Suzi Quatro siempre impone estilo con su bajo

En la historia del rock  siempre han existido músicos que tenían tanto potencial que uno podría pensar que llegarían a ser tan grandes como Iron Maiden, The Rolling Stones o Metallica. Sin embargo, a veces el público no los apoya  tanto, lo que provoca que sus carreras se queden en el intento de la gloria absoluta.

A pesar del panorama en contra, su calidad musical es incuestionable y uno de los ejemplos claros  de este tipo de artistas que no llegaron al Olimpo de los dioses del rock,  lo encuentro en Suzi Quatro -antes de The Runaways y de dos graduadas de esta banda femenina, que tuvieron carreras con éxito respetable como Lita Ford o Joan Jett- esta bajista estadounidense salió a escena, tocando con una furia rocanrolera que cualquiera podría augurar que se convertiría en un ícono que podría igualar la gloria de la gran Janis Joplin.

Suzi cantaba con actitud y fuerza y esto se reflejaba en temas como “Can to can” o “Rock Hard”, su estilo te volaba la cabeza y era prácticamente la única mujer rockera al centro de una banda. En Estados Unidos no pudo tener el éxito que tuvo en Europa o en Inglaterra, sin embargo en México llegó a sonar mucho a finales de los 70’s e inicios de los 80’s, lo que me hace pensar que a veces el mercado estadounidense no es tan sabio como se suele pensar.

La primera vez que vi a Adam and The Ants, vi una actitud punk, pero que ya estaba combinada con el New Romantic,  realmente pensé que el cantante Adam Ant se veía tan sobrado que era sólo cuestión de tiempo para que conquistara Norteamérica y fuera la competencia directa de otro post punk como Billy Idol.

Su look de pirata combinado con maquillaje y esa voz  limpia pero chillona, era digna de un cantante explosivo, que igual pudo llegar a las alturas de un Michael Hutchence de INXS, pero tuvo la mala suerte de ser manejado por Malcom McLaren, el mítico manager de los Sex Pistols, que tenía como característica sólo sacar buen dinero de sus bandas cuando iniciaban y luego abandonarlas a su suerte.

Los escoceses de Simple Minds hubiera podido ocupar el lugar de U2, ya que llegaron a dominar las listas de Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido, como sus colegas irlandenses. La forma de tocar del  guitarrista Charlie Burchill competía sin ningún trabajo con la de The Edge.

También se preocupaban por los problemas sociales, siendo colaboradores de Amnistía Internacional y eran apoyados siempre por la crítica especializada. A pesar de su gran calidad musical, sólo se les recuerda por su sencillo “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”, como si solamente hubieran sido una banda de un sólo sencillo.

El público se fue con U2 y dejaron atrás a Simple Minds,porque la banda de Bono se sacudió su estilo europeo y la banda del frontman Jim Kerr prefirió seguir experimentando pero con sus bases del Viejo Mundo.

Dokken fue una banda de hard rock que logró ventas millonarias en los 80’s,  contando con gran calidad en composición, estilo guitarristico y vocal, logrando grandes temas que musicalmente superaban a muchos de sus contemporáneos.

“Breaking the chains”, “Alone again”, fueron clásicos que tenían la fuerza clásica del hard-rock, sin caer en la clásica power ballad,  y que incluso hacía pensar a cualquiera que podrían evolucionar a territorios nuevos y frescos.

Tenían el espíritu de  Bon Jovi, pero sin llegar a ser excesivamente comerciales, pero tampoco entraban en la categoría agresiva de unos Skid Row. Sus diferencias personales entre el cantante Don Dokken y el guitarrista George Lynch, fueron el detonante de su separación, terminando olvidados por los fans, sin ocupar el trono que realmente merecían. 

Cinderella era una banda descubierta por el mismísimo Jon Bon Jovi, quien los recomendó con una disquera y de ser una banda desconocida de Philadelphia, lograron ubicarse como una banda importante de glam metal en Estados Unidos y el mundo.

Sus ventas millonarias y el estilo de sus canciones, lograron darle un aire fresco al hard-rock ochentero y eran de las pocas bandas que realizaban arreglos más elaborados en sus temas, al grado que llegaron a interesar al ex bajista de Led Zeppelin, John Paul Jones, cuando colaboró con ellos en su disco “Heartbreak Station”. Realmente pensé que llegarían más lejos, pero el público simplemente decidió concentrarse en el grunge.

Hai presente il brainstorming? Prendi venti cervelli e li metti in una stanza cercando di far uscire fuori l’idea più scrausa possibile. A quanto ne so è una cosa che butta benissimo in tutte quelle robe tipo agenzie di comunicazione, pubblicità eccetera. Nel caso specifico, mettono insieme venti o trenta capocce per tirare fuori un qualche concetto forte, qualcosa che convinca milioni di persone a comprarsi il Norton. Magari da farlo diventare un bel cazzo di viral, qualcosa di talmente assurdo e fuori da girare per conto suo. Te li immagini a fare notte tarda con le patatine e gli hamburger di soia e le loro cazzo di soft drink a caccia di un’idea geniale. Il tempo passa, niente da fare. Minacciano di farli fuori tutti, tipo episodio di 24. Poi la mente s’annebbia, il senso della vergogna sparisce, un coglionazzo che magari è lì per passare lo spruzzino nei vetri entra a gamba tesa con l’idea del millennio e tutti i geni iniziano a guardarsi l’un l’altro. Chiamano la Norton. Alla Norton gli passano un executive di quarant’anni strafatto di metanfetamine. Gli risponde. Ma sì, famolo per il LOAL. I Dokken contro un pollo crudo.

Se toca por primera vez una cancion de The Beatles en EU cuando Murry The K puso “She Loves You” en la radio de New York.

Heavy metal bands take no shit, rock hard, and are very intimidating….most of the time.  Back in the ’80s, record companies got massive big-hair boners for the bands in L.A.  Any ass clown that could play 3 chords, had long hair, or booked a gig at The Rainbow/Whiskey had a shot at making it big.  How very lame.  Because of this L.A. explosion, we had to suffer through many shitty bands, as well as the classic formula of “hit/ballad/hit”.

It is now almost 30 years later and safe to laugh at most of those bands.  Today we are going to laugh at DOKKEN. Sure, they rocked in Nightmare On Elm Street 3, fighting off Freddy with a great song.  However, we’re going to be taking a look at one of their greatest achievements is hilarity.

DOKKEN: Breaking the Chains

I so didn’t need to see Don Dokken’s underpants and hairless legs.  If I wanted to see a dude look like that, I’d watch Zapp Brannigan be Zapp Brannigan.  God…what a rediculous video.  Oh well.  What’s done is done.  See you next week and Happy Birthday to ex-DOKKEN guitarist Geroge Lynch.  You leaving that band has been a birthday gift to us all.

Below is the trailer for Michael Bay’s A Nightmare On Elm Street. This remake, set for release in April 2010, will complete the triumvirate of the über-slashers, joining reboots of the Halloween and Friday The 13th franchises. This is also the first time anyone besides Robert Englund has portrayed Freddie Krueger on the big screen, with Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen’s Rorschach) taking over the famed glove and striped sweater.

Naturally, after seeing what Bay did with the Friday The 13th remake (and anything else, for that matter), my expectations for this are very low. But regardless, it’s still kind of exciting to see Freddie back in action again. The 1984 classic scared the crap out of me.

The first two movies relied solely on scores, but when the decision was made to feature hair-metal band Dokken on the 1987 soundtrack for Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, a precedent was set and several terrible songs followed.

I watch a lot of Hulu, mostly because I refuse to pay for cable television, and partially because that’s how I keep myself occupied during office hours. They’ve been airing a lot of these Norton 2009 anti-virus software ads lately and they are HILARIOUS and ridiculous and great.

Jeg har vært vitne til Odds dårlige forsøk på å komme til cupfinalen i dag. Og det var av den latterlige sorten. Det var tydelig hvem som ville mest, og som fikk til mest. Oddrane trilla en del ball, men kom aldri til målsjangser. Man skulle tro at Kovacs hadde muligheter til å sparke fra seg mot AAFKs backrekke, men det så helle dårlig ut. Skiri, Arnefjord og Årøy hadde full kontroll på hungarern. Men han fikk jo den ene sjangsen på slutten, men det klarte han å lumpe til ballen med innsida av høyrefoten.. keepermat !
Og får å toppe hele denne latterlige opptreden til skiensguttene, smelle Dokken kneet sitt inn i Johan Arneng etter å ha bli fette eid i en duell før. Arneng viser at han er en mann med rutine. Og Dokken viser at han aldri kommer til å bli en “stor” tippeligaspiller. Han har verken teknikk eller hode til å spille fast på dette nivået. Å gå helt “Bruce Lee” på en spiller som bare er sterkere i kroppen ? = Driti ut !
