrome OS won’t even allow applications to make changes to the operating system if they want to — and, on top of that, the OS will continually update itself and correct any corrupted modules automatically. The critical pieces of the OS will also be stored in read-only memory.

Do you actually save any data locally?

Not much. Chrome OS will store a small amount of data locally, such as your system preferences. Even that data will be encrypted, though — and synched with an online storage center, too. The idea, as Google explains it, is that you could lose your Chrome OS system, go get another one, and have everything back exactly the way it was within a matter of seconds.

Will you be able to work offline?

Kinda-sorta-maybe, a little. Since Google Chrome OS runs cloud-based applications, your options will be limited when you aren’t connected. Developers, however, may be able to build in a small amount of offline functionality for their programs.

What’s the Chrome OS interface like?

No big surprise here: It’s just like the interface of the Chrome browser. All of your applications run in tabs, and all of the tabs reside in windows. You can drag and drop tabs between windows at will. And there’s a permanent tab called the application menu that shows you new and noteworthy apps for your system.

Will you be able to run any program?

Technically, any Web-based application will work, so long as it’s able to operate in a standards-compliant browser. Even Microsoft’s Office Live will run on a Chrome OS computer — in fact, it’s the software’s default program for opening files such as Excel documents.

Does that mean you couldn’t install your own browser, like Firefox?

More or less. Chrome is the default browser in the Chrome OS, and you can’t install software onto a Chrome OS system. The only way around it would be if a developer such as Mozilla were to take Google’s open source code, create its own version of the Chrome operating system, and then sell its own Chrome OS devices with the Firefox browser built in.

What about Android apps — can you run those?

Nope. Google says its Chrome OS will not run Android-specific applications, since they have to be downloaded to a device to work.

What kind of computers will run Google Chrome OS?

Google Chrome OS will run on netbooks and mobile tablets (the ones that actually exist, anyway). They’ll be fairly scaled-down systems, since they won’t need much functionality besides USB and Wi-Fi. Google is already working with manufacturers to come up with a list of hardware components that’ll be allowed within the Chrome OS machines. Some of the early specifications include solid states disks (no hard drives) and full-sized keyboards.

Would Chrome OS replace your current computer?

Probably not. Chrome OS will provide more of a companion device — after all, you won’t be able to run complex programs not available on the cloud, nor will you necessarily be able to use advanced peripheral devices.

When will the Chrome OS computers be available?

Google expects to have Chrome OS systems on the market late next year, in time for the holiday season.

Can you try Chrome OS out any sooner?

Why, sure, as long as you’re up for an adventure. Since the code is completely open source, you can get your hands on it right now. But since it won’t run on just any computer, you’ll have to set up a virtual machine to make it work. Read through this handy guide if you’re brave enough to give it a whirl. Just make sure you know what you’re doing.

How many golf balls can you fit in a school bus?

Ето че вече най – ранни разраотки на Google Chrome OS са факт и ни дават поне малка представа какво ще представлява операционната система… Ако въобще ще може да се нарече така… Тя е по – скоро един браузър с един голям надпис “OS” накрая.

Та общо взето Google Chrome OS не само ще изпълнява ролята на бразуър, но и ще изглежда като такъв. Засега тя има почти същия вид като браузъра Chrome с няколко малки изключения като допълнителен таб за програмките.

Още от самото начало беше ясно, че операционната система ще се ползва главно с продуктите на Google (Documents, Calendar, Talk  и т.н.). Лично аз предполагах обаче, че те ще са интегрирани като програми за да могат да се използват по – бързо и по удобно, но уви не. Отново ще трябва да чакаме gmail да зареди, както и всички останали продукти, което на демото се оказа доста мудно. Слава богу за разлика от това системата стартира доста бързо.

Съществува някакво подобие на програма наречено Notepad, която обаче представлява бял прозорец в който може да се пише… и нищо друго. В крайна сметка това, което напишете отива в Google Docs, който има много, много повече възможности от въпросния notepad въпреки че е изцяло online.

Единствения начин да чатим за сега е чрез Google Talk. Със същата програма трябва и да организираме контактите си.

Изглежда Google разчитат прекалено много на online услугите си, които за такива са си доста добре, но да им се казва програми е абсурдно. Все пак не трябва да забравяме, че Chrome OS е в много ранен стадий и вероятно ще бъдат въведени доста промени, надявам се към добро, преди да бъде пуснат официално.

Un responsable de la división comparativa de Google aseguró que la mayoría de empresas podrá abandonar la suite, Office de Windows y passarse a Google Docs. Ya que considera que la bsuite es demasiado potente para muchas empresas y usuarios. Además de poder ahorrarse costes pasandose a Docs.

El representante reconoció que hasta ahora la suite no era lo suficientemente madura para poder competir con el Office de Windows. Una vez implementadas las 50 actualizaciones previstas para el siguiente año se espera que muchas empresas den el salto.

Personalmente creo que la genteno lo hará, ya que se visualiza de forma distinta por muchos esfuerzos que pingan esto será así. Para cambiar los habitos creo que será un proceso largo y costoso. Que pasará como en los sistemas GNU/Linux, que crece lentamente pero de forma imparable. Que opináis?

In ons geval moeten we de vraag natuurlijk enigszins anders formuleren, aangezien we te maken hebben met twee verschillende doelgroepen: kansarme jongeren en gepensioneerde financieel onafhankelijke mensen. Wat betreft de jongeren: we hebben weliswaar geen doelgroeponderzoek gedaan en hoewel we dat heel graag zouden willen doen en dat denk ik ook heel erg interessant zou zijn, kun je stellen dat het verschil tussen de needs van die doelgroep en de wants van die doelgroep behoorlijk groot is. Wat willen jonge kinderen? Spelen. Gamen. Ravotten. Herrie maken. Waar hebben ze behoefte aan, met andere woorden, wat zijn hun needs? Geborgenheid, aandacht, veiligheid, een luisterend oor. Maar het is niet stoer om dat toe te geven.

De belangrijkste need die uit ons doelgroeponderzoek bij de ouderen naar boven kwam, was de behoefte aan een zinnige tijdsbesteding. Er was een duidelijke behoefte in contact te komen met mensen van een jongere generatie en bij voorkeur met kinderen uit andere culturen. De eenzaamheid verdrijven was ook een belangrijke drijfveer bij de ouderen uit onze doelgroep.

Door aan te haken bij het project Big Brother Big Sister Rotterdam, kunnen we deze respectievelijke needs en wants met elkaar verbinden.

Zoiets noem je een win-win situatie.

Tijdens onze Skype-sessie kwam ter sprake dat er gezocht moet worden naar synoniemen voor o.a. samenleving, samen.

Ik heb gezocht naar synoniemen voor Samen en is meerdere malen gevonden als trefwoord. Voorbeelden hiervoor: bij elkaar, bijeen, collectief, eensgezind, gezamenlijk, met elkaar, met z’n allen, opgeteld, tegelijk, totaal, samsam etc.

Ons concept: Twee woonkamers, twee verschillende werelden en woonruimtes die d.m.v een deur toegankelijk zijn tot elkaar. Deze twee werelden moeten met elkaar verbonden worden. Een pakkend woord voor woonkamer is “living room”. Het gebruiken van Engelse termen kan geen kwaad, aangezien er ook gebruik is gemaakt van Big brother, Big sister. Ik vind het ook meer van deze tijd om Engelse termen te gebruiken.

Synoniem voor samen is o.a. samsam, zie boven. Bekt best goed vind ik zelf. Aangezien het in ons concept gaat om twee woonkamerruimtes die elk een wereld op zich voorstellen, waar in gewoond en geleefd wordt.  Je kunt het ook “the living room” noemen. Of een combinatie tussen samen en leven: “Sam’s living room” of “Sam-Sam’s (van samsam) living room”. Mijn voorkeur gaat uit naar “Sam’s living room”.

Een andere suggestie is bij binnenkomst van “the living room”, Sam of SamSam de deur te laten openen. Of Sam bepaalde vragen te laten beantwoorden. Je kunt dit op een leuke en speelse manier oplossen door het creeeren van een cartoon-achtige Sam (SamSam).

Ik hoop dat het duidelijk is hoe ik aan deze namen voor ons concept ben gekomen. Wat vinden jullie hiervan?

Ik ben trouwens ook erg benieuwd naar de reactie van Suraj en Axel m.b.t. mijn moodboard. Heb ik trouwens ook in Photoshop gemaakt Wellicht kunnen we de moodboards ook nog als presentatie materiaal gebruiken om de look and feel en beleving van het concept te onderbouwen?

De gestapelde stenen symboliseren de brug tussen de senioren en de jongeren (4 t/m 12 jaar), de wereldbol symboliseert de verschillende culturen en de hand met vingerverf symboliseert het speelse element. Tevens vormt het doolhof op de achtergrond de zoektocht tot het samenbrengen van de twee uiterste doelgroepen.

Ik ben benieuwd wat jullie ervan vinden en wat jullie hebben gemaakt.

Krawiec ready to battle for a second NHRA title at Pomona

MILWAUKEE (November 11, 2009) – Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Eddie Krawiec knows all about come-from-behind victories. Last season, Krawiec arrived at the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., 19 points out of first place in the Countdown to the Championship, yet managed to power his Harley-Davidson V-Rod motorcycle to the Pro Stock Motorcycle title when the leader faltered – and Krawiec stayed steady – in Sunday eliminations. On Thursday, Krawiec returns to Pomona for the Finals as the defending champion, but faces the challenge of overcoming a 54-point deficit to Buell rider and points lead Hector Arana.

“No question we are going to need Hector to stumble,” said Krawiec. “It’s his race to lose. But if he makes a mistake, I’m going to be there to take advantage. This is drag racing and a lot can happen. We are not out of this championship chase yet.”

To take home the title, Krawiec knows that the Screamin’ Eagle/Vance and Hines team needs to come off the trailer red-hot for the first rounds of qualifying on Thursday.

“We’d really like to do well in qualifying and earn enough bonus points to cut Arana’s lead to just two elimination rounds, or 40 points,” said Krawiec. “We’d need to be the quickest bike in each qualifying round, and hope that he never does better than fourth. That would give us 12 bonus points, plus the bonus for being top qualifier. There’s also the possibility, with the temperature predicted to be only be in the 60s, of setting a new class ET record, which is worth a 20-point bonus. There’s really a lot that can happen.

“The bottom line is that we just have to do our best and continue to race the way we have all season,” said Krawiec. “If we race as well as we can, we can’t be disappointed no matter what happens.”

Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines, who won his third event of the season on Nov. 1 at Las Vegas, comes to Pomona 153 points behind Arana and out of contention for the title. But the three-time world champion is just 38 points ahead of Nitrofish.com Suzuki rider Matt Smith in the race for third place in the season standings.

“I’m racing to hold on to that third position, and look for an opportunity to help Eddie bring home the title again this year,” said Hines. “The Screamin’ Eagle team will be racing hard all weekend.”

The Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals will take place at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif., with qualifying rounds on Nov. 12-14, and final eliminations scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15.
