Le sigh. Much better. D. came home, and was all “Wow, it looks and smells great in here!

Le sigh. Much better. D. came home, and was all “Wow, it looks and smells great in here!” which was very nice. He feels better, which is good — he’s has a miserable cold and been home sick the last two days.

I remember being sick as a dog one year when I was a kid, for Mother’s Day. I had tonsilitis, and we were supposed to be going to a very fancy (to 9 year old me) restaurant. I didn’t want to miss it. I went, but I couldn’t eat anything, of course. I had something like a 101 degree fever, which I understand puts most parents in a screaming panic attack, but I had so many cases of tonsilitis as a kid, with so many really, really high fevers (like 103, 104) that my folks were all “Eh, 101. What the fuck ever” by that point.

I wonder sometimes how many brain cells that killed. C’est la vie.

This blase attitude towards fevers has translated to my adult life — people get all het up about “OMG, OMG, 100 degree fever! ER, stat!” to which my somewhat heartless reply is “Are you kidding me? Chill the fuck out and give ‘em some fever reducer.” Unless you can see actual heat waves, I’m just not worried.

Anyway, I have eaten, made green bean casserole, which is cooling on the counter, and the ham is in the oven. Cider-mustard glaze is reducing on stovetop, and I have a load of dishes going in the dishwasher. Now I’m all RSS-feed checky and thinking about giving myself a manicure and settling down with a book until the ham is cooked.

Happy Thanksgiving!

My day so far: Wake up, coffee, internet round-up and check. Go to to start iTouch for cleaning ramp

My day so far:

Wake up, coffee, internet round-up and check. Go to to start iTouch for cleaning rampage music, is dead. Say bad words, charge.Prepare to clean in monk-like silence.

Awful gingham curtains removed from dining room.

Go out, apologize to neighbor’s for ex-wife’s dog incessantly barking. Explain dog needs to be out while I clean. Neighbor is very nice, offers to bring EWD over to play with son’s GIANT Lab puppy. EWD goes over fence, promptly starts trying to hump giant Lab puppy’s face. I go inside.

Dining room dusted, lemon oiled, window seat hastily cleaned and decorated with items pilfered from screened in porch room, de-cat boxed, de- cat fooded, de- pethair and de-cat condoed

Dining room swiffered, swept (yes, I have to do it twice, fucking 5 pets, OMGWHY?) mopped.

Dining room chairs brought in, not polished yet.

OMG, I forgot I have to cook a turkey breast too! Check turkey breast — does not need to be defrosted. Cancel plans for evening, as this means I have to cook the ham tonight.

Put ham out.

Go get cigarettes. It’s cold. I’m wearing a short cotton skort.

Get nicotine. Pay in $10.77 worth of change.

Get home, smoke cigarette. Get up, spray overn cleaner in oven, as it was producing large amounts of smoke when I baked a pizza last night (from last time I broiled chicken breasts with shittons of butter.)

Dust and polish almost all furniture in foyer, living room and office, except stuff that will just have to be done again after the de-hairing of the furniture tonight.

Swiffer and sweep living room and office. Mop living room while hollering as cats traipse across wet floor — “Wait till I’m done cleaning it before you get it dirty!”

Take internet and cigarette break.

Okay, at 7 p.m., I called the cleaning blitz a quit, and decided to go on a shopping spree at Anthropologie. You know, the kind without money. I am giving myself $1000 virtual dollars — no sales tax, because I’m an English teacher, yo, and there’s no sales tax IN MY HEAD.

So I had a weekend of insomnia, and I went surfing into the sunrise. This is some of the stuff I fou

So I had a weekend of insomnia, and I went surfing into the sunrise. This is some of the stuff I found out.

The following things are to be found at Plasticland.

Vintage Woman & Bird Stretched Canvas Wall Art

It’s just pretty. I would put it in the foyer.

Vintage Victorian Hand Jewelry Holder

While I have pretty trays and boxes and such already stashing a lot of my jewelry, I only have one 3-D storage option, and that’s for necklaces.

This would be a fabulous 3-D way to store and display rings, as I have quite a few pretty ones, but I can really only stand to wear one on a daily basis.

Glass Drops Flower Vase on Wood Stand

I like wee bud vases — I think they take up less room and also, you can get some fresh flowers or bits of greenery into more places in your house (say, a tiny powder room or a bookshelf) and spend less money — and this, while not precisely wee, is small and clever and pretty. I would use this in the bathroom.

Fuchsia Faux Suede Bardot Platform Pumps

Yeah, these are just hot, and I want them.

These things are from A+R which is AWESOME OMG AND I WANT TO SPEND TONS OF MONEY THERE OMG SQUEEEE.

Er. Ahem. Excuse me. I couldn’t help it.

I have a whole wish list saved on this site (hello, anyone who reads this and wants to buy me stuff) but I have edited it to just include a few of my very favorite items for you to peruse. But there’s tons of really wonderful items — tell me some of your favorites, because I guarantee you will have something.

Tord Boontje & Artecnica’s Garland Light

This is just gorgeous, and I love it. I would get it for the foyer light fixture.

Sagaform’s Fresh Herb Pot

I love this design. I would definitely plant herbs in this and keep it on my kitchen windowsill.

I know, I know — D. went to bed at 12:30 and I SWEAR I was going up by 1 a.m.. but at about 11 p.m., I’d stumbled on mydeco.com, which is fierce CRACK, because it lets you design your own little 3-D rooms and make virtual moodboards. I made a sex noise when I found it that made D. turn to me and raise an eyebrow inquiringly. I just kind of flopped a hand towards the computer screen, at which he obligingly peered.

“Oh. Wow, you’re never gonna sleep, are you?” says him. Eyes wide, I just nod and nod and my fingers twitch as I try it out. Oh, you Brits! With your clever time sucks. I love you.

But I was conscientious, and only played with it for an hour or so. Then I looked at a few blogs that had to do with insomnia, and that led me to this article in the New York Times: “An Internet Solution for Insomnia.”

It talks basically about providing CBT — cognitive behavioral therapy — via the internet. I’ve encountered a lot of these ideas in my various trips to sleep specialists and sleep clinics, but I will be researching the idea more throughly now that I’m not insured and can’t have the assured quick fix that a sleep med might bring. I will be doing more research on this, and reporting on my findings.

Does anyone have any experiences with CBT for insomnia, or for any other issues? I’d like to hear about them.

Anyway, to wrap up this Insomnireport, 2 mgs. Lorazepam, to bed at 2 a.m., didn’t listen to anything at all, and last time I remember seeing on the clock was 2:34 a.m. Woke up at 10:41 a.m. this morning, feeling like I could use another couple hours of sleep, but I got up.

I need to get a new shower curtain. I moved into D’s place and the bathroom is PINK. Which, actually, I’m ok with (oh, but I miss my deep, deep 1920’s bathtub — the pink tub is a mere puddle — no baths for me!).

The shower curtain…needs to be replaced. Yes, I tried to wash it; I’m trying not to GirlStyle the poor man out of all semblance of his home. But — yep, washed it, needs to go.

Price is an object, and it’s gotta tie in this Pepto pink paint and fixtures things, and maybe tone it down a bit. I already have a lot of light green mats and towels.

Paiseley curtain above is my favorite, but it is awfully girly. D. likes bright colors; here’s my second choice.

Yes, yes, I know: this is the plaint of about half a zillion people since this spring. I still tool wistfully about the mag stand at the bookstore, hoping to find a print magazine that will be comparable, but there’s nothing that quite fits the cute little niche Domino occupied.

Apparently, one of the stylists for Domino, and other assorted publications, Lili Diallo, is continuing to style. (How much do I love that “styling” is a profession? But it makes sense — some people just have a knack and a definitive aethetic sensbility. Diallo has a website, and I can look through it and remember some of the layouts in Domino.

The food and clothes styling are kinda “eh” to me — but the homes! I can’t directly put up the photos that I am all “Oooh, shiny!” about, but seriously — go look at her website and see some of the pretty for yourself.

You know, I am fine with sustainable living, and people living simply. I get it — sometimes the urge to purge all my stuff and go live in a rustic cabin in the Colorado mountains by a stream with spawning salmon and deer and nature and quiet musing wrapped in a cashmere blanket and writing in a Moleskin journal becomes all too appealing. Ok, maybe a ratty quilt and Mead notebook, if I’m doing the simple living thing.

However, this couple featured in Odeedoh…wow. They live in 380 square feet. And have a baby.

I know — I KNOW — tons of people live in tinier places that are just unthinkable for a large number of Americans. And I know anyone who lives in say, New York or London or many large cities are going to have wee, wee places. But I was just thinking about how weird it is for me to live with someone at all — sometimes, I think it’s way too crowded — mentally in my house, and that’s with two adults, four cats, a dog all occupying a two story house with a basement.

I’m sitting here right now, and we’re utilizing one room — we have his and hers computers set up spanning the south wall, using a T-shaped built-in abutted on both side with bookcases. It’s nice to be able to share thoughts and not feel separated, but…well, right now I’m wearing headphone to kind of build a separate mental space for myself.

After living with myself so long, I am not used to people. I know D’s not looking over my shoulder…but he could be. I keep wanting to put a net or a curtain between us.

How do you deal with having your own space while living with a boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse?

So I moved into my boyfriend’s house about a month ago. I’d been planning on moving in about the mid of October but then boom! POW! I lost my job unexpectedly and I hustled my shit in here in a frantic half-week. So I went from living in a small one-bedroom 1920’s era apartment on the Plaza to a two-story three bedroom with a basement full of his ex’s stuff, a hyperactive Corgi, two cats (in addition to my two), a deck with nails sticking out, and you know, grass and TREES and shit.

So. Regardless of the other issues that moving in (having never lived with anyone in a romantic attachment, and not had a roommate of any other type in at least 8 years) have dredged up in the primordial ooze that is my psyche, I have had decor issues crowding the brain.

See, I LIKE decorating. This house is cool; I like it. But I am dead broke, so while I’m trying to do as well as I can with creative repurposing and shopping from my own inventory, so to speak, there are just so many things I’m itching to do.

Like paint, for instance. The living room is kind of a medium yellow — fine when there’s some light in here, but since there are only windows on the south side of the living room, and it’s a oblong living room, and the south side is devoted to a built-in desk/bookshelves office type area…not a lot of light. It’s kind of a mustard yellow in the afternoon and in the evening. Not terrible, but not what I want, either.

I’m not going to get to the living room for a while, so I’ve got that on a mental back burner, but the foyer…THAT I can do. I have an actual foyer! The floors are parquet, and I got down and scrubbed and lemon oiled those bitches by hand a couple of weeks ago. I organized the closet in the foyer, but I would like to add a bit more zip to the area eventually.

The window has cute little shutters

which I really like.

Been suffering growing pains for the whole week. First is heavy cold. Half deaf, sluggish and overdo

Been suffering growing pains for the whole week. First is heavy cold. Half deaf, sluggish and overdosed, I though the last earthquake was side effect or another thing made by HAARP

Then I was made aware that I’ve got ridiculous amount of RAW files to work on. Last week I did a pre wedding photoshoot for my friend Helga. The couple was agreed with the idea I proposed. I was inspired by 30-40s espionage, and Newseum Cafe at Veteran Street (where we previously did screenplay writing and discussion) it is, definitely. It’s an alternative room of cafe, art gallery, also legendary hideout place of Mata Hari where she studied Indonesian culture. I like the irony, where optimism was used as a counter-balanced of the great depression/post-war ambience of pessimism. Just like how they produced some musicals and comedies to entertain themselves. The zeitgeist: undercover, optimism, betterment, hope, mission, travel, togetherness, harmony, 30-40s spy, agent, etc.

In execution, I want the shots not perfectly lit, or ‘beautifully’ low-key. I want them to be just make sense. Not composed. I hate to say that I wanted me and my camera to be sincere (let’s say: redemption, because we’ve been such liars). And that’s the feel I got from Newseum Cafe. Like the era, they have this little cranny highlights and vignette in the corners. With the presence of dead areas, some of the image appears more alive. I also done the props and wardrobe, helped by Stella and Mira.

Just a leak from unedited stuffs. To avoid Frank Miller-ish look I will make it like less gloomy version of film noir (imagine the photos standing amid the flowers in the wedding day).

A&A präsentierte die größten Architekten seiner Zeit, darunter Neutra, Schindler, Saarinen, Ellwood, Lautner, Eames und Koenig. (PR-Text Taschen)
