I’m sorry to say this, but I don’t know what specific dome I am picturing here. I do know that it is one of the art museums in Berlin, Germany. The structure was beautiful and the art was even better.

Today is public holiday! Yoohoo! 3 BEST FRIENDS (my mum, my bro, me) and my mum’s best friend as well, went for lunch at town. Initially, we plan for buffet lunch at E&O because my mum just sign up for their membership programmed which is quite costful. But they only have international buffet lunch, doesn’t really go well with our apetite. My mum suggest for Ichiban. Aparently she heard from her boss, ms l that you just have to pay RM35++, eat till you drop sashimi! WOW!

When we arrive at Ichiban restaurant, sat down on the table and see the menu (it’s a ala carte japanese buffet), there is just one issue pop into my mind, “can we leave?” HAHA! From excited to the urge for leaving that restaurant, the menu is definitely the key point to change my mind. Its so little choices and not-really-good-japanese-foods. Not really special at all! But just when I want to suggest to leave, the waitress already place 4 cups of japanese green tea in front of us. What can we do?!

One thing I’m glad is we just choose RM35++ package although in this package we were entitled to only one round of sashimi, the other RM48++ package is unlimited sashimi. Very wise of them to introduce the customer the RM48++ package in the beginning! As I mentioned just now, we are so lucky to choose RM35++ package because the sashimi is not so fresh at all! The food delivery time was so so so so so so so so so so so longgggggggg. And I really mean it. I’m so sorry to say the foods is not nice and not impressive. During the feedback time, when the staff handed me the form, on the coming-back section, I’ve choosed definitely not coming back. I feel so sorry but the foods were not  good in term of quality and if they didn’t make any changes, I feel quite bad for them.

After the lunch, we went for a walk at gurney plaze! My bro was like da shao ye, haha! Try clothes here and there and present his luxurious-lifestyle pose! Well, he is just very good in enjoying life and lead a happy life. To be honest, I’m quite happy for him and kinda admire his carefree style. Maybe he did have some worries, but if it’s so, I would be more impressed as he handle it well enough. Unlike some people, they will just put it on their face and affect people around them. You should take care of people feelings instead of thinking about how to let the anger off on others. Anger is nothing but a Danger!!!

I’m very full today as after japanese buffet lunch, I went for DOME to high-tea, and went for chu char for dinner!

I’m thanks for my parents! I thank God the most for giving me peaceful and happy family!

i first heard of YEASAYER from the compilation DARK WAS THE NIGHT.  it was their song entitled, “Tightrope“.  so fun.  i sent to dugan right away.  we had a dance party in my room with that song on repeat over and over again for hours with me and like 6 of my closest guy friends.

today…that song is still one of my faves.

as i was searching around PITCHFORK for new music and new music videos to get inspired by….YEASAYER released their music video of their new single, “Ambling Alp“.  it’s dripping with surreality.  i can’t embed the video here in my post…but i can link you to PITCHFORK’s review.  what do you think?  i likey alot.  YEASAYER is doing good things for my earholes and eyeballs.

Are Dome Stadiums a worthwhile public investment?…Not likely?

Toronto’s Skydome, built for $580 million, was bought for $151 million in 1994, bought again for $80 million in 1999, and bought yet again for $25 million in 2004.

And that is in the middle of Canada’s largest market – not downtown Regina…

After being poorly (I feel a lot better more of the time now) I have had the urge to clean the house meticulously and start creating decorations and presents for Christmas. I am rather excited about Christmas this year; I am never really over-the-top excited about it, but this Christmas will be the first in our new house! I put the tree up last night… a lot of people have said that it is far too early, but my family is coming to celebrate Christmas a week early, so why cant I put the tree up a week early!? It is just inspiration standing in the corner now, I cant wait to start putting presents under it.

Yesterday Ryan came home with a new frying pan, which was on sale in Debenhams:

So this led me on to looking at all the kitchenware that Debenhams sell… There are quite a few things that I love, which I am sure you can get elsewhere too, just they are all bundled together in one shop! Here are my selections:

1. Dark grey Roast ‘n Rack by Maxim – I love making roast dinners so much, but I still dont really have the roasting trays for all the ingredients.

2. Cream plate with glass dome lid – I just love the aesthetic of having this in the kitchen with cakes under it!

3. Teal rectangular stoneware dish by Le Creuset – maybe for pasta bakes

4. Cream stove kettle by Prestige – I adore the lines and the shapes that make up these retro-style kettles. I even love the fact you have to put it on the stove, so amazing! There are some of the same/similar style that are electric, but its not really the same thing is it. We also need an upgrade from the £6 kettle I bought a few years ago from Woolworths haha!

5. Azure cast iron casserole dish By Le Creuset – for casseroles of course. Winter is drawing in and I am always a sucker for homemade comfort food. For some reason all the Le Creuset items I have picked here bar one are in blue; I actually like all and any of the colours in the range that they make.

6. Ken Hom 5 piece Wok set by Tao – because I dont have a wok, and I really feel like trying to make stir fry and chinese style chicken.

7. Teal cast iron 26cm square grillit by Le Creuset – because it would make amazing steaks, and you can pour out the juices from the pan afterwards… mmmmm!

8. Spring form cake pan by Kitchen Craft – because I have none!

9. Volcanic regular cast iron grill by Le Creuset – I believe you can either put this in the oven, or as a hot plate on the stove… I love that idea.

10. 5 piece stainless steel set by Prestige – because all of my pans are leaving black flakes in my pasta yuk! Not necessarily this set, but something similar that wont ruin my food.

11. Blue Icona 4 slice toaster by De Longhi – so yummy looking! And blue again… why!?? We need an upgrade from the £5 toaster from Woolworths I bought 3 years ago…

12. 14cm microwave saucepan – when I saw this I thought of Ryan. He always eats beans, and always cooks them in Tupperware pots without handles or spouts, and it looks like a very awkward process to try not to burn your fingers, so this could be ideal!

13. Assam teapot by Bodum – I am never any good at judging how long to leave teabags to steep in the water before pouring, and it either comes out too weak or too strong. So… if I can see what is going on inside the pot I will be ok! It also has a plunger to stop the process when it is right for you, and you can use teabags or leaves and it works!

14. Cream food mixer by KitchenAid – how gorgeous is this machine! We have one in the kitchen at the bar that I work at, I might see if they will sell it to me as it is not really in use.

I am also in the process of designing some quilted Christmas stockings for myself and Ryan, to hang on the wall (where the mantel should be if the house still had one), some knitted presents for my grandparents, maybe some other presents too, and some decorations for the house! I am thinking garlands, and wreaths, and paper chains of course.

Ryan is dying my hair for me tonight, so if I think I look semi-unpoorly afterwards I shall take a photo and paste it to the end of this blog.

Last night, i accepted an invitation to see the World’s Greatest Wrestler, Hulk Hogan! A friend of mine, Ben Rosenthal, is a massive wrestling enthusiast/nerd, and has been trying to drag me to a ‘fight’ for years. “But it’s fake, and the result is pre-determined, so what’s the point?” i’d say to him. To which, he’d reply (in blog form of course);

Ask yourself a question; Do you go to the movies?  Were you entertained by it?  Guess what, movies are FAKE!  Read a good non-fiction book recently, like Lord of The Rings or Wayne Carey’s autobiography – FAKE!  My point being, just because you know something isn’t real doesn’t mean you cannot be entertained by it.  Wrestling, just like tv, books and movies, is an escape from the day to day drull that is life.  For an hour or two you can boo the evil bad guys, cheer the wholesome good guys, or be confused by the tweeners (wrestling lingo).

Thanks Ben, NOW GET THE HELL OUT OF MY BLOG! 

He actually makes a pretty good point. I cheer for Batman at the movies. I cheer for Dexter on the television. I cheer for Team Jacob when i’m reading…..err….i mean, nothing. *clears throat*

My night at the wrestling was hilarious. Before the wrestlers get down to business in the ‘fight’, they partake in a 10 minute role play. They call each other names, they flex their muscles, they tell their opponent what they plan to do to them, and they flex their muscles. Did i mention the muscle flexing? Cool. It’s kind of like the dialogue in a porn film before they get down to business. Only the acting in porn is more believable. 

The ‘fight’ itself is even funnier. Chess is more of a contact sport than wrestling. A three count with your opponent on the floor equals victory. The referee will count to two and a half at least ten times per ‘fight’. Apparently this is suspenseful. They stamp their feet on the mat for sound as they throw faux-punches that rarely land within a metre of the target. The crowd cheers. The crowd boo’s. One of them is hit over the head with a chair that looks suspiciously like it’s made out of cardboard, and then a winner is announced. Pretty simple formula really. 

This year, inspired by the Danny Wallace book ‘Yes Man’, i’ve decided to say yes to more opportunities. Last month i went to a Britney Spears concert. There, i said it. This blog is fast becoming a form of therapy. But it brings me to my new game (drumroll), welcome to HULK, BRITNEY, OR BOTH? Simply pick one of those three options for each of the following;

- Performed in front of thousands of people at the Burswood Dome?

- Provided a fake performance?

- Failed to speak to their fans once?

- Had a show with an abundance of leather, lycra, knee high boots, sequins and exposed nipples?

- Main drawcard was a slightly out of shape blonde thing waddling awkwardly around a stage?

If you answered ‘Both’ to all of the above, congratulations, you’re absolutely correct!

Duo join forces to bring series to screen

Variety/Cynthia Littleton—It’s a potent combination: Stephen + Steven

Stephen King and Steven Spielberg are joining forces to develop a limited series based on King’s just-released supernatural thriller “Under the Dome.” DreamWorks TV has optioned the book and is looking to set it up as an event series, likely for cable. DreamWorks principal Stacey Snider was key in bringing the project to the company. Spielberg, King and Snider will exec produce along with DreamWorks TV chiefs Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. The book, which has earned strong reviews as a return to form for the prolific author, revolves around the drama that unfolds after an invisible force field suddenly descends on a small vacation town in Maine. As the locals fight for their survival, the town descends into warring factions led by enigmatic characters.

DreamWorks is starting to meet with writers for the project. The plan is to set a writer before shopping the skein to prospective buyers.

Spielberg and King have worked together in the past, developing a screen adaptation of King’s 1984 novel “The Talisman,” on which Spielberg has had the option for more than 20 years. That project has been developed as a feature, and it came close to being done as a mini for TNT a few years ago until it was tabled for budgetary reasons.

The “Dome” deal continues a burst of activity on the smallscreen side for Spielberg and DreamWorks TV. Among the high-profile projects in the works is a series about the development of a fictional Broadway tuner for Showtime. Another Showtime contender is a costume-drama revolving around the Borgia clan, penned by Neil Jordan and with Robert Zemeckis also producing.

Christmas came early this year for the town of Cardiff. The newest, and one of the largest shopping centre’s in the UK, St. Davids 2 opened its doors to over 10,000 people on opening day. The development will bring new stores, cafes, bars, restaurants, and luxury residential apartments to the heart of Cardiff.

Element domes provided a 36ft dome to house 10 reindeers, the events team created a snow scape pen in which the public could come and experience the animals close up. The dome was placed right in the heart of Cardiff and stopped people in their tracks as they entered into the new complex.

Overall the clients were extremely happy and stated that the effect was perfect for the venue, location and purpose of the event.

Following a lovely first evening in Hiroshima, featuring our first taste of delicious okonomiyaki and a trip to the ‘Dreamination’ light sculpture festival on Peace Boulevard, we were still gushing about what a delight Hiroshima is as we walked through Peace Memorial Park – all fountains, polished granite and forgiveness – and up to the A-Bomb Dome. The Dome was one of the only buildings left standing by the Atomic Bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima at 8.15am on August 6, 1945. Although it was gutted by the bomb and subsequent fires, most of the structure still stands and is preserved by the city of Hiroshima and UNESCO as it looked immediately after the blast, including the debris collected around the base of the building. As upsetting as this sight is, the music wafting over from some flautists performing across the river did something to take the edge off.

While we were at the Dome we were approached by a woman (we later learned that her name was Machiko Yamaoka) who wanted to give us a free tour. Her mother, she explained, was a hibakusha (A-bomb survivor) and had recently gotten sick. As she was no longer well enough to tell her own story, Michiko felt that it was now her responsibility to make people aware of Hiroshima’s past and the importance of the city’s quest to eliminate all of the world’s nuclear weapons.  And so our tour of the other, less peaceful, less happy-smiley Hiroshima began.

Michiko’s mother had been outside the city when the bomb exploded but her sister was not so lucky so she rushed into the city to find her. It took her a week to track her down and take her home, where she soon died. While she was combing the streets, she saw exactly what hell looks like and Michiko’s bedtime stories seem to have been anything but the norm as a result. As painful as it was, her mother felt the importance of teaching her children about the horrors of war.

She told her about people wandering the streets, their skin literally melting off as they walked. Other people, burned beyond recognition and parched with thirst, went in search of water – jumping into the river and water tanks, only to send their bodies into immediate and fatal shock, leaving every source of water strewn with decaying bodies. One woman was walking around with her baby still strapped to her back. She had not yet noticed that her child, black with soot, had already perished.

On our tour of the city, Michiko showed us the hospital that was at the epicenter of the blast and the shop where one lucky man had wandered down to the basement for papers and, protected by a wall of steel and water, had emerged to find every building for blocks completely flattened. She also showed us the graveyard nearby which had survived although the marble headstones had little holes punched in them – in three seconds the immense heat of the blast (6,000 degrees Celsius) had done what takes 20 seconds with a blowtorch in a workshop.

Dazed and more than a little grateful to our obliging tour guide, we headed for the Peace Memorial Museum, wondering how the picture could get any bleaker. But it did. After a strange entrance building outlining, in ridiculous detail, Japan’s entire military history, we got to the main exhibition space. Here there were various items on display, from baby clothes to bits of skin and warped roof tiles, each of which was attached to a placard outlining its origin. Walking from one to one it was pretty difficult not to give up all hope for the future of humanity and sit on the floor crying. This tricycle was one particularly upsetting example:

The placard said:

Shinuchi Tetsuntani (then 3 years 11 months old) loved to ride his tricycle. That morning, he was riding in front of his house when, in a sudden flash, he and his tricycle were badly burned. He died that night. His father felt that he was too young to be buried in a lonely grave away from home and, thinking that he could still play with the tricycle, he buried Shinichi with the tricycle in the backyard.

Children’s Peace Memorial

The most upsetting element of the Peace Memorial Park for many however, is the one memorial with a face – the Children’s Peace Memorial.

This memorial was built for Sadako Sasaki who was 2 years old when Hiroshima was bombed. Although she was in Hiroshima at the time of the blast, it seemed that Sadako had escaped with only surface wounds and so she lived a normal childhood, excelling at athletics and gathering a big gang of friends in elementary school. Ten years later however, Sadako became ill and was diagnosed with leukemia as a result of her exposure to such massive quantities of radiation.

She was hospitalized and while there she saw all the origami paper cranes that were sent to patients as omens of good luck. She heard somewhere that folding 1,000 paper cranes could make a wish come true and became convinced that this was the answer to her plight.

Although she managed to reach, and far surpass, her target, Sadako soon after. At her funerals her family handed out a lot of the cranes she had folded to guests – some of them were large and some were so small that she had used a needle point to fold them. Every one, however, had been folded with care and imbued with her fervent wish to live.

News of Sadako’s tragic death and her cranes spread around Japan and touched something in the public consciousness. Schools petitioned for a monument honouring her and all the children killed by the bomb. Eventually, with the help of people across the world, they raised enough money to build their own. Meanwhile, in a more personal tribute, kids started folding their own paper cranes and sending them to Hiroshima, a practice that still exists today. Millions of these cranes, pasted into pictures and hung in long strings, now make up the Children’s Peace Memorial in Peace Memorial Park.

Dream 2 of this week was scribbled down, this time in my regular messy writing, not all-caps but joined and very scruffy. I also drew a little drawing to try and remember an element of me dream. A beach. It had a statue on it which looked kind of like that American Rod thing in Washington DC, or like the black towers in Digimon. Was weird. Here we go with the badly structured, written and remembered notes.

“I have special powers (levitation) when A and his sisters take me to a beach (used to be Palestinian, Serbian?) – There is a statue and I close my eyes and can levitate – either no-one sees me or cares. (Dream, Weds 18/11/09)

Then L has powers takes ring pull of can removes from inside from the side and re-attaches. - Friend talks about living with father as does unknown, quite large South Asian guy?

I, in different kind of story pass through building (dome shape) land in chair seating area – only little girl notices – I make my way somewhere. Don’t remember.

At work and watching a movie from 2 producers - a woman (looks like Lindsay Lohan but is nice / friendly) is there – I keep taking oranges from reduction and putting back in place while B does opposite. This happens twice before he explains – comes to scene where woman is naked and with a man – she explains the movie is called terminator, but rather than it being a joke she looks upset – starts crying while she is comforted by me – I feel sorry - don’t know why.”

Right. It isn’t exactly a pornographic movie but it seems to be that this woman really didn’t like seeing the movie being played seemingly in a random place on a rubbish old television with video in a supermarket. On top of this was me not being able to understand either why this whole idea existed or why it was at my work and including people I’d never thought I’d dream about.

The way it started was very different, with the superpowers. It felt so cool. What I didn’t seem to write down but remember is that we took public transport after the first part on the beach to a bridge. That’s where the discussion about father came up and where I, from the free way, levitated towards a building with quite a bit of teeth gritting difficulty to land on the side of this building which was more harsh a curve than the millennium dome but very similar. I then, with more eye closing and teeth gritting passed through it to land on a chair standing upright, only to be noticed by a single person. A little girl.

At the beach part it seemed like I knew a lot about this almost mythical history, of some different culture that had been forgotten and where this scene with the statue, also right near a bridge – albeit a lot quieter with seemingly no nearby traffic, released dormant powers in chosen people. This was another cool dream I thought would be a good adaptation to a story. But it’s not complete, the picture is bare and it seems to make little sense to me why it’s so random, jumping from about 3 to 4 different scenes and changing faces of friends and people I know while inventing about 3 new people at the same time.

Variety now has word that Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks TV have optioned the book and are looking to set it up as a mini series, likely for cable. Spielberg will executive produce.

Thanksgiving must be in the air, because this month of November has been a  cornucopia of riches for those of you out there, unlike myself, that enjoy watching leaked sex tapes of famous or soon to be famous people.

 Shauna Sands of all people has written an open letter to Carrie, encouraging her to take the money, and maximize her financial earnings by controlling its distribution, which will happen if she gets paid or not.

 Shauna, of course, is speaking from experience, as her former boyfriend released her sex tape, on the eve of ex-husband Lorenzo Lamas and current family had premiered their own reality T.V. program on a major cable network. Shauna has offered to sit down with her over ‘tea’ so she could consult her one on one, sex tape producer to sex tape producer. 

Let’s see what Carrie decides to do…take the devils money, or cash in and blaze new trials as a christian porno actress. Today, singing star, actress, and all around sex goddess, Carmen Electra stepped up to the plate and has leaked her own private porno sex tape, but hers is not a solo affair. 

 What it does mean is that the search for it will on the internet will make her the queen of internet searches for a few days, which should help promote the sale of her upcoming movie or book release. Electra, 37, can be seen wearing nothing but black high heels, stockings, panties, a red bra and a diamond-studded choker in a new short posted on website NucleonForce.com.

The most interesting one out of any leaked sex tape that I have been forced to review as a ‘journalist’ comes from newcomers Miss Japan 2008 Miroko Mima and Miss Trinidad & Tobago Anya Ayoung-Chee who both met and competed in the 2008 Miss Universe pageant with Carrie Prejean. 

Do not be too curious, because why mess up a good gig over some prurient entertainment, unless of course, your job is to report on such news for a blog or other legitimate news reporting services.

I predict the two of them will be famous, but that Miss Trinidad and Tobago is flat-out beautiful. She will have an extensive career in front of the cameras, so do not be mad at her.

 I give this one 15 stars out of 10, and the leaked tape speaks for itself.

 It is being reported that the action was stolen off of her Miss Trinidad’s former boyfriend’s laptop, when he left it at a computer repair shop. That sounds to me like a lie, because we all know that most people delete their porn from their desktop before leaving it at a repair shop,….at least I do.

 I am obviously joking here with all of this, but it is amazing to me that there are so many high-profile people out there that film themselves having illicit sex. Carrie Prejean claims that she just wanted to give her boyfriend a gift, and I have heard that before many times from young girls.

I know when I bring gifts to an intimate female companion, I better show up with some flowers and merchandise if I plan on coming back. A sex tape will not cut it for the women I know, …but it would be great for them to make one and give it to me.

 I just would not be in it. Unfortunetly this does send out the wrong message to all the little girls out there that want to become celebrities. It seems as though that a ‘leaked’ sex tape is going to be mandatory for  young lady to rise to fame and popularity in today’s culture.

The viral nature of just such an exhibition has worked wonders for many of todays starlets and that might be a double-edged sword. 

I expect a lot of self righteous declarations of piousness to be espoused in reaction to this sexual exploitation in our culture, and I discourage any of my relatives to go down this path,so I do not have to be exposed to it.

 But, the reality of it is, is that it is not illegal if the parties are of age and consenting adults, it’s just inadvisable.

 I recommend a bit of discretion, but I do understand the pressure that we in Hollywood put on the female stars to stay relevant, and to be noticed.

If you are related to me, I suggest you make something eles for your boyfriend…

 Proceed with caution….as I call to book my one way ticket to Trinidad and Tobago with a layover in Japan!!!

I was always taught by my parents to respect my elders, and I do not think that is too much to ask.Larry King is obviously an elder, and throughout his illustrious career as a broadcaster, he has earned the respect of his peers, and has developed millions of fans in the process.

Larry King wrote the book on interviewing celebrities, and as old as he is, he still attracts legions of young followers.

On Wednesday, our favorite gay bashing solo sex starring Christian advocate for morality,ex-Miss California Carrie Prejean, willingly accepted an invitation to be a guest on his show, so that he could interview her about her latest newsworthy scandal, and to promote her book on how she has been victimized in the media, simply because her Christianity demands of her to hate gay Americans, which to her,and her delusional misguided Christian financial supporters, is a noble cause.

A local minister, Miles Mcpherson of The Rock church in San Diego, http://therocksandiego.org/, has been a high profile and visible cheerleader for this disturbed young woman, and he needs to cut his losses immediatley. The reality of Prejean and their relationship is a cautionary tale of bad intentions against humanity coming back to bite you.

She has absolutely no credibility as a Christian, and she clearly just wants to get paid.McPherson has foolishly sided with a devil, because his personal hatred for gay people, overshadows his duty to his parishoners to do a simple background check,and vet this person that he has put in front of the world as a representative of good traditional  God-like Christian values and morality.

I say he has a good excuse,because back in the day, he was a cocaine addict, and that drug has been proven to destroy brain cells, and they do not regenerate. Hopefully he has left all that behind him, but this is confusing.

His thousands of followers and fans of his brand of christianity, that professes hatred of people that do not share his religous edicts, and has solidly backed this train wreck of a beauty queen, should demand a fair and public accounting of any of his church financial assests that have been squandered on this lying sex star.

TMZ.com is reporting today, that the ex-boyfriend of Carrie Prejean, who she allegedly gifted him with her masterbation text download,has come out to tell the world that he was asked by her to lie about her actual age that she was, when she made the XXX video.

Some failed Christians have attempted to halt the distribution of the sex scene by constructing a lie about Carrie’s age at the time, which they say was 17, to make it a crime to view it, because she was underage when she produced it.

Some even have alluded to me that if I did get an opportunity to see it, then I could be brought up on charges that are reprehensible.

Shame on them, beause that was another lie that Carrie got over on you.Their motivation is not to advance Christian morality via Carrie, but it is to save face, and to cover-up their hipocrasy.She was a legal adult when the tape was produced.

On the Larry King show, she got all upset when Larry asked her why she settled her case for no money against the Pageant organization.

She answered Larry by telling him it was an innapropriate question, and then she took her mike off, and began scolding Larry.

She must have known that she is not worthy of being on any show, unless we can talk about the sex tape.Notice she had no problem bashing gay people, but,….when it came to her sexual preference, she was having no part of it.

I applaud Larry for his in depth reporting, and his unwilligness to have her control what questions he asked her. He would immediatley loose credibility with his audience if he did not ask the newsworthy questions.

My question to Miles and all the rest of you fake false Christians…at what point do you repent for your sin of unleashing this nutjob on the world.

I know she is cute, but isn’t your credibility with the Christian crowd destroyed, because it certainly should be, if all things in life were fair and equal.

Being fair and equal with all people in our world, including all of my gay friends and yours, is the last Christian value you are interested in following.

Rex Lint and I just got back from a day shooting in Atlanta, GA. We shot with 5 cameras, 3 Canon 5D’s and two HVX200’s. Highlight of the trip was tossing a football around in the Georgia Dome!

I have been working on a project with my photo agency documenting the renovation efforts at Central Market.
Along with taking photos, I have been working on a slideshow which will have audio from around the market. So I have been walking around the market for the past few days, audio recorder in hand (thanks Rick for the loan).

Hoy, por primera y única vez en mi vida, he encontrado un juego en Kosice a precio más barato que en páginas webs anglosajonas: Left 4 Dead para X360 a 14 euros, frente a las 17,9 pounds más gastos de envio de, por ejemplo, Amazon. El problema ha sido al ir a pagarlo. El encargado se me ha acercado sonriente y me ha dicho “¿Por qué no te esperas un par de semanas? Entonces saldrá la segunda parte”. Le he respondido que me quedaba con la primera, ahorrándome comentar que mejor lo barato y bueno conocido que pagar el cuádruple por algo que puede ser peor. Pero entonces el tipo se me ha acercado con rostro serio, mostrándome sus demacrada dentadura y obligándome a oler su sudor, y me ha dicho “¿No tienes la consola pirateada? La puedes flashear por 30 euros”. En ese momento he sonreído, creyendo que estaba ante una cámara oculta, y he mirado a mi alrededor. Me encontraba en el amplio local de una conocida franquicia de electrónica de consumo, dentro de un centro comercial grande, pero la oferta era propia de un mercadillo. Al preguntarle si me la flasheaba él mismo allí dentro me ha respondido con desconfianza: “No, no, te lo haría un amigo”.

No engañaré a nadie. En mi vida el porcentaje de legalidad vs piratería será de 1-100, pero con la X360, ya sea porque el bolsillo me lo permite, la importación ofrece precios justos y soy desarrollador software, me he propuesto ser legal al 100%. Y para mi sorpresa la oferta de aquel tipejo me ha revuelto el estómago. Entre otras cosas él se dedica a vender juegos originales, ¿acaso si hubiera querido comprar una película me habría recomendado descargarla? Tragué saliva, le devolví el juego y me marché de la tiendas después de decirle que me lo había pensado mejor. Ya caerá en otro momento… y lugar.

Luego al llegar a casa me he topado con que este martes Stephen King publica una novela con la misma idea que comencé a desarrollar hace 6 años, y que dejé cerca de la página 100. El motivo del abandono fue que no se me ocurría un final lo suficientemente satisfactorio más allá del “todo es un sueño” o “el protagonista es víctima de su locura”. Desconozco el origen del domo en la obra de King; en el mio todo recaía en la obsesión pictórica del protagonista con la obra del Bosco. Concretamente en el grabado “la creación del mundo” que hay en el reverso de “El jardín de las delicias”. Además, el tema del domo fue muy ridiculizado en la película de los Simpsons, por si alguno lo recuerda.

Eso sí, al Stephen King de la última década lo piratearía sin remordimientos. Aunque claro, para eso debería merecer la pena, y no es el caso.

After a night recovering from ramen paradise, I was ready for more baseball.

The Fighters used to be located in Tokyo and shared the Tokyo Dome with the Giants.  They moved to Hokkaido in 2004 and are the only the team requires opponents to fly in for games.  Their star player is Yu Darvish, a starting pitcher, who starred for Japan in the most recent World Baseball Classic.  He pitched the night before, so we weren’t able to see him.

A former Fighters player of note is Tsuyoshi Shinjo, who used to play with the Mets.  After returning to Japan, he helped the Fighters win the Japan Series.  I remember him because Shinjo appeared to have pointy ears, like an elf or Spock.  My Dad would always point that out.  I also remember him because he was one of the first Japanese players to join the Mets during a time when star Japanese players were starting to come over to the US with more frequency- Hideo Nomo had been successful, Ichiro Suzuki was on the Mariners, and the Yankees had signed Hideki Irabu.  The Mets got Shinjo, who I didn’t think was all that special when he played in Japan, so I thought we got gypped.  I think that Shinjo turned out better than Irabu, though.

The Fighters official name is the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters.  Notice the hyphen between Nippon and Ham (Nippon-Ham is a meat packing conglomerate).  Originally, there was no hyphen.  Someone told me that the hyphen was added because people thought they were the Ham Fighters.  I confess that I was one of those people, though by the time were in Sapporo, I believed it more for comedic effect, since my friends and I tried to figure out what a Ham Fighter was.

The Sapporo Dome itself is large and cavernous.  I felt that it looked like an airplane hanger.

Like other teams, the Fighters have cheerleaders, though these cheerleaders dressed more like traditional cheerleaders.  We also found out what a Ham Fighter looks like:

The Fighters won the game pretty easily, beating the Eagles 5-2.  Interesting fact about this game: the winning pitcher was Masaru Takeda and the Hisashi Takeda got the save (no relation).
