DON PEPIN CUBAN CLASSIC

Pepin this, Pepin that, Pepin this, Pepin that. What happened to the days when people only use to talk about Cubans? Now it seems like all they talk about is Don Pepin. Don’t get me wrong, I get it, the mans great and some of his cigars are fantastic …. Okay, okay, most of his cigars are fantastic. But I also feel that sometimes people are force to like it just because of the name. Ive heard lots of people talk about this “black label”, but is it really good? Or is it good because it say’s Don Pepin in the name? Lets find out. Tonight, enjoy my review on the Don Pepin Cuban Classic.

The wrapper on the Cuban Classic was very oily, shiny and very smooth in texture. Its then paired with a detailed black and gold label that gives off a very patriotic feel. The cigar is a Petite Lancero, which is not my favorite size, but im interested to see how much flavor and how enjoyable a smaller ring gauge can be.

Im not sure if the size of the cigar had anything to do with it, but I didn’t pick up any noticeable scent from the wrapper or foot. The cut on the cap was smooth and the pre-draw gives off a Spicy Oak.

The beginning of the cigar is really Creamy. Creamy tasty, Creamy smooth and Creamy delicious. It last for awhile and then it adds a Peppery undertone as you get closer to the half way point. It then becomes really Earthy in flavor with more Pepper to go along with it. I found other Don Pepin cigars to not have a good balance of Pepper and sometimes over do it, but this cigar has the right amount. As i got closer to the end , the Creaminess dies down and the flavors become a little harsh on the palate. I think it has something to do with the burn, so take your time and smoke slow to get the best of the flavors.

The quality of the cigar is decent. The burn was a little uneven, but nothing too major. I’m not a fast smoker at all, but I found the cigar to burn rather quickly and that causes the cigar to heat up fast (thats probably why i got some harshness towards the end of the cigar) The aroma was very sweet and releases tons of smoke for a small cigar.

All in all, It’s a good cigar and yes i could recommend it to you. But there’s a better cigar i feel more comfortable recommending and thats the Don Pepin Serie JJ. So go check that one out first then smoke the Cuban Classic.

Final Note: Don Pepin got it going on. Its not a fantastic cigar, but it’s a little better then good. Which in my mind makes this a great value and a smoke everyone should give at least a try. It’s not my favorite cigar made by Don Pepin, but it’s still a good one.
