Above, five baby meerkats who sadly lost their mother after they were born to the trauma of giving birth. Their owner has given them the above doll with a hot water bottle inside and they can’t seem to tell the difference.

“The babies are a month old now and they lost their mum just two days after they were born,” Mr Rowlands said. “We bought the toy to try and lessen the trauma for them and try and make things as natural as possible.

“We put it in with them and they just snuggled up to it like it was their mother. To recreate the warmth that Anika would have given off we also found a small hot water bottle we got the right temperature.

“They now assume that the toy is their mum and they acting completely normally around it. Of course every hour we have to feed them milk ourselves, but use miniature little bottles which recreate how they would get it from mum.

“We even give it to them near the toy so they can’t tell the difference between it and their mother – it’s a really good result.”

Caleb and I have both had our fair share of language oops (what’s the plural of oops – oopses?)… I think we’ve blogged about some of them here.  But we aren’t the only ones that are constantly “bringing cheer” to others with our choice of words… it works both ways, and we often get a good laugh at the English we hear thrown around here.

The girls were all so so so excited about meeting baby Isla.  They love her so much and are going to make great big sisters to her.  When they first met her, we heard all the typical Arabic expressions you hear in Lebanon – “ooh, she’s so delicious,”  “oh, my little life,” “I could just eat her up,” “In God’s name, she is beautiful.”

But then we heard one in English that we hadn’t heard before…

“I don’t know, I just feel like she is a little game!”

A game?

Then we realized, the word l3abe in Arabic is the same word used for both game and baby doll.  But the girls didn’t know the English word “doll,” so in their translation, Isla was a game.  I think it’s because she is so bald and white (that’s the topic of a whole ‘nother blog – “Is it healthy that she is so white??”)… she doesn’t look like most babies here, she looks more like the baby dolls the kids play with.

We didn’t correct them, it’s just too cute, and gives us a good giggle every time they call her a “little game.”  (“Will she still look like a game when she gets bigger?”)

La diseñadora de ropa Lucia Lorio ha presentado una nueva línea de lencería cool que, bajo el eslogan de “Find Me If You Can” (”Encuéntrame si puedes”) revoluciona totalmente el mercado. Lo hace incorporando un sistema GPS con cada pieza de lencería de su colección. Según la propia diseñadora, se trata de un concepto tan sexy como sensual que les dará a las mujeres una posición de poder sobre sus parejas.

La lencería con GPS está diseñada a modo de camisón corto de encaje, con un estilo de bikini y un collar de perlas de imitación. Se encuentra disponible en cuatro modelos, pero todos ellos coinciden en lo mismo: un sistema GPS escondido dentro de la prenda (en la parte de la cintura). Con él la pareja de la chica que lo lleve podrá saber dónde se encuentra su novia-esposa en todo momento.

El GPS incorpora un sistema de protección con nombre de usuario y password, que nos permite seguir el recorrido de la chica desde internet (marcándose latitud, altitud y longitud). Por suerte, y para que no parezca un cinturón de castidad moderno, la chica que lleve la lencería podrá desactivar el GPS en cualquier momento. Pero si se siente insegura o quiere que alguien sepa siempre donde se encuentra, el GPS hará su trabajo de forma eficaz.

Su precio es de 800$ (alrededor de 530 euros) con un GPS estándar, mientras que el modelo avanzado se lanza al coste de 1100$ (unos 740 euros).

March’s releases were officially announced this morning, it’s kind of anti-climatic as they were leaked earlier in the month by a European company that sells pullips. All three releases are collaborations, the pullip is based off of another character portrayed by Audrey Hepburn this time the title character of Sabrina, the dal is based off of the Disney classic Pinocchio and the byul is based off of the Disney classic Dumbo.



Sabrina is pretty but perhaps a bit too close to Princess Ann for my liking. I can not get over Jun Planning/Groove Inc’s fascination with Audrey Hepburn, her proportions are perfect for pullip but do we really need three pullips based off of her? She does actually come with two full outfits like Princess Ann did.

I am not very excited about Pinocchio, she has a lovely tan skin tone but I am not fan of her face up. I am not sure what dal’s fascination is with cross-dressing.

It’s a bad sign when the thing I am most excited about for the month’s release announcements is the byul’s stock. I loved the movie when I was a kid so of course I will need the Dumbo stock for one of my pullips/dals, I will not be going to the dark side and actually buying a byul though.

All in all, I am a bit disappointed with the March releases mainly because my birthday is in March and I was hoping for more exciting releases.

Superstar Taylor Swift could be under your tree this year, whether you are naughty (Joe Jonas – she’s looking at you) or nice (Taylor Lautner.) The singer’s likeness is being turned into a doll by Jakks Pacific. Ok, so it’s technically not Barbie from Mattel, but you get the idea.

The plastic versions of Swift sing snippets of her hit songs, have cute little mini guitars and are available at Amazon.com for holiday giving.

Naomi came yesterday, Edge arrived before her even though Edge was purchased later and they came from the same website Pullipstyle – one of the many, many reasons I hate Fed Ex. Naomi is supposed to be a member of a Visual Kei band, I am not overly familiar with Visual Kei bands but if the ones I seen in concert at Anime Boston were any type of indication of the style I am not particularly a fan ^^;

Naomi herself is actually rather lovely. She has a bold face up and while she does glitter eye make up it is not over the top like Venus’. The unmatched eyebrows are the only slight detraction from her beauty, her light eyebrows kind of detract from the overall effect but she is still really lovely. She is the perfect rock star, she definitely has the stage presence. I decided to name my little rock and roll goddess, Valhalla.

It has been 5 years since the Franklin Mint released a new Porcelain Marilyn Monroe doll.  So I was excited to see the new Eternally Marilyn.  She seems to be based on the Richard Avedon photos of Marilyn in a black sequined dress with a fur wrap.  The only difference is that they went with a black wrap on the doll.

I love dolls that have been created since 2000.  Their poses are interesting and I think they do a great job capturing Marilyn’s likeness.  The earlier dolls leave a lot to be desired.  I also like that they are using less “famous” outfits.  I get tired of seeing the same film worn costumes all the time.  Marilyn has a library of amazing photographs and it is great to see them come to life in doll form.

This one was sent to me by my good friend Hayne.  Hayne is also is a maker of films.  His fingerprints are on a little gem called  Solid Country Gold.  It’s a good’n.  His submission is not.  Just look at how that nasty little doll lost its tooth trying to nibble on someone’s ankle after waiting under their bed for hours.  This one got a 6 because she looks too sassy.  Too sassy for her nasty little boots.

I made some clay lips from Sculpey clay for the doll.

I was pleased with the way the lips looked but not with the way they looked on the doll.

They were not laying flat against the cloth.

I decided I would stitch some cloth  lips to the doll…..

but, I was not satisfied with that either…..

I know she is a little “wacky” but, I think it is kind of fun that her eyes are buttons

that are made from nuts, and her hair is floral wire and her lips

are clay.  The dress fabric is a Batik.

Update: the first batch of Christmas postcards went out in the mail this week.

Mr. Postman was telling me how he has seen unusual things in the mail…like a painted coconut.

We laughed about it but, he was intrigued with my hand stitched postcards.

It was really inexpensive to mail them and when I think about how little

fabric it took to make them the only thing it really cost was my time.

Not bad…

¡Bonitas piernas! ¿A que hora abren?

Este post es algo tramposo pues no se trata de alsun asunto o tema particular. Solamente encontre esta buena foto y quise compartirlas con ustedes.  ¿ A poco la zorrita de la foto tiene un par de piernotas capaz de provocar infartos? Sin embargo, a la que le debemos dar las gracias es a su amiga de rosita (que se ve que tambien esta potable), la cual, segun se ve, fue la que animo a su amiga carnosa a mostrar su fenomenal par de apendices. ¡Gracias por ser tan cooperativa, ojala hubiera mas mujeres como tu… la neta!

The dream doll of every little girl is celebrating her 50^th anniversary this year. This doll was first launched in Mar 1959 by American business woman Ruth Handler.

Barbie will be seen in a new avatar to celebrate her 50^th anniversary. Barbie will don the traditional Islamic dress, Burqa, so that the girls wherever they are from should have the opportunity to play with a Barbie that they feel represents them.

I guess I can officially announce that she has arrive now seeing how I already used one of the pictures I took of her for today’s picture for my 365 day project. Pullipstyle’s quick shipping never ceases to amaze me.. Edge was ordered early Saturday morning and came with Monday’s mail. I neglected to preorder Edge, her wig was just so off-putting to me (I do have a wig set aside for her but the stock wig is growing on me) but I decided to order her after I got shipping notification for Naomi (who has still yet to arrive- Fed Ex!).

I was not originally sure what I was going to name her, I decided all dals (except customs) would have alcohol names this year (they could keep their stock name for collab dolls, etc). Then I took a picture of her getting ready to smash something with her guitar and decided that wow she has a very sour personality and her name became Whiskey Sour.

My impressions of her so far other than my extreme dislike of her stock wig, is that her stock is decent quality but odd. One side of her shirt outgrowths (?) is longer than the other, I also find myself wishing the top of the outfit was a bit more covering it seems to be kind of an awkward length on her. At first I was kind of impressed by her boots until I realized they are Rida’s boot again just dressed up a bit. I was truly impressed that she actually came with three tiny guitar picks. I bought a replacement wig for her but I am trying to give the stock wig a chance ^^;

Today’s photography subject is my new Edge dal, Whiskey Sour (more on her later). I was trying to be a bit more varied in my photos and not do another doll so soon but  I was photographing her anyway….

I decided she would be today’s photo subject because she just arrived yesterday. She is supposed to be a Visual Kei star apparently and well what is any type of rock star without hoards of fans, going nuts at their concert. The background I used for this photo, I have used a lot as it always makes me think rock star. It is not actually a traditional backdrop but rather my favorite hoody (I do not dress subtley, I guess one could say).

Yesterday I thought I would be doll making most of the day but, other things consumed my day.

I was preparing for Thanksgiving as I will be working the day before and after Thanksgiving.

I was able to “lay the foundation” for today.

I prepared the fabrics and finished creating the pattern and cut the pieces out.
