So my son loves this car and I thought, why not for my first post.

Last year I blogged in detail about the “new old classics.” For the record I will say I think they are the best things to happen to the American car industry in a long time. In the present economy, we need to see the very best in innovations in the US car market, which has played step-sister, to imports for more than a decade. The 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT, which is Kevin’s car on Ben 10, is a beautiful piece of work.

The look of all the new classic cars have more refined masculine lines, though the 2010 Mustang is a “little bubbly” looking from the side, something I think they shouldn’t have done. The Challenger is rigid and strong looking and sounding. I firmly believe that muscle cars should sound like muscle cars, and the Challenger does. The 2010 Camaro fails a bit in this area, and though I was cheering for the Camaro over the other two (I think a lot of Chevy’s engine power) the Challenger comes out ahead in this area.

The price of the Challenger is the biggest turnoff though. To get a fully loaded SRT you have to pay around $40,000+. Dodge cars depreciate too quickly for such a high price. The interior doesn’t live up to the price either and I was really disappointed when I got a look inside, knowing the cost

The Challenger boast 400+ hp and a 6.1 Liter engine (if memory serves.) It is a rear wheel-driving monster with a wide enough wheelbase to make it hold the road well, which I love about any car. Dodge’s handle a little choppy for me, and the Challenger keeps with that norm.

Overall the Challenger is an awesome, inspiring piece of machinery. And I have to thank Dodge for having one of the only two cars on the market that I will almost run off the road to turn and look at (the Camaro being the other one.) So son, if mommy was rich, which she isn’t, she wouldn’t buy you a Challenger. She’d get a Camaro, but maybe one weekend we would rent one and take it for a spin up the coast. In the mean time, in the real world, I will Tivo Ben 10 because it comes on after your bedtime and we can both dream…

Did you know that you can lose significant amounts of power and fuel economy your truck once had just because you may have neglected your intake filter? A simple cleaning and re-oiling of your intake filter can make a world of difference. Let OCDiesel.com explain why this happens…

Your engine needs airflow. It’s one of the most important things that an engine needs. This is especially true in a Diesel engine. It needs oxygen rich, cool, clean air to run at peak performance. If you have an intake filter you have not looked at in 3 years then chances are you have been robbing your engine of this. Because better combustion from better airflow directly reflects how much power and fuel economy your engine will be getting. It should be important to make sure you have a clean filter.

OCDiesel.com carries aFe’s whole line of filter restoration products. This is one of the simplest and most inexpensive ways to bring more airflow to your engine.

Not all oil is created equal. Highly refined oil from aFe will not harm MAF sensors and cause engine light warnings. It works great with aFe filters and is a great way to upgrade competitors oiled filters. The cleaner is specially formulated to release dirt without harming the microfibers critical to efficient filtration and airflow

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

- Dr. Joachim Schmidt: “We will continue this positive trend, and we expect sales in the fourth quarter to be above last year’s level.”
- Record sales in China – Schmidt: “We expect Mercedes-Benz Cars to increase its sales in China by more than 50 percent in full-year 2009.”
- Mercedes-Benz USA posts best monthly result since the beginning of the year, with sales up by 21 percent in October
- E- and S-Class sedans maintain market leadership

Stuttgart, Germany, Nov 06, 2009 – In October, global sales were up at Mercedes-Benz for the first time this year. Mercedes-Benz was able to increase sales significantly in October by seven percent to 88,400 units (October 2008: 82,500. The smart brand sold 9,300 (October 2008: 11,300) units (minus 18 percent). With the delivery of 97,700 passenger cars (October 2008: 93,800), total sales at Mercedes-Benz Cars increased by four percent. The October sales increase was due to the E-Class and the new generation of the S-Class as well as to high growth rates in many regions such as North America and Asia/Pacific. Sales of Mercedes-Benz vehicles were also above last year’s level in Western Europe.

“We will continue this positive trend in the coming months, and we expect sales in the fourth quarter to be above the level of the same period of last year,” said Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Head of Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Cars. Contributing to this development will be the new E-Class and the new generation S-Class, as well as the ongoing strong growth rates in the Asia/Pacific region, particularly in China. By the end of September, Mercedes-Benz had already sold more vehicles in China than in all of last year. Says Schmidt: “Mercedes-Benz Cars will continue to grow at a dynamic rate in China, and we expect the increase for 2009 as a whole to amount to more than 50 percent.”

In October Mercedes-Benz once again set a sales record in China, with sales rising by 78 percent to 6,600 units (October 2008: 3,700). As a result, since the start of the year, Mercedes-Benz has been the fastest-growing premium brand in China. In October, Mercedes-Benz Cars also delivered more vehicles than ever before to the Asia/Pacific region as a whole, handing over 14,100 passenger vehicles to customers (October 2008: 10,500) for an increase of 34 percent. High growth rates were also posted in October in Australia (up 22 percent) and South Korea (up 63 percent).

In the United States, October was the best month of the year so far for Mercedes-Benz. Sales bucked the general market trend, rising by 21 percentto 18,200 units (October 2008: 15,000). This was the first time this year that sales were substantially higher than in 2008, and ensured that Mercedes-Benz remains the strongest German premium brand in the U.S. Contributing factors here included the E-Class, deliveries of which tripled to 6,100 units, and the GLK, which was once again the best-selling vehicle in its class in October, with deliveries of 1,800 units. Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz posted another sales record in Canada in October, increasing customer deliveries by 28 percent to 2,200 passenger vehicles (October 2008: 1,700).

In the Western Europe region (not including Germany), Mercedes-Benz increased its sales by seven percent in October, thanks in particular to the high increases for the new E-Class. The brand enjoyed strong growth amounting to 55 percent in the UK, with a total of 5,800 units sold.

Sales of new E-Class continued to develop positively in the past month, with worldwide deliveries doubling in October to 17,100 units. Double-digit sales increases were registered in almost all markets. That made it once again the clear market leader in its segment. The company expects the launch of the new station wagon, which can be seen at dealerships starting on November 21, to give an additional positive boost to the E-Class family.

The new generation of the S-Class also got off to a successful start. Worldwide sales of the S-Class sedan were slightly above the previous year's level. Since the beginning of this year, the sedan has been the best-selling sedan in its segment. In China, which is now the biggest market for the S-Class, 1,100 luxury sedans were delivered to customers in October alone, which represents an increase of 12 percent. The sedan also sold very well in Germany, with an increase of 42 percent, and in Japan, where October sales increased by 13 percent. Mercedes-Benz sold 15,100 units of its SUVs worldwide (2008: 14,800), with an increase of two percent. The GLK, which was especially popular, enjoyed mainly double-digit growth rates in the Western European markets.

For 2010 the Legacy looks more aggressive and sporty. The headlights are angled more, the character lines create a more muscular look, along with bigger wheel arches. The Legacy has a more modern, mainstream, Japanese appearance. It will be more competitive in the midsize sedan segment, but it's aggressive styling wouldn't look at home in a forest carrying mountain bikes like the old Legacy did.

While the exterior doesn't give thoughts of the usual Subaru activities of hiking and kayaking, the interior gives impressions of a more mainstream midsize sedan at home in mall parking lots. Comfortably designed for the driver and passenger with easy to use controls, soft cream leather seats, and class leading passenger space. Steering wheel controls are standard on the 2.5i Limited are well laid out and easy for the driver to use. Subaru's shortcomings in quality with their use of hard plastic, flimsy door panels, and cheap wood trim left me disappointed, while the previous generation Legacy excelled in quality.

Subaru has used it's new Lineartronic CVT transmission in the new Legacy. It provides a very smooth drive with gearshifts that are as smooth as a hot knife through butter. The paddle shifters are possibly the easiest I've ever used for manual shifting and coupled with the CVT provide a smooth ride. The base 2.5 liter engine feels very underpowered. Subaru's have been known to have a tighter suspension and this Legacy is completely different. The drive feels more like an everyday sedan focused more on driver comfort than a Subaru has ever been. Everyday driving is more polished and tranquilizing than the previous generation Legacy. I took the Legacy through some winding country roads where Subarus usually shine, and was very surprised. Clumsiness and body roll plagued the Legacy like an old woman without her walker. The 2.5 liter 170 hp engine made the Legacy feel underpowered and heavy. The other two optional 256 or 265 hp engines would make the Legacy feel more capable for everyday driving. Even with Subaru's all wheel drive system it felt as though it lacked Subaru's willingness to go off road, instead focusing on a smooth and comfortable drive for those city folk.

The redesigned Legacy is a Subaru aimed more towards a mainstream market. It's comfortable ride and cabin make for a pleasing highway and city drive. Aggressive styling coupled with it's soft ride may scare away some loyal Subaru owners and attract a different buyer. The Legacy lacks what makes Subaru a Subaru. It has evolved into a mainstream car, one that won't be found driving through dirt trails or going on camping trips, instead will be at home on highways and city streets.

For the 2010 model year, Chrysler Group LLC products make up nearly 15 percent of the total vehicles

For the 2010 model year, Chrysler Group LLC products make up nearly 15 percent of the total vehicles named Top Safety Picks by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Specifically, the IIHS selected the 2010 Jeep Patriot, 2010 Chrysler Sebring, 2010 Dodge Avenger and 2010 Dodge Journey for the awards. This makes two years running for the Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Avenger and Dodge Journey as IIHS safety picks. The awards are another example of Chrysler Group LLC’s commitment to both safety and quality.

“Chrysler showed the most improvement of any automaker for 2010,” said IIHS President Adrian Lund. “These Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge models are part of an elite group that afford the best overall crash protection and have electronic stability control, which can help keep drivers out of crashes altogether.”

In addition to ESC with traction control, all four vehicles include Brake Assist and Antilock Braking System, driver and front-passenger active head restraints, front seat-mounted side airbags and advanced multi-stage front airbags.

All four vehicles also include the company’s new active head restraint system for front-seat occupants. This system allows head rests to move forward with the seat occupant’s head during a rear-end collision, thus reducing the space between the head rest and the person’s head.

Advanced Flow Engineering, Inc. Founded in April, 1999, aFe was created to address an obvious need in the automotive aftermarket industry: a lack of choice for a high performance aftermarket air filter.

They have years of experience in their respective positions and together work to ensure that they have the best product on the market. Their purpose was not just to be another vendor that offers air filters, they chose to pay attention to those finer details, which is what sets aFe filters apart from the competition.

Our little expedition made our way outside of the second barn and were just hanging around. I thought that we had done the tour, gotten the t-shirt and were on the downhill of an adrenaline spike. There was still a few Mopars in the immediate area. So while our host and my friends were chatting I walked around a bit.

Walking around next to the third barn was a well picked over Plymouth Duster. It wasn’t anything special, but it was a old Mopar. So it deserved some attention. It was a green on green car from the looks of it. Has some parts left on it, sad to see it though just sitting there, watching over the fields. Continue reading after the jump.

Nearby was a 65 Satellite parts car. It has the V8 emblem, so it could be a small block or big block car. This car looked as though many of its parts would be used for one of the other half dozen 65 Satellites he has.

Walking back towards Barn Three was a really nice old 70’s Dodge Extended Cab pickup. The kind you would find on farms. It was in pretty decent shape. Sure there was rust, but nothing compared to the rust in my 93 RamCharger. I wouldn’t mind dragging that thing out of there and getting it going! Would be one nice parts hauler.

After looking at the truck, I turned around to find the third barn had a large open area that opened up to the truck that was also full of parts! Hood, bumpers, seats, fenders, almost anything was in this little nook. And that got the wheels running in my head, could there be MORE in this barn?

I walked over to where the group was chatting and asked if I could open the door to the third barn, he said sure. And we opened it up and I was in the back of the previous opening. I thought that was cool, then from the left side I see Shad and Scott pop their heads out of a hole in the wall, there was more!

Walking in through the other door, you could hardly walk there was so many WONDERFUL parts. In the rafters was grilles from Challengers and Chargers that I could see, and each stall was full of different things, some were full of seats, others of hoods.

In the middle of the walkway was what I think was an late 60’s A-body 4 piston disk brake setup still on the k-member. Also in the hall way was some doors and a trunk lid from a 68 Road Runner or Satellite. All the pieces, while dirty was in great condition. There was even some sort of original drag racing Mercury Comet GT? hood in there along with all the Mopar stuff.

Spending some time in there going through the different stalls, I was just in wonderment of what he all had. I thought I had seen some crazy collections before, but this was just insane!

I finally emerged from the third Barn to find my Scott just smirking from ear to ear, and Shad was just shaking his head back and fourth as I began ranting about what I had just seen, like a kid going to the candy store! They laughed and we all were chatting again, then our host dropped another bombshell…. wanna see the other 30 cars out back?!?!?!?!?!…. There was MORE!

S&B diesel performance intake kits are all about improving airflow to your cars engine. Its just a matter of superior design. Better airflow translates into a noticeable increase in power, acceleration and most importantly…bragging rights.

Airflow:

S&Bs intake kits are engineered to improve the airflow to your cars engine. It starts with years of research and development, as well as the most technically advanced testing. S&B tests to the ISO 5011 Air Filtration Standard in a climate – controlled lab when designing and testing our intake kits. This is the same technology used by Ford, Chrysler and General Motors to design the original induction system that comes on your vehicle.

Thorough Research & Development:

During our ISO 5011 testing, we first measure the restriction of the airflow through your vehicles original induction system in order to establish a baseline. The goal of a Performance Intake Kit is to reduce the restriction of the airflow to your vehicles engine. In laymans terms, we want to make it easier for the engine to breathe. By reducing the restriction of the airflow, your engine will have better throttle response and produce more horsepower and torque. Since your engine will not have to work as hard to produce the required amount of power – the result is better fuel economy.

Back It Up – Certified Test Results:

S&B provides ISO 5011 Certified Test Results for its intake kits, so you can see exactly how much the airflow was improved (restriction decreased) as well as the efficiency of the filter. For example, the S&B intake kit for the 2002 Dodge Ram 5.9L Cummins Diesel improves the airflow 46.8% versus the OE Induction System while still stopping 99.90% of the dirt. Demand ISO 5011 Certified Test Results prior to purchasing your next Performance Intake Kit.
