Dogs in cafés.

. . . . .

What struck me the most was that it was not an event full of ‘bling-bling’ (the glamourous image of the French Riviera) — just a day full of ‘gling-gling’ (the ringing sound of bicycle bells), as everyone came out to enjoy the day’s activities. It was entertaining to see the mix of people enjoying themselves and being ‘mischievous’ on a cloudy (yet warm) Sunday on the French Riviera!

Leah and Venus

Leah, Anthony, Venus and I went to Aix-en-Provence for lunch. French people don’t mind too terribly much if dogs eat at restaurants—totally different from the good old USA. But for us pet lovers, we think it’s pretty funny.

We also walked around Aix-en-Provence and admired the old buildings and churches.

There was a church built in the 8^th century, however I was looking at it through 21^st century knowledge, therefore finding little meaning.

History is fascinating, but there isn’t a lot of impetus in history unless meaning is found. As churches were carved out of rocks hundreds of years ago, our ideas concerning salvation, beauty, shelter, and wellbeing also need to be carved and shaped into what is practical and meaningful today.

Coincidentally, I am reviewing the 4^th edition of the revision of 19^th century Science and Health, a job that needs to be continually kept up, like those old buildings. The meaning becomes more and more evident. And I’ve been able to review the 4th edition with Venus sitting in my lap!

Barajas is a rough coated, male Podenco born around February 2008. He was wandering the streets for quite a while and was eventually caught and taken into “care” about a year ago. His time on the streets were obviously traumatic for him as he is a little fearful and timid but is coming round and learning to trust people, albeit slowly.

 With a little loving care he will make a wonderful companion and he has many good points. He is playful, house-trained, walks well on a lead, good with other dogs (both male and female) but is not so good with cats.

 It is time now for Barajas to find his forever home …….   Can you help him?

 He is all prepared for adoption in Spain or other mainland European countries. He is neutered, chipped, blood tested, fully vaccinated and has his own passport so adoption could be arranged immediately.

Originally from Spain, he didn’t have a very good start in life as he was taken to the perrera (municipal pound) to be put down as he was unsuitable for hunting!  Thankfully he was rescued by the kind people from EDL (L’Europe des Levriers) who placed him in one of their foster homes in France.

He has everything going for him now as he is a perfect family dog. He walks well on a lead,  he’s housetrained and is totally oblivious to cats as he has learnt that they scratch and hiss!!

He is playful but also gentle and affectionate. He would be ideal for a family with older children and at least one other dog to play with. His favorite pastime is playing with his “foster” brothers and sisters in the garden of his temporary home in France.

Much as this family love him, he needs to be rehomed to make way for more rescue dogs currently waiting in Spain for their “second chance”. 

Darin really needs his own forever family …….. Could that be you???

Nela

 Nela is a sweet little Podenco around 12 months old. I say little as she stands only 35 cms tall so fairly small for this breed.

 She was found wandering the streets of a Madrid suburb but it is unknown if she had been living in the area or dumped by someone from the surrounding countryside. It is probably the latter as she is still not accustomed to walking properly on a lead.

 With abandoned dogs it is difficult to know what they have gone through in their past and Nela is no exception. She is a little timid and wary of strange situations. She doesn’t come when called unless you tempt her with a little meat.

 Nela is looking for a new home with someone who can spend some time bringing her out of her shell. Podencos make wonderful companions and are very loyal once they have overcome their initial fear.

 With a little time and effort Nela could be a wonderful addition to your family.

 She is currently in a shelter in Spain but can be adopted through  L’Europe des Lévriers in the Paris region.
