That&#8217;s right! The chase is apparently on baby!</p>
<p>Option 1: (most popularly speculated) Cookie Boy (Servia) is apparently under contract to AGR (remember that whole &#8220;driver consultant&#8221; thingy??). Many believe this is a precursor to a fulltime seat in 2010, so him jumping over to a &#8220;competitor&#8221; might not be prudent at this juncture.</p>
<p>Option 2: PT is out riding motorcycles in the desert somewhere (dayum! Someone get a smoke signal to him stat!!)</p>
<p>Option 3:  Speedy Dan is headed this way from England, helmet in hand, could we see the debut of Dastardly Dan!?! (damn, why am I NOT going this weekend??) </p>
<p>Option 4: Someone throws a bag of money at Seabass and flies him over.</p>
<p>Will definitely be an interesting couple of days for sure! </p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Op het oudste actieve circuit ter wereld, de Milwaukee Mile, maakte Scott Dixon afgelopen weekend duidelijk dat hij maar wat graag zijn IndyCar titel wil verlengen. Voor Dixon was het de tweede zege van het seizoen, voor Chip Ganassi Racing de derde. Met Franchitti en Dixon heeft Ganassi de kampioenen van 2007 en 2008 aan boord, en dat kan nog voor het nodige vuurwerk binnen het team zorgen.</p>
<p>Enkel Penske Racing kan voorlopig gelijke tred houden. Ryan Briscoe schreef de openingsrace op zijn palmares en Helio Castroneves zegevierde in de 500 mijl van Indianapolis. Het derde IndyCar topteam, Andretti Green Racing, laat het dit seizoen flink afweten. Van de vier piloten presteert alleen Danica Patrick op niveau. Op de Brickway en op de Milwaukee Mile heeft zij nogmaals aangetoond dat zij een ijzersterke oval rijder is.</p>
<p>Bij de overige teams staat 2009 vooral in het licht van overleven. Met de economische malaise is het deelnemersveld intussen gedaald naar een povere twintig wagens. Zelfs een machtig team als Newman/Haas/Lanigan moet extra op de centen letten.  En intussen blijven ook de resultaten ondermaats. Robert Doornbos betaalt veel leergeld in zijn eerste IndyCar seizoen en mag zich na zijn optreden in Indianapolis zelfs een volleerd lid van de orde der Wallbangers noemen.</p>

De NHL-rijder reed tijdens de vrije trainingen op Fast Friday en op Pole Day twee Dallara&#8217;s in de prak en ziet alvast de 22 beste startplaatsen aan zijn neus voorbijgaan. Volgend weekend krijgt Doornbos een laatste kans om zich te kwalificeren voor de 93ste editie van de legendarische race.</p>
<p>De Rotterdammer had nochtans een sterke indruk gelaten tijdens de rookie orientation sessions eerder deze week. In zijn kennismaking met de roemruchte Brickyard toonde Doornbos zich de snelste van de nieuwkomers en moest hij enkel de &#8216;refreshers&#8217; Paul Tracy en Scott Sharp voorlaten. Doornbos wordt in zijn eerste Indy 500 avontuur bijgestaan door tweevoudig winnaar Arie Luyendyk.</p>
<p>Pole Day werd volledig gedomineerd door het Penske team met Helio Castroneves op pole en Ryan Briscoe op de tweede startplek. Chip Ganassi piloten Dario Franchitti en Scott Dixon starten respectievelijk vanop plek drie en vijf, met tussen hen in Doornbos&#8217; ploegmaat Graham Rahal. In totaal strijden veertig ingeschreven deelnemers om drieëndertig beschikbare startplaatsen.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Een aantal Amerikaanse commentatoren zijn na de race in Kansas, de derde werdstrijd van het seizoen, vragen beginnen stellen over de spectakelarmoede bij de IndyCars. Saint Petersburg en Long Beach waren al saai, en voorbije zondag bleek ook de eerste oval race van het seizoen behoorlijk slaapverwekkend.</p>

<p>Tijdens het winterseizoen werden nochtans een aantal reglementswijzigingen doorgevoerd die het spectakel ten goede zouden moeten komen. IndyCar teams kunnen dit seizoen gebruik maken van zachtere &#8216;option tyres&#8217; naast de reguliere banden. Anderzijds vervalt voor de teams de mogelijkheid om te kiezen uit meerdere wielbasisen. Er werd een nieuwe privé testing policy uitgewerkt en ook het puntensysteem onderging een aantal wijzigingen. Maar voorlopig brengen de nieuwe reglementen dus weinig zoden aan de dijk. </p>
<p>Ook bij de lagelanders is het een seizoensbegin zonder veel pit. Robert Doornbos, onder dak bij topteam NHL Racing, kon voorlopig geen potten breken. Zijn entree in de IndyCar series verloopt moeilijker dan zijn Champ Car debuut twee jaar geleden. En Eric Bachelart heeft evenmin reden tot vieren. Zijn Conquest team is door de economische crisis teruggevallen op één wagen met aan het stuur Alex Tagliani. Voorlopig staat de Canadees slechts twintigste in het rijdersklassement.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Bobby D is terug. En hoe. Robert Doornbos heeft zowaar een contract in de wacht gesleept bij het roemrijke NHL Racing. Er werd al weken over gespeculeerd maar vrijdagavond werd het nieuws eindelijk bevestigd.</p>
<p>De 27-jarige Rotterdammer mag zich vanaf maandag, tijdens de open test op de Homestead-Miami Speedway, beginnen voorbereiden op het nieuwe IndyCar seizoen. Voor Doornbos betekent IndyCar een tweede Amerikaans avontuur. In 2007 maakte Doornbos al op indrukwekkende wijze kennis met het Amerikaanse open wheel racing, maar toen de Champ Car World Series begin 2008 werden opgedoekt viel hij onverwacht zonder werk.</p>
<p>Bij Newman/Haas/Lanigan komt Doornbos meteen in een zeer competitief team terecht. Op de ovals zal hij wegens gebrek aan ervaring dit jaar nog geen potten kunnen breken, maar het valt te verwachten dat Bobby D zich tijdens de road courses onmiddellijk vooraan zal tonen.</p>
<p>Doornbos krijgt bij NHL Racing mogelijk twee teammaten. Naast Graham Rahal, die al officieel werd bevestigd, is er sprake van Milka Duno als derde rijder. De Venezolaanse zou naar verluidt ettelijke miljoenen dollars meebrengen van het olie-concern Citgo. Voor Justin Wilson is er bij NHL Racing geen plaats meer.</p>
<p>IndyCar betekent voor Doornbos ook een eerste deelname aan de legendarische Indy 500. Meteen een kans voor de Rotterdammer om in de voetsporen te treden van Arie Luyendyk, die de race in Indianapolis in 1990 en 1997 won.</p>

De league mag met een voldoende naar het tweede jaar. Niet met onderscheiding dus, de nieuwe formule is nog niet aangeslagen bij het grote publiek.</p>

<p>Een Italiaan in Chinese kleuren &#8211; Davide Rigon &#8211; rijfde de eerste kampioenschapstitel binnen. De Benelux-delegatie mocht geregeld in de prijzen delen. Yelmer Buurman, in een wagen van Azerti Race Automotive met PSV-livery, verbaasde vriend en vijand met een tweede plaats in het eindklassement. Robert Doornbos, een van de topfavorieten, stelde ietwat teleur maar kon met AC Milan toch twee races winnen. En een derde Nederlander, Paul Meijer, verraste met een zege voor Al-Ain, ook al in een wagen gerund door Azerti Race Automotive.</p>
<p>Superleague Formula mag trots zijn op de Panoz DP09 die een van de mooiste eenzitters van het ogenblik is. Spijtig dat die wagen nog voor te weinig spektakel heeft gezorgd op de circuits. Het zaterdagse kwalificatie-formaat werd goed onthaald, maar de &#8216;complete reversed grid&#8217; voor de tweede race op zondag is voor de meeste rijders een brug te ver.</p>
<p>De branding met topclubs uit het voetbal wordt door veel observatoren nog altijd als een goedkope marketing-truk gezien. In het algemeen is die marketing-aanpak zeker nog voor verbetering vatbaar. Tijdens de eerste races bleven de tribunes nagenoeg leeg, pas na het verdelen van gratis tickets voor de laatste events stroomden de toeschouwers massaal toe. Superleague Formula kan op dit moment nauwelijks op eigen benen staan, partnering met een andere racecompetitie lijkt een noodzaak.</p>
<p>Afwachten welke communicatie de Superleague-organisatie binnenkort de wereld zal insturen. Oorspronkelijk mikte men voor 2009 op negen raceweekends, maar volgens de laatste geruchten zou dit aantal al niet meer gehaald worden.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>A1GP&#8217;s new &#8220;Powered by Ferrari era&#8221; got underway properly after the slightly shambolic affair at Zandvoort in October, with two solid races and two somewhat surprising but thoroughly deserving victors.</p>
<h2>Sprint race</h2>
<p>Adam Carroll got off to a perfect start from pole position, holding off Robert Doornbos as the two of them scampered off into an untroubled lead for the sprint race.</p>
<p>&#8220;I just tried to keep my head down and not make any mistakes,&#8221; Carroll said. &#8220;But it&#8217;s going to be a pretty long race this afternoon.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;It feels good to be on the podium,&#8221; Doornbos said. &#8220;Obviously it&#8217;s the best first impression you can make. We started strong &#8211; we missed pole by just 0.006s &#8211; and in the race it was the same. I&#8217;m very happy with second.&#8221;</p>
<p>Behind them, Switzerland&#8217;s Neel Jani found himself slightly hindered by the Team Netherlands car and ended up with Team GB&#8217;s Danny Watts managing to get past him on the outside line of turn 1. Efforts to fight back proved unsuccessful, and Watts managed to draw out a comfortable lead for much of the race before suddenly dropping some time in the closing laps allowing Jani to come back hard and make it a tough fight for the final podium position. However, Watts &#8211; despite being new to the series &#8211; was able to hold the position till the chequered flag, meaning that two of the three drivers on the podium were competing in their first ever A1GP weekend.</p>
<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a great result, and a great reward for all the hard work that all the boys have put in throughout the week,&#8221; Watts said. &#8220;Third is good points for us, but we&#8217;ll have to see how we go this afternoon.&#8221;</p>
<p>Adrian Zaugg took fifth after holding off a very fiery Felipe Albuquerque in a blisteringly fast Team Portugal car in sixth.</p>
<p>Brazil encountered early mechanical problems that saw them slow and briefly stop on track, threatening a safety car, before they were able to get back to the pits and effect a repair. China were disappointed in their home race after an early self-inflicted spin saw them fighting to recover from the very back of the running order: Ho-Pin Tung could only battle back to 17th by the end.</p>

<h2>Feature race</h2>
<p>Danny Watts made a strong start from pole position, while behind it was Portugal that got off to a strong start and overtook sprint race winner Adam Carroll going into the first turn, and Neel Jani fought to keep back Monaco&#8217;s Clivio Piccione for fourth place.</p>
<p>There was a brief safety car period as a result of Robert Doornbos stalling on the grid and needing to be taken to the pits to get refired. He rejoined but was a lap down and out of contention, but proved his strong form by putting in the fastest lap of the race just to make his point.</p>
<p>While Watts drove without a single mistake throughout, he was let down by his pit stops: the first one saw Portugal&#8217;s Filipe Albuquerque overtake him with a later, quicker stop to claim the lead; and during the later pit stops he lost second place to Ireland.</p>
<p>Malaysia&#8217;s Fairuz Fauzy pulled off a text book overtaking move on Australia&#8217;s John Martin after a length scrap between the two: finally, Fauzy timed his push to pass to perfection down the pit straight and shot past Martin into the first turn.</p>
<p>A couple of laps later, Nicholas Prost tried something similar, but was too far back and only managed to get the French car past the Aussie just before the turn, causing him to brake too late and overshoot the corner slightly. As a result he slid onto the dirty side of the track and spun on debris left from a polystyrene sign that had been blown apart during an early contre-temps between Mexico and Lebanon. Prost stalled and ended up retiring, a serious blow for the French team that had come into the Chinese event in the joint lead of the championship.</p>
<p>Prost&#8217;s retirement brought out a late safety car that closed up the field for a final dash to the end, but despite some tough battles the points-paying positions were unaffected through to the chequered flag, with Portugal emphatically the best car and team in the feature race followed by the consistently excellent Adam Carroll in second, then Watts and Jani.</p>
<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a great reward for all the hard work the boys have put in over the week,&#8221; said Watts. &#8220;We never thought we&#8217;d go away with two podiums after arriving with the car still in bits. The podiums have to go to the mechanics because they have worked so hard, there&#8217;s been a huge effort from everyone on the team and I&#8217;m so glad that we&#8217;re going away from the weekend with a big haul of points.</p>
<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been a privilege and an honour to drive for Great Britain. I&#8217;ve had a great weekend, I had to keep it clean and tidy and I hope that I have contributed.&#8221;</p>
<p>Marco Andretti scored his first A1GP points for the USA team by finishing eighth.</p>

<h2>Championship standings</h2>
<p>France drop back as a result of Prost&#8217;s spin in the feature race and Fauzy&#8217;s strong move on Martin to take a valuable 5pts after striking out in the sprint race, to put Malaysia at the top of the standings.</p>
<p>France are now joint second with Team Ireland, bouncing back from a no-scoring weekend at Zandvoort. While New Zealand did poorly this weekend compared with the opening event, they still hold joint 4th place along with the Netherlands, while Portugal, Switzerland and Great Britain are closing up after good weekends in Chengdu.</p>
<p>GB&#8217;s 8th is particularly impressive as they didn&#8217;t appear at all in Zandvoort. At the end of the season, teams will &#8216;drop&#8217; their worst weekend result which in Team GB&#8217;s case means the weekend they missed due to the ate delivery of the new chassis, and may close up the championship overall.</p>

Paul Meijer kwam als 11e onder de zwart wit geblokte vlag door. Geen slecht weekend dus voor onze Nederlandse coureurs. De volgende afspraak is op het circuit van Estoril in Portugal op 18/19 oktober.</p>

<p>Robert Doornbos heeft donderdag het stoeltje voor de A1GP-auto laten aanmeten.</p>
<p>&#8220;Hij zat meteen prima, hoewel we om nog beter te zitten nog moeten wachten op de andere stoel, gemaakt voor wat langere coureurs&#8221;, zei Doornbos.</p>
<p>Jeroen Bleekemolen was ook aanwezig in het A1GP Technical Centre in Silverstone, waar alle teams zich aan het voorbereiden zijn, om kennis te nemen van de laatste ontwikkelingen rond de auto. Volgende week dinsdag maakt Doornbos zijn debuut in de A1GP, tijdens de testsessie op het circuit van Snetterton. Ook Bleekemolen zal in actie tijdens deze laatste test voor het begin van het seizoen.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>De kop is eraf. Afgelopen weekend vond in Donington de première plaats van de nieuwe Superleague Formula. Davide Rigon, regerend Euroseries 3000 kampioen en rijdend met de Beijing Gouan wagen, behaalde de overwinning in de eerste race. In de tweede race ging de zege naar Borja Garcia voor FC Sevilla.</p>

<p>Voor de vertegenwoordigers uit de lage landen was het een debuutweekend met de nodige moeilijkheden. Robert Doornbos, uitkomend voor AC Milaan, werd door motorpoblemen geplaagd en verdween al tijdens de eerste manche van het toneel. De andere Nederlander, Yelmer Buurman, slaagde er in de PSV-wagen van het Belgische Azerti Race Automotive wel in een behoorlijk resultaat neer te zetten: vierde in race 1 en achtste in race 2. Team Astromega kende geen geluk met de Anderlecht-wagen, en dat ondanks de knappe verrichtingen van de jonge Britse rijder Craig Dolby: tweemaal kwam de paarswitte bolide tot stilstand.</p>
<p>De Superleague Formula kan terugblikken op een geslaagd eerste race-weekend. De nieuwe Panoz DP09 vertoonde &#8211; niet verwonderlijk &#8211; een aantal kinderziektes, maar dit zal zich ongetwijfeld binnen afzienbare tijd stabiliseren. Binnen drie weken staat de Superleague voor een eerste ernstige test op de Nürburgring. Een vergelijking van rondetijden zal dan leren waar de Superleague zich bevindt in de &#8216;pik-orde&#8217; van de formule-klassen. Superleague Formula is uiteraard geen Formule 1, maar als de rondetijden niet minstens op het niveau liggen van de GP2, wordt het moeilijk om de aandacht te trekken van de doorsnee autosportliefhebber.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><strong>Après un début de saison catastrophique, le jeune brésilien de l&#8217;écurie Renault devrait perdre son baquet au sein de l&#8217;écurie française. Le hollandais Doornbos semble le candidat idéal pour le remplacer.</strong></p>
<p>Il parait que Piquet Jr adore la pluie. Pourtant, il a une nouvelle fois déçu lors du GP de Monaco cet après-midi, disputé dans des conditions météos difficiles. Le brésilien a terminé sa course dans une pile de pneus et au vu de son début de saison raté, il mérite de prendre la porte. L&#8217;écurie Renault n&#8217;a aujourd&#8217;hui qu&#8217;une seule voiture capable de rentrer régulièrement dans les points. Il serait étonnant qu&#8217;une écurie championne du monde il y a encore deux ans persiste à faire confiance à un pilote bien trop tendre pour la F1. Certes, il ne fait pas d&#8217;ombre à Alonso mais une grande écurie se doit d&#8217;avoir deux pilotes performants.</p>
<p>Pour le remplacer, les médias français semblent privilégier la piste Grosjean, le français qui brille en GP2.  Mais l&#8217;expérience malheureuse de Piquet devrait inciter les responsables de l&#8217;écurie à miser sur un pilote plus chevronné. A ce titre, l&#8217;embauche récente du hollandais Robert Doornbos en tant que pilote-essayeur chez Renault devrait mettre la puce à l&#8217;oreille. Doornbos va d&#8217;ailleurs effectuer des essais à Silverstone, ce qui indiquerait un possible remplacement de Piquet d&#8217;ici le GP de France.  La titularisation du hollandais en tant que pilote titulaire n&#8217;aurait rien d&#8217;hasardeux.  Doornbos a déjà couru en F1 en 2005 avec l&#8217;écurie Minardi et fin 2006 avec Red Bull pour les 3 derniers GP de la saison. Il avait à l&#8217;époque impressionné en dominant David Coulthard en essais.</p>
<p>L&#8217;an passé, Doornbos fut le rival le plus coriace de Sébastien Bourdais pour le titre en Champcar. Le hollandais remporta 3 victoires et fit preuve d&#8217;une réelle capacité d&#8217;adaptation dans un championnat où les monoplaces sont beaucoup plus lourdes qu&#8217;en Formule 1. Après la liquidation du championnat Champcar en début d&#8217;année, Doornbos s&#8217;est retrouvé inexplicablement sans volant. Il est donc heureux que Renault ait pensé à lui. C&#8217;est un pilote de talent, certes pas aussi doué qu&#8217;un Alonso mais à 26 ans, il a encore un bel avenir devant lui. Et je suis persuadé qu&#8217;il sera mieux s&#8217;adapter à l&#8217;écurie française que le surestimé fils de Nelson Piquet.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Geheel volgens de Amerikaanse autosportcultuur staat de maand mei volledig in dienst van de 500 mijl van Indianapolis, ook bekend als de &#8216;Indy 500&#8242; of nog simpeler &#8216;The 500&#8242;. De race op de legendarische Brickyard wordt door de Amerikanen zelf een tikkeltje onbescheiden bestempeld als de &#8217;Greatest Spectacle in Racing&#8217;. Maar in feite is de Indy 500 al ruim een decennium niet meer de race die het ooit geweest is.</p>
<p>Toen Tony George in 1996 de Indy Racing League opstartte als tegenhanger van de toenmalige CART series, legde hij meteen een stevige hypotheek op de koninginnerace op zijn eigen Indianapolis Motor Speedway. CART en Champ Car rijders hebben sinds 1996 nog maar zelden aan de 500 mijlsrace deelgenomen. De publieke belangstelling taande en vorig jaar had George de grootste moeite om een volledig startveld bij mekaar te krijgen.</p>
<p>Met de hereniging van de Amerikaanse eenzitterij hoopt ook de Brickyard de vroegere glorie te hervinden. En te meten aan het aantal ingeschreven wagens, schijnt men op de goede weg te zijn. In totaal strijden 37 deelnemers om 33 beschikbare startplaatsen. De eerste elf posities werden reeds vastgeklikt tijdens pole day vorige zaterdag, met Ganassi rijder Scott Dixon als pole winnaar. Vandaag en morgen worden, respectievelijk tijdens de laatste kwalificatiesessie en bump day, de resterende 22 posities toebedeeld.</p>
<p>De grote afwezige tijdens de 92ste uitgave van de Indianapolis 500 is Paul Tracy. De Canadees is een van de grote slachtoffers van het stopzetten van de Champ Car World Series. Het lijkt er steeds meer op dat Tracy&#8217;s laatste optreden in Long Beach afgelopen maand een afscheidsrace is geweest. Ook Robert Doornbos zal vanaf de zijlijn moeten toekijken. Doornbos begint zijn ambities naar 2009 te verleggen, nu 2008 een gedwongen sabbatjaar lijkt te worden.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>De &#8216;hereniging&#8217; van de Amerikaanse eenzitterseries eist zijn slachtoffers onder de vroegere Champ Car rijders. Vedetten als Paul Tracy, Alex Tagliani, Mario Dominguez, Nelson Philippe en Robert Doornbos zitten nog steeds zonder stuur voor 2008. Rijders als Katherine Legge en Jan Heylen zagen de bui tijdig hangen en zochten onderdak in respectievelijk de DTM en de GrandAm.</p>
<p>Robert Doornbos had na een succesvol debuutseizoen in Champ Car gehoopt snel opgepikt te worden door een van de IndyCar teams. Twee mogelijke werkgevers, Minardi Team USA en Walker Racing, gooiden echter de handdoek in de ring. En bij KV Racing was Will Power hem te vlug af. Resultaat: geen Bobby D. op de grid in Homestead-Miami dit weekend.  </p>
<p>Toch is niet alle hoop vervlogen voor de Rotterdammer. RTL meldt dat Doornbos dit weekend waarschijnlijk naar de States zal afreizen op uitnodiging van een niet nader genoemd IndyCar team. Een debuut in de Indy 500 zou tot de mogelijkheden kunnen behoren. Doornbos&#8217; management zal dan wel uit een ander vaatje moeten gaan tappen want de bluf-strategie van de laatste maanden heeft Doornbos tot nog toe alleen maar een ferme kater opgeleverd.</p>

<p><b>14 de febrero &#8211; </b>Hoy sería el 64º aniversario de Ronnie Peterson y revolviendo me deparé con esta imagen arriba. La foto claramente muestra el sueco usando un casco GPA, en vez de lo de costumbre Bell. Esta marca francesa llegó a ser muy popular por causa de su sistema de fijación y muchos pilotos en el inicio de los años 80 optaron por este casco. Ya que era más confortable que el de costumbre, ofreciendo un sistema más fácil para ajustar el ángulo de abertura de la visera. Y eran raros. El autor de este blog y Stefan Bellof fueron los únicos pilotos en Alemania a ganar suministro gratuito de La GPA para 1982. Y es justamente por esto que esta foto llamó la mi atención. Nunca había visto Peterson antes con un GPA, ni siquiera sabía que el casco existía en 1978, cuando esta foto fue hecha. Alguien sabe la história por detrás de esta imagem?</p>

<p>Ricardo Rodríguez era el más nuevo de los dos hermanos Rodriguez, un piloto valiente que apareció en el palco de la F1 de forma espectacular. Invitado por Enzo Ferrari a correr por la Scuderia en el GP de Italia, el más joven debutante de la historia de la F1 enseguida puso el coche en la primera fila del grid, llevando solamente 1/10 del líder del campeonato Wolfgang von Trips. En la carrera disputo con Phil Hill y Richie Ginther la lideranza hasta que la bomba de combustible falló. Después de un año como piloto oficial, pero solo corriendo en la F1 ocasionalmente, Ricardo ya era considerado un futuro campeón. Pero en la primera prueba de F1 en su tierra natal no consiguió convencer a Ferrari en conseguirle un coche. Por eso llegó a un acuerdo con Rob Walker para pilotar un Lotus 24 Climax V8 del equipo británico. Angustiado, con ganas de vencer en casa y buscando mejorar el tiempo de John Surtees, el Lotus de repente grió bruscamente a la izquierda en la temida curva inclinada Peraltada, una curva à derecha entrando la recta de los boxes. El impacto as 140 km/h fue violento, Ricardo murió en el acto.</p>

<p>Un verdadero campeón se define por su talento, disciplina, pero también por la competencia de tomar decisiones correctas en su carrera. El talento de Ronnie Peterson, un maestro del derrapaje controlado y dueño de un estilo de pilotaje famoso en cuanto a arrojo y espectáculo, que no hay como cuestionar. Debuto en la Formula 1 en 1970 con el equipo oficial del emergente fabricante March y terminó su segunda temporada como vice-campeón, sin vencer ninguna carrera, pero también sólo derrotado por Jackie Stewart. Tardaría hasta 1973, cuando consiguió una invitación de Colin Chapman para juntarse al Team Lotus, donde consiguió conquistar su 1ª victoria en el GP de Francia, la 1ª de cuatro victorias en aquella temporada. Pero desde entonces El Lótus entró en una fase decadente y Ronnie acabo volviendo para el equipo March, venciendo el GP de Italia de 1976 en Monza. Siguió un año de poco éxito con el proyecto de Tyrrel, el P34 de seis ruedas, antes de retornar para el Lotus en 1978. Ronnie venció dos GPs en aquel año, tuvo que aceptar patrocinar el piloto número 2 por una temporada. Ayudó a Mario Andretti a conquistar el Mundial con la certeza de poder luchar por el titulo en 1979. Infelizmente no llegaría al punto de coger los frutos, pues falleció debido a las lesiones y una atención medica precaria después de un accidente en la salida del GP de Italia. Andretti conquistó el título en aquella tarde triste en Monza y Ronnie acabó siendo vice-campeón póstumo de 1978.</p>

<p>Piloto de primera en las categorías de acceso, Michael es un talento más promovido por Red Bull. Uno de los pocos pilotos usando gafas, el alemán tuvo su debut en la Formual 1 como tercer piloto de Red Bull Racing en los entrenamietos del viernes en los GPs de China y Japón y en Brasil de 2006. En la época Robert Doornbos substituyó a Christian Klien como titular en los últimos tres GPs y así surgió la posibilidad de Ammermüller de impresionar a los técnicos con su competencia, tanto en vueltas lanzadas, como en su habilidad para analizar el ajuste del coche. Piloto de pruebas de Red Bull Racing en 2007, pasó por una fase difícil después de herir su puño en un accidente y continua en la GP2 esperando debutar en la parrilla de salida de un GP de Fórmula 1.</p>

<p>Scotti era un empresario italiano que corría con un Ferrari en carreras de coches deportivos al inicio de la década de los 50. Sus mayores éxitos fueron un tercer lugar en la Mille MIglia de 1951 y vencer las 12 horas de Casablanca haciendo pareja con Nino Farina. En 1956 compró un Connaught para correr en F1. Su mejor resultado con este coche fue el 7º lugar en la International Trophy, pero después del GP de Bélgica devolvió el coche al fabricante y abandonó las pistas.</p>

<p>Ricardo Rodríguez era o mais novo dos dois irmãos Rodriguez, um piloto arrojado e valente que apareceu no palco da F1 de forma espetacular. Convidado por Enzo Ferrari a correr pela Scuderia no GP da Itália, o mais jovem estreante da história da F1 logo colocou o carro na primeira fila do grid, levando somente 1/10 do líder do campeonato Wolfgang von Trips. Na corrida ele brigou com Phil Hill e Richie Ginther pela liderança até a bomba de combustível falhar. Após um ano como piloto oficial, mas somente correndo na F1 ocasionalmente, Ricardo já era considerado um futuro campeão. Mas para a primeira prova de F1 na sua terra natal não conseguiu convencer a Ferrari de fornecer um carro. Assim fez acordo com o Rob Walker para guiar o Lotus 24 Climax V8 da equipe do britânico. Angustiado com a vontade vencer em casa e tentando melhorar o tempo de John Surtees, a Lotus de repente virou bruscamente à esquerda na temida curva inclinada Peraltada, uma curva à direita entrando o retão dos boxes. O impacto aos 140 km/h foi violento,  Ricardo morreu na hora.</p>

<p>Um verdadeiro campeão se define pelo seu talento, sua disciplina, mas também pela competência de tomar as decisões certas enquanto aos passos de sua carreira. O talento de Ronnie Peterson, um mestre da derrapagem controlada e dono de um estilo de pilotagem famoso enquanto ao arrojo e espetáculo, não tem como questionar. Ele estreou na Formula 1 em 1970 com a equipe oficial do emergente fabricante March e terminou a sua 2ª temporada como vice-campeão, sem vencer uma só corrida, mas também só derrotado pelo Jackie Stewart. Demoraria até 1973, quando seguiu convite de Colin Chapman para se juntar ao Team Lotus, que conseguiu conquistar a sua 1ª vitória no GP da França, a 1ª de quatro vitórias naquela temporada. Mas dali pra frente a Lótus entrou em uma fase decadente e Ronnie acabou voltando para a equipe March, vencendo o GP da Itália de 1976 em Monza. Seguiu um ano de pouco sucesso com o projeto da Tyrrell, o P34 de seis rodas, antes de retornar para a Lotus em 1978. Ronnie venceu dois GPs naquele ano, as teve que aceitar bancar o piloto número 2 por uma temporada. Ajudou Mario Andretti a conquistar o Mundial com a certeza de poder brigar pelo titulo em 1979. Infelizmente não chegaria ao ponto de colher os frutos, pois faleceu devido aos ferimentos e um atendimento médico precário após um acidente na largada para o GP da Itália. Andretti conquistou titulo naquela tarde triste em Monza e Ronnie acabou sendo vice-campeão póstumo de 1978.</p>

<p>Piloto de ponta nas categorias de acesso, Michael é mais um talento promovido pela Red Bull. Um dos poucos pilotos a usar óculos, o alemão teve a sua estréia na Formula 1 como 3º piloto da Red Bull Racing nos treinos de 6ª-feira nos GPs da China do Japão e no Brasil de 2006. Na época Robert Doornbos substituiu Christian Klien como titular nos últimos três GPs e assim surgiu a chance de Ammermüller a impressionar os técnicos com a sua competência, tanto em voltas lançados, como na sua habilidade de analisar o acerto do carro. Piloto de testes da Red Bull Racing para 2007, passou por uma fase difícil após machucar o punho em um acidente e continua na GP2 aguardando de também estrear no grid de largada de um GP de Formula 1.</p>

<p>Scotti era um empresário italiano que corria de Ferrari e corrida de caros esportivos no inicio da década de 50. Seu maiores sucessos foram um 3º lugar na Mille Miglia de 1951 e vencer as 12 horas de Casablanca em dupla com Nino Farina. Em 1956 comprou um Connaught para correr de F1. Seu melhor resultado com este carro foi o 7º lugar na International Trophy, mas depois do GP da Bélgica devolveu o carro ao fabricante e abandonou as pistas.</p>

<p><b>14th of February &#8211; </b>Today would be Ronnie Peterson&#8217;s 64th birthday and going through some pics I&#8217;ve come across this one that really puzzles me. It clearly shows the Swede wearing one of those French GPA helmets with the unique locking system that became <i>en vogue</i> in the early 80s. Including with myself as Stefan Bellof and I were the only drivers in Germany that got a free supply deal for 1982. But that&#8217;s precisely the point: Besides never having seen Peterson using a GPA before, I can only remember the French producer coming up in F1 with this helmet in the early 80s. But the shot seems to be from 1978, I guess. Does anyone know the story behind this one?</p>

<p>Ricardo Rodríguez, the younger of the two racing Rodriguez brothers, was a wild and fearless Mexican who entered Grand Prix racing with a bang. Invited by Enzo Ferrari to drive for Ferrari in the Italian Grand Prix that year, he sensationally qualified on the front row, just a tenth slower than World Championship leader Wolfgang Von Trips. He challenged Phil Hill and Richie Ginther for the lead until a fuel pump failure put him out. He thus became the youngest ever driver to debut in an F1 race. After promising spells at Ferrari, Ricardo was already being considered as a future World Champion, but had to find a car when Ferrari opted not to enter the non-Championship Mexican Grand Prix. He therefore signed to drive Rob Walker&#8217;s Lotus 24 Climax V8 (941). He desperately wanted to win the first Mexican F1 GP, and trying to improve John Surtees time when his Lotus veered sharply to the left in the middle of the fearsome 180-degree banked Peraltada corner and crashed heavily at about 140 km/h. Ricardo was dead on the scene.</p>

<p>A truly great champion is defined by his talent, his discipline and his judgment on making the right career moves when necessary. All Ronnie Peterson had was his uncontested talent behind the wheel, a master of opposite lock and dare devil driving antics. He graduated to Formula 1 in 1970 with the fledgling March team and in his second season finished runner-up to Jackie Stewart in the World Championship without winning a race. It was only in 1973, after switching to Colin Chapman&#8217;s Team Lotus that he scored his first win at the French GP and another three would follow that year. But Lotus was on decline and Ronnie returned to March, winning the 1976 Italian GP at Monza. An unsuccessful year with Tyrrell’s P34 six-wheeler followed, before going back to Lotus in 1978. Ronnie won two GPs that year, but had to play the number two role for a season and was looking forward to be free to race in equal terms in 1979. Tragically he died of injuries sustained in a accident at the start of that year&#8217;s Italian GP and became posthumous the runner-up to champion and team-mate Mario Andretti.</p>

<p>A front-runner in lower formulae, Michael is another successful product of the Red Bull Junior Programme. The bespectacled German got his break in Formula 1 as Red Bull Racing’s Friday-driver in China, Japan and Brazil, when Robert Doornbos replaced Christian Klien as race driver for the final three Grands Prix of 2006. Impressed by his speed and technical feedback, Red Bull Racing confirmed his appointment to the role of full-time tester early in 2007. Ammermüller continues to race in GP2 while awaiting his chance to line up on the grid of an F1 race.</p>

In 1956 he bought an F1 Connaught on hire purchase and took 7th in the International Trophy, but after the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa he returned the car to the factory and gave up racing.</p>

Seu acidente fatal com o seu helicóptero quase se repetiu em uma paralela incrível, quando seu ex-patrão David Richards conseguiu evitar uma tragédia semelhante ao manche do helicóptero dele voltando de Spa para comparecer aos preparativos do enterro de Colin.</p>

<p>Filho do bicampeão mundial de Formula 1 Graham Hill, Damon se tornou o único piloto a repetir a façanha do pai e vencer o título em 1996. Atualmente é presidente do “British Racing Drivers&#8217; Club”, associação à qual pertence o circuito de Silverstone.</p>

<p>O pai de Gian Carlo era piloto e construtor nos anos quarenta e após a sua morte o filho assumiu o negócio na parte de competição. A equipe foi uma das forças no Europeu de Formula 2 entre 1972 e 1979. Em 1976 chegou a alinhar uma Ferrari 312T no grid do campeonato Aurora na Inglaterra. Em 1979 Gian Carlo fundou a Minardi Racing graças ao apoio financeiro de Piero Mancini.</p>

<p>Marc participou em 87 GPs, estreando em 9 de setembro de 1979 e ao longo da sua carreira conquistou 17 pontos no Mundial de pilotos. O piloto suíço sofreu vários acidentes sérios, o mais grave quase lhe custou a vida quando perdeu o controle de seu Ford RS200 durante um rali na Alemanha. Desde que abandonou as pistas Marc tornou-se um dos melhores comentaristas de TV da Formula 1.</p>

<p>Ao lado de Colin Chapman considerado o mais genial e visionário desenhista dos anos 70. Um dos trabalhos mais elogiados era a transmissão nas quatro rodas que desenvolveu para a Matra em 1969, o sistema Ferguson. Foi o suficiente para impressionar Ken Tyrrell, que o contratou no final para que construísse a Tyrrell 001, carro que transformou a equipe privativa de Ken em construtor. O conceito mais espantoso na época sem dúvida era a Tyrrell P34 de seis rodas.</p>

<p>Henton consagrou-se em 1974 ao vencer os dois Campeonatos Britânicos de F3 que existiam em paralelo. No ano seguinte estreou na F1 pela Lótus, mas pegou a equipe em decadência e não conseguiu se firma na categoria. Em 1980 venceu o campeonato de F2 na Toleman e quando a equipe ingressou a F1, Henton era escolha óbvia. No total participou de 38 GPs, mas nunca conseguiu marcar um ponto.</p>

<p>Enrico Bertaggia bem que tentou, mas nunca conseguiu alinhar em um grid de F1. Em 1989 falhou seis vezes na tentativa de qualificar a sua Coloni. Em 1992 fez mais duas tentativas com outra equipe italiana, a escandalosa Andrea Moda. Mas a equipe foi excluída do primeiro GP, no segundo a própria equipe retirou seus carros e Bertaggia disse “addio” ao sonho de competir na F1.</p>

<p>Sempre piloto de grande promessa chegou na F1 como campeão da ChampCars em 2003 ao assinar pela Toyota. Não somente deixou de impressionar na pista como não soube se integrar na equipe e foi mandado embora em meados de 2004. Ele retornou as pistas na ChampCar, mas quando estava voltando a vencer, sofreu um grave acidente ao colidir durante testes com um veado. Desde então se recuperou dos ferimentos e das operações, mas uma volta às pistas parece incerta.</p>

<p>O húngaro Ferenc Szisz escreveu história ao vencer o primeiro Grande Prêmio da história. O “Grand Prix de l&#8217;ACF” (GP da França) em 1906. Szisz recebeu a cidadania francesa pelo seu empenho a favor da França na primeira Guerra mundial.</p>

<p>O piloto e dono de uma revendedora de carros em Bristol no oeste da Inglaterra tinha um estilo de pilotagem agressivo, e mesmo a sua postura atrás do volante lembrava o argentino Froilán Gonzalez. Portanto, ganhou dos conterrâneos o apelido &#8220;o Gonzalez de oeste&#8221;. Ele estreou na F1 em 1954, participou em 16 GPs e marcou dois pontos no Mundial.</p>
<p>Nasceu há 86 anos, faleceu 4/11/1968 aos 47 anos.</p>

<p>O vencedor das 500 milhas de Indianápolis e ex-campeão da F3000 e ChampCars foi pilotode grande promessa entre 2001 e 2006, mas vivia revoltado pela política que ronda a categoria máxima do automobilismo. Montoya surpreendeu o mundo ao pedir demissão da McLaren no meio da temporada e uma semana depois anunciou que competiria na NASCAR. Hoje é piloto n Nextel Cup pela equipe de Chip Ganassi, seu ex-chefe na ChampCars.</p>

Ginther ganhou fama de ser um piloto muito atento aos detalhes e como as suas informações era confiáveis, logo tornou-se piloto de testes da Honda e acabou estrando na F1. Depois de se aposentar das pistas viveu alegremente uma vida de cigano viajando com o seu motorhome. Em 1989 faleceu enquanto estava de passagem pela cidade de Bordeaux na França em conseqüência de um ataque cardíaco.</p>
<p>Nasceu há 77 anos, faleceu 20 / 9 /1989 aos 59 anos.</p>

<p>Piloto amador imensamente rico, que financiou suas participações em 11 GPs do próprio bolso. Mas mostrou competência, seu maior sucesso sendo a vitória nas 24 horas de Le Mans em dupla com Peter Walker em 1951. Whitehead morreu em um acidente bizarro em uma competição interestadual na França, a “Tour de France” automobilística. Com seu irmão Graham no volante a Jaguar descontrolou-se perto de Lasalle e despencou de uma ponte. Só o Graham sobreviveu.</p>

<p>Henry Segrave ganhou fama ao estabelecer três recordes mundiais de velocidade em terra e na água. Ele entrou para história ao ser o primeiro ser humano a atingir mais de 320 Km/h e também foi o primeiro detentor simultâneo de recordes em terra e na água.</p>

<p>Mais um dos amadores ricos que ocasionalmente freqüentavam o grid da F1 nos anos 50. No GP da Inglaterra de 1951 ele participou com a sua própria Maserati 4CL. O mais notável momento da carreira do aristocrata inglês foi quando saiu voando com seu Alvis Silver Eagle de uma das curvas inclinadas e supervelozes do histórico circuito de Brooklands. E sobreviveu.</p>

<p>Raby passou pela F3, na época ainda de 500cc, e categorias de carros esportivos para chegar na F1. Mas em julho de 1967 sofreu um grave acidente em Zandvoort que o deixou hospitalizado, resistindo por meses aos ferimentos, mas acabou por falecer em novembro.</p>

<p>Robarts vinha com boas recomendações da F3, mas não vingou na Brabham, na época com recém adquirida por Bernie Ecclestone. Começou a temporada de 1974 ao lado de Carlos Reutemann, mas foi substituído após somente três corridas por Rikky von Opel, que não era um piloto melhor, mas imensamente mais rico que o britânico. Robarts então fez mais algumas tentativas na F2 mais não foi longe.</p>

<p>O piloto suíço venceu o campeonato italiano de F3 de 1985 e tomou o próximo passo para a F3000, como planejado. Como não conseguia resultados como o equipamento ao alcance resolveu investir as verbas à disposição para ocupar uma vaga na Osella para correr de F1 e assim ficou condenado ao fundão, sem jamais ter chance de resultados dignos.</p>
