Um clássico!

Talvez esse nome não diga nada à maioria das pessoas. Mas eu nunca esquecerei daquela tarde de terça-feira depois de enfrentar a longa maratona “Escola-Videoshow-Vale a Pena Ver de Novo” (a novela era Pedra Sobre Pedra) quando a inimitável Sessão da Tarde apresentou este clássico para mim pela primeira vez: Mestres do Universo.

Possivelmente alguém já saiba do que estou falando e possivelmente já fez a associação. Mestres do Universo é a adaptação cinematográfica de outra maravilha da infância, o seriado animado He-Man, o guerreiro de Greyskull, aquele que tem a força quando a espada está erguida.

O motivo da lembrança foi trombar com este filme e perceber coisas que me escapavam na época como toda a sua roupagaem kitsch, sua história sem pé nem cabeça e seu elenco estelar.

Primeiro a história: o vilão Esqueleto toma o castelo de Greyskull e quer o poder absoluto do lugar. He-Man e as forças do bem, acuadas, fogem através de um portal mágico e acabam parando em… Los Angeles! Lá, He-Man e seus amigos precisam achar a chave do portal perdida pela cidade, bolar um plano para voltarem a Eternia e derrotar Esqueleto. Só que Esqueleto também consegue uma chave do portal e localiza He-Man. Esqueleto vai até Los Angeles (dizendo assim parece que ele pegou um avião, mas é muito mais irado) e captura He-Man. Seu amigos precisam, então, com a ajuda dos humanos, voltar a Eternia e libertar He-Man para que este acabe com Esqueleto. Pura dramaturgia dos filmes de fantasia.

Cara, muitas coisas são inesquecíveis: os cenários de Eternia com toda a sua opulência e cafonice, que depois influenciariam Power Rangers: o Filme; os figurinos e objetos pensados como uma mistura kitsch de ficção científica e medievalismo de Dungeons & Dragons (o ponto alto é a chave do portal: um daqueles potes que se usava para jogar aquele negócio da vareta com bolinhas de gude pintado de preto com uns botões e metais que faziam sonzinho de sintetizador mequetrefe e umas luzinhas meio gays); os cabelos e roupas dos californianos dos anos 80, que sempre despertam um misto de euforia e constrangimento; e claro a pergunta que não quer calar: que caralhos foi essa idéia de colocar He-Man em Los Angeles?!

A cereja do bolo é o elenco. Eu não tinha idéia de quem eram essas pessoas na época que vi pela primeira vez, mas hoje a ficha de estrelas sob a batuta de Gary Goddard (um parente distante do mestre do cinema françês?) diz muita coisa. A começar por Dolph Lundgren, o gigante huno, o Ivan Drago de Rocky IV, o primeiro a interpretar o Justiceiro no cinema e o vilão de Soldado Universal, de Van Damme. O vilão Esqueleto é ninguém mais, ninguém menos que Frank Langella, ator importante do teatro americano, indicado ao Oscar deste ano pelo papel de Richard Nixon em Frost/Nixon. Fora isso, quando He-Man perde a chave do portal em Los Angeles, esta é encontrada por uma jovem representada por… Courtney Cox, a Monica de Friends, cuja mãe no seriado é Christina Pickles, a Feiticeira do Castelo de Greyskull neste filme.

E para fechar com chave de ouro, James Tolkan. Não é fácil associar o nome à pessoa, mas com certeza você já viu este cara em algum lugar. Ele sempre é o coadjuvante representante das forças oficiais que, no fim das contas, é só a peça descaratável dentro de um contexto muuuuuito maior.

Tolkan é o Napoleão (e o sósia do imperador) no filme de Woody Allen de 1975, A Última Noite de Boris Grushenko, e o oficial Stinger em Top Gun. Contudo, ele é bem mais conhecido como Sr. Strickland, o diretor do colégio de Hill Valley em De Volta Para o Futuro.

Aqui, ele é o policial de Los Angeles que vê a guerra entre o bem e o mal e não desconfia que isso é mais do que apenas um bando de arruaceiros causando desordem. É o alívio cômico, o policial pateta.

Tolkan é um típico eterno coadjuvante. E dos mais xiitas. Podemos dizer que ele é um grande ator? Não. Ou então que ele será lembrado pela história do cinema como alguém de primeira grandeza? Também não. Mas é de atores como James Tolkan que nossos filmes preferidos da Sessão da Tarde são tão inesquecíveis.

Pra fechar um pedido. Ou melhor, uma súplica: não deixem clássicos como Mestres do Universo morrer. É o mínimo que podemos fazer por estas pérolas da cultura ocidental que nos alegraram durante tantas tardes. Se achar o DVD compre; se não, baixe na net. Só não deixe os poderes de Greyskull se acabar.

El  siempre recordado  Jean Claude Van Damme regresa a los grandes planos del cine  en una de las cintas que si bien llego despues de Contacto Sangriento o  Doble Impacto, si es una de las más recordadas por los fans de las películas de acción, asi pues, el buen Jean Claude vuelve junto a otro mítico actor de las películas de accion: Dolph Lundgren en un papel que también lo vuelve inmortal entre los fans del género, ambos artistas vuelven en Universal Soldier: Regeneration, dirigida por John Hyams, además esta película cuenta con la participación del pelear de MMA Andrei Arlovski, este filme se presentó este 2009 en el Fantastic  Fest de Austin Texas, y se espera que sulanzamiento directamente en DVD  y Blu- Ray  en los USA sea el 5 de Enero de 2010

Sweet. Mother. of. Pearl. I just found something that got me all hot and bothered. For everyone that remembers the 90’s, I’m sure you remember a movie called Universal Soldier. And boy oh boy, if you haven’t seen that trailer yet, please click over there. I swear, you won’t be disappointed (check out the sound effects and the dialogue. Perfection at its finest.)

Well, I came across the trailer below for Universal Soldier: Regeneration, and all I can say is: Wow.

If the trailer wasn’t enough to give you chills, a synopsis of the plot will definitely tickle your pickle:

With stolen top-secret technology, terrorists have created a next-generation Universal Soldier – an elite fighter genetically altered into a programmable killing machine. With this “UniSol” (Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei “The Pit Bull” Arlovski) leading the way, they seize the crippled Chernobyl nuclear reactor, threatening to unleash a lethal radioactive cloud. Terrorists? Check. Diabolical plot? Check. Chernobyl? Check. Former UFC champ, Dolph Lundgren, and JCVD? Omg – check, check, check! I don’t understand how this movie can go wrong! Well according to IMDB, it’s a decent movie. That has got to be a joke!

This and The Expendables?! There is something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving!

Ever since the third year of engineering came into the picture, the thought of doing something different always had passed my mind. Now this obviously has come at a rather surprising time, taking into consideration that the third year is not always that time you would have all the time in the world. For instance , way back in July, i had planned for a meticulous schedule of gym, study and tennis. Now not all things fell into place, considering that academics has never been my cup of tea, neither the idea of getting a body such as ivan draga has materialized into the bonehead thick skull of mine. For the next few months I planned on working out , playing tennis and then concentrate on a familiar known domain Academics. I wanted perfect chiseled abs like the character Dolph plays in Rocky 4, but unlike him, I dont have any fights lined up with Rocky Balboa. Oh yeah people ! i root for the antagonist here. Draga has sort of become of my nickname and I am proud of it ! Well , about the resemblances .. Ahem , moving on …

Heavens ! This picture is so damn sexy [I am not gay if that is what you are thinking] that this just makes up for a great poster and is still an awesome display of chiseled perfection that I really have the mind to upload it again .

See the trick ! In the self proclaimed ‘The God of small things’ book of mine , happiness sure does conjure up uploading photos of draga twice.  The point is – How many of us have been spellbound by the workouts of Sylvester Stallone from Rocky ? Or be transfixed by the exploits of Gerard Bulter in 300  ? And how many of us have let laziness take over our psyche ? Well the fact still remains. Now the effect of seeing a Rocky movie and its awesome training can yield anything , absolutely anything but a goose egg. And when the thoughts of possessing a body such as Dolphie seeped into the mind of mine, it has got to have after effects. I remember once I had to be taken into the doctor for a swollen right arm. No kidding guys ! I am really a fanatic. But in the simple sense , All good things come to a break , if not the legendary end. And so when Life’s simple pleasures consist of uploading Dolph Lundgren’s picture twice, it can also consist of wowing on a picture of this. And then all that inspired frenzy over getting Dolphie’s abs and biceps all come to a weird break, if not end. The goddess thronged as my desktop wallpaper for more than 2 summers until my 3Ghz baby gave me the cold shoulder for not having paid attention to the other quite charming creations of God. My question is – Why God Why ? ..  Why does such angelic creations of God have to be juxtaposed to the imaginary backyard of random cuppers ?  And hence I waste another idyllic setting on what could have been a productive use of cardio workouts , or atleast cerebrum teasers. My good friend Ajay had a question transfixing the myths of modern and pre-historic mankind. Do all the awesome creations of God need understanding? what is their purpose then ? Such questions form an ideal backlight in the rather chaotic thick headed skull of mine. Now, me being in a residential institute , there are no martinets around to keep tabs on me, and the cycle of Karma repeats. The sinking comfort of laziness.The balancing of the equation. I slip into day-dreaming. One of my most favourite totally unproductive pastime. Voila. The contradiction – Me day dreaming led to one productive thing- this post. Now then again, what was this post about ? Ahem Ahem ……

“Soldado Universal” (1992) supuso la unión de Jean Claude Van Damme y Dolph Lundgren en la misma película. Pero el actor belga volvió a ese mundo, donde los militares conseguían soldados casi indestructibles, en “Soldado Universal: El Retorno”, siete años después. En esta ocasión sin Iván Drago. Incluso hay un Soldado Universal 2 y 3 que salieron del horno directamente para televisión (una de ellas con el incombustible Burt Reynolds.

Pero no nos engañemos. No era lo mismo sin Van Damme. “Soldado Universal” es una de las películas (si me equivoco que me rectifiquen los fans del actor) más queridas por sus seguidores. Y en parte no les falta razón. Así que si Rocky volvió al ring, Rambo tambien tuvo su nueva ración de muertes, las Spice Girls se subieron al escenario años después de su ruptura y los Héroes del Silencio tuvieron una gira hace un par de años, ¿por qué no iba a volver Van Damme a poner las cosas en su sitio?. Y para más inri recuperando a su enemigo en la primera parte, Dolph Lundgren.

Algunos lo han criticado porque dijo en su momento, a raiz de “JCVD”, que iba a dar un giro a su carrera. Supuestamente alejado del género que lo catapultó a la fama. Pero dudo mucho que sus fans más acérrimos le hagan ascos volver a verlo en una película de acción.

Así que veamos el trailer de la nueva entrega de “Soldado Universal”.

Who’s ideas was this? Sony, of course. Jean Claude Vam Damme and Dolph Lundgren go at it again, this time its straight-to-DVD.

I guess it was inevitable that once the flood gates of UFC fighters jumping out of the Octagon and into other media outlets started, there would be no holding back more and more fighters from taking a stab at the acting bug.  Of course, I never in a million years would have expected the Eastern Block werewolf himself, Belarusian Andre Arlovski to show up in a flick, much less a sequel to a cheesy, fan favorite action flick side by side with  it’s two original stars.  But then I saw this:

JCVD, Dolph Lundgren, AND Arlovski?  You can feel the cheese bubbling forth already… Sold.

Remember back in June when I spoke of the new proposed Universal Soldier film? Yeah well, lethargics need just press this to be warped to the zone of June when it was posted. I’m also using the same picture from that post as, hey, lethargy rules, brother. Rock on.

Turns out my prediction was indeed wrong too, as this trailer suggests there’s going to be a lot of fighting and bad dialogue throughout. I sense a pattern in the series. After the official synopsis will be the trailer, and after that will be….some chicken? I’m hungry.

Jean Claude Van Damme is back and this time he is bringing Dolph Lundgren with him for a third Universal Soldier movie! I remember watching the first Universal Soldier movie as a kid and I thinking it was awesome. I remember watching the second Universal Soldier movie as a teen and thinking it was shit because Goldberg was like 100-0 at the time and no way Jean Claude Van Damme could beat him. And now I am going to get to see Universal Soldier: Regeneration as a young adult and it’s going to be the swing vote on the series. I can’t wait for this to come out on DVD, and I say DVD because it’s not going to theatres at all. Which is fine by me because I don’t want people to see me watch this movie in public.

On se demandait tous pourquoi Van Damme avait refusé de jouer dans The Expendables: Il avait un meilleur plan.

Pour parfaire le côté série b on rajoute un autre gros musclé: Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski. Oui ok moi non plus je connaissais pas, c’est un ancien combattant de l’UFC (ultimate fighting championship).

Abbiamo cominciato settimana scorsa una lunga e dolorosa discesa negli inferi delle produzione cinematografiche a soggetto supereroistico. Insomma, i film brutti tratti dai fumetti. Se volete scoprire quanto si può cadere in basso, continuate a leggere e puppatevi un’escalation di terrore dalla posizione numero 12 alla 10. Oddio che ansia.

12 The Punisher, Jonathan Hensleigh, 2004

Qualcuno si ricorda il vecchio film sul Punitore con Dolph Lundgren senza manco il teschio sulla maglia? Dai, quello che in italiano non si sa per quale motivo è uscito con il titolo Il Vendicatore… C’è anche una sequenza dove si vede un telegiornale, un anchorman che parla di tale Vendicatore e dietro di lui c’è una scritta gigante: Punisher… No, per dire l’accurataggine con cui era fatto… Eh? Ve lo ricordate? Eh? Era brutto… Ma questo è peggio. Si prende un altro biondo (Thomas Jane) lo si tinge di nero, gli si mette un teschio sul vestito (almeno quello…) e poi si fa di tutto per rovinare la saga Bentornato, Frank, quella di Ennis e Dillon. E tra un pezzo dei Nickelback e uno del chitarrista degli Evanescence, ce la si fa alla grande. Ad uscirne peggio di tutti è proprio il Punitore, qui snaturato in ogni sua caratteristica, soprattutto – diciamo così – “psicologica”. John Travolta, nella parte del cattivo, è semplicemente deprimente. Per la cronaca l’ultimo film dedicato al personaggio, The Punisher War Zone, massacrato ovunque dalla critica e da noi uscito direttamente in dvd, non è per niente male. Cioè, a confronto sembra un film di Orson Welles e a questo ci straspezza la schiena. Non a caso si è dovuti ripartire da zero… Per farvi capire quante cazzate si possono dire in un film, vediamo come ce li cava a spiegare tutto quello che muove Frank Castle nella sua vendetta cieca e senza fine in soli 32 fottutissimi secondi.

11 X-Men le origini – Wolverine, Gavin Hood, 2009

Diciamolo subito, hanno fatto un brutto casino con Deadpool. Un bruttissimo casino. Non è nemmeno un film discreto in cui han fatto un bruttissimo casino con Deadpool, oppure un film che raggiunge a mala pena la sufficenza in cui han fatto un bruttissimo casino con Deadpool, no, è un grosso film di merda in cui han fatto un bruttissimo casino con Deadpool. E dire che dietro c’è la penna del romanziere/sceneggiatore de la 25esima ora di Spike Lee. Al famoso monologo di Norton davanti lo specchio andrebbe aggiunto “Fanculo te! Sceneggiatore, produttore, regista di Hollywood che quando si ritrova ad dover fare un film sui Super Eroi, invece di attingere da quelle migliaia di ottime storie, si inventa cazzate dal nulla, rovinandomi la giornata ed il mio megasecchio di popcorn”

Perchè diamine Deadpool assomiglia a Voldemort sotto steroidi con un giochino della settimana enigmistica sul petto? Perchè?

(Girano voci sul fatto che in un probabile Wolverine 2 o spin-off su Deadpool si scoprirà che il pelato di cui sopra non sia in realtà Wide Wilson)

10 The Spirit, Frank Miller, 2008

La totale e definitiva perdita di credibilità per un uomo che per un certo periodo è stato nei nostri cuori… come dire: la conferma della fine di Frank Miller passa sicuramente attraverso questo film. Dopo essere stato incoronato dal grande Will Eisner come suo successore e custode dei segreti della non arte, Miller è riuscito a scontentare chiunque facendo trasparire per altro anche una certa cattiva fede. In barba a qualsiasi rispetto per la fonte originale, al personaggio The Spirit viene applicato in laboratorio il trattamento Sin City (vi ricordate? Si può fare lo stesso anche a Charlie Brown… ) . Il risultato si commenta da solo. Se già il passaggio da carta stampata a grande schermo era stata non priva di difetti per Marv e compagni, figuriamoci in questo caso. Dopo dieci minuti passa la voglia di vivere anche al più entusiasta degli spettatori e l’idea di una possibile uscita in sala di Sin City 2 e Sin City 3 mette paura. Deligato… Fortunatamente non è piaciuto praticamente a nessuno per cui forse Frank Miller per un po’ la smetterà di essere definito un Autore visionario. Ma ne dubito.

Parte 1: dalla 15 alla 13

Um mal ein wenig Abwechslung einzubringen, heute kein Film mit Seagal, sondern mit Dolph Lundgren. Läuft aber eigentlich auf’s Gleiche hinaus:

Dolph Lundgren hat in den letzten Jahren gezeigt, dass auch B-Movies durchaus unterhaltsam sein können. Ähnlich wie Jean-Claude Van Damme dreht auch er ab und zu noch passable Filme für Action-Fans. „Direct Contact“ gehört leider nicht dazu.

Über die völlig bescheuerte Verschwörungsgeschichte möchte ich nicht all zu viele Worte verlieren. Sie ist so unspannend wie eh und je und erfüllt zu dem jedes nur erdenkliche Klischee.

Die Dialoge allerdings übertreffen das Ganze in Sachen Dummheit noch mal. Was die Darsteller teilweise für einen Schwachsinn von sich geben ist wirklich nicht mehr feierlich. Der Höhepunkt ist die Szene, in der der Oberbösewicht die Militärakte des Helden durchliest. Was er daraufhin von sich gibt, ist selbst für einen B-Movie extrem peinlich.
Die Darsteller versuchen zum Großteil auch gar nicht erst gegen das katastrophale Drehbuch anzukämpfen. Sie reißen ihre Rollen lustlos herunter. Einzige Ausnahme hierbei bildet Dolph Lundgren, der von Anfang an vollen Einsatz zeigt.

Was dem Film, trotz all seiner Schwächen, noch einen gewissen Unterhaltungswert hätte geben können, sind die Action-Szenen. Doch auch hier ist nicht viel zu holen. Regisseur Danny Lerner schafft zwar die ein oder andere passable Schießerei, doch die meiste Zeit über zerstört der übertriebene Einsatz von Zeitlupe jedes Aufkommen von richtiger Action. Der stümperhafte Schnitt, der für so manchen Anschlussfehler sorgt, tut sein übrigens dazu, um die Action-Szenen endgültig zur Lachnummer verkommen zu lassen. Auch die häufigen Verfolgungsjagden lassen jedes Gespür für Tempo vermissen und langweilen den Zuschauer zu Tode.
Diesen Schwachpunkt wiederum versucht der Film mit übertrieben viel Blut auszugleichen, was aber nicht gelingt.

Für Hardcore-Fans von Lundgren und Konsorten dürfte „Direct Contact“ durchaus einen Blick Wert sein, alle anderen sollten die Finger von diesem Machwerk lassen.

SVT har börjat släppa bomberna kring Melodifestivalen. Tidigare presenterades första jokern och i förra veckan programledarna i festivalen. Snabbt la jag pusslet och i flera dagar har jag väntat spänt på att någon ska lösa gåtan. Det går vad det verkar inget vidare. Så i vanlig ordning blir det jag som får bära Sherlocks hatt.

Dolph Lundgren är programledare i år. Tillsammans med Måns Zelmerlöw. Och Darin är den hittills enda avslöjade jokern i år. De har naturligtvis inget gemensamt. Eller? Jo då. Kolla klippen…

När Zelmerlöw inte kunde medverka i reklamen fick MQ nöja sig med flickvännen Marie Serneholt som då blev joker redan förra året men till Melodifestivalen lyckas nu SVT genomföra grundidén.

Och tittar man närmare på det så blir det ännu mer intressant. Nyfiken på resterande jokrar? MQ radar upp nomineringarna…

Dogge Doggelito har skrivit en av årets låtar. Jessica Andersson sägs vara klar som medverkande. Och det är förvisso bara rykten, men rykten som viskar om A camp med Nina Persson som en av jokrarna. Osannolikt? Visst. Men i sammanhanget lustigt.

Lägg därtill superskrällen Andreas Wilson som överraskar med stort sångmässigt i reklamen och en efterlängtad comeback av textkungen Wille Crafoord och festivalen blir möjligen något att se framemot även i år.

En festival som verkar bli en längre version av MQ:s julkampanj 2008.

With your usual host in New York it falls to Tom and Producer John to take over the show. With Sam out of the picture for an episode we decided to run a feature on video games, perhaps to rekindle the fleeting romance that was our ill-fated other podcast, the Games Overdose.

So join us for a discussion of the absurdity of The Men Who Stare At Goats, a discussion of the absurdity of Monopoly as a movie and the absurdity of Avatar’s budget of circa $500,000,000. Just writing $500m doesn’t seem to do it justice, you need to put all the zeroes in there to convey that it is half a billion dollars.

We also have a chat about some Will Smith casting news, the merits of Babylon 5 and reminisce about the good old days where Roland Emmerich was content in just blowing up small cities and monuments in Independence Day, as a precursor to his disaster porn epic 2012.

Then we get on to our main feature and discuss the dearth of video game adaptations. Where have all the good ones gone? Could Prince of Persia and the red carpet treatment of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 act as the catalysts for a new generation of video game and movie crossovers?

Si bien hasta ahora no hay nada confirmado para esta cinta – ni siquiera una fecha de lanzamiento – lo cierto es que los rumores de la nueva versión de Conan siguen corriendo. La sorpresa de esta semana vino de boca del director Marcus Nispel, que aseguró que si bien quiere que el protagónico quede en manos de alguien poco conocido, está interesado en llamar a Dolph Lundgren para participar, aunque no dio a conocer en qué papel. Obviamente, es un movimiento arriesgado, pues es muy posible que el principal quede de pronto opacado por su segundo, y más si tiene detrás un nombre con tanto peso como el de este actor.

Yesterday I was riding in a car with my friends Ty and Chris. Everyone knows Ty and has called him Tito since high school. One time his dad f*cked up and called him T-Bone. Luckily it never stuck. In college, Ty proclaimed himself as the Spoon and then eventually the Mayor. This came after he Youtubed three hours of old McDonald’s commercials featuring Mayor McCheese. He loved it. These days, I call him Ty D but he prefers T. Jackson or The Hate F*ck (it was his facebook name until it was censored) or The Ol’ Boy. Whatever you call him, he is a lovely and fair skinned gentleman.

Chris, who was also in the car, was once known as Dolph Lundgren after his uncanny resemblance to the Siberian Bull from the movie Rocky IV. Recently and unknowingly he was nicknamed Carrots by my wife, J-Dubs. J-Dubs has been called Wooten or Hot Pants and J Maz.  She has a myriad of friends like Skirt Steak and Droopy Nipple. Droopy Nipple used to work at Applebee’s where she rated highest in customer satisfaction. Apparently, her tips reflected her performance and she became known as Boosty Tipple or BT for short which evolved into Burny Tits and then Swink.

My other friend is Sizzle Bok who dressed as a Mexican named Johnny Gomez for a costume party. My brother is Milhouse, Milkill, Milshoe, Shoe, Shoehouse, Millie and, from a misspelling on his high school letter jacket, Millhouse.  I know Jim Jam and Rik.  I have a friend Jake the Snake.  One named J. Pa. and Blum (sounds like bloom).  Blum hangs out with Nelson and Steve B.  Gary is one.  Teens is another.  Goldy, Chesty and Slitty Wrists.  S Mas and his son, X Mas.  J Leezy for sheezy.  Drary.  The Boss, Champ or Curty.  Petey and Wheels and Lamby Poo.  Jay Nev. Teddy Po.  I saw J.R. Swish on TV.  Oh, and for me…they call me Wolsamnoraa (not really, though) which is part Russian and, as I found out today from my mother and her husband, Papa Paul, part French which translates as Special Boy.  And that’s all I can think of right now.  Did I miss one?  Fill me in.

This is where I got the name McStainy. My dry cleaner, Mr. Wong, is such a goof.

With your usual host in New York it falls to Tom and Producer John to take over the show. With Sam out of the picture for an episode we decided to run a feature on video games, perhaps to rekindle the fleeting romance that was our ill-fated other podcast, the Games Overdose.

So join us for a discussion of the absurdity of The Men Who Stare At Goats, a discussion of the absurdity of Monopoly as a movie and the absurdity of Avatar’s budget of circa $500,000,000. Just writing $500m doesn’t seem to do it justice, you need to put all the zeroes in there to convey that it is half a billion dollars.

We also have a chat about some Will Smith casting news, the merits of Babylon 5 and reminisce  about the good old days where Roland Emmerich was content in just blowing up small cities and monuments in Independence Day, as a precursor to his disaster porn epic 2012.

Then we get on to our main feature and discuss the dearth of video game adaptations. Where have all the good ones gone? Could Prince of Persia and the red carpet treatment of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 act as the catalysts for a new generation of video game and movie crossovers?
