Whuttup, Whuttup, Whuttup!!!  So my homies @ FreeIceCream are throwing a HUGE show this Thursday @ Bell House in BK so I thought I’d use the power of the World Wide Web to promo the show but mostly the cool music they are putting out…namely the Almost Fameless Mixtape Series which in a scant year has gotten up to Vol 4…Peep Game!!!!

In addition to making great music they are also in the biz of making hilarious videos…I really just like this one because Domer gets a chair (stool really) broken over his head…Hilarious!!!!

This has been a lazy morning for me. I just remembered (while lying in bed and singing “Take it to the limit” with the mistaken lyrics of “Take it to the river”) that I wanted to write a post about my brother’s new music video. He goes by the name of DOMER (no I won’t tell you his real name, that’s no fun) and he’s been doing a lot of super fun music with his pal Katz. Katz’s voice makes me think he’s on the smaller side but apparently he’s ginormous!

The newest video is for the song, “Run Amok” and features DJ Smutvillian and illspoken. They’re all running around, messing about in a wrestling ring. At the end, my brother gets whacked on the head with a collapsible chair and they replay it in slow motion about 4 times. The look on his face is great. Check it out!

As I said, Mike Hatke brought this blurb to my attention. As a Rays fan, I can only applaud this young man’s priorities. A true (Devil) Rays fan ’till the end, he essentially sticks up for them rather than his girlfriend! Hilarious. When I was in high school being a Rays fan was less about being cool and more about being rebellious. I should clarify; rebellious in the sense that it was unique, like a unibrow. One event that stands out in my mind comes when I was dating a girl named Katie. She wasn’t the biggest of Rays fans, but more than most because she didn’t like baseball one bit. We were an odd couple, to say the least, but she understood that I had needs she simply could not satisfy.

We dated for about a month before that faithful night. It was the weekend before homecoming and a friend of mine was holding a party. Katie and I agreed to meet up there because I wanted to see the end of the Rays and Yankees game before arriving. The game lasted longer than I had anticipated and when I arrived Katie was nowhere to be found, at least until I went upstairs where she was cornered by a guy.

His hands all over her, much to her dismay, as she attempted to wiggle away from him while telling him to leave her alone. I rushed over and pulled him off. He immediately looked down at my shirt which featured the Rays insignia (these were the days of green) and decided to comment “She has low standards if she’s willing to date a Rays fan.”

I could not believe this guy was brave as to insult something I cherished that much right in front of me. I figured he would not be so daring as to say it twice. I asked him what it was he said. He repeated. I flew off the handle and grabbed him by his popped collar, throwing him against a wall.

“If you ever and I do mean ever say something like that again I will put you through this wall. The Rays will be good before you know it.”
At this point he had a bewildered look on his face. “What about her?” he asked.

“Same for her, she knows her place.”

By now most of the party had gathered around to see a fight or something, but much to their disappointment nothing happened publicly. Katie dumped me, and my night ended in heartache.

The Rays lost.

Absolutely hilarious story. Props to R.J. Anderson, who ever you are. Don’t know if I would have done the same thing… I don’t even think I had that much faith in the Rays at the time in general…

Like I said, a new edition of The Rant should be up today, and perhaps some sci-fi list action? We shall see .

Brooklyn-based indie-hop innovator Domer is back with a brand new kind of musical project.   Only a few months after the April release of his critically acclaimed genre-bender “Work With Me” on Skipping Beats Records, Domer has decided to push the limits even further by inventing a whole new kind of interactive album.The vocals for the five songs on My Favorite EP were recorded with no beat underneath, just rapped to a metronome and have been posted online for producers all over the world to run with.  By keeping a carefully ambiguous tone in lyrical content and delivery, Domer allows producers to take the EP in any musical direction they choose.  Once Domer collects the various versions of the EP (which already range from party tracks to introspective electro to minimal electro-dub), they will all be posted online for free download and listening. 

But that’s not the best part.

The twist is that the actual choice of the My Favorite EP lineup and song order will be left in the hands of every journalist, blogger and fan who participates.  Everyone is invited to choose their favorite version of each song and create a custom-made version of My Favorite EP according to their own tastes.  And of course, everyone is encouraged to post their favorite EP for free download on their own site.  

“I wanted to blur the line between artist and listener,” Domer said.  “The direction of the album is in everyone’s hands but mine and will continue to be till the project is over.  It’s cool because it really gets people involved in the process and kind brings the open-source philosophy to music in a new way.”
